And the positives of signing Foster are???

The latest talk is that Spurs could stupidly offer £6 million for unhappy Man Utd keeper Ben Foster, For reasons that really are beyond me...

Firstly I would say that I have nothing against Foster and think he is a reasonable keeper, but what would he truly offer Tottenham or for that matter what would leaving the bench at United for the heated seats at White Hart Lane offer Ben Foster??

Foster can no longer be considered as a hot prospect, even in goalkeeping terms. At 26, he should be at an age when he is playing regular football, but when he got his chance at the start of this season, I would argue that he hardly covered himself in glory and it appeared the United gloves were a little too big for him.

In fairness keeping for a club like United is probably one of the biggest tests of character in football and better men than him have failed. But the facts remain that he was at fault for goals on several occasions, and the majority were basic or careless errors. This is of course something our own No1 does a little too often, but his are balanced with brilliance and that could be enough to forgive the occasional moment of madness.

I can understand Fosters frustration at losing his place to a fit again Van der Saar, but he is the better and more composed keeper. If the young pretender doesn`t like it, then I can see he will have to look elsewhere, but is the Tottenham bench a step up? Of course not!

In a World Cup season it seems that only Klaas-Jan Huntelaar isn`t anxious about his starting place, and I can understand that Foster sees an opportunity to push for the No1 shirt for England, with James looking doubtful and no other player truly looking solid, but he needs to either move to a club where he would be a certain No1 and there aren`t too many obvious positions at the moment or he is probably wiser to stick where he is and see what happens in the summer.

The possibility that Tony Parks has firsthand knowledge of Foster and other young English keepers cannot be dismissed, which also adds credence to the likes of Scott Loach at Watford or Joe Lewis at Peterborough as possible options, but do they have the experience we need as back up and offer a serious challenge to Gomes? Perhaps Harry sees the third choice keeper as another worry, as Ben Alnwick is not the keeper we hoped and is David Button a serious option? Interestingly Button is only 9 months younger than Loach. Obviously though, third choice isn`t a position you spend money on is it??

think that a new keeper is now firmly at the top of Harry`s shopping list, but unless he still has serious doubts over the ability of Gomes, the idea of bringing in Foster is a nonsense for both Spurs and more so the player himself. The recovery of Carlo Cudicini could still be key to who, if anyone we buy, and if the medics feel Carlo could be back for the start of next season, we would be stupid to dismiss this as I don`t see too many more sensible No2s out there, without spending big or taking a step down...

hope if we go for a keeper he will be noun British as home grown keepers get slated a lot more than foreign keepers.
bazdog
hopefully Carlo makes a full recovery as he is a great no2 plus for his own personnel self.
bazdog
he is one dodgy keeper........................
WestStandEnclosure
I still can't figure out whether Harry rates Gomes and will back him to be the best keeper in the Prem. He is adapting his game for the Prem and looks to have some genuine talent and in my opinion is already in the top 5 keepers in the Prem. The flip side of him becoming as dominant in our 1st team as say Van der Sar, Cech, Given or Reina is that we may start a conveyor belt of backup keepers who join thinking they can displace him and then get disillusioned and move on. Of course we need competition for places and adequate cover for injuries but getting a second keeper will be difficult. Personally I would like to get Cuducini back fit and get a contract extension on the table for next season. James after the world cup works as well but I'm just nervous about bringing in keepers in January who are vying for their place in South Africa when Gomes is in that position himself. Sharing the gloves never works and we need to give him time to see whether he can turn all that potential into a week in, week out top performer.
muttley
Ox, what about Jimmy Walker? Is he injured too and if not is he not a sufficient number 2 while Carlo is out? I don't really rate Foster all that much, he's another typical England keeper full of mistakes. The one I'd like to see come in to push Gomes (and we won't get him) is Hart. I like the looks of that lad and think he could turn into a decent England No1.
