Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United.

Some, myself included, insist that this isn't a strong all-round United team, but the facts and results appear to prove us wrong.

Just look at the facts, I'm sure I read that no Prem team has accumulated as many points at this stage of a season and we know that there have been some outstanding teams in the last twenty off years. Add to that a recent record of nine wins and a draw in their last ten Premiership games and despite many believing that United don't have the one - eleven strength of previous eras, they still definitely have enough quality in key areas to be better than their rivals. Perhaps that is as much about those rivals suffering their own troubles and inconsistencies, that United being that much better, but a table doesn't usually lie and even if they are not the best United side ever seen, they seem to be too strong when compared with the best of the rest in the domestic league and were also comfortable in their CL group, despite taking their foot off the game in the final games when qualification was assured. To me, in terms of squad strength, United are no better than City or Chelsea, but what they have and always have had is unity and togetherness for the the goal, Spurs appear to be strong here, however United have the long term belief, based on proven success, whilst we don't.

What seems obvious is that United have plenty of goals in them. Easily the Prems leading scorers and with the likes of RVP and his striking partners, this is a team that isn't just capable of hammering a weak and hapless opposition, but is one that is devastating in and around any opposing area. The problem appears however to be at their own conceding goals that take something away from their gloss of being the biggest scorers, with only WBA conceding more of the ten teams below them. 56 scored in 22 games in outstanding, however 29 conceded is poor for their position and perhaps makes then slightly vulnerable should their strikers forget their shooting boots, just for once.

Spurs of course have an almost unique opportunity to do a league double over United and that feat would be a Premiership first with the last being in 1989/90. Spurs haven't even beaten United at home since May 2001, but is this a Tottenham side that is stronger, more confident and tactically aware than many that walked out against United and even just having that knowledge of beating them at Old Trafford for the first time in 23 years, might be something to add real belief, but in saying that few have that iron belief and will for revenge like Fergie and United, so Spurs will probably have to again hit them hard and very quickly and hope that United leave themselves too much to do, as they did on the 29th of September.

Still without Kaboul and Gallas, Tottenham have the devastating blow of losing Sandro for the remainder of the season, though Scott Parker is more than an able deputy and I feel he will add experience and leadership and perhaps it will be an opportunity for Mousa Dembele to take on a greater role in driving forward, something I feel he hasn't done as often or effectively since returning from injury. The loss of Emmanuel Adebayor may well actually work in our favour as the probable inclusion of Clint Dempsey to support Jermain Defoe and drop back into the midfield, might add strength and brain over brawn quality in a game where we will have to be at our very best.

United have their own problems, in losing Jonny Evans, Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher from their squad, which probably mean we have the Ferdinand and Vidic combination in the heart of their defence, big on experience, but slower on pace. Something to think about? In the midfield, I have often felt they are lacking something, but in former Spur, Michael Carrick, they have a player in superb form, whilst I have also been very impressed with Anderson recently, and Scholes was superb in the game at OT. There is a potential that Cleverley and Carrick will be the starting pair and though both are very good players, I think we have the quality to deal with them, whilst Scholes seems to be running out of steam over a hard 90 minutes. The width will probably come from the under-rated Valencia and the brilliantly erratic Nani. I rate Valencia as an excellent player and his work-rate and defensive work is immense, much like Aaron Lennon does for us, however Nani is someone who doesn't seem to share that work ethic, but whichever Kyle starts, I feel they will have to be n their defensive guard

For me, I believe Spurs should revert to a 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 formation with Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, BAE, Parker, Dembele, Lennon, Bale, Dempsey and Defoe as our eleven. Caulker for his extra pace was in my thoughts, but Dawson's experience edges it for me, whilst Walker or Naughton is a very close call at the moment. What is very much needed is for a strong and organised performance, whoever pulls on the shirt and hopefully we have learned from our sitting back in the away game. Though defeated last weekend, Liverpool perhaps suffered for a lack of attacking ambition and in the final fifteen minutes could have easily got a point or even more. Saying attack is easier said than done of course as the likes of Van Persie only need half a chance to score, but I do believe if we play too deep we will be picked off and I would rather lose and feel we gave it our all that be frustrated at what might have been. This will be a total contract to last weeks parking of the bus and though United will look to create far more and dominate possession, it also represents an opportunity to play our own game and I have a feeling that there could be plenty of goals once again and as long as we score one more I would happily take any score in an enjoyable game in prospect...

C`mon AVB make history by doing the double over Manchester United . Hope Caulker comes in for Dawson .
4 -5-1 so Dempsey & Parker come in, for the glad he`s gone Adebayor ,& the sad he`s out brilliant Sandro .
big cockeral
damn it Liverpool have become really good and watchable!I consider them as contenders for top4 as they are only 5 points away from CL spot
SilwalYid
I'm really confident about this fixture, but whenever I get confident,We end up losing! :(
SilwalYid
Hopeful but not expecting a win, a draw would still be alright, getting four points off Man Utd in a season is four more points than we usually get, if it happens to be more then it's a welcome bonus.
Crissybwoy
A hard game for us tomorrow but we should be able to get at least a point out of it, hopefully we CAN do the double ovewr manure, wouldn't that be great COME ON YOU SPURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSS................................... And I still say he is going to keep them up. Especially after pulling Remy in. I actually really hope he does it.
chrishove123
SilwalYid try and remain pessimistic then for us all. LOL
chrishove123
bigc-Ade gone means Manure will prepare good against defoe for we have no options available upfront.P.s Defoe is on a goal drought and normally doesnt score against big guns.Having said that,I'd love to be proven wrong.

Stop Carrick or Scholes dictating play like in the 2nd half at old trafford. Scott Parker is key

apologies for the double post!
SilwalYid
Hmmm........hoping to see Caulker in the team......3 centre backs, 5 midfield, 2 upfront....and Townsend, at least sub. AVB...to make history....lol......I'll put £5..on it !!! "come on you spurs"
82spursdebut
HA HA HA AVB knows all about fergie time. LOL.............. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/9812394/Tottenham-Hotspur-v-Manchester-United-Andre-Villas-Boas-fears-Fergie-time-as-Spurs-seek-double.html
chrishove123
Bale up front? That would I think certainly surprise manure.
chrishove123
I hate being negative about games but I feel like United underestimated us back in September and will not do so tomorrow. I'd go 2-1 or 3-1 to United but of course I really do hope we get at least a point from the game
Spurs999
Spurs999 Are you reading the telegraph because they have predicted manure to win 2 1.
chrishove123
Like everyone else, i want us to win and take all three points. The big question is can we stop them from scoring, i don't think we can. The next question is can they stop us from scoring, again i don't think they can. At this moment in time and after 90mins + fergie time i would take a draw, the spin comes from beating them away and a draw at home, reverse those results, taking 4pts from 6 vs man u is not the end of the world. All 6pts, worth it's weight in gold.
spu 4 life
If Sandro was fit i would really fancy us, I think without him they might run all over us through the middle as the game goes on. I would buy a draw now please.
tophobunty
We will win and the reason ..I ain't missed a spurs Man U game home or away in about 15 years ,apart from this season and I can't go tomorrow.!!!!!and the fact ade barn door ain't playing !!
darrel999
SilwalYid yeah i know what you`re saying .Defoe needs to wake his arse up because he`s been non existent for a while now .

Key man for Spurs is Gareth Bale .Most if not all our attacking play has been put on his shoulders .Levy needs to act & get better attacking players in .We`re becoming very easy to defend against
big cockeral
For me swap out Dawson and Walker for Caulker and Naughton. We will need pace in the centre of defence otherwise Van Persie, Rooney and co will have a field day. We will also have to be defensively sound out wide so Naughton for Walker for me. Set up that we and if we play positively it could be a good game.
SpuriousLife
I think this could be a good team on is day...

.........................Defoe...............................
.....Bale.............Lennon..............Walker.....
.............Dembele.......Parker.....................
BAE.......VERTS...........DAWS.......Naughton
.........................Lloris...............................

Evra, Nani or Valencia will be working hard down the Manure left-wing.. Pushing Walker into a defensive-winger position (as he can run all day, and is seriously quick) with Naughton at right back... I think Walker, Lennon and Bale as attacking line of 3 behind Defoe and a DM pairing of Scotty and Dembele..

pushing Lennon into that CAM role for the game could speed up the game in our favour... there is to much speed in those 3 AM legs (Bale, Walker, Lennon) for the Manure defence...

It forces Bale to stay out on the left and cut-in... Lennon gets to play the channels off Bale, Lennon, Walker and Defoe..

We saw BALE start his career at left back... and move into the left-sided attacker that he is today...

I think Walker is the same... hes is lightening quick, has an eye for a run, can go past players with speed, he can cross when he puts his mind to it... and we know he has a shot on him...

I have heard loads of fellow Yiddos speaking about having 2 players in every position, for us to say we have the strength in depth that we need. As long as we have good right-back cover in a player like Naughton, i think we have decent right-wing cover for Lennon by using Walker out there on occasion...

I remember reading somewhere that Dembele started his career, and played for a long time, in the center forward position.

