'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The biggest loser!

I have just read an article which stated that Real Madrid were considering approaching AVB in the summer, to become their new manager, as well as taking our star player in Gareth Bale with him. Of course, both could be total rubbish as so many media stories are. However it did get me thinking of which of the two would be the bigger loss to our club. Our outstanding young manager or brilliant best player?

I suppose that we half expect Bale to leave sooner or later, and even if we get another season, his staying will be dependant on several things such as our CL qualification, club progression and ambition, whilst there will surely come a time when he would quite fancy the football and cultural education for foreign football. AVB however, I believed would be our manager for ever…

Of course the average time for any manager is less than three years, so he is already nearly a third of the way to the exit door, but I have liked to think that he would be keen to repay Tottenham's faith in employing him, whilst he could also see us as a place where he could build a dynasty, but could even the most loyal man decline the chance to rake over as a club like Real Madrid?..

The larger loss would be AVB.
Total knobhead
One would hope that AVB would relish the stability at N17. After his experience at Chelsea, why would he want to step into the cesspool of Real Madrid? Perhaps he simply likes the experience of being fired? Great gods and little fishes, but RM fires managers after the team wins the league. Just like Chelsea fires managers after winning the CL. One would think that AVB would treat moving there as akin to contracting HIV, something one would be well advised to avoid.
Total knobhead
One can understand an egomaniac like Mourinho taking the RM job, but AVB seems level headed. Why would he put himself into that pit after leaving a similar pit in West London?
Total knobhead
Hello Spurs Nation? Anyone left out there? Are you all too spent from celebrations?
Total knobhead
Am I being shunned after watching the Inter match only on replay?
Total knobhead
AVB ,,,,,Kaboul,,,,,Bale,,,,Lloris,,,Vertonghen,,,Sandro & Dembele are must stays ,must must must to hopefully push on next season .
Big shout out also to Steffen Freund ,unsung hero

Anyone else can go & be pretty easily replaced .These guys are all sheer class & the team needs to be built around them .
big cockeral
No TK we were on the Lennon thread. Anyway more media crap. Does anyone see Levy allowing a buy out clause for RM to someone who had, at the time, no leverage? If one exists it would be pretty large!
jvd
Hey big c. good have someone else on this thread. My take is that we need to build the team around AVB. SAF is the most important person at Man U, more so than any player. AVB can take that role here, if we have the luck of having him stay.
Total knobhead
Hi, jvd, just kidding about being shunned. I know that wouldn't happen, but it was funny to find myself alone here at first. Maybe I should go over to the Lennon thread, where I'll find everyone else is gone as they've come over here. (Then I could really start to let paranoia run wild.)
Total knobhead
AVB definitely the bigger loss. There are lots of really great players out there, but precious few great managers. Even if Bale goes onto be the greatest player of his generation or even all time, the chances are that (unless he does a Giggsy) he'll only be doing that for another 10 years tops. AVB, as someone said the other day, could comfortable give us another 30+ years of service, if he was so minded. How many trophies would that amount to. In any case, I only think Bale will want to leave if he thinks he has outgrown the club. There's precious little chance of that happening if AVB consistently manages with the ability he has shown this season.
darkenvai
The biggest problem in the premier league is the turnover of managers, generally clubs that keep their manager longer tend to do better. Chelsea maybe the exception but we don't have their money. While Wenger shows that even the best managers can eventually run out of ideas but anyone who is any good is likely to do better over six years than two.On that basis I would hope we keep AVB at least until the new stadium is up and running. Bale will go when he chooses, not a lot we can do about it except make sure we get the best price.
jod
Total knobhead still needs the players though & we haven`t the power of Man United .

One thing makes me laugh about SAF ,he has countless rows with players ,ships them off & still remains top of the tree ,amazing.

I really hope AVB can emulate Wenger ,out with the old in with the new .Wenger is a footballing genius & Arseanl have had him for 15 years ,hope AVB does similar .Only reason Wenger is struggling is because they are paying for a stadium ,& they are doing it in ridiculous time .
Arsenal & Wenger are our benchmark ,CL 13 years in a row ? we must cease this seasons opportunity to be better than them ,Harry couldn`t ,but AVB is better .

We are 10 years behind Arsenal off the pitch ,only with success can we close the gap .CL & stadium naming rights brings in stupid money ,but sacrifice had to be made
big cockeral
Maybe this is the partnership we tied up last summer, they get AVB and Bale in return of Mourinho and Ronaldo. Some media stories are unbelievable and to think these guys are getting paid to come up with this stuff!!

In all honesty though, I'd rather lose Bale than AVB although as Big C has already stated. We need to build on what we have and keep the star names.