MJBSpur
arry loves a challenge
123spurs
I thought CC's contract ends this season and if so I cant see the point in extending him - in my opinion he is nowhere near as good as Gomes - very shaky on decision making and crosses; despite the positive spin I would find it hard to believe that at 36 with a few months out of the game he would get back to the standard he was before, let alone improve. This leaves us needing another keep assuming that the coaches, who have seen all our keepers in training, feel that there is no-one strong enough to act as a backup for Gomes. Surely this would be better suited to someone who doesnt mind bench time rather than a player who expects to be number 1, unless Harry knows something about Gomes (fitness issues or homesickness) that we dont - he does seem to pick up more than his fair share of injuries.
suspiciousminds
I really dont mind Foster coming to Spurs but he must realise that he will be no 2 keeper behind Gomes....The more you play Gomes the better he gets and Im sure bigger teams are gonna come knocking at our door soon for the Brazilian
Daz Hotspurs
It seems that much about football is beyond you OXFORD SPUR. Foster would be a great number two. He would give much needed comp for Gomes and he would also improve his own game with our coaches. At 6 million for a 26 year old it is a win win situation. What is there not to understand about this deal. Just do it Harry.
johna
Cudicini will never be the same again, no way, two broken wrists ( I have had one at it has never felt the same) and a broken pevlis that he has to land on each day, plus he is 36 will be 37 whne he returns. He has played his last game. Gomes should be nu ber one for years. Foster seems too much for a second choice keeper.
chappers
Foster will be no use to us, stuck on the bench, not playing and he will have no chance at playing first team, we got some good and young keppers coming to age and Jimmy is there incase it may be wise to get a chamionship keeper, one who won't mind sitting on ther bench but would love a move to a top 6 club. COMEONYOUSPURS
spurs4evaa
kirkland?????? still has age on his side
pachna_spurs
problem with Kirkland is that he has a cronic back problem which doesnt allow him to train fully and he is often liable to wake up on the morning of a game and not be able get out of bed. As for Walker, I really have no clue as to why he isnt even considered. It wouldnt surprise me if he was moved on in Jan and was only brought in because Alnwick was injured at the time of his arrival and Button was on loan and it felt he would learn more playing that returning to spurs.
oxfordspur
I really don't think we are going to find a better keeper than Gomes, he may have his wobbly moments but he has shown he can make blinding, and match winning, saves. If we accept he is likely to be Spurs no 1 for the next few seasons then that limits who will be the no 2. A keeper like Foster can't afford to be sitting on the bench at this stage of his career, I'm not sure he has worked this out yet. We either need an experienced pro prepared to be a backup or a young keeper we have faith in who has time to develop.
jod
does anyone know what the deal is with Jimmy Walker?
MJBSpur
MJBSpur
Sorry Ox just noticed that you did cover him a couple of posts above.
MJBSpur
There are some reports linking us with a move for Baptista. How would people feel about us signing him?
MJBSpur
The benefit of signing foster would be that we appreciate Gomes more.
Audere est Facere
I just think this ones a non starter. He won't come if he's not gauranteed the No1 spot and he isn't good enough to demand it ahead of Gomes. If we do get a new keeper it either has to be a promising youngster that is happy to deputies but is also at that stage where he's good enough to step up and challenge for the jersey when his chance arrives (not an easy player to find). Or it needs to be an old hand that is experienced enough to steady the ship when Gomes is injured (basically another Cudicini!). Either way Foster isn't the answer.
MJBSpur
Signing Foster would be a good thing but i dont think we will. He's a good keeper, yeah he's made some high profile mistakes but then what keeper hasnt?. If gomes got injured ( please no ) mid jan' what would we do? personally i'd feel calmer about it knowing we had foster stepping up rather than a kid who shows promise. Its often said that keepers mature a lot later than outfield players so i'll give foster his howlers for now and if he starts to erase them from his game i think he'll end up a very good keeper. Buy him 'Arry and scott parker.
