Deadline Day Debate!

Bentley, Jenas, Townsend, Hudd and maybe a few more out! But Who in?

According to some, buying or not buying a new striker will define our season. Perhaps that will prove correct, but today will certainly define how we perceive this months transfer activity and perhaps also allow us to review the direction of AVB and ambition of Mr Levy and whether we really can achieve another top four place.

Of course we shouldn't discount what other clubs do and as a result how this will possibly affect ours and others seasons. We could be quite happy with our spending, but if Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool or Everton buy and sell better, and we back to the drawing board before out players have been paraded in their new shirts..

South L/Derry Spurs
Fingers and toes crossed... Lucky charms all lined up... Daniel if u ***** this one up im gonna smash something... BUY A PHUCKING STRIKER LEVY FFS!!!
Mix26
take a second too think about how far up the table we would be if someone could put the ball in the net regularly
South L/Derry Spurs
try a third SLDS
Mix26
I think we will get our wish, but I don't know who it will be! I can see Hudd leaving, and if we can move out one of jenas, bentley and gomes as well than a bonus! I think we may see another midfielder come in, as well as a striker. ***** it, I reckon Levy will have us all fooled and we'll see Moutinho, Negredo and Damaio!
Sebthespur
ughh, haven't liverpool already bought well? sturridge and coutinho and I seem to recall Chelski already bought 90% of the worlds AM's in the summer but have added Ba this window. Arse have kept Walcott and their summer signing Giroud is now bedding in....where's our summer signing? oh he's at a tourny that's only be arranged since before he signed....we had no way of knowing that we'd be left without a striker....(sarcasm)We've already cocked up we're out of the FA cup and dropped league points but hey all's well we don't need anyone....
shedboy2
Striker.....pleassssseeeeee! No striker, no champions league..Simple as!!!
Don Coys
8.41 and Nothing!!!

Really interesting report coming out of Portugal this morning - Moutinho is now 100% owned by Porto. No third party ownership. Surely they have done this so recoup and incoming transfer fee?
Sebthespur
How I wish this would just be a happy day for me!!!!! Sign a striker (not 'Arry's type) and maybe another midfielder. Make my day, Sir Levy!!!
Phil-Spurs
will be a bonus if we get bentley, JJ, Hudd and hopefully Gomes out the door. their combined wage is probably around £10m a year, plus of course what we stand to make in any sale or loan fees
oxfordspur
How I wish this would just be a happy day for me!!!!! Sign a striker (not 'Arry's type) and maybe another midfielder. Make my day, Sir Levy!!!

It would appear that third party ownership is no longer an issue with Moutinho...

Oooopppps, sorry for double post. Too nervous.......COYS
Phil-Spurs
ox- that'll be the same at 8.41 tonight...If anything is going to happen history tells us we'll know tomorrow morning....
shedboy2
I've got faith... but no striker (negredo/ damiao), no champs league, no bale next year... come on spurs...
ledders77
Another day of edge of the seat dross from ssn, and 11pm disappointment for us I suppose?? Was Levy at the game yesterday??
WestStandEnclosure
Ox...08.46 and stilll nothing.
vicspur
holtby looked a great buy last night. would still LOVE moutinho in though. know it won't happen but...
ledders77
14 hours from now and if we still dont have a new striker,I am going after baldy's head.oh feel free to join!!!!!
SilwalYid
ox -5m for Thud, say 1.5 for Gomes...where's the rest of the 10m....can not think of anyone who has use for JJ and Bentley...unless of course we buy a striker like Leandro who can head a ball then Bentley's crosses would actually work....
shedboy2
jenas, bentley out... moutihno, damiao or negredo in. what do u reckon? lol...
ledders77
Moutinho and Damiao.......well a man's allowed to dream. Cmon Levy by......get it done NOW....please.
Phil-Spurs
10 million in WAGES!
oxfordspur
or maybe i should just hire a professional shooter??nah, that would be less fun.
SilwalYid
I always wonder if there will be a shock signing or sale on the last day. for example, if we bought Diame and kept Livermore, would we allow Parker to leave for £5m+?
oxfordspur
Ox- I wouldn't be surprised to see Parker go....he's just so expensive and we know we're not going to get his contract out of him.
shedboy2
I'd still keep parker Ox, even if he only plays 1 in 3. tho he might not be as good as last year, he brings so much to the dressing room and training. trust whatever AVB allows though.
ledders77
"Tom Huddlestone will look to secure an overseas loan move this week with the French, Russian and Turkish windows still open for incoming transfers. The Tottenham midfielder wants regular first-team football as he seeks to complete his recovery from a recalcitrant ankle problem. While Benfica inquired about Huddlestone's availability to replace the outgoing Javi Garcia last week and agreed financial terms on a season-loan with Tottenham, the Portuguese club failed to complete the deal. The French and Turkish transfer windows remain open until Wednesday, Russia's until Friday."
SpursOne2
Well done Holtby last night. Welcome to the Lane Lewis!
ledders77
I have to say that is we don't buy one striker and one midfield player (not the usual last minute desparation signings) then it will be clear that the owners have no ambition for the football club being successful) and only care about lining their own profits). peterbalb has quoted here several times in his excellent posts that the club is now worh upwards of £500m. If that is the case, thne surely £25m on a couple of players is not too much to ask. They would be investments, it is not as though the money is written off. COYS
jonathan01
wages....sorry OX really should open my eyes before I read, it helps sometimes....
shedboy2
will forgive you mate ;-)
oxfordspur
For all of the doom and gloom accountants on Vital Spurs can they please explain to me how Everton WHO ARE A WHOLE LOT MORE SKINT THAN US are willing and able to spend £8.5m on NEGREDO (yes that is the Negredo we were 'apprently' going to buy) and they will still be in business . I keep getting told that f we spend money in the region of £10m then we're likely to go bust and disappear from the footballing landscape. What a load of fecking old tosh. Everton have ambition and an owner that is passionate about his club, understands that if you want to be a serious PL team you HAVE to be in the CL and he is also supportive of his manager. We, on the other hand, have ENIC! Go on Levy prove me wrong! I live in doubt!
SpuriousLife
Can't wait to see Leandro and Moutinho holding up their shirts tomorrow...we all know we're an ambitious club that finished top4 for two out of three years, sacked our manager so we could bring in the best young manager around and will back him....he only wants players Leandro, Moutinho and Willian....well it looks like willian is off to Russia but two out of three ain't bad...is it?....;)
shedboy2
I agree that I would like to keep Parker, but if we needed to generate funds to bring in someone like Moutinho, then I could see someone extablished being sacrificed and at 32, you wonder if Levy and AVB would sanction his sale, especially if we were able to get a replacement
oxfordspur
jonathan01-actually the money is written off, against tax! players are assets. So even Less risk....
shedboy2
spurious-you're instincts are correct...it's a load of old tosh.
shedboy2
JJ and Bentley due to have medicals at QPR this morning apparently! ignoring them as individual players, but QPR are taking one hell of a gamble with their spending. Crouch @5m, Samba @ 10m+ and these lads will want a fortune in wages, with Samba apparently being offered 100k a week. What happens if they go down? even if they stay up, their wage bill will be unsustainable you imagine
oxfordspur
Parker out, Moutinho in....good business....is it me or are we in danger of becoming a team with only left footers??
shedboy2
9.09am in England and 1709h in Philippines and no news yet!!!! I am really beginnig to doubt old Levy boy!!!!!! On his head lies us not getting fourth place this season!!!!! COYS........Striker / FOrward and a midfielder now......
Phil-Spurs
If porto wasn't such a tricky club to deal with we would have had Moutinho in the summer. Not exactly Levy's fault...
SpursOne2
Get rid of gallas, hudd, jenas, Gomes. Bring in Hangeland(out of contract in june), Sissoko, Adam johnson and Damaio.
vicspur
Ox- I just can't believe that even Arry would want those two...
shedboy2
SpursOne2-keep telling yourself that...not levy's fault because THEY are difficult to deal with....made me smile...;)
shedboy2
Good bye Hudds you served us well and could still do a job once fit and given a chance, but how quick you fans are to rubbish a player that got us 4th and CL, too slow i hear but wot aload of crap that is, COYS
spurs50yrs
"The transaction values Moutinho at €22million, some €8m less than the total value of the deal FC Porto agreed with Tottenham for the Portugal international last transfer deadline day. That proposed transfer ultimately fell through because of errors in the paperwork submitted by Porto, with Tottenham earlier meeting problems satisfying terms demanded by Moutinho's agents. Senior sources at Tottenham have said that it would be 'impossible' for the Premier League club to sign Moutinho in the current window."
SpursOne2
shedboy2 - Generally your right mate..we are too slow to do our deals! I think there are some exceptions?
SpursOne2
Lol redknapp already had his first out the window interview. David Bentley? F--k me! Hang on.. Jenas? I love harry redknapp!
micyid
SpuriousLife, Typical totally unfair anti ENIC post! How can you compare Everton to us! We may have two share holders on the THFC board who are worth a combined 4.5 billion, but if we were to spend over £10m or heaven forbid £20m on a striker we really could do a Leeds United! So stop moaning guys! This is Danny Boy's big day, remember! It's what he live for, the big THFC Ebay bargain basement, countdown... He doesn't know who he's going to sign quite yet, cause there's only 16 hours to go... Be patient guys, a lot can go through our DOF'S mind in those last few minutes of the window as he scans the bargain basement up date list... There still could be a bargain basement bargain to be had at the very last second! Look guys we may be out of the title race and both domestic Cups by January because Levy refused to buy AVB the striker and play maker he wanted in the summer, (for Leeds United reasons) but show faith guys, it's only been 13 seasons, 8 coaches, 3 DOF's and over 100 players bought. I know Danny has the worst trophy per season percentage record of any THFC chairman in over half a century, has only made the CL once in 13 seasons, and has never reached an FA Cup final, but show some faith! And as for you 35,000 Spurs waiting on Danny Boys season ticket waiting list, for Christ sake stop moaning. Rome wasn't built in an ENIC day... Sorry for the kind of re post guy. I though peter would appreciate it more here when he wakes up...
pelebro
Can anyone else see the resemblance between the last hour in a nightclub and the last day of the transfer window? Levy has had 30 days of Dutch courage and he's now on the prowl.
muttley
SpursOne - apparently Porto have anounced this morning that they now own 100% of Moutinho with no other third parties involved anymore. Interesting timing to announce that...
SpuriousLife
09.17 and still nothing! Im getting pretty feckin' annoyed now!!...
oxfordspur
oxfordspur - I know mate, Remy as well..they seem to be doing what it takes to stay up! Wonder if there are any release clauses if they go down though?
SpursOne2
Classic one Muttley - made me chuckle. Striker please or we're in trouble.
Zummerzet Spur
so Porto are putting up the for sale notice....but will we see it? You'd think we could offload to Villa....but in Lambert he only wants youngsters...they could do with Parker or Gallas type players...even Livermore, Townsend on loans....
shedboy2
We need to bring in a striker what ever this window or we can kiss goodbye to a top 4 finish. And preferably another wide player. Injury to Bale or Lennon and that be a disaster. I would like to see Ince and Damiao/Negredo/Hooper in. Ship out the deadwood in Bently, Jenas, Gomes and Tom Hundredstone
bunge1
I just read that Danny Boy is trying to flog all his dead wood to Harry... Just as Harry predicted!
pelebro
SpuriousLife - Cheers, yeah for sale or not for sale....still could be too late for us :-(
SpursOne2
bentley and Jenarse to QPR lol
Aussie Yiddo
have said for some time, that Gallas would be a brilliant and sensible short term buy for Villa. problem is that I am not sure we would let him leave at this time without a replacement. I assume he would be 5th pick once Kaboul is back, but what happens if Kaboul suffers a set back and we are left with 3 CBs?
oxfordspur
oxfordspur, stop panicking OX, you know Danny Boy pulls off all his Fantasy football, bargain basement master pieces in the last 10 seconds of the Ebay window...
pelebro
there is absolutely zero panic from me mate. Couldn't give a ***** if other than a few sales of deadwood, we don't do anything.
oxfordspur
pelebro-'Rome wasn't built in an ENIC day'...I would have prefered....'Rome wasn't built ENIC day'....as the pun....;)
shedboy2
They way QPR are apparently hoovering up all and sundry (hopefully including Jenas and Bentley which is amazing if it happens) I can understand why Levy would not back HR in the last few transfer windows. He is dangerously offering over-inflated contracts to under-talented players. However AVB is the complete opposite to Redknapp so Levy YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE. Either spend or accept the title of being a little, bald, tight-fisted accountant.
SpuriousLife
daws, Caulker, Verts and Kaboul coming back...depends on where they think kaboul is with the injury....but I think 4 CB's is enough especially if you compare it to two strikers...
shedboy2
lets hope the deadwood goes first...

