'If It's Football, It's Vital'

West Ham United vs. Tottenham Hotspur

This game could have been the hang over game on the back of a disappointing European exit but Dembele`s last minute goal at Lyon will see Spurs arrive at the Hammers Boleyn Road Stadium with a different mindset to what it could have been. At this stage of the season 3 points from games like these are the minimum requirement .

AVB will be facing Sam Allardyce's so called long-ball merchants. The long ball league is a statistic that is not mentioned that much but West Ham actually play as many long balls as Barcelona and Real Madrid? Liverpool, who are supposed to be taking the short passing game to another level under Brendan Rodgers, average 66 long balls every match. These are the average number of long balls played, on average, this season by the teams who finished in the top four: Champions Manchester City (54), Manchester United (56), Arsenal (49), Tottenham (61). As for the rest of the Premier League; Newcastle (78), Everton (69), Reading (67), Wigan (67), Chelsea (65) Fulham (64), West Bromwich (64), Aston Villa (62), Sunderland (62), Norwich (60), QPR (59), Stoke (59), Swansea (55) and Southampton (51).

Allardyce has a specific system in place designed to hunt down the opposition and take advantage of teams who want to play The Beautiful Game, but play it badly. The idea that Allardyce takes training at Chadwell Heath each day with full-backs launching endless long balls towards Andy Carroll or Carlton Cole is a myth though.

At the beginning of the week, Allardye`s Coaches take training and Allardyce has input from the sidelines. They play small-sided, passing and pressing games to take time away from the players and put them under pressure. As they build up towards matchday, Allardyce`s role becomes more prominent and he is heavily involved on the training pitches. On Thursday and Friday, like most teams across the country, they practice set-pieces ahead of a Saturday fixture. Even then, for a team tagged 'long ball`, they have won only 50 per cent of their aerial duels this season. Allardyce has always been prickly about the accusations that his teams know only one way to play, but he has adjusted to the demands of modern football. At times they might kick it long, but on Monday night they might just join the culture club.

The two teams meet at Upton Park and Hammers chiefs do not want to see a repeat of the scenes that shamed the club at White Hart Lane earlier this season. West Ham will take a zero tolerance to fans who taunt Spurs supporters with anti-semitic abuse on Monday. A message will be in the matchday programme warning fans to behave and the east London club will come down hard on anyone caught causing trouble. Spurs fans were targeted by anti-semitic thugs in Lyon on Wednesday night, and were also attacked by Lazio fans in Rome last November.

Off the pitch there are rumblings about big Sam going after his contract ends in the summer. West Ham co-owner David Gold insists there is no job for Paolo Di Canio at Upton Park and that they intend to open talks with current manager Sam Allardyce over a new deal. However, The Italian is a cult hero with Hammers fans from his playing days at the club and a section of supporters, unhappy with Allardyce`s style of football, want to see DiCanio as boss.

However, Wet Spam are currently in 11th place, 6 points above 18th placed Reading, only twice have the three promoted teams from the previous season survived relegation. Reading and QPR are already in the dog fight and West Hams recent form would suggest that they could also be dragged in.

It`s difficult to assess the Hammers side, James Collins could make his return from a hamstring injury against Spurs on Monday night? The Hammers went off to Dubai for some sun but Collins didn`t join them instead the defender stayed behind to continue working on his fitness. Errors have been made by Collins, he'd admit this, however with The Hammers in need of getting some points on the board to remove any niggling relegation fears having the Welsh internationals experience to call upon in defence will help.

Given the up and coming fixtures we face 3 points will be very welcome. It will be interesting to see, if Andy Carroll is in the side, who are two CB`s will be. Will Kaboul be used? Mousa Dembele looks like his form has deserted him and we need someone to boss the middle of the park. Will AVB play Ade up front with Holtby just behind or will Dempsey be in the hole? What would be your preferred selection?

