Back to Robbie and Jermain this weekend?

One thing for certain this weekend, is that Jermain Defoe will return to the starting eleven, far from suffering from a three game suspension, but returning as the clubs undisputed No1 striker.

At the time of his sending off against Pompey, I was one to fear he could have messed up a potentially great and life changing season, for both club and country. But if anything, the performances of those replacing him have elevated him in the thoughts of the fans and probably his managers.

All credit to Peter Crouch, he has done little wrong in his two starts. No goals, but he was very unlucky against Stoke and completely isolated at The Emirates. Pav was anonymous in his time on the pitch and Robbie was assigned to play nearer the centre back than centre forward.

The problem may not have been Peter Crouch, but our inability to play well with him so isolated. This could easily be solved by replacing Robbie with Defoe, and both would probably relish the pairing. The question is can we really blame Robbie for obeying team orders over playing to his own strengths?

Harry has a tough decision which will to an extent offers us an insight to his thoughts for the remainder of the season and who really is the best striking partnership at this time. Does he take a brave move and drop a player for doing what he was told or drop one who has done little wrong? Surely he will do one or the other but which?

Based on his inability to make a decision on the midfield, I have a feeling that he will play them all this weekend and the man to make way will be David Bentley, and Harry will go with all his favourites in preference of picking the best team.

Is it really possible that he will pick, JJ, Palacios and Hudd in the middle and use Keane on the left and Defoe and Crouch in attack? Personally I really hope not, but is that easier than upsetting the apple kart?

Realistically we have to have a decision on the midfield or the attack as the prospect of playing all six is stupid isn`t it???

I know everyone will go with Crouch and Defoe in attack, with Keano in the cold, and whilst it isn`t easy to argue with that, I feel that Robbie deserves the backing of his manager for getting his hands dirty and doing the ugly jobs for the team. So the other kop out will be to start a pairing of Defoe and Keane and use pace over the long ball.

Harry has always struck me as a decisive manager, but this has been a worry for me in recent weeks over his seeming inability to make vital decisions in key areas. Right through the spine, from central defence, midfield and striker, there are 50/50 calls and to date he has either dodged a bullet due to injuries or simply kept everyone happy and played them all.

For me that is no longer acceptable and decisions have to be made for the team, not to keep individuals happy. If players don`t like it then perhaps they should have played better or worked harder. That ideal works elsewhere, so why not at Spurs?

Big jobs and squads, necessitate big managers and in turn decisions. If Harry wants to back his players, he has to do it for the whole team, If he wants to play Robbie Keane, then it has to be with two fingers towards the paying public and use him as he sees fit (preferably as a striker), alternatively he has to be bold and go with his old Pompey pairing and it be a thanks but no thanks for Robbie. The same applies to the midfield and when everyone is fit to the defence.

It would be a pairing of Jenas and Wilson in the middle for me and Bentley(or a fit Lennon) and Kranjcar on the wings. In attack, I would revert to Robbie and Defoe and bring Crouch on later, depending on how things are going, but I can see Harry making a call and dropping Hudd or JJ, and I can honestly see him playing Robbie on the left, with either Niko or Bentley being the fall guy and sadly that isn`t the best decision for the team, but one for the big players.

Please, please please, its make your mind up time Mr Redknapp...

