Luis Martins signs on as first team coach.

I suppose this will be a case of Luis who? But as far as the fans and players are concerned, it should be a case of who cares, as long as he can do the job.

As yet we have had no news of a No2 for AVB, but this appointment of a fellow Portuguese coach might not be the most exciting news of the day, but what is important is that he and Villas-Boas share the same philosophy of football, which seems to be the case. Martins has spent much of his time coaching the academy age of 16 and above players, spending six years with Sporting Lisbon, before moving to SC Braga in 2008 as the Head of Youth Development.

48 year old Martins moved to Saudi Arabia in 2011, where he worked with the national team and also assisted in the countries preparations for this summers Olympics, but if I am honest, I have never heard of him, but in reality that doesn't matter a jot, as long as he has the capabilities, to make our better individually and also able to work as a cohesive unit. I assume he speaks very good English like the rest of the new managerial recruits, but I am sure we will find out much more of the new man in the next few hours and days...

Hello is anyone there?????
redhotspur1234
Seems good news as we may be getting Mountinho now as Martins has worked with him before which would be a great signing imho!!!
redhotspur1234
Yes.

Spuds-U-Like
Having read the link about this guy off an earlier article, coupled with the positive things I've read about AVB, I'm very optimistic indeed. We could have a coaching set up that is the envy of the Prem & if the inadvertantly blabbed news on SSN about Modric, VDV & Ade turns out to be true, well, watch out everyone, the Spurs are gonna get ya!!!

He has worked as Assistant to Frank Rijkaard,so why not AVB ?
sydqcb5
Twitter rumour saying Moutinho is in talks with Spurs
Whitehart Lad
wha_sux,simply the best article available on Luis Martins - just gives a taste of what to expect from the man. I guess he will be more useful to the youth players.
sydqcb5
Whitehart , yes according to some ITK journalist, he met with Porto president Nuno Pinto da Costa on last wednesday requesting a transfer.Another rumor yesterday was , he is in UK speaking to club(s).
sydqcb5
Thanks for that article what_sux some real insight there, seems he favours AVB's 433 pressing game so they should work very well together.

Spuds I've just heard that SSN slip up. Fantastic news if true. Holding onto our key players gives us a real chance to build on last season. Onwards and upwards COYS!!
Spurs Allday
With his Yuth tes coach & ex-manager being in our club, SHOULD get him to us, given United seeing not keen on him. I guess it will come down to whether a deal can be done between the 2 clubs.
sydqcb5
Interesting pictures of Obafemi Martins Ox. I assume pictures of Luis Martins are few and far between!
SpuriousLife
Pedro Pinto from CNN said Moutinho to Spurs was as close to a certainty as you'll get. He broke the AVB story before anyone and he has his finger on the pulse of all things relating to Portuguese football. He also said he'd choose us over United if it came to a straight shoot out.
Spurs Allday
sydqcb5 the other club is United. I think we may now have the edge having both AVB and now Martins!! So that oaves the way for Modric. And guys please this "Mic left on2 SSN is bollox. "Yeh Keith said" who's Keith? Blok down the pub!!!! Modric will leave once we have found and areed his replacement
Whitehart Lad
and that replacement points to Moutinho ;)
Whitehart Lad
Someones pointed out on a previous article that the SSN blip was from last summer which makes sense, oh well Moutinho isn't a bad replacement.
Spurs Allday
The new name in the Modric-Madrid "deal" is Granero, anyone know anything about this guy?
Spurs Allday
looks as though he has real experience working and developing youth will fit well with our new training complex...as for Moutinho he's a good player but imo not on Luka's level yet....he's also quite small and despite pitches now favouring small players he'll need to be strong to deal with the big fast physical players he'll find in the prem....he may take time to settle...if we get him of course!!

