A Villa Fan Showing No Fear (Interview)

An interview with JP Fear from Vital Villa. (Our interview on Vital Villa: An Interview With A Spurs Fan)

Firstly, are you quaking in your claret and blue slippers after our demolition of Wigan last week or do you take it as a freak result and expect us to shoot ourselves in the foot as usual?

No, not at all, we demolished Bolton 5-1 in our last home game and have Liverpool and Chelsea scalps so far this season, I think we are more than a match for any team who visit Villa Park as long as our right team turns up - much like you guys, we seem to have the ability to raise our game to great end one match then stroll around and blow it the next!

I really think this match is too close to call to be honest, both teams on their day play good attacking football so this will probably end up a 0-0 bore!!!!!!!

Is it my imagination or are Villa looking better at home this season?

Strange, the other season we couldn't get a home win for love nor money and were great away from home, this season it is our home form that is best. Why the hell can't they just do it home and away! lol

Our first home game was truly woeful, we literally didn't turn up, the fans were muted, the bench was silent, MON was like a statue (if you know MON, he is never usually still) and the players were somewhere else. It was embarrassing, anger inducing and unexplainable. Then we visited Anfield away for a thrashing ... click, all went right and all of a sudden it wasn't all doom and gloom.

Since the first game, we've gone unbeaten at Villa Park, some of the displays haven't been that convincing but hey, if you can win (or in the case of Man City game draw) whilst not playing that well, it isn't a bad habit to pick up really is it? Even away we are picking up points apart from a disappointing display at Blackburn.

I have to say that I think Martin O`Neil bought very astutely in the summer, giving you greater depth as a squad, but is this enough to take you forward as other rivals like ourselves have also improved?

Who knows? Seriously the league seems to be so unpredictable. Personally I don't think we have the right strike force, I think John Carew on his day is world class but his days are 1 in 10. When he is 'on' he is unplayable, so I can't - and I'm not alone as MON has mentioned it several times - understand why in so many games he doesn't turn up. Hopefully tomorrow he'll be there with his shooting boots on. Gabby Agbonlahor is promising, he has muscled up, shown a good attitude and is putting in the effort this season (after a very poor run in to the campaign last season) and then we have the enigma of Emile Heskey.

For me Darren Bent would have been perfect but MON is the boss not me... thank goodness!

The defence looks solid now, although we do have James Collins injured which is a shame as he has been the surprise package this season, he really does look like a rock. Think he is doubtful for tomorrow. Warnock is a great signing and we are just starting to see the introduction of Stewart Downing who I believe might make a home debut tomorrow. If he clicks right and the team shifting around to fit him in works, it could be an interesting season. As said, apart from a few noticeable games like Chelsea, we have laboured more than dazzled so far, when a few of our younger players like Ashley Young hit their stride and a run of form, it could be happy days!

After losing Martin Laursen last season, how impressed have you been in the two new boys at the back (Dunne & Collins). I assume you have been very pleased with what were perhaps seen as un-ambitious signings, particularly James Collins, who has looked fantastic?

Ah, wish I'd read down before speaking about him in the last question! I knew nothing about Collins before he came and he's been great. As for Richard Dunne, he's been solid at the back and a threat up front so all is good. Warnock has also slotted in nicely.

It was nice to see England`s No9 at last get on the score-sheet at Burnley. Would you take him to the World Cup for his ability to link well with Rooney and be a bit of muscle or do we need more?

I wouldn't no. Not unless he gets at least 10 for Villa and sets up at least 10 goals for us. He has set one up (v Wolves - and put in more work in 15 mins than Carew in the 75 mins before) and only scored one (last game away to Burnley). He needs to impose himself more to deserve his place in the Villa team let alone the England squad. I am one of the Villa fans who don't care he played for Blues, I WANT him to succeed, but he has to want it, show some aggression and start to get stuck in.

As things stand, I'd take Carlton Cole or Peter Crouch as the big man. Trouble with Crouchie is in the International scene the refs blow up for everything he does (unfairly in most cases) whereas in the PL his ungainly style works and doesn't get penalised all the time.

Talking of Villa strikers. I see Gabby Agbonlahor has again started the season well, but does he have the staying power to maintain this form all season and perhaps stake his own claim for a WC place?

He has a chance. Remember he is only 23 so maybe it is the world cup after this one that he will feature more prominently but if he can keep his motivation up and carry on the season as he has started, he must be in with a shout as an option from the bench. Maybe he will need another option to have an injury to guarantee his place but then Capello does seem to like Villa and our players.

The one shoe in is James Milner I think.

I understand this could be the first start for the massively under-rated Stewart Downing, a player so often linked with Spurs. Were you pleased with his signing and where do you see his role in the side, long term?