Anyway, i think our starting team should be full of pace tomorow, as the Manure CB's are not quick at all...
Yidmarks
I'd like to see Dempsey start. He has the grit and mentality to stand up to anyone. Oh yeah the angry man from Texas is what we need in the middle of the park getting in their faces.
Arky
Plus Dempsey is ok in the air and does sweep up well after Defoe.
Arky
Rooney back is a worry for me. So many times over the years ive seen him drop deep and absolutley boss things, stifling our play in the process. Get tight on Rooney early, get him under pressure is key. If he has a mare (He's either very hot or very cold) and Utd arent half the team they are when hes on form. In some ways Ade out and playing Dempsey helps us to do this.
HuddersfieldYiddo
Yidmarks, Walker lacks the technique to be a right winger. Hes only young and he will improve as a right back. He's not yet the finished article.
HuddersfieldYiddo
Personally I think Utd are weaker than they have been for some time on the playing side. What they do have is something that I believe AVB is trying to instil in his team, a winning mentality and total belief that no matter what may happen on the pitch, the points will be going their way. Other than the machine that is RVP, they have a balance that allows youngsters to settle whilst the old heads can cover and educate the youngsters during games. What they also do is do their transfer business early, giving the youngsters and new blood a full pre season at the club where they learn both the style of play and equally importantly, the ethos that runs through the club from the tea lady to the manager. It's extremely rare to see Utd blooding players in games with points at stake. They also have and it should never be underestimated, the best league manager I've seen in my lifetime, SAF. Love him or hate him, you've gotta admit that he'd make mincemeat of the weasel Levy and produce a winning team at our club.
And after all that, I'm predicting our first ever PL double over Utd, we're due the rub of the green and they certainly won't come to park the bus. COYS
thfc1882whl
'Stop Carrick or Scholes dictating play like in the 2nd half at old trafford. Scott Parker is key' -spurfect one....But Spus that would mean playing Parker high up the pitch DEMPSEY should sit on Carrick just by dropping off defoe...
shedboy2
United defence is shaky, they have had a number of high scoring games which they won because they have the goal machine which is RVP. Look at the league table, they've conceded more goals than Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea. Their defence is weak, RVP compensates for that. Stop RVP and you stop united.
Hot_Spur
I will not be surprised if Manu get a penalty awarded...after Fergie saying they were opportunities. I will not be surprised to see Fergie time added if we're winning after his last comments....for the integrity of the game it's time for Fergie to retire, he keeps haranguing referees and unduly imparting pressure on officials for the good of the game it's time for him to go or the FA to come down hard on his comments.
shedboy2
Hopefully Dempsey don't play because he will not defend from the front. Do you really think lazy boy Dempsey is gonna keep carrick silent? Highly unlikely. We should push dembele further foward onto Carrick and throw the young Tom Carroll in the deep end to partner Parker. Dembele vs Carrick, Carroll Vs Cleverly! Ekotto also has to start.
01tottenham
Cant play Naughton at left back in this one. I think Yidmarks team has some merits and would surprise them, But i feel we should change Walker for Dempsey in that team moving Lennon right.
tophobunty
It was Rooney's movement and link play that forced us on the defensive at OT. Stop Rooney and you stop United.
Love totty
Totty, him dropping deep and us with No Sandro = HUGE problem the longer the games goes on.
tophobunty
My Birthday tomorrow and will be at the Lane for the best gift of all. Doing the double over them would only be the 4th time in my lifetime ('60, '63, '74, '90) and to be there to see it would be priceless. Shame Sandro won't be alongside Parker to bottle up midfield but expect your selection Ox to be spot on. Interesting to see if Rooney will be chanced after only 90 mins since being out a month. Would be lovely to squeak a win with 3 away games in a row after this.
CoysRus
01tottenham- some merit there,,,demeble has already had two good games against them this year....by pushing up he'd snuff out Carrick and perhaps get a goal as well..
shedboy2
Parker will be the most important player tomorrow. Vertonghen an hopefully caulker even though I love daws will give us the best chance we have of stopping RVP but Parker must do a job on Rooney an Dempsey on Scholes or carrick. This will be our best chance of winning. Bale an Lennon have to roam to occupy man us centre halfs creating space for Defoe otherwise man us centre halfs will easily mark Defoe out the game an also nullify the threat of Lennon an bale if they only stay out wide
BrooksySpurs
01tottenham-tad unfair there about Dempsey being lazy. Are you suggesting that AVB allows for players to be lazy ? If Dempsey is lazy isn't that a reflection of our coaching staff and what they will suffer ?
Arky
Utd's greatest asset is that they play as a team. It is then tempered with tenacity and graft. I hate how two of their forwards can put our entire defence under pressure as we try to play our way out of the back. We need to be calm and keep the ball and not hoof it up.
Arky
COME ON YOU SPURS & WIN WIN WIN !!!
Madaboutspurs
Mad-Couldn't have said better myself.
Arky
shedboy2 I expect parker to be everywhere putting in some hard graft. Sometimes thats going to push him further up the pitch. If parker is just holding his defensive position, its most likely we will be under the cosh and i don't want that. I'm not saying he should lose all his defensive discipline but i also want him harrassing players trying to dictate play in there half to start off attacks like the 2nd half at old trafford, because if we drop off and get too deep, man u will slaughter us.
spurfect one
Love totty Pretty much what AVB says he rated Rooney as their most dangerous player. ................................................. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jan/18/andre-villas-boas-wayne-rooney-manchester-united
chrishove123
Hide fergie's watch, you stop united !!!
spu 4 life
Spurs fans going to the game should set up mobile phone alarms to go off at 16-45pm, then re-set for 17-45pm, white hart lane phone's ringing in tandem.
spu 4 life
time for bale to step up, no excuse for having a bad game against a team bottom of the table
123spurs
I would go 3-5-2. Lloris, Caulker in the middle of Dawson and Vertonghen. Parker and Dembele. Sigurdsson in the middle of Lennon and BAE and Bale and Dempsey up top. I would get as many balls in to the box as possible from deep. Their defence is suspect. It'll likely be Vidic and Ferdinand in the middle, they are 31 and 34 respectively and seem to be always one stretch from an injury. We need to choke out the middle and make them go wide. Our big guys in the middle should be able to deal with the crosses that Lloris cannot. There is a game plan to win this game. It will come down to our youth and speed, or their experience and quality of strikers. Should be a very interesting match and am looking forward to it. Having Defoe to come off the bench could be huge. COYS

Royhuddlestone
Royhuddlestone, does that mean we will never ever sign a marquee striker (20million striker)? **** ENIC out!
noone
If BAE is ready to return, only AVB knows the answer, i would have him back in, Naughton has done well as cover, but BAE is a natural left footed defender. Lloris; Walker; Dawson; Vertonghen; BAE (Naughton) Lennon; Parker; Dembele; Bale; Dempsey; Defoe; -Dembele has had a few good games vs Man U, he ran the show for Fulham at old trafford before, he was on the ball when we beat them 3-2 great first half, he needs to be on top of his game today.
spu 4 life
will the game happen? or will it be snowed off? Royhuddlestone- not a good read but confirms the mood music ENIC are gambling with THFC's very being....a half billion pound debt without a first team will take generations to pay off...
shedboy2
Not for me to say. For ENIC sounds like the Korean lad would make business sense. Another thread there says AVB would be happy with Willian if he didnt get a striker this window. Over to you Levy, another long window I sense ...
Royhuddlestone
Sorry was responding to @noone
Royhuddlestone
aussie-didn't get it...

Brooksy I liking this verging-hen player, I'm thinking you've got an iPad. But I think that is the only team you can pick today other than maybe Dawson in or for caulker or even back4 of walker, caulker, daws and vertonghen like at old Trafford, midfield onwards picks itself.

Parker is key to us not losing, the game is built for him as we might not being doing a lot of defending but when we do it is vitally important we get it right, got to stop there counter attacks fast! Lennon and Defoe are key to us winning. If they can produce it'll open things up for Bale and we all know how good he is.

I have a good feeling about today, 3-1 Spurs!!!
T.H.F.Chris
the thing about caulker, while he did make two mistakes which presumably cost him his place, he is faster than dawson and offensively he is so damned strong on the air, he always seems to be getting on the end of corners
Guernman
Defoe as impact sub..rio & vidic tired last 15 mins, JD will score.. we need to keep the 4321 or as peter said.. 352 we can win this.. and no last mins goal for utd....on way to the match soon.... it is now snowing in Herts. / N London...COYS..
Block D Spurs
Agreed chris. Unfortunately AVB being backed has meant we are often very limited in our starting lineup. This also makes it easier for teams to play an set up against us. An not sure about this verging hen myself. Looks rather tasty though
BrooksySpurs
Block D am I missing something here mate, we don't have any other strikers for Defoe to be a sub no??? Snowing like a b1tc5 here btw mate, highgate, north London.
T.H.F.Chris
Guernman - totally agree. We also know that Dawson will give up possession all of the time by playing the ball in the air. Do we really want that against Utd? It's a back line of Walker, Caulker, Vertonghen and Ekotto for me.
muttley
I'v been looking forward to the game all week but looking out of my North London window the snow is coming down steadly. I only live half an hour away from WHL so if the game gets cancelled I wont make my way to the ground.

I actually felt sorry for the mancs, long way to come down only for the game to get cancelled, then I remembered most Man U fans live round the corner....COYS.
ItalianYiddo
ItalianYiddo, it's a TV game. It won't get cancelled. After all if the Leicester game went ahead on Friday, this game also will. For those of you who don't know, the snow and traffic was so bad for that game versus Boro, the Boro players and staff left their coach and ran / walked the final two miles to the ground on foot (as did some of the Leicester players). Only 8000 turned up. Leicester normally get nearer 20,000
In-spurs-ational
In-spurs, was Liverpool and Spurs game in 2010 cancelled due to snow? doesnt matter if it is on TV teh H&S fools will say so or the police
Aussie Yiddo
I don't suppose there's any chance of supporters being able to support their team today without moronic 12 year old keyboard warriors telling them that they're not real supporters?

Ox, as I said the other day mate, this site is becoming easier & easier to stay away from & you've got yourself some very sad little people registered on here now & they seem to have no reason for being here, other than to abuse fellow members & THFC supporters.

I used to be very firm in my belief that this WAS by far the best THFC forum on all the worldwide web. That belief has well and truly gone mate, and it's a crying shame!!

I hope the people that played such a massive part in making this site what it once was, are able to enjoy today's game. I hope that the people who have taken this site & wiped their arses with it, are locked away in a padded room for their own safety..

I'll go for a saddening 3-1 loss. I'm not saying that because I've got no faith in our team, our manager, or our owners. I'm saying that because I'm awful at predicting results & usually it's the polar opposite of what I predict, that happens. COYS... IAVBIT... ILIT... FOYG

coopsieyid, okay 3-1 it is then. I'll take anything, even a 1-0 with the goal coming in the 125th minute (got to give a team a chance to score otherwise it would be an insult to the game) off Defoe's back side

Personally, I'm very pessimistic about our chances today & not just because history is against a win for us - that has to change sometime, it always does. No I can't see where the goals are going to come from today. Defoe has an appalling record against the the established top 4 sides & if Manure shackle Bale, as they surely will try to, who's left to bang 'em in?

