The Boy from Brazil!

So for the umpteenth window we are again going all out for Leandro Damiao or so the ITKs and media are speculating. It seems that he was a teenage prospect when he was first mooted, by the time we get him, perhaps he will be a seasoned pro, or even a has-been/never-been. Some suggest that a deal has been agreed, whilst others claim it simply won't happen. I am going to play safe and sit firmly on the fence, however, if I wanted to play the percentages, I would say that we will again be frustrated with the Brazilian, and as for anyone else…

With talk that Jermain Defoe could be out for a month and Adebayor away at the African Cup of Nations, we really have problems in attack, and though Clint Dempsey is a decent short term option, he isn't a natural No9 in my opinion and is much better and more effective attacking from deeper positions, but perhaps if we are unable to source a short or long term solution, I suppose it is a straight choice between him, Jon Obika or reverting back to the summers pre season and going with Gareth Bale and if all else fails, would that be a serious consideration in preference to other compromises?

Perhaps there is a mini bargain in Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo at somewhere between £12 and 15m, but in reality I have no idea whether he is a serious consideration or the media making up their usual guesswork.The same applies to Hamburg's young South Korean prospect Son Heung-min. His age and ability to sell shirts in Asia might well appeal to Mr Levy, however I have no idea how good he is until my son checks him out on FIFA 13, when he gets home from school. Perhaps we can buy Gary Hooper from Celtic and see the Darren Bent/Steven Pienaar/Jermaine Jenas derision factor make him an instant flop in the eyes of 50% of enlightened fans, in a how to win over fans purchase from the club.

Who, if anyone we get, might well depend on our ability to win the agent war, or pay over the odds in our potential desperation to have a striker. Surely if we lose Defoe until the end of next month, you assume the situation will force the club to find a deal from somewhere. If that is a usual last minute deadline day deal, then so be it. just as long as he is a brilliant player and one that we all approve of...

ADE wont be back for another few games at least, Defoe is rumored to be out for a bit (or at least he certainley isnt 100%fit), i dont really see anotehr option here. We were going to have to buy in the summer regardless, the only question is who is / was our true strike target. If its was Damaio then this would be the perfect window (jan) to bring him in anyway. If not are we going to have to go for our 2nd or 3rd option to bring him in early. Like i said above, i dont really think theres an option. We cant go the rest of the season with what we have, i think that much is clear, but do we go forthe cheaper option like Gary Hooper or that "son" bloke, or do we risk a chunk on perhaps our first chioce target? In all fairness its not an easy decision. What if a combio of Holtby and Demspey was the answer but we buy a £10m flop on a 4 year deal. Theres always a risk in whatever you do.

Deja vu after deja vu after deja vu! This will never happen. Either he doesn't want to come to us or we don't want to pay the fee being asked or the wages he wants. Whatever the reason this appears to be the usual rumour that gets rolled out 2 days before the end of every transfer window to us Spurs fans and, as usual, I expect nothing to happen with him. Much more worrying for me is that I've heard that Danny Graham has submitted a transfer request at Swansea today. Now that sounds like the sort of deal Levy is much more likely to do before Thursday. God help us all!

It's all lies, but I will never tire of reading that we are linked with Damiao, and, against all better judgement, I will get my hopes up and believe that this just might get done this time!

I am facing a very similar dilemma at the moment. I am torn between buying a new TV. Either I pay around £500 for a nice 42 LG (Negredo) and then wait and in a couple of years buy the latest tech (4K). Or I stump up £1200 for a brand spanking new Sony Bravia 47inch LED which has been universally haild as the best LED TV on the market (Damaio). If I buy the LG and save some dosh, I know I will still have to spend more on something better at a later date. If I buy the Sony, I am buying the best that is available and will be sorted for the next 5 years at least.

Levy will talk this deal to death, and then nothing will happen! The other issue with getting Leandro is that when Ade and Defoe are back we will have 3 first team strikers and a manager who next season will move towards playing 1 up top. Levy and AVB will want to avoid that at all costs.

