Harry has to balance the books!

Daniel Levy has made his usual pre window statement that he doesn`t anticipate much movement in the transfer window and anything will have to be self funded by sales, which seems fair enough.

To be honest this comment is hardly a surprise, as it is now an expected statement from our Chairman, but it is also the sensible route to take for Tottenham Hotspur.

With a number of players looking highly likely to be sold, there is the potential for Harry to have anything between 15 - 30 million to re-invest on his own players, but I would also expect Levy and his board to back their manager, if there is a genuine need for a player, but in truth is there really any desperate need to strengthen or panic buy.

At last Spurs seem to be thinking that stability is the key to long term success, instead of knee jerk spending, which only seemed to cause more problems than it solved. Fingers crossed we have a stable management team who will be given time to build a side capable of reaching Champions League football, but also do it without buying it and putting the long term future at risk.

Irrespective of their positions, there are far too many Prem clubs in total financial disarray and would anyone be surprised to see a top flight side go into administration? We have already had a denial from Portsmouth, while West Ham and Hull are two others sailing very close to the wind, but it isn`t only the struggling clubs that are in terrible financial trouble.

We all know of the massive debts carried by the established big four, but will Man City really spend huge sums at a time when all isn`t quite its affluent self in the middle east. City may be the envy of the footballing world, but it could all so easily come crashing down, if their owners suddenly decided that spending limitless money wasn`t the best way to entertain themselves.

Fans may well be right in arguing that we need this or that player, but that has to be paid for through good housekeeping, whether by selling other players or bringing through some of our much hyped talent. If there is money available that is generated through the clubs profits, then I am sure it would be made available should the request be made and the reasons legitimate, but otherwise I think we are 100% right to watch our pennies, especially with the grand designs of a new footballing utopia...

The fans want a new starting XI too according to some of the posts after the Everton game haha :p. Seriously though you have to take everything Levy says with a pinch of salt. This time last year he said the same thing and we'd have a limited transfer budget. We then went on to spend around £50mil and brought in 5 players. He wants Champions League as much as any one of us, for personal and financial reasons, so if he's not shy about spending usually, this is definately, definately a worthy cause for investment.

My brothers best mat'e wife knows a girl who is a mate of Levy's wife and she told my bro's missus that Levy is gonna splash out in January. He is gonna buy Busquets from Barca for 15 mil, Gerrard from Liverscouse for 30 mil and Ramos from Madrid for 20 mil then he is going to sell bentley and hutton for a packet of peanuts and sell pav for some beans to plant and grow a beanstalk so Crouch can climb it and visit his relatives.

A message to Daniel Levy. For the first time in your reign as Chairmen of Tottenham Foottball Club you have officially given one of your coaches the opportunity to create and pick his own team without interference from upstairs. Harry has re payed you by creating a very entertaining team that has all the potential to win trophy's and compete in the Champions League. During the January transfer window and again next summer it is clear that many of the big guns will be making approaches for our top players as a result of their excellent form. Defoe, Palacios, Lennon, Huddlestone etc etc will all now be receiving a lot of attention from the likes of wise old Fergie and the big guns of Europe. Big offers will obviously be made for these players and I ask you Mr Levy not to sale any of Harry's prize assets in return for cash profits! Chelsea have managed to keep their top players for many years now which has been the key to their success. Be strong Mr Levy and resist these tempting offers. This will be the difference between success and failure ON THE PITCH!!!

Personally i hope harry has to sell before he can buy. I see Defoe as safe and the other 3 having a price. Like bernio said, levy said the same thing last year but i'm sure he'd stump up again if an opportunity came up but if he didnt "we dont like him no more".

FFS. Levy cant have made a dime out of this club by selling players - look at the maths, we ALWAYS spend more than we bring from sales. Exactly when has he sold a player who should have been kept just to get the money in. seriously, when, cos im bloody sick of hearing it.