Himwhatwhats
Why is this even being discussed fellas?. It's ONLY the press talking AGAIN.. Foster says he's unhappy (NOT that he wants to leave), then the press think to themselves "hmmm which club ALWAYS buys players who become available", then Robert's your aunty's husband and there's a bull5hit story for them to print... Foster WON'T be coming to Spurs. Cudicini WILL be replaced. By who?. Let's just wait and see eh, and leave the crap for the reportes to chuck about..
coopsieyid
The positives are that he's youngish and English, 'plays' in the premier league so there'd be no problem adapting. The negatives are that he's s**te for the most part, he won't trade in being United's number 3 to be our number 2 and £6m is a lot for a goalkeeper, especially one that we'd probably play 10 times a season, conceding 20 haha
bernio3000
Non starter IMO but you never know whats going on in Harry's mind!! Foster won't come to us to sit on the bench thats the reason he's moaning at UTD!! The only way this has any weight is if Harry doesn't rate Gomes and thinks he can out him for more money to give him some wheeler dealer cash!! If that was the case he can tell Foster he's gonna be No1. But for me Gomes is the better keeper and I think he will be a legend at the lane! IMO
RODSPURS
Baptista is the least Brazilain Brazilian I've ever seen.. he's pants!!
RODSPURS
Baptisat is YET ANOTHER player who is NOT coming to Spurs. He says so, his agent says so, the whole bloody world says so, except gutter tabloids ofcourse.. Really fellas, is there not a name of significance we can talk about?, one who actually may be coming to us. I hear Capel is possible?, know nothing about the lad except what I've read. Sounds like a VERY promising/good left sided player though?.
coopsieyid
No way Foster would displace Gomes - so why would Foster bother? Surely he wouldn't be happy with another bench place and a few LC games? Anyway IF he was good enough he would have taken his chances by now - he's number 3 at Utd for a reason! Surely we can find cover elsewhere. Not one for me. Nor that least Brazilian Brazilian bloke either!
andyspur4life
Ben Foster had his chance playing a good few games for Man U and slipped up so now he is in panic mode and im sure he is looking to be 1st choice keeper at another club to prove he is the one for England...But where to go is another story as Im sure every (maybe almost) club is happy with their 1st choice...My guess is that he will go on loan to Hull as maybe Phil Brown will think that he will perform miracle games to get them outta the mess...There is no point in him coming to Spurs as he wants to be 1st choice but wont get that with Gomes around..Or why not Sunderland after Defoe accidentally injured their keeper....YES,,thats it,,he will be most suited on a loan move to Sunderland
Daz Hotspurs
Foster is the best young keeper and Englands No`1 IMO. He still will never be as good as Gomes and I would not swap Gomes with anyone and he will get even better...you have not seen anything yet!
cockeril
No matter how much we want reinforcements in January I very much doubt any big names will be joining us. All this capel, VDV, Ruud talk isn’t going to happen. I reckon the two coming in January will be this Sandro bloke who no1 knows bugger all about and 2nd attempt on M petrov. I personally feel we desperately need anther goal scorer and if I were harry id stick in a 20m bid for Bojan @ barca. Instead, we will waste 20m + on mediocre players that we will sell for 10m in a years time after they’ve kept the bench warm. Oh yeah, as far as the article is concerned, it’s clearly bull so not even worth discussing.
hudderspur
All these rumours get stronger and stronger as The Jan window period nears...So I think halfway through December I will start taking these rumours a bit more serious....
Daz Hotspurs
100% made up *****!
Scottspur
I'd rather we made a bid for Robert Green whilst West Ham are desparate for cash...
The Voice Of Reason
Regardless of whether this story is a load of bull or not I am 100% confident in anyone Harry thinks will improve the team/squad. His signings so far have all been spot on and I'm sure that will continue to be the case. Like Hudderspur said, we have been guilty of buying average players in the past only to sell them on a season or two later but I genuinely think that is a thing of the past now, Harry knows what he's doing.
MJBSpur
The Keane re-signing is slowly revealing itself to be a disaster, Crouch is a goal shy journey man who should never start a game for us, Defoe, despite a good start has never been prolific (13 league goals is his highest in one season) and will probably be ineffective in 50% of games, and then there is Chimbonda. Clearly, all of Harry's signings have been 'spot on'. He needs to up his game in this transfer window if we're to have any chance of competing for the 4th spot. We're not Portsmouth.