One last thing, the UEFA cup might not be as big a the Champions League but it is still watched by millions (including players). Last night was an incredible advert for any player with ambition to want in on something BIG. With 2 or 3 top drawer signings we really could be lifting that Premier league title
yiddyboy
Very sobering thought though. Says a lot wrt how he has overcome the slings and arrows of the early weeks with us! Job well done so far. Steady as she goes. Eyes only on the Liverpool game.
jvd
should AVB take the madrid job then every judgement I've made about the man since he's been here will be false. I can't believe he would not see where a second season would take him at this club, especially after overacheiving in transition in his first year. No, to me he seems to have learned from his mistakes at chelsea and to go straight back into an evem more pressurised job would be ludicrous. Seems to have his head on his shoulders, lets hope thats true. as for bale he is a single player, a fantastic one yet a single player nonetheless, and he is replaceable, whether by one top quality player or several. no, you cannot replace the solidarity and success a long term manager brings whereas bale could be replaced. IMO we have been without a long-term manager for FAR too long and that this has been part of the reason for our lack of success, we must hold on to AVB at all costs!!!
wiltshirespur
I get the feeling that AVB wants to build something successful. Staying at Spurs and hopefully leading us to some trophies (domestic and European) and maybe a league title or two would make him a footballing messiah across Europe. If, however, he chose to go to Real Madrid whatever he wins (and I'm sure he'd win plenty) his impact will always be devalued as people will say 'well he won it at Real Madrid where it is easy to win things.' It would cheapen his achievements. For that reason I believe he will stay with us for a few years yet. A similar point was made about Bale on another thread earlier this week by a poster. I can't remember who it was so my apologies.
SpuriousLife
I wouldn't give this AVB story ANY credence, the source is a Spanish version of TalkSport from what I've heard, so complete 80llocks.

Spuds-U-Like
I don't want to think about losing either of them. I'm gonna shove my head in the sand for a while. After 'regular visits and chat's at the training ground' David Pleat reckons Bale's nailed onto Spurs for a while yet. As I don't know the truth and prefer this version, I'll stick with it.
DocHotspurs
Spuds - On the subject of TalkSport, Durham had Harry to finish above Spurs and Harry stated on MOTD back in November that Spurs would be top 4. Does that mean Durham thought QPR would be top 3???

AVB ain't going in the Summer and I have a strong feeling Bale has ambition and wants to achieve it at the lane.
yiddyboy
Big compliment to Spurs that we have these rumours ,only means one thing ,he`s doing a great job .
Whilst Harry courted himself ,AVB sits back & lets the football do the talking .One has class ,the other is an arse
big cockeral
Que sera, sera. Why worry, be happy.
Love totty
Yiddyboy Durham had QPR to finish seventh (ahead of Spurs) before the season started, not since Harry joined them.
Ossie
AVB is confident and ambitious - but not stupid. The RM opportunity will come around every two or three years, so it cannot be regarded as a once in a lifetime opportunity that it would be for a player. I perceive that AVB's pride will make him want to stick it to the chavs for a couple of years, whilst rebuilding his reputation. Money can't be an issue after the wedge he got from the chavs, so he has time on his side. Anything that Pleat says is (IMHO) best written on Andrex!
scoops50
Durham is slaughtering Spurs on talksport. He has been since I've been listening to him really. Now he's saying that the europa league is a losers cup. Mike Parry used to slate us aswell. He seems to think that we're over-reacting? We're not allowed to be happy about a win.

Just read this article in the Liverpool echo and the following comments and seen first hand how delusional some fans are. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/lfc-player-profiles/joe-allen/2013/03/08/jan-molby-stop-gareth-bale-and-liverpool-fc-will-stop-tottenham-100252-32945867/ My favourite comment is the one Liverpool fans that says if we stop Suarez, they still have Coutinho and Sturridge but if they stop Bale we have nobody else..........
TopSpur13
@big c:

It may be that we're in better shape financially than is Man U. The Glazer's have been looting their treasury and I don't think that's true of ENIC here. Of course, that could turn out not to be true, but if it is true, they've been covering their tracks much better than have the Glazers.

keeping AVB is the most important thing at this time for our future.

Total knobhead
daniel levy is the only one must-stay...
SpursWho
I can't see AVB leaving, and I think that Bale will also stay at least one more year. Bale is a superstar right now so we can afford to pay him a lot more and recoup it in merchandising and the kit deals etc. For once we have a truly marketable player and it could make a lot of financial sense to give him a massive deal to stay on for some time yet. He will move eventually, but he is happy right now and if the club progresses and makes top 4, I think the smart money has got to be on both player and manager being here next season
Guernman
A good manager, as AVB has become, is far more difficult to replace than any player, after all Levy has had 8 goes before finally appearing to get it right. From a player point of view the £55-60M that Bale should surely attract would buy 2 or 3 top players, so the squad strength should not suffer too much. We would possibly have to adjust our playing style, to recognise the loss of Bale, but other clubs have had to cope with losing their star player in the past. We have to be prepared because it will happen sooner or later.
Frank
The Ginger Dick yiddy, Ossie, also said on AVB's appointment - "Under AVB, Spurs will drop like a stone".

