Some, myself included, insist that this isn't a strong all-round United team, but the facts and results appear to prove us wrong.
Just look at the facts, I'm sure I read that no Prem team has accumulated as many points at this stage of a season and we know that there have been some outstanding teams in the last twenty off years. Add to that a recent record of nine wins and a draw in their last ten Premiership games and despite many believing that United don't have the one - eleven strength of previous eras, they still definitely have enough quality in key areas to be better than their rivals. Perhaps that is as much about those rivals suffering their own troubles and inconsistencies, that United being that much better, but a table doesn't usually lie and even if they are not the best United side ever seen, they seem to be too strong when compared with the best of the rest in the domestic league and were also comfortable in their CL group, despite taking their foot off the game in the final games when qualification was assured. To me, in terms of squad strength, United are no better than City or Chelsea, but what they have and always have had is unity and togetherness for the the goal, Spurs appear to be strong here, however United have the long term belief, based on proven success, whilst we don't.
What seems obvious is that United have plenty of goals in them. Easily the Prems leading scorers and with the likes of RVP and his striking partners, this is a team that isn't just capable of hammering a weak and hapless opposition, but is one that is devastating in and around any opposing area. The problem appears however to be at their own conceding goals that take something away from their gloss of being the biggest scorers, with only WBA conceding more of the ten teams below them. 56 scored in 22 games in outstanding, however 29 conceded is poor for their position and perhaps makes then slightly vulnerable should their strikers forget their shooting boots, just for once.
Spurs of course have an almost unique opportunity to do a league double over United and that feat would be a Premiership first with the last being in 1989/90. Spurs haven't even beaten United at home since May 2001, but is this a Tottenham side that is stronger, more confident and tactically aware than many that walked out against United and even just having that knowledge of beating them at Old Trafford for the first time in 23 years, might be something to add real belief, but in saying that few have that iron belief and will for revenge like Fergie and United, so Spurs will probably have to again hit them hard and very quickly and hope that United leave themselves too much to do, as they did on the 29th of September.
Still without Kaboul and Gallas, Tottenham have the devastating blow of losing Sandro for the remainder of the season, though Scott Parker is more than an able deputy and I feel he will add experience and leadership and perhaps it will be an opportunity for Mousa Dembele to take on a greater role in driving forward, something I feel he hasn't done as often or effectively since returning from injury. The loss of Emmanuel Adebayor may well actually work in our favour as the probable inclusion of Clint Dempsey to support Jermain Defoe and drop back into the midfield, might add strength and brain over brawn quality in a game where we will have to be at our very best.
United have their own problems, in losing Jonny Evans, Ashley Young and Darren Fletcher from their squad, which probably mean we have the Ferdinand and Vidic combination in the heart of their defence, big on experience, but slower on pace. Something to think about? In the midfield, I have often felt they are lacking something, but in former Spur, Michael Carrick, they have a player in superb form, whilst I have also been very impressed with Anderson recently, and Scholes was superb in the game at OT. There is a potential that Cleverley and Carrick will be the starting pair and though both are very good players, I think we have the quality to deal with them, whilst Scholes seems to be running out of steam over a hard 90 minutes. The width will probably come from the under-rated Valencia and the brilliantly erratic Nani. I rate Valencia as an excellent player and his work-rate and defensive work is immense, much like Aaron Lennon does for us, however Nani is someone who doesn't seem to share that work ethic, but whichever Kyle starts, I feel they will have to be n their defensive guard
For me, I believe Spurs should revert to a 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 formation with Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, BAE, Parker, Dembele, Lennon, Bale, Dempsey and Defoe as our eleven. Caulker for his extra pace was in my thoughts, but Dawson's experience edges it for me, whilst Walker or Naughton is a very close call at the moment. What is very much needed is for a strong and organised performance, whoever pulls on the shirt and hopefully we have learned from our sitting back in the away game. Though defeated last weekend, Liverpool perhaps suffered for a lack of attacking ambition and in the final fifteen minutes could have easily got a point or even more. Saying attack is easier said than done of course as the likes of Van Persie only need half a chance to score, but I do believe if we play too deep we will be picked off and I would rather lose and feel we gave it our all that be frustrated at what might have been. This will be a total contract to last weeks parking of the bus and though United will look to create far more and dominate possession, it also represents an opportunity to play our own game and I have a feeling that there could be plenty of goals once again and as long as we score one more I would happily take any score in an enjoyable game in prospect...

