Cambell in United return or Fergie mind games?

Cambell in United return or Fergie mind games?

Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday claimed he could consider recalling Fraizer Campbell back to United in January, is this due to United's needs or a simple case of Fergie mind games?

Campbell has proved many Spurs fans wrong with his recent form and appetite to play for our club and with three goals in two games, plus a great performance for England's U-21s midweek have suddenly pushed the issue of Campbell's future to the fore.

In midweek, Campbell claimed that he hoped to return to United as they are the club he has played for since he was ten and the team he is contracted to, But he also hinted that he had to be sensible and consider his options, leaving a real indication he wanted to play a genuine part in United's first team or be sold to allow him to play and progress.

However yesterdays comments by SAF, brought a new twist to the situation when he said: 'We could pull him back in January, We have to the option and it is a possibility.

'The boy has been fantastic at Spurs. He is a good player but we needed to get him first-team experience, so we agreed to it so the deal with Berbatov went through.'

Clearly this could happen but is this United looking at bringing back an improved player to aid their season or a case of Fergie mind games as they prepare for a bidding war with Spurs or the highest bidder??

Redknapp has stated he would like the player to sign a permanent deal with Spurs, so I tend to think this is just the start of transfer negotiations and a way for Fergie to keep the bidding high...

I am still puzzled by the deal tbh, why did we take him on loan when they were desperate for Berbatov?? I thought it was a season long deal so how can he recall him? And why? He will not get in ahead of the strikers thier and everyone knows it imo.

Although he has done well, I don't believe he is going to come cheap due to us ringing 30m out of Utd for Berba. With this said, if he is valued at 10m, I reckon Harry could get far more for 10m than Campbell, (i'd rather wait untill the summer and get Defoe back for that sort of outlay). In my opinion, if he was as good as people reckon, he'd already bee keeping Bent and Pavy out of the side through merit and not the necessity to rotate fatigued players. Fergie also has to consider the fact that he may lose Tevez so let the**** do as he wants, theres nothing anyone can and in the FA's case will do to stop him getting his own way which he is accustomed to.

I am an admirer of Campell, he has applied himself well since he unwittingly became embroiled in the Berbatov saga, but fergie is not going to sell him to us cheap and when we get another striker in January, (as I am sure we will), he will then be even more of a bit part player. I still think he'll end up at Hull. I totally agree with Sads, he's not worth 10mill, we could do better for that money.

On the spurs official site 02/09/08 "The Club can announce that it has reached agreement with Manchester United for the permanent transfer of Dimitar Berbatov for a fee of £30.75m. As part of the settlement the Club has agreed not to pursue its official complaint to the Premier League. The deal sees Fraizer Campbell coming the other way on a season long loan. Campbell, 20, spent last season on loan at Hull City where his goals played a pivotal role in the Tiger's promotion to the Premier League". If Levy did not to have a non return clause inserted in the loan contract, more fool him!

Cant imagine that Levy wouldn't of had a circumstantial clause in place, as such that Campbell can only be recalled if we have so many first team strikers for example. If not then it was a sloppy dealing from our chairman, which is not often said.

I am ever hopeful that Harry won't wheel and deal too much in Jan and just buy top quality players if they're available. If there is no top drawer striker available then I'd be happy to stay with Bent, Pav, Campbell with support from Gio, Lennon, Modric etc. Obviously, if Campbell gets recalled then that forces our hands a little. I have a feeling Harry with go in for Yakubu though.

It's not his fault, but the presence of Campbell at Spurs just *****es me off. It always reminds me of the whole crappy Berbatov saga, and then we have to put up all the time with this sort of reminder that he's not ours. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer made a similar remark the other day. The boy's not THAT bloody good anyway, I say send him back to Man U tomorrow and let's move on. I'll come and help with his packing. Sure I'm being emotional, I always am when Spurs are involved.