Surely we play about 30 more long balls when Dawson is playing? :-)
muttley
Probably Dawson and Caulker to take care of Carroll. And I agree with the bit about Dembele. Apart from the goal against Lyon, he hasn't really imposed himself in recent games. Maybe Holtby to recreate a central pairing with Scotty akin to the Modric-Parker partnership? Siggy to attempt a VdV impersonation?
hiano
try dembele in CAM role behind striker ....in wont hurt us even if he loses ball at that position...holtby to play on dembeles position...
Navaneeth
For me this is a huge, huge game. A 4 point gap before playing Arsenal next Sunday with the change to go 7 ahead of them cannot be overstated. Not only that but as Bale's decided to run his mouth and claim Spurs have overtaken Arsenal I'd rather not look like a bunch of fools as we could be behind them by the end of next week. I genuily believe the next 2 games will define our season.
oi.you.there
Totally agree Darkenvai. As long as it is mixed up. Don't suppose any one remembers our second goal v Forest back in the late 70's I think. Aleksic hoofs it on to the head of Archibald straight on to the head of Armstrong on to the right boot of Hoddle past shilton and into to the top right. Ball didn't touch the ground until it hit the back of the net. I'd like to see a 4-1-2-3 Parker Sitting in front of the CBacks. Holtby and Dembele playing in front of Parker with Lennon And Bale either side of Ade. COYS 3 points a must.
strawboy
Dark venal, perhaps the"only arrow in your quiver"?? Quite appropriate. I expect a tough game again. I also expect to win. I believe the team feels the same way because they are building confidence. Dembele has to play and yes I would play Holtby behind Ade. Lennon and Bale are obvious. I can't see Kaboul starting as he has just got back to training. He's a couple of weeks away. AVB may start Caulker for his air superpremacy to counter Caroll and more firepower on corners. If that happens it would mean Verts plays on the LCB. Walker rightBAE left Lloris in goal.
jvd
o.y.t, completely agree, I feel this is the more important game, if we fail to pick up 3 points Ar5ena1 will have a massive incentive to beat us as they would overtake us to claim 4th spot. Further to this, we may have the opportunity to leapfrog Chelsea if they don't win at Citeh today.
TQ2Spurs
very important game to take our intentions to Arsenal next week. We lose they are only a point behind us and that will give them a huge incentive to do us over and go ahead of us and I feel that will break our season mentally as the mental strength of Arsenal has shown time and time again to be there when needed. Secondly a draw also gives Arsenal the incentive to over do us and go above us whereas a win for us changes it all as a Arsenal team facing us four points behind I feel gives us a strong mental attitude to do them over and get seven points above and sit more comfortable. Today we could do with a draw between City and Chelsea or a City win.
thfan
thfan how about a Chelsea win? The theory is that it would virtually guarantee United the title (let's face it they've won it already). City would hopefully then lose heart and have an end of season collapse also Chelsea are so up and down that we might even get second. To dare is to do
In-spurs-ational
Big C agree with you but it's not waking up so much as gaining form. Having seen Arsenal v AV yesterday I would think that Lennon would run wild on the right as Arsenal were unable to stop AV. I trust AVB to have his strategy worked out to start the match. I look for Ade to com through against WH tomorrow. He's getting more and more into the game.
jvd
City 2-0 up. Game over I think. If we beat WHU tomorrow, we´ll be 3rd and go to the NLD with upper hand. I hope AVB is able to instill this spirit into the players.
AlexSpur
Chelskum down by two to Man Citeh. We can pass those *#&#(s. We can pass them by. Must get three on the morrow, lads. The Skum are breathing down our necks and Chelskum are there for the taking. We need the full three points on the morrow, lads, we need the full three on the morrow. Third place on the morrow. And pad the lead on the Skum. Match of the season to date looms on Monday.
Total knobhead
I wish that Parker didn't have to play. He was our worst player against Lyon.
Fanman
Chelsea have been quite workman like today, no cutting edge. Hopefully they get worse. It'll be great if we beat the spammers and go 3rd.
Fanman
That's it. We go for third tomorrow. COYS.
Total knobhead
It's getting exciting now City will win Chelsea today. Arsenal were not convincing yesterday although they will go all out against us next week - so don't be fooled. Tomorrow is a game that will display our belief or non belief. Will we choke again! Hope AVB can get us performing and get our mental state up for it unlike HR who just wasn't up to the final hurdle. COYS
thfan
3rd is in our hands. let's not see it fumbled away. steady, lads, play steady. Calm and together.
Total knobhead
Would like to see Bale on the left tomorrow - go back to basics stay calm and put a shift in - I think we start with usual back four - Dawson captain. Start with Dempsey for his physical presence and see how we go.
thfan
THFAN not back to basics, on to AVB's strategy. He will have his game plan in place to attack WH weakness. I was always confident in his ability but I'm even more so now. Love how he changes our play at halftime to overcome any first half deficiencies. COYS!
jvd
for me tomorrow is the biggest game of the season for us so far. then it will be next week, then the week after. whilst we are still in with a shot every upcoming game from now is our biggest of the season. AVB should let the players know this. if this was a home game, three points in the bag, however West Ham are a different team at home so we need to take the game by the scruff of the neck an let our quality shine through. next week, everything goo about Arsenal runs through Wilshere. stick either Parker or Dembele on him like glue an that will make it a whole lot easier. as for tomorrow, Caulker an Daws should be the CB pairing for me. i would consider playing Naughton however he is not very physically imposing esp against a team like these. Dembele an Parker must move the ball forward quicker an be smarter an sharper with their passing. COYS!!!
BrooksySpurs
Why oh why did Sandro get injured?
Fanman
Anyone other than AVB who thinks about the Skum match in a week isn't focussing where he should. Take three points of Spam before even admitting there is an upcoming Skum match.
Total knobhead
BrooksySpurs, that's the problem. Neither Dembele or Parker are any good at passing. Holtby is probably our best passing brain.
Fanman
TK. do you reckon we gamble an try Siggy or Holtby there taking either out or leave it as it is as we seem to be getting the results. not sure i or AVB would risk it when it has tbf been getting us results. I disagree with you thfan though. I think Bale having the free role would cause havoc as I dont think they have a footballer smart enough or disciplined enough to be able to mark him out the game if he has a free role. Lyon were different, they had some very smart footballers. But of course I would still like him to tear down the left on occasion. Swap roles with Dempsey or hopefully Holtby
BrooksySpurs
sorry meant Fanman

The next three league games will define our season. West Ham, Arsenal, Liverpool. Could easily end up with just 1 point out of those three. Of if we perform like we can and turn up could easily be 7-9 points. If we win our next 2 there will be 7 point gap to 5th. We play liverpool and Arsenal play everton. That game could go either way. Arsenal look totally devoid of confidence. Bit like last year when we played them and lost. Such big games coming up. If we win our next two i think top four will be ours as i don't think mentally Arsenal will be able to close 7 points in 10 games. Esp as they don't have anyone who can carry the team. RVP carried them last year and when you have someone like that you know as a team you always have a chance. Bit like us at the moment with Bale. lets get third. Then our summer transfer policy totally changes. COYS
Chirpystheman
What a ridiculous behavior a player from Swansea has just shown at Wembley. Has anyone seem it ?? Dyer wanted to take a pen so that he could bag a hat-trick. Since another player is the one who takes it whenever it happens, Dyer was nearly taking him the ball to take the pen...Players cannot think they are bigger than the club that pay them to play. They are playing a Cup Final.
AlexSpur
And he was really upset everybody else was telling him De Guzman should take the pen as he usually does. He even refused to celebrate his club's 4th goal and an historical title. What a selfish man. Hope our Gareth Bale does not follow this road.
AlexSpur
wow this boy Yago falque is great player just scored a goal and 2 assists i one game.
vedospur
Well said Chirpsy. Anyone else think that ref was a complete mug for sending off Duke?? Some things are just wrong, sending him off was
BrooksySpurs
so you think Dyer is in the wrong. Seriously 3-0 up against 10 men. Dyer has a chance to set a record of being the first person to score a hat-trick in a league cup final. Surely you give him the ball and say good luck. De Guzman should have given him the Pen regardless of being penalty taker or not. if it was 3-3 then its a different arguement but considering the game is done. When else is a player going to get a chance to score a hat-trick in a cup final. its not been done in 54 finals so shows not often.
Chirpystheman
i agree brooksy. with the score as it was no need to send him off. Bradford never gonna score 3 let alone 4. And Alex Dyer did congratulate De Guzman. They showed him hugging him. so your wrong for saying he refused to celebrate.
Chirpystheman
With games coming thick and fast, AVB will need to use all the formations and combinations mentioned above. It's really now down to him matching up to what the opposition are capable off. I don't think we're going to murder anybody but if we can keep the good defensive discipline we've shown and take our chances we won't lose many. Now is not the time to break the two DM set up in favour of a more gung-ho attacking approach. Any 2 from 4 CBs and any one from Dempsey, Holtby and Siggy, and the rest of the starting line up picks itself until JD and YK return.
Love totty
Lads, I do undestand and respect both points of view, however, regardless of the score, imho, if there is an official penalty taker and he steps up to tak it, he is the player assigned by the manager to do it. Dyer could ask him to take that one, but wen given a "No" as aswer, shold have accepted that and stepped away. If you rememer, Bale chose to go for the goal rather than passing to Defoe when we were 2-4 down at the Emirates and he stated, very recently, he was looking for a hat-trick against Newcastle and trying to shoot at every available chance even if there was a team mate in a better position to score. What if Newcastle manage to equalize as they nearly did ?? I know the situations (Bale/Dyer) are different, but, for me, he principle does not change. But, again, I do respect your opinions. Finally, when I said he didn[t celebrate I meant other players run for e Guzman and Dyer did not. After a while De Guzman and he exchenge a hug.
AlexSpur
chirpystheman, while I sympathise with dyer, how many times will de guzman have a chance to score a goal at wembley in a cup final? ironically he now has a minute or so to himself be the first player to score the hatrick

Only focus right now has to be three points tomorrow. 3rd remains in our control. A win tomorrow really mounts the pressure on both Arsenal and Chelsea. No worries Brooksy I'll share, I had Norwich, Utd, City, Watford, Tranmere, Bolton, Sheff Wed and you guys and I'm getting just over 340...been 1 team away for the past 2 weeks now, decent money from a small wager.