Yes, loved the signing, especially the pictures of him going to Bodymoor for his medical on crutches (although as explained to me by someone at Villa, the medicals aren't about running around, more the heart rates etc!). Think he'll slot in nicely. I'm really interested to see how he is deployed to be honest. MON has hinted that Downing could give Barry a run for his money in the centre for England but also that James Milner might have a central role for us so who will do what is a mystery. I'd think Downing on the left, Young on the right and Milner in the centre but many have tried to second guess MON before and failed, so if he turns up in goal, I'll not be that shocked!

After missing out on your dream of qualifying for the Champions league last season, can you do it this time and what do you make of the prospects of your main rivals for what I guess will be a fight for the final spot, behind Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal?

Such a shame, we really did blow it last year, it was there for the taking, much like you guys the season before (think it was the season before anyway?) Man City will throw money at it, nice to see at the moment it isn't clicking all their way. Obviously Spurs are similar to Villa as well, another club big enough to be in the top four but one that also never does quite do it. What annoys me now is that we all talk about 4th as success, it used to be about winning the league. I hate the Champions League and what it has done to the Premiership, the four who were in there have made more and more money and that has put them over and above the rest. It isn't as it was and football is worse off because of it. When we won (oh here we go!) the European Cup, you had to be champions of your league. I'd rather, if we have to have multiple teams from each league, see a place go to the FA Cup and League Cup winners, Champions and maybe runners up. At least it would have 3 out of 4 teams in the CL as champions?

Sorry, what was the question!? Oh yes, well, main rivals are Spurs and Man City. Everton would usually be up there as well but they are having a horrible time of it and look like they might struggle this season. I guess Sunderland aren't totally out of the equation either although that would be more of a shock.

Do Villa really hate Spurs or is it just banter? Be honest, I can take it...

I've not got that much space in my head or heart for hate these days to be honest. I do think (on both sides) some do the banter well and others take things too personally. I would say that some (SOME) of the Spurs visitors we've had on Vital Villa are a bit too arrogant and think themselves at a far far bigger club. For me, unless we win the league, I don't really care for comparisons on the size of clubs. I think Spurs, Villa, Everton (and I would have said Newcastle before last season) all have a big club to support and all have the chance of breaking the top four and winning things, who will and who won't remains to be seen.

Got to say most who have joined in on the forum thread Villa v Spurs (and the lets all laugh at Spurs in open terrace) have been good fun, have given and taken and have the right attitude. End of the day, who cares, we all love our teams and that is the be-all and end-all for us!

And you know I love you OxfordSpur!

Which of both squads players will be linked with moves between our clubs in January, there has to be a few?

Nigel Hokey-Cokey for Jermaine Jenas. I think that is the most obvious link. I'd take that to be honest, I think Jenas is a marmite player for you lot and NRC hasn't ever really cemented a place in our team and after playing well in our 5-1 v Bolton was dropped for Petrov to return from suspension, so he'll want out and I hear it is out and back to London he is most interested in. I guess the Bentley rumour will return but I can't see there being a place for him at Villa now.

If you combined the two squads together, what would be the best eleven?

Great question

Brad Friedel. Getting a bit long in the tooth now but Gomez seems unpredictable?

Dunne, Collins and Woodgate fighting it out for the centre back roles. Obviously Woodgate wouldn't be fit very often. Ledley was a great but injury seems to have ruined that and Dawson seems to have too many lapses?

Warnock at left-back (Gareth Bale as back up!), Luke Young at right-back. I don't think Hutton has settled? Don't know enough about Kyle Naughton and whether he would be pushing for a place to be fair?

An in form Aaron Lennon on the right, Ashley Young on the left, Milner in the centre with Tom Huddlestone/Jermain Jenas. Stiliyan Petrov isn't far out of that equation either although your two seem to get forward and attack / shoot more? Throw in Robbie Keane in the hole behind the strikers every now and then as well.

Could Jermain Defoe and Gabby play together? Maybe, maybe not. Would go for Defoe at the moment as he is the finished item. Crouch of John Carew? Well, I think they'd be swapped about, Crouch always gives 100% but John Carew's 100% (when he can be arsed) is better, he is world class on his day.

What is your prediction for this weekend`s game and who will be your key men we have to worry about?

I'd worry about Carew if he is up for it and this sort of game he should be. I'd also watch out for the hard work from James Milner. Hopefully Downing will make a splendid debut!

Really is too close to call this, I'll go for a 3-2 to Villa but quite honestly, really have no idea at all!