Holtby and Adebayor, as i said yesterday will turn out to be a good pairing....

still want a 'Big Gun' signing....
Yidmarks
shedboy2, Boom Boom!!!
pelebro
Gomes to Hoffenheim on loan? That is the latest Twitter gossip.
oxfordspur
Theres absolutely no need to spend the 20m needed to get Moutihno this widow, Maybe in the summer. There is need tho to spend 20m on a striker. Holtby looked a player for the 20 mins he was on so hopefully we have a steal on our hands there. How ***** was Dempsey and Defoe tho!!
spurspanther
Pelebro...be here all day!..;)
shedboy2
I kind of understand the JJ link for QPR.....They are in for Samba so doubt they will get Gallas? And Townsend..he should stay imo. Bentley...just cant see him leaving but on a free. Lots of crap already being spread ha. Basically ask Harry 'do you like this player?' 'Yes..hes a triffic lad...' then link him to them
SpursOne2
Yidmarks,I backed that statement yest re-Holtby/Ade and then i watched Ade play for Togo last night and now i'm not so sure anymore. He was alsolutely useless in front of goal!!
SA's No1 Fan
oxfordspur, writes, "Couldn't give a ***** if other than a few sales of deadwood, we don't do anything." So you Don't want a top striker to help make the CL Ox?
pelebro
If Townsend goes to QPR I will be really surprised as I think we need him as cover on the flanks. Only way he will go will be on a loan deal. Hope the JJ & Bentley deals go through asap!! Any news on Damiao..?
TornadoYid
Why don't we hijack the Samba deal and offload Gallas..?
TornadoYid
SpursOne2, Yeh, JJ is just the kind of player Harry would want to save QPR from relegation! Hard working, never hides, box to box, makes loads of assists, and scores tons of goals... ;)
pelebro
Only 13 hours of the 744 hours of this transfer window left! As usual we leave our transfer business (if we're going to do any) to less than the last 1% of the time available. Now how sensible is that for any sort of apparently well run business?
SpuriousLife
Not for 10m and 100k aweek thanks tornado
spurspanther
@ pelebro, dont misunderstand me, I want a new striker as much as anyone, however I want the right players and not buys or loans based purely on a short term need. To a degree bringing in compromise signings rarely works and could also potentially make bringing in our No1 choices harder or even impossiblele as we then dont have the funds or ability to move on that compromise to fund the new deal. I want long term progression and if that means we dont get a player today and have to wait until the summer, that is the price I am willing to accept. If that means we miss out on CL this year, it is hugely frustrating, but I dont want to see us spend on players that arent excited by what we are building and wont make us a better team for the med-long term
oxfordspur
spurspanther-there's absolutely no need to wait until the summer (31st Aug) for anything, if we need it, now is the time...the summer will bring other demands....
shedboy2
Holtby in means no Moutinho. And all things considered, I'm happy with that. I wanted Holtby as soon as his name was mentioned in the same breath as my beloved Spurs. He's younger than Moutinho, with more potential to develop, and in the current climate getting him for next to knack all is an amazing bit of business. However, this will be the first transfer window where my hopes will NOT be getting 'up'. I simply don't see us pulling in a striker, let alone the Hollywood striker that everyone seems to be craving. At the start of this season, I didn't expect us to finish top four. But of course my hopes have been raised given our results. That said, our toughest games are ahead of us, whereas the other contenders seem to be getting the head-to-heads out of the way. We are seriously missing a trick here, as everyone cancelling each other out is leaving a massive hole that we just don't seem prepared to fill. If we get a good striker for the second half of the season then 4th (possibly 3rd) is well within reach. And if we don't, my money is on Liverpool nicking it. Come on you beautiful Spurs!!!
LilyWhiteHart
pelebro - Anyone short of Messi will struggle to keep them up mate? JJ did help us qualify for the CL with his bag of tricks! I have got time for JJ but he hasn’t played for us in such a long time.....if he doesn’t leave this window he will go on a free as well. ESPN have claimed he is having a medical anyway
SpursOne2
Holtby looked a player in last night's game, quick, showed plenty of energy (unlike most of his team mates), and hardly wasted a pass. The general performance was lack lustre, and in the first half just poor. We were out run, out worked, out battled, and out played for nearly an hour. Everything they did was pacy, direct and they simply wanted it more than us. When Holtby came on we improved either directly due to him or the formation changes his presence allowed, As usual, in the absence of a striker, Bale had to get us out of the *****e, that's 10 in the league, where would we be without him, all this against a team with no wins in 6 games with 1 point. So we are now hours from the end of a transfer window in which we have played 3 drawn 3 an won none in the league, scoring 2 goals in 270+ minutes against the bottom team, the top team, and a middle team in the league, a full set, and been dumped out of the FA Cup by a Championship side, how encouraging, and still we do nothing. With 13 hours to go it is too late for anything involving a quality player, that is not already well under way to happen, apart of course for a Levy panic buy a la Gregor Rasiak, Frazer Campbell or Clint Dempsey. If our results in this window don't spell out our obvious need up front, then Levy must be even less football savvy than I thought he was, and that is saying something.
Frank
it really does appear my ITK really is ITK, first he told me about Sandro's operation the day it happened 36 hours before it broke in the news and last night he told me Gomez is going to Hoffenheim, shame he doesnt bring us any really good meaty positive news.
tophobunty
Just dont think there is any need to buy him at the moment when we have just got in Holtby
spurspanther
More noises from Inter Milan that BAE is on his way over for a medical as part of the swap deal for Pereira. Seems a very strange one that. I hope it's rubbsh. I like BAE but I know nothing about Pereira. Anyway, why are we faffing about with full backs when WE NEED A STRIKER! Aarrrrrrrrgghhhhhhhhhhh!
SpuriousLife
David Villa on loan ... Latest rumour. I'll take it!
jvd
Id go ******** skits if BAE was sold or swapped
spurspanther
SpuriousLife, What do you mean we are not a well run business? I haven't got the stats to prove we are, but wait a couple of hours and peterbaalb (when he wakes up in Canada) will give you all the stats you need, that will prove 100% that we are are a very well run business, that everything is going exactly according to the Enic plan... The stadium, becoming a regular CL club, winning lots of trophy's and lastly and most importantly... peter will explain exactly how Man United, City and Chelsea will all go bust (when the fair play rules come in) and then... Drum roll... We will go on to be Champions of England, the world... It's Danny Boy Ebay Day!!! Wake up Pete!!!
pelebro
If we could move out Hudd, Jenas, Bentley, Gomes, that would be a positive, Townsend his the only left footed cover for Bale and can play right side, but still not certain his going to make spurs any better, so if he goes not a problem. Pierra (spelling?) is a left sided attacking wing back, who is a very good player? Surely the time has come to step up aka look-a-like to Lewis Holtby, look at the photo he does look like his brother, Alex Pritchard and get him more involved, his had some outstanding games in his own level with spurs teams. Ian 'The Moose' Abrahams rounds up the latest gossip, including the news that Tottenham full-back Benoit Assou-Ekoto could be set to make a shock loan move to Inter Milan, with Alvaro Pereira replacing him at White Hart Lane. There is also the latest news from QPR where Harry Redknapp appears to be trying to buy almost every player in the Premier League, including Peter Crouch, David Bentley and Tom Huddlestone. Under all the big news surrounding Spurs about who will be signed, one is leaving under the radar. Heurelho Gomes is off to the Bundesliga for the rest of the season with Hoffenheim. He has flewn out to Germany to tie up the deal, but I for one wish him all th best! Another one out thats potentially 5 now! With all this movement out someone must be coming in?
spu 4 life
pelebro lol...You just paraphrased Peterballb's entire post history. (Although I do actually agree with most of his opinions and always read his posts?) I think we are clearing out the deadwood early today to free up funds - I actually have faith in AVB and Levy to get the job done, both today and for the season...
Sebthespur
Spu 4 life the only thing coming in is extra money on the balance sheet as we bring down our wage bill. Levy has just messed in his Y-fronts he's so excited by the prospect.
SpuriousLife
Proof that you don't need to spend fortunes on a striker, there are several examples in the PL to prove otherwise. How much did these cost, Pappa Cisse, Michu, Dember Ba, Victor Moses, Shane Long, Sturridge, Adam Le Fondre (a player from the basement of the football league who has won several games for Reading this year, and against top clubs), Grant Holt who gives CBs all the trouble they need, ask Dawson and Vertonghen, while he was getting decent service in the first half last night, he simply bullied and battled them out of it. You don't have to sign Carlos Kickaball super stars to get the job done, you just have to get off your arse, and get out and look for the hidden gems at whatever level they might happen to be playing at. It's no good having Champagne tastes and a Lemonade budget, so you end up doing nothing, an throwing opportunities away. Our current "sharpshooting striker" has now got 1 in 8 games in the PL, but "we are sattisfied with the squad, and until Adebayor comes back, we think it is a risk worth taking, and we don't envisage the need to sign a striker in this window" says our manager, obviously under instruction from the chairman, you couldn't make it up.
Frank
The Toffees made the 27-year-old striker their top target after their £8.6m move for Leroy Fer from Twente collapsed yesterday due to the Dutch midfielder's knee problems. David Moyes is encouraging the club to push through the move for Negred, while Spurs also retain an interest in the Spain international having held two meetings this month over a potential transfer. Tottenham have only proposed a loan deal with an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season, while Everton want an immediate transfer providing Sevilla significantly lower their £15m asking price. Sources have told Goal.com that a £9m bid is likely to be enough to land Negredo, with Sevilla in need of funds and the player keen to test himself in the Premier League. Negredo, who started his career at Real Madrid, has scored nine goals in 19 La Liga matches for Sevilla so far this season.