Vic -I very much doubt it but Damiao could be a flop, Willian could be a flop, Negredo could be a flop...like Topspur says £25m on a player is a risk, but its not like you sign a player on the back of 2 or 3 good games. These guys will have been scouted for months at least. Its easy to say when its not my money but i think we have to go big. Any idea if that Willian bloke can play up top? I only ask as he is practically begging to join us? Damiao on the other hand doesnt seem to want to leave. Anyone think that we will sign a complete "out of the blue" player...Pato or someone like that? I dont, but interested to know what the majority think?

vicspur - There is ALWAYS a risk when you buy a player. When that player has never played in the premier league and his family has never lived in England the risk goes up. if there was a risk free way of managing a football club someone would have worked it out by now.

Tomorrow we´ll play Norwich away and if AVB plays Siggurdson behind Dempsey with Obika on the bench then there´ll be no doubt that the 4th positioned PL club does not feature a recognised striker on their ranks. That really gets nearly to either a joke or a cliff edge. Honestly, I can´t believe a club which has jus posted a 4,3million loss will spend 20 or 25 million on a player (Damião) whose current club has no reason to sell him now. Negredo ?? Well, this one could be on the neighbourhood of 12 to 15 million. Too high a tag price as well. Granted Sevilla has to sell due to their financial disarray, but selling one of their best assets for a cheap s not exacty a recipe for financial redemption. Son Heung for 10 million ?? A young, never-tested on PL player for such a price ?? Again, I cannot see it happening. And, that leaves us with Hooper from Celtic if the price falls in the region of less than 7 million. Can he be the right lad ?? I don´t know. No one does, neither he can but after bringing all puzzle pieces to the table and looking how they fit, surprises apart, maybe he will be Spurs No9 forward...

would love to get Damiao but cant see it happening as i dont think there is enough time the way levy does his business,i have read before that he is partly owned by someone else so that probably makes things very difficult.But i dont think Negredo will be a bad buy i have watched him alot of times and his record shows he is quite incosistent but h has been at sevilla a while now so a move to the PL might be what he needs,to finish 4th we are gonna need someone to get us some goals otherwise i think we will miss out again

We need a striker, every man & his dog can see that a mile off, but I can't help but think the fees involved with this lad are extremely inflated. I keep hearing & reading estimated transfer fees upward of £20m & then watch him play & cant help but feel as though I am missing something. He isnt worth £20m; I'd still be uncomfortable if we were to pay £15m, if I'm honest. Maybe one day he'll be worth that, but there is also a huge risk he could flop big time & return to Brazil for a much lower fee. That being said, if the scoutings been done & everyone at the club is in agreement that he is what we need then they will have to bite the bullet if they really want him. Inter don't seem to fussed either way, they're content if he stays & content if he goes, much the same as the player himself, it seems.

Rather than waste time on who we would like we need to be realistic about who we are likely to get (assuming we get any striker at all). In order of likelihood it is Danny Graham (cheap), Hooper (Norwich about to offer £7m so too high for Levy), Negredo (if available for less than £8m so forget it), Damiao (this is just the club's way of trying to look like we're serious about signing a world class striker but unfortunately it never happens). Prepare for Graham or perhaps Hooper if Norwich drop out but that's as good as it's likely to get. In all likelihood we'll not buy anyone so it'll be Ade (once he retuns from Africa) and Defoe (once he recovers from his injury) for the rest of the season. Yipee!!

That´s how United, Arsenal and Chelsea shirts became availablle on every, every sports stores in the last 10 years. we have a very tough fixture list compared to liverpool and arsenal. we really need to win the next two games and keep the pressure on. the defoe injury is unbelievable, lets just hope togo lose tomorrow because even if we sign someone they can hardly be expected to just slot right in straight away so we could do with adebayor who played as the lone striker might gel perfectly with holtby. Ade has not yet played the lone role he was so effective in with VDV, we have to see how he plays when he is the main man again. i really believe that being behind defoe has much more to do with his form this season then finally getting a contract. adebayor can be world class, this is a player we would have dreamed of a few years ago, it is just possible that the striker solution is right there. the key to success is defoe resuming his place on the bench imo