Liked that question about the teams merging and what would be the starting 11, that has to get the debate going I'd say!?
The Fear
My Merged Starting 11 would be! Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, King, BAE, Modric, Palacios, Kranjcar, Lennon, Defoe, Keane
GrinsteadYid
good piece oxford and the fear. brad and ashley thats it from your team if we are talking first eleven. hmm maybe not modders is different class compared to ashley (who i do rate). i suppose i would have alot of your guys as squad players
jljyid
Yeah, totally agree. Fantastic question and really does make you think.
JayVFC
My starting 11 would be Gomes (friedel is good but to me Gomes is one of thebest shot stoppers in the world)-Corluka-King-Dunne-Ekkoto (he is far better than Bale or Warnock)Lennon- Palacios-Modric-Young-Carew-Defoe.
Yid_from_India
This game is all about which team is really up for it...for once away from home we have to show that we want it badly right from the start..
spursex
his merged 11 is so so bad i can't stop laughing at it.how can he merge the best 11 when he doesn't even know our best 11.no palacios no modric and he doesn't even mention corluka.i like ashley young but he is just a good EPL player while modric is a world class player.king is better then all their CB's and he can't even train.also downing is not under rated he is actually overrated.most shots at goal last year in the EPL but scored a massive 0 goals proves my point.if that was a foreigner he would be named the biggest flop ever to grace the EPL. hopefully he doesn't score the winner for them now.lol
dwight schrute
YID from India, I like that 11. Good picks. Think our Villa friend was a bit bias in one or two of his choices - Young instead of Charlie! Warnock instead of BAE! Huddlestone/Jenas before considering Wilson! No Modric! - but then again they'd probably say the same of us! lol The only players from Villa I would take as starters for us would be A Young, Milner and Dunne and the first two would be either or for LM. Thats not to say I don't think they have players of equal quality to us in other areas as well. Its going to be a very tight game on Saturday as I think Villa are probably the closest to us in terms of overall front 11 ability......We're slightly better though ;-D lol
MJBSpur
Merged 11 - Gomes, Corluka, King, Woody, Warnock, Lennon, Modric, Milner, Young, Defoe and Carew. Subs Freidal, Palacios, Petrov, Gabby, Crouch.
RODSPURS
MJB it's not that his choices are poor (which they are for me lol) but he thinks that either hutton or naughton are our starting RB's and he doesn't even mention modric or palacios. i mean come on.
dwight schrute
modric is the best player in either team, he would be the first name on the team sheet. id go friedel, young, king, woodgate, assou ekotto, lennon, milner, modric, young, defoe, carew. agbonlahor as a super sub, that kind of pace coming off the bench is always scary, which is why england should use it at the world cup. imagine bringing on someone like that in extra-time when everyones knackered? could be our secret weapon...
mikethfc
a team for a one off cupgames, with no injuries or problems all on top form: Gomez, Charlie King Woodgate Warnock Lennon Modric Sarge Young Defore Keane. If you had to pick a first team for a whole season Freidel Young Bassong Dunne Warnock Lennon Modric Sarge Milner Defoe Keane: Crocuh gabby king young petrov on bench
BassMentosCornetto
Wow...merged 11 is a tough one! Freidel is mr.consistency and Gomes is great, but has made some big errors, so I'd go Brad in goal. Corluka would be a shoe in, but with Woodgate/King's fitness issues that would be difficult, and I've heard many good things about BAE but not seen enough myself. Warnock and Luke Young are both solid fullbacks too. Overall I'd probably say Corluka, Collins, Woodgate, Warnock at the back. In midfield there are a lot of difficult decisions! I'd definitely have Palacios providing the muscle, and Modric on the left. AY is great but hasn't played to his potential this season so far. Milner would start in the middle alongside palacios and I'd have Lennon on the right. With Downing, AY, Jenas, Huddlestone etc etc in reserve that wouldn't be half bad! Up front I think I'd go with two of Crouch, Defoe, Gabby and JC. JC is one of the best strikers I've ever seen when he shows up, but as previously stated, it doesn't happen with enough consistency. Not a lot to pick between the others...Gabby is a truely athletic threat, but lacks the finesse and technique of Defoe...take your pick!
Villa4Europe
The starting lineups are so closely matched the merged 11's makeup is almost entirely dependent on personal bias...but objectively speaking mine would be Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, Bassong, BAE, Lennon, Palacios, Huddlestone, Modric, Crouch and Defoe ;)
Phartman87
Why was David Pleat sitting next to and talking to Martin O'Neil right through the 9-1 game? Was he trying to explain the unexplainable? Like it was our width, depth, height and speed?????????
ronwol