Unless you carry a white stick and are accompanied by a Labrador it is obvious that this team without the addition of some goal scoring ability, cannot, and will not finish in the top 4, it is so obvious, we can't expect Gareth Bale, without any noticeable assistance, to pull us out of trouble, time and time again, his run will stop sometime, who scores then. Our unwillingness to admit the obvious as a club and act is a disgrace.

Frank I actually liked your last post. Agreed. Don't see Negredo as the guy we need looks a lot like a taller Defoe. If the rumour re David Villa is true might be worthwhile. Would be miles better than Saha last year.

I said we should cash in on Benney whilst we can ande it looks like we mat well be doing that if this little snippet is true. Just came across it this morning. ................................................................. Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is prepared to send defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto, 28, to Inter Milan in a swap deal which would take his former Porto defender Alvaro Pereira, 27, to White Hart Lane. ...................................................................... That's all there is on this one so far, that I can find.

Frank - Great move by AVB to move Bale into the middle..excellent option for us given the players we can bring on to play on the right. I actually think besides him Holtby and Sig were our best players when they came on last night. We missed Ade as well

Of course the entire Damiao story is just that, fiction. But I would take Hooper right now, no questions. Whilst I have an appreciation for the fact that DL is not going to spend 20M plus in this window, a player in the 7.5-12M price range is easily doable.
jvd
Spurs are short of striking options at the moment, so expect to hear plenty of rumours about new forwards heading for the Lane today. With the news that Seville’s Alvaro Negrdo has been ruled out there is now a bit of momentum about the story that Lyon’s Lisandro Lopez could be a Spurs player on loan soon. French paper L’Equipe has run the story this morning that the London club could be taking the Argentinian player on loan for the rest of the season. Lopez, who signed for Lyon from Porto in 2009, has been linked with loan deal to several clubs in the window including Juventus. He has scored six times this season and has played fourteen times.

Spu 4 life, looks like a classic Levy deal, we await the following statement from him tomorrow. "we tried, but there were reasons that we couldn't get it done". "the main reason being that I am a tight arsed *****, and I will definitely not pay more than £500, and minimum wage for a striker, so I will stand aside and let Everton, who are allegedly skint to the point that nobody wants to buy their club, step in and take him". "we will be displaying our balance sheet on the big screen before the next home game, and expect a minutes sustained applause". " I look forward to your continued support, and due reverence, in the future".

SpuriousLife I have been saying for a whole season that Benny just isn't good enough for us to get to CL level and stay there. you need to rebuild from the back and that's just what AVB is doing. He obviously sees the same problems with Benny that I do and the majority don't. WE NEED TO UPGRADE ON HIM. That's what we will do if we do the swap.

SilwalYid
Gomes going out on loan to Hoffenheim ,Towsend to QPR ,Bentley and Jenas could be going to QPR as well according to Sky sources. Were linked to Damiao (again) Lopez from inter, Gomez from Lyon and Negredo (Everton have put in bid??). With all these players going out are we finally getting in a big name player??.
DSpurs
Right from what I can tell we could have our pick of: Negredo circa £9m, van Wolfswinkel circa £8million, Hooper circa £7million, Graham, circa £5million. But reckon we'll get Saha and Crouch...

Looks like we maybe shifting alot of players 2day, Hudd to Fulham, JJ Bentley and Townsend to QPR, just need to get rid of Livermore and Gomes and all the deadwood is shifted, but I do hope in the summer we get the numbers back up as the squad will be so thin, can't see us doing well in EL and the Prem with the squad, something has to give.

Madaboutspurs
If we can't get our number 1 signings now why do people think it will be easier in the summer? at the moment we look attractive - finished top4, currently sit 4th a striker would get in straight away with Defoe injured and Ade away...will we look so attractive in the summer if we're outside the top4, having shown no ambition in the transfer market? I think we'll look like charlatans come summer and so much less attractive.

Of course we need to buy the right players, but surely we have already got the quality to beat the likes of Leeds and Norwich. I think AVB should not escape criticism for our previous 2 displays. To me, a lack of pass and move, application and the will to win.

Tophobunty, no wonder you feel obliged to comment on every post I put on. The fact that you think "Townsend is a good player" says it all. Tell me what other top 6 club could Townsend play for.You and Daniel "my boy already" Levy seem so share a common football philosophy.
Frank
matt hoten I think there was PLENTY of pass and move, but most of it was in the wrong directions, ie sideways and backwards instead of forwards.

Seb lets have them its great fun....go one mate, this month has been like pulling teeth lets have a play today, don't censor it..... on that subject Frunk, Townsend is a very good player waiting to happen and the best and ONLY cover we have for Lennon or Bale, if either or both get injured we would look Dempsey paced, Townsend has pace to burn, we should keep him and play him more....anyone else agree with you about Townsend not being any good? Maybe your wife who is also posting on here today Pelebro? or are you one and the same.

Strange happenings RE outs. Bentley, Jenas & Townsend were all supposedly on their way for medicals then got recalled?? Not being funny but WTF is going on. What is more important ?......the right man ? or at the right time ? It could be said....we are in 4th and challenging for 3rd. It could be said.....our conversion of chances, recently, has been abysmal. It could be said, we have no money, unless we sell. It could be said....our strikers are ageing and loseing their abilities. As for criticism.....yes, AVB ..should not be totally blameless, after all, he is the manager. Like he said...dissappointed with the draw. What could he have done more...!? Perhaps...less defenders on the bench....i.e..where was Townsend. He only used two of his 3 subs.....could he have not put caulker up top, for last 7 or 8 mins'...and pressure the goalkeeper. It worked vs man.utd, recently. I feel spurs management might get drawn into playing the table, rather than the team they are playing, at the time.

OLD DOG NO NEW TRICKS - Tottenham Hotspur, who saw a deadline day bid for FC Porto’s Joao Moutinho fail in August, have been handed a great incentive to renew their interest. It was the third party ownership of Moutinho which caused the £20million deal to collapse in the summer as it contravened Premier League rules. However, it has now come to light that Porto have bought out this share of the player’s ownership. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is a long time admirer of the Portuguese international having managed him during his time at Porto and has made no secret of his desire of bringing him to White Hart Lane. Tottenham have already brought German Lewis Holtby into their midfield but with Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley possibly on their way out, Spurs may consider a further advance. "Harry [Redknapp] has a really ambitious vision of the club and I like to work with people who have ambition like that. When I see the squad I see very, very good players."

Interesting that Porto bought the 3rd party ownership to Moutinho yesterday so they now own him outright. Surely if we were to go in for him again then negotiations would be a lot more straight forward this time round.. #Moutinho #Damiao #Levytime
TornadoYid
so both Leandro and Moutinho have been put in the shop window by their clubs....we all know about the 3rd party issues for both of them, we have known since the summer...so presumably has our club...so one would like to think if we want to do the deals, we can....no last minute BS. We've all known for a long time what's needed, and what did the delegationthat went to Brazil do if they didn't pave the way for a deal to be done?
shedboy2
I think what happens today will give a clear indication on how Mr Levy and AVB want to lead this Club. The next level means spending or we sit and stew hoping to be in the CL - just hoping. It sounds like we might get to offload a bit of deadwood - Jenas, Gomes and Bentley. I wouldn't be very upset if the let Hudders go, so long as they spend on a striker. As usual we're linked with everyone. Fingers crossed. If any of you are outside WHL tonight - try not to be a complete plonker on National TV!!!
SPUDMAN
yes van der haart lane, I am glad to announce I have just signed for spurs for 40 mils that will net me 200 mil/w in wages for the next 5 years!

Lets be honest, apart from Damiao's owner / agent once agaoin getting his name in the headlines, there has been no concrete reports that we are signing anyone, and hasnt been for the last week or so. Should we just take it as fact when AVB says we wont be signing anyone. Very Very dissapointing considering our limitations up front. Lets face it, Defoe is back to being as awful as ever. Really dissapointed about this window (like every other window i guess) I wonder what AVB's target for the season was? Top 6? CL? Because he seems very cool and calm about the risks he is taking. If his target was top 4 then i think he's gonna fall seriously short based on last night performance. We were poor in the first half and avereage in the second. I dont see where these many kmnay chances were that AVB was talking about. I saw defoe fluff two chances that was it. If AVB is expecting Defoe to put those away then someone needs a word in his ear.
hudderspur
SPUDMAN - What?? Just hoping?? No...its up to our team to qualify, to try and win a trophy....i don't get how anyone can sit there and say that, with the talent we have and have brought in during the summer. We have spent and we have brought in quality. Its one thing to hope we add to the squad but to claim we can only qualify or win by spending more just shows complete lack of faith in the current squad.