The only positive I can take from my pessimistic feelings about today's game is that I won't be disappointed, whatever the result.

But then hey, no matter what - COYMFS!!!

Forums are supposed to be for people to insult other people via questioning their support for the club that they love.

As I said, I'm not going to argue with you (or anyone else) about it. If you are cool with the conduct of those that I am speaking about, fair play to you fella. I'm happy to support my club & share my opinion on other facilities where respect is paramount, abuse won't be tolerated, and anyone who dares to question the support of another Yiddo would be instantly suspended or banned.

Aussie Yiddo, I can never watch a recorded game either. United won't stick 10 men behind the ball, so it won't be a usual home game obviously. I think we are going to miss Sandro, but we have Parker and Dembele is more important for us. Hard to call, this one.

I've recorded games in the past, only for some di(k head to tell me the result oh they lost then, so i fast forward and play on slow rewind, at least that way it has a happy ending, it was my thai girlfriend who told me about that !!!

D I agree we need an alternative and Defoe is quality coming on late but I don't think against Utd is the time to try it, Leeds in the cup or even Newcastle maybe. Also not sure about Bale up there, I think he prefers the wing and then coming off it unmarked.

Might be an idea to incorporate a roof into the new stadium design, maybe even with some sort of trace heating?

I have to say I strongly agree with coopsieyid comments: "Ox, as I said the other day mate, this site is becoming easier & easier to stay away from & you've got yourself some very sad little people registered on here now & they seem to have no reason for being here, other than to abuse fellow members & THFC supporters.

'Jog on' wasn't a direction, it was just a 'forget it it then', I'm not really that bothered but haven't seen too many bad comments lately and most of the talk has been football related.
T.H.F.Chris
spurfect one- you're right we don't want Parker too deep when that happens we invite them on too much and he runs like a headless chicken before giving away a free kick on the edge of the area...not something we should give to United.

whta_sux, just leave it mate. I didn't want to start anything, I just voiced my opinion because I've had enough of reading the same old abusive nonsense from the same old abusive & dismissive posters. I'll just stick to looking around for any transfer info I can find & share it on here if I think it's worthy of discussion. Not that I'll be interested in partaking in those discussions. It's a sad affair when people actually have no issue with some of the stuff that is now said on here on a regular basis. One can only assume it's a fine insight as to the sort of person/people they are in the real world.

the genuine people/members on here are fully aware of who they are, they've kept this site going for years. One now wonders how many will hang around whilst this once excellent facility is dragged lower & lower by a few sad individuals.

coops your comments contradict themselves and are hypocritical "It's a sad affair when people actually have no issue with some of the stuff that is now said on here on a regular basis. One can only assume it's a fine insight as to the sort of person/people they are in the real world."

I can read between the lines and that is clearly directed at me as I had the audacity to suggest your comment was uncalled for. Stuff like that is exactly what YOU said is spoiling this site!!

As far as I am concerned today is match day and all about Tottenham V Man United, save the sticks and stones ****e for mon-fri.

Sad but true Coops, sad but true.

This is what a lot of the "discussions" have come down to lately:

Spuds-U-Like
@Coops, what_sux: To an extent I echo both your thoughts. It is down to the Site owners/co-ordinators to rectify the deterioration.

I have only been a member here for just over a year. Having for some time, trawled the www to find a forum where I felt comfortable amongst many informed posters/fans, I chose Vital. As well as the in-fighting amongst the so called ‘spur fans’ the site itself does my head in. It’s the slowest ill-responsive site I have come across. I now refuse to type within the site and instead write in a word processor, then cut n paste so that there is less typo corrections to make. I am sure the response of the site is dependent upon the amount of visual content and advertising.

Also, I participate in a number of other (non-footy) forums and their site/forum layout is markedly more user friendly. For example, the posts are listed in reverse chronological order, thus easier to get to the latest post, their posts have a time stamp, again making it easier to relate to, they have an edit button, allowing typo and other corrections. Most importantly, they have a filter button where a particular poster can be filtered, so all you see is the name of poster but NOT the post. These are some of the features I feel could be incorporated here.

Rant over, back to the match. As always, I am optimistic that we will get something from this game,,,,hopefully, 3 points. COYS!

coops - I look at it as a subconscious thing. I've been on here for years and I find myself posting less and less nowadays. I perhaps don't analyse the reasons why as deeply as some but would throw in that there is probably less to discuss nowadays. That's a good thing and shows progression. I wouldn't mind betting Ox finds it more difficult to find topics nowadays because we're not linked with every player that moves, there is no reason to sack the manager and our tactics and team selections are correct most of the time. We also don't have a manager that opens his mouth and creates conversational topics and don't have 55 players anymore :-) Hopefully now the conversations will evolve and the natural negativity borne out of decades of underachievement will change into a different conversation in the future. Here's hoping !!!

Please let's not start having a go at AVB for not starting verts when it's obvious for a good reason. Dawson may be the perfect player for RVP an Man U as he leads the backline n reads the game a lot better than people give him credit for. Plus as much as I love him verts has been a tad shaky at centre half in recent games.
BrooksySpurs
Perhaps he has a cunning plan of Baldrick proportions.
Hotspur 1882
Have faith in Dawson. Much maligned and very underrated.
Hotspur 1882
We need to test Ferdinand. He's no way near as good as he was, hopefully our movement in attack is good so we can take advantage of his lack of pace. We need to press well, and when we get the ball play with conviction and at a quick tempo otherwise Utd will just control us.
rahn DMC
Verts must have a knock. You don't rest your best players for the big games. Can't say I'm that confident of the clean sheet with that back four but we shall see. Saying that, with the weather conditions it could be a bit of a lottery anyway.

I can't understand that leaving vertonghen out is a plus, his been our best defender, maybe we consider caulker better in the air at both ends as a lot of man u goals have come from corners? still AVB pulls the strings not me/us

I agree BrooksySpurs, must be a good reason. Still seems odd to me, not having a go.
asherthesmasher
I'm lost for words about Verts. Lost all hope for this game, he is that important to us.
Tottenham Hotcore
Much as I really rate Verts he can be a bit of a liability in as much as he has got a really bad habit of pulling and shoving damn hard in the penalty area and against manure we all KNOW they will go down at the first chance to gain that soft penalty no matter what SAF says about diving. So I think it is a good move to have him as a sub for this game.

Unites team is set up to stop us playing in midfield which is what worries. This is why Mourinho is the best manager in the world. No matter how worse the opposition is he will set his team up to win. United have a better side than us yet they have set up to stop us first an foremost knowing they will get chances on the break. If we win today we will have done extremely well
BrooksySpurs
On the issue of whether our site has deteriorated because of nastiness. I changed my user name some time back (two or three years ago? I forget) because I was called a total knobhead so many times by people who thought I was out or order holding the opinion that we could do better than Harry. I have the impression that things were worse then than now, but these are merely impressions and my impression and coopsie's, for example, seem to be a bit different. At any rate, my internet connection has been disfuntional for a couple of days and I'm happy it seems to have returned just in time to try to access today's match. (I worry most about RVP and the absence of Sandro, otherwise, I'm upbeat about our chances to get a point today.)

Come on AVB. Show me that I was right to be thrilled when you replaced Harry.

It was shocking defending from Dawson. So much reliance on Bale; when Bale isn't playing well we struggle. Defoe, Dempsey, Dembele need to step up.

mattspurs1982
Least we got striking options on the bench. oh wait... hang on...
mattspurs1982
Only attacking player that can come off with is head held high is Dempsey .

Bale ,Defoe & lennon need to offer some sort of threat ,far too easy to defend against .
And when you have calamity Dawson at the other end giving 50-50 balls for Defoe V Vidic , 1-0 is the right reflection
big cockeral
Lennon is tyhe best player on the pitch wtf have you got against him BC?
philbill
we don't need a striking option... we're just fine... after all strikers are overrated, or is it that good one's cost money and Joe Lewis & Daniel Levy are not interested in success, at least not if it costs more than 2 bagels and a 5 litre drum of Ambre Solaire
Cape Town Spurs
Manchester United very clever marking bale out of the game .
They know we are a one man attacking team .Give lennon & Defoe space not a problem
big cockeral
Not the best set up today, Parker and Dembele against their 3? its a no brainer. Dempsey wont or cant help out, Bale wandering aimlessly and a right footed left back with our best fit defender on the bench. That catalogue is available at all good Argos stores. Now AVB its half time you have got at least four biggies wrong, earn your money and make some changes/positive impact.
tophobunty
as much as i like lennon he does annoy me , why does he not shoot more often , he crosses at the wrong time and takes people on when he should cross , such a frustrating player , could be a great player if he just gets it right .
ledleygomez
its been a close game. I don't think vertonghen on the pitch would have made any difference, the problem was on the right as always. Caulker has done fine and offers a real aerial threat from set plays where de gea is vulnerable. RVP is the best striker in the world right now, give him space and he will finish. when you see the goal from straight on it was the perfect header. We could still get something, lennon playing his heart out, he already has won two yellow cards, if we could get evra off then who knows. They don't often lose when winning at half time though
Guernman
This is going to depend on the opening 20mins of the second half, getting lennon and bale on the ball more, is going to cause problems for them, we need to get back on level terms, I'm sure they know they can step up another gear and that's what is required, it's a long way from over.

BIGC Bale is wandering himself out of the game its nothing to do with United, he needs to be disciplined just like the guy you dont like is, who had been our only threat. Bale needs to turn up and play and does the manager. Still its only 1-0.
tophobunty
Maybe AVB's plan is to throw Vertonghen up front so someone can get on the end of Dawson's long balls. But on a serious note maybe he's keeping him fresh just incase Parker has to come off coz he doesn't trust Jake or Hudd!
Jantheman
The header could have been attacked by three players. Lloris, to have done better would have had to guess. He did as well as could be expected. Great header. My question is, how can the most dangerous player on the pitch not be marked? Good job by Walker. That grass he was standing on was not going to get any snow on it. He is the most positionally unsound player I have seen in a Spurs squad since (I can't even think of someone that bad, Bale, at LB got close). I would not play Walker at all, but then, neither he nor Defoe was in my starting XI and I had Bale in the middle where he seems to have decided he would prefer to play anyway. Pleat keeps suggesting, week in and week out that Bale really out to stay wide. He, like me, is also quite impressed with Lennon's work forward and back.

