'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Monday 8th July 2013

With the hype surrounding the confirmation this week of our new signing Paulinho from Corinthians and the daily rumours surrounding the many possible targets that we have been linked with.

We heard the announcement last week that today (Monday 8th July 2013) will be the launch date of our new kit and the obvious parade of our Brazilian (no wax included, no pun intended). But is this all?

The new kit is a big thing, its a huge part of club revenue and I am guessing that Under Armour are expecting a show.

I am predicting that we will hear that Gareth Bale has signed a new contract with an increase in his wages to 170,000, Paulinho to be shown off in his new number 8 shirt (sorry Scotty, well not really). But is this going to be enough..

Gareth Bale and Paulinho... we know about them already..

Or is there something that Mr Levy has been hiding...?

Will we see Villa, Benteke or Osvaldo in the Lilywhite colours also...?

What do my fellow Yiddos think....?

seems we will see villa in the new kit.....if levy decides to play softball for once as reported he wants to pay less than the 8 point odd mil that barca wants
rovinella62spurs
Not a chance in my opinion.
Chelmspur
Wow, Quite a few early risers. Morning everybody. Villa.. asking price about 8 mil. ....Levy wants to pay like 5 or 6. For the sake of 2 mil. in the grand scheme of things, I reckon just pay them and get it done. Yeah?
Madaboutspurs
the 2-3 million should not be an issue MAD, not for a player of that quality and the global marketing potential....

get it done Levy!
Yidmarks
Hi to all, sitting here in NZ at 6pm and feeling left out of things, i thought i would put my penny worth in, why are we asking these questions, arnt we already in front of other tansfer windows by a mile, and theres no way we wont bring in a GOALSCORER this time i am sure, so with 5/6 weeks to go sit back and enjoy, COYS
spurs50yrs
50years... its not just about getting a striker.. its getting a striker now so they are able to have a pre-season with the team... thats important..
Yidmarks
From what I understand, Villa has told Barca he wants to go to Spurs and onlySpurs. This has meant Levy has found he can play his favourite game and try and get a few mil off. Dangerous game though, say Higuan to AFC falls through and they turn their attention to Villa? His head could be turned! Wouldbe good to get him for when the rest of the squad get back into training next week. Spanish teams start their pre season after us, we dont need another unfit striker signing on the last day! Get it done Levy!
liamyid
Looks like it was the presence of Huddlestone and not Bale that persuaded Paulinho to join us “In Brazil we watch a lot of Premier League matches. Spurs have some big players. i hope to work with them towards new successes. “ http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-gareth-bale-2037170
In-spurs-ational
Exactly my thoughts Yidmarks. His contribution to the team with goals and experience in being a winner, plus the global branding of him being our player with associated shirt sales. Just do it, do it now, Mr Levy.

Hello, spurs50yrs, my fellow SPURS supporter across the Tasman. I do not want to sound like a pessimist but your 'there's no way we won't bring in a GOALSCORER this time' phrase made me lol. Where have you been since we sold Berba and Keano 5 years ago? I will literally only believe it when the striker is photographed wearing our shirt with a cheesy grin, next to AVB with his chessy grin.
Madaboutspurs
Levy will try the cheapo tactics with Barca, he just can't help it.. he is a jewish bean counter, and spurs financial guardian. Also he has to account to Joe Lewis..
Block D Spurs
Slurs50years, this time last year we'd signed Sig for £11m+ and Verts for £10m+, we've only pulled off Paulinho at the moment, we just seemed to be linked to more players. I think Levy like his own reputation to much. His brickmanship has cost us over the last few years. You expect him to learn but its the way he is, he aint gonma change and start throwing money about if he thjnks he can save a few quid!

Get uncle Ricky on the phone.

Yidmarks, yes your correct in wot you say but in 2 weeks we will have our main man, coys
spurs50yrs
Madabout spurs, yes i know and you are right, but i just think (HOPE) we will buy 2 this time
spurs50yrs
Madaboutspurs, have you heard of how we will get to see spurs playing over here ??????
spurs50yrs
50yrs, fingers crossed you are right and the signings will materialise sooner rather than later.
Madaboutspurs
Not exactly sure what you mean, 50 yrs. I am still waiting for them to come Down Under and I will fly anywhere in Australia to see them. I would have even contemplated flying to Hong Kong next couple of weeks except I am going on a cruise (again) with my wife next week. As for TV, there's Foxtel pay TV and that's anything from midnight to 3 am as you probably know. Lastly, I've been to WHL a couple of times but never fortunate enough to get there on game day at the right time. Tickets won't be easy to come by but I'm sure there's a way. Hmm, I'm rambling on. :-)
Madaboutspurs
Sky no longer showing footy, wot is the next best over here ??
spurs50yrs
Some reports say the Villa to spurs deal is all but agreed, it's the final fee being the hold up? Under Armour New Kit Day, more a point in question Lynx and a Eartha Kitt
spu 4 life
Sorry 50yrs, not sure what you have in NZ. I find it hard to believe you won't get to watch any games next season. Heaven forbid
Madaboutspurs
Yidmarks- agree, the sooner we get them in the better, we will benefit from having a full pre season with all new players in.

