Thank you Ox. Now let's tear Maribor into pieces! COYS!
dcruzer
His been back 5mins and his already knackered one site beyond repair, it's those fat little fish fingers, guess who?
spu 4 life
lets see if we can go the whole day without breaking the fecking this this time ;-)
oxfordspur
Just pick COOPS TONIGHT his managed to tear everything else up :-)
spu 4 life
oxfordspur - let me try whether I can fecking break it this time ;-)

what_sux
''this'' is that a new anagram for site?
spu 4 life
This is the best VS article ever!! Coops you really are a leg'end mate.
T.H.F.Chris
coopsieyid - any chance you can go and pick the kids up, take the dog for a walk or have a bath?
spu 4 life
Thanks for the laughs lads. Breaking things can be fun, eh? Enjoy the game, and for the love of the Cockeral (No, not you, Big C) try some positivity for a change!!!
SpursEagle
Coops a legend, bell end and you've cracked it.
spu 4 life
what_sux, you could post the korean dance team doing Gangham Style...
spu 4 life
I don't get it. I mean don't attack me (though you probably will) but what is the obsession with Coopsie doo dah... You all pander around with your tongues out like some love struck poodle. It's actually quite sad. Perhaps Ox should change the name of the site to something more appropriate, like "Vital Coopsie". Feel free to delete my post if you wish with your random editorial wand.

what_sux
Coopsie, nice to see you back. You too, Spuds you like. Coopsie, I hope that all is well with Jade and the kids. You too of course. How goes the back? COYS
peterballb
Our starting team tonight is: Lloris, Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson (c), Naughton, Lennon, Huddlestone, Carroll, Bale, Adebayor and Defoe
what_sux
And our subs tonight: Cudicini, Gallas, Mason, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Falque & Livermore
what_sux
ITS A 4-4-2!!!! lolol
spurring you on
Sorry Cape Town I respect you a lot mate, but laying into us about Coopsie is a bit out of order. Better to say nothing bud.

Cheers peter & if any inspiration is needed for tonight:

Spuds-U-Like
That's pathetic, lets see if this ones any better:

Spuds-U-Like
WTF!??? No Pritchard or Ceballos!!?!! Come on AVB, these lads deserved it more than, Livermore, Dempsey, or Sigurdsson.
dcruzer
Oh, and if anyone's thinking of nicking it for an avatar, forget it. Its 100% mine & I'll bite the balls off anyone I catch using it! ;-)

Spuds-U-Like
Looking forward to finally seeing Ade and Defoe in a partnership! Also good news on Dembele, so should hopefully be back very soon.
El Jefe
dcruzer..Pritchard played 85 mins last night in an epic 1-4 victory in Barcelona for the U21s. Don't think he has sobered up yet. COYYS.