So we have exactly one (sort of) striker at the moment, this lad, Obika. Other than that, unless we bring in someone, we have only one option: Playing a formation that has not striker, e.g., 4-6-0. Yes, I know, you've heard this from me before and some of you are sick almost unto death of seeing me write this yet again. But, the fact remains, we are without a striker, any striker, except perhaps the lad, Obika. So (a) we play Obika, (b) we pretend that Dempsey or Siggurdson are strikers, or (c) we acknowledge that we have no striker and we play a formation that reflects that reality. Come of you strikerless Spurs, COYSS. Take advantage of having brought in L.H. from the German under 21s and play some sort of 4-6-0. cq (crying quietly, the inverse of lol).

I would love Leandro...I have lost all faith that we'll actually try and sign anyone over a £7m...but say we do get him...we have to give him a chance to settle in.....he's not as quick as some would have you believe but he is a finisher....look at Giroud at Arse, they were starting to question him but he's now settling in....not good for us!

Lets not write off Obika just yet? Only for a fantastic last gasp tackle he could have been an instant spurs hero against leeds - the only time we actually looked to play the ball over the top for him to chase. His lack of understanding is down to lack of first team appearances.

glad to see the links to top international players again, if we pay 8-10m for Hooper its a gamble as he is coming from SPL (not saying he wont continue to score goals but there is a chance it will be too big a step up), same with Son young player coming from a different league, although great signing from a commercial point of view his stats seem to suggest he isnt a goal machine. Also with the two above is they are likely to be squad players and what we need is someone to come in and really challenge Ade and Defoe. Damiao would be my preference, agreed he is also a risk and a bigger one if the reported 20m rumours are true but the difference is he an international striker, a brazilian international striker at that, and could have us set for years, another point with damiao is we must have a ******** library full of reports and dossiers on this **** by now, levy probably knows the exact shade of his bellend. If we arent willing to spend that kind of money then surely the 10m or so would be better off being spent on Negredo/Hunterlaar experienced internationals who will be expected to make a difference straight away as that is what we need, an instant impact

I have heard he is actually avaliable in summer, with Inter linked;

The player’s agent has come out and confirmed the many inquiries that he has received over time especially from Europe. “I have not received any offer so far. But I can say that recently many inquiries have arrived and they keep coming. He is a highly sought after player especially from Europe. However, right now, he is very happy at Internacional and finding himself doing very well under the guidance of Dunga.”

And i read this report that AVB was planning for summer aswell;

"Rather than accept a lower-cost alternative – Levy looked at Loic Remy before the France international signed for Queens Park Rangers – it is understood that Villas-Boas has proposed that spending be delayed until the close season when Damiao is expected to be attainable".

We have tried a brazilian goalkeeper (flop), a brazilian defender (flop) and a brazilian midfielder (major sucess) so now is the time to be bold and sign a brazilian striker. Go get him Daniel.

I think 25M on Leandro would be utterly ridiculous. He is young. Very talented to be sure. I have probably watched him 50 or 60 times. At the Olympics, very dynamic. Last year with Internacionale, brilliant. This year, not so much. For that same money we could buy Diame, Son, Hooper, Castaignos. Yes, Son and Castaignos are kids, but they are both playing, scoring and succeeding in Europe. Hooper, yes, it's in Scotland, but his record, as a kid in L1 and in the Championship was quite good. He did finish 3rd in scoring in his first Championship season and then went to Scotland where he again is perennially a top scorer. Diame, aside from health issues (which, given that it has been years really should dot dissuade from paying 3.5M) is a very good player. Not great, but he is strong, fast and causes all sorts of issues for defenders with his dribbling. Leandro would be great, but he is hardly going to step in and settle overnight. We need the striker and goal scoring now, not in three months. Get in Hooper, Castaignos, Son and Diame. The risk is minimal. The end effect is there are striker positions to play for. I would expect Son, Castaignos and Hooper's eyes to light up. Son can also play AMF so it fills another need. Diame steels the MF a bit. They can all score. COYS