4 -5-1 so Dempsey & Parker come in, for the glad he`s gone Adebayor ,& the sad he`s out brilliant Sandro .
Key man for Spurs is Gareth Bale .Most if not all our attacking play has been put on his shoulders .Levy needs to act & get better attacking players in .We`re becoming very easy to defend against
.........................Defoe...............................
.....Bale.............Lennon..............Walker.....
.............Dembele.......Parker.....................
BAE.......VERTS...........DAWS.......Naughton
.........................Lloris...............................
Evra, Nani or Valencia will be working hard down the Manure left-wing.. Pushing Walker into a defensive-winger position (as he can run all day, and is seriously quick) with Naughton at right back... I think Walker, Lennon and Bale as attacking line of 3 behind Defoe and a DM pairing of Scotty and Dembele..
pushing Lennon into that CAM role for the game could speed up the game in our favour... there is to much speed in those 3 AM legs (Bale, Walker, Lennon) for the Manure defence...
It forces Bale to stay out on the left and cut-in... Lennon gets to play the channels off Bale, Lennon, Walker and Defoe..
We saw BALE start his career at left back... and move into the left-sided attacker that he is today...
I think Walker is the same... hes is lightening quick, has an eye for a run, can go past players with speed, he can cross when he puts his mind to it... and we know he has a shot on him...
I have heard loads of fellow Yiddos speaking about having 2 players in every position, for us to say we have the strength in depth that we need. As long as we have good right-back cover in a player like Naughton, i think we have decent right-wing cover for Lennon by using Walker out there on occasion...
I remember reading somewhere that Dembele started his career, and played for a long time, in the center forward position.
Anyway, i think our starting team should be full of pace tomorow, as the Manure CB's are not quick at all...
And after all that, I'm predicting our first ever PL double over Utd, we're due the rub of the green and they certainly won't come to park the bus. COYS
Parker is key to us not losing, the game is built for him as we might not being doing a lot of defending but when we do it is vitally important we get it right, got to stop there counter attacks fast! Lennon and Defoe are key to us winning. If they can produce it'll open things up for Bale and we all know how good he is.
I have a good feeling about today, 3-1 Spurs!!!
I actually felt sorry for the mancs, long way to come down only for the game to get cancelled, then I remembered most Man U fans live round the corner....COYS.
Ox, as I said the other day mate, this site is becoming easier & easier to stay away from & you've got yourself some very sad little people registered on here now & they seem to have no reason for being here, other than to abuse fellow members & THFC supporters.
I used to be very firm in my belief that this WAS by far the best THFC forum on all the worldwide web. That belief has well and truly gone mate, and it's a crying shame!!
I hope the people that played such a massive part in making this site what it once was, are able to enjoy today's game. I hope that the people who have taken this site & wiped their arses with it, are locked away in a padded room for their own safety..
I'll go for a saddening 3-1 loss. I'm not saying that because I've got no faith in our team, our manager, or our owners. I'm saying that because I'm awful at predicting results & usually it's the polar opposite of what I predict, that happens. COYS... IAVBIT... ILIT... FOYG
The only positive I can take from my pessimistic feelings about today's game is that I won't be disappointed, whatever the result.
But then hey, no matter what - COYMFS!!!
As I said, I'm not going to argue with you (or anyone else) about it. If you are cool with the conduct of those that I am speaking about, fair play to you fella. I'm happy to support my club & share my opinion on other facilities where respect is paramount, abuse won't be tolerated, and anyone who dares to question the support of another Yiddo would be instantly suspended or banned.
Peace!!

the genuine people/members on here are fully aware of who they are, they've kept this site going for years. One now wonders how many will hang around whilst this once excellent facility is dragged lower & lower by a few sad individuals.
I can read between the lines and that is clearly directed at me as I had the audacity to suggest your comment was uncalled for. Stuff like that is exactly what YOU said is spoiling this site!!
As far as I am concerned today is match day and all about Tottenham V Man United, save the sticks and stones ****e for mon-fri.
This is what a lot of the "discussions" have come down to lately:
I have only been a member here for just over a year. Having for some time, trawled the www to find a forum where I felt comfortable amongst many informed posters/fans, I chose Vital. As well as the in-fighting amongst the so called ‘spur fans’ the site itself does my head in. It’s the slowest ill-responsive site I have come across. I now refuse to type within the site and instead write in a word processor, then cut n paste so that there is less typo corrections to make. I am sure the response of the site is dependent upon the amount of visual content and advertising.