Morning all. Does anyone know what time the new kit is being unveiled?
SpuriousLife
Don't think there will be any surprizes today in the kit unveil just the likes of Bale and Paulinho and others but no new messiah striker hope i'm wrong
norwichspur
Interesting, so we make it common knowledge about our intentions, the story as in the ''current bun'' :- SPURS plan to get Christian Benteke for £20million — by making a raid at the end of the transfer window. Benteke is a major target for Spurs but chairman Daniel Levy will try to get the Belgian star on the cheap. Aston Villa, who signed the striker for £7m, insist they do not want to sell and it would take an offer of more than £30m to tempt them. Levy is happy for the season to start before making his move late in August. Benteke, 22, who scored 23 times last season, is on £20,000 a week and could be offered double that to sign a new Villa deal. Spurs are ready to offload Emmanuel Adebayor in their bid to land Benteke. (END OF ARTICLE) Any deal for Benteke needs to be done before the end of the transfer window, would David Villa and Benteke be an upgrade on Ade & Defoe, i think so, why wait if Aston Villa turn this down we will end up with a loan deal for Fraizer Campbell.
spu 4 life
I can't see there being any surprises today although I'd love to be wrong..as for Villa, I can't see what all the fuss is about, he's a bit of fluff, if we don't get him perhaps we should go all in to get Eto'o...who is by far the better player of that generation...;)
shedboy2
spu 4 life- does the article mention why Villa would sell Benteke for 20m at the end of the window as opposed to now?..I can't understand the logic?
shedboy2
Swansea will get another striker bargain (Michu being the first) in Wilfried Bony... looks like they are close with a 12m offer...

The man scores a goal a game in the Dutch League and looks like he could be a success in the PL...

Upgrade on Defoe and Ade as a 2nd striker i think....
Yidmarks
what time is the KIT LAUNCH?......
Yidmarks
the media is saying we have reached an "agreement in principle" for Villa...

that personal terms have been met... but the fee between clubs has yet to be agreed...

Come on Danny... shock us with Villa in the No10 shirt today..
Yidmarks
"Nacer Chadli must have legs! Can confirm he has been to our training ground as well as another player who would be tougher to get"

off another ITK site... dont know if it has any legs!!!
Yidmarks
shedboy2; like so many, every rumour tell's a different story regarding price for Benteke, lost in translation springs to mind. It's like the young madrid B side player Jese Rodriguez 9.9m, yet reports say we can't agree to pay 8.6m for David Villa and considering the number of players to move on first or second depends again what we read, wait and see i think, is the best policy.
spu 4 life
Yidmarks - Nacer Chadli must have legs, he wouldn't be much use without them :-)
yiddyboy
Shedboy re Benteke, I can't imagine Villa would want to sell BUT they are potentially sitting on a big profit AND (apparently) have set themselves a target (end of transfer window) to get an extension signed. So it sounds like the ball is in the player's hands. Hope we haven't been "tapping him up".......
Ken Dagnall
Douglas Bader was ok without legs :-)
Hot_Spur
He certainly was Hot, shame he was such an arrogant barsteward right up to the end. Great hero, crap person. Sadly, I speak from personal experience mate.