Scottspur
Scottspur, have a quick glance to the right mate and tell me how you can be so negative when were sitting 4th. Keane has had a dip in form but has been asked to play out of possition at times and played a massive part in savingour asses last season. Critisism of Crouch is pure ignorance, he's barely put a foot wrong and has still scored a fair number of goals and assists concidering his lack of starts and as for Defoe he has been quality since his return to us. It amazes me how you can be so criticle and negative in spite of our current possition. Had we been told we'd be 4th at this stage above Liverpool, Man City and Villa we'd all have been over the moon you included.
MJBSpur
Oh and Chimbonda was a very shrewd signing when we were up ***** creek with injuries at the back and he was the perfect man to provide cover at both RB an CB if needed and as soon as that crisis was over Harry shipped him back out for the same money we paid! Brilliant management if you ask me. We actually have a balanced squad for the first time in donkeys years and despite having some major injury problems, Modric, King, Woodgate, Dawson, Lennon, Defoe, Jenas, Bassong we are STILL largely uneffected and sitting 4th. How can you critisise Redknapps transefer dealings in light of all that?
MJBSpur
4th place though probably hides the real issues. The sum of the parts are working at the moment but you still can't get excited about Harry's signings except for maybe Pallacios and Defoe. We should give him time though as some signings were out of necessity to balance and deepen the squad. He's definitely played the numbers game with Chimbonda, Cuducini, Crouch, Kranjcar, Bassong, Walker(s), Naughton. Ideally across 2 transfer window we would sign 3 maybe 4 players only and make them major signings. Once Harry has got rid of a few fringe players I can see us improving the quality of our signings.
muttley
@MJBSpur - There is no negativity at the house of Scottspur; only incisive thinking that cleanly cuts through the superficial herd like commentary of our game from lesser souls such as yourself. If avoiding relegation; finishing in a respectable position and looking up into the air for large parts of the game is your idea of excellence, then yes, Harry has bought more than wisely.
Scottspur
If our ambitions are realised, we shall by the end of this season, be looking at playing in excess of 55-60 games in season 2010-11, with the 38 PL fixtures, plus hopefully good runs in the CC and FA cups, and several more games in either the CL, or the Europa league, depending on our qualification successes. This means there will be ample games for 2 GKs of equal or similar quality. The situatuion between now and the end of the season, is that we have no tangible stand-in for Gomes in the event of injury, or if he throws a form wobbler similar to before. Cudacinni is not likely to get back to "match fitness" this season, if at all. We should remember that he is 36 now so I dont personally think we should be holding our breath with a contract extention for next season, even if he gets back to full fitness, which must be in doubt. We should be looking elsewhere. In fact I would be in favour of looking at terminating Cudacinni's contract in January, on the grounds of "breach of conditions regarding dangerous activities liable to affect his ability to play", to finance the signing of another GK. That GK should not be Ben Foster, if he is only 3rd choice at Man U, why should he be able to vye for 1st choice with us. As I have said in another posting, I would rather try to tempt Bolton with a bid for Jaaskaelanen (spelling). He is a top keeper well able to rotate with, cover for, or even displace Gomes dependent on form, for the No.1 shirt. There can be no doubt that this GK situation is urgent and could affect the success of our season if not addressed. I dont think with the best will in the world we should be trusting the likes of Walker, Alnwick, Button or Butcher, Janson etc. etc. in the event of a problem with Gomes, we desperately need a decent keeper in the January window.
Frank
Your clueless mate. I know some people, yourself obviously included, seem to think that we can go from relegation fodder one season to buying the likes of kaka and ronaldo the next but unfortunately in the real world thats not the case. When Harry took over we were very seriously looking like being relegated. He made the right signings to not only get us out of it but damn near qualifying for Europe. (stage 1). (stage 2) He has then added to those signings with the best he could get that were willing to come to us with the primary objective no doubt being UEFA qulification with an optimistic punt at the top 4. I'd say hes bang on course wouldn't you? (stage 3) Having placed us in a very strong possition with the Jan window approaching no doubt he will have a greater ability to attrack the next level of players with the realistic promise of a push for the CL. Based on the obvious progression he has made in just 1 and a bit years at the club I have every confidence that he will continue to target the right players to improve the side. Negative people always consider themselves to be realists when in fact their expectations are anything but.