Just read the link what_sux supplied, a little different to the 'run around a bit' attitude we once had (HR). Looking forward to this season like no other in recent years. Lets hope the players canadapt to this system COYS

Spurs Allday, Granero is like our Huddlestone - plenty of promise but rarelyhas that perfect game.
sydqcb5
sydqcb5 Marvelous just what we need another nearly but not quite man. Some of the papers are suggesting we'll take 28mil and Carvalho as player/assistant but I'd hope for a bit more than that, either another player thrown in or another 5mil or so on top
Spurs Allday
To me, Ideal Modric replacement would be Benat Etxebarria, Spanish International. We were linked with him a month back for 12mEuros. The guy is pure class and has represented Spain as recently as Pre- Euro friendly. He is being considered to fill Xavi place in their midfield. Just look at his skills & assists & vision, you will know what I mean But if it comes to Moutinho, I would support it too, but he could be expensive acquisition
sydqcb5
Modric has been quoted in the Spanish press saying he wants to go to Madrid. Bye Luka, hello Joao!
Spurs Allday
Spurs Allday, I agree I would want a Striker that way we can use the cash to replace Modric and have a ST with 1 more to find. Problem is I dont realy see any of their ST wanting to leave Madrid from us, esp if VDV leaves
Whitehart Lad
Spurs Allday, I dont think Modric is a given to Madrid. He might want to play for them. But if Madrid cannot offload its players & raise the cash, the deal is not happening. Levy will never sell a player under value.
sydqcb5
Spurs Allday last season Modric said he wants to play for Chelsea , this season he wants to play for Madrid. End of the day, Levy will whip his a$$ and shut his mouth, if the evaluation is not met by the buying club.
sydqcb5
What are Sherwood and Clive Allen's roles likely to be, if it is as familar spare parts, to keep die-hards happy, then get rid,we can't afford passengers, or dissenting views, getting in the way. If AVB is going to sink or swim by his own footballing philosophies then we must give him the chance to do so. Allen and to an extent Sherwood (although he did a great job with the future generation side) are boh tainted by the Redknapp era, perhaps a totally clean break would be best.
Frank
First pictures of Training - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2170827/Luis-Martins-new-team-coach-Tottenham.html
sydqcb5
Outside of Madrid and excluding Prem teams PSG are the only other interested party and teh ony ones who could actually stump up the cash...... do they hae any ST we could have??
Whitehart Lad
Whitehart Lad what about that Joselu kid? He's a striker and supposed to be highly rated, never seen him play but if he's as good as they say we could try for him.

sydqcb5 I'm not sure what the situation with Madrid is. One place will say they need to sell, the next says they've turned down a bid for Granero from Liverpool so if they need to sell they surely can't afford to be turning down offers? I get the feeling 1 or 2 of their surplus will be coming our way to ease their bloated squad and lower the cash payment to us. I'm thinking it'll be Diarra and Carvalho they're the names that crop up the most.
Spurs Allday
It's great news all round lately. I think anyone who had any doubts about AVB are slowly starting to part with them.

The great thing about having this Portuguese connection is the fact we'll be more likely to entice Portuguese / Brazilian football players, that seem to fit the style of our football quite perfectly, over our rivals. Arsene Wenger at his best was able to do the same with his French revolution. Players like Thierry Henry, Anelka, Viera, Pires and co, all preferred to work under a countryman and the results were blinding. In the future this could mean the arrivals of Moutinho, Rodriguez, Hulk etc but lets not get too carried away.

There is also the fact that we're broadening our range of possible transfers. AVB is a man that has a passion for football in an almost obsessive compulsive disorderly way. Instead of watching match of the day to see what has been we can buy to fill the gaps, we're going to be linked with random names of players the likes of you and me have never heard of from around the globe.

I know we're eager to get the season underway and can't wait to see how everything pans out for us, but please remember this is a transitional stage. I'm not saying we can't win the PL or finish in a top four spot, but i certainly don't expect it in the first season, especially if we're resigned to losing Modric, and seeing our rivals strengthen with additions in Kagawa, Hazard, Marin, Giroud, Podolski etc. I know some clever clogs is going to bring up the fact their have been big losses around us also with the likes of Drogba and RVP making moves, but as the smaller club losing Modric is definitely the bigger blow. Hopefully AVB will get to grips pretty fast, and his spell at Chelsea would have contributed to his much needed PL experience, but a CL spot this season would be a dream, making next years transfer window something to get excited about.
RyanHotSpur
Rumour is Modric is not in training today !
sydqcb5
sydqcb5 Love the second picture down on that article. AVB's hand gesture looks rather suspect lol "yes Younes all that you've heard is true, that JT is a right w@nk3r"
Spurs Allday
Thanks sydqcb5, Spurs Allday and ro6ertj. That article I just found when finding more about Luis Martins.