ghulamville, I don't think that he mugged himself. Durham is difficult to argue with, and he's vitriolic. I don't understand why he is trying to take the shine off of our success?

double post, sorry.
Fanman
Frank, if we were to lose Bale (or should we be saying when we lose Bale), as you point out we will get stacks of cash. For the cash to be any good to us, we need a manager that can reinvest and make a team better than the sum of it's parts. This is really hard and only a few good managers seem to be able to do this on a regular basis. I hope AVB fits this category of manager and as such AVB going would be far worse than Bale going. However, we are Spurs. We are the eternal optimists. Forget Bale and AVB leaving. Let's have a story about AVB using this summers war chest to bring in Ronaldo and Messi.
In-spurs-ational
In-spurs-ational, well Messi did say that he wants to play with Bale, and Barcelona appear to be in a bit of decline. So we just need to get the 100 million needed for his signing on fee. He can't spend the whole of his career at Barca can he?
Fanman
Hotcore Senior is 60 this year, I was saying that if things go well with avb, he could have seen his last manager at spurs.
Tottenham Hotcore
Would Messi come though? I mean he'd be waiting on injuries to our superstars to get a game...
darkenvai
Maybe we could do a swap deal. Hudders for Messi. We'll even throw in £5m to sweeten the deal
In-spurs-ational
darkenvaI, I said us Spurs fans were optimists not delusional (although looking at my last post I'm fine one to say that)

I'd be gutted to lose either. Hopefully we can continue to develop as a club and AVB seems to be the right man for the job, it pains me to say it but Bale could be replaced.... certainly not like for like but the fee could help strengthen the squad.Off topic but I'm at a works event tonight and meeting Richard Keys and Andy Gray . . . got any good questions I should throw their way?

I don’t think they will leave us for now; they are enjoying their time at spurs. Also, every time i read these media stories about Real Madrid taking our star player this summer, they are only trying to wind us up, sometimes i laugh at some of these reports, just bad journalism or jealousy. The way I see it Gareth doesn’t want to leave us yet and AVB wants to carry on managing us for a few seasons at least
Marquispurs
Haven't you guys yet seen the pattern that has existed now for a long time. Anybody who is showing considerable success, whether it be player or manager, is immediately linked to RM or Barcelona. It's all bollox. One rag I saw was saying AVB has a FREE TRANSFER clause to RM in his contract !!! We all know Levy better than to agree to such a ridiculous situation.

Wouldnt want to lose either...

I actually think AVB and BALE will turn out to be very loyal to our club....
Yidmarks
SilwalYid, whilst I agree that we are not too far away from being a serious title challenger, I'm not convinced Levy and Co will finance it. The reason being is that, financially, the amount we would need to spend to go that extra yard might not be recouped in extra revenue. Whilst as fans we would love to challenge at the very top, as a club I think we are very much like arsenal in the sense that top four is enough for our owners.
In-spurs-ational
Yidmarks, you could be right. AVB was a rich man before football, so I don't think money will sway him too much, it's more about the "project". As for Bale, he loves playing for us currently and I think for him, enjoyment is more important than a few extra thousand a week. I could be wrong, they could both be gone by next season but, personally, I think AVB is here for the long term (or until he loses three matches in a row) and Bale for one more season (and then he'll decide depending on how we are doing)
In-spurs-ational
Funnily enough, Bale could turn out to be our secret weapon in unlocking more money from Enic. If enic spend more to get a few top draw players, Bale may want to stay. Bale staying increases our world wide presence and thus more marketing opportunities. More marketing opportunities means more money. More money means better players and once again an increase in our world presence. And so the circle goes on. Well, that's the theory anyway. I'm glad we have a manager who I trust to spend the money wisely.
In-spurs-ational
Why the phuck Spurs fans worry about how much money Spurs get for what i`ll never know .Does it bring down ticket prices or just make richer people richer ? you know the answer so lets stop talking like Spurs money is our money .Exploitation or what