MJBSpur
*just to clarify the above is a reply to Scottspur not you Frank :-)*
MJBSpur
You had me worried for a minute MJBSpur, I thought Christ, what have I said that has upset him that much LOL.
Frank
bang on post mjb totally agree.off post anyone heard whats happening with the modfather?
haverhill spurs
Definately siding towards your argument MJB, Harry is building us from the bottom up. Unfortunately we can't expect to attract the biggest and brightest so we have to make do with the best that we can attract. We've made a decent start to this season and hopefully we can last until January in the top four or at least within reach of it. Then I have no doubt that we can start to attract slightly better players. I say slightly because we still have a relatively tight wage structure and the taxation over here is ridiculous!
bernio3000
If you're going to accuse someone of being 'clueless', at least use the little intellect available to you to spell the first word of your churlish comment correctly. I can't comment on who Redknapp might buy in the future, but only on players that he already has, and I believe, unlike you, that for the money the club paid (Palacios the exception), that they're not good enough. I've said before that Redknapp has done a good a job so far, I just hope he proves me wrong in thinking that he's more suited to trading in second hand bangers rather than shiny new sports cars.
Scottspur
well put mjb and i dont see why you had to even write it in the first place its all so blooming obvious
jljyid
That was in reply to MJBspur and not bernio3000 who also spelt the first word of his comment incorrectly; tut, tut.
Scottspur
'Definately siding towards your argument MJB, Harry is building us from the bottom up.' Bernio, your argument has no legs ;-)
Scottspur
Big fan of Jaaskalienen
HuddersfieldYiddo
Lol Scottspur is on the rampage again haha!! Let's see if I can get some positivity out of him; What is your favourite thing about Spurs Scottspur?
TornadoYid
In regards to the article - I think he would be a good number 2 - but in view of having him as a long term prospect for number 1 - no thankyou - too dodgy for me. Jaaskalinen would be a great signing HuddersfieldYiddo. I think he is arguably the best goalkeeper in the premiership. Gomes wouldnt be happy on the bench though now would he.
TornadoYid
you could do worse as a number 2 but foster would be better signing for a smaller team and playing games. there has to be someone better out there who is a decent number 2. end of the day chelsea only have hilario or turnbull who aint as good as foster (please bare in mind i dont rate foster at all) arsenal only have fabianski and liverpool cavalieri so a number 2 goalkeeper does not have to be a world class goalkeeper...we already have one of those in gomes!
stuboi10
Sorry Scottspur, I'm at university, I obviously can't spell because Microsoft Word usually corrects them for me :( haha
bernio3000
@TornadoYid - It's hard to believe, but I'm actually a 'happy go lucky' type, until, of course, Spurs come into the equation. Like you lot, I'm a complete Spurs nut (some on here would omit the 'Spurs'). Take the insults with a pinch of salt; I'm sure you do already. I actually find a little internet 'rage' therapeutic and an outlet for the perpetual frustration of the last 25 years which is Tottenham Hotspur. Not to mention that it makes for a thoroughly more entertaining read. I want the best, but I've got a horrible gut feeling of déjá vu that like too many managers before, the twitchy one isn't going to deliver. As for my favourite thing about Spurs; it would have to be walking up into the Park Lane with a belly full of invective ready to unleash on Jenas. ;-)
Scottspur
i'd rather have a can of Fosters in goal.
jinkin jimmy dimmock
This would be a panick buy imo. We will need someone as CC will not be back this season and he may well not be the same next season. However, Foster willnot be happy at no 2 and tbh it's a lot of money to pay for him to sit the bench. I like Hart but no chance of getting him and young schiemchal (can't spell his name). It's a difficult one for Harry becuase we either need a promising youngster that can come in and do a job instantly if Gomes gets injured or a older keeper that can do the same and keep the boat steady! Alnwick isn't good enough, Button lacks experience and is too young so we do need cover quick but not a panick over priced buy please.
loz
Gomes makes some great saves, usually out of chances created through his own poor distribution and inability to command the defence - a couple of further Coco the Clown moments and we need a solid reliable keeper. Gomes is a YouTube keeper with average basic skills when it comes to crosses, distribution and positioning.
kernowboy71
@Scott - In what way did you claim that he had done a good job? you started by listing players he's bought and claiming that the buys were mistakes / "disasters".
