I'm sorry, but I really feel that I have to…

It probably isn't the most long-sighted thing for a rival fan to do, but it seems to be, too big an opportunity to miss out on…

In recent times or even decades, Spurs have been the butt of so many jokes and abuse from Arsenal and Chelsea fans, that I feel it only right and proper that we have a chance to have a laugh at their expense, even if this jokes ultimately prove to be short lived. The sight of Arsenal fans leaving their stadium early, after another humbling defeat to Swansea. That leaves them with only two wins from their last ten domestic games, though we ought to remember that one of those was a little painful for us.

As for Chelsea, you almost couldn't make it up. They sack the manager who brought them the Holy Grail of the Champions league and who started the season playing some of the most attractive football since the arrival of Mr Abramovich. Sadly for the legendary Italian, he wasn't doing it quickly enough or quite how the owner would have liked it. It is obvious to everyone but a certain Russian that Fernando Torres couldn't score in a brothel, but he did pay £50m for him, so he must be right and the whole world must be wrong.

The managerial tactic of Wenger selling one and buying three, again appears to have massively weakened the side and seeing them in 10th, has to be a nightmare scenario that could hardly get any worse, until they hopefully slip up again against a WBA side that will really fancy their chances next weekend.

As for Chelsea, could Rafa be their shortest termed manager yet? Today we read that they are considering appointing Avram Grant in some sort of advisory role between Rafa and the board. Now thats bound to work…. What odds on Mr Grant being the interim manager himself before Jools Holland plays his first note on New Years eve?

Of course it could all end happily for our beloved rivals, and they with the Manchester's could all remain happily settled in the top four places in May and it could be us that are crying in our beers at another wasted season and having an inept manager, a board that doesn't invest and players that are rubbish. But I for one, fully intend to at least smile at my clubs fortune and the current ineptitude of others, after all it could all be so different this time next week….

there are fundamental differences this season which i'm at pains to point out.......for all his fantastic work at the club,we don't have a manger looking to jump ship for a national coaching job,no court case either.we still have good injured players to come back into the team,jermain defoe,ADE possibly not going to the ANC.the january transfer window,(please buy at least 1 decent player,levy!).no van persie for the arse and chelseas' wheels seem to have come off.i could go on but that's enough to be getting on with.*departs with a sly sadistic grin on his face.*

We need to mention Lloris, its no coincidence that since he is playing every week we now have more confidence at the back and still have 2 French speaking defenders to come back. Defoe looks class at the moment. Long may it continue.

I agree with AVB.... we certainly dont need to add new players in Jan. (if Kabs, Parker, BAE return) and upset the apple-cart and team-spirit... 2 from Ade, Defoe and Dempsey 'upfront' is fine.... if a BIGNAME forward comes in, the system will break down as the other strikers will disengage and think 'why bother'..

Last season we had 34 points from our first 15 games. AVB only has 26 and is therefore way off the pace. Let's do an Abramovich and fire him. I'm sure Sven or King Kenny can come in until the end of season at which point we will obviously get Pep or Jose :-)

Last two seasons were different for us. We were flying high, even sitting 3rd last december but we failed to keep momentum and ended up 5th and 4th, both positions that led us to play Europa League when Champions League was at our doorsteps should we kept pace. Though it hurted my soul being defeated by Chelsea at the Lane, on a saturday Bale and Dembele didn´t play and also being defeated by Arsenal in a match we could have won if Adebayor could have kept his head cool, I didn´t think, for a milisecond that our season was lost because we saw the damage we can do to ourselves comes feb/mar/april but also because we witnessed Arsenal´s ressurgence last season when lots of pundits (we included) have already declared them dead. Everton, WBA and even Chelsea had started this season firing in all their cylinders and now are geting trouble to keep their assault on Top Four positions. I simply prefer us to start slowly, given Modric´s and Van der Vaart´s departures, given AVB´s arrival, but to finish strongly. Players like Sigurdsson and Dempsey are yet to find their place at Spurs. I think it is not that far away and when it happens, two "new" signings will emerge. I don´t mind Arsenal´s and Chelsea´s misfortunes as long as we keep our momentum growing.