Also, I participate in a number of other (non-footy) forums and their site/forum layout is markedly more user friendly. For example, the posts are listed in reverse chronological order, thus easier to get to the latest post, their posts have a time stamp, again making it easier to relate to, they have an edit button, allowing typo and other corrections. Most importantly, they have a filter button where a particular poster can be filtered, so all you see is the name of poster but NOT the post. These are some of the features I feel could be incorporated here.
Rant over, back to the match. As always, I am optimistic that we will get something from this game,,,,hopefully, 3 points. COYS!
Been looking forward to this all week
Moaning about bringing down the site by bringing down the site doesn`t make sense. So some people argue their opinions a little strongly ,deal with it ,nothing personal .
I get hammered because i don`t rate Lennon ,my opinion .Some Defoe ,Some Enic , some Levy ,Walker gets a battering ,imo unfairly i like him .Take away the arguing then you are left with nothing .
lets all run around the garden with daisies in our hair like Mary Poppins .
Enjoy the match boys, be nice to each other and most of all get behind The SPURS!!!!
I`ve seen it worse & games have gone ahead so fingers crossed
PS, I always post pics and gif on soccer, Tottenham or girls to lighten the mood of the always discussing forum, so if many people hates those I am fine not do that, for those interested of any gif or pics or links I posted can pm me privately.
Vertonghen ? wanted Caulker in as i rate him ,Dawson worries me ,just so clumsy
Maybe he`s a little ill & struggling for full fitness
Come on AVB. Show me that I was right to be thrilled when you replaced Harry.
Bale ,Defoe & lennon need to offer some sort of threat ,far too easy to defend against .
And when you have calamity Dawson at the other end giving 50-50 balls for Defoe V Vidic , 1-0 is the right reflection
They know we are a one man attacking team .Give lennon & Defoe space not a problem
The game is still in the balance. Get a goal and the fans could well carry us through. COYS
AVB YOU LEGEND
Awesome result. That's why Dempsey was bought. Big goals. COYS
Luckily Defoe & Dempsey proved that we are well & truly covered for goalscorers, especially Defoe who looked a real menace throughout & was unquestionably Man Of The Match.
Great to see that Walker was in no way at fault for the slack marking for Van Persie's goal either, whilst his crossing (Walker's) was world class, especially his amazing corners in the first half. I truly don't understand why AVB stopped him from taking them in the 2nd half?
Then we come to Lennon. What a waste of space that boy is. He did nothing all afternoon & had no end product whatsoever & is so overrated it's unbelievable..
BigC, I am now going to question as to whether you know which of our players is actually Aaron Lennon? Whichever player you were watching was most certainly NOT Lennon. "Far too easy to defend against"? Man Utd quite simply could NOT handle him for the entirety of the fixture.
You need to remember that the manager sees the players in training. You need to remembr that he knows when they are ready to start. You now need to acknowledge that, judging by how 'rusty' he looked when he came on, AVB was absolutely 100% right to not start BAE. Then again, surely anyone with common sense would be able to comprehend that you don't start somebody who has played about 12 minute of football in 5 months, against the best team in the country?
Lennon is so great ,you carry on with that ,because 4th will not be ours .
2 games in a row we`ve got 2 points out of a possible 6 .Liverepool & Arsenal will catch us but you keep sucking Lennons dick .
3 points were there today ,they nullified Bale & let Defoe & lennon loose .But both again poor . 4th has gone if Levy don`t buy ,no way is that a top club performance ,by them or us
Underspur .. 21 degrees....you are being mean
Hopefully the airports will be open tomorrow, back to Phoenix I go .
Lennon was fantastic today.
Fantastic game, perhaps with a decent striker we may of scored a couple more, dare I say it but RVP in out team !
Really cold though ! COYS
They were there for taking & we should have won .That was not a good team we were up against .
Lennon man of the match ,ha ha you guys don`t want Champions league ,i get it now .If i would have known that earlier i would have voted Lennon myself instead of the deserved Dempsey .
C`mon guys let me know when you secretly want 5th or 6th .I love Lennon & Defoe & bring back Adebayor & buy noone ,,yes we might get 7th ssshhhhh keep it quiet
And going back to "coopsieyid the site was cool until you entered it". Well firstly I was on here many many moons before you. And secondly I've been reading the site whilst not commenting fella. After the $hit that you've created on here, and the things you've been called throughout the summer & beyond, believe me, the site has been far from "cool"...