Whether Defoe is back 2moz is irrelevant IMO. We needed another striker last summer even after the ade deal was confirmed. Dempsey is doing his best to help out but he’s not a striker. Even if Defoe is back he’s hardly setting the world alight at the moment. No goal in 10 games says its just another typical season where he started off well, then fizzled out. Whether ade is back this week, Defoe is back 2moz or Dempsey borrows Ronaldo’s boots, we need another striker in. Although I think AVB is on the same wavelength as some of us…either buy a striker who we want and will be at the club scoring for the next 4-5 years or don’t bother at all. If we sign Hooper or Graham them IMO we will just have another one to get rid off in 2 seasons time. Graham, hooper etc…are they any better than what we have??

We don't need to pip anyone to get Leandro. He is Internacionale developed and as per our partnership with them, we have a right to match (assuming the player wants to come to us). We don't need to throw money at the Leandro situation. At one point there were rumours that Barca, RM, Inter, AC, Chelsea and United were all scouting him. Guess what, the player is unlikely to come to Spurs and turn down the wages that would be on offer from any of those clubs. COYS

Peterballb that is the choice that Levy / Spurs are faced with. Put all our eggs in the Leandro basket or spred the risk across three or four young and talented players. Say we do buy Leandro and he knocks in 15-20 goals int he next four months then no matter what the price tag he will be seen as a bargain. There is an equally good chance that he starts his first game for Spurs and the opposing defender decides to "welcome" him to the premiership, chops him down and puts him out for the rest of the season and we are back to square one! Where as Hooper and Son would offer cover for each other but may not be as high profile or have as big an impact. Then again how many players have arrived with a massive price tag and performed straight out of the box!

I read that Defoe will either be going the injection route or, if surgery, will be done for 2 months. So, either play injured and exacerbate the situation with his pelvis or fix it and probably be three or four months from a return to game shape. Either way, it sounds like the answer to our striker question (not that it ever was IMO) is not Defoe. COYS

Forget Leandro. obviously the owners are in the driving seat now. When they can set the price, we have no chance. The longer they delay, the higher his price has become. His price is no longer viable for a non-bankrolled club. How much did Man U get Hernandez for? Next to nothing. That is what we should aim for, not 20m plus. Next. As gr testes said, it is too late....we kick season off in deficient state...we may as well lie in our bed now. Obika needs chance anyway. Why do we all pretend as if he does not exist? Kane is younger and got starts before Obika. Good luck son!

Seriously though Peter, if defoe has been carrying this injury for a while (it may explain his dramatic drop in form) then an operation makes a lot more sense, you have to assume that he has already been receiving injections for the pain. Prehaps keep injecting him as cover, until Ade returns but we still need to sign a decent striker!

At this stage its going to have to be Dempsey and Obika against Norwich! Lets see what the boy has to offer and against a team who are int he horrors at the moment!

Slurms, when has a player ever stepped in to the best League in the world and pumped in that many goals. He is not Messi. He is an out and out striker. Very poor defensively and he really doesn't play others in. His skills match what we need but there is no way I can see him stepping in to any European League and hitting the ground running in that fashion. If we brought him in, 5 goals would be an excellent tally for the balance of the season. Hooper, if he was to be "the man" I would expect more along the lines of 8 goals and 3 or 4 assists. If it were Son, I would expect 6-8 goals and 3-5 assists. If it were Castaignos, I would expect 6-8 goals. Son, Castaignos and Hooper all play in more direct Leagues. They are more likely to settle quicker, but to expect any player to step in to a new system, with new players and a new coach in a new League and expect them to be scoring 1 in 2 is counter to what history suggests. We can hope, but banking on it is unwise, IMO. COYS

Slurms, what drop off? Defoe does this every year. Please find me a season in his over a decade career where his numbers were significantly better than what he has done this season? His best year was 18 goals. Everyone kept going on about how great he was. No he wasn't. 5 goals against Wigan, 3 against Hull, 11 in the PL by November 22, 14 by the end of December and he finished the season with 18. 4 goals from his last 16 and, if I recall, 2 or 3 were from the penalty spot. He was terrible. So poor that Harry started playing Pav and we all know he didn't want to be doing that. Pav, in less minutes outscored both Defoe and Crouch down the stretch to get us CL.