jacobslad
Good looking line up for tonight's win.
chrishove123
love the pics whatsux..probably a little too much for my wife's liking! I'm going 2-0, goals from Ade & Defoe. COYS
mountainyid
Interesting to see how young Caroll does. El Jefe im looking forward to see how our performance differs with 2 up top compared to 1.
spurfect one
Don't want to jinx it, but surely with the team put out we have too much for Maribor and should be a nice, comfortable routine victory. Will also be good to see young Carroll centrally with Hudd both distributing to the wings and up front.
El Jefe
4-0 best performance of the season tonight, defoe 2, ade 1, Hudd 1
coys1717
Nothing I have seen from Defoe and Ade suggests there is anything of a partnership there. Would rather see Dempsey with Adebayor. Whatever happens, we need to double or treble the production from the lads up front. 5 goals in almost 1000 minutes for Defoe is nowhere near good enough. COYS
peterballb
Spuds, I am not looking for a row with you or anyone else, and maybe your advice is good advice, bite your tongue. Seriously, I don't even have any nonsense with Coopsie, truth be told I think he's a funny guy, it's just the hero worship I find a little difficult. Anyhow, respect to all. On a side note, Jurgen next to Levy! AVB looks a very worried man.
Cape Town Spurs
Fantastic cross from Bale, he has been good so far!
what_sux
great cross. great goal.
Cape Town Spurs
If that was Brad, there would be another riot lol
spurfect one
oups. lloris could have avoided that.
logos8
I get the feeling it may be a while yet before we see Lloris as a regular starter in the league
Spursteve
Oh mine, Brad Friedel fanboys must be jumping in delight ;-(
what_sux
Stupid goalkeeping by Lloris. Suicide ball in the first place and then should have put his foot through it when it was returned. Not great by Naughton either.
muttley
Maybe Lloris is not this messiah everyone thinks he is?
IrishYid90
spurfect one spot on. I would have woken up in the middle of the night sweating remembering that goal with frustration if that would have been brad. Lloris messed up but I might forgive him this time :D
logos8
I can't even imagine if poor old Brad Fridel did such a stupid thing what this site would sound like now. Point taken as to why I have always defended Fridel and that is because Lloris has to make this his own spot not come in and expect that it is his. What he does for France at international level and in Lyon in a slow paced league means nothing to me. He is for the future but I can't imagine if Fridel made the same mistake what this site would sound like.
RagingSpur
oops Lets see who gets blaimed for that one. By the way did we send a completely different set of fans to WHL this week, its bizarre!!
underyid
The only winner in that half was Gomes :-)
muttley
that just decided Lloris's fate till January. No premiership starts for him.
logos8
Terrific first half ruined by Naughton and Lloris. At least we are now playing instead of walking around. Good movement, fullbacks pressing high, like what I see. Now score some goals in the second half.
Jables
For those claiming it's Lloris fault, yes he is, but Naughton should share 50% of the blame for the poor poor backpass.
what_sux
I thought AVB was a bad coach before but my goodness was I wrong he is even worse than I had thought he was in the first place. This is very poor and to think we sacked HR to get AVB...
RagingSpur
lets hope the french coach wsnt watching this, what was our keeper doi hy not play ball up the field instead he pays a ball putitg our LB under pressue and then he couldnt clear the ball, shocking for a so called high class keeper, BRAD exp would f thumped it up the field.
123spurs
F@ck NO, the only one at fault in that is Naughton, no one else. He must have been aware, when cornered you never pass back, you blast it forward....
dcruzer
what _sux all our eepr had to do wasjust kick it nt try an be samt an take the ball away from him, keeper fault.....WHAT IF BRAD DONE THIS lol
123spurs
logos8 u and a lot of people. One thing that impressess me about Lloris is his distribution. Ade is defo an upgrade on Dempsey, just seems to have that something extra, likewise Carroll for livermore.
spurfect one
Remember French are never wrong they will be fully blaming Naughton for this as Lloris is world class and can do no harm.
RagingSpur
who kicked the ball to naughton?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? in the 1st place
123spurs
It's a mistake!! FFS get over it lads!! Who really gives a toss who's fault it was?? Chin up and move along!!!
woodyn17
Agree what-sux - poor poor backpass compelled by pure stupidity on Lloris' part. Naughton should have played out if felt that threatened and Lloris on getting there ahead of the opposition player should have put his foot through it. A decent first half of attacking football completely ruined in the space of seconds by stupidity on the part of two players!
El Jefe
I will not slam avb anymore for not starting Lloris before Brad. Maybe there is a solid reason behind all that. what do we know ? Maybe this guy doesn't deserve to start yet...
logos8
prob brad fault for not lettin lloris enough game time lol
123spurs
if my LB gave me a ball like that to deal with i would be furious... still i think lloris could've done better... not as bad as freidals mistake on the weekend, and he is still by far the better keeper, although i think freidal has been wrongly slagged off too much on this site.
rahn DMC
Ragingspur How is this very poor? I think we have played quiet well. No manager can compensate for individual errors.
spurfect one
I hate to say it but i have been saying Lloris looks too nervy to be our no. 1 'keeper. That was a stupid schoolboy error he made to let them score. he should have just booted it out of play. If in doubt kick it out. The reason he seems so great for France is he's not under ANT pressure because he KNOWS there is no one else to challenge him for that place, here, he has to work for it and prove himself and it looks as if he can't take the pressure of having to compete for his place. It looks like we are stuck with BF for the foreseeable future ~I'm afraid. I really didn't think he would be this poor. How I wish HR hadn't destroyed Gomes the way he did.
chrishove123
To be fair, they both put each other under pressure with each pass made but both had opportunities to rectify the situation and neither took it. Both at fault really, although you could argue seeing as Lloris actually played two parts in it and he had the final chance to get rid off it, he was most at fault!
El Jefe
even though I am a Lloris fan I have to admit that if that would have been Brad, all hell would have broken lose around here :)
logos8
Bale playing out of his skin so far, Defoe great finish, Ade decent couple of touches and passes (what a turn and finish BTW shame was offside) and Carroll with a few decent passes!
El Jefe
RagingSpur He wasn't sacked, his contract wasn't renewed. There is a HUGE difference.
chrishove123
That sums it up perfectly El Jefe. Two wrongs don't make a right...or something like that.
jacobslad
Watch all the Lloris haters come out now!!! "He's not good enough", "He's too nervy" etc etc... The lad has made 1 mistake. He is fighting for top spot and under immense pressure. Give the kid a break FFS!! Bet you lot were booing Walker and Gallas at home last time aswell!!!
woodyn17
to hard t impress, to do what kick the effin ball away lol. our def had nothing to to do so why say we were less panicky lo what game are u watching
123spurs
WTF are you talking 'bout RagingSpur, you are so blooming pessimistic and irrational with your comment! Get a grip. 'Arry was a complete numpty, with no plan, just guided by empirical playing tactics and gut feelings. He would have never achieved anything without our past top players like Modric, VDV, and Kranjcar. NO ONE can achieve success overnight unless you are given everything under the sun to achieve it. AVB is true capable coach, and he has shown that he is active in learning from his mistakes and will get sharper as long as our players put their best efforts.
dcruzer
a new poll pls ox, who's faut, naughton lloris or brad?
123spurs
thfc1882whl The thing is this sort of thing SHOULDN'T happen with a world class 'keeper.
chrishove123
BigC Lennon provided two quality crosses from the left, nothing wrong with him. Bales been playing well but only good delivery was Defoe's goal.