Out of topic, thought Bale was injured, but from seeing those pictures by sydqcb5, he looks fine?
what_sux
sydqcb5 I don't think any of the players who featured in the Euros come back yet. I think they've got an extra week? Pretty sure they're usually given extra leave.
Spurs Allday
It's notable how angry and upset the players look. I can see the training ground disharmony is already in full flow......
Spurs Allday
I guess the biggest difference between English clubs & other European clubs like Ajax, Sporting, Barca are - when English player looses star players, they loose their way as a team, as the emphasis is on the individual. But teams like Ajax,Sporting, Porto survive & perform year after year because their game play depends on the system & philosophy they play. So,when they loose a star player, set back is temporary but long term they just go on & on. Simple example of this is Scum - who year after year loose top players, yet they continue to some how hang in there. So, if we need a self sustained model ,we need to work to a system. When we start playing this way, then any future investment could then help us safe guard our investent in players and prolong their stay at the club. Its a gamble but its gamble worth taking.
sydqcb5
Another thought on the coaching staff.

Four top class defenders in BAE VERTONGHEN KABOUL WALKER working underneath possibly two of the best defenders the world has ever seen under Ledley King and Carvalhio? Wow.... dreamy!

what_sux
According to Spanish newspaper AS AVB has turned down Diarra. He's interested in Carvalho though so perhaps Madrid are trying to offer another player to replace Diarra in the deal. Sahin and Higuain are both reported to have turned us down.
Spurs Allday
what_sux - Just making up the numbers because of the amount of competitions we're competing in. Should we be knocked out of most come January he'll most likely be available for loan again. Can't see him featuring in any PL games.
RyanHotSpur
It would not surprise me if Modric is not training, he is on his way out for the right fee. However Levy will not allow him to do an RVP rant, if he does DL will make sure he goes nowhere. I think they want AVB to start with a clean slate and so keeping away from training someone on his way out makes sense to me
Forever Spurs
sydqcb5, very good point.
ItalianYiddo
Joao Moutinho will follow AVB, now we have Luis Martins on board, it's as certain as christmas day will always be on the 25th of dec.............It does not seem possible, that we have signed these players so far, Siggy, Vetigo, and Fryer tuck subject to a tribunal, only dreams under that last twa7.........

sydqcb5 - spot on reference the scum, something i said last season, they play 4-1-4-1, thats it, never changes regardless, when do you ever see or remember whinger playing 442....that's why i feel that losing VDV is not a big problem, because he can only play in one position, that limits our options, Get in Moutinho for Modric, his a class player.
spu 4 life
What do all these midfield signings mean for Parker's Future? Assuming Modric goes and Moutinho comes in, with Siggi already signed, Sandro a nailed on first teamer. thudd back in training and Oscar beign touted as a possible siging surely old Scotty will be shown the door just to make squad room?
Slurms McKenzie
Quite a good lineup in terms of goalscoring midfielders next season. Going by domestic league form.

Bale - 36 apps 9 gls
Sigurdsson - 18 apps 7 gls
VDV - 33 apps 11 gls

That's an average of 12 goals a season each which is pretty high end stuff and complimented by....

Adebayor - 33 apps 17 gls
Vertonghen - 31 apps 8 gls

and bench players like......

Defoe - 25 apps 11 gls

Potential signings such as.....

Sturridge - 28 apps 11 gls
36 apps 11 gls
Damiao - 33 apps 17 gls
Remy - 29 apps 12 gls
Lewandowski - 34 apps 22 gls

We could be in for alot of cheers! Take into account we have a fantastic back line, and it seems very promising indeed!
RyanHotSpur
Oscar is the 36 apps 11 gls btw

Found this info on Moutinho........

"Though Moutinho's buyout clause is €40m (Dh180,515m), Tottenham believe they may be able to secure the player for as little as €22m. The deal, however, is likely to be complicated by third-party ownership and sell-on values.

Moutinho forced a €10m transfer from Sporting in the summer of 2010 and the Lisbon club are due 25 per cent of the profit on the player's next move. Porto also sold, and then bought back, proportions of Moutinho's economic rights to a Belgian company. Currently, 15 per cent of those rights are owned by Football Invest Fund.