If Defoe has serious pelvis issues (if it requires surgery, one can only assume it is) there is no way he is training, working out or doing anything at 100%. COYS

TonyRich, Adebayor was not even able to start for that team. When you have Aguero (probably one of the best 3 or 4 strikers in the world), Tevez, Dzeko ahead of you, you aren't going to start much. Defoe didn't start much last year because we had Adebayor, who was better, especially with VDV.

Balotelli has issues, to be sure, but he is a prodigious talent, he's 22 and has a point to prove. I would have more confidence in him hitting the ground running than Leandro. We need help now, not in 6-12 months (fair bedding in time) COYS

I think it's pretty simple. Hooper is a Spurs fan so wants to come, and we know that £8million will get him. We would no doubt prefer Negredo. If, on the final day of the window, we can get Negredo for the same £8million I believe we will get him. If we can't, we can turn to Celtic and Hooper and get the deal done. I firmly believe we will sign one of those two. Diame as well would be quality. I don't want Son; now is not the time for an untested 20-year-old.

BigC, have you watched Michu? When he does not have the ball in a scoring position he is terrible. Loose passes, little back pressure. I would not have him in my team. We need players who work both sides of the ball. It's not enough any more to just score goals. Messi could loaf around and still score as many, if not more goals, but he works his tail off. If you want to play like Barca (and we should) you need everyone able to go forward and everyone able to come back. THat's why I am very happy with Holtby and Fryers, and why I'd be getting Son in, and Belhanda or Diame. These guys just get football. COYS

To be fair to Defoe when he was having his annual purple patch this season he was also workign alot harder for the team, pressing the bad not give the oppostion time to settle, that side of his game has dried up as well since his regular slump began which maybe down to his pelvis - I dunno. Either way any season he has had a run in the team he has broken down with injury after a few months so he is never going to be our number one striker.

Seb, how is Son untested? Three years at Hamburgh. He has played more and more each year and has gotten better each year. He is 20. 7 goals in 18 appearances is a pretty good number in a tough league. The top goal scorer in Germany is Kiessling with 13. He is technically sound, can take corners and free kicks proficiently and can play across the AMF. He is no more unproven than Hooper and is way more "tested" than Leandro. COYS

Michu is a very good goal scorer a bit like Berby, laid back so looksa as though he doesn't make much effort but he is a clever player and most of the time will do very little but that is because like Berby he is a gifted player. Whether he will maintain his performances of scoring once other teams suss him out is yet to be seen it is too early imo to say he will be a sucess. Often players come to the PL and do well but then fade and sometimes it is the opposite way round they come start slow but become better after a season or so. Imo Michu would have been a gamble but I would like to see how he does over the next season or so before I make my mind up. i remember Modric wasn't great first season. This is where taking a gamble is necessary and often it does't work out but then at times you find a real gem.

Given the apparent losses the club is making and the opinion that we are fed from some quarters, ie. that if the wonderfully astute, Cambridge educated, ‘beckham of business’ Mr Levy can’t make it work, no-one can, I think its time us fans mucked in. I’ll throw my hat in the ring Daniel. More than happy to put the No9 shirt and ‘effing run around’ a bit if it helps. Been playing again recently. I’m 33, probably lost a yard or two if I’m honest but I’m 6’3” so might be of use when Dawson’s playing CB. I won’t get caught off side as much as Defoe (much because I’m unlikely to be quick enough to get there in the first place) and my first touch is maybe a bit better than Ade’s so far this season. Think of me as a kind of Pavluychenko type character only without his occasional ability to hit the odd 30 yard screamer.