We've got to wi this 4-1 to get some confidence, glad that wasn't brad or there would have been problems.
T.H.F.Chris
Can you guys stop posting your spank bank choices please! This site has enough trouble coping with the 21st century without video clips to deal with as well. :|
underyid
woodyn17 - I'm sure they want Friedel to be our #1 keeper for next 10 years ;-)
what_sux
All started from Lloris quick distribution!!!
woodyn17
woodyn17 I'm not a Lloris hater, I was pushing really hard for lloris to play as our no. 1 for ages, but after seeing him play over the last couple of games, he doesn't look as solid as he really should. He DOES look nervous and maybe it is because he is trying too hard. I'm a great fan of his as the France 'keeper but as i said he is under no pressure there and here it is a totally different ball game he HAS to prove himself.
chrishove123
Great finish!!
woodyn17
hat trick coming up!
T.H.F.Chris
Fantastic Carroll assist, boom and he's way ahead of Livermore in pecking order LOL
what_sux
Great pass by carroll
T.H.F.Chris
chrishove123 - I know mate. Just get really fecked off when we slate OUR players. I know its a forum so all is up for discussion and everyone is entitled to their views but we are ALL tottenham!!! Players and Fans alike!!
woodyn17
Amazingly refreshing performance to watch. And a 4-4-2, I can hardly believe it. My biggest concern this season was AVB clinging stubbornly to his 1 formation, and going down stubbornly with the ship like the Captain of the Titanic. Ade is looking his true quality. Hell I might even concede, after that Lloris gaff, that Friedal has been AVB's first choice for a justifiable reason. No doubt Lloris will rise to the challenge eventually, time is on his side, I just hope his patience is too.
VexSpur
lloris poor for there corner he was in no mans land he got luky
123spurs
Don't get mad at me for stating an opinion on AVB. He is the one at fault we are already out of the cup to Norwich. We have yet to win an Europa league game. All these tournaments that he claims he wants to go for and yet he has yet to get a single positive result in them. I kept my cool for a while but this is just getting embarrassing. Nobody is asking for overnight success these kind of games you need to expect to get something out of if you expect to have any ambition.
RagingSpur
Chrishove, Yes Harry was sacked! Are you sure you follow Tottenham?
RagingSpur
Without slating any of our players, and looking at it positively I am starting to think AVB could be playing the Lloris situation really well, slowly bringing him in to games that don't matter, that kind, or the Villa kind, or the Norwich kind of mistake in a high profile match and Lloris would be destroyed. Well done AVB.

What_sux totally second the Carroll/Livermore point.
T.H.F.Chris
To be honest Hudd has got so fat that he falls over now when he shoots.
RagingSpur
Referee is officially blind, biased or bribed.
what_sux
im sorry but this ref has made some very bad calls in the last five minutes
rahn DMC
nice to hear the crowd this game...
rahn DMC
Dawson playing well, very good distribution so far.
T.H.F.Chris
This referee is shocking. Is he trying his best to prove he isn't a 'home ref'?
Spursteve
This is why Ade is an upgrade on dempsey
spurfect one
great team goal... would love for us to move on from here, really up our goal difference!
rahn DMC
Haha, brilliant!!!
T.H.F.Chris
Have to say Huddlestone ball to Bale is quite good ;-)
what_sux
Superb hat-trick from JD
Spursteve
i really like Tom Carroll, hopefully he gets more games.
rahn DMC
Big C I know it's difficult but I hope you were out your seat giving the match ball winner the ovation he deserves ;)
T.H.F.Chris
Raging - we have looked like winning every European game we have played and just need that spine back - kaboul, Parker, dembele, fit adebayor. And anyway, we are winning, so why are you so anti avb tonight - because there is a y in the day ? Bale is truly world class and our one true match winner. Coys
Windlespur
lennon needs to improve his shooting part of his game, as much as i like him he could do a lot more and become a much bigger threat if he was more confident at shooting
rahn DMC
Tom Carroll is a better bet than Andy Carroll.
Cairnside Spur
Bale - world class.
Windlespur
Lennon is beyond s-h-i-t....how much longer do we have to witness his awful play around the box...he is awful
lillywhites101
I really hope Carroll has moved ahead of Livermore in AVB's thinking - he offers so much more to the team.
Spursteve
Looks like avb has been working hard on improving Dawson and he looked good tonight. Great heart and hope he adapts his style and learns from verts and caulker and gets better on the ball. Lennon very good defensively tonight, but agree, should be getting more goals.
Windlespur
Oh Oh! Everything turned upside down, Defoe Hat-trick, he's not going anywhere soon. Lloris error, Friedel choice looking not so insane.
But alas, some things never change right Raging! I hear Redknapp just sneezed, run along with a tissue won't you...
If Redknapp was Wenger, you'd be accused of being his little toy-boy. Is there anyone or anything about this team that you like? COYYAS
miamispur
Fz(k off lillywhites. seriously that is bang out of order you muppet.
T.H.F.Chris
So s-h-I-t he is getting a standing ovation, from proper fans mind you.
T.H.F.Chris
Eleven percent thought a Maribor win. Must be the booooo boys.
Windlespur
YAY !!! We WIN :-) Makes my day.
Madaboutspurs
i think we can all agree Carroll needs to start ahead of Livermore.
spurfect one
I only saw the very end of the first half and the second... but from what i saw that was the performance we needed, bar Naughton and Lloris. I would still like to see Lloris in goal on Sunday though, it's time he got a regular run of games, as a keeper it builds confidence and stability for personal performance and defensive performance as a whole.
rahn DMC
LOL AVB pushes Luis Martins!

http://images.4chan.org/sp/src/1352410971691.gif
what_sux
123spurs I actually thought Lloris did well in that corner because even knowing he had no chance of getting there he went for it because he knew he could put the player off just by coming for it and shouting his head off as he called for it. That was one of the things i was taught to do.
chrishove123
LOL AVB pushes Luis Martins!

