Van Bommel in, Palacios out?
It has been suggested that Bayern Munich midfielder Mark Van Bommel, could be a target for Tottenham, either in January or the summer.
33 year old Van Bommel is out of contract in the summer and although Bayern are looking to extend his stay at the club, the opportunity to play in the Premiership, even for a short period could appeal to the Dutchman.
The benefits of signing Van Bommel are that not only could he be a cheap or free transfer, but he would offer genuine experience and leadership to the side and could be an ideal tutor for our new superstar, Sandro, not forgetting he could be ideal company for the great Rafael van der Vaart.
Should a deal be made, it would surely spell the end for Wilson Palacios at Spurs, and based on recent games, it is already quite possible that our Brazilian has leapfrogged our Honduran as our first choice ball winner, but in the short term a player of Van Bommel`s pedigree could be a great asset, whilst also allowing us to cash in on Palacios and use that money to bring in players elsewhere in the squad.
Harry won`t worry about the players age and would welcome his experience and as we have seen with his bringing in William Gallas and trying to sign Patrick Vieira, if the player offers enough positives, he won`t worry about the date on his birth certificate...

I don't think it's the end of Palacios yet. He actually looked decent when he came on against Inter (despite managing to pick up a booking having only been on the pitch for 10 mins!), and same against Everton. The reason he was subbed is the same reason Sandro was subbed at HT against Fulham - he was on a yellow and was probably one tackle from being sent off. And in fairness to him the booking wasn't even his fault really...it was a mistake by Hutton that led to the incident. Anyway, much like how Lennon seems to have recovered from a loss of form by being dropped to the bench for a few games, I believe a similar thing could happen with Palacios. And as for Van Bommel - would rather keep Palacios, MVB is a thug and we don't have to resort to that kind of football with midfielders like Modric, VDV, Lennon and Bale.

Wilson is poor, but I'd never replace him with van Bommel. The guy is just a thuggish cheat that should not be allowed on the pitch. Horrible player.

Van Bommel? No because we have Palacios. Why would we reject him before he's reached his full maturity? What's the matter, is he suddenly not good enough? What about Sandro? No, no, no, no. We cannot keep spending like this at any rate, and definately not on players when are well stocked in those areas. What about Sandro, I repeat? No to Van Bommel. He's bloody ancient, could have come years ago, and has now missed the boat.

I know i`m on my own but is Sandro set to replace Hudd ?.Hudd is the best paaser in EPL no question but he`s slow & he does not protect the back four well enough ,but Sandro i see him & Modric running things with V.D.V just in front & Bale & Lennon on the wings .I`m very impressed with Sandro & for me it should soon be Hudd out Sandro in

Does this story really make sense? Palacios is 26, already at the club and familiar with the Premiership whereas van Bommel is 33, and at the tail end of an illustrious career.
Spurs have Sandro and the possibility of getting Muntari so why bother for a player next summer will be 34.

Wilso will recover his form right now in traning he is getting hios passing game sorted and believe you me in the next few weeks we will see a resurgent seargant and with Sandro via for a start it's just what we require. VB no chance.

For the most part, I agree with the second post from 'big cockeral', about the possibility of Sandro replacing Huddlestone. However, if the price was right, I would definitely bring in Van Bommel. There's no guarantee that Palacios will regain and maintain his form of old, and if Sandro picks up an injury, we do not have another capable defensive midfielder, and please don't mention Huddlestone here, as he can't tackle. Sure, Huddlestone is a great passer (most of the time), but a tough-tackling midfielder he is not... As well as being a hard man, or a 'thug' as some of you call him, Van Bommel would also bring much-needed leadership skills to the team and if there is any truth to this article, then I hope we sign him in January, along with a world-class striker.

A few years ago (before we had even heard of Palacios) there was talk of our trying to get Van Bommel. We could have done with him then but not now. He is 33 for chrissake, don't we have enough has-beens already and more than enough midfielders. As everyone is saying we need a top striker and a central defender NOT another MF.