I agree with what your saying BC and Alex designated Pen taker etc etc However its more about the team spirit. Newcastle earlier in the season in a game they were home and dry in gave the pen to Cisse to try and build his confidence. He went on to miss but the team weren't selfish and even went against pardews orders to give it to him. I just thought it was in bad spirit by De Guzman to deny a player a hat-trick same as when Nugent stole an international goal off Defoe. Sometimes you have to put others before your own personal Glory. Bale shooting from all angles etc is totally different scenario. in the circumstances they were 3-0 against 10 De Guzman should have done the honourable thing. I know i'd have given the pen up to a team mate. Maybe thats just me though. COYS tomorrow. Massive massive game
Chirpystheman
Oy Veh- How many long balls do West Ham actually play? You've given details of all the others, except the East End pornsters.
lordjohnny
It was twenty years ago today, that Bobby Moore died. They will be well up for this game and will be playing for the memory of old Bobby. I have a nasty feeling they are going to win this rather than us lose it, if you catch my drift.
chrishove123
IMO, this will be the biggest psychological game bar the Gooner’s game. A defeat here and we leave the door open as per last two seasons for others to spoil the party. A win and our tails will be well and truly up for the following game. I expect AVB and the boys to be fully prepared for this and produce the desired result.

We really DO need some of the misfiring individuals to start contributing though. Reliance on Bale and lady luck can only take us so far. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Given both Arsenal's and Chelsea's results this weekend, this has now assumed the "must win game" status. We will then be 3rd 2 points in front of Chelsea, and still 4 points clear of Arsenal. Everton losing has probably dropped them out of the frame, leaving the 5 of us to fight out for a top 4 place. Of course it would be ideal to finish 3rd, more prize money, and straight into the group stages of the CL.

Well we can but see what happens now can't we as AVB backs Ade. ........................... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-vs-tottenham-preview-1729382

For all of you who love to go round quoting all those lovely juict stats, I agree wioth AVB on this, they are a load of old bollox as they mean sweet F A. ... The striker has scored just once in the Premier League since November and will be relieved to hear boss Andre Villas-Boas claim that the Prozone statistical approach to football is “useless”. "For me it's useless, but it depends from coach to coach and it's different, different approaches. The Spurs boss said: "I don't use it because I don't believe [in it]. Normally players are related to tasks and certain tasks might not achieve specific physical data that rewards premium efficiency in terms of a physical performance. "But if they do the tasks properly it's what you want as a football team. You always have to be very, very careful with statistics. "The mind and how the player feels is much more important for us, rather than statistical data."
chrishove123
Such a huge, huge game. Would love another Bale show, id rather somebody else stood up to the plate for a change though. Time for Adebayor to prove hes worth 100k p/w
HuddersfieldYiddo
My team would be Lloris, Walker, Verts, Daws, Bae, Lennon, Parker, Dembele, Dempsey, Bale, Adebayor. Bring on Holtby with 30mins to go and hopefully his energy will give us that boost to win what i predict will be a very tight game, id rather him coming on than off for Dempsey!
HuddersfieldYiddo
Massive game! I hope AVB has given enough rest to the players from the EL for this one, and has them prepared for tonight. We have to go out there and play our best to get the points. We need our strongest team please. Verts, Demebele, Adebayor down the spine, Keep Holtby and Sigurdsson ready to come on. Bale and Lennon to continue the fine work they have been doing all season. Oh and ***** off Arsenal…. COYS.
SpursOne2
Wet Spam like to get the ball wide to the full back's which creates a better angle for lumping it on the edge of the box, then attack the second ball. It will be interesting to see how the ref deals with Kevin Nolan from corners, as his main objective is always to block off the keeper, the referee being HOWARD WEBB. I think AVB will go with Lloris; Walker; Dawson; Caulker; BAE; Lennon; Parker; Dembele; Bale; he may side with Dempsey who has a habit of scoring against west ham and also for his height defending corners. Ade up top.

On the subject of the League Cup, not only have Swansea now equaled the entire ENIC trophy haul, along with Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough, they are also wearing that dream all white, totally classy Adidas kit that Daniel Levy has refused to give his customers for what will be a period 18 ENIC seasons when the current contract with crap Under Armour expires in 2018. Look and learn from little Swansea Danny boy...

chris - I love those quotes re: Pro-zone...I remember berating Jol for putting too much emphasis on pro-zone at one stage (to his credit he did relent) The stats are a tool and can be quite ueseful but they are just one tool in a managers box of tricks....
shedboy2
as for the game...they will sit deep and be in our faces in the middle and final third. They will be physical but they will try and get free kicks by going down easily themselves so Webb and Walker beware...Holtby will need to keep his discipline as they will try and niggle him in order to get him booked, they'll hit Bale and Lennon hard early on to try and knock the fight out of them...they have a game plan....let's hope we have a better one!

Arsenal might be our real rivals, but where I live it's all west ham, I got 4 gooner mates and about 20 hammer mates, same kind of % where I work so this is the game I get most stick for, and the fact west ham are, and have always been, $hit makes it worse so come on boys.

Chelsea's loss has put more pressure on Spurs to get a result. We are now playing for third place ahead of the arsenal game next week. This will be a tough game tonight but I expect our away form to continue and Spurs to get the result. I predict a 2-1 win by Spurs! with us scoring both in the first half and then dominating the possession in the second half without ever threatening to add a third and Wet Spam to nick a goal from a set piece with about 8 minutes left to play.!

Sweating over this one - the Hammers' "Cup Final", but we need to play our game and take the three points in our stride. I'll be glad when it's over and we restore the 4 point lead over the Gooners, ready for next week.

Bobby Moore died 20 years ago of bowel cancer at the age of 51. Tonight will be a highly charged atmosphere and emotional for those who watched him play, An interview from his daughter Roberta is to be played tonight before kick-off, his grandchildren will lead out both teams and place the match ball on the centre spot. Bobby Moore was a legend and at his time the best defender in england, he was in the top two around the world, Franz Beckenbauer being the other, i was lucky enough to see him play and lead england to victory in the world cup final over west germany. I would suggest our players wear ear plugs and remove them just before kicking off time.