what_sux
Jermaine Defoe...he's a YIDDO :-) Am I allowed to say that ? ;-)
Madaboutspurs
RagingSpur Still saying AVB is a bad coach???
chrishove123
123 to me he went for it and missed :D
123spurs
Madabout if the met say you can then you CAN.
chrishove123
what a push epic lol
123spurs
There are a lot of positives to take out of that performance and one negative. The biggest positive for me was how Adebayor showed both Dempsey and Siggy how to play the role between midfield and attack. He linked us superbly and joined up the play. That allowed Defoe, Bale and Lennon to step up their game. It also meant that when Hudd and Carroll had the ball they had more than on option.
muttley
chrishove123 - Don't blame 123spurs, at the split second he thought he is at Vital Friedel, not Vital Spurs ;-)
what_sux
Much better result and peformance but should have had five or six.Well done Defoe and Bale.Neat touches from Carroll but he's not a Modric but more effective than Livermore.Good to see Huddlestone stay on the pitch ...I wish he'd score to get rid of that weight off is head.He doesn't shoot any more.Dawson and Verts looked pretty secure. Why does Lenon NEVER SHOOT.He had two fantastic chances to break the net tonight and as usual chickened out. What is the MATTER with him?Huge game on Sunday against Man C.
wentworth
Did you see Gareth yawning during the interview. He must be loosing too much sleep with his new baby. Hope he sleeps well on saturday night with City on Sunday
Big Ron
haha brad wouldnt of got that far,
123spurs
Why did he push him?? So funny. He's really pumped , wasn't he. lol
Madaboutspurs
dempC and siggy are also trying there bes also
123spurs
What a take by Ade on the line and what a first time pass from Hudd.
chrishove123
chrishove, Are you really asking me if I am satisfied that we won? Yes, in fact I would have expected nothing other than a win against a team like Maribor. They couldn't beat a team who is 0-4 in CL action currently and 0 goals and 10 allowed in the group so I have expectations higher than AVB is making.
RagingSpur
naughton back pass was to hes left side so no excuses and im sure "world class keeper" should be able to kick from both feet
123spurs
I thought Dawsons distribution tonight was much better. A lot of the team that will play Sunday played tonight, I hope they recover in time because there was a lot of effort put in to win this match.
jacobslad
all the ppl on here who hate brad....tell me now ur reaction if that was brad in goal to nightand done what lloris did ?
123spurs
Good overall performance. Bale and Defoe great, Ade and Carroll good. Solid at the back apart from the obvious. Ade and Defoe is the way forward at the moment, not saying we will become world beaters with the two of them up front, but its our most dangerous and promising forward line. Cannot wait to get the likes of Kaboul, Ekotto, Sandro, Dembele and Parker back for selection then we will look a real team! AVB deserves a mention aswell for going attacking with a 442 and giving Ade a proper chance even though lacking match practise, indeed all that was missing from the victory was a goal for him, oh OK and maybe one for Bale aswell but we cannot have everything. Now forwards and hopefully a decent performance against City on Sunday although not holding my breath for much from that match but always look forward hoping for the best!
El Jefe
Correct bigc, but maybe some will understand why he is being integrated a little more gentle to learn about our game and also for our guys to learn about his. The alternate was seen with degea disaster. Plus, friedel has been good. Lloris will be our regular, all in hood time. In the meantime, accept the odd mistake and support brad.
Windlespur
traffie must still be bad in north london, half the crowd left before the 4th official put 4 minutes up
123spurs
Big C - well said, it's always vital for the defenders to know what footed the keeper is, saves a lot of confusion, yes Lloris should've cleared but after watching the reply several times i have to say that was an awful pass and it's more naughtons fault. However both are good players and i would start both against city, unless BAE is fit but i doubt it...
rahn DMC
123spurs And what if it had been Gomes in goal
chrishove123
Raging it wasn't just the win, it was the way in which we won that counted as well. We won with style tonight, and I for one am really happy for AVB as well as the team as a whole. Just think how it will be when we have the whole first team back together which is something you tend to be blind about in your dislike for AVB.
chrishove123
AVB is his own man. Because of that mistake he might actually start Lloris on Sunday to rebuild his confidence.
jacobslad
what_sux LOL
chrishove123
Much better! right across the park....was happy with the team selection, well done AVB...Bale was electric going forward, lennon was electric tackling back! never switched off, Daws won everything in the air and good distribution, Naughton had a good game apart from the sloppy back-pass (was just like watching benny), for those comparing Lloris/Brad we'd have already been 1-1 if Brad had been in goal as Hugo cut out a tap in at the far post that Brad would have been routed to his line for...but you still miss the point Hugo is our number1 if we feck around come the end of the season we won't have a number1! Give hugo a run of 72 games before you judge him, and at least 10 before you dare critisize..;) Thud and carroll both played well, both had their moments, defoe took his chances, Ade needed the work out....all in all good night....now let's take the swagger to City as they are there for the taking at the moment....
shedboy2
gomes he could of got a hand to it, but if he kicked it it would of been in the stand
123spurs
@rahn DMC who gave the aweful pass to naughton in the 1st place
123spurs
All those criticising Defoe for being selfish and not defending, well tonight he was passing and going back to defend, I felt he had an awesome game as well as the hat trick.
chrishove123
chrishove123, I'm not blind I have watched enough football in my life to know this team has hardly done a thing this year. When do we have a starting 11 that is healthy?! Not in the last 5 years have we had a starting 11 in full health on a consistent basis whether it was King or Woodgate! Huddlestone or Dawson! Kranjcar, Pienaar, or Bale fighting for fitness. Modric out with a broken leg...ect! When in football do you have a team with perfect health to rely on? Pretty much NEVER! This is the point of having a larger squad is to fill for these issues because the day you are wishing for will maybe come and last for a very short time of when everyone is healthy and in form.
RagingSpur
123spurs, it wasn't great but naughtons was worse... look, both are the culprits but both are reasonably new in the team (that doesn't make it an excuse obviously), both could really benefit with back to back game time, especially lloris. He is the future and i really think the defence will look a lot more solid after a couple of games with him at the back.
rahn DMC
Bale is a Monster. If we want to progress in the next few years, we have to try our darnest to keep him. We need to hang on to our best players. Levy can do his bit by getting a couple of top class players in during Jan2013, thereby showing some proper ambition and increasing our chance of attaining CL status next year. I won't hold my breath though.
Madaboutspurs
Good performance overall. Defoe was clinical, Bale immense, and young Caroll growing as the game went on was lovely to see. As for our goal conceded? Sh*t happens. Apart from that, Naughton had a good game, and remember, he's a natural right back (which I feel was the reason he had no option when he received Lloris' pass). Lloris will be our no 1, but now I hope all the Friedel haters (how many of you posted that you will turn your back on AVB if he kept refusing to pick him) will give him a break now. This will sort itself out in time. Brad has not done enough wrong to be shunted, and Hugo hasn't done enough to earn the no1 spot yet, but he will, so have patience. Also, gotta give a shout out to the 1882 lads. Tried to drum up an atmosphere from the very first minute. You've earned your beers and more, lads! Hope this movement gets stronger and stronger ... Oh, and great touch in calling out for AVB to give them a wave at the end. I could be wrong, but is that a first this season? Anyway, tough trip away at the weekend ... COYS!!