keano can do 1 waste of space
j dog!
keane-defoe upfront will work better once modders is back ... Until then, i would choose Pav and defoe upfront.
RamsesV
clearly a call based on potential over current form.
oxfordspur
Pav???
oxfordspur
Pav & Defoe for me too. With Krnajcar on the right and Bale on the left JJ and Palacios in the middle.
johna
I would go for Defoe and Crouch up front based on what they did for Pompey together last year, but i am concerned by how we are playing when Crouch plays. Whether its by instruction or players getting it wrong on the park, we are losing our natural fluidity. If Defoe/Crouch has the same result on the team play as Keane/Crouch, i would be very worried that we are never going to adjust. Elsewhere, i would go for Bale on the left. I don't think Sunderland are going to give us much space in the middle, so i don't think the game will suit Hudd very much so i would leave both him and JJ on the bench for this one and put Kranjaer in the middle with Palacious to try and make things happen. Bentley probably deserves another chance on the right as the obvious deputy for Lennon, but he should get a kick up the backside after Saturday and told he needs a big performance, especially at WHL. At the back, i think Hutton works better behind Bentley than Corluka so would go for him at right back. King and Woodgate in the middle and Corluka on the left behind Bale to cover. BAE started the season well but his form has dipped a little and it wouldn't hurt him to be left out - he has been pretty much an automatic pick for nearly a season and a half now due to lack of options.
maxfield123
I would start with Keane and Defoe upfront and I would drop the vastly overrated Huddlestone and pair Palacious and Jenas with Kranjcar and Lennon on the wings. I would like to see Pavlyuchenko and Defoe given another chance upfront again - especially when Modric is back, as I still feel that Pav has a lot to offer and he and Defoe looked like they were forming a good understanding last season, before Defoe's unfortunate injury ruled him out for so long.
Dean in Brum
Let's have some pace back in the side. Defoe & Keane pairing is a no-brainer. JJ & Wilson with Lennon (if fit, else DB) and Bale or Kranjar on Left. Prefer to drop Hudd rather than JJ.
ParkLane67
Back to the formation we played early in the season, but with Kranj and Bentley instead of modric and lennon. Like for like. bentley was crap vs arsenal, but so was the rest of the team, so id give him another chance. If hes still bad, then make changes. If we just have noone to cross to then go crouch instead of keane.
Joshtottenham
Yea'h good call Ox, i seriously hope you are wrong about your suspected line up though. For me i think that Robbie at least deserves a chance to play his normal role as a No 10 along side Defoe, WP & JJ has to be a certainty doesn't it ??? Lennon [if fit] on the right if not Bentley did enough [imo] to warrent another chance & Krancjar on the left, i think the defence just about picks itself Charlie at RB, Woody and King [if fit] at CB, does Bale deserve a chance to start at LB personaly i hope so as BAE really frustrates me, when it comes to taking on his opposite number he bottles it, always takes the easy option of cutting inside on is weak right foot, i could almost forgive his defensive lapses if he showed a bit of bottle going forward,,,,Yes i would defo like to see Gareth given an oppertunity. I do not like us picking our own teams as there are too many variables that we know little about, but the article prompted me to do so, lol.
Aussie'spur
I think it's time to turn to the Crouch'Defoe partnership - with Crank, Keano, Sargeant and (one last chance!) Bentley on right. I still don't understand why Krank wasn't inc last week - bad mistake HR. JJ looks poor, Hudds invisible and I know Keano would be deeper than preferred but he can get stuck in and create so I'd put him in there with Wilson. Bentley can't be expected to return to something worth having in just one game so he should be given another go. I'm still not sure we have a strong enough left flank defence- wise (old Esso ain't having a good time) so maybe HR will opt for Bale on the left in front of Esso. Who knows! I expect HR to go for little an large up front, Keane, JJ Wilson and Bentley mid and back four of Esso (SOS?) King Daws/woody and Charlie. There a good piece on how defensive continuity and stability leads to better performance, and how important it is for Spurs to get it right soon or forget top table football next season, on the net - via Spurs website, news, Spurs in the news. I am hopeful we get back to wining this weekend and go on a bit of a run till end November. Defence wise we are struggling as this week willl be another assorted back four line up. Win anyway!!!!
andyspur4life
I like the idea of crouchie being a impact sub so its defoe and keane for me.
spurfect one
Nice Article ox although a cheeky go at the manager. I think its nice have selection problems and for once we are seeing a genuine fight for positions. I think we really need to bring in Bale on the left. He looked very good against Le ars. He offers much more than Krank or Bently, he is young and fit and if we let him wonder down the flank abit and cause problems we wont be easy to predict. Also the other thing is the clear lack of form from BAE as he has had no support from LM. Bently yes/no I dont care really so long as he does his job instead of trying to do too much. JJ is a starter and possibly Thudd over Palacious(the beast has lost some form of late). I think Arry has to do some experimenting as we could very easily get stuck again with an amazing bench that is not really in form. I said a couple of weeks back before the stoke game that Bently should play incase of Lennon getting injured. Defoe also should not just walk back into the team, I feel Harry should keep him benched for his ignorant act of stupidity.