Moutinho is represented by Pini Zahavi and his nephew Nir, and there is scepticism about reports that Manchester United have made an offer for the midfielder. Tottenham believe they do not face competition from Sir Alex Ferguson for the player's signature.

It would be nice to get them both Slurms...I rate Ade so want him to stay :-) You could be right though against popular belief...
SpursOne2
Yea Big C... Joey Barton made it through first day of training without nuttin' anyone!
Slurms McKenzie
I also rate Ade SpursOne2 but to sign both would be in the regine of 30-35 million thsi would put a very big dent in AVB's reported warchest without replacing modric, covering LB /RB or RW and GK
Slurms McKenzie
VDV and Parker will probably go this window! Jenas and Bentley gone for anywhere near 8-10 million would really be a nice boost, thats siggi paid for and the squad improved!

Reports coming out of Portugal suggesting Moutinho's coming for Spurs talks. Hope this Modric saga ends one way or the other soon. €35m plus Carvalho and a.n. other is a decent deal IMO and Moutinho's a good replacement, just get it done.
Spurs Allday
Well a bit but think about it. The lad has played at the top level. He has experience against the best. He can play anywhere across the midfield. He runs like there's no tomorrow. He wouldn't be a starter but he is a squad player who'd happily sit on the bench. Put it this way, I'd have him over Pienaar, Bentley and Jenas any day.
TopSpur13
Good i want our stadium up before theirs ha
SpursOne2
First time I've felt a little worried. On talksport their Portuguese correspondent was saying how he and the rest of the Portuguese media were a bit mythed with this signing, as he's a bit of a nobody. Surely after AVBs nightmare at CFC, he'd look to get a experience coach with PL experience. The players may not take to this 'nobody'. Is it a bit of a 'yes man' safe bet from AVB, someone who will do as he says no matter what?? Let's hope this blokes a hidden gem cos u-19 manager and Saudi assistant coach doesn't get the blood pumping!
liamyid
liamyid - How many assistant coaches can you name who have better credentials in terms of management? Managing at International level in a very distant country must have been quite the learning curve. His CV speaks volumes more than some of the suggestions i've heard previously!
RyanHotSpur
Just heard that he's not his 'number 2' so think I'm ok with that, ignore last post. As I said above, I think his no.2 should be experienced and have previous links to the club. If Sherwood werent going upstairs I say him. Poyet would be perfect, but a non stater as he's doing so well on his own. Any suggestions??

Ryan, Steve Staunton managed an international team, played at the highest level and in several world cups and he's out of work should we sign him up?

Slurms McKenzie - No. You don't have to be a good player to become a great manager/coach which is extremely evident on a global scale. I'm happy with AVB's choice. He obviously knows the guy and it's important there is a bond between the two (as long as it isn't Kevin). The fact that your assistant coach has has the opportunity and experience of managing at International level is a bonus.
RyanHotSpur

Not really having ago at you Ryan but basing a descion on a CV alone can be decieving. My point is on Paper Staunton would look like a good choice as opposed to the reality which showed him to be a complete scuttering gob*****e as a manager / coach

Slurms McKenzie - I'm not solely basing my agreement on the mans CV. It's hardly stand out from the crowd. It's more-so faith in AVB. You don't need a massive reputation if the potential is there.

"Martins began his career in coaching at Sporting CP as a youth coach. He won national titles for their Under-17 and Under-19 sides, working with players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and João Moutinho. He was appointed Assistant Manager during the 2004-2005 season during which Sporting reached the final of the UEFA Cup. During the 2006-2007 season, he managed Portimonense S.C.. In 2008, Luís was appointed head of youth development by S.C. Braga. In 2010, he coached Saudi Arabia's national and Olympic teams. During the 2011-2012 season Martins coached Al Ahli's Under-23 side to the national championship in Saudi Arabia."