Joshtottenham
Scott, you are (;p) banged to rights so you start to focus on spelling mistakes! tut tut. Its a silly "del boy" stereo type that Harry only deals in "old bangers". He brings in the best players that he can attract to the club he is at. I mean ask a Pompey fan if they liked the players he brought in. I wouldn't discribe Muntari or Diarra or Johnson as "old bangers".
MJBSpur
Josh - If this sole thread is the sum total of everything I've ever said or written, then you'd be right in questioning my reference of praise for Redknapp. In short, it was on a previous thread. So you're wrong.
Scottspur
Yeah but Scott it's a bit too much to ask to expect someone to trawl through your other posts on previous threads. On this thread all you've done is basically said he's done a good job if all you wanted was to survive relegation. You think all his signings are rubbish apart from Palacios which is slightly unfair. Josh is right. You can talk about other threads but they either don't exist or they completely contradict what you're saying now.
bernio3000
"my favourite thing about Spurs; it would have to be walking up into the Park Lane with a belly full of invective ready to unleash on Jenas. ;-)" And that sums up the sort of supporter you are.
bernio3000
MJBSpur - Back for more eh? I'll give you Muntari and Diarra. Diarra would have been a great buy for us. Only goes to highlight what a shambles our transfer policy has been in recent years. You're probably right concerning Redknapp, but as it's you, I shan't give you the benefit of the doubt. The wage structure is a major factor in determining who we can bring on board in terms of established and proven 'names', but this shouldn't disguise our recent managers' (or the scouting system's) failure to unearth gems of their own. You can count on the fingers of, err, well, one finger the amount of players (and I'm talking good players) we've successfully brought through the academy in over 10 years. The current crop on loan look promising, but if you read the OS, you'd be forgiven for thinking that they're about to dominate world football. This has been happening for too long now, yet none of them ever seem to make it at the top level. I'm not blaming Reddknapp for the years of mismanagement, of course not, but these managers are earning a fortune for a reason. We can't keep using the excuse that Tottenham aren't big enough or don't pay enough to play good players.
Scottspur
Bernio3000 - If you took two, probably all three, noughts off your user name, I think it would reveal a quite accurate reading of your IQ; It was joke you fool. Although I will admit the day Jenas leaves Spurs will indeed be a verry happy one.
Scottspur
Scott, so now you're veering way off topic. You'll give me Muntari and Diarra because I'm right and you can give me Johnson too considering he is now at a "top 4" club and an England regular. This "discussion" was about you moaning that Redknapp hasn't bought us the right players, not about past managers or even the clubs policy. I don't dissagree that past managers have bought poorly and created unbalaced sides and thats why I am so pleased to see that Harry is getting those things right and you should be too.
MJBSpur
Neither of us will know one way or the other about Redknapp's future signings until he actually signs them. Unfortunately, those signings he made that you gleefully point out were made at another club. Again, I'm only going on the signings he has made for us, and my original 'beef' was with you classing them as all being 'spot on'.
Scottspur
Now you look to the right MJBSpur, to the poll on the summer signings. See it? Not exactly the stuff dreams are made of eh?
Scottspur
Wow thats nearly 40 million worth of players! Kranj was a bargain and it makes it look a little better. I would of preferred to spent it on 2 top class player in CM and Striker and upped the wages which will always hold us back form breaking that top 4. Muntari is ***** by the way and Diarra is good.
cockeril
You realise Scott that only spastics pretending to be clever start questioning other people's intelligence...
bernio3000
bernio3000 - I could point out the irony of your last comment, but it would be completely wasted on you.
Scottspur
@cockeril - You can add Keane to that list from the previous window and take that figure to above £50m!