People in glass houses and all that... I would add what a disgrace Chelscum are to the PL! RA is proving why him and Chelscums dealings are mostly controversial and bordering cynical! I would not blame their fans if they actually took it apon themselves to get RA out of the club. RA is a gangster and will always conduct his business behind shady curtains. Chelscum are in danger of imploding, I give Benitez 2 weeks and RA will have his head. I just hope that they continue to fall as far as the leagues will take them!

Despite people thinking we have players coming back, we're still 2/3 players away from being a title challenger. Imagine having a Huntelaar or Moutinho in the squad, with cover for Lennon / Bale. We still need to spend some money in Jan / Summer 2012

agree with Yido T about the impact made by Lloris. For instance, the point blank save he made in the first half was quite simply UNBELIEVABLE! how did he manage to save that? it had goal written all over it and the poor fulham striker just couldn't believe that his goalbound shot was saved. Had that gone in it would have been a different game all together.

Todate 3 teams sit on 26 points in 3rd 4th & 5th, next comes the 23 point brigade, we are 10 points off Man Utd and 7 points off Man City. Forget what the others are doing or not doing and let's keep our feet on the ground, this league can change very quickly, from one bad result, as much as it can from one good result. We have all said it's a slow progression, so lets just keep progressing and getting the right results along the way, i have always been behind AVB, he works on systems, he work on tactics, someone has been working with Bale regarding his free kicks because, is that not the first one scored in a long, long time, hitting AKA Ronaldo style under the ball and with AVB to finish, he still has 3 more top players to return, so his some way off even knowing what his best team is yet.

Arsenal are just going through a bad patch on the pitch IMO. They'll be OK unfortunately. Chelsea though are in a very precarious situation. Unhappy fans, Bad results, controversial/unwanted manager, about to get knocked out of the CL and hopefully financial fair play rules on the horizon. The dream of pep is messing RA up.

That club was absolutely nothing prior to abramovich coming in, so those chav fans who are now moaning about the way he runs HIS club, after all the money he has put in, need to have a good think about it. They are now considered one of the biggest clubs in the world, which is incredible for a team that the majority of people outside of the UK had never heard of 10 years ago.... neymar it seems like an unbelievable save because we got used to watching an aged 'keeper who is a bit passed his sell by date. If we had Gomes playing, then tˍose sort of saves would be commonplace, but then again so would some people would claim his clangers, but I feel AVB can sort that side of his play out. All he needs is his confidence rebuilt and what better way than to go out on loan.

Plus, december will be the test for our Club as to see if we can really rely on the squad we currently have. Now perhaps it should just be a young players like wolfswinkle and allow him this season to settle in with a few cameo's but our forwards (have to say that as Clint is patently not a striker) are all approaching the twilight of their careers...as for Parker you didn't have to be Doris Stokes to see he was going to breakdown and at 32 he really can not be relied upon going forward...

we have reinforcements, but I dont think reinforcements are what yous are looking for.... you want BIGNAME ALPHA-MALE STARS that will supplant the likes of Ade and Defoe.... if you spend 25m on an overhyped Damiao, its not to 'reinforce' the team, its to play him from Day.1..... if Bale's out, then play Siggy and/or Townsend - isnt that what having more than 11 players in the squad for ???

A Zaha to cover the wings, a pjanic to add some creativity and a huntelaar or a wolfswinke wouldnt set us back much more than £30m and it strengthens to spine of the team and the depth of the squad. Jerome and Pulis do not get on.... when Jerome plays recently (1-2yrs) its been out wide and not his natural position.... di Santo is v.young and has played alot of sub appearances... I can't believe I have to explain these facts to ppl who claim to follow the Prem.... Jerome is an exceptionally-gifted forward who can play well centrally or sometimes wider... in a footballing side like Spurs he would thrive...di Santo is gonna be a v.good striker and will play for Top4 team within 3yrs tops.

I'm thinking of buying decent backup that could yet develop into 1st-teamers when Defoe (30yrs old) maybe even Ade leave... but lets be hnest eh, when most fans want January signings they aren't looking for reserves, they want BIG NAMES... we have no need for any 1st-team replacements at all, they are all good enough to play at least 1 more season together... anyone costing more than 10m in Jan. simply cannot be considered as backup.