Spursone2, I have good faith in our goalkeepsr(s), defence, and midfield. Our 'strikers' are another matter altogether. LilyWhiteHart - At the start of the season, Ade, Defoe and Dempsey are on our books, as our forwards. Even them people said we won’t get anywhere..' yet we currently 4th? I realise we need a long term suitor for up top mate, but those 3 are capable, each can score and deserve a little credit, and some backing. Some won’t even admit we have 3 forwards. I just don’t like people writing off our chances so easily...it gets my back up! Let’s say same time tomorrow, we have no other player Incoming… Would you say 'that’s it, we screwed?' I wouldn’t. Nor would I then take pop after pop before each game at Levy at not getting another forward in. Maybe it’s just me....do you see where I’m coming from? The only thing coming through the THFC doors today is tumbleweed
JayCoys
Spursone2 – Yes, I would go as far to say we are screwed. Defoe is carrying an on going problem, looks half interested and is having another “dip”. Ade is just looking like the ADE we were warned about. Did you see him for Togo?? Didn’t look like he even wanted to be there. Dempsey is not looking half the player he was at Fulham, meanwhile Everton have strengthen and are looking strong, Liverpool have made some good signings and are playing well, Arsenal have the experience and are pretty used to the situation, coupled with the fact Walcott is looking Dangerous. If it is our aim to get into the CL, keep certain players, improve the profile of the club and increase income then id say we are not going the right way about it. If we are happy with the Europa league and raking a shed load of money from the sales of some of our players whilst spending very little then we are soundly on track. The top teams either bought the players they wanted in the summer or have reinforced now. We seem to have done very little on either front. I’ll give it to Levy, he must be one hell of a salesman. He keeps selling THFC and its future to these players (Hotlby was spaffing in his pants) whilst not really backing it up. Oh well, im sure we can make a good few mill off Holtby when we flog him to one of our rivals in 2014. Yes, if you didn’t guess im not that happy today.
hudderspur
SPUDSMAN/topho - Any more players coming should also realise we have a decent squad..that they will need to work hard to try and break in. Holtby yesterday was great…he had a cheeky few tackles and went in the book, didn’t let his head drop and seemed to read the game well, almost like he had been training with the squad for a while. Moving on, he still needs to work hard in training to fight for that spot. Same for anyone else. We can’t just think…’oh yes striker, all problems solved’. They have to do the same. If anyone can come in with that work ethic and keep another player out of the team then fantastic…we will be better all around. But there is no guarantees…Levy and AVB to me, are trying to take us forwards but it is going to be a hard few months. The team all have some work to do and of course, I would love us to bag tons of goals regardless if we add another forward! I don’t see January as the best time to bring in a top striker…but even so I want the current lads to prove the doubters wrong. We would need at least one of them to strike a partnership with any new forward anyway right?

Spuds-U-Like
SpursOne2-won't have to work hard to break into the team as a Striker (clint may be a forward but he's not a striker) just need to turn up and be fit...as for the best time to bring in a striker now would be better than August 31st...and partnerships - Defoe has never developed one and Ade isn't here. If we sit on our hands the competition within the squad will be low (why do Ade and defoe have to bother?) and there is absolutely no reason we can attract better players in the summer....

This is AVB’s first PROPER transfer window. He has performed miracles thus far with the depleted squad at his disposal. He will have completed his due diligence on the individual players and will have a damn good idea where he sees us heading and what changes are necessary. Of course his discussions with Levy upon his appointment would’ve provided the foundations for this project. IMO, we will not be disappointed and that at least ONE player will be added today. AVB MUST have approved of Holtby’s signing, albeit on Levy’s bargaining terms!. I approve of Holtby’s addition. A brief appearance last night gave very positive vibes and I think he will fit in the project perfectly. So, I am looking forward to seeing whom AVB sees fit to bring in to enable us to push on from here. I like the way he has handled the transfer rumours, though no doubt under Levy’s strict hush hush orders. It’s gonna be a fun day, especially that we have some deadwoods making noises on the transfer front.....which was rare under previous gaffer! COYS!

Press the accelerator I recon we need Leandro for sure or another quality striker I just think getting Dimaio in would be to hard with all the parties we would have to go through a more realistic ones would be Gomez or Lopez. Gallas, bentley(?) and JJ are off our books in 5 mths time, yep only 5mths to carry them if they stay...less time than gylfi has been with us they're gone by july 1st. would be thrilled if we could get rid of bentley and jenas. the other thing that does please me is that harry is not our manager, would rather we buy no-one than be out there bidding for crouch again :0 I think that AVB has shown himself to be a damned good manager, so I hope that if we get no-one in today it is because he is being viewed as a long term manager and will be given time to rebuild the squad exactly as he wants. if we can get his targets then fantastic, if we need to wait until the summer to get the players he wants then so be it. getting players off the wage bill should be the priority to give AVB a fresh start

I don't want to disappoint people so:

We don't need any more strikers. We have Dempsey and Siggurdson to play as strikers and, anyway, we can do without any strikers and play the small-gauge model-railroad formation. Oh, and lest I forget, we've got two world-class outstanding forwards in Defoe and Adebayor (at least some of the time). DL may yet disappoint us and sign some unworthy fellow such as Damião or Negredo, and if he does, off with his head.

I heard from some ITK that we're about to sign Messi for 20 quid. (ITK stands for Idiotic Total Knobhead, by the way.)

I'll start tuning in about 7pm GMT to follow the rumours over the last five hours of the window. It's at times like this that I miss the theatre of Harry the Absurd at his car window.

Cheers!

shedboy2- Its easy sitting here saying get him in but making it happen is more complex. However I agree maybe Damaio could be half done for all we know just heard his name mentioned on sky sports but nothing concrete yet just mentioned as a target from a lot of rumours. RUMOUR: DAMIAO DEAL OFF Telegraph Sport are reporting that Tottenham's long-shot deal for Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao is off. Spurs made a £20 million offer for the Internacional goal machine, and even upped their offer, but the two clubs could not reach an agreement and this transfer looks to be dead.
spu 4 life
Peterbalb, Remy has a relegation release clause in his contract, I would imagine that Samba and any other new signings will be the same. Big C regarding the fairness of QPR spending their way out of relegation perhaps, that's life, business is business. By the way, we should talk, that was the time when Levy got his hand down, when he blew Ramos out, and Reknapp in, and he was afraid of relegation. Every window since we have made a profit, except this one up to press. Levy will be in tears tonight, if he can't sell somebody and get his spend back on Fryers and Holtby, although we have saved a few quid on wages with the loan deals.
Frank
Frank, we have never "worn it" with Leandro because no one from their side was willing to consider his sale until this window, so at worst we will be 0 for 1 assuming we did, in fact, put in a bid. It's all talk. Was it lies with Willian or did a 29M price tag not make much sense? The Diame situation just shows that all of these footballers and agents are all out for themselves. How many times do we hear that some no-name, nevber going to be a name is being tracked by Spurs, Arsenal or Pool. All of a sudden they get improved wages. Diame is now apparently being offered what he wanted all along and what West Ham were refusing to give him. What a shocker? Stories about us in for Rossi and he decides to stay because they offered improved wages. There's lots of interest in Walker and lo and behold, we give him improved wages and then he sucks worse. Levy talks to ther Chaimen every day. They discuss players informally every day. I'm sure actual offers are fairly rare. Asking how much a player would be available for is not an offer to buy. COYS

Frank, so he becomes a free agent. Can he then sign wherever he wants? I'm pretty sure he can ask to leave but there is the small matter of the promised wages. I know you don't like ENIC but there is no reason to misstate what they have done. Last year we had a solid net gain on transfers 30M. Going thorough the records back to the mid-90's (I use transfermarkt, use whichever one you choose), every year was a net spend and some significantly larger than what we made last year. S, generally speaking, we spend more than we sell. That is likely to change though as our salaries are now taking up a great deal more of a percentage of the revenues and ENIC will still be operating within a budget, so the monies will have to come from somewhere. Spu 4 life, "when the window shuts, and it's all over, then we will know for certain". We will only ever know what Levy decides to tell us, like the world is flat, there are fairies at the bottom of the garden, and we really want to finish 4th and qualify for the CL. I would sooner believe Cameron and his cronies and that is really saying something. Tom Pepper comes to mind.
Frank
Hello guys, I'm taking a break from work and still no news from Danny Boy? Just the same old Enic Hotspur fans club members moaning that QPR are trying to buy themselves out of trouble. All of a sudden QPR have become the new Manchester City! Get out of Levy's arse the lot of you! Your tripping on that scrooge miser gas stuff again! Get out the cheque book big Joe and show your doped up Enic fan club members that it's actually OK to spend some of your 3.5 billion before you die... You cant take it with you for god sake... And it's free to be dead! Honest...

