Harry wants Taarabt to stay at Spurs?

Tottenham`s Adel Taarabt has spoken about his desperation to leave Spurs to play regular Football, but claims that Harry wants him to stay at White Hart Lane.

Adel confirmed that everything was agreed between Spurs and Malaga over an initial season long loan deal, but Harry pulled the plug on the move, saying he wanted the player to remain at Spurs.

It would appear that Spurs would reluctantly sell Taarabt and are demanding 6m euros for any permanent move, with Lazio and sporting Lisbon being two other clubs interested in signing Taarabt.

Speaking to Mountakhab.net, Taarabt said: "With Malaga everybody was in agreement with the leaders of the two clubs, the agents ... and suddenly I was told that the transfer will not happen because Mr. Redknapp does not want me let him go.

"I know that Lazio of Rome and Sporting Lisbon are interested and they are in contact with the club. Of course I would be delighted playing with Sporting Portugal and Italy with Lazio ... but I must say that my thing is to go play in Spain.

'The Coach told me in the end that if I want to leave, I have looking for a club that buy directly. I replied that of course there are clubs who want to buy but you ask 5 or 6 million euro, while you have bought 3 million to play without me ...'

Sadly I cannot see Taarabt at White Hart Lane next season, as there seems little point forcing him remaining at the club and not getting playing time, but in truth unless we identify him as a player we can play in or near the starting eleven, I feel his departure in inevitable.

What is the point of keeping him if he is not going to play?? Harry either has to assure him that he will get game time next season or flog him. Not sure how long he has left on his contract, could we not loan him out again?
Chris Hart
Time to make ya mind up Harry. There were plenty of chances to play him towards the end of the season once we were safe but alas you played it safe
jayspur
We are no longer playing competitive league football with a reserve side, Taarabt is a fair way away from 1st team selection, so what is the point of keeping him, paying him, to at best trail around as a 6th or 7th choice bench-warmer. If we are apparently so skint that we cant buy before we sell, then lets get what we can and move on. Incidently this process should also be applied to others with the same realistic chance of 1st team selection.
Frank
spot on jayspur, he should of tried him on the left wing or right when Lennon was injured, it wouldn't have hurt at all. He's never going to improve his distribution if he doesn't get regular football but he won't even get it when players are out injured. That's the one thing that annoys me about Redknapp, lack of substitutions and obvious replacements for players when out injured.
gazzalegend
Just reads to me like Harry doesn't want him going out on loan, which with only just over 18 months left on his contract makes sense to me. Harry pulled the deal coz he wants the reddies. Players got a bad attitude so he can **** off for all im concerned. Too many of these young players think they can run before they walk. Lets flog him for 3-4m and be done with it, maybe he will come good maybe he won't, personally with his attitude I doubt he'll get anywhere.
ManilaYid
gazzalegend he was already loaned to QPR when Lennon was injured, and then he got injured himself after about 4 games. Anyway Ramos screwed his career up, had he been registered for Europe we would of definetly seen more of him in some of the UEFA cup games last season.
ManilaYid
This may be absurdly stupid BUT have any of you perhaps considered that 'Arry may just be about to give the lad a few minutes playing time?. I know it's more likely that 'Arry wants/needs the money that could be gained by selling him BUT maybe, just maybe, the man who actually manages the team noticed what we ALL noticed last season?. Perhaps it was indeed glaringly obvious to him that we lacked any REAL creativity and penetration, especially when we lost Lennon. Therefore it is not inconceivable that 'Arry wants to keep Taarabt for just that reason?. We ALL know he can be effective when coming off the bench (West Ham anybody), so perhaps further observation of the player is needed?. Seems the likes of ManillaYid know Taarabt personally?. If not, how can you possibly comment on his attitude?. You can ONLY go by what you read in the press. As far as I can tell from the outside looking in, the lad has just voiced his dis-satisfaction at a lack of playing time, which as pro footballer he surely has the right to do, doesn't he?. Remember one thing, whether he plays or not, he gets paid each month. So it's clear to me that his ONLY problem is that he isn't getting a chance to prove himself in a match environment. I know a fair few of you would happily pick up your pay cheque without actually doing any work BUT as lovers of football can we not understand the boy just wanting to play?.
coopsieyid
Holy s h i t, sorry for the rant fellas. Went off on one a bit there.
coopsieyid
coppsieyid if he wants game time then he can walk into Harry's office and ask for it coz its got F'all to do with anyone else. The reason I take issue with his attitude though is all we have heard from him through the press is about his lack of playing time, now I could maybe understand that if we were playing ***** but the fact he was moaning during our good run at the end of the season is poor poor judgement IMO Perhaps if he approached the press with the attitude of "Harry is an excellent manager, look at his recent record, I can't wait to be a apart of the team but I know I have to wait whilst they are doing so well" then I would have some respect for him, but I don't see him being very respectful to the club or the manager so as far as I'm concerned he can do one. The reality is that the guy wasn't good enough for Jol, Ramos or Harry so thats why he didn't get any games. Coopsieyid you and I have difference ideas of respect, thats why we will not agree on this subject.
ManilaYid
Good points "coopsieyid", he has the possibility of being a legend in the future, Is say, put him on the left. Clearly "Arry" knows something we dont, too, lets bare in mind "Arry's" own comments about Taarabt and that he has "ubelievable skills!"

