The Beauty of the Cup

I was fortunate enough to be watching the Capital One cup semi final last night with my mate a Bradford fan.

As he sat there after the final whistle in watery eyed disbelief the beauty of cup competitions could not have been clearer.

Bradford City, a team in the fourth tier of the football league, are in a major cup final. How it happened is unbelievable. Bradford beat three Premiership teams on their way to Wembley. Better yet, one of them was Arsenal.

How much better could it get? And, having seen both legs of the semi, and the quarter against the goons, you couldn't say they didn't deserve it.

I know this is not a Spurs article. I am not just a Spurs fan, I am a football fan. As a football fan moments like this are why we follow the game, and we should unite and rejoice in them when they happen.

So let's all unite and say a massive congratulations to Bradford City and thank you for one of the most fantastic, unbelievable and magical cup adventures of all time!

After beating both Wigan and Arsenal on the way to the semi final, who could deny them their victory. They were by far the better team over the two legs, the first half last night was the only time they were outplayed in both games. Touch of stagefright maybe but their manager sorted that out at half time.
There's even a little part of me that wants to see Chelsea overturn Swansea, as then it wouldn't matter what happened in the final. Bradford would be pretty much guaranteed some European football next season.

Congratulations for all Bradford fans. Totally deserved. After you defeated Arsenal, I thought that anything else could surprise me, but going to Wembley certainly did it. By the way, Bradford fans´ scarves reminds me of Harry Potter movies because of their colours.

Watched last night and obviously supported Bradford, only shock was how close Villa got to winning!

Got me thinking though, all the nostalgia and romance of the cup makes us support Bradford but if you could only pick one winner, out of last nights and nights semis, I bet 90% of us would go for Swansea.

It was great & massive well done .Credit where credits due ...........but however also at the same time it completely devalued the competition .
Priorities are obviously well & truly elsewhere for most clubs & for various reasons .The English Europa cup in disguise

Absolutely, it was great to see Bradford go through. However, spare a thought for the Villa fans. They got their billionaire a few years ago and he has turned out to be less than useless. Seems incapable of even running the club as a balance sheet model let alone as a billionaire. They have a good young manager in Lambert who is trying to build it back up from the ground with a group of talented youngsters. Clearly, the balance isn't right but what can he do about it without support from a useless chairman?

Just so want Swansea to go through then i doesn't matter who gets in Europe. Swansea play good football that would grace a Euro comp. We don't want Chelsea winning a cheap competition because surely the Bradford run will come to an end in the final.

Regardless, this run by Bradford will see them able to reinvest monies hat might have taken years to accumulate. Good for them regardless. They have played solid football and have kept their mistakes to a minimum. COYS

There is our poor goal difference being further exacerbated by Arsenal. Why can we never go all out for goals when the opportunity arrives. Sorry I forgot Wigan a few years ago

spu4life, he would not be one of my choices either, but the price is right. I watched the QPR/West Ham game. He looked awkward, lazy, but I think the eye on that one deceives. He was all over the pitch. Caused tons of grief for QPR in and around the box. For a gangly guy, he had excellent dribbling skills and was beating guys one on one. Was unlucky to not score or have one of his attemts guided it. He looked a decent player, beginning to end. Taraabt, on the other hand looked great, here and there but was invisible for the balance. In the middle of the park, he would be an upgrade on either of Livermore or Hudd. Tackles well. Is imposing. Belhanda was the guy I thought was perfect for Spurs, but that ship has sailed. Sissokho is cheaper and has a far greater upside, so that's where I'd look. COYS

They live and breed scum...Terry, Cole and now Hazard!!! if i was a welsh father in the crowd for that game i would of jumped the hoardings and ripped his head off!! They are such an embarrasment to english football chelsea!! We should stick a cheeky bid in for Torres and give the guy a fresh start he looks like he needs it and he wont be surrounded by twa ts that think there sh it dont stink!!

Stupid of Hazard, though you could understand his frustration. The behaviour of the ball boys was appalling. Made me laugh though - Does Hazard get a three match ban or is it just one match? Shame the incident will overshadow a great Swansea performance. Congratulations to both Swansea & Bradford - both deserve their trip to Wembley

the hazard incident is being overly hyped, it really doesn't look that bad, more like trying to kick the ball, and the ball boy was being totally ridiculous and blatantly time wasting. I doubt it will be an extended ban but probably three matches as it was for violent conduct. damn arsenal though, was hoping for more from west ham

Aston Villa are a joke. I really feel for their fans they are a proud club, but when they get the flags out for a semi final in the league cup against a league 2 side it shows how far they have fallen (falling) Poor management from top to bottom and to think 3/4 years ago they were toe to toe with Arsenal for 4th while we were floundering it should be a wake up call.

I just saw the clip with Hazard kicking the ball boy in the ribs. That looked sooo bad. No excuse whatsover. Ban coming up. That can be work in our favour.

Re. the issue of pop ups on this site, I have in the past been redirected to porn sites. That's not the worse. I am sure at least on 2 occasions in the last 6 years since I have frequented this site, a virus got into my computer. Must say though the porn site redirection has not happened for a while. Darn it ;-)

thfc1882whl, as far as I am aware, the capital one cup isn't the same as the fa cup in the sense that if the winners of the cup are already in Europe, the runners up get their spot. Therefore it doesn't matter that Swansea are in the final, to get to Europe, Bradford have to win the final

Would like us to try and put more effort into the C Cup, after all it gets you into Europe after only two thirds of the season played?? Surely that would help in a final push for a CL place knowing that we can take a few more risks to get results in the league?? COYS

honestly I don't think Hazard kicks the kid (17 year old he cold be a player!), he toe pokes the ball out from under him....he does kick the kids coat and so it looks worse..either way he shouldn't have done it. The more problems Chelsea have and the longer the ban for Hazard (imo one of their better players...damn Arry we almost got him) the better for us....Arse look to be gelling which is worrying....wish Big Sam hadn't just thrown the game thoiugh....

Hahaha just seen the Hazard V Ball boy clip, that is absolutely hilarious. I mean the ball boy looks like a complete and utter chav but you cant go around booting kids Hazard. When I heard it on talk sport I thought it would be a little tap but he proper starts booting the “ball” haha……it really has made my day that clip. Would have been even funnier if the ball “boy” (looks about 20) got up and chinned him. I reckon he could have taken Hazard lol Bit silly of Bale to start Tweeting defending Hazard….bet the Welsh are loving that Gareth!!