Scottspur
Yes I understand the irony and I'm a self confessed retard, however I'm not the one using snide remarks as a defense mechanism because I'm losing an argument. You're on the back foot and nobody's agreeing with you so you decide to insult people. Clever boy.
bernio3000
Thanks Bernio you're spot on there mate. Scott, Those players that I "Gleefully mentioned" where to highlight Harry's ability in the transfer market and completely relevent in further proving how wrong you are. I'm assuming that you think you would have made better signings had you been in charge and we'd now be 3rd? 2nd? Name one of Harry's signings that has flopped and not improved the team.

MJBSpur
'Defence mechanism'. That's actually pretty good for you - I'm impressed, well done. It's a pity that your knowledge of psychology is only on par with that of a third rate evening class designed for those with special needs. Otherwise we could have a sensible debate.
Scottspur
Chimbonda thats one
cockeril
@MJBSpur - Keane is actually detrimental to the team right now, but I'll agree that most of the signings have improved the squad, but not to the degree that will be required to compete for 4th come the end of the season. Throw £50M at a chimpanzee (perhaps even Bernio3000), point them in the direction of a transfer list, and there's a good chance it'll improve the squad. Rather than keep buying average players in bulk each window, why not buy two of genuine quality. We've currently got over £30M (or was) tied up in two players sitting on the bench week on week, who can't get a game even when their respective no.1s are out injured. That money could obviously have gone on attracting a better quality of player and the higher salaries that come with them.
Scottspur
Cockeril, Chimbonda didn't flop he was purely bought as cover and then sold -for the same money he was bought at - once the need was gone. He served the purpose that he was bought for. This was already covered so try reading the rest of the posts before chipping in half cocked.
MJBSpur
Scott that last comment was nothing short of moronic and clearly displays your lack of knowledge when it comes to the intricacies of the transfer market. Who are these two players of "genuine quality" you think Harry should have bought? Harry tried and failed in signing players of the next level because of our lack or European footbal and restrictions on wage bills, neither of which were down to him. He's worked perfectly within his means and bought in players that have balanced and strengthened the squad in the areas that needed it and the current league table is testament to that. I assume the "£30M (or was) tied up in two players sitting on the bench week on week" is referring to Pav and Crouch? Pav has been very poor and again was not a player Harry had any hand in signing and Crouch was the neccassary 3rd striker and provides something different to the other two. All possitions need cover and options which means of course there will be quality sitting on the bench at times as with any top club. The more you try to pretend you have any sort of valid argument the more of an idiot you sound. Give it up, no one agrees with you.
MJBSpur
He played 3 games and we lost half a million pounds, Thats a flop to me but your standards are a lot lower as we all know. MJB must jabber bull s eet;)

Cock, "as we all know"?? LOL You're on your own mate, stop trying to make it sound like anyone ever agrees with you. We were potentially in a very bad possition with our back line at the time and Chimbonda was a neccessity to cover it. No one could predict how often he would actually be needed but I know I'd rather lose a very small sum in (todays market) than risk getting no one in and being caught seriously short when we were in a relegation battle. He could have played no games and still have served the purpose that he was brought for. We did't lose millions we lost 500k, which is more than exceptable in the circumstances.
MJBSpur
I love being hated Jibberish..thanks! makes my day, I don`t come on here to boost my ego . You taking sheet again. harry bought back the oldens because he saw what Jol did with them it was his safest option. But Chimbo flopped on his return the stats back that up.
cockeril
Funny you should mention Scott as I have a Psychology A-Level, but the subject bored me because it was so full of self righteous c ** ts like yourself who genuinely cannot admit they're wrong and believe everything they say is completely priceless.
bernio3000
MJBSpur - For the last time on this subject, as it's obvious I'm in the company of a halfwit and would have greater fortune in eliciting an argument in English from Pavlyuchenko, the signings you are oh so happy with are just not up to scratch. You can jump up and down pointing (not unlike one of Harry's 'spot on' signings) at the league table all day long; it won't wash with me. The old adage that the league table doesn't lie is, unfortunately, only true come the end of the season. If by the end of the season, we're still 4th without the addition of genuine quality players in January, I will unreservedly bow down to your superior knowledge. I'm simply stating that Redknapp needs to up his game transfer wise for us to finish 4th.