Might be sacrilege but maybe starting Bale every match is making it too easy for them to set their tactics up? He'd make one hell of a scary sub against tired defenses! And just to throw my two cents worth in GO LENNON, wake up Bale and guys have a good look cause all your doing now is boring the hell out of the rest of us with your constant banging away at a player who gives everything he' got every match for our team.

The most telling thing about Dempsey is that he didn't even have the pace to sprint clear of Carrick when released. Not his fault but he's never going to take us forward. Lennon is the only one out there in a white shirt who looks like he might create something.

I'm pleased Man U are winning at half time, usually it's spurs in front then in the second half we screw it up. Usually because SAF brings on a sub on 45 then they go and immediately score, we are the better team at the moment so I think we can go and score just don't get let them have a shot otherwise they will score it, as they have proved now one shot one goal compared to our seven

A real poacher scored. Awesome. Lennon, another assist and man of the match. Dempsey was far more dangerous than 1 in 8 Defoe. Get him and Walker out of the starting lineup and we have something. Huge game by Dawson and Caulker. Dembele was brilliant. Way to go Spurs. Get a real striker in (Negredo) and a couple of quick utility players (Willian and Son) and go for it. M'Vila, Sissokho or Belhanda as cover in the middle and I can't see why we can't be in for cups this season and in for the title next.

Awesome result. That's why Dempsey was bought. Big goals. COYS

chrishove123
Well that was exciting. Good old useless AVB masterninding a well earnt point.

Luckily Defoe & Dempsey proved that we are well & truly covered for goalscorers, especially Defoe who looked a real menace throughout & was unquestionably Man Of The Match.

Great to see that Walker was in no way at fault for the slack marking for Van Persie's goal either, whilst his crossing (Walker's) was world class, especially his amazing corners in the first half. I truly don't understand why AVB stopped him from taking them in the 2nd half?

Then we come to Lennon. What a waste of space that boy is. He did nothing all afternoon & had no end product whatsoever & is so overrated it's unbelievable..

I agree with the service we give from the flanks we are crying out for a player like BA, shame. Ade is not the answer for me a big skillful striker who is good in the air is. Watching the replay for the goal, I have to credit Lennon for the assist to Dempsey. Defoe would have blasted it wide even from a tide angle with looking for a pass.

Yes! Knew we were still in it. Everything in that game proves my point. BAE not yet match fit. Defence was solid. RVP an Rooney had nuffing except for the goal. An we need that world class striker an number ten. AVB perfect line up an subs. Gave us a chance considering what players we need an who was missing ie Kaboul fully fit Ekotto Adebayor even though he's been pants. We are so close to being a fantastic team. Two players is all it needs. If we had those today we would've won, an comfortably at that...
BrooksySpurs
We need a fcking striker. I am sick of the sight of Defoe. Such a one trick pony. Any top striker would have taken his chances. Ferdinand had to commit himself to block the ball and any clever striker with a cool head would have turned him inside out there. He could have hit it first time into the far corner as well. Dempsey had a great chance as well which was annoying but there is something about him that i like. He is not top quality but much more valuable to us than Defoe.

spuradic, I would not sell Defoe. Harry got it right last season, he is an impact sub and there are not many better. He just should be nowhere near the starting XI. Same for Walker who needs to start deputizing under Naughton who should be on the right where he can work a proper overlap. As Pleat said, on the left he has to cut in to cross and it really hamstrings any consistent play down the left. BAE and Hudd looked very rusty. COYS

I thought naughton was more at fault, than anyone, for Utd's goal. But slack marking by Dawson too.

Nice to be reading through the HILARIOUS posts that were made during the match, and discover that the usual suspects (suspect) was taking a pop at the player who was, in my opinion, BY FAR the Man Of The Match. "Onlt attacking player who can come off with his head held high is Dempsey. Bale, Defoe & Lennon need to offer some sort of threat, far too easy to defend against"...

BigC, I am now going to question as to whether you know which of our players is actually Aaron Lennon? Whichever player you were watching was most certainly NOT Lennon. "Far too easy to defend against"? Man Utd quite simply could NOT handle him for the entirety of the fixture.
coopsieyid
c'mon!if that was a poor game by lennon then he may as well kill himself as the only thing he didn't do is score.he was a constant thorn in man u's side and his work rate and defensive play was great.he even took a few shots but man u stuck bodies in the penalty area.credit to us,we got them to play like QPR did last week.they parked the bus.
g. roberts testes
Well-deserved point there - Spurs were the better team - De Gea kept them in it - should have won if we'd converted our chances. We battered them at times, but wish we had someone like Van Persie - no way Levy's gonna splash the cash after Demps has scored. Dembele great. Lennon MOM!
DocHotspurs
I am still not believing we showed SAF what is like to concede at Fergie time. Though I´m happy we got a draw at least, there are lot of issues to be addressed by AVB: 1) Walker´s deensive positioningis terrible; he failed to mark RVP when he scored. 2) Defoe is a poor finisher and too susceptible to s mood. Any decent FC which want to get CL football must have better options available. He had 2 clear chances to score and missed both kicking the ball in such a girlie way that Modric would be ashamed of. 3) Caulker looks somehow lost sometimes. He might not be ready to big matches yet. 4)Why AVB made only two subs when he was 1-0 down with attacking options on the bench ?? At the end of the day, he was lucky no to lose the match. 5) Daniel Levy, the time to step up is now. If Schalke wants 2MM to release Holtby, I think it is small mone if we miss another CL season because we don´t have a decent playmaker. Regarding Defoe, well, promote Obika, promote Pritchard, promote anyone or buy anyone but this guy must lose his "guaranteed" starting position in order to understand how his poor finishing is neraly costing us important points.

Thoise who were giving AVB $hit for having "our best left back & our best defender on the bench", did you see how 'out of sorts' BAE looked when he came on?

You need to remember that the manager sees the players in training. You need to remembr that he knows when they are ready to start. You now need to acknowledge that, judging by how 'rusty' he looked when he came on, AVB was absolutely 100% right to not start BAE. Then again, surely anyone with common sense would be able to comprehend that you don't start somebody who has played about 12 minute of football in 5 months, against the best team in the country?
coopsieyid
Lennon is putting more and more on his value this season. Well done. Defoe and Walker just need to be benched. We should start Siggy and Dempsey up front next game. How many goals has Walker cost us this season, yet AVB just won't drop him, why? Cape Town Spurs, I'm starting to believe that our money is just being pocketed. I mean Defoe as our only striker, and Levy expects CL football? We make profit year in year out, but our players in don't reflect that. If we don't buy a striker in January, how ridiculous would that be?

Peterball. Naughton @ LB Is not ideal. I agree. When BAE is fully match fit naughton should start @ RB. Too many times this season Walker has lost his man at the back post and it has cost us. A back line of BAE,vertonghen, kaboul and naughton looks our best when all fit

82spursdebut, yes, Naughton could have done better but sometimes conceding the cross rather than lunge in and concede a foul or, worse still, have the man walk past you is the thing to do. There were three attacking players in the box and three defenders. Now, my math is not what it used to be but I would suggest that Dawson had his man and Walker had grass. RVP, the most dangerous player in the PL and the only one who should never be marked had a clear 5 yards in which to react and adjust to that cross. He headed a slow cross with power. All we needed was pressure on him to not allow for the power and there was no goal. Fundamental marking. That's where the problem is, Walker hasn't a clue about defensive positioning. His speed saves him because he is beat positionally more often than he is where he should be. He is a terrible defensive player. COYS

BrooksySpurs, I do respect your opinion, but I´d like to ask what if Dempsey had not scored in injury time and AVB still had Siggs on the bench ?? It seems to me it would have been a wasted opportunity to add something different to a match our main (and only) striker lost two clear scoring chances. I´ll go beyond it: I´m so disappointed by Defoe´s inability to meet the net even when he is one-on-one that I´d would start next two matches (FA Cup and Norwich away) with Siggs playond behind Dempsey.

Other than the goal we only had 3 good chances, 1 where Demps should have scored, 1 where Defoe should have cut back onto his right foot after good work from Lennon and the Bale deflected shot in the 1st half, which wasnt exactly a sitter.

Like Peter said Walker is just poor defensively, his pace saves him, but he is exposed positionally. Time to give Naughton a go at RB, he can't be any worse than Walker. How many more goals will AVB allow Walker to cost us? Granted he's saved us a couple of times, but he's a liability IMO.

Because I feel demps has more chance of scoring than siggy tbh. Like he did. I don't feel bringing siggy on would have made us more of a threat in any way. But of course as always it's down to opinion. An whoever said earlier that he was right that AVB got it wrong with Vertonghen an Ekotto an using the mistakes as an example. Well one we were completely solid with our defence except from slack play from Walker not Dawson. walker didn't mark the correct man meaning daws had noone to mark. Had Walker marked Welbeck behind RVP earlier on then Daws would've been able to mark RVP. As for Ekotto well he looked very rusty when he came on. Certainly not match fit to start against United

Only a fortnight ago you were on here saying I'm one of the best posters on here. Do you actually know what you're saying most of the time? Can you please explain to me why you're the ONLY member on here today who is saying Lennon was poor today, or is poor full stop? "2 games in a row we've got 2 points out of a possible 6"? REALLY? Please do tell me the last time we took 3 points off United before this season? Yet you're expecting us to get 6? Is 4 points against the best team in the country, with one of the very best managers in the world, whilst having NO decent striker, one of our best CB's and our best midfielder missing not good enough for you?