Can we not get a loan deal for a striker. I see Middlesborough are seeking loan deal for Newcastle Ameobi - are loans still able to be done? If they are why can we not get a loan in?
thfan
Darkenvai, I agree about the statistics and I am sure avb DOES have one eye on them. Agree that he looks at statistics of the opposition players as well all the other attributes. IMO, the statistcs help the psychological mind state of the players as well. I am sure that ADE knows statistically he has been pants this season and he can't hide from that simple fact. In deed statistics breed confidence (and the opposite). You only have to look at Bale, his statistics and confidence. Bale is a player we no longer have to worry about. But when your strikers are non-existant, AVB needs to do more to get the best out of Ade under our current situation. I expect Dembele to build on his goal at Lyon and Ade to just get one to get the confidence flowing again. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Gotta disagree Pelebro - about the 'dream all white, totally classy Adidas kit' - Who wants it when it's probably made by 10 year slave-kid's chained to sewing machines in East Asia. Adidas has a really bad record in regards to human rights and let's face it the brand's a bit of a cliche if ur not RunDMC. Actually, despite my initial concerns about UA being 'pant's' I think our kit and training gear's pretty good. Bit worried about tonight's result down to the Bobby Moore factor and our recent lethargic displays - but didn't Ade get a brace at Upton Park last year - might be a good omen if he's firing tonight! COYS!
DocHotspurs
Critical_Spur It's your last few words that say it all CONFIDENCE, a player who is confident and scores doesn't give a flying fig about stats as he has no need to look at them, all he cares about is he's happy and scoring, if he's not scoring then there is NO point in looking at the stats cz he already KNOWS he's playing pants. Looking up his own stats would just confirm this even more and he'd put himself under even more pressure as that's all that would be on his mind, so I don't believe that players especially take any notice of stats. It's about confidence and whether you have it or not you don't need the stats to tell you how you are playing, that's the managers job.
chrishove123
Chrishove, whether one likes it or not, Stats are in everyone's mind. Stats can be construed as goals/ambitions. Fine that Bale may not look at his stats, but you can bet your bottom dollar he was eyeing how far he was behind Defoes on goals and that how many goals he may be targeting for this season. Wonder if Ade has any targets for this season?!!

i am going to sit on the fence for this one.
topspur53
darkenvai If you actually bothered to read my post where I first mentioned the stats and AVB I actually quote THAT bit about being wary AS WELL because if you read it all you would have seen that those quotes were FROM THE INDEPENDENT NOT ESPN.
chrishove123
Critical_Spur I think Ade's targets should be to turn up for training on time and get to the game on time. LOL
chrishove123
Ah Coops, It's good to se4e that someone else has the balls to say that benny is failing us badly and doesn't seem to worry about where he is putting the ball, or who it goes to. I have said for over a season and a half now that we need to get a replacement for him ASAp because his concentration levels are just not good enough, also because he doesn't even really like the game, only the cash he can make from it, he's NOT going to put himself on the line the way Ledders and Daws would. I have considered him a liability for a while now.
chrishove123
Anyone know anything about this guy Belhanda? ...................................... http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/tottenham-ticking-all-the-belhanda-boxes-as-he-gets-confident-abo
chrishove123
Lloris, Walker, Verts, Gallas, BAE, Parker, Dembele, Lennon, Bale, Holtby, Ade. MASSIVE GAME TONIGHT 3 POINTS IS A MUST TO SET US UP NICELY FOR THE BIG ONE NEXT SUNDAY!! YES I'M SHOUTING! I'M SHOUTING COS I'M PUMPED!
TornadoYid
Lots of good things about Belhanda, unfortunately only time I saw him was Montepellier vs Arsenal and he was distinctly average. Obviously can't judge him on one game. He can also play pretty much every position on the pitch apparently.
oi.you.there
Allerdyce has aspecial treatment for Bale. Probably going to double or treble up on him thus opening up all sorts of gaps for us to exploit with Ade Clint and Holtby. http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/130225/exclusive-sam-allardyce-west-ham-planning-special-treatment-gareth-bale-19240?

My prediction tonight a Spurs win.

Looking at remaining fixtures and predicting scores for following teams I predict Champions Man Utd 95 points.

Runner ups - City with 82 points, 3rd Chelsea 75 points, 4th Spurs 74 points, Arsenal fifth 64 points, Liverpool 6th 60 points and Everton 7th with 59 points.
thfan
oi.you.there Thanks mate. can he play 'keeper so we get a decent second 'keeper should the unthinkable happen. LOL
chrishove123
thfan I think WE will nick third and chelski will be fifth with le arse fourth.
chrishove123
This is the sort of game we would lose a few years ago. Opportunity to go 3rd, away on a cold evening, against a fighting / lump it up to the big man kinda team. I hope we've evolved..... :-/
mattspurs1982
darkenvai It's just how you use them, that is why they are to be, in the main ignored. There are lies damned lies and statistics. The first thing I was taught when I studied statistics was that you can make them say ANYTHING you want. You can turn what looks like a winning team into a sorry bunch of losers by manipulation of a certain area of their stats in the "right" way. That is what I feel AVB meant about it when he said that, and yeah I was choosing very carefully, BUT it was to get people to read the whole article, make people think and to put to bed this over reliance on stats. Football is a CONFIDENCE game and it is all in the head. Stats don't help in that way IMHO.
chrishove123
Coops mate, I'm not saying you are slagging Benny off and I agree with everything you said about him. I also have made many observations on him and like yourself I give him and other players, even Brad LOL, credit when it is due them, but we as fans are allowed to observe and say when we feel they have let the team down. I think that is a fundamental flaw in a lot of people's reasoning on here, that if you say a player is playing badly and such like that we ARE slagging him off, but as you say qwe aren't, we are merely making an observation on that players CURRENT performances. I hope Benny DOES have a storming game, but I doubt it somehow after his previous outings. I must say in his defense that he has been out of the game for a while anfd is a bit ring rusty, but he WAS making those sort of errors in his game before he was injured, only not so many of them.
chrishove123
From all the reports and things I've read about Holtby he is well up for this his first London derby. COYS.
chrishove123
As well as a win today I'm praying for a goal or two for Ade. His attitude is put into question far too often in my opinion, though I do understand why. I know he's hardly had a great season, poor in fact compared to the last, but at no stage has it really got going for him. Funnily enough it was Arsenal where he showed the good, the bad, and the ugly all in 15 minutes. I don't remember them touching the ball prior to his red card

I know he has a carefree swagger at times, but grab a few goals tonight and he'll be fired up for Arsenal. We could really push on for 3rd if we could just unlock the Ade of last year, and take some of the pressure to win matches off Bale. He seems to not care at times, but all strikers feed off confidence, and feed off goals.
oi.you.there
Why is it that certain posters can't post without slagging Levy off?