Mix26
It has to be keano and defoe. we were doing so well with the two off them and defoe is stupid and gets sent off.Keano is an excellent player and because of this he suffers and is giving the dirty work as he is good at it.Pav is not interested and we should ship him out if we can get a half decent price.I liked pav but he dosent seem to be interested anymore.crouch is a player for the small teams, not spurs. i dont want to want route one football and dont want crouch.nothing against crouch but i like good football and we cant seem to play good football with him in the side.
The real Bolloxology
gomes, charlie, bae, king, woodgate, bentley, kranjcar, jenas, palacios, keane, defoe. this is our current strongest team without lennon and modric.
artn1984
Bale for BAE!! Please..............
cockeril
are people jokin about pav plz say you are he is awful so bad its unreal, and as for keane hes a disgrace getin worse and worse wow he scored 4 against burnley the worst away team in the prem! he is finished! it has to be crouch and defoe finally they were excellent at pompey together then havent really had a chance here!
j dog!
i would play Hutton/woodgate/king/BAE...bentley/wilson/niko/bale...crouch/defoe. if the game plan goes to pot and we start lumping the ball forward give crouchie another 10mins as atleast defoe will be hovering around him for the knockdowns and the bring on robbie for crouch
jljyid
Complete no brainer...Keano & Defoe up top. I am also agreeing with those people who are saying JJ & Palacios in midfield. He has looked sharp since coming back so give him a start. Lennon & Taraabt on the wings - erm sorry I meant Krancjar not Taraabt. Sorry, I suffer from Taraabt disease.
TornadoYid
Hang on there's a thought...Lennon & Taraabt! Now imagine those two running the...aaaaaaaaaaaaargh sh it! Sorry, I'm at it again. I'm seeing a Doctor about it. His name is Dr. Adel...
TornadoYid
If Harry goes with previous teams picked and not form it will be Gomes, Charlie, Woody King, BAE, Bentley, Palacios, Jenas, Kranjcar, Keane, Defoe. Keane may not warrant a place based on form but he pulls defenders in the wrong direction and opens space for Defoe. It wasn't just him that was shocking against Arsenal but the whole team. J Dog is slating him after scoring 4 against Burnley yet you have to ask what more he could have done? If he had not scored at all, you would be laying in to him even more!!
Chris Hart
Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate & King (if both fit, otherwise daws), Assou-Ekotto, Bentley (if lennon is still out), Palacios, Jenas, Krankjar, Keane, Defoe......we are a better side when keane and defoe start up front, we play football the right way....this also leaves a bench of, Cudicini, Hutton, Bale, Dawson, Huddlestone, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko....not too shabby
stuboi10
Defoe and Pav for me. Keano has been totally useless and I really do not buy the playing for team thing. His main attributes are skill, touch and bringing others into the game. But certainly in his recent form he looks tired, slow and really really weak. I really hope Harry gives him a rest and gives Pav a run with Defoe. If not then it will have to be Crouch and Defoe but lets not try to shoe horn Keane into MF just to avoid dropping him? Its Gomes, Bale, Daws, King, Charlie, Lennon(if fit DB if not), Wilson, JJ, Krank, Pav and Defoe. With Crouch, Keane, Hutton,Thudd and Cudi on the bench. I really do think Keane can still do a job as an impact sub in the last 20 when defenders are tired!!
RODSPURS
Crouch and Defoe starting with Robbo on the bench.Krancjar on the left with either Hudd or Jenas(mixed feelings with both of them) in the middle pairing with Palacios and Benltey on the right.I am seriously considering wanting Bale insteaed of BAE but both players can make faults deffensively at LB so wont mind who plays there. When will Gio be back ,im still waitng for his chance to shine.
Daz Hotspurs
Keane MUST NOT start! Hutton, Dawson, Woodgate, BAE, Lennon, Kranjcar, Palacios (Captain), Bale, Pav and Defoe. I'm not keen on Pav starting but he can't be any worse than Keane, and if we start with Crouch, we'll probably end up lumping it forward. Keep Jenas out - I'm sick of the site of him!
Scottspur
I cant believe we are approaching our 14th game of the season and there are still people on here crying out for Pavlyuchenko to play up front. It's now well know fact that the Russian goal machine is about as usefull to us as rubber lips on a woodpecker!! I dont know how anyone can concieve that he could come into the team and make any kind of impact, he has never shown any kind of sign to support this. It's just blind faith surely! It's the same with Gareth Bale. Why bring him in when we dont play a system to suit him? He's not solid enough to play left back and he's got nowhere near the pace to make up for his lack of guile in LM. Unless we change the whole formation to incorporate a 3rd CB and 2 Wing Backs, Gareth Bale, in his current state, is of very little use to us. Especially compared to what we get from BAE at left back and Krancjar at LM. The fact of the matter is that in order to get back to where we were before this mild blip, we need to get our original team back, or at least as close to it as we can (due to injuries) and start playing the kind of football that we excell at. Fast paced, with good movement and passing. So for me, the starting lineup has to be Gomes - Corluka, Dawson, King, Bae - Lennon, Jenas, Palacios, Krancjar - Keane, Defoe.