How any of you can choose your defenders when we have pretty much the best defensive record (behind Man u & Chelski) i have no idea !!! you see in jons pice where he mentioned arrogant Spurs fansm the posts above pretty much back that statement up.....why do most of you have a chip on your shoulder ???i have never understood !!.....Anyway my team, trying not to be bias, although obviously ihave seen the Villa players more then the Spurs one........Gomes (Just, as either keeper is pretty damn good), Young (Corluka is ok, just seems slow to me? if Naughton lives upto the hype then he would probably be better than both) Collins (on the little we have seen the lad is quality, much better than Dunne IMO) King (A fit Ledley is better then all of them I agree, however he wasnt better than Laursen, they dont come around often) Warnock (I honestly think Assou Ekkotu(sp?) is crap, from what i have seen, you guys seem torate him though so i willwatch him more closely on Saturday) Lennon (on form he is a handful, and he seems to be learning to cross now) Milner (No one works harder, does what Palacios does but has a bit of creativity as well, although i do rate the man from Equador) Modric (What our midfield lacks...simple as) Young (Imagine an inform lennon and Young on either wing !!! could any team handle that ??) Defoe (Just ahead of Gabs as his finishing is better) Carew (on his day, which sadly isnt often enough he really is a world class player, if he played like that all the time he would be at a bigger club)........so that Team is Gomez, Young, Collins, King, Warnock, Lennon, Milner, Modric, Young, Defoe, Carew........Think thats a pretty handy team myself
Bearvill
Friedel, Corluka, King, woodgate, Warnock, Lennon, Palacious, Modric, Milner, Agbongolor, Defoe. This 11 gives composure in defence. Width, muscle, pace and creativity in midfield & 2 forwards who between them combine finishing and defensive duties almost equally. Would of found a place for Barry if he was still with ya, but ????
Aussie'spur
bearvil. the difference is that our defence is always changing due to injury therfore find it hard to build a real understanding in the partnerships. ledders (if fit) is better than any defenders you have and to be honest better than most teams in the PL have thats why we chose our defenders
jljyid
Bearvill, i can honestly tell you that Assou Ekkoto is anything but crap. He has made sure that Gareth Bale does not get a look in. He is very strong, good technically and has lots of pace. he was voted the club's most improved player last season and he is one of the first name on the team sheet these days. It is also very apparent that you dont know anything about Palacios. He is very very Skilfull as well. he is technically fantastic. He not only breaks down opposition attacks but often starts our own.
Yid_from_India
We are Villa's slightly more glamerous twin. This will be like Venus vs Serena Williams. Absolutely far too close to call this one. Oh, and Yid from India. Assou Ekotto is average. And the jury is still out on Palacios aswell. Poor distribution when i saw him recently.
jinkin jimmy dimmock
i would not swap any of our starting 11 for a villa player. i'd swap jenas for milner, and pav for carew. young had 12months of good football. thats all it was, a freak 12 months
pachna_spurs
way to early to bring back modric. especially as the kran and the team are on fire! the pace of such a big game would surely be to much for modric to handle. no rush to bring the little skill boy back!
geoff stern
Bearvill, sounds like you're the only one on here with a chip on your shoulder mate. Everyone else is having a bit of fun with this. Lighten up! As for your comment about picking defenders this is a hypatheticle-in-an-ideal-world type of question meaning we're ignoring injury problems etc in which case King and Woodgate are the best 2 CBs of the bunch and both would be on the plane to SA if it weren't for their injury problems. There's no arrogance in that its a fairly valid opinion. Villa's defensive record is better than ours because a) MON players counter attacking football where as we play a more attacking and open game b) we've hardly played the same 2 CBs in consecutive games all season where as last season we had the best defensive record in the league at home.
MJBSpur
I loved the 11 squad question that was brilliant. Mine would be this: Gomes, Corluka, Woody, King, BAE, Lennon, Palacios, Kranjcar, Modric, Defoe, Keane.
TornadoYid
here here mjb.
jljyid
the players i really like at villa are ashley young and james milner but in there positions we have better but as i said i would definatley have them in our squad like a shot
jljyid
Not sure there will be any winners in a debate about who's got the better squad, but guys can i just say all the best for the season excpet the villa games - I really like spurs, and if we're not there in 4th at the end of the season, i badly want it to be you guys! Cant stand any of the top-4, and hate city too now, so GL!
Ericols_Son
jinkin jimmy dimmock, "And the jury is still out on Palacios aswell"! I'm guessing "when you saw him recently" wasn't against Wigan then?? Last season he was full of tackles but his ability on the ball and distrabution was iffy at times, this season he is looking more and more skillful on the ball and his distrabution has become better and better. And Assou Ekotto is class but unfortunately he will never win some people over no matter how well he preforms. He can have 3 or 4 great games go ignored by his doubters and then have one iffy moment in a game and people are saying how crap he is.
MJBSpur
That was my starting 11 pick from both villa and spurs squads :-)
TornadoYid
I love the fact that there are so many different answers from everyone. Are we including the injury prone players, or just taking everyone at their best? Milner has to be in there somewhere, as does Modric. The strikers are the hardest Defoe is a shoe in, but who plays with him is a difficult one. If we are talking about someone at their best then Carew, but for consistency and pace I'd go with Gabby. I think he'd work well with Jermaine.