Explaination please, preferably without repeating the same tired old 80ll0cks & in words of more thna 1 syllable. And I'm NOT referring to LJ. He can actually string more than 2 different words together to bolster his point of view.

Spammers 1, the mighty Spurs 3.

Spuds-U-Like
This photo was taken on December 29, 2008. that's why his stats are atrocious cz it is all in his head. BUT as I said they can be manipulated to look like he isn't doing badly. The government does it all the time with the economy and dole figures. It wasn't all I learned because you have to KNOW how to read between what is there in front of you and 90% of the time they ARE lies, the other 10% of the time they are simply a shifting sand dune of "information" to abused in any way possible. It actually takes a great deal of statistical know how to be able to use what is noted as "atrocious" statistics and spin them into something that looks good. Sorry but I studied them for over 2 years solid, and NO I'm not going to bother manipulating anything for you, before you ask, because i have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with them any more cz I just can't be bothered with so many false reffere3nces thrown up by them.
chrishove123
Whoops sorry I thought I'd copy and pasted your name to the previous posting darkenvai but obviously i hadn't, LOL. It IS all in his head that's why his stats are atrocious cz it's got inside his head that he can't do it atm, football IS a confidence game and that is what players thrive on, and lack of confidence slaughters them, not numbers on a page.. BUT as I said they can be manipulated to look like he isn't doing badly. The government does it all the time with the economy and dole figures. Frank you come on every week and say it's a must win game, yes this match is an important game, as the your next game is always the most important. But the reality is we could lose this game and still finish 3rd, or even win this game and end up 5th at the end of the season. A good win and a nice performance would be nice, but its the result that really matters at this stage of the season.
Ossie
If we're serious about challenging for third we have to win today. If we're happy with scrapping around for fourth until the last day of the season then tonight is irrelevant as long as we win next weekend. It's coming to the stage in the season when true grit and a winning mentality really count. Over the course of this season I've seen the mental side of our game improve so I'm feeling positive about tonight and the business end of this season. COYS.
SpuriousLife
Chrishove123, I think that stats, in their totality and when confirmed by what one sees with one's own eyes are both useful and relevant. You can say that Defoe scored 18 goals, Pav 5 and conclude Defoe was more prolific. Then again, you could calculate goals per 90 minutes played to account for the fact that one player was rarely on the pitch while the other was almost always on the pitch allowing you to conclude that both scored at a rate of .6 goals per 90 minutes on the pitch. Modric , if evaluated by goals and assists would look pretty poor. But when you look at possession, passing and interceptions stats, the stats bear out what we all saw and appreciated. You have to look at the body of stats and not just pick and choose those that fit your argument. Forward or backward stats look the same. COYS
peterballb
I don't tell seem to tell the story in football like they do in other sports, lime American sports. Last year people suggesting Modric has poor stats and some crappy midfielder from Wolves was better because he had better stats. This year Arsenal players are trying to suggest Walcott is better than Bale because of stats. People use stats in football to twists things in an debate. Spurs tend to dominate possession and out shoot our opponents by a large amount which would suggest complete domination. But that isn't the case either. I am sure AVB use certain stats to his benefit and i am sure he is clever enough to know what they mean and what they don't mean. People that are not cler with stats use them way to much to try and prove a point.
asherthesmasher
This could be as difficult a match as Spurs have faced. Count any points after they have been won or drawn and not before, and Spurs could come away with none at all. Applied to the tasks in hand and focused, Spurs can beat sides and in style, but there are no easy matches on offer. Keep respect for opponents uppermost.
Airwave
Sorry, just woke up and clearly that has effected my ability to write....
asherthesmasher
A bit harsh on BAE, he has been away injured for a long time, he's not at his best just yet but give him a few more games and he will be. Don't remember too many critcisms last season. I have more issues with Walker, gone backwards this season. I find his needlessly giving away free kicks and poor positioning very irritating. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
Good evening all Lilywhite Supporters!!!! Here's my brave prediction right down to the scorers. Spurs 2 : 0 Spams. Holtby ad Adebayor with assists coming from Lennon and Bale (not necessarily in the same order)......Now let's beat them and move on to the leArse!!!!!! COYS!!!!
Phil-Spurs
If BAE continues to misfire it might be better to ask Jan to play LB with Caulker beside him in the big games. Not ideal for him I know but in the short term for the good of the team maybe.
Love totty
Afer all the BAE slagging off... he will go and put bale through to score a goal for us.. typical benny.. and all is forgotten..
Block D Spurs
coymfs....3 points and make us happy
rovinella62spurs
I agree BAE has been sloppy, but thats understandable when he's been out for so long. Kaboul will probably be the same when he returns. Both Quality players when at 100%
HuddersfieldYiddo
SPURS TEAM CONFIRMED: Lloris, Walker. Dawson, Caulker, Verts, Lennon, Parker, Dembele, Bale, Holtby and Ade
woodyn17
BAE dropped. He was very poor against Lyon going forward, and seems to have lost his pace. Verts isn't a great left-back though. I would've stuck with BAE. I mean, what does Walker have to do to get dropped? That said, Naughton was perhaps worse than Walker against Leeds.
Fanman
No BAE enough said
duckworth
Walkers pace and attacking ability are saving him IMO, he's been a liability defensively this season.
Fanman
I have been a fan of BAE for a very long time. IMO, he is a great defender, an experienced one. He and Bale had an unmatchable understanding on the left. However, since Bale’s free role, BAE is seemingly asked to do Bale’s job, legging up the wing. Whilst he has been making those strides forward, I was very disappointed with his attempted final balls against Lyon. He tried too many times to spin past the last defender, but failed and ended up losing the ball and unable to chase back in time to defend. Clearly he must be doing that (charging up) as per AVB’s instructions and also that Verts is covering for him whilst he is in the opponents half. But imo, he does need to execute that cross sooner than try continually to beat the opposing defender JUST ONE MORE TIME!. Now lennon had an unusually quiet game against Lyon.....not sure why. Perhaps he is concentrating on baling Walker out all the time than focusing on his own natural game. Need the wingers to click tonight. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Respect sure, but sod the hype this is about us going out and winning tonight, nothing else matters. COYS
spu 4 life
good team, verts there because the opposition pose the greatest threat from the air with long balls etc and from set plays. not a damning of benny, who admittedly is still short of his best, but testament to having a manager who prepares for each opposing team specifically . COYS

Dspurs, try wiziwig.tv
Guernman
Moscovite, Verts isn't the best left-back, but I don't think that Cole has the pace to mug him, maybe the skill though? We'll see. I expect a very physical approach from West Ham, with Bale being the primary target of their 'affections'.
Fanman
Little concerned that Cole against Vertonghen thought Benny would have done a better job. Is Dempsey not on bench?