And going back to "coopsieyid the site was cool until you entered it". Well firstly I was on here many many moons before you. And secondly I've been reading the site whilst not commenting fella. After the $hit that you've created on here, and the things you've been called throughout the summer & beyond, believe me, the site has been far from "cool"...
coopsieyid
We done a United on them, thoroughly deserved for that 2nd half performance. We kept going and going, so refreshing to see it from a Spurs perspective. AVB the man!
North Upper
Don`t reply because i`m gone ,Lennon MOM ?heard it all now
big cockeral
My point is Benny was not on his game and looked damn rusty, he was making so many errors today compared with his usual game. He4 would have cost us the game if he had played the full 90 minutes. What I would like to know is what was your point. AVB did brilliantly.
chrishove123
Lennon, would get in this United side yes BIGC they are not the best but clear at the top, so better than us it would appear. Whenever Lennon got the ball Evra didnt know where to hide, he was lucky to still be on the pitch at the end. Lennon was light years our best player today as he has been on many occasions this season, you have a hardonski for him like i had for wooden shoes last year. I agree with you on just about everything period, this one not.
tophobunty
tophobunty - Please read my post again. Did I say that BAE never gave us more balance? Or did I say that he looked 'rusty' and it was clear to see why it was right of AVB to not start him against the best team in the league?
coopsieyid
Just back from the match. All in all a stressful afternoon! Lennon and Dembele were brilliant today. Naughton at left back was difficult for him. He was tortured by Utd all first half. He was stuck on the penalty spot for Utd's goal when he should have been closing down Cleverly on the right wing. Once BAE came on and shook off a few months worth of rust he gave us greater calmness at left back and also stopped our defence getting too narrow as Naughton kept wanting to come inside. For me Naughton should have played right back instead of Walker. Apart from that and Dawson's lack of pace and addiction to the Hollywood cross-field 60 yard pass, we were sound. If we had a striker of any calibre whatsoever we would have won today. Defoe was non-existent. The man was painful to watch. He lacked composure and timing and it was like playing with 10 men for most of the match. I know he scores in bursts but he looks devoid of any confidence or touch at the moment. Seeing as he's our only out-and-out striking option for the next few weeks it doesn't look good. Teams have worked us out. As we're toothless in terms of strikers they can sit back and hit us on the counter. Dspite what we all thought that is what Utd did today too. We desered a draw but were lucky to nick a goal at the death. It is so obvious that we need a striker that it is becoming almost unbelievable that we don't appear to be signing one. The whole West stand today was screaming for a striker, any striker PLEASE. Levy is either deaf, doesn't care or has something clever up his sleeve. I really hope it's the latter. Anyone against putting a bid in for Wellbeck? He was good today. See him play in the flesh and he has a great touch and pace to burn. Up front for us he would score bundles.

People can say it's a poor man u team, but even so they have more points after 23 games than all but one team in Premier League history.
In-spurs-ational
sydqcb5
It may only be two points from six and a few weaknesses that we all know about exposed. However, in previous seasons (indeed last season) we would have lost at a battling, motivated qpr and conceded at least three against united and finished with nil points. Well battled today and a last minute equaliser may give them that added belief to really kick on. Next few games critical.
Windlespur
worst man u team yet top of the league heard it all now BC is a ?, u knonw jack *****, we could of won if ur world class player was any good bale, go an f off, ur cluless, if man u play bad an get something whats that a sign of????
123spurs
Big C. I was at the match today and Lennon (along with Dembele) were head and shoulders our best players. I know you don't like him but facts are facts Big C. Without Lennon we'd have finishd without a point today.
SpuriousLife
I thought we played well today, and tbh I think we should have won. We were pretty much dominant all game. We played some good football with some slick passing (although it could have been faster at times). I think our goal could have been prevented, our defence was quite all over the shop on that front but apart from that they didn't do much wrong. I agree with Peterbalb though, Naughton should start RB next game and BAE at LB. The one glaring problem with our team is that we do not have a world class (or even class finisher) up front. Had RVP been on the end of the chances Defoe and Dempsey had then I think we would have won 3-1. Without a quality finisher brought in this window we will struggle to score lots of goals because Defoe has no competition what so ever. A long with a pass-master creative midfielder then I think we would be raring to go. For me, I would like Llorente,(perhaps) Guidetti (on loan), one of Isco/Cabaye and perhaps have a look at wing/inside forward competition for Bale and Lennon.
rahn DMC
good point coopsie, but i would still have started him for balance and take him iff if necessary. esp as our left footed CB WAS on the bench also

Just back from WHL, scrappy game, but wow did it feel good to get the equalising goal. Thought that United were in control in the first half, we had them pinned back for most of the second and had we had a striker playing for us we would have won the game. I didn't have Defoe in my team earlier in the thread and today he proved my reasoning. Lennon man of the match again for me. COYS
ItalianYiddo
Ghulamville - your criticism of Dempsey is ridiculous. Wish Liverpool had signed him .... Seriously.
Windlespur
Big c - I often enjoy your posts, but the saying 'credit where credit is due' must surely come into the reckoning with Lennon - despite your dislike of him. He tracked back great today and was dangerous and composed at the right time. Give him some credit at least.
Windlespur
What a great photo. An alright result in the end, even if we maybe deserved more for our efforts, thought the goal would never come but glad it finally did. It seemed all too easy for some to slate AVB for resting Verts before the game, but we can't moan about the lack of rotation from seasons past and then moan when rotation occurs. If it saves the squad from burn-out later in the season and we finish strongly then it'll be for the greater good. If Daws and Caulker looked sharper in training then so be it, better than having 11 favourites and 14 players that never get a game. We can't have it both ways. I'm far happier now than I was 3 minutes before the end of the game, we did to Man Utd what they've done to numerous teams, including us, for decades. Not really sure where the "poorest team for 20 years" bit has been garnered from Big C, they were unbeaten in 9 games and had won 7 of those, including away to Man City, that's hardly mediocrity.
Crissybwoy
@Coopsieyid. Thats what i like about AVB. He nutures injured players back in the fold unlike Redknapp who would have thrown him straight back in.

@ big cock buy noone? you must be joking, I am expensiv as hell and a mix of Falcao and RVP. Lennon will do great until the end of the season, Adebayor can only get better. Concerning Defoe, even Carlton Cole and Emil Heskey would do better for now.
noone
Love it to see our coach celebrating in front of Fergie. And Dempsey is prooving to be a big game player for us, unlike Defoe. In todays game, every time Defoeshoots or misses a clear cut chance, commentator goes on like - 'Defoe is in great form, he would be disappointed he missed that'. FFS, he has been missing those chances all season. AGreed he has hit 10 goals, but how many has he missed.

Dempsey is not the best passer but he is certainly a great trier someone who keeps on going till the end. He should have atleast got us 8 points on his own till now. Would rather start him as striker if Holtby comes in.
sydqcb5
tophob - Against Leeds in the FA Cup mate, THAT is the game to try & give BAE the start, to blow away those cobwebs. Today was most certainly not the game to 'hope' he hits the ground running. Like I said mate, AVB watches the guys in training on a daily basis, so we have no choice but to (hopefully) stand by him, and the decisions he makes. Despite Naughton looking tentative & Daws looking like, well Daws, and Walker doing as many of us regularly say on here (oddly enough not BigC), we pretty much dominated the tesam that's sitting pretty at the top of the PL right now. How many saves dis De Gea make? Compare that to Lloris. I'm telling you (and veryone else on here) in AVB we have a manager who truly does know how to set up a team to suit the opposition on the day. And that's whilst missing some pretty important players through injury. I'm one happy THFC supporter & hope we can keep him for the long haul.

Odd that the people who were at WHL are also choosing lennon as their MOTM. Did they go to the wrong stadium or something? lol

coopsieyid
Coopsie didn't BAE start against Coverntry in the last round? or was he sub? Nobody ever needs to watch Naughton in training to understand he will NEVER be a top left back, he is right footed....that really is the end of it. Don't know about you but I don't remember too many top class right footed left backs....there's a trivia question for the members....
tophobunty
123spurs - Not sure what you meant when you told me to get over it? surely you can see that pretty much every comment I've said about Lennon was sarcastic mate? He was, in my opinion, the best player on the pitch. And Thank You for saying it's good to have me back. It actually means lots more to hear it from somebody I've most certainly not really ever seen eye to eye with on here. Appreciate it fella!!
coopsieyid
Just watched back some of the bits recorded on sky plus and my view when watching the game at the stadium and just then was positive. I thought we played really well. They did curve us open for the goal but that was about it. Defoe was and is awful. Even Gary Neville and Jamie can see what we need in our squad to move us on. A striker and a creative player. Why can Levy not address that. I hate RVP but what position would we be in with him leading the line. How much time did Defoe need for his chance. A top forward is a must. If only Jamie's dad had not f***ed us over with Suarez. I did think that was a poor a bench as I have seen at Spurs for some time in the attacking sense. I thought AVB had got it wrong with selection at the back in leaving out both Verts and Benny but proved wrong. We need to address the Defoe situation as simply not good enough for a top four side.

15 days ago? http://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/teams-spurs-coventry-fa-cup/ i dont think that's rushing Ekotto back and agree with the panel on this one and a few posters here back from the game that we improved significantly when BAE came on and therefore i think it a safe bet we could have been better earlier had he started. Naughton is NOT a top class left back and never will be.
tophobunty
Again tophob mate, I've not even come close to saying that Naughton is a top class LB, then again, he's not a LB so it's hardly surprising. I don't think there's a single member on here who wouldn't agree that BAE is by far our best LB mate, but it MUST be a fully fit BAE. I was going to say "MUST be a fully fit & focused BAE" but when has BAE ever been fully focused? lol

I know that United are financially on a different level, but the comparison between the two benches was worrying. They had Hernandez, Valencia, Rooney, Giggs, Anderson and Smalling, that's half a team of first teamers. Couldn't see many match winners on our bench.

seeing Rooney and Valencia come on for them and BAE and Thud for us really put our lack of attacking options under the spotlight...

BTW Sneijder to Galatasery apparantly just gone through. 3.5 m euros pa (£3m pa) after tax - ie £60k pw after tax. Fee to Inter about £6.5m.

Also somebody is claiming that an "agent friend" has told them that Diame to Spurs is supposedly being tied up today. Hopefully that's bull$hit!!
coopsieyid
AVB Is really growing on me, not only as a coach but as a person. I don't seem to recall AVB critisizing refs or other players. Fergie on the other hand could learn something from avb in this regard. The post match interview with fergie was nothing short of disgraceful, to mention the Drogba incident which was a long time ago to try and ridicule a linesman who was trying to do his job without any fuss imo is classless, yes Fergie praised us, but he also made sure the officials would here his wraith which will in turn favour united when they officiate them again.