HeathfieldRoad1874
what abount Kranjar? Mugs - he is world class and then some
bullers
thanks ericols. good luck to you guys too aprt from the spurs games
jljyid
If Im being honest then Milner would have to be in my team. I would stick milner out on the left and bring modric into the centre with palacios. That would mean a midfield of Lennon, Modric, Palacios, Milner!!! Erm...YES PLEASE!
TornadoYid
If Im being honest then Milner would have to be in my team. I would stick milner out on the left and bring modric into the centre with palacios. That would mean a midfield of Lennon, Modric, Palacios, Milner!!! Erm...YES PLEASE!
TornadoYid
hah..MJB....if you look at my team I have chosen King and even said he is the best of the bunch....just look at the posts above mine, most of them say they would have the Spurs 11....which just screams arrogance to me.....but being Londoners I suppose its in your nature ; ).......Anyway I picked my team and i think it is a balanced team without much bias....the only Bias is Young over Corluka as I have said on the Vital Villa site they are much of muchness....both solid, slightly slow defensively with a suprisingly above average attacking play that people dont expect........and besides not all Spurs fans are arrogant, just the majority.....and that is from experiance of working in London for a few years !!!
Bearvill
Bearvill the same way that Villa fans can choose their strikers despite Spurs having one of the best scoring records in the league. Its opinion you nonce.
bernio3000
Bernio - if you follow that logic then it could be Defoe and Gabby as the the strikers, being the 2 top scorers out of all our strikers. Defoe appears in most teams here, and are you saying you'd rather have Keane than Gabby?
HeathfieldRoad1874
Thanks for calling me a peado.....nice to see you are acting to type....Gabby and Defoe couldnt play togethor so its a choice between Carew and Crouch, now this is a dilema as on his day carew is a mile better then Crouchie but that day is say 1 in 4, whereas Crouch is much more consistant so its wether you want consistancy or that one game where the striker will win the game single handed.......Its a good debate mind, but as i am apparently a nonce maybe i should be arrested
Bearvill
Bearvill - Spurs fans favour spurs players and villa fans favour villa players. Is that really so hard to understand? The teams are so close as Ericols_Son said this debate will have no winners, but to call people arrogant or whatever becasue they don't agree with your point of view makes your good self look like the arogant one
Phartman87
we arent arrogant bearvill we just love our club and some times see it and our players through lilly white tinted specs. bit harsh bernio ''nonce''?. come on guys we are both proper sets of fans (not plastic fantastic like the bridge brigade or algerian and nigerian immigrants like le arse fans)lets just enjoy the debate
jljyid
Bearvill, everyone that chose 11 Spurs players did so tongue in cheek. Like I said, Lighten up and grow a sense of humour. You're the only one coming off as being arogant and having a massive "I hate spurs fans" chip on your shoulder.
MJBSpur
Im not calling you all arrogant because you dont agree with me,....I couldnt care less if you agree with me or not, I tried to pick my team with no bias and also explained all my decisions, not sure how that can be arrogance, just good messaging.....I was just saying that in general Spurs fans are arrogant and have a chip on their shoulder IMO and in quite alot of rival fans opinions as well.......not all of you, but the majority i have met have a'we are Spurs, so we are better than everyone as we 'play the Spurs Way' attitude'.......Ill leave you all now as i know the truth hurts ; )...........And i look forward to the game on Saturday as it should be a good one, and as long as one of us breaks the Top 4 monopoly it can only be good for the game...I just hope its us : )
Bearvill
Bearvill, you really don't know your facts do you. Granted Villa have a better defensive record this season, but consider; Gomes was injured for 6-7 games, woodgate has played 3 games this season, king is in and out of the side, Dawson has played 5ish games, Bassong has been injured recently. Due to these injuries the back line and gk have had no consistancy. Woodgate has been sorely missed especially. I think we will start getting more clean sheets now he's back from injury.
Tsunami
I admit i dont know as much about Spurs as Villa......but we have had our injury problems too in defence, as well as playing a Centre back (Cuellar) at right back and having to play the god awful nicky Shorey at Left Back a couple of games.....I used the facts to hand which are that Vills defensive record is better than Spurs.....simples.... and besides i let you have the keeper and put King in there ; )........you lot are making me chuckle, i think my team is probably one of the most unbiased on here and i am getting slated for it ......admittedly the arrogant Spurs fan bit may have added to that as well ; ) so i apologise for ruffling your feathers abit and will be happy to debate the team with you all.....im interested to see Assou Ekkotu (sp?) as i honestly have never thought him any good but you guys rate him so i must be missing something
Bearvill