I think any mentions of Defoe rejoining us in January are very hopeful as Reknapp has a limited budget and has said himself he will be looking for a few bargains. Portsmouth would want nearer £20mil than £10mil in my opinion and this would probably prove too higher a chunk of Harry's transfer funds, I do believe he will return to the Lane however, the earliest I feel this will be is the summer. Even if Campbell stays and we continue to play one man upfront it would the sensible option to sign another striker just incase. Yakubu is a definate option as he has worked under Harry before but then again that is no doubt the reason that the rumours have started in the first place. 'Feed the Yak and he will score', so what about Bent? He in truth has probably had fewer chances than almost any other striker in the premiership and yet is one of the top goalscorers. In Bent we have a player who will hit 20-30 goals a season if he plays consistently, despite not being our best player by any stretch of the imagination, he is our best goalscorer. 4-5-1 looks Harry's favoured option with Modric in the picture so we need another striker incase Bent's goal flow slows and the chance that Pavlyuchenko gets injured (which would be most likely, as he has had back to back seasons). IMO Zaki would be a cheaper option than Yakubu, but would they be happy playing less reguarly due to higher standard competition? Probably not, so I think Harry would just have to sign a squad player who is capable of banging a few in when we need it.

Well if he does get called back goes to show how weak and feeble Levy was over the deal. I thought it was a season loan, so to me that means the whole season, not half a season. Fergie might well be doing it to pee off Levy. The whole situation is a joke....

Real Deal - im sure it would have been Holy Comolli that would have thrashed that deal out - it stinks of him - I initally thought it was an act of desperation - and still do - we knew we had no other options and as we were already dealing with Utd - they were the last option we had, so they agreed a loan for Campbel - I dont think it was 'Part' of the Berbatov deal as some have stated. And anyway - like he is gonna get in ahead of Berba Rooney and Ronaldo and Tevez is crying out for game time too and they have stated Welbeck and Manucho are brighter propects than him

I'm amazed at the number of so-called fans who are prepared to believe the serial liar and unsettler of players. SAF is a man without a singles principle or honest bone in his body. What sort of low-life will try to play mind games and unsettle Campbell into the bargain. His contemptible actions show no interest in Campbell's career and are typical of SAF's guttercrawling traits. What planet are people on that give SAF's words any credibility.

When we say Harry shouldnt wheel and deal in January but only sign top quality players, what do we mean by top quality players, those that cost big money. We more than any club should realise that price/cost and quality do not necessarily go together. We have signed Kaboul @£7M, KPB @ £5M, prior to that going back over the years we have had many big money failures. Other clubs pick up lsser named players at bargain prices like santa Cruz, Samba, Muntari, Benjani, Andrews etc etc. I say let Harry wheel and Deal, Im sure hell find a gem.

Knowing how badly SAF wanted Berbatov, and having the complaint hanging over his head, we should have screwed him to only a full season loan deal but an option to buy at the end of it. He would hardly have let the Berbatov deal die, or if he did, we could have kept him and walked away.

There is a need to determine exactly what the position is. if it is that Campbell is definately going back in the summer, come what may, then we need to get a striker in in January, so as to prevent us having to play him. Why should we do SAF development work for him?

For those interested I e-mailed Spurs asking if United could recall campbell this is their reply. Thank you for your email. The loan deal with Manchester United for Fraizer is for the duration of the 2008/2009 season, although as with all such deals, there are a number of clauses within the contract which can allow the players' registered club to recall the player in pre-determined circumstances. There is no specified option for us to purchase Fraizer at the end of his loan spell. Kind regards Customer Care We have no option to buy!

In that case I stand by what I said, we need a striker in January and dont pick him after that. Let Man U blood him in the PL not us. I read this morning that the lad has every intention of going back to Man U and playing for a future at the club. Good luck to him, I fear he may need it, if Tevez cant get a start I fear that Campbell may struggle.

How many good strikers in European football have moved in the Jan transfer window anyway? You're all making it sound like it was Fergie's plan for you to develop Campbell for us! Levy ASKED for him as part of the deal as Fergie was prepared to let him go to Hull anyway! Don't make it sound like you're involuntarily doing as any favors because we didnt initially offer you Campbell as part of any deal. If you're mad, take it out on Greedy Levy!