AVB knows he can still improve Spurs without spending fortunes. He can get Dawson and Gallas off the wage-bill and bring in someone like Toby Alderweireld from Ajax to complete a very good centre half quartet. He can also get 3 senior keepers off the wage bill which will open the door for players like Butland or other young keepers. We still have Khumalo, Bentley, Jenas, Dawkins, Obika, Rose etc to sell without impacting the 1st team setup. I'd swap them all for a young guy like Thomas Ince. Perhaps even Hoillett if Harry wants to trade players. We all know there are big fish out there like Moutinho and Damaio but is January a window where these players move? It will be tougher for AVB in the second half of the season to keep all the players happy. That has to be a good thing in my mind.

VR- what do Manu, City, Chelsea, Barca, Bayern, Real madrid all have in common - they buy established stars. where's the dominant Nottingham Forest these days??? Crewe and West Ham had great academies....the big clubs buy the best talent it strengthens them (as a team and a brand!) and weakens the competition, they have more success on the pitch which generates more money...it's called a virtuos cycle...now we can't compete at the highest level ie Falcao but there are players just below the silly money that we should be looking at....they can't all be bought by the super clubs...

It's been the best 8 days of being a Spurs fan for quite some time with the 9 points from 3 games and the scorelines of our top 4 contenders has been the icing on the cake! I'll say again, you need a BALANCE of youth, experience, athleticism and star-quality.... we as fans tend to put far too much on shiny objects... for what its worth, AVB will I feel think along my lines.... Muttley you rightly point out that Gallas, Friedle, Gomes, Cudicini and JJ will all be off the payroll in the summer....I think Rose and Khumalo will be sold without a problem and some younger players will either go on loan or also be sold so we have no problem with squad numbers...we will perhaps see Fryers back in the summer for a small fee and he can push the LB place...

I know Roman wants Guardiola but I can't help thinking Guardiola is heading to Man City to reunited with his old Barca buddies, that only leaves Mourinho who will end up at Man Utd. Chelsea are a sinking ship, fueled by a greed corrupt owner. They will never have consistency whilst Roman is about, without him they'd go bust in about 12 months. What is really scary is some Spurs fans want some sugar daddy to act the same at our club. This is why I have respect for Levy, love or hate him he is doing a great job in keeping our feet on the ground...IMO

if we can get damaio then we need to get him. AVB is getting the best out of defoe, but he is still flawed and he is also 30. we need to be investing in the future and the striker position is the hardest to fill. we have probably lost any chance of bringing in damiao but it will only get harder and harder. he would need time to settle in on any case, but this is potentially a future star. if we want to keep bale we need to give him a quality target man to work with. we also need a playmaker because without dembele we lack any creativity in the middle and we need cover for lennon and bale on the wings.

we have BACKUP for Bale in Townsend: left-footed, great pace, good crossing, backs up LB well, can play wide or come inside, even BETTER right-foot than Bale's.... and we also have Siggy, Falque, even Naughton who can play as backup right-sided players (I remember Naughton excelling at right-midfield in the Peace Cup in Korea 4yrs ago).... THudd, Parker, Livermore and now Carroll are collectively ample backup for centre-midfield

V-R, thats rubbish mate. When we talk about 'back-up' we mean someone able to come in/rotate without weakening the team. Bale is world class, Townsend when i have seen him has looked out of his depth at PL level (although he does have potential). Equally Dembele out injured proved we do not have a replacement as a creative central midfielder, the likes of Thudd, Parker, Livermore etc are either defensive midfielders who only pass sideways (Parker, Livermore) or are simply not good enough (Hudd). Carroll is the only one who shows potential but he's still young and a bit lightweight at this time. You are confusing sheer squad numbers with adequate quality in depth. We need quality like Moutinho, Willian etc (or whoever) in order to effectively rotate across all competitions so we can compete for trophies.

.... and I think you, like most, are getting waaaaay carried away with the hype of Dembele, who has featured in the Prem for many yrs now but all of a sudden he is world-class.... I prefer flavour-of-the-month.... a good player, very skillful, but not as great as the Media CURRENTLY says he is.... we lost to Citeh, Chavs and Arse (10 men) not due to Dembele missing but cos theyre good sides we were 2nd favourite to beat anyway.