we do have the attitude we are and should be better than anyone else attitude and why not? if you dont strive to be the best and believe in that goal what is the point you might aswell just give up. if you dont think like this you are a very strange fan indeed especially a fan of a club like villa who like us should have this attitude you have the fan base like us you have good players like us you have a good manager like us and a good chairman like us. believe in your club we do if thats considered arrogant have a word with yourself son and while your at it have alook at the vital arsenall and vital chelsea sites and look for the chelski comments on other teams sites then come back here and tell us we are arrogant
jljyid
The team wasn't the problem it's the fact you were compelled to insult us before you even mentioned the team. BAE has been a revolation since he came back from injury solid in defence, very good going forward and bags of energy. From our perspective the only Villa player who would be a major improvement is Milner in CM with Palacios. Having said that there are no Villa players that would majorly weaken us either which is why there is so much difference depending on which team you support. Mine would be Gomes/Friedel, Corluka/Young, King, Woodgate, Warnock, Lennon, Palacios, Milner, Modric, Defoe, Crouch/Carew
Phartman87
one more thing go to wigans site and ask worbo what he thinks about the guys on here i doubt hes got a bad word for any of us, and look what happened to them.
jljyid
Ahhhh but jljyid Arsenal and Chelsea are different beasts to us, they have something to be arrogant about and are full of those people that choose a team just becuase they are winning as they want to look trendy in front of their friends.......like I said I apologise for ruffling a few feathers, so can we debate the teams rather then me.......
Bearvill
3-1 spurs. Carew scores first from a gomes error, defoe equalizes, hudd makes it 2-1 spurs from a free kick and "Giovinnco" makes it 3-1 spurs from another free kick. Id put it on at the bookies but unfortunatley,Yes, it was a dream i had last night. Who the hell is this Giovinnco tho coz it was a right free kick lol
hudderspur
I thought that was a nickname for Dos Santos.....was wondering what they hell it meant till i read the reast of your post.....luckily that was just a dream so wont be coming true on Saturday : )
Bearvill
no there is no excuse for arrogance bearvill. my team is the spurs team simples. but thats because its so close if i was a villa fan it would probably be the same but the viila players that said i would definatley have milner and young in our squad
jljyid
If it does im playing the soddin lottery.Tell you summat, i got a shiver when i wrote "Carew scores first from a gomes error" why do i get a bad feeling lol
hudderspur
I'm following Bearvill's logic Heathfield. He was the one questioning the audacity of Spurs fans picking Woodgate or Corluka. What a crime. My team would be Gomes, Corluka, Collins, Woodgate, Warnock, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, Young, Defoe, Carew. Pretty similar to most.
bernio3000
No probs bernio. I still think Friedel is a better goalkeeper than Gomes though, despite his age. Just more consistent, less prone to error and better at dealing with crosses. It would be interesting to see this 12 months ago - there would be completely different answers from both sides.
HeathfieldRoad1874
Your not though are you, I was saying you couldnt pick the Spurs defence as a whole....which a fair few had done, because Villas defensive record is better so some players must be better than their Spurs counter parts by default.....hence a mixed defence( mine is Young/Corluka King Collins and Warnock) would be superior....although reading back my post that isnt obvious so i apologise for that......but you still called me a nonce....which is the worst crime, gramatical error or calling someone a peado....hmmmmmmm ; )
Bearvill
Bearvill dont bite down every time :) anyone who sees the fact that a fit king is top dog knows hios football. The squads are so close in some places its the easy way out to pick your own lot in the team. Overall only Milner Young Warnock and Gabby would be considered from villa in a top 11. BAE is a good player, but has been reponsible for two many crucial mistakes(bolton etc) so warnock is in, krankjar looks good but needs longer to oust a hard working milner, obviously gabby and ashley young with defoe and lennon would be sweet. Freidel is one of the best underated keepers in the league, but with gomez warming up its no comp. In the middle a fit and health woody and king would probably be one of the best partnerships in the world , pity there both crocks.(or they be at champs league clubs) petrov has nothing on palacious, and luke young ffs any mention of him in a top 11villa-spurs is deluded.
BassMentosCornetto
obviously left out modders and lennon as its no question
BassMentosCornetto
I think that Freidel is a better keeper though if Gomes keeps going the way he is then he will get there. Remember Brad was at Liverpool though most forget that and only remember when he came good at Blackburn. Lets not forget as well he always seems to have a good game against us. Also why has no one pointed out that Wilson is from Honduras not Equador?? My 11, just to add fuel to the fire Friedel - Naughton, Woodgate, King, Warnock, Lennon, Young, Palcacios, Reo-Coker, Defoe, Carew - yes a couple of wild cards in there more seriously think its hard between Young or Charlie at RB would go Charlie in centre mid not sure between Milner or Petrov so I'll go Milner based on the Villa guys on here. Bearvill think your posts have been good mate, you've chucked the bait and they have biten fair play to you mate!