Leandro give them 22m and get it done, we get back 10m approx for all the dead wood once sold and this guy plays every week for us and scores goal, which is something none of the others can do, what is the problem in that balance it out he costs 12m? Drrrrrrrrrrr

shedboy, well that's all well and good. Please show me the offer. Every time there have been the "rumours" the club and Leandro's agent have said there is no interest in the player leaving. Only in December did that change. Because I ask RM if they'd consider giving me Ronaldo for 10, does not make it an offer. When you do up the paperwork and make the offer, then it is an offer. W are linked to every player in the world. AVB was at Celtic Park watching Hooper. But wait, no he wasn't. Not interested. It would be a full-time job to discount every single ridiculous rumour out there. Harry wants Kranjcar. Harry wants Bentley. Harry wants Jenas. Has anyone looked at his squad list. What the heck would they do? Carry the Gatorade container? Look, if you wish to discount what the people involved actually said, that's tyour choice. Believe the rumours and the innuendo. We're in for Hulk. Oh wait, AVB was just talking to a former player. Goodness. Here's a prediction. Tomorrow we will be linked with a player for the next window. We make offersd every day, apparently, as rumour has it, so I am told, last tie it was the groundkeeper's dogwalker's frien's son'daugher's husband who was in India and spotted him on the Ghanges. I can't fathom why we just don't stump the 34M for Willian plus the salary. It's only money. Not mine, so easy for me to say. Doesn't have to make sense. 110M for Ronaldo. 150M for Messi. It's ok, we'll have 20M more from TV money and if we win the CL another 60M. We're a shoe in. Not like City, or PSG or Barca, or Bayern or RM or Inter or AC Milan could win a home and home. No way in heck. What do you mean Leeds beat us in the Cup. Impossible. We spent more. COYS
peterballb
Peterbalb ENIC and our diminutive slap headed chairman weren't here in the mid 90s, they have only been around 12-13 years (worse luck) so the period of then until now is all that is relevant. Since the spending spree on the likes of Defoe, Keane, kaboul, Crouch etc.etc. on Redknapp's arrival, which could largely be paid for by the sale previously of Carrick and Berbatov, and in any case in the cases of Defoe, Keane and Kaboul we were still owed portions of the fees, when they had been originally sold. Since then we have more than covered incomings with the sale of outgoers like Modric, VDV, Corluka, Kranjcar, Bassong, Crouch, O'Hara. We even managed to wae into the market for such high profile star signings as Saha an Nelson.
Frank
So still no striker. They do not want to sell Leandro so why has it taken this long for it to have it confirmed? Silly surely we could have found this out before last day, yet another season of potential players only to fall through if they were ever potential deals! Now we go for a panic buy and get Hopper paying over the odds only to find out he is no better than what we have.

@thfan . Dont forget Pritchard (loan). Btw.. Just read that Jenas set to join QPR. any truth in that ?
Spursfan08
We have signed Vertonghen, Lloris, Fryers, Dembele, Ade, Dempsey, Holtby, Sigurdsson, have extended and improved the contracts of Defoe, Lennon, Walker, Bale, brought back in Caulker and Naughton. That's 14 players that we have brought in or "protected" all in the interests of the club. We have also gotten rid of considerable surplus players, and it seems like, at the very least Gomes has been loaned out. It's not perfect. It was always going to take time. Why people freak out at the state of affairs when it's always been the same and when most on here believed we'd be luck to finish in the top 6. Well, we're fourth and have not yet been able to even field our best XI at one time. But goodness, we're fourth, undefeated in the League for some time and the sky is falling. We played poorly against QPR, Leeds and Norwich, but then, these teams need points too. We gritted out results against Norwich and United. Teams of year's past would have conceded a second goal in both of those games rather than scoring to equalize. Long way to go, but it's a marathon. COYS

MrSpurs
Cape Town Spurs - we are progressing but remember there are another fistful of teams in the same position apart from were not in stupid debt.
DSpurs
We will not be bringing in anyone. Which now proves to me that Levy and ENIC can not get the bigger deals done. Leaving us at the moment with a unfit and out of form striker and another who is too out of form. They can not take us to the next level and I do not think they are bothered with what position we finish in. The only way that ENIC will spend money is if we are near the bottom of the league. We only seem interested in getting players out and I fear we will be left with a unbalanced and tiny squad. I think that it also shows that the bids for a striker a few years ago and the Moutinho deal in the summer was all pie in the sky. A trick to show some ambition. I still think that the players we lost in the summer to the players brought in has left us as a weaker squad and first 11.
nothappyharry
bigC, my expetation this year, as with every year since Jol got 5th, was that we qualify for Europe every year by table position. That's my minimal expecation. I was under no illusions then, there was the big 4. I am under no illusions now, we are one of 6 teams that can realistically say they should be able to compete, year in and year out for a CL position. Fact is, we have less recources than all of the others with whom we compete. United and Pool have the generations money. City and Chelsea are playing with Monopoly money. Arsenal caught the wave at the right time. We missed the boat. Cry over the spilled milk all you like, but the boat we missed was the EPL one and that was before ENIC's time. Under ENIC we have gotten bigger. We have improved where we reside in the table. There's more room to go up. The job is not done. We have to compete with the big spenders on an uneven playing field. Oh well. Imagine if we were Reading right now. They have to stave off relegation against teams like QPR and Southampton that are throwing monies that are completely unaffordable within FFPR. I would relegate any team that did not balance their books within the rules. Not playing in Europe is really never a risk with a team in 20th place. That fact should not allow them to skirt the rules by which other teams abide. FFPR are not unreasonable. They expect teams to balance the books just like everyone expects us to do. The fans gain from this. The clubs are protected by this. COYS

I'd like to see this "offer" we put in, give me a break. we will never pay 20m for a player or the finished article. We will buy young and hope they come good and, sell them on and start again. He is or only chance to make this Club a powerhouse once again COYS
ledgespur
you know what Dspurs & 123, having reconsidered your posts I withdraw, some fans are deluded
Cape Town Spurs
People are mentioning FFPR and asking how smaller clubs are able to spend so big, the reason being is that the rules only apply to european competition, so for clubs not in europe and not planning to be in europe for the foreseeable future, FFRP doesn't apply.
Crissybwoy
MrSpurs, you and I and everyone else (including AVB and Levy) know that. It does not mean that we will spend money we don't have or buy a striker that the coach does not want. If he has no desire to have Hooper (as an example) in his lineup, Hooper should not be bought. If Willian is wanted by the coach but the price is ridiculous, he should not be bought. Harry got Saha and Nelsen because Harry felt he needed cover and that's the best they could agree on. If anyone would like to know why I would prefer the DOF system, I'd be happy to explain. It leaves all of this out of the equation (coach's specific wishes and specific deal parameters). The DOF fills the positions as best he can within the budget and the coach coaches what he has. It's not the system we have, so, if they need a striker, we will get who Levy and AVB can agree at the end of the day (literally and figuratively). We'll see. COYS

Usual knee-jerking b****** on here i see. I'm happy with the Holtby signing - he looks excellent. At least we know we are looking at the right kind of players now. I guess the right young striker at the right price is not available right now. Would you prefer we brought in Heskey and Robbie Fowler on freebies? Or bring back Saha? We have Ade and Defoe, they have got us to 4th place so far, we'll be looking at long-term alternatives i'm sure but it all doesn't have to be done in a panic buy on Jan 31st - we've learnt from those mistakes hopefully.

peter, I always find myself in agreement with your comments here. strikers are the hardest and most expensive position to fill so we should not be taken for a ride for silly money. If you're going to spend 20m on someone you need guaranteed minimum of 20 goals a season IMO. However, in defence of thjose crying out for a striker, Defoe is never going to be reliable, Adebayor doesn't seem to want to play for anyone and it is one hell of a gamble to think we'll get top 4 without a quality player in that position. Everton are nipping at our heels and I expect Arsenal to finish very strongly.

the new rumours if they are to be believed is to have him for summer, under no circumstance will they sell now-bbc

It's rather humerous the number of posters who have, in the past, stated that they will never believe anything until they see the player holding the erse and yet every rumour that is posted (what could newsish companies have to gain by having people read fluff) causes people to go off the deep end. We have a partnership with Internacionale. In December and this month AVB stated we remain interested in Leandro. If they are willing to sell and if they will sell at a reasonable price and if the player wants to come and if he will sign on reasonable wages, he will come. If not, he won't. That's how it works. Always lots of ifs to work out but the devil is always in the details.

Pritchard extended, so I am quite happy. Those that run the club are protecting the assets that we have. Awesome job and he goes on loan where he will play. Pritchard, you earned it. COYS

Asherthesmasher, idiot, nothing like the pot calling the kettle black. I am not idiot enough that I cannot see through all Levy's bull***** and bollox, he and his mentor Joe Lewis have been spinning yarns ever since they came. They started with the "new ground mirage", 12 years on, a cleared site and not a brick laid, Levy apparently sacked Martin Jol (his 5th management appointment), in a wonderful display of ethics and integrity, in a cloak and dagger clandestine meetings in cafes scenario, claiming his failure to deliver CL football as a reason, then in successive windows we make alleged high profile bids for players we have little or no chance of signing, and to ensure that we don't, we make them hours from the dead line, too late, and trolley out well worn excuses for "failing". Now with us lying in 4th place, looking a possibility to qualify for the CL, we pull the mat out quickly to avoid it. The cracks have already started to appear, 3 games in the league without a win scoring 2 goals in 4.5 hours plus injury time, and getting dumped out of the FA Cup by an ordinary Championship side, no action. You can back him all you like, I prefer to look at the league table on May 20th, if we are out of the top 4, on his head be it. Mind you, there will be plenty of sob stories, and excuses, for the disciples to lap up. If we couldn't, or rather wouldn't afford, to buy a striker in, then why not a loan? Anyone would at least shake up particularly Adebayor, and to a lesser degree Defoe, although the guy is unfit, and will need bodging up regularly to complete the season. But no, the will is not there as much as he will say, and profess, otherwise.

Frank, you are not in on the conversations between Levy and others any more than I am. I can only go by what they say. They have always wanted a new ground. That's true, but there is no way in heck that a 100M (at most when they took over) club was going to get backing or financing for a new stadium at a cost of 400M (going by Arsenal's cost). Yes, Lewis was always free to reach in to his pockets and stump the cash. But tht's not him, is it. I can't change that and I expect as he will continue to be that way for so long as he owns the club. Matters not whether I like it or not. I just refuse to moan about that. As for ENIC, on the business side, I have no complaints. From, as I said about 100M to over half a bilion in 12 plus years is a pretty good job. New stadium will come. Yes, there are 35k on the waiting list. If we offered them tickets right now, I'd wager we'd be happy to have 20k say yes. Happens in all sports.

"Anyone" would shake up Defoe and Adebayor. Only if they score, and if they do they will play. Holtby looked comfortable. Guess that means 4-5-1 is likely. To me, that means Defoe has a few weeks. After that it's Ade or Dempsey. COYS

Owen Hargreaves, when not injured, is a mile better than Parker. His passing can be sublime and he is a very good ball-winner. But he hasn't played a number of consecutive games since 2007/2008. If he were even close to able, wouldn't QPR have brought him in? He has been training there. There were rumblings Harry wanted him at one point when managing Spurs. It makes no sense to bring in cover we don't intend to use. COYS

not read all the posts....leaving a club with no recognised striker is not good management...sugar coat it all you want, bleat excuses etc it's not good management. And regardless if we sign anyone tonight that's the situation we found ourselves in....to not address the deficiency and gamble again is to not learn from your mistakes...