KierzoSBC
I actually want Keane 4th choice striker..Pav needs his chance too.And I want any central defender tha can best compete with Bent as we all know he is out to prove his point so im really hoping for the fitness of King and Woodgate..
Daz Hotspurs
Stick Taraabt up front.
TornadoYid
gomes.... charlie daws king.....bale hutton sarg jj keane.....crouch defoe, 352 with wing back
123spurs
KierzoSBG, it's not about the quality of players coming into the side, it's about punishing the failures. Is Pavlyuchenko really worse than Keane? Let's give him one more chance. How many times can Keane start, play *****, and then start the next game? It's not on. By playing Bale and Kranjcar, we keep Jenas and Cuddlestones out - that's more than enough reason to give Bale a chance.
Scottspur
Slottspur - "It's about punishing failures" I think I missed the programme where Harry decided to inorporate a Nazi-esque regime into White Hart Lane. 1st of all, whether Keane is a failure or not is down to personal opinion. My opinion is that Keane, although having not reached the lofty heights of form as he did in 07/08, has done a more than steller job for us this season. He's scored 7 goals in 12 games, has played easily the most unrewarding, unselfish role of any player in our squad and turns up, knocks his balls in and gets slatted for it, week in week out. For me, that's more punishment than the guy deserves. What you're looking to do is play a desperately low on confidence, low on match fitness, out and out striker with another out and out striker! This might work if somehow the Russian has a miraculous change in attitude AND if we have someone who is willing to show themselves in midfield, but I'm afraid without Modric, we dont have that player. We could of course play Crouch but again how long can we go without scoring before the instinct to just fire long balls up to the guy kicks in. The overwhelming evidence supports playing Keane and Defoe up front. We have played our best football, got our best results and scored more goals when them two play together and for you and the other handfull of guys on here to suggest otherwise, although being respectfully your opinions, is absolutely ridiculous as far as I'm concerned.
KierzoSBC
if we lose this 1 good bye 2 finishin in da top 6 with crouch startin its all long wasteful balls pav is useless as keane is but keane and defoe worked well at da start so wel av ta do it again, stil tink we need 3 r 4 big name players b4 we can crack da top4,spurs 2-2sundl cant c us beatin them
glendalough yid
On the subject of Pav, i have thought since the start of the season he deserves a chance. However, his two appearances last week he looked decidedly disinterested and lacklusture. Okay, he will be lacking sharpness and he came on into a struggling side on Saturday, but i would have at least expected a bit of fire in him. He looks like he has already gone in his mind, and as such - while i rate him as a player - if that is the case, we can't rely on him ahead of any of the other three. (I do, however, hope i am wrong and he proves it next time he gets a chance).
maxfield123
keane doesnt deserve ***** but a place on the bench. im sick of ppl making excuses, he is just awful! give pav a whole game or lets play with crouch and ACTULLY CROSS some besides a few weak floaters....
attwooll9
lol taarbt up front. honestly i wud like to see that. his lack of passing wudnt matter as much as wen he plays midfield and he has a shot. gotta b better than keane....
attwooll9
Nah glendalough yid, we'll beat them alright. They've a team packed full of our rejects. Would we take Bent, Reid and Malbranque back now? I doubt it. The injuries are a problem and they do have a lot of pace in their side but like us they arent overly solid at the back so we shouldnt have a problem sticking at least 3 past them. I agree with you though about Keane. I wouldnt go as far as to say the guys useless but he hasnt been his best of late and as you say, given how well Keane and Defoe have worked so far this season they'll have to start together this weekend and that's exactly what I expect Harry is thinking.
KierzoSBC
tornado fancies taraabt ;-)
paddypower
i would bite your arm off for malbranque at the moment, them mazy runs in the box from the left, chipping in a few goals.......was he not part of the team that finished 5th twice???
paddypower
Keane has had far too many chances and even the Keane lovers that sit around me have had enough and think he needs a spell on the bench. He's just been too off the pace for too long! BAE actually changed my mind with his performances a while ago, but he too appears to think that he is immune like Robbie to being dropped! Thudd i'm sorry to say just may be one of those talents that never quite fulfills the potential. We need to get to a point where people are genuinely playing for their places! This just is not the case and some people play like they know they'll be in next week regardless!! At least Krank, Daws and Bale certainly don't hide and actually look like they want the chance!! God what i'd give to be able to use 50% pay 50% Win bonus!!
RODSPURS
Paddy - I agree we do need a 100% effort man like "STEED!!"
RODSPURS
our trusty STEED,indeed............. i bet he fecking scores on Saturday
paddypower