Dempsey is not the best passer but he is certainly a great trier someone who keeps on going till the end. He should have atleast got us 8 points on his own till now. Would rather start him as striker if Holtby comes in.
Odd that the people who were at WHL are also choosing lennon as their MOTM. Did they go to the wrong stadium or something? lol
Also somebody is claiming that an "agent friend" has told them that Diame to Spurs is supposedly being tied up today. Hopefully that's bull$hit!!
The source of this is Johan Elmander, the ex Bolton player, currently at Galatasaray. Comes from his verified twitter account. For some reason he was giving out details.
for Inter, we pay 7.500.000
Johan Elmander ‏@Elmander_9
@Ricky052011 in Turkey there is no tax. He still gets money for each game. I think he get 4.5 every year.
Johan Elmander ‏@Elmander_9
no problem, his contract: 3,5 years, 3.500.000 €/year!
Johan Elmander ‏@Elmander_9
overall last minute news, Sneijder signed for Galatasaray at 19:50. he come to istanbul tomorrow
According to physioroom, Sandro isn't expected back until the 13th October.
tophob - Mate I am not the manager, I don't choose the team, I don't know what goes through AVB's head. All I KNOW is that the line-up may have been a surprise to many of us BUT after the event, and the VERY well timed substitutions, AVB was surely proven correct? I am sorry you didn't also recognise the rustiness in BAE's game, but others on her have mate. That's enough for me to not accept that I haven't completely lost the plot, yet!! lol
HY - 60% possession & 15 attempts at goal against the best team in the league without, as you correctly say, playing our best team. Spot on post fella, in my opinion anyway. One question if I may. Was Lennon $hit today?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_cCtl9ZBE8&feature=player_embedded
Madabout - Always a pleasure mate!!
LJ, back to my question about Alcy & Levy. Alcy did name Levy though, and the comment "This has Levy's fingerprints all over it" etc, is that not a literal example of slander? I ask in all seriousness by the way LJ, you pi**ed up old rambler you lol..
CoysRus (and others questioning Vertonghens omittance). If you check the link I put to the full AVB post match interview, you'd see that Vertonghen was taken sick, wanted to play but couldn't even make it to the warm up/bench.. NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT :)
Sorry for not talking football...
Richard cracknell (@crackersTHFC) tweeted at 0:02 AM on Sun, Jan 20, 2013:
No deal is done til its done but told it is very advanced negs with Diame
(https://twitter.com/crackersTHFC/status/292784055597019136)
The Fergie crap is so tiring. Kagawa twice shirt pulled guys to the turf and Evra should have seen a second yellow for taking out Defoe and Caulker was clearly impeded in the box (more shirt tugging). As AVB said, we didn't get many calls going our way. The Rooney play is very often not called because he had pushed the ball way wide and away and was playing the penalty. Dempsey, Defoe, Dembele, Caulker, Lennon could all have legitimate gripes over non-calls and some were in the box.
Lastly, has anyone told Defoe that a lay is not over just because his shot didn't work. He is so quick to give up, put his hands to his head and looked to the sky. If he had the same work ethic of Dempsey, he might just be half poor. COYS
Walker once again showed his fragility this was not the first time he has been caught out in the air. For me I think once BAE is up to scratch we should see Naughton at RB we may see some good link up with with Naughton and Lennon like we did with Lennon and Cauluka.
With a top striker and additional CM we could be challenging for top three easily. However, fair play Dempsey has imporved and was much more effective that Ade his all round game yesterday was better than ADe he put in a real shift and he scored a vital goal as he did at Utd. Defoe is struggling and this is why we need that extra special striker. With Ade in poor form and seemingly poor attitude and Defoe hot and cold and Dempsey although improved between them we haven't that prolific goal scorer like RVP with a RVP in our team we would be awsome and Utd have be clever bringing RVP in at a time when they don't have players like Ronaldo any more. RVP makes the difference because he can score from nothing and he is consistent. Something we don't have at the lane.
Well done lads and well done AVB
We took 4 points from the two Man. Utd. games this season... when we had none last year, so an improvement by AVB and players...keep up the good work AVB and lads... COYS
I think Naughton has played extremely well for a Right footed LB, perhaps AvB is impressed with him and along with BAE being injured is giving him game time, that along with trying not to dent Walkers confidence by dropping him. Perhaps with BAE back, Naughton may get as chance to impress at RB..Or hopefully Walker will rediscover his form.
Imagine swapping RvP and Defoe in our team, we would have won easily
Bring back JJ and Bentley lol ! COYS