Spuds-U-Like
Spuds - Did you know the guy? The film portrayed him as a bit arrogant but then I think it's the arrogance that make these guys the heros they are. Guy Gibson was the same apparently.
Hot_Spur
What time is the kit launch?
Moscovite
Come on spuds did you know the guy. Alot of these guys were very self centred. It's what drove them. I believe Barnes Wallace was very similar, arrogant and very focused on what HE wanted
jljyid
You're right Hot, watched a documentary about he dam busters yesterday and they interviewed one of the pilots who had to return to base because his electrics had been damaged by flak. He was spoken to by Gibson after the raid, and he simply said "you must have been flying too high". He then walked away without giving the other pilot chance to tell is story.
spurboy61
We will see Paulinho, and possibly Bale, and that is it. I find it disappointing that having broken the established mould with the signing of Paulinho, early on for the fee required, that Levy seems to be once again reverting to type. We have the haggle over the price for Villa, if we have identified the player as a preferred target, what is £2M in the grand scheme of things, get it paid and get him in. We also read that he is going to play "the waiting game", up until the end of the window if necessary, to try and get Benteke for a knock down price. We have been here before, wasting the window, and then scrambling about in the last 24 hours or less, with the result that we often settle for 2nd best (Dempsey, Rasiak, Frazer Campbell etc.) or miss out all together (Muotinho), and also for the first 3 or 4 games of the season we are under strength, and drop what may prove to be vital points. We all now that all the PL have received the SKY TV windfall, as the level of transfer activity at some clubs already indicates, so come on Mr. Levy if we have identified our targets, lets stop the brinkmanship and get them in. Does Levy really believe that he will be Benteke's only suitor, and that Lambert is sitting by the phone waiting with baited breath for his call, I am sure there will be interest from elsewhere, and Levy must not let his ego get in the way of us improving the squad, by missing out. It's not as if you can skint the club, by spending free money you have never had anyway.
Frank
No, Hot, not on a persoanl level. When I was in the RAF, he was a guest of honour & whilst on parade, he reviewed us & started putting blokes on a charge for stupid stuff like long hair, shoes not shiny enough etc., about 4 in all. We all thought the officers or NCOs would let it go, but they didn't & those charged were duly punished. The guy was in his 60's at the time & retired but unfortunately too many officers & NCOs were in awe of him & so he got away with it.

Yes, arrogance is a key factor for all those great war hero's, & he was one no doubt, but he probably felt he still had something to prove even that late in his life. That's what I think looking back with some 40 years of hindsight.

Spuds-U-Like
2pm was the time I read, not sure if it is true
Spurs999
There are now stories that Athletico Madrid are taking interest in David Villa, they need a replacement for Falcao. This is exactly what I said yesterday might happen, Levy p1sses about trying to save pennies and then another club jumps in and snatches the target from under our noses.
Hot_Spur
Yidmarks thats some serious ITK right there - Spurs cose to sgning player, hopeully with legs! Liamyid I want Levy and Baldini to do what ever it takes to get these transfers done but if they have actually pleasured him with their hands then that is going above and beyond the call of duty!
Slurms McKenzie
Ken Dagnall, I sincerely hope that we are, and will continue to, "tap up" Benteke. Whether we like it or not, in this day and age it is the standard method of trying to prize a player out of his club. We can have all the principles we like, but it will not do us any good, we simply get left behind. We have suffered from it in the past, it is our turn, if you can't beat em then join em.
Frank
I'm not having that frank. Someone has to do the right thing. My principles and Morales are the most important thing to me. It's easy to do the right thing when everyone does, it takes real strength to do it when no is
jljyid
Spuds - Thanks for that, interesting experience but I'm surprised he could put people on a charge as he wasn't actually in the RAF at that time. Just because he was an ex, doesn't really give him any authority as a guest, strictly speaking. I actually think ALL the RAF pilots during WW2 were heros, they put their life on the line every day, what makes them heros is that they KNEW they were putting their life on the line. Churchill was spot on with his speech, "Never have so many owed so much to so few".
Hot_Spur
What are we all going to do if it is Gomes, Khumalo and Livermore parading the new kit? :-)
muttley
So, exactly what time is the kit launch?
Madaboutspurs
Just to clarrify the Villa price tag, as I understand it the price wanted by Barca is 10 million Euros, or £8.5M. Surely for a player with his pedigree, goal stats, global profile, this is a bargain easily recouped from his shirt sales. Come on Levy stop pratting about, or get out of the bloody way, and let Baldini (football person), sort it out.
Frank
Come and find you muttley so I can get the winning lottery numbers and torture you in some way for being the harbinger of doom ;)
jljyid
Frank - I agree with most of what you are saying but come on £2m is a lot of money, whether you're a millionaire or not! If you turn that around then why don't Barca just say it's only £2m, sod it. Mr Levy he's all yours"?
Money is money and in the scheme of things Spurs/ENIC/Levy would see thousands as what you would not waste your time over, NOT millions!!
yiddyboy
Hot_Spur, I have heard these stories as well, we have to keep an eye on Atletico de Madrid, not just on Villa, they have also been linked with Benteke, they could essentially have the same shopping list as us, and they will pay more than us. I also heard Diego Simeone was not very happy when he returned from holidays the other day and now players were signed.
SpurInSpain
I have no problem with Levy trying to bring the fee down for Villa by a couple of million. He has a business to run and lets face it Villa is 31 and can leave for free at the end of the season.