Spurs Allday, RM need to offload salary, not so much players. Most La Liga teams do not have 25 senior players. If memory serves Barca had 22. They pay more guys higher wages and take on less players. Frankly, Harry should have pitched that to Levy given his reluctance to play guys who were not his favourite in anything other than cup competitions he considered a distraction. I don't think RM can afford to add Modric on with what his wages must surely become without dumping a couple of senior players. COYS

The big news, proper news, for today and probably for the week ahead, was the return to training at Tottenham. Are players involved in the recent Euros for a few weeks and then their holidays, back in training already? I'd have thought it was a bit early for that. The photos from the training ground today showed those uninvolved in the recent Euros and the forthcoming Olympics, among them junior players, new arrival Siggy, and recovering from their injuries Messrs Huddlestone, Dawson, Walker and Bale. It will be good to see Parker, Modric, VdV, Defoe, Rose, Sandro, GDS and the rest back on the training pitch before long.
Airwave
Picture of the lads doing push ups made me think a bit. I doubt they've done fitness training for 4 years - most of them probably had to have a push up explained to them. Have people who were involved in the Euros got an extra bit of time off or something?
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Thanks for clearing that up peterballb. I'd imagine those guys are all on a decent wage, hearing Kaka is begging for a cut price move to Milan.

redhotspur that video is funny. Loved the Blondel comments lol
Spurs Allday
peterballb - I think we've agreed on this for a long time. 25 senior players is a maximum. We should have 20 as far as I'm concerned, 22 maxumum (ie 2 senior players for every position). Instead of paying 25 players average wages when 10 of them are guaranteed to be bench warmers, when we could have more top class players on higher wages, backed up by players coming through out system, that are on £10-20k a week, rather than £40-70k. That could be the compromise until we get a new stadium in place anyway.

If Modric leaves then we'll sign Moutinho, unless the demand for Modric is high enough that Levy wants to sign his replacement first, safe in the knowledge there'll be a bidding war for his services. Perhaps he's learned from the mistakes of old (ie selling Berbatov without a replacement). Thanks for the info Spurs Allday.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Sandro leading our recruitment drive lol http://globoesporte.globo.com/futebol/selecao-brasileira/noticia/2012/07/sandro-admite-interesse-do-tottenham-em-oscar-falei-para-acertarem-logo.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Spurs Allday
Fascinating but what does it mean????
Big Ron
Goooood lad Sandro!
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Big Ron he's basically told Levy that if he wants Oscar he needs to get a move on or we'll miss the boat. It seems Levy consults him on Brazilian players.