The latest from Sky Sports News on Internacional's Leandro Damiao is that Tottenham are doing everything they can to get their man in a reported £17million deal, with talks ongoing.

CapeTownSpurs, whih quotes are you attributing to Levy? Rumours made by media outlets shrieking look at me, look at me. Come on. f Levy is in for Leandro, he is in a room, on the phone trying to get it done. He is not selling BS to newsish outlets so they can make up their own crap. The Liverpool fan created a whole storm spreading afalse rumour last week. Really folks, it doesn't take much. Levy rarely says anything. AVB has stated he is a player we continue to have an interest in. Everything else is speculation. Who has the most to gain by that. Levy coouldn't give a damn if we are happy or unhappy. So long as ewis is happy, he will remain Chairman. Since Lewis' share in Spurs is worth an additional 300M in his time as owner, I'd say he's happy. Levy's not hurting either, so I presume he really doesn't care what people who speculate have to say about him. COYS

I think this is bordering on illegal:

Bets flooding in now for Leandro Damiao to leave Internacianal amid talks of a deal being done with Tottenham, prompting his price of a deadline day move to be cut to 5/4.

Sky, i.e. Sky Bet are suggesting the above. Seems a desperation attempt to get their books balanced. Reverse psychology and all that....

Wow - I must say. That Levy-guy isn't given much leeway by some of the posters on here. Noone is perfect, our chairman is no exception. But ...come on... we're about to offload some deadweight (Jenas, Gomes), have purchased Holtby (looked good for 20 minutes, didn't he) and Fryers. Still some FELLOW SUPPORTERS keep spewing all over DL and the owners for not throwing 20 ml £ after a striker or 24 ml £ after a certain midfielder. The same people give DL no, or little, credit for the brilliant buys Vertonghen, Lloris or Sandro (to mention some of the latest additions). Glass is allways half empty. Never satsified. If, and that's a big if, Damiao is bought tonight, the same people will probably say that he was "to expensive" and not "the kind of striker we need". I'm no Levy -apologist or AVB-lover. I love the club. And right now I think the ones at the helm are doing a pretty decent job. The constant moaning has become irrelevant. To quote one wise man: It’s a sad thing not to have friends, but it is even sadder not to have enemies. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
BillNich
Peter, no quote specifically, rather I speak in general. imo & it is only my opinion but that in part is why I am here, Levy likes to lead us all a dance, what he says and what he does not is all part of the act. Most of us respect what he has done for the club (mostly) but with respect to you do you ever say / think an ill word against our chairman?
Cape Town Spurs
micyid, yes what has Levy actually said?
tophobunty
shedboy, sometimes you have to take what remains, and accept that , no matter how improbable, that it must be the truth. I have never heard Harry say a word about not being given players. Many times he bemoaned what modern footballers demand, but that's the way of the world. 2 years ago, Harry stated there was nothing better out there (presumably that we could afford) than what we had in Pav, Defoe, Crouch. Last year, when adding Saha and Nelsen, he spoke of a need for cover. He was not looking to play someone other than Adebayor. I have to presume that AVB knows who he wants. He has seemed steadfast in that. I believe there is a plan Fryers was part of the plan, we got that done. Willian was part of the plan, 34M is a non-starter. He'll identify someone else. Holtby, I don't believewas part of the plan, but he looks to be a player. Plan was altered, he was brought in. Would we refuse Moutinho, who was part of the plan? No way, so long as the price was right. If Leandro, who is a target, is doable, it ill be done. If Internacionale want beyongd our valuation or if the player wantsmore than we will play, the deal will be dead in the water. Good business people always leave themselves the option to walk away. Last ditch bids for players we have no real intention of signing...getting boring now really. Remember that we didn't just have a month to negotiate, we've had frigging years. We've essentially had since the dawn of frigging time. Nothing to say you can't agree a deal before a window opens and yet we get to another deadline day with the same gaping hole in the squad that we've had since Berbatov left. Not at all happy, but oh well, at least we have half a season Defoe and a misfiring (or not even bothering to shoot more than twice a game) Adebayor to get us some glory.

I wasn't even expecting anything to happen really, but how we've managed to go this long without really attempting to bring in more firepower is beyond me. January should be a time for clubs to make tweaks and improvements to the squad to either consolidate or push forward. This complete lack of ambition sends a clear message to someone like Gareth Bale (and previously Luka Modric) that there isn't really much point in staying. Maybe I'm being dramatic, but it really does feel like we only sign players when we're in the s**t.

If I didn't know better I would think that some on here are suggesting to buy any striker regardless of whether the coach wants them r would use them. Buy for the sake of buying. Nothing in what I have seen or read about AVB suggests to me that he does not know exactly what he wants. Nothing in what I have seen suggests he will play players he doesn't want. He'll let you earn a spot, but I'm sure at season's end, Dawson and Hudd will again be told they are not in the plans. Levy learned the lesson with Jol. Don't buy players the manager doesn't want. Do that and it is the beginning of the end. If no striker is signed, they have jointly decided that what is out there, available, affordable is not an improvement on what we have. AVB's comments on Hooper told me all I needed to know. He was polite, respectful, but completely uninterested in that possibility. I have faith.

There is always a back-up plan. ASt some point the back-up plan becomes wait and address it later. If Gomes and Jenas are gone (even if on loan), Pritchard has been extended, Holtby and Fryers signed, it's been fairly productive for the future. Here and now could be better. I still feel that this squad has enough in them to get top 4. It'll take fortune and winning a few we don't deserve, but such is life. COYS
peterballb
Even if it was 17m - it's still a joke. We all know 20 mil would secure it - that's a 3 mil difference. Does anyone (AVB included) not think that the extra 3m, does not help us in attaining Chap league. For all you guys saying we have financial restricted - I get that, but the guy is 23. 20m is not bad bloody value for him. Really disappointed this time - more so than Moutinho.

Just thinking, being a football manager under levy must be the hardest job. Levy rarely gives interviews or makes any public statements (except for the annual legally binding y/end statement). Whether we sign anyone or not, it is AVB who has to face the media and answer questions re our alleged interest in certain players. AVB has to defend why we didn’t sign any striker even if Levy’s negotiations were the stumbling block.

In the absence of NECESSARY signing, I will only assume that the targets set for AVB this season do not include CL football and that he is being assessed on some other Levy non-footy criteria. Hope Levy surprises everyone, but window after window, it’s same old same old. Levy probably thinks he is smart.....but he has been sussed and no one wants to play his game. Sooner or later he will realise this and it may be too late!
Critical_Spur
just because they reject a bid doesn't mean a deal is dead...it just means the ball is back in Levy's court....we've still got an hour before we need to start thinking about it, loads of time....unless of course the bid was purposefully low so we can, yawn, yet again say we tried....(and there isn't any evidence that Inter are lying so we have to presume we did bid)
shedboy2
Boisey is spot on here, we have needed a forward for three years and all we have done is 2 out and one in.....so that = minus 1 when we wanted plus 1 three years back, this one is hard to swallow (unless you are Karen Brady)

Madaboutspurs
We're not suggesting to just buy anyone Peter, or at least I'm certainly not. I'm personally suggesting that we should be organised enough to get things sorted. I think it's naive to assume that because we've not signed anyone it means that AVB doesn't want anyone. This assumption would mean that he believes Jermain Defoe is the best money can buy and that he believes Adebayor is anywhere close to being on form. I think we can do better personally so I don't think it'd be a fickle or knee jerk suggestion that we should sign someone who can push Defoe/Ade for a starting place in the first team. Defoe is injured, is currently aggravating said injury and is notoriously more prolific in the first halves of his previous seasons. Adebayor is currently averaging a goal in 7 games and stunningly is only averaging 1.6 shots a game. Chelsea are dropping points, as are Arsenal and yet we seem absolutely oblivious to the fact we could charge into the top 3 with the right players.

Let's be 100% honest here. There is no way on earth if asked (and he must have been), who do you want to improve the team - that AVB did not mention a striker. No way. All this rational bollox is just that. 2 strikers light for a team at the bottom, let alone a team in 2 comps - chasing 4th and potential the UEFA cup. FFIW I think on the whole Levy has done a sterling job with us, but in life your greatest strength is often you most vulnerable weak spot - and this deal haggling he does is hurting us in our pursuit of a striker. Leaving iot late means we need to pay more, not less. If we were to fall away again this year, it would be bloody criminal. AVB is really finding his stride... a man you hand picked. BAck the guy. Gutted.
boiseyid
Oh come on Daniel Levy! I've always said you've done a good job for us but this is plain ridiculous. 59 minutes left and I tell you there are a lot of unhappy SPURS supporters around the world. BigC, I have aways advocated a DOF. I believe it to be an inherently better system. As things currently stand, the coach says who he wants and Levy, within the scope of the budget, tries to get it all done. People make such a big deal about Leandro. Well, news flash. He has been tracked by Barca, RM, MaU, Chelsea, City, Inter and AC Milan along with us and a whole host of other clubs. Anyone can throw in a bid for him and we would be forced to match. This has not happened. Why? Because before now there was no desire for Internacionale to sell nor for the player to leave. Thus, no reason to do anything but be flattered by bids. If 17M is such a bargain (I believe it is more than Levy considers appropriate and is more than our own scouts evaluations of the player, thus will not happen) why have all these other clubs not thrown their hat in to the ring? Too rich for their blood too. Just because someone is stupid enough to pay 34M for Willian, does not mean we should. 34M for a player rerfusing to play for his parent club. OK, we got it for Modric, but still, it's absurd.

Critical_Spur, you are correct, Levy doesn't say much. AVB's predecessor could never stop talking. Where has Harry ever suggested that money was not available to him? He stated his scouts didn't think Suarez was a fit. Fact is, in taking the job, AVB knew, as did Harry, as did Ramos, as did Jol, that there was a budget that needed to be adhered to. It's a fact of being the coach of Tottenham. At least he is not having players foisted upon him he doesn't want and we are extending and protecting the assets we do have. COYS

Towsend to QPR on loan? Stupid imo, what happens if Bale gets injured, townsend is our only other natural left winger.