SpursEagle
Wonder what are our odds for a WIN this Sunday?
Madaboutspurs
I'm glad for Defoe to have a goodnight and score a hat trick but if you actually have a clue about Defoe and his career we can go down the line of his goals and this is nothing out of the ordinary. He scores vs bad teams and if you want to defend Maribor as a good team then let's face the fact you have a small club attitude. I'm not being arrogant but if you cannot beat the likes of these teams you have no issue of fighting for more. We all know Defoe can score in the 442 and we all know he can bag goals vs weak opposition and in bunches.
RagingSpur
Support was immense WELL DONE TO THOSE WHO WERE THERE TONIGHT.
chrishove123
defoe great 3 finishes
123spurs
Yep. A big WELL DONE to the supporters at WHL. Good job all round.
Madaboutspurs
RagingSpur Well if you CAN see that then get off AVB's back, because he has a very limited amount of players to choose from and a lot of them were players that HR wouldn't even consider playing.
chrishove123
RagingSpur So HR was a (rap manager because he couldn't beat norwich and WBA. The norwich game lost us 3rd place which by the way was absolutely nailed until he let the team go to $hit.
chrishove123
well, defoe once again shows he can score against crap opponents, however I must say that he is showing tiny signs of become a better team player and he did take his goals well today. adebayor needs to feature though, he can play the second striker role perfectly but needs to be first choice if we play one against city. I guess after his hatrick defoe will not be dropped though. with the keepers i think this whole situation is crazy and puts enormous pressure on lloris. he should be first choice no question, we paid 12 million for a top international keeper who now finds himself fighting to usurp a 41 year old. You can see that it is beginning to effect lloris and he is actually losing confidence at our club. absolutely ridiculous IMO. The mistake today looks worse because most of us are naturally right footed, whereas lloris is not so the ball was very awkward for him. still a mistake though unfortunately for him. biggest positive of the night was tom carroll, especially for that modric-esque pass to defoe. hopefully he will feature much more because he really is a top talent
Guernman
chrishove, AVB has yet to even get that high on the table...
RagingSpur
Raging THIS is from the Spurs and AVB hating media. .....................The renaissance of Jermain Defoe continues apace. A striker once consigned to the periphery at Tottenham turned in a bravura performance in his leading role, scoring a consummate hat-trick that rekindled his club’s Europa League ambitions and underlined his own reputation as one of this country’s most lethal centre-forwards. Say no more.
chrishove123
RagingSpur AVB has only been here not even half a season with less than half the team HR had at his disposal, so I think that AVB has done a damn sight better than HR to get us where we are with what he HAS got.
chrishove123
I just read Bale's post match comments '...everyone wants to be playing Champions League but this is the next best thing. We want to do our best in this tournament...'. Let's just say that Bale would not want to be doing the 'next best thing' year after year. btw, Love the clip what_sux. Very distracting. lol
Madaboutspurs
Guernman I was a left forred 'keeper for about 35 years, you have to learn to be able to use both feet, no use in a top world class 'keeper whining about he played it to my wrong foot.
chrishove123
footed LOL not forred
chrishove123
Bottom line is the jury is still out for me on AVB. However, I am all too happy to give him plenty of time to show us what he's got. I am contented with how we're doing in the last few months. No doubt room for improvement are aplenty. We need our players to come back from injury pronto and we need some reinforcements in Jan2013.
Madaboutspurs
Just back from the game, pleased with the performance and even more pleased with the crowd, loved the "We sing what we want". Right from the start you could see and hear that the crowd was going to support the team whatever the result, thank you boys (and girls) you have restored my pride in being a Tottenham Hotspur fan. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
Guernman, give it a rest mate. Until Lloris earns his place, Friedel remains no 1. It's called a healthy competition for places. He'll get there, just have some patience. It's like SRV is blue in face from saying: We don't know what AVB and the other coaching staff see day to day in training. He simply might not be ready to take over from Brad. Give it some time
SpursEagle
Chrishove, I wouldn't waste any keyboard taps on raging, he prophecised that AVB would be a failure and nothing would give him more pleasure if that was to materialise.
ItalianYiddo
I look at Lloris as a long term upgrade but not only that in the short term he has improved Fridel to be on his toes that he has yet to slip up and has stepped his game up since Lloris enter WHL. Thats that good competition we need in all positions.
RagingSpur
Raging yeah OK i got it wrong he was sacked, same sort of mistake Lloris made tonight t. LOL At least I CAN admit I am wrong unlike some people eh.
chrishove123
RagingSpur That is one thing I agree with you on, since lloris got here BF HAS upped his game and is actually coming off his line a bit and going for more balls than he used to. Good to be able to agree on something, and yeah I see HL as a long term replacement BUT to me IMHO he just doesn't look ready to take over just yet.
chrishove123
ItalianYiddo -- That atmosphere was down to the 1882 movement. Set up by like minded fans to sit together and sing for and support the team. Hope they continue to grow and prosper as that can only benefit our club, and create a killer atmosphere at the Lane
SpursEagle
Thanks Italianyiddo and also Block D for doing your bit at the game. Cheers :-)
Madaboutspurs
Raging, u are so boring. We did not play the best team in Euro but we played 2 up front, the Rednips style! Thank`s Arry!
dannylane
1882 MUCH KUDOS TO YOU.
chrishove123
well said spurseagle. I ws just going to come on here and give a big shout out to the 1882 Movement. I listen to the fighting cock podcast and they are always going on about it and the lads on that have really got the ball rolling with it. Singing at games is infectious. If a few start before you know it everyone is
Chirpystheman
Yeah, I first came across them on YouTube, They were at a NextGen game, singing for the kids. You can't get more diehard than that! Well done to everyone else who joined in too. Atmosphere at home makes a huge difference.
SpursEagle
Thanks for that SpurEagle, it shows what can be done when fans unite for the good of the club, there was no sign of the poisonous atmosphere of recent games tonight.
ItalianYiddo
Back to the team, I thought Carroll was a major plus point tonight, I think in the absence of Dembele he should start at the Etihad.
ItalianYiddo
Interesting call, ItalianYiddo. We aren't blessed with options there at the moment. with all our injuries. Would be a brave call, but I won't slate him or AVB if it didn't work out. Maybe it's worth a try throwing him in at the deep end. My biggest worry is missing Sandro and Parker, that type of player who can stop Toure's marauding runs.
SpursEagle
Just for the record, people on here saying we played 4-4-2, that is incorrect, it was 4-4-1-1 which isn't the same thing. Ade was playing behind Defoe in the role Dempsey has been playing and how well he played it. He ran his socks off, he was everywhere, always making himself available. Ade's contribution was just as big as Bale's and Defoe's but in a different way and not so outstandingly noticeable.
Hot_Spur
Ade was immense tonight. His movement allowed space for the others. carroll looks good, but needs to do bulk up his legs. Its ok to be skinny up top, like Modric, you need lower body strength.
Tactically Challenge
Would love to see a 3 man midfield of Carroll, Livermore and Mason in the PL. Perhaps against Southampton at home. Barca and Ajax who?!
Tactically Challenge
lets just say lloris had a bad day at office, as in PL is a diff ball game he has'nt filled me with confidence tonight
123spurs
Yep, pleased with the result and the performance. My observations being:

1) It was great to see Bale what he does best, i.e., terrorise the defenders on the left. I personally think he returned to that role today because we had two strikers on and more or less played 4-4-2, what I was hoping/wanting against Wigan last weekend. 2) It is obvious that lennon cannot take on defenders when playing on the left and he still lacks confidence to shoot. 3) I would still play Lloris as his mobility/agility gives me greater confidence. 4) Whilst both Corroll and Naugton did quite well, most of the time they took simple/safer options with their passes, except that outstanding assist from Carroll. 5) With Ade in the team I felt relaxed with our possession 6) It is clear that Daws has been conditioned by AVB in that his hoofs were few and far between and distribution good. A good composed performance.

Finally, I am not sure what AVB would've learnt from tonight's perfomance as I expect his usual line-up and formaion on Sunday!!
Critical_Spur
We cant be too harsh on lloris he's clearly not 100% with not playing and imo should be our number one. What really REALLY chaps my asshole s how certain people are so forgiving for their "favourites" and so overly critical of their fall guys. Freidel clearly shouldnt be our number 1 but hes been one of our best players this season. Yet Big Racist would have you believe that he's been a disgrace. Talk about a fall guy. Yet Lloris makes a clanger and its quote " In Naughton & Lloris i trust .Both good players who are trying their best ,i can respect that " What a laughable poster
HuddersfieldYiddo
Anyways was great to See Bale looking so sharp tonight, he was electric. COYS
HuddersfieldYiddo
Thanks Madaboutspurs, happy to see people like my clips, will always add more if there is new one :-)
what_sux
Anytime what_sux. Your clips help to break up the monotony of discussions about the round ball. I like distractions. There was a time 2 years back when the posters were sharing jokes left right and centre. There were some gems there. However, a few posters (minority as usual) kick up a fuss about how this is a football forum and not a jokes site and next thing you know...football, football, football Zzzzz.
Madaboutspurs
A bit like when people were complaining about 1st posters (banned!) and even Coopsies ITK's (I thought some were hilarious). Hey I'm all for a bit of light hearted fun. Still, I like this site.
Madaboutspurs
great game tonight. I thought Bale, Ade and Defoe were fantastic tonight. Everyone played well, even Hudds!. I'm sure Naughton has learned from his mistake. Good to see the players enjoying the game too
mountainyid
Great game from Carrol tonight, if wiltshire is ready for England again Carrol should be starting against Sweden!! lol. I thought Ade made the difference to our offensive play, suddenly Defoe and Bale looked really dangerous again!! Come on AvB its defoe with Ade playing behind now in the league as-well!! COYS
WestStandEnclosure
If we are looking for a top striker this January, Jackson Martinez seems to be a hot demand currently. He is labelled as the next Falcao despite same age lol. Not sure whether we can get him, seems Porto has slapped a big transfer clause on him.
what_sux
was at the game as usual, raging u know nothing,34,000 people singing avb"s name, real supporters, not ones like you who just slag em off. were brilliant tonight,...you should get to watch em live one day .!!!
darrel999
I know Cape Town, I was just a little surprised as I didn't think the welcome back was OTT myself, thats all mate. Keep soaking the rays chap.