That pic is fantastic. Say what you like about AvB but he really knows how to set up a side. Really impressive today, i know its only 1 point but its against the best team in the league and we dominated them without dare i say it playing our best. Damn we just really need that striker to help out the hot and cold Defoe. I'm a fan of JD but he can be hit and miss. He needs help, he's not Falcao ffs. Agree with BAE looking rusty too, he needs easing back in. Anyways 1 more point gained on Arsenal, if we finish above them we will finish 4th imo. COYS

More about the Sneijder to Galatasary info...

The source of this is Johan Elmander, the ex Bolton player, currently at Galatasaray. Comes from his verified twitter account. For some reason he was giving out details.

Van Persie was pretty anonymous today other than the goal, it illustrates that United posed little threat in attack.

Gutsy, determined performance from Spurs whose collective talents and commitment led to much more possession than Manyoo had. A good goal by the visitors that Spurs took in their stride. Manyoo did all they could to hold on, to deny Spurs, but at the last they were jolted by the Dempsey goal. Manyoo have taken one point from Spurs games this season, while Spurs have taken four points.
Airwave
October 13th? Might as well say the whole of 2013, because we may not see him play again until 2014!
Guyver
Coopsie, what do you think of chances of signing Leonardo, Willian, Moutinho, M'vila
Chelmspur
Man I keep seeing that Dempsey 1 on 1, HOW did he miss that? He had the whole goal to aim for, either side of De Gea & it's in the back of the net, but he just hit it straight at him :(. Still, at least he got a point for us in the end, unlike our none existent 'striker'!!
coopsieyid
Lennon was excellent but if you want the truth and my honest opinion I thought Dembele was MOTM. Without him we would have struggled but he kept creating chances making decent passes running at them. Really enjoyed watching him, Parker had a good game also and showed he's still got it.
gazzalegend
Coopsie. I hope the Sneijder news is untrue. He would be just what we need at the moment. I have a friend who is a coach at Inter and he says Sneijder is desperate to come to the Premier League. He has had Galatasary on hold for over a week in the hope that a PL team will come in for him. From what I've been told he'd sign for wages between £3m-£4m pa if a deal could be done with Inter (bear they're desperate to move him on). It will be a big miss if we don't get him.
SpuriousLife
123 - thanks for the explanation mate (about "get over it") I appreciate that :)... I also agree about people constantly bringing up HR too. All I can say is "WHY"? He came in, he DID do some good things with & for us, his time was up, he is gone. Why can't people just bloody let it go & concentrate on NOW?

tophob - Mate I am not the manager, I don't choose the team, I don't know what goes through AVB's head. All I KNOW is that the line-up may have been a surprise to many of us BUT after the event, and the VERY well timed substitutions, AVB was surely proven correct? I am sorry you didn't also recognise the rustiness in BAE's game, but others on her have mate. That's enough for me to not accept that I haven't completely lost the plot, yet!! lol
coopsieyid
For the last two seasons we have looked a spent force at this time of the season, well done AVB for keeping a lesser squad fit and motivated.
ItalianYiddo
Holy cow. 123spurs AND HuddersfieldYiddo, both in the same day? Guys it's a real pleasure to be able to agree with you, rather than be at loggerheads with you.

HY - 60% possession & 15 attempts at goal against the best team in the league without, as you correctly say, playing our best team. Spot on post fella, in my opinion anyway. One question if I may. Was Lennon $hit today?
coopsieyid
great performance 2day! We need a carrick sort of player though, someone who is creative but good defensively and just sits infont of the defense. This will mean if parker got injured he could slot in and if dembele got injured he could come in and compensate the loss of dembele with xtra creativity. Is yann the man ? Anyone know anything about this guy...but a striker priority obviously, negrdedo looks most likely. I think levy and co are trying to bring a striker in they're not blind! I think they're just waiting 4 the right 1 (not a saha) COYS!

spurfect one_ absolutely agree with your sentiments regarding Ferguson. He really is an odious ****, and if I were the official whose integrity he impugned today, I wouldn't waste my time with the lame-brains at the FA, I would engage a shark like Lionel Hutz, with a taste for legal meat, (y'know the sort of amoral lawyer that represents gold-diggers in divorce cases) to take the Gorbals gob****e to the cleaners in the courts. The he'd bleedin' shup the eff up, and maybe react more like you'd expect a knight of the realm.

Has been confirmed Sneijder to Galatasaray. I don't think he was a good option for us. What we really need is an f'ing striker.
asherthesmasher
I f'ing hate SAF. Always have.
asherthesmasher
Chelmspur - I'd say ZERO CHANCE on any of them mate, especially Leandro, Willian & Moutinho. Worryingly there's LOTS of talk around about Levy going back on promises made to AVB, re targets that AVB actually wants. This 'talk' even goes as far as to say that AVB will NOT quit the club, but will also NOT sign any extension that he may be offered to his current 3 yar contract.. I find this VERY concerning & if it turns out to be true, there's no other choice but to agree that the likes of OyVeh & Frank & LJ were absoluely spot on about Levy/ENIC having no interest in THFC, other than to build its profile & sell for a nice profit. It makes sense if you think about it. AVB gets hamstrung via 'OK' signings, but is a good enough manager to get us CL football for 3 consecutive seasons (hopefully) & boom, Levy/Enic are quids in after a fruity sale. I truly don't want to believe it, but all things seem to point in that direction. He's got 11 days to prove that theory wrong & i won't be holdig my breath that he does!
coopsieyid
about fair i think.................................Lennon 9 - A constant threat, leading to a last minute assist. He made six key passes (as a comparison, Bale didn’t make any). His work rate was also fantastic, as usual – he tracked back phenomenally.
tophobunty
Put your handbags away boys, first time in 23 years Utd have not beaten us. More importantly, we salvaged a draw from certain defeat. At last we showed guts and flight. Why can't we play like that all the time??? Lennon was superb and the number of good passes behind the utd defence highlights the need for a more clinical striker. Demba Ba would have won the game were he playing for us today. I hope this galvinises the squad and now they have more belief and confidence to go on from here. COYS.
vicspur
lordjohnny - I agree with you too, re the linesman today gettng lawyers to look into Alcy's comments. Another thing I'd be interested to know too = Don't you think that Levy should be doing the exact same thing after Alcy's comments afer the Fryers deal? "This has Levy's fingerprints all over it, the league should look into it because there will be records, emails, phonecalls, faxes".. Even though we all pretty much know that Levy has pulled a fast one (many of us called it last summer when Utd demanded £6mil for Fryers & he mysteriously & suddenly went abroad). But that doesn't detract from the slanderous comments made by Ferguson about Levy's character, does it? And I ask that purely from a legal point of view, not from the point of view of your opinion of Levy ;)
coopsieyid
Certain people on here slated AVB for not bringing Lloris into the game sooner, now people are slating AVB for not brining Benny back quickly enough. What's the betting those same people would slate AVB if he brought Benny back two or three games ago and he broke down injured again and was out for the rest of the season. AVB knows what he is doing far better than any of the FIFFA football managers on forums do so just keep it shut and let him do his job, he's proven the naysayers wrong about the way he handled the Friedel Lloris situation so he will be handling the Benny injury situation in the same way. AVB has introduced a MERITOCRACY, something that has been seriously lacking in this club for years. Now it is here we play the players who are bang on form for that position, no more no less. Get with the game plan you lot, or are you like our old manager only wantng to see YOUR favourite players on the pitch week after week until they are burnt out and we have another collapse for the THIRD YEAR RUNNING???
chrishove123
Coopsie, I like you hope it's not true, but how many transfer windows go by without signing the right players. Always the rumours to give us a taste of what could have been. If those rumors about ENIC are true, which I think with the way it has been recently will be true. I think they have been blowing smoke up our asses for ages now. How many times has a big money move broken down at the last minute. It is a fact that a good striker will cost more money than good players in other areas of the pitch. We have needed a striker for years now and the situation is becoming a joke. I'm not saying lets get a sugar daddy in but for the last few years we have only been a few players away from a top side. Would the owners not be better off spending a bit now and cracking top four than let it slide away again.
nothappyharry
nothappyharry Fully agree, just imagine how we would have torn them apart today with a top class striker.
chrishove123
chrishove BAE, had recovered pre xmas and played 15 days ago, today was not bringing him back early. I for one am not slating AVB, i disagree with playing a right footed left back when a good left footed left back is fit, we saw the change of balance and the impact was clear and positive, it was even mentioned by the Pro's in the sky studio. Its not a challenging thought process and not about slating AVB i for one am happy with his progress, yes we could be 5-7 points better off, but when couldn't we be? Like all managers he will never get everything right, Naughton at left back today was not the correct decision, at least he realised it and changed it fairly early...ish, all power to him for that.
tophobunty
Mr. Coops- I think from a legal standpoint it would be more difficult for Levy to take action because Ferguson has not directly slandered Levy, and his comments suggest that there is the possibility of infringing League rules, again not directly by Levy, but hinting at his possible involvement. I may be wrong, but I'm sure Levy's legal eagles would advise accordingly if there was a chance of action. Whereas, with the linesman today, it is more clear cut, in that he sees a direct connection with a previous game which went against United, and, in what is more a suggestion than a hint, compares that with today as if some sort of conspiracy of bias, by the same linesman. If that ain't impugning his character, I do not know what is, although the FA will have Van Gogh's ear as usual. I'm willing to submit my £1 to a Gorbalsballs fund to back the lineman's case, unless he wants to get an ambulance chasing CFA brief.
lordjohnny
Many of us on here have been very sceptical about ENIC's intentions for our club. It is obvious that 2 good signings now (quality striker and attacking midfielder) and we will be regular CL participants over the next 5 years. We are that close to moving to the top level so what is holding ENIC back? I really hope ENIC prove me wrong but I think they've taken us as far as they want to or are choosing to. If that is the case then they are holding us back and we as a fan base need to encourage them to move aside.
SpuriousLife
I said it before the game and old red nose didn't disappoint and has done it again...the sooner he retires the better for the integrity of the game...The FA need to PUNISH Sir Alex for calling the linesman's integrity into question...he's a disgrace.

