Spurs have confirmed that Bongani Khumalo has joined Greek side PAOK on a season long loan.
25 year old Khumalo who signed from one of the clubs "partners" Supersport United, in January 2011, failed to make a single appearance for Spurs, and with so many quality centre halves at the club, it didn`t seem likely he would ever get a chance to prove whether he was able to cut it in the Premiership.
The fact that Harry Redknapp preferred William Gallas, Ryan Nelsen and a 40% fit Ledley King at the latter end of last season, when the back line were clearly short of pace, something that is supposedly a strong part of Khumalo`s game, was perhaps an indication that the rest of his game wasn`t quite good enough.
It is believed that Spurs paid £1.5m for the player, and though that now looks expensive based on his lack of success, we have to consider that the club have probably recouped loan fees from Preston and Reading and will obviously get something from PAOK and you assume there is an option to make the deal permanent next summer, so it is likely that any loss with be a small one and knowing our Chairman, we will probably make a small profit...

My guess is we're being kind to Khumalo by not rejecting him outright due to our alliance with SuperSport Utd. It would look bad if we took a player and he's on the scrap heap a year or two later. He probably has no future otherwise we'd want to test him out in the English leagues. We will now loan him out and probably sell for whatever we get in the next couple of windows.
There are two ways of looking at this: 1) Harry never looked beyond his fav 11, apart from Khumalo, Rose and Bassong only got a very brief look in before the Nelson joined us. And 2) if the guy is not good enough, we have only our scouts to blame.