BAE just posted on twitter "My first day was cool great atmosphere great spirit ...diferent way to work ,with a new manager n'staff sounds good... LOL" so much for the rebellion....
Spurs Allday
Big Ron I also get the feeling our buddy Sandro will be having a word in Oscar's ear and maybe Damiao's too
Spurs Allday
Is it possible we can ban ITK bull**** from these forums ?? It's a load of fraff and just does my head in !! Anyone else agree ??
SUper Yido
i think we should ban e sports news and all the you have won BS
Cape Town Spurs
Super- Whilst I agree with you, I do not encourage censorship, and even dullards who think they are brightening our pathetic lives with their plagiaristic crapola, should be allowed their five seconds of fame.
lordjohnny
We should at least ban the phrase "you heard it here first". Anyone who says that deserves to be chemically castrated.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Did I say "chemically castrated"? Silly me, I meant "castrated with a blunt hatchet."
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Well done Harry Kane, got the winner for England U-19's vs France
Spurs Allday
Yes I'm really hoping to see a lot more of Sandro now and if can invite/persuade his friends to come would be great
Big Ron
Just saw Harry Kane goal Euro-EngU19 vs FraU19 . It was a really good finish, but whats satisfying to see is before taking the volley, he makes good space inside the box. As I have been saying over the past 6 months, this lad is great talent. He looks to me more of a second striker and the fact is, he is ever improving. His hold up play has improved, his shooting has improved and so is his movement. If groomed properly, he could make our First XI in a season. We should play him at Europa & Carling cup start of season.
sydqcb5
syd, Kane is a very decent player. He's intelligent and confident and would thrive with decent players anticipating his movement. Very composed finisher and I'd like to see him involved a bit more.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Patricio(GK).. Walker(LB).. Kaboul(CB).. Verts(CB).. BAE(LB).. Sandro (DMF) Siggy(MF).. Mountinho//Oscar(MF).. Bale(LAW).. Remy/Lennon(RAW).. Ade/Lewandowski/Defoe/Coulibaly............. 4-1-2-3.
Yidmarks
HAD THIS GUT FEELING FOR A LONG THAT MODRIC IS NOT GONA BE ALLOWED TO LEAVE... LEVY WILL PUT HIS FOOT DOWN AGAIN WITH RAT BOY... .... THE ONLY WAY I SEE HIM LEAVING IS IF REAL MADRID PAY UP 35+ MILLION... AND EVEN THEN HE WILL BE 50/50 STILL..... LEVY/AVB IS BUILDING A TEAM...NOT DISMANTLING ONE...
Yidmarks
as you can see... i have left modric out of my starting 11.... with the hope that he does stay at the lane... Id take Mountinho or Oscar or Benat Etxebarria as replacments....35 million is 35 million....
Yidmarks
Unless AVB has said to Levy that he'd prefer to work with a fully motivated Joao Moutinho than a demotivated Luka Modric. Very possible.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
Lets face it, if that was the case then Levy would definitely sanction it. He'd make a profit overall of course.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
All depends on AVB Yidmarks. If he wants a 100% committed Moutinho over a sulky Modric then I think Levy will sell and rightly so. Modric had quite a few on the field spats with Bale last year and I'm not sure he's a good guy to have around if his hearts not in it. Moutinho's an excellent player and we'd be making a profit out of those deals so AVB needs to decide if a 100% Moutinho is better than a 75% Modric. AVB has pulling power and plenty of contacts losing Modric with him at the helm isn't as big a disaster as it would have been previously, I have faith that he'll find an adequate replacement.
Spurs Allday
on topic... an assistant manager will always be there to do the hard graft on an every day basis... Mr Martins could be the man to get the best out of people... im sure AVB has done his homework on the fella... he wouldnt want to bring any mug to sit next to him,,,
Yidmarks
with you on that SPURS ALLDAY.... based on how he played after the Chelsea situation and then how he played towards the end of the season.... i agree with u. 100% commitment meeded anyday... sell the little rat face little (unt.... Mountinho or Oscar or Benat Etxebarria as replacments ... id be happy with any of them...
Yidmarks
Sounds like Oscar going to the scum in west London :( #not fair
redhotspur1234
********s chelsea :( hope we at least get leandro
Guernman
what happened to our special arrangement with internacional, don't we get first option on players?
Guernman
We have the right to match any offers on any Internacional players if I have it right. Now, if the player doesn't want to come to us or if the offer is ridiculous they can have him. COYS
peterballb
Yes Guernman we do. Daily Mail broke the story, it's odd how they know he's off to Chelsea yet his teammate at the Olympics Sandro knew nothing of this development when interviewed earlier? (Yawn)
Spurs Allday
Either way we'll just chase Ganso instead. Interesting part of that report if any of it is true is with Marin, Hazard, Oscar and Hulk added to their options what does that mean for Mata?
Spurs Allday
Hey, Bernio, did we hear that from you first? COYS
peterballb
Hey, Bernio, did we hear that from you first? COYS