Coopsieyid like you I read most posts on here but rarely comment these days as I am****ed off at being vilified by some for stating my opinion. Spurious not sure i understand your logic that these 2 players will make us regular CL for 5 years. What if, as predicted Bale leaves next season?
tophobunty
I'll admit I wanted Lloris in sooner, but I was quite happy for Assou-Ekotto to take as long as he liked in his rehabilitation. Llloris is, by any standards, a world class keeper, and captain of his country, and I'm surprised we didn't have to fight off competition from others to get him. If he continues to show this form, I'm concerned that Barca may come with an open cheque-book in June. If so, I'm hoping he shows a bit more professionalism than another who went to Spain.......and is failing spectacularly.

lordjohnny Love your diplomacy with no names mentioned. HA HA HA nice one mate.
chrishove123
Chuffed we got the point !! Played well too. Need striker. Gotta work. Back later to read your posts. We're doing some good stuff.
Madaboutspurs
So delighted. Great team effort. #7 was pure class today. Made both Carrick and Evra work hard for their money. Turned 48 today and all I wanted was three points. I'll take the one - considering the way the game evolved. Credit to AVB for picking a good side. Read somewhere that Verthongen was benched because of a tight hamstring. Explains it. Re - this site and the *****e people throw at each other: It's funny. In my 40 years as a spursupporter I've allways thought of spurs-fans as tolerant and good-spirited people. Not spoiled plastics like many of the new-rich ones - craving a new superstar for every game they loose, or whining goons like the ones down the road (I zink the ref was wrrrong today) - or - like a former colleague of mine (Man utd fan from the PL- era) naming other clubs small because his club drops a point in the last minute. We're THFC ffs. I love reading the insight many of you share in theese threads, but sometimes it's hard to find because of this "other stuff". Now I'll sit back and wait for my copy of John Crace's "Vertigo". It's supposed to tell me why I love this club. COYS
BillNich
On the Vertonghen front he didin't even warm up with the squad before the game or at half-time. Named as a sub but not seen all day. Hope he is just ill and nothing serious. Must have been a last minute thing as he wouldn't have been named as a sub otherwise. Great point in the end and the look on Rio's face at the end was priceless. Fully deserved as they were only intent on playing on the break and nicking the win. Nearly but NOT QUITE.
CoysRus
Lord...I will still loan back Modders to the end of the season tomorrow if possible because he will improve us.
tophobunty
Just had a scan and saw post from coopsie, what_sux (long time no see), norwichspur (wasn't it you who hold the record for 17 post in a row) etc. Nice to see some previous posters coming back. That's another..YAY :-)

lordjohnnyGlad you agree mate. Refs and linesman get a bad rep from the public the last thing they need is people in there own profession accusing them of inadequecy, it's not as if the penalty call was so clear cut that warranted the abuse Fergie gave him in his post match interview, and as coopsieyid already suggested the slanderism of Ole red nose Knows no bounderies.
spurfect one
tophobunty The way he's playing these days, or more to the point, not playing I wouldn't want him back. Give him half a season and he'd want to go elsewhere again because he wasn't guaranteed first team all the time, he wouldn't survive here in a meritocracy, he'd be too busy throwing his toys out of the pram when he was on the bench or subbed and then would go causing all sorts of bother again probably threatening to go on strike again. No, best he stays rotting on the bench where he so desperately wanted to go.
chrishove123
I do try, chris, but often fail on the diplomacy front, as others on here will attest. Anything I post should have a health warning prefixed with: 'These are the rantings of a p*ssed idiot, so please don't take this seriously/personally........'
lordjohnny
Tophobunty.. Take your point about BAE but agree with coopsieyid about the rustiness. He looked very rusty and would of done more harm than good over 90 mins. AVB deserves massive credit for making that change at the right time. That subtle change of shape to the team contributed to our equaliser. Funny how we always think to chuck on another forward when we need a goal. How many managers do you know in the prem that would consider a changing a left back with 10 mins to go as a way of creating an alternative attacking dimension(I've even use an AVB word there)
Adie13
lordjohnny LOL
chrishove123
Topho-He won't come back to us as he suffers from a medical condition, called toobigforyourclubitis, which afflicted another ex-player, Berbatw*t, in that they mistakenly think they're better than us, and find out they ain't. Let's hope Fulham take him on loan, and we can laugh as him and the vulgar-Bulgar bawl at each other like a couple of fishwives.
lordjohnny
Adie, we have been restricted to a degree for weeks by playing a right footed left back as good a right back as Naughton might be, it just doesn't work.
tophobunty
Good man dempsey! The Larry David moment after scoring, jumping on the dude in the wheel chair, was priceless. Agree Gaz, Dembele MoM, MF would have been overrun and we wouldn't have demonstrated so much will to fight without him.
ardone
That's my point Chris, give him half a season and he can go elsewhere again, it's a loan to the end of the season and he is better than about 18-20 plus players in our squad, so quite simply he would improve us and that's all i care about, not interested in him and or anyone rotting anywhere because of any personal footie type grudges. IT's logical not emotional.
tophobunty
Even though I fully agree with coopsie regarding the 'standard' of discussions on this site gradually deteriorating, imo over the past 2 years, I also think Ox's hands are tied. We cannot really expect Ox to come in deleting posts or banning people who are aggressive posters or those who are belittling or dismissive of others' opinion. If we want this site to be great again, we will need people who enjoy a level headed discussion to come on here more often. Hard as it may be, we'll just have to ignore posts from the aggressive ones.
Madaboutspurs
what_sux, you were gone so long I thought ox banned you after the 1st post picture incident. To make matters worse for me, I did not get to see that picture before it was taken down ;-). Great to have you back though.
Madaboutspurs
That goal was a good Birthday prezzie and it really felt like a win. Lenny our best player, set the goal up, tracked back all game and was immense. Happy for the team, and me, we got a point from that one. Several years we have been the better side only to get nothing. This time was different. Well done to everyone involved.
CoysRus
there you go johnny, grudges, pointless. Why should a player not want to play for a bigger club which gtees CL and pays more money? I guess you have turned down every better offer all the way through you life? You saint I applaud you.
tophobunty
Yes CoysRus, it did feel like a win. I was going to start posting earlier with "Chuffed with the win......."
Madaboutspurs
BillNich - Happy birthday brother :-)

Madabout - Always a pleasure mate!!

LJ, back to my question about Alcy & Levy. Alcy did name Levy though, and the comment "This has Levy's fingerprints all over it" etc, is that not a literal example of slander? I ask in all seriousness by the way LJ, you pi**ed up old rambler you lol..

CoysRus (and others questioning Vertonghens omittance). If you check the link I put to the full AVB post match interview, you'd see that Vertonghen was taken sick, wanted to play but couldn't even make it to the warm up/bench.. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT :)
coopsieyid
coops apparently Colton Cole tweeted earlier good luck to my mate diame going to link up with my pal Lennon. That might be why the rumours have started. Don't sign him before wednesday let him play against the scum he is one of their better players. As for today was at the Game Lennon got three of their players booked for fouls on him. So can't say he wasn't a threat. Evra should have walked when he took Lennon out off the ball when we were countering on them. We restricted united to 4 shots on target. Cant see why there can be any complaints apart from not having good enough options up front. 7 points clear of Arsenal. they looked terrible in the first half. Big couple of games coming up Norwich, West Brom and Newcastle. If we take 7 points we have got to be happy. Maximum points is not beyond us as we are better away from home and newcastle look shot

Oh and in regards to the level of discussion on the site. I feel I should point out that it's NOT the 'name calling' that I was referring to earlier today, that's what we expect from keyoard warriors. It's the accusations of not being a "REAL SUPPORTER" that are thrown out to our overseas members, or others that are simply too far away to get to games, or maybe can't even afford it. WHY should a fellow THFC supporter who happens to live on the other side of the world have his or her level of support questioned? Why does their opinion count for less just because they're not able to get to WHL? Some of those guys are getting up at 3am to watch us play, others don't even bother going to bed, even though they have to get to work the same day. It is that sort of thing that I'm on about. I may be a minority but I HATE IT.

Sorry for not talking football...
coopsieyid
The gods of football have been with me today. First, the goal at the 93rd minute by Dempsey! Second, my internet connection has been out for almost three days, but started working just before the match today, so I could watch the match. Third, just after the match the connection went out again. So, it was only for the duration of the match that it worked. The gods favored me today. It just started working again, so I get to write in to my TH site. All in all, a good day. We have taken 4 points of a possible 6 from Man U this season. We outshot them by a considerable margin today and well deserved the point. The only reason they led going into the last minute was that RVP is a better forward than Defoe, but that's not news, is it? Otherwise, we were the better team. The old Scotsman must still be angry. lol. Let me give thanks to the football gods for today.
Total knobhead
Happy today although I feel we deserved three points. RVP was quiet we had more chances with a quality striker we could easily won today but credit to Dempsey he worked hard. Defoe has hit a stale patch as he does but overall we played well as a team. Lennon was great better than Bale and Parker has done well and Dembele had a better game especially in second half. Yes it was a penalty but then was the one on Lennon. AVB has done well and deserves a quality signing.

hey, coops, thanks for your support of us living in Spurs diaspora. But I think I was vilified more for this three years ago than I am now. My sense overall is that such insults are no more common now than they were in the past. But, as a knobhead I'm largely immune to such comments. Again, thanks for recognizing that our love for the club isn't diminished by life throwing us into different parts of the world. Our hearts are in N17.

diame..really??? he's put in some decent performances for Spam but I went to upton park for the spam citeh game and he couldn't trap a bag of cement that day, I remember him tripping over the ball on a west ham break...not for me. And that would really show our level of ambition....3.5m release clause, yea bring on the new stadium so that we can compete against Newcastle for transfers in 15 years but have to watch 2nd rate players or kids till then...

Thanks for support from Down Under as well coopsie. I did not get up at 3 last night though. Just got up a few times to check scores. Went to watch Le Mis last night and only got to bed at 1 am. Good movie that was but they never stopped singing the entire movie. lol

Good point too there TK, as in the amount of insults are largely the same compared to a couple of years back. Problem is we do not have enough level headed ones on here often enough anymore to balance it up.