Harry is gonna let a few players leave and he will bring in 1 or 2 players, What we will hope to see is that a few youngsters are given sub appearances and the likes of GIO and Bostock live up to there hype

If the Sandro rumours are true then I'm guessing a midfielder will leave, more than likely O'Hara as it's the easy option. If the Suazo rumours are true then either Pavlyuchenko and Keane will leave, or just Keane. My reasoning is that we won't sell a big guy to bring in another little guy. Especially as from what I've read, Suazo is similar to Defoe in the way he feeds and is very direct. We would either keep Pavlyuchenko with the promise we'll rotate more regularly, or we'd sell him and bring in another big guy. I personally think that Keane is safe, Suazo isn't coming and we probably won't bring a big guy in unless a great opportunity arises. Harry has said that 3 strikers are enough, and that its hard to keep 4 happy. Other than that I'm hoping a left back will come in to upgrade on BAE. I don't want a backup for him because I think thats the wrong mentality. I want someone to come in and keep BAE out of the team. Then I think our team will be even stronger with ample cover.

Agree Levy said that Spurs would not ne active in the transfer market last year. He also said he would not appoint a coach who didn't speak english. Since then he has hired Santini and Ramos. Can you believe a word he says. I think he will go all out to swap Gerard & Torres in exchange for Pav! Bargain time!

Not sure why we are still talking about strikers. We are scoring goals without a problem. It's the fact that I cannot relax when we are 2-0 up that worries me. Bring in defenders fast! Corluka is slow and gets beaten way too often for me. I'd stick Hudd in defense cause there is no way he is keeping his place if Mod comes back to form. Time to put King and Woodgate out to retirement. Better chance of getting Gazza back than the two of them.

I'd sell Bentley (hate to say it but if you believe todays reports its almost a cert), Pav, Jenas and hutton. At a rough average of 8m per player - think thats pretty realistic, maybe slightly less for hutton - that'd give us about 30m to spend, plenty to buy a quality CM and ST/CB.

I expect Arry would like another centre forward, defensive midfielder and centre back. He could fund this by selling a number of players but if nothing were to happen in Jan we would still have a strong squad capable of finishing in the top 4. Remember most clubs dont let there best players leave in Jan unless they are offered silly money. Letting 3 or 4 players leave and replacing them could unsettle what we have acheived so far. New players will take time to settle and gel with the current squad. I dont think we have anymore good ex-players that Arry can bring back to the team.

Joshtottenham, You ask "Exactly when has Levy sold a player who should have been kept just to get the money in". Why do think Levy sold Defoe? He sold him for the money! Thank god Harry brought him back! And why did Levy sale Carrick? Was it to be nice to Fergie or did Levy fancy the 24 million??? And what about Keane, why did Levy sale him? Why do you think we were in relegation trouble last year Josh? Simple. Levy sold Keane and Defoe for the money!!! Harry to run the football side of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club!!!

Only an idiot would say 'we have lots of money to spend'. If the right players are there Harry will get them but we do need to sell some deadweight with Pav and Bentley at the top of this list. The money then will be re-invested in Sandro and at least one more player...but who?

Geoff i have to disagree with you there mate, there's no point in paying someone's wages who doesn't want to be here, simples! Carrick wanted to leave, Keane wanted to leave and Defoe was forced to leave by Ramos whom only had a year to go on his contract so had to get something for him or he'd leave for nothing. Lots of good comments on here folks, Tornado well funny. Bernio, i agree the first player i'd buy is a top draw left back that can fit straight into the side. Forever, i agree mate, no point in coming out saying "yep we've got £50m to spend" as it only raises the price of any player we want to sign, as it is we pay way over the odds for most players we buy so a sensible statement in my eyes. Fully expect Hutton, Pav, Bentley and maybe Jenas to leave, and expect us to raid Wet Spam for Cole and Upson. As for left back, not sure how many decent players are out there in this position that we could go for, any ideas?

Harry is gonna sell all 4 of our strikers purely because of Everton game! Defoe missed a penalty so he's first out the door, the Crouch because he missed a few sitters and Keane because he's lost form! Pav is gonna stay! HA HA! What utter garbage! Why don't we sell Modric and Niko on for a profit and why not chuck Lennon in as well! Load of toss!!