http://www.sambafoot.com/en/news/33215_sandro_tells_spurs_to_sign_oscar.html#.T_tdlRQZsQo.twitter interesting twist sandro says spurs should sign Oscar ?? Something don't quite smell right ???
redhotspur1234
What do you mean Redhotspur?
zombie-greavsie
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1123571/gareth-bale-can-leave-spurs-for-the-right-price?&cc=5739. I don't know if anyone had read this one. Apparently, Bale could leave Spurs if someone offers £80m. Now I like Bale and I'm sure Levy and AVB like Bale, but if any team is going to offer £80m for Bale they can have him - we'll even throw in a choice of Bentley or Jenas for free.
In-spurs-ational
redhotspur Exactly!! Also Sandro was interviewed in Brazil where the whole squad is preparing for the Olympics. The mail(like most papers) are running the Adebayor story only they are claiming Levy's been bent over a table and is paying a million more than any other paper is reporting and he's bowed to Adebayor's wage demands so I guess it's down to what sounds believable to the individual, my thoughts on the matter? Complete and utter bollox!
Spurs Allday
Telegraph going with the Oscar to Chelsea story as well.
zombie-greavsie
Quite funny the change in Chelsea if this happens. They've had success through powering through teams and now they're going into next season with Marin, Oscar and Hazard?? Talented players but too many lightweights for the PL. You can get away with one or maybe two but three and none have PL experience, they'll get eaten alive.
Spurs Allday
Chelsea can't beat us to every player on AVB's list. I'm sure he has a plan b, c, d etc. Don't hold out much hope that we will get Moutinho.
zombie-greavsie
zombie I agree mate, no sooner had this news broke the rumors of Ganso coming intensified. I'd be surprised with them wanting Ganso that they'd accept a deal off our rivals given that Ganso's our plan B, seems like a daft idea considering we can blow them away with our wage offer.
Spurs Allday
Don't worry zombie-greavsie, we've been linked with so many players recently, we can't afford them all. We will lose out on some and gain others - we got Sigi when Liverpool wanted him and got Vert when (I think) Arsenal wanted him. Some you win, some you lose
In-spurs-ational
Still waiting on Fryers confirmation also hearing we're close to getting Laschelles(ahead of Arsenal again lol)
Spurs Allday
Currently, who would want to go to Arsenal? I almost feel sad for them at the moment. Like I said, almost
In-spurs-ational
Well said both of you guys. Like the idea that AVB has a system and looks for players who can fit into it. The alternatives will still be pursued intstead. Oscar to Chelsea sounds like a hijack for no other reason than to show who has the bigger wad of cash. Still, don't you just love the Dail Mail. Bet the entire sports staff jizzed their pants when they found out the news of this transfer.
zombie-greavsie
So obviously the Chavs are annoyed that we are refusing to sell them Modric so are going after one of our target in Oscar. Don't believe for a second the deal is done to Chavs. Likely he will choose Chavs over us but bare in mind Oscar has met AVB couple of times when AVB was in Brazil. Moutinho is ours i think though, if we sell Modric and lose out of Oscar, definitely worth throwing a bid in for Ganso to see what happens.
CGan1
I think Moutinho will happen if/when Modric goes. He'll be AVB's big money make or break signing. Like Bentley was for Ramos(although hopefully with far greater success)
Spurs Allday
I see Spurs and Chelsea are also clashing over Lewandowski. I can't see it myself. I read that his club want upwards of 35m euros for him. At that price there is only going to be one winner who would be wiling to pay that price for a person that may or may not suit the premiership
In-spurs-ational
I-S-A I think our striker target this summer(other than the obvious Adebayor deal) is Damiao. Even in Brazil they're talking like its a done deal. Forlan signed, Nilmar on the way, they know somethings got to give.
Spurs Allday
Spurs Allday, please don't jinx Moutinho by bringing Bentley's name into it.
In-spurs-ational
Although I agree with your point.
In-spurs-ational
Spurs Allday, whatever happens on the striker front, isn't it nice that we actually seem to have a striker target this window. I was thinking we had settled on Spain's master plan by default
In-spurs-ational
Fingers crossed we get Adebayor. That will allow City to buy RVP. As the adverts go "I'm loving it"
In-spurs-ational
Anyway. Time for bed. Hope we've signed one or two players by the time I wake up. COYS
In-spurs-ational
I-S-A its nice to have a transfer plan full stop! lol Far happier with the sort of targets we're looking at this window and the way we're going about our business nice and early is a welcome change. Whoever we bring in I'll have faith in the manager, unless he starts Jenas in the PL opener lol
Spurs Allday
any of use seen pienaar at training? think his off to everton..
FifaKing
We need Modric replacement:one of Moutinho or Benat . That's the priority. Adebayor looks nailed on. Looks Carvalho is in so that's CB sorted out. If Lloris accepts us (hope he does) then that culd be GK sorted. If not we need to go after Vorm. That's leave out a Right wing forward. This is something AVB has to work out.
sydqcb5
Geurnman, we have first option. That holds true only if we match the highest offer . If chelski pay over market price there is nothing we can do
sydqcb5
Oscar's agent is Kia Joorabchian: Tevez agent. No wonder that he is after where the money is.
sydqcb5
I am very pleased with the happenings in the last 2 weeks. So glad we're not waiting to the last day to do our business. Also very happy we are not linked to only geriatric players. Exciting times. I'd be a little worried of the progress of the mighty SPURS if I were an opposition suppporter. Hope everything falls into place nicely for us. COYS, ILIT, IAVBIT :-)
Madaboutspurs
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11668/7885309/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter say bye bye to oscar... i bet u man u will get moutinho aswell...
FifaKing
Personally I wouldn't go after Oscar or Moutinho. I would look to sign MARCO VERRATTI of Pescara, who almost made the Italian Euro squad aged 19, who PSG are after and who is being called in Italy, the new Pirlo, as he is a deep sitting playmaker who has excelled in the 4-3-3 formation. Would cost about £10m
kernowboy71
I-S-A - regarding that bale story, its a non-story mate, it basically says via an espn source (not even a spurs one) that IF we were to recieve an £80M bid we would sell him... i think any club in the world would be tempted to sell one of their best players for that sort of money.
rahn DMC
If Oscar goes to Chelsea I can see their being some unrest in the dressing room...how many attacking mids can they take?