Shedboy, agree ref Sturridge, always looked like he would be very good, i thought we would get him ahead of Chelsea last time round also. Time will tell but he's made a good start at Liverpool. Prefer his playing partner, pure world class, if we had signed Suarez would be be in the CL this season and top 3 now without a doubt.

Let me urge people not to be discouraged by being insulted. Let an insult roll off you like water off a duck's back. Change you name to something like Utter Idiot or Total knobhead. Then you can laugh off the insults.

If Vertonghen was not selected for the Manyoo match, how does anyone come to try to make an issue out of something so inconsequential? A team only has 11 places with a few more ready as substitutes, and who is actively involved match to match will vary. Thud doesn't play, then he does. Dawson doesn't play, then he starts. BAE is ready to play but still Naughton starts against Manyoo, though BAE is on well before the end. Siggy plays, then he doesn't, then he does. How can such matters be made the pretext for whingeing about a club, a board, an owner or a manager?

Like I say time and time again, we're doing good things now. Just enjoy the ride fellas :-) Another little bit of good news. Madaboutspurs
I think even AVB can see that Defoe is going through another one of his down cycles. I always rated Dempsey even from his Fulham days and I am glad he is chipping in with a few vital goals here and there.
Madaboutspurs
Yup for me Lennon is having one of his best seasons at Spurs, his final ball is much improved. He floats the ball to the back post more than he used to and its quite deadly, similar to the way Matt Jarvis does at Wet Spam only with blistering pace and workrate to boot. Really don't understand the criticism of him recently by some on here
HuddersfieldYiddo
Judging by 80% MOTM for Lennon, I think most of us here acknowledge his recent contributions Huddersfield. There'll always be the odd one who would beg to differ. Don't ask me why because all I can see is him tearing down the right flank giving their defenders lots of headache all game.
Madaboutspurs
Agree with you Huddersfield. One of the TV commenters today said Lennon made a nice trackback to take the ball and said that's not usually his game. But the truth is that that has been a big part of his game this season. He's become a rounded player, routinely tracking back on defense to help Walker (thanks to the gods) and has a more varied set of strategies when going at the defensive backs. Like his play this season.
Total knobhead
Jan tweeted after game that he was Ill and hence not available for xi
sydqcb5
Good performance, restricting UTD to four efforts in 90 again shows AVB's tactical nous. Lennon best player on the park by a country mile. RVP was never Walker's responsibility was Dawson's but he was so out of position as usual Walker had to try and cover as it was obvious Dawson wasn't going to recover. Since when is a right back supposed to mark a centre forward with the centre half marking no one Why do people feel the need for scapegoats? Walker was the best young player in the country last season, he hasn't been able to repeat that consistency this season. Like all young players his form will vary but he hasn't become a bad player all of a sudden. By all accounts he is an excellent trainer first in, last out doing extra work EVERY day, studying video of players who played the position well every week trying to improve himself. If only all players had this attitude.
judge
Hello Lads. Glad we haven´t beaten by United in this season, but also gutted by not making a double over them as we d so many chances to perform it properly. Let me put question here: If Barcelona people arrived tomorrow at London offering 55 million pounds for Bale and if that money would be enough to buy both Falcao and William, would you take the offer or not ?? I would...
AlexSpur
judge, just watched a highlight of the conceded goal again and you do have a point, but it's not clear cut. Notice Welbeck charging forward straight to where Dawson is standing. Lennon lets Welbeck go and had Dawson marked RVP, Welbeck would have been completely unmarked right in front of Lloris. The reason I say you have a point is because I don't think Dawson was aware of Welbeck's run, I think he just instinctively stood in a danger zone. Ultimately I still believe Walker was in a great position to deal with the problem, but didnt.
Guyver
I have enough faith in AVB's decision making to not question any of his calls of late. He does concede in recent interviews that another striker would be nice. However, from the options he has in front of him at present, he is making the right calls, most of the time. So, Kyle Walker must be showing him something right during training etc to get his name on the team sheet, week in week out.
Madaboutspurs
Look lads, sometimes when a player like Van Persie, who we all know can be a handful, and gets in those positions, as a defender, for all your effort and determination, and tactical awareness and training ground routines, eventually you just you have to hold your hands up ................................................................................................ and shout offside. It worked for the Woolwich barstewards.
lordjohnny
Any ITK lads? I love AVB an the rumours of him not being happy atvSpurs cos of Levy have really worried me. Why have you dine this to me coops! That's the kind of info I don't need to know lol
BrooksySpurs
RVP is a very very good player. Don't understand why Arsenal sold him to Utd. That's basically saying to Utd that Arsenal are definitely not going to finish higher than Utd this season. Still, not my problem. I am so happy we got 4 points out of a possible 6 from Utd this season. :-))
Madaboutspurs
judge, I think if you watch the goal again you'll see that Caulker had Kagawa, Dawson was tracking either Evra or Welbeck until it was obvious the coss was way long at which point he switched to help. Walker had tracked then lost RVP who was in acres of space. Look at the look on Dawson's face. Wasn't his man.

The Fergie crap is so tiring. Kagawa twice shirt pulled guys to the turf and Evra should have seen a second yellow for taking out Defoe and Caulker was clearly impeded in the box (more shirt tugging). As AVB said, we didn't get many calls going our way. The Rooney play is very often not called because he had pushed the ball way wide and away and was playing the penalty. Dempsey, Defoe, Dembele, Caulker, Lennon could all have legitimate gripes over non-calls and some were in the box.

Lastly, has anyone told Defoe that a lay is not over just because his shot didn't work. He is so quick to give up, put his hands to his head and looked to the sky. If he had the same work ethic of Dempsey, he might just be half poor. COYS
peterballb
I also think that people should relax a bit with the AVB unhappy rumours. He said just a week or so ago, after Adebayor had stated he was going to AFCON that he was happy with his strikers and doubted he would be getting another striker in. He also said before the window opened that he liked his team and that he did not foresee us going looking in the market. I don't doubt that if a right deal comes along that he and Levy will snap it up, but they are not going to mortgage the farm to do it. Diame, to fill the void, would be better than M'Vila etc because he costs 3.5M, is not extending, and is familiar with the PL, so does not need the same settling as the three from France that are being bandied about. He is a solid player and if you had to choose between Diame and Hudd to come on for Parker, I'm sure all would take Diame. COYS

Thanks for the info on Jan sydqcb. Talking about Sydney, I'll be up there for the Australia Day weekend. A little bit of a holiday.

lol, mad, I got asked if I am celebrating Australia day, I will be working they said why it is our independence from England I said Erm I am English!!! so thick they still didnt understand how I would not celebrate against England ... bring on the Ashes so I can rub it in more!!!! back on post BIG,C wtf you on Lennon is class Defoe has improved massively under AVB ... Lennon was pure class yesterday I think you have been having to much wacky backy
E17YID
Lennon has been better than Bale a few times this season already. He may not have the quality of Bale but he can and has given some very good performances this season and has improved under AVB. Bale for all his talent I don't think has lived up to it. He blows hot and cold. He is far better playing down the wing but he still yet to know how to impose himself on a game when he is marked out of it, that means he is not reaching his potential of being world class yet. Lennon for me is a very good player with weaknesses but overall worth his weight in gold to our side. His tracking back is very good for a winger.

Walker once again showed his fragility this was not the first time he has been caught out in the air. For me I think once BAE is up to scratch we should see Naughton at RB we may see some good link up with with Naughton and Lennon like we did with Lennon and Cauluka.

With a top striker and additional CM we could be challenging for top three easily. However, fair play Dempsey has imporved and was much more effective that Ade his all round game yesterday was better than ADe he put in a real shift and he scored a vital goal as he did at Utd. Defoe is struggling and this is why we need that extra special striker. With Ade in poor form and seemingly poor attitude and Defoe hot and cold and Dempsey although improved between them we haven't that prolific goal scorer like RVP with a RVP in our team we would be awsome and Utd have be clever bringing RVP in at a time when they don't have players like Ronaldo any more. RVP makes the difference because he can score from nothing and he is consistent. Something we don't have at the lane.

Well done lads and well done AVB
thfan
I was at the game yesterday... Lennon was good, he turned carrick and others inside out. Defoe should have scored with an instant shot when he was clear, but hesitated and shot was saved. Bale was not in the game really.. 2 good crosses that's all, he had 2 or 3 man utd players around him when he got the ball, so he has to get better at beating them, or passing ball into space available by their players converging on him. so back up support is needed.. BAE used to do this. We had 3 shots saved on their goal line, Dempsey could have scored if he had shot across the goalie.. but at least he did at the end.

We took 4 points from the two Man. Utd. games this season... when we had none last year, so an improvement by AVB and players...keep up the good work AVB and lads... COYS

Madaboutspurs, thanks mate, you are one of the few supporters who will be there to support me and I always fully appreciated that. I swear I must have been watching a different game yesterday and I was there, I thought Dempsey was poor, (as was Defoe) Lennon was by far the best player on the pitch for Spurs alongside Dembele. And as for reinforcements we need more than a striker, our bench was so poor no game changers, would have been nice to have Niko, or even Pienaar on there. Levy get your fingers out, good team, poor squad.
Ossie
Just watched MOTD on Dailymotion. BBC are d1cks, all they talked about was the non-penalty and man utd defending +RVP. Yes credit to how well structured utd are, they stopped Bale and defended like Stoke but could attack and break with pace at any moment. But spurs dominated 2nd half and were the only team trying. Biggest talking piece for MOTD should have been our resilience, never give up attitude and our last minute goal (celebration) of the season to earn a very well deserved point?
T.H.F.Chris
Ossie I agree Dempsey wasnt very good, but the goal at the end saved him from the abuse he'd have got on here.
Guyver
Agree with Madaboutspurs re. aggressive posters, lets just ignore them and have some disagreeable banter without any spite .

I think Naughton has played extremely well for a Right footed LB, perhaps AvB is impressed with him and along with BAE being injured is giving him game time, that along with trying not to dent Walkers confidence by dropping him. Perhaps with BAE back, Naughton may get as chance to impress at RB..Or hopefully Walker will rediscover his form.

Imagine swapping RvP and Defoe in our team, we would have won easily

Bring back JJ and Bentley lol ! COYS