Spuds-U-Like
I thought last night overall was impressive. OK, Naughton and Lloris made a mess out of their goal, but what I liked most about Lloris was when he gifted the goal he didn't change to route one football, he maintained his normal game which is retaining possession. Most players would just panic after that incident and just get the ball as far away as possible, the fact that he can play football and pass is a massive asset. Everyone makes mistakes! I thought Ade played very well, even when he missed the target from 4 yards (in my booked that's as bad as the Lloris mistake!!). Bale was great, even if the ref didn't think so. Defoe delivered so top marks. The other outstanding player for me was Tom Carroll, who looked far more composed and settle compared to the last time out. Made it was nerves before, but I do see potential in this guy albeit yesterday was against a fairly weak opponent. Man of the match award goes to ------ The fans, what an atmosphere. Isn't it strange how the mood created by the fans assists with the performance on the pitch. Take note all!!
yiddyboy
Great atmosphere last night. The attacks in the media by Peter Herbert and his cronies seemed to unite us in our determination to sing loudly and proudly. Particulary enjoyed "Were Tottenham Hotspur; We'll sing what we want", though perhaps the words should be "We live in a free society and as long as we don't cause offence, we are entitled to call ourselves whatever we choose, rather like white people calling themselves black lawyers". But that's a little less catchy! COYS
ParkLane67
Bale was tearing them apart last night, he was immense. Carrol had a great game. Some of those passes he made were world class, I just wished he bulked up a little. Ade, did you see the difference the guy made? Able to work in a slightly deeper role, as well as a target man. I was screaming for him to bag a goal by the end (which he more than deserved), he has to play at the weekend against his old club. Defoe, well played for his hatrick, he and bale are very competitive toward each other but this worked to their benefit last night. Good decision to take him off for Dempsey after his third, just to give him some rest. Generally the rest played well but poor old Naughton. He looked nervy so was playing it safe and kicking the ball out down the left, then when he actually needed to, he plays a through ball to their player. He can learn from that so no biggy this time. Lloris I thought played well, distribution was good but could have walloped the ball for their silly goal – Again I would have saved him for the weekend. AVB thumbs up! And now has seen yet another formation he can use later in games or from the start if he so wishes. The next game is a bigger test, and one I would love us to go all out for. COYS.
SpursOne2
Looks like it turned into the Asian x factor on here last night ha
SpursOne2
Good game overall yesterday. Though Naughton & Lloris made mistakes, I rather feel confident with them playing than Friedel & Walker. Every time , I see Walker getting the ball,I see him giving it away.
sydqcb5
As for as City, we need to field the same front 4 Ade, Defoe, Bale, Lennon. While its look like a 4-4-2, to e we can still play 4-4-1-1 with Ade behind Defoe. This means Defoe is always in the box waiting to pounce and Ade can take in the long balls & short passes & hold it and distribute. Ade in this formation is better than Gylfi & Dempsey put together.
But the key player for us would be Sandro. With Silva recovering from injury &possibly start against us, we badly need him.
sydqcb5
dcruzer - You have a pop at raging for slagging AVB, who you like, then slag off Harry, who he likes. Your no better in doing that at all. Sticking up for the new coach in one hand, then slag the old one who did really well for us in the other. Bull*****e post. And Raging - Next time you want to criticize AVB, how about watching the game first? "We have yet to win an Europa league game. All these tournaments that he claims he wants to go for and yet he has yet to get a single positive result in them. I kept my cool for a while but this is just getting embarrassing." Actually, your just embarrassing yourself by jumping in with that...
SpursOne2
JD definately looks better playing off Ade & he's more productive than being on his own as last night seems to prove. Having said that, I'd play Ade on his own against $h1tty & give JD a rest on the bench.

Spuds-U-Like
I don't think Lloris had much choice SO2, the ball from young Kyle was so bad. Looking at the replays, even if he'd tried to welly it I reckon it would've hit Beric & probably gone in anyway. I thought he tried the only option he had really & shouldn't be blamed at all.

