Last night, probably wasn't a great night for Tottenham Hotspur, as Emmanuel Adebayor's Togo, a team that were initially banned from the African Cup of Nations, qualified for that same tournament, with a 3-2 aggregate win over Gabon. The competition which will be held in Libya from the 19th of January until the 10th of February, will of course be a bigger blow for many of our Premiership rivals, so perhaps it isn't such a nightmare scenario for Spurs, but losing arguably your most able No9, is hardly what AVB and his team would have wanted. On a positive nots for Spurs, but perhaps a sad one for Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Cameroon missed out on qualification after losing over two legs to Cape Verde, in what will be their first appearance in the finals, and would surely seem to be an upset.
Unless there is an injury to either Jermain Defoe or Clint Dempsey, I can't see the loss of Adebayor prompting Spurs to rush out and buy another striker, unless they were already planning to do so, but it will create a worrying few weeks without one of the current three, though that is something AVB has so far had to manage with throughout the majority of his time with the club. Perhaps the position of Harry Kane will be reviewed, due to this and also his current injury that has greatly restricted his chances with Norwich, but you would assume if he wasn't yet good enough for Norwich, the same would apply to Spurs...