Do you think this squad can keep 4th ?
I wanted a striker because i don`t think it can .Last 8 games only one top team we have played .We have some major games coming up & hindsight will (again ) be no good come end of May .
Even QPR look better than us now in some positions ,embarrassing when you get shown up by Harry "not my money " Redknapp

Tonwsend to QPR too! We are running out of players soon. What the hell are you doing Daniel?
Jables
Towards the end of the Berbatov/Keane era, Jermain Defoe was our 4th choice striker. Now he's very much our first and I think there's something bang wrong about that. Despite claims at the start of every season he's ever had at Spurs, he really hasn't improved much as a footballer and has never reached 20 Premier League goals in a season. If people are satisfied to the point where they're questioning fans' frustrations at not getting a striker in then I'm a bit concerned.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
how many players have left spurs there is a huge amount after coming of the wage bill
krafty007
Oh my G... Can you imagine that we'll be watching Defoe shoot at the goal keeper, and missing chance after chance. Anyway at least we're shot of Jenas! This is news for celebration! Ox might be sad though. Jenas is unfulfilled potential.

If spurs lost 4-0 to arsenal in the champion league finals, i wouldnt feel half as bad as i do now.
SpursSnM
BigC, yes I do think we can get fourth. I think we could also get as high as third or as low as 7th. If Everton avboid injuries they will be strong. If injuries hit them, it will be worse for them than on any of the other 6. Chelsea have a ridiculous fixtures list and are very much Jeckyl and Hyde. Arsenal look good one minute and horrid the next. Liverpool are on a run, but they have issues too, and again, a couple of injuries and it could all go sideways fast. WBA are already falling out of the race. So, if any of those teams correct what ails them, they will have a good shot at it. If we keep playing well defensively and if the goals start going in, we can get third. Shame about Sandro, but we do have cover. If Everton lose Fellaini, Liverpool Suarez, Arsenal Walcott, those teams will be hurting. We'll see. It's a marathon. All games this time of year are tough. You have to get points where you can. Opportunities lost against ManU, QPR and Norwich or were they three key points earned? Long way to go. The story is not over. I heard a commentator over here take utter offence at the suggestion that City cannot retain the title. Nothing is yet decided. COYS

topho- yes people not seeing through the usual levy ploy after all this time does make me laugh.we needed a striker, did not have to be him. why repeat the same mistake as last summer.he had a whole month to get one if he was serious. tough you and bill nich cant except others opinions if they differ from yours, but this was a forum, last time i looked.to not get a striker is criminal.IMO
topspur53
We don't know if any of these figures going round in the media are accurate. It's just speculations. Maybe Inter want's 30 millions for Leandro and Seville 15 millions for Negredo. If they want to sell a player name a price and take it from there. If not, leave it. Even the most modest posters on this site say that we should buy this guy for 8 million or that guy for 9. Are the prices official or? Is there a store where they sell football players? Same thing with Bale. We will get 55 million for him. We have already spent that money according to some. Where and when did anyone confirm that figure? It's just bull. Please do not mention any more fantasy figures if you don't have the information, which you don't!

Jables
I can't believe that we're stuck with Defoe. Why didn't Harry bid for him?
Fanman
Peterballb, I hear what you say, but I have to contest a point about the budgets. You cannot have a fixed budget defined at the beginning of the season. You have an indicative budget as you don’t know which players are sold/loaned and what the income/expenditure (squad-wise) is likely to be. It has to have some flexibility. Furthermore, like several posters have cited, the CL qualification entitles you to xx million in revenues. So here we are knocking on the door of CL and the whole world sees a void in our strikers department. IMO, it would be foolish, poor business acumen and from fans angle, criminal/travesty not to recruit in that area. At this moment in time (squad-wise) I am sure we can get away without another mid-fielder, but surely NOT by just having a flat-lining defoe and disinterested Ade has our CL strike force.
Critical_Spur
If we sign no striker you have to ask where is our back-up plan? Even a loan move for a striker to fill the void for the season would suffice, yes it's not ideal but asking Demspey to play out of position and relying on defoe when he is off form is a recipe for disaster.

Saying that im over the moon we have shifted jenas, also see simon dawkins on loan at villa.
spurfect one
So we have freed up some first team squad wages from sale of JJ, loans of Gomes. Pritchard, Smith, Mason and Dawkins I doubt were on high wages neither Townsend if he goes out on loan. There doesn't seem to be any news re Bentley, he will not go unless he gets his high wages. Doubt we got much for JJ so in fact we have not really done much that will make much difference financially.

Interesting what ssn say about how Levy works they say he knows what he is doing.

I guess we only have forty minutes before we are put out of our misery.

Sebthespur
I hope someone is testing that fax machine in Levy's office with pre-dialled numbers ready to go!
Critical_Spur
BigC, I don't think they put all of their eggs in the one basket. Leandro is who they have identified that they want. If he came now, as I have already stated, he would take at least 2 months to bed in, if not longer. Sandro was lost his first few months. They just are not willing to spend money on a solution that does not meet the needs of the now or the needs of the future. AVB will talk about it. Decide whether you think he is a puppet or whether he has a plan. I believe there is a plan. I see it taking shape. More players will be added in the summer.

I have put the names Son, Arnautovic, Castaignos, Mitroglou and others out there. I like all of them for my own reasons. I understand all of them could be got. AVB and Levy have more info than I do. If they don't want them, that is their choice. I have been banging on about Castaignos since he was 17. I would still buy him. Just because I want to does not mean that they do. We liked Oscar, but 25M? City, Chelsea, PSG, Anzhi and others make a mockery of the system and drive prices through the roof. Remy feels entitled to large wages. For what? He has been poor this year and has not proven anything. 20 year olds on 70k/week. It's insane. Harry lamented the fact, but his new owner, just like Pompey and West Ham, has splashed the cash. The salaries must be huge. No matter. Harry will say, the owner signs them, not me. IMO Levy is accountable and responsible. If Spurs fortunes take a tumble, so do his. COYS

What we have left: Lloris, Friedel, Archer (free-pick), Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Gallas, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Caulker (free-pick), Ekotto, Fryers (free-pick), Lennon, Bentley, Sandro, Hudd, Parker, Dembele, Livermore, Bale, Siggy, Holtby, Dempsey, Defoe, Adebayor, Obika. With the amount of games we have left, nobody can say we're short of numbers. It's the depth and quality that is questionable though. We just have to hope we get no more Sandro type injuries from our best 11.
muttley
@Fanman. City did actually sign a striker today. Forgot his name. One for the future I guess.

Peter - So you think we can get fourth because all the competitors have problems. You're evidently happy with a house built on sand.
Hot_Spur
Critical - if Harry puts his arm around him, he'll probably get injured again :-)
muttley
Critical_Spur, our budget is not fixed, per se, but it is linked to revenues. There is flexibility. I had not ever heard that Holtby was a target. He was available at a fabulous price and we were interested (Freund). He wasn't to be part of the plan this year, but I think that AVB recognized that we need someone with better vision and possession skills. We adjusted. I'm sure if Moutinho were available or Leandro at what we condiered fair, the deals would have been done. It would have put us in the hole, but I'm sure it was something that could be costed. Buying players to fill a perceived hole that the coach doesn't want is a pointless exercise. If AVB doesn't want Son, Castaignos, Hooper et al, it doesn't really matter that they are available and affordable. Defoe is not part of the plan. Holtby ideally will be behind an up top lone striker. I expect Defoe will be given until Ade gets back and if this garbage continues, it will be Ade the rest of the way trying to rekindle the VDV/Ade combo. AVB's own comments suggest as much. AVB was not going to buy a striker who did not fit what he wanted. I am much more impressd with us having signed Holtby and Fryers and getting Pritchard on to an extension than worried that we did not sign a striker who has been out of form and will take tme to settle. COYS
peterballb
Exactly big cockeral. Apparently gone are the days of buying "the next..." People seem to get the impression that buying a striker means spending silly money. Not always the case at all. Apparently we've spent 5 years not bothering to scout players.

Fanman
Grand plan,? There isn't one. You wouldn't be making desperate last attempts to sign a much needed player if there was. The top clubs don't get involved in this kind of farce each window. Why would it take Damiao 2 months to bed in? Looks as though it has taken Holtby two days. To dare is too dear. Indeed, nice one.
ParkLaneBB
Don't get me wrong though, delighted we've signed Holtby, looks like a player that we've been missing. What I wanted was an intelligent forward to go with our intelligent wingers and an intelligent attacking midfielder (Lewis Holtby). If we signed an intelligent forward then we'd have no real weak links.
Bernio Villas-Spuras
When you look at it, in January we have offload Cudicini and Jenas whilst on boarding Holtby and Fryers. We've helped Gomes and Dawkins get closer to leaving along with Gallas and Bentely who within 3 or 4 months will be gone. We've also given Smith, Pritchard, Townsend etc a chance to play football. Whilst we spend the next couple of days bemoaning the lack of Damaio, let's not forget that in other areas of the playing side we've moved things forward.
muttley
JJ is a likeable dude when he's talking, but detestable on the pitch. Good luck to him.
Fanman
just got back to see the latest developments. oh well. this talk of now we can't get fourth is utter crap though because the only striker out there who could realistically make the biggest impact on the rest of the season is a certain mr adebayor. Ade, like most strikers needs to feel the love, he hasn't this season. everyone says its because he has his contract but i think that is bollox. he was always ahead of defoe in the pecking order under harry and now he is playing second fiddle. i don't blame AVB completely because ade wasn't fit for a long while, he then got sent off against arsenal after finally showing what he can do for about 15 minutes and then he has been played with defoe which never works. he has all the attributes to lead the line and play the lone role, it's what was so effective last season with VDV and it is the only thing we haven't yet tried this season. the one position where we can see the best from our most talented striker and we haven't tried it. we now have our vdv replacement in holtby who showed immense proportions on his debut and this could be the missing link. Adebayor when on song can hold the ball up brilliantly, he is also very unselfish and can link the play well, him and holtby could be a fantastic combination with lennon and bale on the wings. I would love leandro for the future, he was never going to make much of an impact this season in any case, he has just played a whole season (albeit sitting out a lot with injuries) he would also take time to adapt and settle just as sandro did. yes, its annoying to go through another window empty handed, but the only striker we desperately need to see getting on a plane right now is adebayor
Guernman
Hot_Spur, the only house not currently built on sand is that of City and they have too few games to keep the masses happy. I am not happy with the situation but would rather do small things and stay with the squad we have than try to prop the sand up with a bunch of straw and twigs that you'll be stuck with for years. Dead wood is almost all gone. We have a very young team. We might lose Bale. OK, but then he could leave for bigger pastures even if we had CL. Seems to me Nasri might still be in the CL if he'd have stayed at Arsenal. But he has more money and that's what it is about at the end of the day. Modric is on wages we would never have paid him. So was Berbatov. So was Carrick. These are facts. If RM or Barca or PSG offer Bale 170k/week, he would be foolish to say no. We would be foolish to let him go for anything less than our valuation. Peter, I agree that in an IDEAL world AVB should only consider buying (bringing in) a strikers that HE feels he needs for his jigsaw. But I am afraid the lack lustre performance of our strike force this season tell me that If AVB can not get his 1st choice, he should be opting for his 2nd choice (plan B) to at least give it a good go for CL qualification. The last 6-7 matches would've highlighted the gaping hole in our team.

