I suppose this will be a case of Luis who? But as far as the fans and players are concerned, it should be a case of who cares, as long as he can do the job.
As yet we have had no news of a No2 for AVB, but this appointment of a fellow Portuguese coach might not be the most exciting news of the day, but what is important is that he and Villas-Boas share the same philosophy of football, which seems to be the case. Martins has spent much of his time coaching the academy age of 16 and above players, spending six years with Sporting Lisbon, before moving to SC Braga in 2008 as the Head of Youth Development.
48 year old Martins moved to Saudi Arabia in 2011, where he worked with the national team and also assisted in the countries preparations for this summers Olympics, but if I am honest, I have never heard of him, but in reality that doesn't matter a jot, as long as he has the capabilities, to make our better individually and also able to work as a cohesive unit. I assume he speaks very good English like the rest of the new managerial recruits, but I am sure we will find out much more of the new man in the next few hours and days...

Spuds I've just heard that SSN slip up. Fantastic news if true. Holding onto our key players gives us a real chance to build on last season. Onwards and upwards COYS!!
sydqcb5 I'm not sure what the situation with Madrid is. One place will say they need to sell, the next says they've turned down a bid for Granero from Liverpool so if they need to sell they surely can't afford to be turning down offers? I get the feeling 1 or 2 of their surplus will be coming our way to ease their bloated squad and lower the cash payment to us. I'm thinking it'll be Diarra and Carvalho they're the names that crop up the most.
The great thing about having this Portuguese connection is the fact we'll be more likely to entice Portuguese / Brazilian football players, that seem to fit the style of our football quite perfectly, over our rivals. Arsene Wenger at his best was able to do the same with his French revolution. Players like Thierry Henry, Anelka, Viera, Pires and co, all preferred to work under a countryman and the results were blinding. In the future this could mean the arrivals of Moutinho, Rodriguez, Hulk etc but lets not get too carried away.
There is also the fact that we're broadening our range of possible transfers. AVB is a man that has a passion for football in an almost obsessive compulsive disorderly way. Instead of watching match of the day to see what has been we can buy to fill the gaps, we're going to be linked with random names of players the likes of you and me have never heard of from around the globe.
I know we're eager to get the season underway and can't wait to see how everything pans out for us, but please remember this is a transitional stage. I'm not saying we can't win the PL or finish in a top four spot, but i certainly don't expect it in the first season, especially if we're resigned to losing Modric, and seeing our rivals strengthen with additions in Kagawa, Hazard, Marin, Giroud, Podolski etc. I know some clever clogs is going to bring up the fact their have been big losses around us also with the likes of Drogba and RVP making moves, but as the smaller club losing Modric is definitely the bigger blow. Hopefully AVB will get to grips pretty fast, and his spell at Chelsea would have contributed to his much needed PL experience, but a CL spot this season would be a dream, making next years transfer window something to get excited about.
Out of topic, thought Bale was injured, but from seeing those pictures by sydqcb5, he looks fine?
Four top class defenders in BAE VERTONGHEN KABOUL WALKER working underneath possibly two of the best defenders the world has ever seen under Ledley King and Carvalhio? Wow.... dreamy!
Bale - 36 apps 9 gls
Sigurdsson - 18 apps 7 gls
VDV - 33 apps 11 gls
That's an average of 12 goals a season each which is pretty high end stuff and complimented by....
Adebayor - 33 apps 17 gls
Vertonghen - 31 apps 8 gls
and bench players like......
Defoe - 25 apps 11 gls
Potential signings such as.....
Sturridge - 28 apps 11 gls
36 apps 11 gls
Damiao - 33 apps 17 gls
Remy - 29 apps 12 gls
Lewandowski - 34 apps 22 gls
We could be in for alot of cheers! Take into account we have a fantastic back line, and it seems very promising indeed!
Found this info on Moutinho........
"Though Moutinho's buyout clause is €40m (Dh180,515m), Tottenham believe they may be able to secure the player for as little as €22m. The deal, however, is likely to be complicated by third-party ownership and sell-on values.
Moutinho forced a €10m transfer from Sporting in the summer of 2010 and the Lisbon club are due 25 per cent of the profit on the player's next move. Porto also sold, and then bought back, proportions of Moutinho's economic rights to a Belgian company. Currently, 15 per cent of those rights are owned by Football Invest Fund.
Moutinho is represented by Pini Zahavi and his nephew Nir, and there is scepticism about reports that Manchester United have made an offer for the midfielder. Tottenham believe they do not face competition from Sir Alex Ferguson for the player's signature.
Hopefully QPR are unveiling Jenas & Bentley as 2 major signings for £625
As soon as they don`t get their way problems start to arise .I think V.D.V should leave because if doesn`t play every minute he wants to ,there could be problems ahead .
Reports coming out of Portugal suggesting Moutinho's coming for Spurs talks. Hope this Modric saga ends one way or the other soon. €35m plus Carvalho and a.n. other is a decent deal IMO and Moutinho's a good replacement, just get it done.
"Martins began his career in coaching at Sporting CP as a youth coach. He won national titles for their Under-17 and Under-19 sides, working with players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and João Moutinho. He was appointed Assistant Manager during the 2004-2005 season during which Sporting reached the final of the UEFA Cup. During the 2006-2007 season, he managed Portimonense S.C.. In 2008, Luís was appointed head of youth development by S.C. Braga. In 2010, he coached Saudi Arabia's national and Olympic teams. During the 2011-2012 season Martins coached Al Ahli's Under-23 side to the national championship in Saudi Arabia."
Nothing to write off so soon going by what's read there
Chelsea & Spurs are doing a straight swap ,Luka Modric For the Chelsea physio Eva Carneiro.
Get in there Levy you beauty ,legend .Best deal ever ...
Things are taking shape slowly but surely
Wonder what the hold up is for AVB no2?
Also thought acoach would have been someone we knew I hope the players take to him and don't see him as a 'nobody'.
redhotspur that video is funny. Loved the Blondel comments lol
AVB doesn`t have to do 3rd or better .You don`t need a great deal of intelligence ,or even basic football knowledge to work out all was not right .
BAE just posted on twitter "My first day was cool great atmosphere great spirit ...diferent way to work ,with a new manager n'staff sounds good... LOL" so much for the rebellion....
I'm not too fussed about who the Modric replacement is as he hasn't even left?....we still need strikers from 2 years ago!!!
Ade gives us one option but we need another out and out striker like Damiao, Lewandowski, Seydou Doumbia, Burak Yılmaz etc and another forward like sturridge/Remy/Hoilett...
Might even be a deciding factor when trying to entice the young Oscar, Damiao, Ganso etc...
