Another cosy chat with Vital Burnley

Another cosy chat with Vital Burnley

After a great first half, what went wrong for you in the 2nd half?

You just hit us with a sucker punch within two minutes of second half (Dawson goal) and it seemed to shake our confidence before we could settle. I thought at 2-1 up we still came back at you before you killed it off with another two quick goals. Defensive blunders on our part didn`t help I think after that we did well to contain you and prevent a total humiliation. If only we could have got a second goal our task tomorrow night might not have seemed so daunting. Still think 4-1 flattered you really based on our first half performance when I thought we were awesome

What can you do to claw the game back, if anything?

Spurs complacency could be our best chance

It really is a mountain to climb for the Clarets though. The first goal will be the most important and that will have to be the Clarets scoring it if we are to stand any chance. We best Arsenal 2-0 at Turf Moor and I think we have to reach that score line again to put Spurs under pressure. If we could do that with 15-20 minutes to go, anything could happen and Spurs could panic.

This will be your 6th game since the 3rd of Jan, and your form has suffered since beating Arsenal, has this competition taken the teams eye off the bigger prize of promotion?

I don`t think so. I think our major problem has been our small squad, where tiredness, injuries and suspensions have taken their toll.

We have lost four league games on the trot. In the first three we were terrible so no excuses. The fourth against Preston, I think we outplayed them and lost due to two dodgy penalties against the run of play. We have to hope the team that turns out on Wednesday night plays like the one that did against you at the Lane only this time for the full 90 minutes. We will have played nine games though by the end of January and every team has a bad run and we are in ours. We have to hope our bad run quickly comes to an end starting on Wednesday night!

Assuming you go out of the Carling cup, will this be a positive or negative to the rest of your season?

It is difficult to know what effect missing out on a chance to play at Wembley at the last hurdle might have on the lads. Just hoping some of our star players won't then try to leave in the Jan window too. We just have to get over it if we don`t win and focus on the play-offs.

We are also still in the FA Cup and play WBA at the Hawthorns this Saturday. This was taking second fiddle in the eyes of Clarets fans but the result of that game could equally now be important in terms of team confidence. Out of two Cup competitions in a week and sliding down the Championship table would be an horror scenario.

Prediction for Wednesday?

I have taken this from my match preview. Sums up my feelings I think!!

'I have to say 3-0 but I will be happy if we just win if we can`t get the required number of goals. Not many Championship sides (if any) will be able to say they beat four Premier League sides in a game of football all in the same season. The scalps of Fulham, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs would look good in the trophy room but the Carling Cup would look even better .Come on you Clarets!

Another good article here, I do enjoy these cosy chats lol. Must say I was impressed with Burnleys first half at the lane and admit that I was a little worried then not so much about going out of CC than being beaten by Burnley (no offence) and what this could have done to our fragile confidence for rest of league season. As for 2nd leg, well I hope harry gives a couple of our youngsters a run out without being complacent or disrespectful of Burnley. I'd like to see Gio, Ghaly and Bostock playing with maybe Alnwick on for 2nd half/last half hour if all is well. We have to have a look at him in case we dont get another keeper in jan and gomes ends up badly hurt and out for a long period. Otherwise I think it will be another tough match with Burnley thinking they can pressure us and make us panic, this should leave some space behind for our pacier players esp if we do have some youngsters in. Should be a good match. COYS 6-2 agg.

I think we should show Burnley a bit more respect than to replace our whole midfield. I would like to see Bostock get a game but dont forget they completely outplayed us for 45 mins. If they can hold Chelsea and Arsenal they can do it to us. I really think we need to make sure of a result. This Burnley fan is spot on. If they can get it to 2-0 our confidence could evaporate instantly COYS

I would be very surprised if harry doesnt pick as strong a side as possible tomorrow, the idea of playing the kids is lovely, but I really cant see it happening, what happens ir we start with kids and quickly lose two goals? Suddenly we are in trouble and this does no one any favours.. I think the sensible thing would be to start strong and put on one or two if the game is safe in the 2nd hals. It wouldnt surprise me if Gunter played for Corluka as VC is carrying an injury, I would perhaps like to see John Bostock get a star for Modric , but I wouldnt be upset if we waited until the tie was safe and he and another came on then

Arry will go with safety first, if we nick a goal and have a four nil cushion and there's 20/15 mins to go, he might chuck one one or two on to save first team legs..I hope we put up a better display in this first half then we did in the last.

I think he will play some reserves. Let's face it they will probably be better than the first team as at least they might put some effort in.

harry has far more to lose by plaing kids than he could ever gain, this is not a game for taking gambles.. United however is a different matter, but even then I think Harry will look to play quite a strong squad, in a game spurs fans would happily not be involved in.

We have to give Burnley the respect they deserve and put our strongest side. Hopefully once the we are a couple of goals to the good we can bring on a couple more. Would start with Bostock and Taarabt

I say good luck to Burnley I hope promotion becomes a reality for them. They are a good side, good manager thats for sure. Eagles is a talent (and ex-Spurs season ticket holder, "nice one son!" - Holding on to lead or keeping us out you would fancy them but as is often the case with Championship sides v. PL sides scoring goals is the challenge. I can see a win for Burnley but the margin of victory is beyond them. I have changed my travel plans in anticipation of our annual outing to Wembley March1st - see you there COYS!