Defoe is so predictable. If he gets the ball around the 18 yard box, he's going to try to make space and shoot. No looking for a better poisitioned player, just shoot... If he gets the ball wide he's going to pass it and run to look for a position where he can shoot. His whole game is based around shooting. He's a striker so yeah, but he could do to get his head up and pass too sometimes.

AVB is long term I hope, better that he gets the squad he wants rather than panic buys. We have already brought in a fantastic keeper and a CB who made us forget the loss of King, we have a midfield pairing of sandro and dembele and two fabulous wingers. we have brought in a seriously talented player in holtby, seriously *****ed off ferguson with fryers and did sign a world class striker, captain of his national team (lol) who was good enough to play for arsenal, city and real madrid before we bought him in a deal many claimed would never happen. its not all bad people. the best of all is that if defoe is not fully fit he may finally be dropped and ade can finally play the lone role

That might give some Spurs fans a hard on but not me. I can honestly say I'd be happier if we were in the bloody Championship and showing some desire to improve than this constant life of the perpetual bridesmaid because Lewis and Levy are too tight to pay for a fecking wedding. Well, I am resigned to believe that there was a plan B i.e., If the striker issue was not resolved, by recruiting Holtby, who I hasten to add seems promising, we may be looking to limp across the finishing line playing a lone striker from here on. Our strikers, especially of late, have been non-existent. So, why not change the formation. A good repertoire of midfielders behind a lone striker. As long the goals get scored and the results produced, no one would complain. Assess at the end of the season to find out if Levy/AVB gamble has paid off. We just have to believe and players have to produce. COYS!

Well, you have to at least try to smile
Hotspur 1882
but top this was the chance for Bale to work with a decent striker...that won't happen now...people will try and spin this but we've been left short.
shedboy2
Peelbros. Those you want out have in this window just purchased more players than the equivelant boards at Man U, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton...................I say Out the lot of them, what do you say Peel? Are you out yet?
tophobunty
And the spinning begins....how many other teams only have one recognised injured striker able to play?
shedboy2
Tornado...the Townsend deal is very puzzling...very. It could have been an option to play him left side and have Bale floating up front, which could be better than Defoe or Dempey floating through quick sand up there. also if Bale gets injured (likely) he is a much more natuatl replacement than the rather speedy Dempsey and Siggy........
tophobunty
SHhed, but who was that decent, PROVEN...(prem) striker, available and willing to sign for us. And how do you mean Bale work with him? was Bale suddenly going to stay left and feed things on a plate to this mystery man?
tophobunty
hudderspur, I DO take offence. I think you will find that you cannot in fact combine "no offence mate" with "shut the ***** up".
Guernman
Some teams play the false No 9. We've gone one better. We've bought one.
lordjohnny
123spurs..... 4th but missing a vital ingredient, Sandro. With Defoe playing whilst needing an op, Adebayor being the player we were warned about and Dempsey (although improved) mid table quality at best. We'll be 10 points shy of 4th come May and still the ILIT brigade will be banging on about how astute he is.
Got some news for the Levy fans who tell those of us wanting better for our club to go support City or Chelsea. It might be an idea if you took your support to a mid table club with no ambition because that's what you're backing when you defend Levys policies on the playing side. Jeez I even saw someone yesterday calling for Odemwinge (what a class act that lad is eh?).
Our owners are a disgrace, the more they do nothing, the more I'm starting to believe that they will sell our best players and sell up before building a stadium. They will of course also own plenty of prime real estate in N17 and Chigwell, Levy is after all is said and done. A Land Economist, not an accountant, not a football man, not a true negotiator, just a Land Economist. Be afraid, be very afraid.
thfc1882whl
Apologies about my last post, I know we all support the same team and wouldn't really like to see anyone go support another team. Just sooooooo peed off with our lack of ambition and guts.
thfc1882whl
guernman-shame ade has no shot on him.
topspur53
Guess I'd better just get used to the fact that we're going to become a club that see's the Europa League as a big enough shop window to tout our best players in. Still, the bank balance will look good and that's the main thing after all.
thfc1882whl
thfc1882whl....we all know how you feel and can empathise. Think the main thing is to "Pray"..everyday, that Bale doesn't get knobbled.....many men (inc' Enic)..will cry if he does get done.
82spursdebut
Defoe is shot to heck. Adebayor is a shadow of what he was last year. Dempsey and Siggurdson are not strikers. So, we play the second half of this season without a striker. I don't need to articulate what formations we can play that have no striker? Or we play 442 or 4231 or something of these sorts without a proper striker filling in the slots for the formation. Frustrating, ain't it?
Total knobhead
bale will leave because he is ambitious, not through human nature,ffs,thfc1882- dont apologise, the ILIT brigade would say the same to you. at least we want some ambition shown.
topspur53
I don't think Ade is happy playing behind Defoe in the No. 10 role. I also think he doesn't like playing with Defoe full stop. There have been numerous times this season when Ade has been in a good scoring position but Defoe just shoots instead of passing and of course blasts it wide or high. The look on Ade's face said it all. I think he has become discouraged, I suspect playing him up front on his own might re-vitalize him. We all know what a good player he can be when he's up for it.
Hot_Spur
adebayor will come back full of confidence, he has now had a decent run of games and defoe will be used as an impact player, defoe made himself imposible to boot out of the team, after no pre season and a hamstring injury of course he wasnt going to come bck all cylinders firing, with the added impact of holtby who really did apear to be the missing link in the team on wednesday we will go from strength to strength. added to that the return of kaboul i have no doubt we will seal fourth, the only shame is a top striker would have taken us to the next level
spurticus87
Absolutely thfc, your post vilifying the ILWT brigade is superb, and long overdue. It is now apparent that there are 2 distinct camps, those of us who support an crave the continuous improvement of THFC and those of us in the ILWT camp who stand for, believe and indeed support, the devious two faced habitual liar that is Daniel Levy. The differences in each are so entrenched that they will not be resolved until Lewis/Levy fulfill their ultimate objective, to enhance the value of the business by strangling investment, sell it, and disappear over the horizon, hopefully never to be seen again.
Frank
and so another transfer window closes with no fully fit in-form striker to speak of and still we buy no one......i suppose as a spurs fan/supporter/yid(can i still call us that?) we should be used to this level of disappointment.......BUT.......this is different!we HAD a real shot of 4th place and a class striker would have given us that edge.it could have woke ade up and maybe defoe would have had to prove that he is just as good as the newbie by actually scoring goals again.alas, there is no newbie and defoe and ade,(who may go AWOL for a few days after the African nations),are now automatic picks upfront.OH MERCY!!!.........i read this forum every day even if i don't comment, and it was clear that a new striker SHOULD have been a priority as it would have sent out a clear message to the clubs around us that we were seriously pushing for the 4th spot at the very least.a new striker wouldn't have been spending money for no reason, a la chavski and manc city.it was what we NEEDED.holtby now has to hit the ground at warp speed and hopefully wakes everybody around him.last point:did levy forget that we have lyon in 13 days time?
g. roberts testes
We should change our motto from To DARE IS TO DO to Look AFTER THE PENNIES AND THE POUNDS WILL LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES, in levy we rust
whitehartmart
Adebayor is a mercenary money grabbing *********, he hasn't and will never change, he turned up late for the season start, to suit his own ends, he got injured, Christ knows how, he only ever walks around, then he buggers off to Africa to be the big fish in a dried up puddle, and when he actually manages to fit us in, and plays for Spurs, he does so with an aire of somebody who really wants to be somewhere else, he was like it at Arsenal, and Man City, an since we we daft enough to give him a full time contract, because we were too tight and too lacking in ambition and foresight to buy a proper striker, and he would do, we are now lumbered, who is likely to take him off our hands.
Frank
Frank-GOOD OLD HARRY!he got rid of jenas for us.
g. roberts testes
@thfc1882whl we were a midclub table for years just to let you no
123spurs
It has got sod all to do with Harry, it's about the owners of a football club showing a modicum of ambition and a will to consolidate on a decent start to a season, an to push on and ensure a 4th place finish, and CL qualification. That's what transfer windows are about the process of "continuous improvement".
Frank
We await the statements re the Damiao farce. No doubt they will mirror those made in the summer re Moutinho, just bollox. If we had genuinely wanted to buy him would we have started in the last couple of ddays of a 31 day window, and if the reason for the breakdown of the deal was as SSN stated, that his club din't want to sell him in this window, we should have known that by Jan 2nd, and moved on. Of course if we had a genuine football person (DOF) conducting transfer business instead of our "jack of all trades" land management graduate, come bean counter, come budding property tycoon* we might make better progress, but unfortunately just might spend some money, hence the current arrangement.
Frank
123Spurs, we were a mid table club OK, but at least we weren't fed a diet of lies an bollox suggesting that we were striving to be something else, as we are now. How many of the ILWT brigade were convinced he would come up trumps on dead line night, as he has before, and his ego demands he tries to do again, only for him to fail dismally, if indeed there was ever an intention to make signings which is doubtful.
Frank
123spurs..... I know we were mate, it's just that for two January windows now we have been on the cusp of something special where a calculated risk could have seen massive rewards for the club. A lack of foresight, ambition and most of all guts from the board room has let us down yet again.
thfc1882whl
"Champions League qualification rests on the shoulders of Defoe, Adebayor and Dempsey!! Not at all. Along with those three, Spurs are allowed to play eight other players on the pitch at the same time.