in fear of repeating myself and BIG C....we need to keep bale at all costs and build a squad around him a few others.why sell bale now?it would be utter madness.i also feel that there is a bit of bromance going on between AVB and bale.a bit of a SAF/becks type situation, which is not a bad thing if it keeps AVB and bale with us for a good few seasons.....i do feel that we have very solid foundations to go on to future greatness and glory, but you have to keep your young star players, nurture them and build on it....we have no choice as we will never compete with the likes of manc-***tty and the chavs in terms of offering high wages to glory-grabbing mercenaries ....better for us IMHO!
g. roberts testes
Both would be massive losses but if I had to pick one to go, it would be Bale. Personally, I think that, provided the board show real ambition in the summer, AVB will build something really special at Spurs. So it's fingers and toes crossed that he's backed to the hilt, he's certainly earned it.
thfc1882whl
Whats the point of this article ? So what if its not true or what if its true. Its just a tabloid story. Last week we heard Arsenal being sold to some Arabs now everything is silent, we heard Ronney going, now Fergie says take my word he wont leave. Most of the football stories are just bull$hit. As fans we just have to make our mind which we believe to be tru or not. Whats the point about worrying which may never happen. Enjoy the moment and focus on the season now....
sydqcb5
AVB is way better than I had thought. I would not like to lose either but the reality is, 60M for Bale would buy a lot of therapy whereas we'd never get anywhere near that for AVB and he is a step above. I don't think either will go. If we get CL and keep building, both will stay and both will reap the rewards. I don't see as either is really looking unhappy with their current lot in life, nor do I believe that they do not want to achieve everything at Spurs. It may well happen, but no the now. COYS

AVB has the power to inspire players and i seen in non-other managers in EPL...thats why all the players give best to him...

We play well, our players get attention. We win big games and put in great performances , our manager gets attention. What really grates my balls is how the media and certain pundits try their best to derail us. Lucky we have a manager who could block the bullshiet stories and fantasies that these sadistic morons conjur up. We have again made a massive statement this year but the real hard work starts now. I believe in AVB more than any other manager in the PL, his qualities are honesty, integrity , humility , passion , steadfastness and above all loyalty. He will honor his contract with us, of that I am sure.
Mix26
darkenvale I read that the other day, he'll be hung drawn and quartered by the chavs!!!

Regarding Bale... everyone on here is asking, will Bale want to leave Tottenham? But the big question is... Will ENIC want to sale??? I mean, if Levy tells Bale this summer "Our partners Real Madrid have made an offer for you which we have accepted", Bale will be gone! I mean Gareth's not exactly going to do a Michael Dawson and tell Levy, "I'm not going anywhere mate, I've got a contract!" Bale is much more likely to think to himself, "I'm quite happy here, but if my chairman wants rid of me, I might as well double up on my salary, experience the big time at the mighty Real Madrid and hang out with my mate Luka!"
pelebro
pelebro do u call a spade a spade?
Mix26
mix26, I understand your post to me was not intended to sound racist, as I understood it's original meaning, but you should be a little more careful when using that phrase, because it may cause offense to black people here in the UK, as the word you used is a racist word for black people. Your probably not aware of that coming from most racist country on the planet, but I thought I would just let you know...
pelebro
The media love making up a story, they must sit thinking up the next move to unsettle our team or at least try. Is the ''feeder'' to the rags Sir Arry Redcrapp, AVB to Madrid, Bale to Madrid, reading this morning Modric to spurs +30m for Bale. Why don't they just phuck off and stick your parnership up your ar$e. Bet Levy can't stop laughing.
spu 4 life
lol well pelebro its clear u are very mistaken with my comment and no I had no idea or even the remotest inclination that the phrase 'call a spade a spade' was racist in any form. As for your comment black people in the uk will find it offensive and then calling the country I live in the most racist on the planet... It's plainly obvious u are the racist if that's what you relate to in any debate forum. I could not care less if I offend u or any other person on here as u have no idea who or what I am.
Mix26
By the way your post was pathetic! ENIC have previouly gone on record stating ala modric and Berbatoss that we do not want to sell our best players and it was player power that forced the sales.
Mix26
And I have researched that quote and it stipulates that people in America would find it offensive???
Mix26
Another note to you pelbro, I have travelled the globe and met diff nationalities and enjoyed many cultural experiences. My country has gone through it's tough transition and will continue for longer than we are on this planet. FYI a week ago I was held up at gun point and my mother hit in the face by 2 black males yet still I dont feel hatred or revenge. We then shared a meal and an witness recording with 2 black police officers who were unbelievable and a fantastic example of what our police should be. I would not swap this beautiful country for anywhere else in the world!
Mix26
exactley s4l!
Mix26
As for all this talk about the media trying to unsettle us and derail us... It's nothing personal, as the media are in the business of selling newspapers and they understand their readers love all the gossip, all the stories, all the speculation! If we didn't read the crap, it would not offend! And lets not forget that many football clubs use their mates in the press to make up these stories to start bidding wars... Football clubs need the media and the media needs football. Many are taking offence on this occasion because the thought of losing AVB or Bale is just to much to contemplate. It would be a major blow, but that decision is down to Enic not the media...
pelebro
mix26, I clearly wrote to you "I understand your post to me was not intended to sound racist". I did not call you a racist, so please don't take offence, just pointed out that many black people in the UK would find the words you wrote offensive. No need to get so defensive my man, you didn't create apartheid. chill bro...

pelebro oh dear ! you only find it when you`re looking for it