Verts adds height to the back 4, could be useful against set pieces and crosses from the right. Also Dawson and Caulker are our best CB's at defending and attacking high lofted balls.

Why hasn't Webb booked the West Ham player that slippered Bale a minute ago? Pathetic.

So are you not allowed to go for a 50/50 ball in the penalty area now?

What was Parker thinking? I knew he was a liability...

Webb was just waiting for that...

Never a penalty imo. Can see why he gave it because it was a heavy challenge, but he took the ball first! He won the ball!!!!

Webb is a ******** and always will be.

Schoolboy from Parker. Just goes to show how much we miss Sandro!!! Parker hasn't got it, Walker has been fecking awful!! Ade looks uninterested!!!

This referee should never be anywhere near Spurs match. Complete *****er. I hate him with intensity bordering on insanity.

does Webb know he's not at Old Trafford, he doesn't need to cheat
Cape Town Spurs
TQ2 - You stay on your feet in the area. PArker was rash and should know better!!!

Parker is just ridiculous. I bet AVB wishes that he could take him off.
Fanman
and I think Ade has retired
Cape Town Spurs
agree though, parker is spent... time to retire
Cape Town Spurs
Parker is clearly past his best. Missing Sandro big time.
Moscovite
Who dives in two-footed in the box?
Fanman
why does Ade bother turning up? is it a prerequisite for getting paid? I can only assume it is. He is about as useful as a chocolate teapot
Cape Town Spurs
West Ham were opening up nicely and then Parker does that. Just like the Spurs of old, doing stupid ***** like that. Parker has become a liability.

What are we playing at. this is terrible. They are passing etc so much better than us

Great block by Walker
HuddersfieldYiddo
Dembele for siggy at half time. Next foul he's off. We look ***** scared of these lot. Boys against men at the minute.
hudderspur
only Caulker could touch the ball and almost gift West Ham a goal
spursnoob
They are not passing it better Big Ron, they are pressing us and crossing it in better though. Weve been at the byline 3 times and Lennon & Holtby have wasted the final ball.
HuddersfieldYiddo
their going to score again all because moron parker cant time his tackles
spursnoob
Now width on the left, Ade may as well be on the feckin bench and Dembele has been poor in the league for a few weeks now!! On the plus side - we can"t play any worse!!!!
woodyn17
In fact major tactic / formation change required. We have no midfield.
hudderspur
need half time!
spursnoob
would anyone notice if Ade had stayed in south africa / togo / the airport / was locked in the toilet / still played for arsenal / worked as a gardener at buckingham palace and never played football

Dembele is not able to get forward with Parker in the team.
Fanman
Parker past his best, clearly.
what_sux
Man, we miss Sandro. How can Paarker go in two-footed in the box? We have nothing down the right flank.
Fanman
Fanman, its their cup final thats why. One of the toughest away fixtures of the season it always is. At home its usually a doddle but away and especially with Fat Sams tactics it's as tough as they come
HuddersfieldYiddo
Peterballb used to say practice the set pieces and we are there. Now we need to practice our passing. So many go to the opposition or backwards and even the backwards ones can be poor. They are the better team at the moment unless AVB can get the team moving after the break
Big Ron
HuddersfieldYiddo, agreed.
Fanman
Parker is no Sandro, but hes done ok. He lacks technique though. The only alternative is Livermore in there? Or we could open up and stick Siggy in there and get bullied of the pitch? Dont see an alternative really.....
HuddersfieldYiddo
Just an observation and a lot of them need to get out of second gear; Walker is taking a throw and Lennon has not even got himself back onto the pitch, has he gone past his full back yet, that's what his good at; we are making them look like world beaters, pull your finger out and move the ball forward quicker.
spu 4 life
Why doesn't parker just sit and protect, he keeps on trying to get forward to no avail. Dembele has to stay too deep.
Fanman
Our midfield is non-existent. West ham lump it over. We give to parker or Dembele and both keep losing the ball or passing back. Snail pace movement from us. Need to get some energy in midfield. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Lennon has been poor in his last few games.
Fanman
The most positive thing I can say about that is it's nice to see us playing in our proper colours instead of that wannabee Real Madrid kit. Let's hope AVB can change things for the second half. Love the way Caulker is showing Dawson how to bring the ball out of defence instead of standing around like a one-legged Elvis.
Harry-Kari
I swear I say this every game, but we have to start moving the ball quicker. And I think I would take Dembele off for Sigurdson because the way that Webb is feeling tonight I think Dembele could see red. I would also be tempted to take Parker off because he's pretty pedestrian, however I don't think we should bring on Carroll until we are winning 3-1 or whatever (I doubt that's going to happen).
rahn DMC
We've been a second half time lately. Fingers crossed.
Tottenham Hotcore
Have we put in one cross from the right?
Fanman
I think this season we are just going to win ugly. This is really poor. Scott's needs to hang up his books, Dembele was non existent, Lennon are you on the pitch. What the .,., is Caulker doing, there is no confidence what's so ever in the back 4, Verts looks poor on the left, bring him back in the middle with Dawson and bring on BAE. ADE what to say about him, it gets worse, ha ha ha, his first touch is so woeful it is embarressing, I cannot believe this guy get almost K100 per week, we have been plunked, lol. Well they need to improve in the second half otherwise Sundays game becomes even more difficult, because the way we are playing there is no way on this planet earth we will turn the scum over. We need a leader on the pitch, we look fearful.
markyboy40
Up the Spurs! 1-3
MAN ON!
Adebayor is the most over rated, over priced and over paid useless footballer that has ever walked the earth... I really think he should be blindfolded, put in the back of a transit van and driven to Luxembourg
Cape Town Spurs
very poor game
123spurs
markyboy40, Dembele is covering for Parker and trying to attack. Parker is an idiot.
Fanman
Big Ron - backwards you said it, reduced to Lloris lumping it forward, not in any game this season has that happenedin the same numbers as tonight in 45mins.
spu 4 life
Maybe Lennon will turn up in the second half and actually beat his man?
Fanman
Whilst Parker dived in, I hope all you Dawson sympathisers can see why it all happened in the first place. Once again he was not watching his man, drifted to the ball and once again a cross goes over his head. Within 2 seconds the penalty was given. I keep saying this, but Dawson is not good enough for a top 4 team.
muttley
breaking news big cockeral new spurs manager

Lennon has done nothing. He comes deep does a lay off, then does nothing. His touch has also been poor. You think he'd try with Woy watching.