yeah everyone thought that was just putting him on the shop window. This kid is good , quick feet and skills are amazing his vision is good, buh his decision making is poor but that will improve with age i guess?
No1Yido
A loan deal would be best as he needs competitive games to learn his trade and when to release the ball. The lad is the most naturally skillfull player I have seen in a long long time. Would be a shame if we could not harness that talent.
cockeril
Totaly agree coopsieyid, any attack on his character is totaly unfounded as have you seen him throw his toys out of the pram because i haven't. He has started playing full internationals while he was benched. While not playing he exicted the reserves for alot of last season gaining praise from CLive and others around him. While not doing that he has been spending his time helping with Spurs charities going round local schools to teach and be a positive role model for children. Skills wise it must be frustrating being told by the manager that your a genius and the rest of the squad saying publicy that your the most skillful person at the club yet still not playing. All of the last matches he played in he benefited his side, contributing with goals and assists while keeping the fans on their feet screaming for more. He was directly responcable for getting us to wembley when he came on against burnley and got us moving forward. Perhaps we would of won a few more tough away days had he been played. Yet a team in trouble will always justifiably have to rely on experience to see it through. Jol wanted to play him when we were comfortable and it didnt do us any harm. As for his distribution, one andy gray the man sometimes so bias against us it seems criminal, said that the boys passing and vision could only be matched by Berbatov and this was when he was 18. Also when of the main cries on here is for a midifielder with strength and bite. In Adel we have someone who has shrugged off the likes of Lampard and Ballack at the same time while keepin the ball clued to his foot. He has shrugged aside Essien one of the supposed strongest players in the league as well as countless others. We know harry has been looking for these types of players yet we have one in our own squad who has more natural talent than all those targets we have been linked to yet lacks experience. It was leaked about a week before this deal calapsed that Harry had a word with him and told him he wanted him in the firsts. So give him his time on the pitch and let him link up with Modric and Lennon, while doing all the skillfull passing and footwork for the ball winning Wilson.
zzz
ZZZ I've already replied with why I take issue with his attitude, I'd be as happy as any fan to be proved wrong, and if Harry really stopped the loan because he wants to give Abel game time then I won't complain, personally I can't see it myself, I reckon Harry likes him but can't accomodate him so wants to cash in instead.
ManilaYid
This is what a wrote on the forum in regard to how he has been talking in the press. "Made my thoughts about this on the front page. Alot of people really know ***** all and are quick to judge. The boy hasn't been playing and we are retarding his career. At a time when city are buying dozens of players who wont be able to play and there are vocal attacks of lazy unprofessionals who are happy to sit on the bench and collect their wage and who are destroying football because of it. This boy is putting football first, which is a rarity, by asking to play football whether its here, abroad or in the championship and you have the testicular fortitude to try to slate his character because of it." Dont take offence to the language it wasn't directed at anyone just the situation.
zzz
harry realises what most of you seem to forget, that is that his contracrt is running down and we need to liquidate him as an asset now, he will soon be worth SFA.
Frank
Is it really so rare for a footballer to come out saying they want first team football? Personally I'm fed up with players coming out thinking they know better than the manager. They aren't being picked for a reason, and most seem to have trouble figuring out why. Take last season for instance, who should we have dropped to start Abel? He plays off the striker or as an attacking MF so really its either Keane's or Jenas's place that he could naturally fit into, now neither of these two were exactly setting the world alight, but would you really want Abel on instead of them? Maybe as a sub, but Harry obviously did'nt rate him enough otherwise I'm sure he would of been on the bench. In the end though Abel didn't make the team, and we picked up lots of points, so by what right does he get to criticze the management by demanding to play? Maybe I'm reading into his comments wrongly, maybe he understands he is not good enough to play in the first team thats why he wants to move on time will tell.
ManilaYid
Manilla, you're basing your opinion of his attitude upon what the press have said!!!!. Come on fella, you're surely cleverer than that?.OR are you sitting there waiting for Van Nistelrooy, Huntelaar, Robben, Sneider, J. Cole, Veloso, Negredo, Loach, Llorente, Dunne, Johnson and the Queen to be unveiled at training on Wednesday?. Well I Read about them all signing in the press, so surely it must be true?.
coopsieyid
Manilla, Harry COULDN'T PICK TAARABT OVER JENAS OR KEANE BECAUSE HE WAS ON LOAN TO QPR AND THEN INJURED AND SENT BACK. He was NOT ignored and would not have been sent out on loan if he was just being discarded without a further thought. Seems that this could be a case where somany of us are wrong and you're right?.
coopsieyid
With harry it isn't that simple. Adel this term has contributed everytime he has stepped onto the field. least we forget hudd in his last three games for us has got two man of the match performances and a winning assist and is still dropped? What goes on in harry's head only he knows but not being good enough is not really a variable.