TamworthYid
My eleven would be Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, King, Warnock, Lennon, Wilson, Modric, Young, Defoe and Carew, but there are so many 50/50 calls that it could easily be a completely different eleven.
oxfordspur
Gomes L.Young King Collins Warnock Lennon Huddlestone Palacios Modric Carew Defoe I had to pick Modric on the left, him or Young is no contest. Ashley Young is a good Premier League player but massively overrated by some and very predictable whereas i believe Modric is genuine class. Milner hasn't got great quality imo and his crossing frustrates me. Lennon's final ball is lacking at times but his quality, and pace and ability to beat a man (something Milner rarely does) get him in on the right. I was thinking of putting Milner in the middle for his workrate alongside Palacios (who i think is immense) but Palacios could do that and Huddlestone is the best passer of a ball in either squad and can do something none of our midfielders can, pass the ball forwards and play a killer pass. Carew and Defoe would be excellent (when Carew turned up). Gabby is just a bit too thick to read his flick ons half the time whereas Defoe is more natural and would score a bagful feeding off him.
blackcountry villa
blackcountry villa - I've always thought Gabby looked thick, glad I'm not alone!!
TamworthYid
a merged 11 without Benoit and Bale ahead of him? ?????madness. Good read guys apart from the horrifying prospect of a marmite sandwich exchange ( Reo-Coker for jenarse). Looking forward to the banter when we win!
spurstop4
I'd definitely have Milner in my side if the chance arose, every time I see him he looks better, big mutha too.
spurstop4
agreed spurs top four but not in the side in the squad along with ash young. i keep saying this hoping harry is reading lol
jljyid
lol tamworth yid just goes to show you dont need a university education to earn millions mind you lee bowyer proves you dont even have to have the intelligence to put a sentance together to earn millions
jljyid
nah jl - he's too busy writing Robbie love notes
spurstop4
*clocks spurstop4 for banter when villa win tomorrow* i'll be back!
benji_starsky_avfc
Palacios is the best of both squads!
anggelo
see ya benji! wouldn't wanna be ya. As it happens got a few mates round for a bit of a sesh tomorrow so I will not be bantering until about Sun teatime!
spurstop4
Bernio and Oxfordspur - you would have A Young and not Milner?? Milner is the best midfielder out of the lot (bar lennon & modric). I bet if u ask any villa fan who they would prefer to keep if they had to get rid of one of the two they keep milner every single time - he delivers almost every time unlike A Young who has the odd spark here and there and in fairness is awesome when on his game - but that is never often enough. Anggelo ur love for Palacios is ******** outstanding I appluad you!! lol
TornadoYid
had to have a giggle at your chosen central midfielders, especially when you take our 3rd or 4th best, Palacios should have been the first one picked and then modric but the thing with modric is we dont play him in the centre
Audere est Facere
Good point Tornado, to be honest I picked Young on instinct because he's amazing right? Well this season I would definately argue that Milner has been better, so I will alter my team to Gomes, Corluka, Collins, Woodgate, Warnock, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, MILNER***, Defoe, Carew.
bernio3000
This will be a difficult game, Villa are one of the best sides outside the top four if not the best outside the top four.
loz
bearvill just read through all the posts now and i don,t think anyone else has picked up that you put palacios from equador you need to check up cos i think you will find he is from honduros anyway my 11 would be friedel but i think gomes is just getting better and better, corluka i,d like to say king but sadly not anymore so i will plump for woodgate and dawson/collins cant make up my mind on this one but i have seen more of dawson though, warnock. midfield of lennon, palacios, modric and milner, up front i would defoe go with defoe (sorry about that) and i think i would go with crouch over carew again i,ve seen more of crouch and by most of your own fans omissions dosen,t turn up enough, finally my prediction for the game spurs win a very tight 2-1
norwichspur
Oh yeah my prediction is 1-1 and if we get anything more than that I will be a very happy spur indeed!! :-)
TornadoYid
And dont forget Downing he is a shoe in to a merged 11, YEAH RIGHT
yiddownunder
Modric is the best player out of both squads. He's exactly the type of player we miss and need and should be looking to sign. Someone who can create and unlock a defence, however with O'Neill in charge we will never sign a player like him as he won't fit into his hoofball style. Modric or Ashley is a no contest, Modric is world class, Ashley Young is predictable and overrated.
Blackcountry Villa