Scottspur
How exactly can you flop without playing? He didn't play because he was a last minute buy as COVER. Chimbonda was nothing more than a glorified loan. You have a very short memory Cock. Jol never played Keane and Defoe together and it was known that he didn't think they could play together. If Harry was "copying" Jol (and I can't believe I'm even entertaining such a stupid conscept) why would he buy both.......and then so successfully play them together?? Right I'm done with this topic, there are plenty more new treads for you to go and be negative on, assuming you haven't already.
MJBSpur
'it's obvious I'm in the company of a halfwit'. Make that 'halfwits'; step forward and take a bow, the one and only (praise the Lord) Bernio3000.
Scottspur
Scott, Resorting to insults again lol and I'm the halfwit? No one has come on here and agreed with you, why doesn't that tell you something. Again you're trying to squirm and twist your argument. I fully expect Harry to make more quality signings in January as he is now in the possition to do so - as I already stated earlier. This all stems from me saying I have every confidence that Harry will make the right signings to take this club forward as he has already been doing so. You argued that almost all of his signings so far bar Wilson have been poor or flops dispite later admitting that they had all improved the squad bar chimbonda. You've been going round in circles with no valid point to make and contradicting yourself along the way. Its been entertaining. thanks ;-)
MJBSpur
So much hate.....let it all out Scottspur. Its okay, no-one thinks that you're a pathetic little child!
bernio3000
;-)
Scottspur
LOL You going to add jljyid, and haverhill spurs to that list? That maks 3 halfwits that agreed with me. How many agreed with you again......?
MJBSpur
He can't hear you MJB, he's so far up his own arse he wears himself as a hat :)
bernio3000
MJBSpur Don't try to drag others down to your's, and especially bernio's, level of stupidity - it's not fair on them;-)
Scottspur
Ok Jol would not play Keane and Defoe are you sure? We had Berba as well. Defoe or Berba???? No contest! Pav or Berna??? no contest. Crouch or Berba??? Berba. No lets play Defoe and Keane and play Keane LW even though he has bought a LW in Kranj. Why the insults am I getting to you and deep down you know you are wrong. Typical big mouth Yankee doodle!
cockeril
"Scott, Resorting to insults again lol and I'm the halfwit? No one has come on here and agreed with you, why doesn't that tell you something. Again you're trying to squirm and twist your argument" You really are stupid MJB and you don`t like my Cock as much as you mother does as she is the only one I can turn to as everyone hates me.....there, there`s an insult!
cockeril
lol Bernio. :)
MJBSpur
Shhh Cock, bigger boys are having a grown up discussion. Stop interrupting. I mean "your mumma" insults? Really? Its just laughable.
MJBSpur
Wait! Please don't tell me you're an American MJB. If so, you needn't argue your, weaker than a Jenas tackle, case further. It's not really your fault at all is it? I understand.
Scottspur
Nope. No idea what "Yankee Doodle" means, I chose to ignore it as just more nonsence from Cockeril. Good to know you were willing to throw some racial (wrong wording I think but you get my meaning) taunts into the mix givent the chance though. Right I'm bored of this now. When your only backup is that numpty i really would suggest you quite while you're behind cause its only getting worse. I'm embarrassed for you.
MJBSpur
*my poor spelling is evidence of how tired I am of you crap*
MJBSpur
*my poor spelling is evidence of how tired I am of you're crap*
MJBSpur
Wrong on both accounts. Do you want a third attempt? It's probably better to 'quite' whilst you're so far ahead ;-)
Scottspur
Lol pretty annoying that I got that wrong twice. Oh well, at least you can leave here today knowing you're the best speller. You have to take what small victories you can. No shame in that.
MJBSpur
OK MJBSpur, we'll leave it that. It's been fun. I'll meet you again on another thread where we can go at it again. Until then.
Scottspur
Good points MJB right on the money.