attwooll9 - I'm with you! I read somewhere that Pav has played 62 minutes in total in 4 sub appearances in the PL this season, thats 15.5 minutes on average a game to shine......come on? Even the best professionals would be p***ed off! Oh and by the way when he came on against Brum he did well...played the switch to the left hand side that resulted in Lenno scoring the winner!! I just want Harry to say to him I'm gonna give you a few games from the start. By saying Pav is a top footballer and not playing him, he just confuses everyone including Pav.
RODSPURS
Hope not but if STEED and BENT do in a 3-2 win for us I'll give them good clap!!
RODSPURS
Id go for Defoe Crouch to start with Wilson Jenas(I know I know but what the ***** else can we do) as Hudd is well off it. Bale left Niko right Bentley has had his bloody chance Woodgate Dawson CB what worries me is we will miss Bassongs pace against Bent who is nailed on to score.
spurdon
Defoe's immaturity and petulance has cost us dear, I hope his little rest has given him time to both think and grow up !
spurkent
Defoe and Keane. Its been a winning combination this season up until Defoes Red card so I would stick with it. If it doesn't work then by all means bring on Crouchie.
MJBSpur
I just hope we keep Bentley in, he couldn't be expected to shine on his own against the scum and did well in the league cup, while Lennon is out he has to be given a decent chance, he has the quality we need to show some faith. And for anyone who still hates him for his roots forget it, he is at Spurs and wants to be here FULL STOP.
stu_u2k
spurkent - I'm still confused by that one and i'd like to ask him what that was all about? I can only think it was history or he said something really bad (JD's brother maybe) cos I cannot understand why you would stamp on someone without the force to hurt them, but just enough to get sent off and banned for 3 games! Really reminded me of the ZZ headbutt! Weird!!!
RODSPURS
stu_u2k - We just want him to stop trying to look like Beckham. Forget the flicks and tricks (unless its 3-0) and start to get the ball out of his feet and put some blinding crosses in for Crouchie/Pav like he did for Blackburn for RSC/McCarthy. He just needs to do it simple like he did in the CC against Everton...No more No less!
RODSPURS
Spot on Spurkent. players (much as i love watching Defoe) need to understand the consequencies. I know it was out of character but reckless, stupid and pointless spring to mind... and i'm not talking about Keane! i also agree with stu, keep Bentley in and give him a run if Lennon is still out.
whitey0372
This is a very good question and topicold. I would say that if the forward line have a symmetrical teamworkers and that from the first they can pass it of the ball....take in mind the measured beat of a one, two, throo or fido....... so that the ball can falollop out to the wingers and a very fine trittly how in a run and drop kick and carry one and shooting in the goal if they can get by without an offsider which is known on the ref and don't throw the bottload because he's only doing his best. But, er, it'll be hard on their halfbackers because I don't think they'll get a chance to do a falolloper shooty on the front line with their deep joy of, shall we say, an express in their enthusiasm to the first who to clop falollop in the goalmouth. Oh yes.
lordjohnny
As much as I agree that JD cost us with his red card ou cant blame him for our form over last 3 games he has been missing, blame the other strikers ... Kenae is poor, how he gets to start every game is beyond me ... everyone slates pav but where has his chance been ... give him 11 games he will score goals he is a good striker and can play with Defoe has they proved last season before JD was injured ... if crouch plays we will play predictable long balls ... Keane pulss the defenders away? did a good job last sat HUH? .... Pav & JD up front Gomes, BAE, Woodgate King/Dawson. Bale, Hudd Sarg Bentley. no JJ for me. Keane not even on bench if I had my way get some gio
E17YID
KierzoSBC. You have to either punish the week in week out failures by dropping them, or award these failures by starting them in the next game. What's happened to our supposed squad? Why should Keane or some the others keep getting chances, then, not take them. No wonder Pavlyuchenko is fed up having to sit through yet another dire Keane non-appearance. It sends out the wrong signal to the rest of the squad; the message says 'no matter how ***** Harry's favourites play, there isn't a hope in hell that I'm going to get a chance to start a game'. I keep hearing that Redknapp is a great 'man manger', boll*!ks!
Scottspur
Tornado Im loving this Love for Taarabt you have!! :-)
GrinsteadYid
Well said Scott, the way HR is going he is going to start losing some of the players, I love HR but I dont want this to end up being another Bog Jol situation where he make exceptional progress then he is out of the door due to player power. I agree you need a stable team but lackluster players need to be outed and give other player a shout ... Give PAV a shout!! I know pikey will be starting on Sat droppping deep not being on the end missing an open goal etc , no doubt he will F up or w/e again.
E17YID
kranjcar must play in the starting lineup but id love to see bale start either at LB or come in the game for kranjcar or bae if not. he offers something new at least and id like to see his strength at defense before i jump on his bandwagon...but maybe this gets BAE to wakeup too. as far as right side goes corluka in rb and anyone but bently ffs!

