Great news, and well resisted Mr. Levy. Our task now is to concentrate in getting in the calibre of player, particularly up front, to make us so successful this season, getting into the CL, and possibly nick a trophy, to make Bale have second thoughts about leaving at the end of the season. It will be interesting to see whether his transfer value appreciates, or depreciates, come the end of the 2013-4 season. If it becomes inevitable that he will leave in the 2014 window, then it is to be hoped that the fee received, will be fully re-invested into the squad, to soften the blow of his departure.

Bale staying would be a massive boost for 5 reasons. 1. Can attract top players with his staying put. 2. Sponsorship, every company wants the team they sponsor to have a star man, Bale is ours without doubt, and we can command extra cash through using him. 3. He is a match winner, and will even be better with the right players around him. 4. Bale, will keep our name in lights gaining a bigger fan base around the world with young people and that impact is HUGE. 5. Just to say to the rest of the big boys, we have had enough, we are coming for you and you are not getting anymore players unless we want rid.

Buckle up YIDS, this season is going to be EPIC, I feel it in my bones.....COYS

I won't relax until 10pm September 2nd. Then, if the lad's still with us, on September 3rd, we can all wave goodbye to Gaywalker.

@Spuds, true, but it looks almost certain he will be in the correct shade of white next year.

They have given up for THIS season but are rumoured to be waiting in the wings for the end of the season to come in with an 85 million bid for him. We have kept Bale and now we have a certain brazilian player as long as he passes his medical. ..................................... http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/jul/05/paulinho-tottenham-medical-transfer-corinthians

Best thing we can do is to make certain that he has the players around him to make him look that much more valuable and to get us CL. There are no guarantees of CL and 6 horses in the race for 4 positions. Thank you RM and PSG for concretising the price. It's 85M GBP. If Bale can get 20 goals and perhaps 15 assists, that number will go North of 100M.

ENIC, get him on proper pay terms for a player of his magnitude (at least 150k/week). get in the players AVB needs to get top 4 and at least one cup. Let's get it done. The time is nigh. But don't forget the future. Jedvaj, Rebic, Castaignos, Halilovic would be about 25M spent to save us 50M plus in a few years. Get in Villa. Get in a real striker (Benteke, Gomez, Doumbia). Get in a player like Lombaerts who can play CB or LB (even Espinoza). We need a cup keeper. Cesar is where I would go. I also really like the idea of Deulofeu even though it would be a loan. The kid is fast, strong and he attacks (1 year loan - 20M option to buy). Dream would be Dzagoev though. He, Doumbia and Bale up top would be about as good as there is with Lennon and Villa as options.

I've got to believe that we could get 30M plus for the players going out (assuming all of my signings - Hudd, Parker, Defoe, Ade, Rose, BAE, Dempsey, Gomes), not to mention the large wage savings. If the 50M transfer budget is above and beyond what we get for players going out, these players can be afforded and are all young enough to be around for quite a few years. Just my thoughts. Minimally, Paulinho, Villa, an up top striker, a keeper, a winger, a LB need to be brought in. I do not consider Townsend, Rose, Friedel, Defoe to be good enough to take us forward. I also have huge doubts about Walker. If Richards could be had, it may well be worth it. COYS

How exactly do you give up on a player when you've never made a bid ?

Real Madrid would not back away if bale had given them any indication that he wanted to move. If he had they would have continued to try to get him to push for a transefer. combine that with Levy making it clear we are not selling and this one was over berfore it started.

Irrelevant I'm afraid jod, making a bid is not a requirement mate. Entering into discussion is, & RM have done that & given up before lodging a bid because Levy's made it clear he won't sell.

Bale was never going this summer. I always found it quite annoying when people kept talking about it when there was absolutely no substance or evidence that he was ever even close to leaving. Another myth from the 'we have to get CL or Bale will leave' media brigade. We do need a strong transfer window this summer though and next. When he eventually leaves for £85-£100m we want to be strengthening an already great squad. I still don't go along with this 'we have to get top 4 or the whole world is going to end' myth - it actually doesn't - life just carries on. We just need to be challenging for honours and be in and around the top 4 and qualifying for Europe year in year out. That's as much as you can possibly expect when there are 5 other teams vying for honours each of whom have greater strength in depth and finances than us. We're doing well, its great times.