You seem to have seen a lot more of Son than me, but when I said 'untested' what I really mean is: new team, new country, new language, new team mates - all at 20 years old. Some players can handle it, but plenty can't and I think both Levy and AVB would see it as too risky. For me Hooper is the go-to guy, unless we get Negredo. I wouldn't actually mind Holt or Graham, both have scored goals wherever they have gone, and both can play second fiddle to Ade if he hits form. (Cue abuse from lots of people....)

Strange noises starting that QPR are intending to make a bid to sign Scott Parker before Thursday. Apparently Redknapp believes we'll consider it now Holtby has signed and QPR are willing and able to match his wages. I can't see any sense for us at all in that deal if it is true. With Sandro injured Parker needs to stay. He's not Sandro but he can do an important job for us between now and the end of the season. I'd be happier to see Hudd sold to QPR instead.

Seb the move from Sout Korea to Germany at 17 must have been quite a shock. He seemed to adapt well and Hamburg didn't have to rush him in. Yes, there'd be oodles of pressure at Spurs, but that's the way it is when you are "the man". Where I think Son becomes risk free is that he can also play AMF so offers lots of options to the team. Then there is the marketing side of things that I would have thought Levy would have been all over. Son could be a great "poster boy" for Spurs and UA in the South Korean community. My 2 cents. COYS

To his credit, he has been pushing the ball forward much better this season and there has been a lot less of the side to side infernal passes. He does give it all though and players like that are of use. If QPR want to shell out 10M for him, I'd take it and buy Belhanda and get Diame in as well. We'd be a little bit out of pocket but 2 of Belhanda, Sandro, Diame and Dembele in the middle with Holtby behind the "fictitious striker" sounds pretty good to me. I am duly chastised that I have inserted IV-VI-nulla into too many posts, so I will post it only in Roman nomenclature for now. The problem, of course, is that the Romans had no numeral for zero, so one ends up with a ********ization that includes a Latin word in place of a numeral. (Alternatively, one could say IV-VI-Huh Oh!) Perhaps this why the Roman legions always played with an obviously attacking striker; they had no good way to describe a formation devoid of strikers! They did wear pretty classy kits, however, and each team had a great banner. But in terms of formations, the limitations of their numerical notations seems to exclude playing a 4-6-0. But, I don't think it's madness to point out that we have no true striker on the roster at present, a situation that demands radical rethinking of how to proceed (or it demands sticking one's head in the sand and pretending that all is normal when it isn't; Dempsey and Siggurdson seem decent enough lads and players, but strikers they ain't).

You can see similarities between them and Barcelona-style football as you listen to all the huffin' and puffin' from the players with 0 being the number of goals scored unless you have Messi in your team. It would be interesting to see if we could become the first team to qualify for CL by drawing every game 0-0 from now until the end of the season. It has come to something when we treat the return of an injured non-goal-scorer as good news.

For all of you saying Damaio could fail, etc, etc, whatever happened to 'to dare is to do'! Here is the reason we cannot lose on Damaio. Scenario 1. Buy Damaio for 25m and pay him 5m a year for years. Payments to Inter over 4 years = 6.25m a year, over 3 years= 7.6m a year. Salary at 100k a week, not much more than our top earner now. He scores 20 goals and we get top 4 or even top 3. CL money = 30m (at least). Profile of club goes up, able to attract better players, build better team and challenge for title. Build on this so we become top 3 challengers and push arsenal and chelsea out the way. Scenario 2. Damaio scores 5 goals and is hailed as worst buy since Veron. However he still excels for Brazil and becomes their No.1 striker. We dont qualify for champs league. Season 2. He struggles again and scores 10 goals, cannot adopt to english game and wants to leave. His performances for Brazil are world class and he is scoring lots of goals. End of 2014 season, he has had an awful season and he wants to move. World cup. Brazil lose to Spain in one of the best finals ever and Damaio is top scorer, golden boot winner. His value has not diminished due to his international reputation. On the back of the World cup PSG make a 35m,25m, or 15m bid (take your pick). In a year and a half, we have paid Inter 10m and Damaio 7.5m in wages. We accept the 15m offer. We lose 2.5m in 1.5 years and dont qualify for champs league. That is the worst case scenario, which is what we are looking at right now. Do, I really have to talk about the best case scenario?