zzz
also if we had a centre mid of Wilson and jenas i would drop keane in a heart beat. It would be nice to see our support striker trying to get the ball into the box.
zzz
Woah coopsieyid wind your neck in, if you read an earlier comment of mine I already pointed out that Abel was on loan, I never said anything about him being ignored, just that harry didn't rate him enough to put him on the bench (which is why he was loaned), but even before Keane came and Modric was having a mare in the AMF role AT didn't do enough to convince the management to stick him in the team. Im basing my opinon on his attitude based on HIS COMMENTS in the press i.e. HIS QUOTES which are; "I'm going to leave Tottenham during the summer no matter what. They can't give me what I want, so my departure is inevitable. I need time on the pitch. At my age I can't wait any longer - I just want to play - and that is why I agreed to join QPR in March." So I say it again, maybe I'm reading into his comments wrongly, maybe he does understand he is not good enough to play in the Spurs first team thats why he wants to move on for the better of all parties concerned, I don't care if I'm right or not my views are exactly that, just my opinoin, what don't like though is players dis-respecting my club especially when we are playing well. In his defense though reading it back it doesn't read as bad as I first thought.
ManilaYid
let him go i would rather harness gio talent at spurs
artn1984
zzz I agree with a lot of what you have said but let em ask you, if Harry didn't think he was ready (probably a better way of saying not good enough) why else didn't he get more game time? Surely if he was deemed good enough we would of seen him on the bench at least? As it stands he made 4 appearences last season with only one of them being in the PL that tells me Harry didn't think he's ready.
ManilaYid
Great shame if we lose him.We need players with character and flair. He always excited when he came on for ten mins and looked a terrific if naive prospect. That fool Ramos(why did we stick with him for so long?) ruined his chances by not registering him for European selection.Except for Lennon and occasionally Moddy we have a pretty boring squad...Pav,Bent,Jenas,Bentley,Zokora etc(yawn...boring and predictable). At least when Taraabt came on we were entertained and although he was naive,he did create panic in other defences. Our present set up is just too predictable and defences eat us up.Come back Gazza or Ginola ...all is forgiven. It used to be boring Arsenal but now its boring Spurs.
wentworth
This guy seems arrogant to the extreme! I want to play in Spain! No offence to the Taarabt fans but from what i saw of him in our first team, he seemed unable to pass a ball, his step overs were telegraphed and he had a lot to learn. He seems unwilling to do this and wants to leave so why keep him. If he wants first team football and Sporting or Lazio offer £6m (HA HA) then bite their hands off, and he'll can lump first team football where he can get it!!!
Jabberyid
His best chance of playing in Spain maybe a kickabout on the beach in Benidorm.
Frank
The problem we have with this kid is that he is just not ready. he has the talent but he is not ready for our first team challenge howevr, his contract runs out and unless he gets game time and assurance of a bright future with us he will not renew his contract so next season harry has three options IMO, sell and cash in now, or start playing him and get him hooked and renew his contract or put him out on loan. However, loaning will only make the player leave anyway becuase how can he be assured that he will be played when he returns and if he gets a taste of regular football he will want to continue with that. Selling him is a gamble, a gamble of losing a player that could become a great player! but then maybe he want! giving him playing time is the carrot IMO and maybe the best option! When we are winning and have 20 mins to go then maybe Harry should take a few chances with him! lets see what the boy can do and if he takes them chances get him signed up for a further 3 years if he doesn't step up then sell him on in Jan.
loz
Hopefully 'Arry is going to play him more this season, but he has to start matches this season too. Not just coming off the bench, he is no use to anyone if he is only going to get 10-15 minutes at the end of a match.
enormenuez
I think maybe Harry has had his eye on a 1 or 2 players that would play in an advanced midfield role but has missed out on them. Thus forcing him to keep taraabt in case nothing else comes along. I hope he stays but I also think he'll be gone by August 31st.
KierzoSBC
loads of people say he is too selfish and not a team player. He is obviously taking that on board as I thought in his last run out he was too eager to try to pass the ball and gave it away a lot - which made him look poor.
dannispur
i think selling this gem & Giovani will come 2 bite us in the backside when they turn out to be great players in the future :(
rated25thfc
this player is quality, harry is right to have pulled then plug and it takes guts to do so so late in the deal. from the snippets i have seen of him he has shown he has the potential to be immense. i remember seeing him come on as a sub against west ham when we won 4-3 a few seasons ago. nobody could get close to him and he won us the freekick which drew us level (before stalteri became a hero). defo one to keep for this season.
ashfordspur
Those who advocate starting him in the PL team. What games would you choose to risk starting with him. There are no gimme games in the league, we managed to get beat against Middlesboro, Newcastle and WBA last season at least once, and they all got relegated, so who would we risk starting him against.
Frank
I think Adel could definately get a run out in the cups, especially in those pesky midweek Carling Cup games. Saying that, i'd prefer he went out on loan to another English club and returned next season with more to offer.