However, I do have a problem if it goes on and on and on and then we get into a situation where a player misses pre season. I think Levy needs to have a time scale and make sure that if an agreement cannot be done in that time scale then move on because losing a player for pre season or even worse the first couple of games for the season can be more costly than paying an extra couple of million for the player. The points that can be lost through an incomplete team play at the beginning of the season can cost us CL footy and the cost of that is more than a couple of million.

So imo drive to get the player as cheap as possible but have a strict deadline and hopefully a backup in place so we get players fit in pre season and ready to start the first game of the season.
thfan
Thanks for the answer Spurs999, I did not see your post earlier :-)
Madaboutspurs
Yidmarks spot on with both of your last posts. Firstly of course we should be completing our transfer business early, to get new players in for pre-season and available for selection for the start of the season, and secondly I too think that Wilfried Bony may well turn out to be the bargain of the window, £12M for a "goal a game striker", irrespective of which league he does it in, and an Ivory Coast international, he has to be cheap, far better value than the likes of Damiao. Swansea have done it before with Michu and Dyer, and I think they have grabbed another gem in Bony.
Frank
yiddyboy - 2 million is not a lot of money in football terms this day and age, especially for a player as high profile as David Villa. He will repay that 2 million several times over. See my post above, there are now stories that Athletico Madrid are interested, Levy's p1ssing about over a mere 2 million could end up losing the player.
Hot_Spur
Not as surprised as we were at the time Hot, I can tell you. I don't know for certain, but above a certain rank, retired officers retain their rank title for life, so maybe that had something to do with it.

As a complete contrast, one fighter ace I did actually meet was Archie Winskill DFC when he was Captain of the Queen's Flight during my time at RAF Benson. Not as great as Bader, but completely opposite in character, a really, really nice bloke, you might have seen him on one those Battle of Britain documentaries on Discovery. Kind of proves the point of arrogance being a factor in greatness, Archie was not a great ace, but a really great guy.

Spuds-U-Like
I wouldn't have minded Benteke but no more than 10mil.

As for the kit bale alone is a huge statement of intent add Paulinho and we have other big players in Lloris, Vertonghen and Sandro and we have long serving players in Lennon and Dawson. I cannot see the problem.

Of course as fans we want more players in to show of the kit but we don't throw money around for the sake of it. I agree with yiddyboy - 2mil is a lot of money to save or to blow but as i said in earlier post there is also the danger that more money can be lost through letting trnasfers drag on and on.
thfan
stop messing around with Villa (He won't sell an extra two hundred thousand shirts to make up his fee!) Hopefully Villa is just a diversion from our real target....whoever that may be!
shedboy2
teams like Atletico realise that strikers win you games...they always re-invest the money they receive into the next striker...we just seem to have a block when it comes to signing strikers always trying to get a cheap deal for what is the most expensive position to fill...
shedboy2
shed - After our discussion last night I came across this article, it might make you feel better. And anybody else that thinks Villa is too old. http://espnfc.com/blog/_/name/tottenham/id/972?&cc=5739

Madabout... If you have plans for a vist to WHL this season, im sure one of us......a season ticket holder can arrange something for you.. :-)

£2M, a lot of money to an organisation like ours, bull*****e, and in any case Villa will sell enough shirts world wide to pay his fee in full. Incidently the £2m is "free donated money" due to the SKY TV increased revenue hand out, so let's not be passing the begging bowl just yet.
Frank
Newspapers leading our emotions again. Wow, imagine a reporter actually saying that DL plans to leave the Benteke bid (if there is even one coming) to the end of the TW! Wow! And some on here believe that has legs! Wow!

Frank I agree we have to conclude our major purchases early. I also believe that it is Baldini who is handling our TW negotiations and not DL. Levy will have given him a budget and he is working with that. There are a number of solid Strikers we can go after that wouldn't break the bank. I'm expecting things to be done by 21/7. Breathe in, breathe out, repeat.
jvd
I've heard it's 3pm the kit launch
norwichspur
This may sound a bit stupid but surely if this is the first day players have been back to training, they will get their morning session out of the way, get showered then take the photos in the new strips? Apart from one or 2 players (Paulinho perhaps) I can’t imagine that this will have been done before they went away?? That been said I reckon the launch will be this afternoon earliest. Guys, another thing, can anyone name a single occasion (from any PL club) when new players were announced on the same day as the kit launch? It just doesn’t make sense.
hudderspur
I wish I could share your enthusiasm and trust that we will get the players we need, and have then in by 21/7, I have been a fan long enough to have had the annual disappointment, particularly during the last 14 years, of us fiddling whilst Rome burns, and often either missing out completely, or often settling for second best. All this for the sake of brinkmanship, and a determination to penny pinch.
Frank
hudderspur - Announcing new players with or on same day as kit launch wouldn't go down well with sponsors. It would distract attention from their advertising.
Hot_Spur
Frank - Yes we all know the history too well and if it wasn't for one factor - Baldini - I would agree. Baldini hasn't been brought in, possibly on hefty wages, for nothing. Levy continuing his ways would simply be paying Baldini for nothing. For that reason I think (hope) things are changing.