We need a striker, a decent striker. Someone posted earlier that we don’t have a problem scoring goals etc. Maybe not a massive problem but we are only converting a small % of our chances which in the premier league aint gonna get you squat. I don’t think we need massive changes at all tho, maybe 2-3 out and 2-3 in. Sandro looks to be nailed on, ROYSTON BLOODY DRENTHE is available for about 5-6m and can play left back / left mid, fast as **** and is still only 22ish, and we need a striker. I do agree with harry for turning his nose up at the quoted figure of 13.5m for that Ivorian Doumbia (if its true) Far Far too much for an untested striker, but viable options are running out. Carlton Cole will be valued ridiculously high at 15m+ and he is not worth anywhere near that. Wish we’d have kept bent lol

Levy is making sure they dont get pushed if they do want someone. He is doing the right thing.ONly buy if the price is right.Weve spent too much on mediocre players and now have to get rid of some if its possible. The loans dont look good on the balance sheet. It just takes the wages off that are minimal. They need to find some value in quality players but thats difficult. Levy is serving notice that business will have toi change and we will have to either get money for some of the players we have that are fringe or find value in new young players.

Doctoryid, Ronaldo wanted to leave united for 3 years but Fergie kept him there until he had his shot at that 2nd champions league title on the trot. Lampard, Terry, Drogbra etc all flirted with leaving Chelsea until they were made happy to stay! Its the same at Man Utd, with Giggs, Scholes, Rooney, Ferdinand etc etc etc. If Tottenham are to be one of the big guns they need to keep there best players. Fact! Unless of course your happy for Tottenham to be a feeder club? Im not happy with that! I want big time Tottenham!!!

Geoff, the big difference is we are Spurs and they are Chavski and ManUre, they're consistenly winning trophies and playing champions league football, therefore they have more power in negotiations of this sort. They can offer higher salaries, have deeper pockets and the players have more to lose. Until we are in the CL and consistently fighting for honours we will never be able to compete when the likes of ManUre and Chavski come knocking. Trust me i want big time Tottenham too but we have to be realistic. I think it's an excellent post by Ox and i firmly believe that if we are to stake a claim to be genuine top 4 challengers this is the year that we have to close in, the likes of Liverpool are in total disarry from the board down and their financials are in a desparate situation, ManUre's finances aren't that much better, we have to take advantage of that but not to the detriment of our own financial stability.

stuboi10, Since February 2001 Daniel Levy has been chairmen of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. During this period he has failed to Qualify for the Champions League once! In nearly nine years the only trophy he has won is the League Cup. During the Period Levy has been Chairmen of Spurs Arsenal have won the Premiership twice, the F.A Cup twice and have Qualified for the Champions league 8 times going to one final. Chelsea during Levy's reign have won 2 league cups, 2 F.A Cups, and 2 Premierships titles as well as qualifying for the Champions League 7 times, going to one final. You Levy fans can talk all day about what levy and Enic have done behind the scenes. You can talk all day about all the hundreds of millions that they have pumped into the club without success. You can praise their pre tax profits to the cows come home, but the bottom line is our two main rivals Arsenal and Chelsea have dominated Us during his entire reign!!! Is this how great Levy is stuboi10??? And why do you find it so offensive that I should write a post to Daniel Levy asking him not to sale our best players? Do you want our best players sold? I often think that Levy and Enic are a bit like the Lib Dems, they talk a good game, when there is no chance of success i.e. CL qualification. Now that we are actually in a position to threaten I believe that they are reluctant to take the final step and really push the club the last step. To do this we need 2-3 top players in positions where the present encumbents are not good enough to take this step. Perhaps the board are happy to be perpetual door knockers, or bride's maids, rather than to push finally into the big time.

As much as we love the club as fans, Levy is 100% correct the books need to be balanced after all it is still a business and needs to make money, HR doesnt need millions in Jan, he has a good squad just needs to tweek it up a bit for the final push get rid of some of the dead wood which we are carrying. we are not ready for CL imo with this squad as it is. Europa is what we should aim for this season unless 2 or 3 classy players come in through Jan, Levy has given this club a stable foot now and as we all know we dont have the monies of chelsea man city etc.