Of course it makes sense. Until the underachievers realise that they're not automatic choices and that they need to step up a gear or two, they'll believe that what they've been doing is good enough; it quite obviously isn't. Redknapp needs to start taking charge of the team by showing them who's boss and that he doesn't have favourites. For example, it was painfully clear to all by half time that the team he picked to start on Saturday wasn't able to create anything. You could argue that if the team came in level at half time, the tactics were working. Fact is, they didn't. Why not change it at half time? He was too scared to upset those that have continually let us supporters down. It's not good enough. If Redknapp deems the players that are sitting on the bench untrustworthy, what does that say to all the players out on loan? Redknapp has done very well since Ramos, but cracks are beginning to appear in his tactical awareness against top sides; he can only blame injuries and other peoples signings for so long. He has had and will get the backing from the club. Last year we were desperate and needed proven PL players that could come in and 'do a job' from the off, but it's different now and in this next window we need to see some of this famous 'wheeler dealing'. We need to ship the ***** out and bring in some players that can put in an honest and decent performance, week in, week out.

I'd like to claim credit but I plagiarised Stanley Unwin.....remember him? (Wikiquote Stanley Unwin= Rotaty Diskey and you'll find said text about Spurs chances of winning the Cup in 1960.)

Totally 100% agree with Scottspur. Our situation is totally different now and Redknapp needs to decide what style he eventually wants to play and what personnel he needs to achieve it. Our great start was down to our speed and quick passing so, when the team was announced against Arsenal I knew there was no chance because of the severe lack of pace in the side. HR should have trusted Gio at the start of the season and gave him a run in the team from the bench and also look at taarabt too. Keane has quality but for me this 'dip' was always coming because he no longer has Berbatov. January is crucial for us because we have too many players coming off the high at the start of the season and are beginning to show their true ability which isn't good enough.
BlackStar Spur
I agree oxford that Defoe goes straight back into the starting lineup and that Crouch should be dropped so we start playing football on the ground again however I would not partner Defoe with Keano in order to achieve this. I would play Defoe with Pav, a player who whilst being able to lead the line and score headed goals also has great technique on the ground. Keano needs at the very least a rest as his legs looked gone against the Arse.
Officer X
Officer X and Rodspurs you are totally deluded to name Pav.He has been awful for us and you've actually admitted he's lazy, has poor control and lacks commitment and aggression.I have watched him closely in every game he has played and rarely does he show any spark of life.Last Saturday's "cameo" of total ineffectiveness summed him up.If he wants to play for Spurs,he needs to show some desire and passion even if its only for 15 mins.