Spuds-U-Like
Spuds-U-Like - Its debatable mate, and i think he could have smashed strait back at Naughton, but into the crowd behind him, kept running and told Naughton what he did wrong! I 100% agree that it was a terrible back pass thou. Its an error for both of them, they need to take it on the chin and move on. Lloris is finding his feet with new line up in front of him yet again, Naughton is still young and will bounce back. That kind of mistake is one they will want to learn from and put behind them. COYS.
SpursOne2
Highly debateable SO2 mate, but not worthy of more than we've already mentioned as its a side issue really. As you say, Lloris will take it on the chin as he proved last night by carrying on as if it hadn't happened & young Naughton's probably made bigger errors than that & I'm sure it won't affect him.

Spuds-U-Like
Lloris was more of a reaction. He definitely wasn't expecting it but suddenly had to deal with it. Ithink the fact he tried to keep possession shows that he is a true sweeper keeper at heart. Naughton, though, had time to consider his options before playing the backpass, so i place let's see, maybe 85% of the blame on him. lloris was good in everything else, so no real worries for me
spurring you on
Big C.. Harry and his new agent tried to stick it to Levy with a £1m wages increase on the 1 year left of his signed contract... after turning down the new extension Levy offered Harry in Feb. when he was looking at the England job....and this is solid info. from my ITK source who knows Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis...
Block D Spurs
Lloris mistake exactly shows what he has got to adjust. In PL, strikers run after lost causes in an attempt to induce a mistake. A keeper who is brought up in England would know that clearing the line is the first & foremost. I am not saying Maribor strikers played like PL strikers, in yesterday's case it was simply a case of player who would have been other wise offside by 5m was close to the ball due to back pass. Good thing is, it is a mistake that is clearly can be learned from. It is good tht he didnt make this mistae in PL,it is good that we won the game comfortably. I would say learn from it & move on.
sydqcb5
Wrong, wrong call wanting to go 4-4-2 against the title holders or any top four team away from home. Two up top sounds threatening but it rarely works against top sides because they will stop the supply to the opposition strikers, AVB will not go 442 away at city. I refer to two games where managers went 442 away, Newcastle against us, 5-0 loss and Arsenal away 5-2 win for the home side. COYS
ItalianYiddo
I just watched the clip again Spuds - I still think, imo, there was some space to whack it clear, but the blame has to go to Naughton...the ball he laid back was slow and bobbling along, the striker must have though Christmas had come early ha.
SpursOne2
Yeah side issue! Good result but more important, a team performance all around.
SpursOne2
after seeing our performance last night... Lloris made a mistake on that pass from Naughton.. both are short of match sharpness, hence errors... we played well as it was 35 mins before Maribor got a corner against us... Ade warmed up a bit in 2nd half, and we all saw what was missing upfront.. he did well in last 25 mins... Jermaine "offside" Defoe.. took his goals well, but still needs to look up and pass to team mates in better position as we could have scored 4 or five... So big improvement on prev. home games this season..
Block D Spurs
Agree ItalianYiddo
SpursOne2
Adebayors disallowed goal was a shame, absolute quality that turn and chip. This weekend could be really tough so may as well enjoy this win ha. COYS.
SpursOne2
Not sure why people are saying Lloris needs to adjust after that mistake, I'm sure in his career he has had to deal with nuff back passes, whether it was passed to his left or right side, (and it was to the left in this instance), he and Naughton made a mistake, how it goes sometimes, lets just call it how it is, and stop protecting our favourites, yes Lloris should be our No1, and he will be, but wanting this doesn't mean we have to disrespect Freidal.
Ossie
TOTALLY AGREE with sydqcb5.... i'VE SAID FOR AGES THAT aDE AND dEFOE TOGETHER 'UPFRONT' IS NOT REALLY A 4-4-2 BUT MORE A 4-4-1-1..... Ade is the key to this team and gives us another dimension with the high outball as well as linking the play between the midfield and opposing backline, both Ade and Defoe suit this system so well and we should continue with this now, even when ahead we just didnt look undder pressure like we usuallly do, as Ade gives us the ultimate outball option and then we get the wingers countering at pace, its the perfect antidote to our usual look of collapsing when ahead and the opposition press forward.... is Dempsey really any better at being the '5th midfielder' better than Ade ??..... take heed AVB, youve stumbled upon the winning formula for this team now, don't blow it
Viyyash-Ramosh
Simply a good game for Lloris to make a mistake, no harm done, no major confidence loss and he will learn from it, so All Good.
Windlespur
We saw more of the Spurs we love and imo that was down to two key factors. Ade alongside Defoe and Carroll doing a similar job to Modric even though of course he is not as good as Modric but he is in the same mould with regards to how he is trying to play. Keeping the ball moving his off the ball movement with small passes but he added some good long passes and some creative play. he isn't going to be as good as Modric at the moment but he made a difference and he has a bright future if he continues to get game time and when he bulks up that will help.

If we had Sandro instead of Hudd and BAE back we would have been even better. also Dawson played better than Gallas in recent games. As for Lloris he hasn't proved himself yet he doesn't look like a no 1 for Spurs yet which may be due to lack of game time or nerves or it may be that he doesn't really feel at home home yet and are we sure he even wanted to come? Either way the GK situation will resolve itself with time we will find out if Lloris wants to be our no 1 and if he is good enough because Fredal will not be here next season. It is early days for Lloris and AVB is right in being cautious.
