Khumalo loan confirmed.

Spurs have confirmed that Bongani Khumalo has joined Greek side PAOK on a season long loan.

25 year old Khumalo who signed from one of the clubs "partners" Supersport United, in January 2011, failed to make a single appearance for Spurs, and with so many quality centre halves at the club, it didn`t seem likely he would ever get a chance to prove whether he was able to cut it in the Premiership.

The fact that Harry Redknapp preferred William Gallas, Ryan Nelsen and a 40% fit Ledley King at the latter end of last season, when the back line were clearly short of pace, something that is supposedly a strong part of Khumalo`s game, was perhaps an indication that the rest of his game wasn`t quite good enough.

It is believed that Spurs paid £1.5m for the player, and though that now looks expensive based on his lack of success, we have to consider that the club have probably recouped loan fees from Preston and Reading and will obviously get something from PAOK and you assume there is an option to make the deal permanent next summer, so it is likely that any loss with be a small one and knowing our Chairman, we will probably make a small profit...

Another loan
Critical_Spur
I don't see much future for the lad if i'm totally honest.
RyanHotSpur
Let's reduce that wage bill. Just need to get a few more moved (sold/loaned) and our lean mean mahine can get to work.
Critical_Spur
Nothing interesting about this news except the hot bird in the picture .

Fifth? My highest ever post??!!
yearendsinone
@ yearendsinone, we don't do that anymore mate..
oxfordspur
as for it being another loan, I assume tho sis the best deal we could make. I hope there is an option to buy at the end, which might ever end up with us making more on the deal
oxfordspur
There must have been something about this guy originally? Surely not just a gimmick to gain favour with building a fan base in South Africans??
yearendsinone
I have it from Reading season ticket holders that he was a bit unlucky at Madesjki. The regular pairing stayed fit and formed a league winning partnership at the back and he was never going to be given a chance. They also said he didn't look great when he did play but also said that he played so rarely that they couldn't form a solid judgment anyway.

My guess is we're being kind to Khumalo by not rejecting him outright due to our alliance with SuperSport Utd. It would look bad if we took a player and he's on the scrap heap a year or two later. He probably has no future otherwise we'd want to test him out in the English leagues. We will now loan him out and probably sell for whatever we get in the next couple of windows.
muttley
If he does well in another league it gives us half a chance of selling him for a profit on the continent. Makes me laugh how late this official announcement was, the guys already played for them twice! lol
Spurs Allday
Watched him at the WC and thought he looked ok on a poor team. I always thought this was more about the partnership than about the player. Bassong is miles better. COYS

Another day goes by - where are our new signings ?
sydqcb5
peterballb What do you reckon will happen with Bassong? Other than Vertonghen he's our only natural left sided CB so surely it makes sense to keep him and try to sell one or two of the others instead. I now he's looked pretty shaky the past year or so but he is only playing 7-8 games so surely that's down to being rusty rather than a lack or loss of ability?
Spurs Allday
sydqcb5 Fryers should be this week, just waiting on a tribunal. Adebayor - No idea what's going on there, have heard this week but different places have different stories. Lloris - We're standing by our valuation and he's kicking up a stink that his club are pricing him out of a move. Lacelles - we're waiting for Forest to appoint a new manger so he can give it the green light. Carvalho and Moutinho seem to hinge on Modric leaving and the rest who knows whether any of them are even targets

I know its Goal.com but either way http://www.goal.com/en/news/90/france/2012/07/17/3248422/lyon-president-99-per-cent-sure-lloris-will-stay?
Spurs Allday
Apparently the deal for modric is around €40m rising to €45m with add-ons but we want €47m(including add-ons). If we get €47m then fair play to Mr Levy.

Ox, re: "The fact that Harry Redknapp preferred William Gallas, Ryan Nelsen and a 40% fit Ledley King at the latter end of last season, when the back line were clearly short of pace, something that is supposedly a strong part of Khumalo`s game, was perhaps an indication that the rest of his game wasn`t quite good enough."
There are two ways of looking at this: 1) Harry never looked beyond his fav 11, apart from Khumalo, Rose and Bassong only got a very brief look in before the Nelson joined us. And 2) if the guy is not good enough, we have only our scouts to blame.
Critical_Spur
Was always going to be well down the cb pecking order and whilst not on big bucks, more wages cleared and another squad place freed up. The loan to a decent Greek side will make or likely break him, but he at least has a chance to play and progress.
Windlespur
Starting to really like the club president of Lyon. He started with "Lloris wants to leave but any club must meet our €20m valuation by the 15th" then on the 14th he said "we've received no official bids and unless we receive €20m by tomorrow he will stay!" and now on the 17th he's saying "okay you've got another week ...... we still want €20m though" Levy will eat this guy for breakfast.

West Ham lost 1-0 to Oxford United(my dads team) lol get in!

I LOVE VDV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VDV IS A LEGEND !!!!!
redhotspur1234
This for a lot of people may not be such good news though. We have serious competition for Ase from Moscow, AND they are willing to pay his 170K per week ............................ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/9406913/Tottenham-Hotspur-facing-competition-for-the-signature-of-Emmanuel-Adebayor-from-Lokomotiv-Moscow.html
chrishove123
chrishove123 I know its not good news but he should come to spurs where he will be loved and Russia is Sh!t and he may get racially abused?? Ade come to SPURS!!!!!!!! :)
redhotspur1234
Everyone should give Ade nice messages on twitter to get him to sign!!! :)

Khumalo = Buy player, sell shirts, sell player.
Crissybwoy
Khumalo's situation highlights our scouting system's deficiencies.
Madaboutspurs
There is another point of Khumalo's signing.. Perhaps Daniel Levy had to do this as a show of good faith in the alliance with the S African club, and for future deals / Sponsor support... Harry did not want the player, just did not give the lad a real chance.. and did he play in Sherwood's side when he arrived?
Block D Spurs
Ade should be at spurs... Russians are known to be "difficult" about black players, and he could have serious problems there, armed bodyguards in case of abuse, kidnapping / ransom demands for example...Dangerous place for foreigners in Moscow, by all accounts..
Block D Spurs
"Khumalo was named in the South African squad for the 2009 Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup, both in South Africa. On 22 June 2010, Khumalo scored the first goal after 21 minutes against France as South Africa finished their World Cup campaign with a 2–1 win."