BlackStar, a lot of that 'speed and quick passing' was down to Modric's technique and speed of thought. Losing Lennon hasn't helped at all, but even so, Lennon's game is somewhat one dimensional. Should a team that has spent millions of pounds have to completely change its principles due to the fact that one player has been out injured? No! The squad is seriously lacking creativity in the centre of the park, and with the amount of money that has been wasted on the team, it's a disgrace. We need at least one striker, two midfielders and probably another CB in the January window to compete.
Scottspur
Im sorry but i have to go with the offload pav brigade ,whats his next excuse other than the current "mental problems", hes got an identity crisis and multiple personalities? When is my main Luka predicted to return does anyone have the inside word on that magical event!? And how long is A Lennon out for?
Uskok
Scottspur, if you knew me you'd know that I think Modric is GOD and is the only reason we play well imo. When I mentioned speed and quick passing I was talking about both GODric and Lennon. My point is that at times this season the team without modric is unsure against the top sides and they start hoofing it to Crouch plus the fact that Keane still starts games when he looks off the pace. But I am sure Redknapp will use the Jan window to tweak the first 11. He's the man for the job

there is a lot of crap on this thread. Generally a lot of people seem to be in favour of massive rotation whenever anyone has a bad game, that always works well doesn't it? some people think we should have started Gio from the beginning...i have no words for such a suggestion, guess our best start in ~1 billion years wasnt good enough for you. Were crap at the moment because all our key players are injured (for the record THAT is where our squad is, out on the pitch). With regard to Keane, I believe he is 'doing a job' for the manager, and that noone else can fulfil this job, its all very well saying pav should play, but he would not help out in midfield, which means we would have less dominance of possession - which has been a key part of our play when we have played well. Was I frustrated by keane not pushing forward against arsenal - yes, do I think we would have conceded more if he hadnt stayed back - also yes. We simply were not strong enough against arsenal - half the team was second string....or just forget it, whine until we win again (and then still bitch about jenas/keane/pav/whoever you blindly hate)
Joshtottenham
Problem we have is the best partner for Defoe is Crouch but then the reat of the team change their styleofplay and go for the long ball which they can't do and they also put high floating balls in to Crouch which are usless as they need pace on them. Harry has to stop accommodating players and as to make a decision who is the best PARTNERSHIP up front.

Bravo Josh, I salute you sir!