Unbelievable that we won. What a final goal from bale. Siggy added a new dimension when he came on and Carroll knows how to pass quickly and accurately. WE ARE NOW THIRD!!!!!!!!

All I can say is we cannot afford to lose Bale for any amount of money. I honestly thought the way we were playing and there goalkeeper was playing we had no chance, but FairPlay to spurs in fighting for it, but hey how good is that Bale
markyboy40
Jaaskelainen world class, bale out of this world. what a fantastic sight to see him run straight to AVB and hug him. AVB also has to take credit for Bale's form too. overall we were not bad, we miss modric though,
Guernman
OMG WORLD CLASS. ON A DIFFERENT PLANET. Great performance once we went 2-1 down, cannot fault the team once we went behind. Siggy was excellent when he came on, Carroll too. Even Lennon woke up. Gareth Bale though my god, ive never seen a player like him at Spurs. Ginola was special...but Bale is something else.

What a goal from Bale, Baled out again and into 3rd. That was never on the cards. Roman, must be wondering why he sacked AVB now.

Bale is a chimp genius and I'd dump my missus for his hand in marriage. A true Spurs legend already. Exciting times......but I still detest Ade for a poor performance and THAT miss.

STICK YOUR PHUCKING BUBBLES UP YOUR ARSE, sorry guys if that's OTT, but i HATE THAT LOT SO MUCH. Outstanding result, well done to Siggy, just what we and he needed and BALE, what can you say AMAZING FINISH to a game we had to win. Thomas Carroll good to see himon te pitch and did everything asked of him. It was lump it up and hope, by-passing midfield but we hung in and WON, TOP TOP RESULT

mattspurs1982
Great performances from Bale and Lloris but if the team plays like that against Arsenal it will be good night Vienna. Thought that Parker tried very hard tonight to push forward and Caulker was great in bringing the ball out and on another night might have had a couple of goals from corners. Hammers' keeper was outstanding but we still didn't look convincing. Glad to see Carroll on for Dembele who was poor again apart from one pass in the first half. Defensively, if we allow simple passes through the back 4 on Sunday Walcott will have a field-day. Hope we can find some form by the week-end. Great result though, lucky or not.

1 down and 11 to go. I thought young Tom Carroll looked sharp when he came on, he seemed to control the ball well and actually pass to our own players. My big worry at the moment is our defenders and there lack of confidence and ideas, even Dembele and Holtby tonight were poor. I am truly hoping that on Sunday everything clicks for us, because nothing has clicked for us this season and it is bound to happen. Goodnight all bring on Sunday.

AVB made the right subs as usual. I thought we always looked like we would win, but that goal was out of this world. We made two mistakes that nearly cost us, otherwise the game would have been a straight forward win. We were by far the better team.

Good substitutions - Mousa on a yellow and not up to much, Parker (? wtf's he doin at the moment?) And Holtby tiring after a good first half. Parker and Dembele really aren't connecting are they? It even seems Parker is the one designated to go forward. Holtby was coming back and linking up pretty well. To be fair Wet Spam were fired up and that counted for a lot. I thought Ade showed some fire in the second half and Siggy was great when he came on as was Carrol. Azza wasn't being fed. Walker was very hit and miss and needs to stop shooting, Jan - Hmm ok (?) Hugo - classy +++. Caulker should have got at least one in and Daws was solid. That was a hard game! ***** knows what'll happen against the Goobers?
DocHotspurs
Critical_Spur, yep lol, he was excellent in the last 3 minutes. He should of scored, he struggles to generate power. I remember when we beat the gooners 5-1, he scored a power shot from outside the box. Where has that Ade gone?
Fanman
Hope there is no truth in rumoured Anzhi interest in Younis Kaboul, and Spurs quoting them £10.5M. Firstly we can't afford to lose him for next season, especially if we qualify for the CL, and anyway Gallas is at a stage in his career when if we have to lose a CB, with an eye for the future it has to be him. Unless there are long term fears re his fitness, how can we put a value on him matching that we turned down from Reading for Sigurdson in the window.
Frank
Leenon was poor for 75 minutes. He picked up towards the end.

DocHotspurs, Parker just runs forward into traffic. While one of our best attacking players has to sit and defend. We saw on Thursday what Dembele can do when he's attacking. Verts was awful today. BAE in for the gooners.

82spursdebut
Aye, Fanman - kinda like he's playing rugby league - where's the Scotty we know and love gone? He needs to sit and move the ball on quick to Dembele like he did with Modders (***** Modders we might have has a crack at 2nd if he'd stayed). I do wonder if Moussa's been asked to cover deep and watch counter attacks because he has more pace ( and doesn't dive in like a mental wombat with 2 *****ing feet in the box lol). Great game tho!
DocHotspurs
bale showed his class. There were others that did a good job. Lloris kept us in the game, Siggy finally got his goal and deserved it. Carroll came on and did well and lets not forget Dawson, he kept Carrol quiet and Caulker did very well and could have got three goals had it not been for their GK. We mustn't forget the manager AVB once again was not afraid to make the substitutions and they worked, he is really getting players up for it and that shows because this season when players come on from the bench they are up for it and not rusty.

Huge game against Arsenal and equally the next game after that Liverpool is vital. I liked AVB calmness in the interview when he says seven points ios not enough, the PL is unpredictable, shows he has a level head and this is rubbing off on the players. Well done lads and now we can enjoy the next few days and get geared up for Sunday.
thfan
Fantastic, sensational Bale ...where would we be now without him.Think about it? So diasappointed with Ade and Lennon both very poor.If only Lennon had Bales guts and determination...he's terrible wimp and needs a rocket.Ade is absolutely a waste of space.Caulker could have had a hatrick.Any great 3points!!!!!

Ars fans must be gutted. Now they know how we felt last season when Van Persie kept rescuing them in injury time!