Viyyash-Ramosh, Real Madrids/Barca's back up players are still of top Spanish league standard. While Townsend didnt really stand out at Birmingham in the championship. Our back ups should at least be of a good premiership standard, players capable of getting into the 1st teams of Everton or Newcastle.

V-R, the bottom line is if we want to compete for trophies we need strength in depth. If Bale and Lennon get injured are you seriously telling me that having Townsend and Siggy on the wings is not going to seriously hamper us as an attacking threat? Besides we CANNOT play them in every single match in every single competition - unless we go back to Harry's method of throwing all the Cups. Re. Dembele just going by what i see, don't care about Hansen, Shearer et al. He looks to be as good as, potentially better than Modric. He is a midfield transition player, like Modric, who can pick up the ball in deep areas even if under pressure and start attacks. In my opinion the reason why we looked disjointed without him was we just couldn't start attacks properly from midfield. If Dembele is injured again, its likely to be Hudd (too slow), Parker (passes sideways) or Livermore (can't pass at all) that replaces him. That has a massive detrimental impact on the team in such an important part of the pitch. We need quality cover!

LJ, yes i am waiting for the back-lash on here when we have the audacity to not get a result at Goodison Park next week. Instead of all the 'AVB is learning' and 'AVB is the man' after a couple of good results, it'll be 'AVB out' next week! When in reality he is just a new young manager trying his best to control what he can control and hope the players at his disposal do the biz on the pitch. Why can't we just accept that this is football, ever since it was invented there will be good and bad days. Good and bad luck from week to week. The key is to get quality staff in from coaches, players, scouts to medical people, that know what they are doing, are motivated, in it for the long-haul, have a long-term plan and willing to stick to it. If everyone buys into that then we have half a chance. Our problem has always been Levy's judgement has been god-awful at crucial times. I sense there is more of a mutual understanding this time and Levy has learnt from the many errors he has made in the past. We will see! Would be nice to get an announcement on the stadium at some point, what is happening with it?

I'm increasingly ambivalent after all these years and false dawns. Our club always promises so much and invariably fails to deliver....just like the stadium! The great thing about supporting Spurs is though, unlike our West London arriviste neighbours, is we can say as much as we like to the owner......ENIC OUT, ENIC OUT, ENIC OUT OUT OUT, as their tenure has NOT lead to a surfeit of trophies.

Far too early in the season to make any such claims about our greatness and the debacle that is the other London clubs. They go on a run and then what, an article about how we always get carried away with expectations. The old 'Chickens before they hatch' proverb ring a bell?

This is how I see it at the moment. To benefit Spurs I think it would be better to see Rafa to remain as Chelsea manager because the fans don't want him and it is going to take him time to turn things around and the longer that takes the better for us. If they sack him and get a manager in who the fans love that may well turn things round sooner than it Rafa manages. I do think Abromovich is mad he is delusional there is no team in the PL that is consistent every team go through difficult spells. just put the sacking of AVB in perspective, Abromovich doesn't give managers time. Biggest mistake he made was letting Mourinho go.

Secondly, our close rivals Arsenal. Remember last season twelve points behind us, they are not out of it no where near. Wenger has experience and know how to turn it around and fight us to the end for that fourth spot. We mustn't get carried away and get above ourself again, we must be quietly optimistic if we continue progressing and Arsenal and Chelsea struggle. It isn't over until it's over.

As much as I am feeling happier than I was a couple of weeks ago I am still not convinced we are strong enough to win that fourth spot no matter what is happening with Arsenal and Chelsea. There is a long way to go.

On the transfer window I would like to see Bentley, JJ, Cuducini and Gomes off the wage bill. If Freidal goes then we will have to keep one of those GK's. Then this money invested in a player, the wages we save on these players should easily pay the wages of a decent player.

Doubt Damiao is available for us, as price much too inflated. Llorente however is the one I want. Bilbao struggling and not starting with him means there is a problem there. Bale and Lennons crosses made for him. We may just push on with this addition. Won't be cheap but Jan - June would bed him in nicely for our CL campaign next year. Like last year we could do with pushing into 3rd to cement one/some names into thinking we can get CL qualification. This year Levy may just back the manager.

One thing that I am enjoying is that last year's re***** at the Library seemed to turn their team/season around. This year the same result has had up to now the opposite effect for them and more importantly us.