I have chosen my merging Villa/Spurs based on the balance of a 4-4-2 formation. For me Gomez is one of the best in the world. I believe the mistakes are firly behing him with the occasional blip. I chose Gomez. Corluka is better than Young, simple as. I would go with Collins and Woodgate at back. King is not the player he was. Eketto at left back. The guy is playing very well and is less protected on the left than Corluka. I realy like Eketto. Was a hrd choice because i rate Warnock too. In midfield its simple. Lennon, Wilson, Krankjar and Modric. Up front would be Defoe and Crouch. I would have picked Carew but like the Villa fans say his is far too inconsistent. Subs would be Friedel, A Young, Milner, Huddlestone and Dawson. This is a very unbiased view. I simply think our squad is quite a bit better than Villas and should be far better equiped to challenge the top four. The doesnt mean i am confident we will beat Villa or finishish much higher than them if at all. MON is doing a great job.
asherthesmasher
ashermaster who are gomez and eketto?
TornadoYid
Only messin lol
TornadoYid
:)
asherthesmasher
oh feck me ye. phone text. i am forever getting it wrong when i use my friggen phone. hows gomes and ekotto?
asherthesmasher
haha u got kranjcar wrong too but i wont hold you to that one i never spell his name right lol! COYS!!!
TornadoYid
I totally agree wiv what he sez about the champs league, how can a fourth place team win 'champions league' and would make the cups great again!!!!
liamyid
oh and the merged 11... id go 4 gomes, bae, kings wood, charlie, lenno, krancar, the guv, modders, defeo and keane!!!!
liamyid
Liam yid - so if Pompey won the FA Cup (which they did just two years ago!) would you want them representing the premiership in the CL?? Didn't think so - that is why the top 4 have the honour of CL Football because it is based on their results/form over a whole season andthey are rightly THE best 4 sides in the country in their own right. Cups can be won with the rub of the green just ask liverpool. Cardiff reached a cup final only a few seasons back and millwall not long before that. YES it would be more exciting but it would not be good for UK football.
TornadoYid
for sure liamyid. CL is ruining the game outside the CL. I also agree that the F.A. cup winners should get a CL spot. Maybe a playoff btween 3rd 4th 5th and 6th for the last CL spot.
asherthesmasher
Tornado, do u think that Pompey or millwall would get anywhere near a cup final if there was a CL place up 4 grabs? No way mate, not a chance , i understand what ur saying but the big teams would field the strongest sides and upsets wu come few and far between!!!
liamyid
Spurs will beat Villa, 3-2.
ohwellnextseason
Thats a fair comment Liam yid but then again it is still a cup and does not really give an accurate reflection of a team's stature. In a one off game anything can happen really. Look at the CL Final with lpool v ac milan - cups can be mental!!
TornadoYid
Yeah u r rite, it will never happen but it 'would' be brilliant, brng a bit of romance back to the FA cup, i wouldnt want it in the CC, the FA cup has lost so much nowadays,it used to be up there with winning the league, nowadays its a reserve team cup cos the reward is not great enough!
liamyid
Liam I agree FA Cup should be great again - also tho - how funny wud it be to see someone like pompey or cardiff reach the CL! Haha we cud bet on how many goals would be scored against them - doubt many would score more than 9 tho ;-)
TornadoYid
your merged 11 is appalling....no palacios, modric, king and milner in the centre hahaha u aint got a clue mate! friedel, corluka, king, woodgate, assou-ekotto, lennon, palacios, huddlestone, modric, defoe, carew
stuboi10
Big gamed and I really have my fears, The biggest fear is what is Villa`s main strength? Wingers Young and Milliner are top players. What is our main weakness? Fullbacks BAE and Charlie are suspect IMO. What has Agbonlahor got? Pace What do we lack with Dawson and Woody? Pace. Add this to Villas good home record and I can see us wining and overtaking Arse to 3rd spot as they will get spanked without RVP and Arshavin who is still in tears over the World cup. Seriousley it could go either way but we have to continue the form and attack them. I would not change a single thing not even Bassong as I do not rate him that highly as some do. Woody and Dawson must defend deep and use there experience. Another underrated player is Johna Carew who like Crouchy is excellent in on the deck and is a monster to mark. If Defoe continues were he left of I can see him tearing Dunne a new Ass ho*e! Or he may even get sent of. I would take a draw right now just don`t need villa gaining on us. COYS!!!!!!!!!!
cockeril
Gomes, Young, Woody, King, Warnock, (BAE is pants!!)Lennon, Milner, Wilson, Young/Luka?? Defoe, Carew. By the way Wilson has been poor this season bar the Wigan game but he will come good.
cockeril
bs cockeril why dont you say english only you narrow minded pillock young /luka? even the villa fans know Luka is better than anyone they havegot.
Uskok
Calm down Croat Spurs. Young and Luka are superb players I really don`t know which one I would choose. If Luka can play in Cm in the EPL which well may be the case I would play him there instead of Milner. But at present he has flopped in the middle. It`s got nothing to do with nationality you paranoid Wannabe Spurs supporter.
cockeril
get *****ed coceril you useless *****er u wannabe my girlfriend u *****ing bitch
Uskok
Wow you got some serious issues. So much hatred to a fellow Spurs fan. Oh I forgot you are a Croatian supporter and we just happen to have 3 in our team. Whats up no world cup for you hahahahha!!! Well atleast Luka will be fresh next season;)
cockeril
no i just dont like tossers pretending something their not, like you, all the other fans are absolutely fine by me. Yes i know Croatia is not in the world cup thats probably a big sense of satisfaction for you go for it get your thrills.
Uskok