Ox your team selection is spot on except for Bentley IMO. Obviously Lennon if fit, if not anyone but Bentley will do nicely... Naughton, Hutton ?
MrJ70
OMG Ive never seen so much cheese and WHINE in my life before! Shame poor pav! Did any of u actually see his attitude on sat????Leave him to rot! He is clearly not interested in playing for us he has been absolute garbage since his arrival so how do u expect Harry to select him??? People are talking about not showing hes got balls to pick certain players? Do me a favour!
Mix26
I would like to see Bale given a run at left back now! Does anybody know how long Modric is out for?
Stugots
MrJ70, a fit Lennon and I would 100% have him in, I would even consider using Niko on the right and Bale on the left, this would much depend on their work and reaction to last week. To be fair to bentley he was good against everton, therefore deserved a game at arsenal, but as average as he was so was everyone else in a game when the tactics were totally wrong and perhaps at odds with bentleys game. we also have to accept that we got a reaction to a poor arsenal result at West Ham and they were very impressive on the day.

I have to wonder where the pro Pav comments are coming from, as much as I respect the opinions of the likes of officer x for example, I have to question the reasons why he should be brought in over crouch who has played well in his two recent games. I like the Pav/ defoe pairing so to an extent agree they could potentially be a good and possibly our best pairing (particularly with Modric), but when Pav has come on he looks totally devoid of confidence or enthusasm on top of his understandable lack of match sharpness.
oxfordspur
On top of his agents comments and his poor goals ratio ox.

I say lets lay off Keano and support our boys!! Fair enough he left and realsied the grass wasn`t greener but now he`s back and when he pulls on that famous white shirt he should have 30,000 yids chanting his name giving him the confidence to be the hero he once was coz lets face it you dont lose class overnight!!!!!!!! COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Josh - Don't think we should have a "massive rotation everytime someone has a bad game" but niether do I think that players should have 4 p**s poor games in a row and still play the 5th. As for Keane "doing a job' for the manager" I fail to see that Harry has asked him to run around, point, lose the ball, bottle tackles, point, miss chances, complain to the ref that a player took his ball and be completely ineffective! I'm pretty sure anyone in the squad can do that. No ones saying we're not happy with the start but Harry needs to react before we p**s our good start away with a s**t mid season!!
RODSPURS
Wentworth - tell me if you think that 15 minutes in 4 games is the way to get the best out an international striker that cost us £14m If i'm honest I would have to say just like a lot of blinkered managers Harry wants his own people and Pav just like Bent and KPB is not gonna get the chance with a run in the side to prove he's great or ****e! I could see that to get the best out of Bent we would have to play a un-Spurslike type of football and I can also see with KPB that we had a lot of midfielders to choose from, so I can understand his logic. But not with Pav, if he doesn't get the chance and Russia qualify he will go REALLY CHEAP in Jan and I for one believe we will regret it!!
RODSPURS
SpaldingYid - By the way I do support our boys even when they're poor like Saturday. I have never or will never boo them (was disgusted by the Ghaly treatment) cos I love my club. I sing, clap and encourage them until the 90,91,92,93 or 99th(UTD) minute. This is where I vent my frustrations, oh and in the pub obviously....Oh and I kick the dog occasionally!! ;-)
RODSPURS
defoe and crouch please!
yidinchina
JJ Still???? Seriously??
nomorewhlegends
Keane and JD everytime for me, i dont rate Pav, but think he better than Crouch, dnt njoy watch us wen Crouch plays!! JJ and Sarge CM everytime, Crank on the left and another player i dnt rate dat much Bentley on the right, defence picks itself!!, time to play the strongest poosible team.
Ossie
I really think if we were to play Crouch, Bently could shine in ths game! my team would be Gomes, Hutton, King, Woodie, BAE, Bentley, Wilson, Crank, Bale, Defoe, Crouch. That team has both Height and pase cover both areas of attack
JonnyArdiles
I agree Ossie when Crouch is on Spurs seem to lose teeth although please anyone but pav the mumbling russian scared of the dark.I think Keane plays better with real competition from Defoe and maybe bring on crouch later in the game for a bit of variety.
Uskok
I must admit I have thought on a couple of occasions on how would JJ be as a striker.I would honestly think he will make a decent striker.Would love to see them experiment in the FA cup with that idea.