I'm not too fussed about who the Modric replacement is as he hasn't even left?....we still need strikers from 2 years ago!!!
Ade gives us one option but we need another out and out striker like Damiao, Lewandowski, Seydou Doumbia, Burak Yılmaz etc and another forward like sturridge/Remy/Hoilett...
shedboy2
@kernowboy71, http://www.goal.com/en/news/10/italy/2012/07/10/3232075/agent-verratti-to-sign-for-paris-saint-germain?source=breakingnews
FifaKing
FifaKing, that's an interesting story as I have just read another where the club have stated NO offers for either Daimao or Oscar have been received. Media like to create stories out of nothing, they dangle the carrot and mugs like us take it!!
yiddyboy
Why do we want Carvalho at 34 years of age in a Modric deal. If Madrid want him so bad let us have the guy he will replace in their team, that won't be Carvalho will it.
yiddyboy
yiddyboy, well his agent confirmed the offers from both clubs, so who do you believe... remember avb said in a portuguese newspaper "all lies" to spurs rumors..
FifaKing
my bet AVB wants Carvalho, i reckon he still has football within him...
FifaKing
FifaKing, thanks for your Oscar link. For another point of view (taken from Sky Sports as well but posted 15 minutes later) see http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7885411/?
In-spurs-ational
EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham to make improved £13.5m bid for Lyon goalkeeper & France No.1 Hugo Lloris
what_sux
In-spurs-ational, seen already, dunno who to believe...
FifaKing
FifaKing, I think all this means is that City are going to come in with a bid of £50m and pay him £200k a week not to play for them
In-spurs-ational
In-spurs-ational, most likely.. i have a feeling avb wanted him at chelsea (when he was coach there)... so now they are buying his targets...
FifaKing
KaKa as part of the exchange anyone?

Might even be a deciding factor when trying to entice the young Oscar, Damiao, Ganso etc...
RyanHotSpur
FifaKing, if Chelsea want to outbid us for Oscar, that's fine by me. Let them pay a premium and we'll buy someone else. RyanHotSpur, I'd take Kaka. He's obviously not the player he was, but I reckon with the right team around him, he could still shine
In-spurs-ational
From earlier on. rahn DMC I know the story is a non-story, although I'm hearing if we throw Bentley into the deal, then it's £70m
In-spurs-ational
RyanHotSpur, dunno about that one, depends if he stays injury free, would be a good addition but dunno how much Real gonna take out of the modric deal based on cash... In-spurs-ational, im afraid we are running out of targets (one's with potential)..
FifaKing
FifaKing, have faith. I'm sure we've got many more decent targets. The future is bright. The future is Lillywhite.
In-spurs-ational
I-S-A - and if you make jenas part of it i would say 50M tops ;)
rahn DMC
rahn DMC, I tell you what. If someone really did offer £50m for the trio, that might be hard to say no to
In-spurs-ational
I'd work it out as 49 for Bale, 3 for Bentley and -2 for Jenas
In-spurs-ational
NEW KIT!!!!
http://www.tottenblog.com/2012/07/new-kit-promo-material-leaked-home-away.html
MrPaddytheyid
there is no doubting Modric is a quality player but when up against the Man U's, red gooner scum, blue nose chelsea scum..... he was nowhere last season and how many goals does he score per season? So if he doesn't want to help the mighty cockeral crow next season let him score next to no goals elsewhere. The money we get for him would cover Moutinho no problem and if we have this war chest of 100 million (inclusive of sell ons) then get that bloody Torres from the scum! Given a run of games he would score bag fulls for us with the supply from midfield and our wingers