Jezz, Vicspur, I easily can imagine worse case scenarios than the one you describe, but I agree that one doesn't do well in life by such imaginings. Damião is likely to thrive if he comes to N17. I'd be happy to see such a signing, although he isn't playing as well right now as he had been, largely due to lots of niggling injuries. (And I wasn't at all serious earlier when I said we should sign him and turn him into a deep-playing midfielder like the little Mo Fo. I was just trying to make a point about players playing out of position, like our current use of non strikers in a strikers position.)

And yes, the 4-6-0 gauge model train set was great. Had one on the floor under my father's piano when I was a wee lad. It taught me that what goes around comes around, as model trains always run in circles (or off the tracks), much likd football teams with players out of position.

Let's be accurate about Defoe's fitness. If he is able to play tomorrow it is only because he is having a series of painkilling injections in his pelvis so he can actually play. That can only go on for a short while. If we don't buy a striker knowing this about Defoe then I think I'm going to boil my head in the oven!

Defoe has been terrible the last 8 games and a good while before that. Until he scored, I had him as our worst player with Gallas against Villa. He has been awful. There is no chemistry with anyone in our squad, so he either gets something out of nothing or he gets nothing out of something. I have yet to see him beat anyone for pace this season. If he's taking injections, he should not be first choice. COYS

May be this injury Defoe has is why he hasn't done so well recently after a good start. However, it is impossible to know as he does go through baron spells every season. For a player that cost £15 million + that is not a great return & he is far from being a great player .He doesn`t love Spurs ,only himself .Only has love when things are going his way .
I respect Defoe because he has tried his best ,but his best is not good enough .Never has been & never will ,harsh but true .The only person who actually thinks Defoe is a world class striker is himself ,his arrogance does not match his talent .

This so called 'Levy-time' is actually NOT funny and is a bit of a sick joke. Not that happy really. Damaio name being thrown around again. Haven't we been link with him since he was about like 10 years old. Why talk about this in the last 3 days of the window, assuming the rumour has some legs to it. Really, do we have no scouts? Do the scouts only work during the window period? Why or why we all have to deal with this ineptness I cannot understand.

Mad, this is the reality of Spurs. Most strikers out there do not suit what we are doing (ie not good enough or they just are not what the manager want). Most of those that fit, are not, in any way, affordable. Those remaining are likely good enough for some perennial CL teams and they will hold out for that until the last (Levy time) at which time they will accept the likely wage increase to stay where they are, or they will accept us. It's just the way it is. Yes, Leandro has been talked about plenty in previous windows. Why, I know not. Until this window, there has not been any indication that the club was willing to sell or had the player or his agent indicated they would consider leaving. In December comments attributed to the agent and to the club (all of which was later confirmed by comments by the player himself) seemed to indicate that they would consider a move. So, whether it has been talked about for the past 3 or 4 windows or not is irrelevant. It has only been an option this window. I still suspect as it is an unlikely prospect. I believe that there is a list. I suspect we are waiting on Negredo. If he likes our offer best, he will come. If not we start moving down the list. It's why I would have just signed Son a couple of weeks ago. Get the pressure off. He is potential striker and wing option. Fee mooted seems reasonable and he is so technically sound. I could see where he and Holtby could be lethal. There are scouts. It's why players like Vertonghen, Holtby, Fryers and other shave been brought in. It isn't easy living within a reasonable budget. We do it because the continued progress of the club depends on it. The list of clubs who have gambled beyond their means and failed is a long one. I do not like the prospects of Southampton, Villa, QPR. If they go down it's an unmitigated disaster. If they stay up, it's probably just a disaster. And all that is without looking at the consequences of the wages they have undertaken. Their problem, not ours. Immediate issue is Norwich then on to the deadline. COYS

Togo have never got past the group phase of the Nations Cup, but with our shortage of strikers, they look like they'll be there for a while longer.