Van Bommel is 2-3 years past his best. He would not be able to cope with the pace of the premiership and be a liability. Rather spend the money trying for Diarra, Muntari or Veloso. Wilson is not going to take us any further. We need to be looking to improve in any position we replace. Diarra, Dzeko and a central defender is needed.

Always solve the problem at hand. Dont go looking for a solution, if there is no problem in first place.Our worry is not tackling midfielders. Need of the hour is
i)strikers, one world class & other good second forward.
ii)Injury free good center back
Get the follwoing people we would get top4 for sure. Following are the prospects according to me.
Sellling list:
i) Keane
ii) Gio
iii) Bentley
iv) O Hara
v) Crouch
Buyling list
i) Luis Suarez. He could be 30m. Break the bank for him. He is value for money. He is young,even if he there in club for 3-4 yeras, he still will be 26-27.
ii) Edin Dzeko.
iii) Lukaku
iv) Hulk from Porto
v)Connor Wickham
vi)Ricky van Wolfswinkel
Defense.
I see follwoing 3 as good prospects. Gary Cahill,Phil Jones, Craig Cathcart. Cahill may be 15m, Jones 10m and Cathcart from blackpool could be got for good value as well.

I've said on other posts recently that Sandro has a huge presence when he's on the pitch. You really notice him. He's ready NOW. He should be starting NOW. He'll pick up plenty of bookings, but he is the enforcer we need, and already have. Not Van Bommel.

From what I have seen of Sandro so far I believe he is more than capable of being our long term tackling CM. Forward, LB and CB should be our priority.

Would like Van Bommel, he could help Sandro with his game whilst allowing us to get some money together from the sale of Palacios to spend on a decent striker ! Unfortunetely after the performance Fabiano put in last night pretty sure he'll be staying where his is

Van Bommell couldn't deal with the pace of the Premiership in the middle. I remember feeling sorry for Davids after his legs had gone and players with half his ability were getting the better of him. Van Bommell wouldn't help us progress as a club.

Don't want him. Don't need him. If Sandro continues to progress we could ship Palacios and not replace him. We'd still have Hudd, Sandro, Jenas & O'Hara as more defensive CMs. Could ship O'Hara too and still no stress.

Not just me then who thought Sandro looks the business. He has a bright future at our club and I am looking forward to a point where he can play 90 mins! Wilson will be back I am sure as will Lennon. Wilson has had a lot on his plate with his brother etc so I think the press are too quick on getting him out of the club and I am sure we are not thinking about moving him on. He is Harrys signing after all.

If Mark Van Bommel were to come in on a short term deal and on a wage that was respective of the rest of the squad then I think he'd be a tremendous addition. Yes he's dirty and yes he's 33 but how many of you were complaining that we were too soft and inexperienced against Inter first half? This guy wouldnt play every game but he'd play most away fixtures and he'd kick the opposition up and down the pitch, then walk away with a warning and 3 points. Tremendous talent. I definately wouldnt take him in place of Palacios though, I still feel the Honduran has the potential to be world class and with arguably the best Defensive Midfielder in the world right now helping him for 6mth-a year, he could get there.

Wilson is poor even with a good 45 minutes he did the usual stupid crap he always does and picks up a yellow! We cannot have that because Wilson with a card is basically the most useless player on the pitch because then he can't tackle and is on the ropes of getting a red always. Van Bommel would be a useless pickup he is decent player but he is too old to even consider picking up. He has been awful and Bayern as of recent times so what is to suggest that he would even be worth picking up. We really don't need these kind of players in our squad to play good football....I can appreciate a tackle but when that is one of the only qualities you possess then....tough luck there is far more to football then the art of a tackle. Van Bommell is to old and Palacios is just not good enough...sorry but this isn't form its just simply we have upgraded players and now his technical abilities stick out more then anything.