What did I say, we're a second half team.
Tottenham Hotcore
Another refreshing thing is we are scoring late - doing what Utd do, play until the last blow of the whistle. That is encouraging signs to stay focused and not to give up.
thfan
We could have let in third goal if Lloris did not save the 1 v 1 against Taylor, which is a fantastic stop.
what_sux
Now THAT is why we have Hugo Lloris in goal. What a 'keeper. Also I am so so glad AVB decided against playing Benny. He seems to be thinking along the same lines as myself and Coopsy. I am also glad that my gloomy prediction didn't come to pass. I'd make a crap soothsayer, (thankfully LOL). Bring on le arse on Sunday and hopefully we will be 7 points ahead of them come the end of the game. I love AVB and I have said that from the start. HE WILL BE GREAT AND WALK ALONG SIDE BILL NICH IN BRINGING BACK THE GLORY DAYS. VIVA AVB VIVA SPURS.
chrishove123
DocHotspurs, agreed!
Fanman
DocHotspurs, not sure why Parker is trying to attack?
Fanman
A lot of credit should go to AVB and the spurs team, for allowing Bale the extra freedom. BUT.....Better if we had 10 Bales !!!...lol....i'd settle for three, though !!(maybe in the summer..we will add some more world beaters). Till then....i suggest AVB puts Bale back in his coffin (protected), till le Arse'...then let him smell the blood !!!!...lol
82spursdebut
Moutinho and Damiao would be top priority for me in the summer. And a right winger.
asherthesmasher
My word, just seen the match stats on BBC. We had 25 shots with 16 on target!!!. Despite what appeared a game in slow motion, that is some pounding.....well done Jussi!!
Critical_Spur
How awesome a feeling is it to beat Wet Spam again and like that. Remember the 4-3 late winner by Stalteri there. Just about the same but what a worldy as a winner. Arsenal must be crapping themselves if we catch their slow midfield on the break. Arteta, Diaby, Mertesacker will get walked past in midfield.
CoysRus
More from the BBC:

Gareth Bale scored his 14th and 15th Premier League goals of the season, drawing level with Michu in the scoring charts. Only Robin van Persie (19) and Luis Suarez (18) have more.

Bale scored his 10th and 11th PL away goals of the season - the outright most away goals of any player in the division.

Bale has scored nine goals in eight PL matches since Christmas Day - more than any other PL player.

Asher I'd take mertyns for the right wing role, get Eriksen and Alderwield to replace Hudd and Dawson and a striker to replace Ade. Great win tonight, and I still can't get my head around all this late scoring, it's like a new sensation that I've never had before and long may it continue, I am worried about Parker and Dembele it's amazing how bad they play together compared to how Sandro and Dembele played, not sure what the solution is for that.

Great game, in which WHU played their part in full.
Gareth - immense.
Dawson one of the star performers. Michael Dawson made 22 defensive clearances, over three-times as many as any Tottenham player and had 86 touches than any other player.
Jussi Jääskeläinen was also brilliant in keeping the score down.
Great game.

Jantheman, drop Parker for Livermore. He will sit and allow Dembele to get forward. Parker looks nice on the ball, but he's just not effective IMO.

Parke, once again immense!
Hotspur 1882
I was screaming & shouting at 8AM when Bale scored. Absolutely Loved it. From the position he scored no one , NO ONE could have seen the goal coming. But hindsight, its a carbon copy of his last minute winner against scotland in world cup qualifiers.
sydqcb5
I thought Siggurdsson played well, better than Holtby infact. I feel he should start ahead of Dempsey or Holtby. He has been extremely unlucky all season, hitting the post for atelaset 5 times. So happy he got the goal, however scrappy it may be.
Also Livermore & Carroll did a good job when they came on.
sydqcb5
@sydqcb5...agreed on Sigurdsson.
laughter7
Fanman, are you kidding? We actually improved when Dembele was taken off. Until then Parker was our one man central midfield, breaking up play and driving us forward. Tom Carroll (perhaps because he's more like Modric in style) compliments Parker better in central midfield than Dembele. We could be talking about central partnerships here, and we have two - Sandro (when fit again) with Dembele and Parker with Carroll. To have 2 sets of central midfield pairing can only be great for the club, just as we have Dawson-Caulker and Gallas (until Kaboul is fit again)-Vertonghen in central defence. If only I can say the same about our forwards - that's the weakness in our spine.
hiano
Wonder Bale!!! I think a lot of teams are jealous that we have bale cos they dont consider us top 4 etc....what about Michu at Swansea? Where would they be without him and his goals? What about RVP and his goals and assists for United? What about Tevez for City, or Lukaku for WBA, Suarez for Liverpool...Ronaldo for Madrid, Messi for Barca etc etc...they can all bugger off...we have a genius in our team just like they have geniuses in theirs...indeed he does create a lot for himself, but u have to be selfish at times to show how good you are, and my oh my is he good...just hope he can reproduce that talent on sunday and not bottle it in the biggest derby yet! Also gotta give a kudos to Jussi Jaskelainen, stellar performance...just when you thought YET ANOTHER keeper was gonna ruin the day for us...COYS

Unbelievably inane comments on here. The Spam played really well and gave us a lot of problems on the flanks. Apart from his rush of blood (arguably) Scotty was tremendous, especially as Dembele was relatively ineffective. Yes Adebayor should have scored but he was also terribly unlucky and his hold up play excellent. Lloris and Bale of course were outstanding. Holtby buzzed around but was bullied out of it far too easily whilst Siggy was a revelation when he came on. Neither Carroll or Livermore dissapointed in their cameos so all round a great fighting performance if lacking in the control we occasionally show.
Love totty
Super Bale.....

Apart from our winning goal, the best thing I saw on the night was the public display of dressing room unity after the final whistle. Everybody on the bench & field hugging & congratulating each other was a joy to behold. Never have I seen a more united playing & coaching staff. Suck that you Chavs! AVB responsible for your $h1te performances under him? Yeah, right.

Spuds-U-Like
Sorry oxfordspur but I just like this picture do not kill me pls :(
what_sux
Great fighting performance from the lads! AVB has got them believing they can win until the last second of every game! But Spurs are going to need a lot of luck on the injury front with the strike force being down to the bare bones, and there being no back ups for both Lennon and Bale. Can Bale continue to do a solo show until the end of the season and continue to gloss over the glaring holes in the Danny Boy Levy ENIC Scrooge squad???
pelebro
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but I feel along with Bale and Lloris AVB needs to also take the plauds for those inspirational substitutions, completely changed the game.So refreshing to have a manager who can identify what needs changing in order to change the course of a game...Absolutely chuffed, couldn't fall off to sleep last night thinking about what we can possibly achieve this season.
SA's No1 Fan
When you look at AVB's team, it is clear it is now only 3 world class players away from being a genuine title challenger! If Bale is kept and a world class striker, a world class creative CM (which will allow Dembele to move further forward where he is very dangerous!) and a world class 2 footed winger to rotate with Lennon and Bale are bought, then skies the limit! But will Levy/Lewis be able to resist the 50 million plus offers for Bale that will come this summer???

hiano, I thought that Parker huffed and puffed alot, and I was screaming at him to release the ball. I think that his job should just be to sit and protect the back 4 like Sandro. When he goes forward, he leaves us vulnerable on the counter-attack. Dembele is alot better than him at attacking, but he has to play deep when Parker is on. Carroll and Livermore were good, and we did look very composed towards the end.

pelebro - I answered your comment on another thread regarding "Levy resisting offers for Bale". What the feck is the matter with you, can't you think for yourself? Bale has a contract, it is up to Bale whether he leaves or not, it's not up to levy. It matters not which clubs come knocking or how much they offer, if Bale says no then it's no.