Madaboutspurs
Well said HotSpur, my sentiments also. However I think it is more than that. I just sense a new mood at THFC from the last 3 years. I sense a feeling of something being built. I sense that the management know that we have a solid base of players, a very good coach and there are just a few players needed to finally get us on the plane (to use a boating term) and going at full speed

Off to work and I know I will spend the rest of the day checking out Newsmow for some new signing!!

Hot_Spur
Little bit of anger in rome. They are reporting in the rome media that we have hijacked there deals for strootman and nani
jljyid
Coopsie, that could well be true
Frank - I'm sorry but £2m is not peanuts, as I mentioned earlier. If it was then why are Barca hanging around for it? It's called negotiations, these occur when two parties want to trade, the selling party generally starts the bidding high, the buy starts low and more often than not you meet in the middle. I read that €15m was the required figure, we are now at €10m and poker-faced Levy has got 4 aces, but don't tell Barca!!!
yiddyboy
Get Villa in early and that will help to push Adebayor out the door. Keep Defoe until we can get a second striker in, Benteke whoever, then get rid. Only problem I see is that Villa has expressed his desire to make the Spanish World Cup squad for 2014, and to make the squad he'll want to be the main man at Spurs to enhance his goal numbers and appearances. I couldnt see Villa agreeing to come to Spurs unless AVB told him that at Spurs he'll be first choice. In which case, it would be pointless signing Benteke to play second fiddle to Villa, unless of course AVB plans to play Villa on the right of a Bale/Benteke/Villa front 3? Now that would be some serious firepower!!
OzSpurs2013
coopsieyid - totally agree, but what do I know. I'm at work and I can only guess Frank is sitting on his own island somewhere in the Caribbean, with his yacht moored up. Where you and I have to make do with toilet paper, old Frank uses £50 notes. I do envy him ;-)
yiddyboy
it is unrealistic to expect all our business to be done in July, however much everyone, including levy would love that. some deals can be done early- paulinho, modric for example. others will inevitably go to the line. It is not easy buying players, especially when trying to improve a squad as good as ours without CL. The notion that levy should simply cough up whatever price is needed is also absurd. we are not privy to the negotiations so it us rather ridiculous to be criticising anyone over media claims, but if every transfer Levy has ever conducted cost 2 million more, then the club would not be in the healthy condition it is in now.
Guernman
OzSpurs Villa has been featuring on the left for Barca and Bale has done most of his damage I believe on the right for us. Either way Villa can play on accross the front.
Mix26
Guernman - Yes but every transfer Levy has conducted were not for a world class high profile player such as David Villa. What people forget is that apart from his goals on the pitch, there are numerous off the pitch benefits to such a high profile player. He is well with the 8.6 million being touted.
Hot_Spur
*worth*
Hot_Spur
Guernman - some sanity at last - agree! These days it is impossible to complete all the deals before preseason begins - can you imagine how we'd get scr--ed - drawn out negotiations is the norm.
Durbanspur
Liverpool have made 5 signings already - it can be done.
Hot_Spur
we will get villa IMO and for a fair price. around 8 million with performance add ons would be fair I think. it has also been suggested that barca want 12 million which is too much for a player with no sell on with 12 months left under contact. we all know what villa is worth off the pitch as well, doesn't mean we can afford to be mugged. I trust Levy to get it done, the question is will those who happily attack him for playing hardball, praise him if he gets the deal done on his terms?
Guernman
Well if 8 million is a fair price then 8.6 million isn't worth haggling over at the risk of another club jumping in and we lose him. He will repay the extra .6 million several times over probably
Hot_Spur
Hot_Spur - The extra 0.6 million would be recouped in shirt sales within 2 days of Villa signing.
SpuriousLife
hot_spur, how do you know levy is haggling over 0.6 million or 4 million? since we have no actual knowledge of the negotiations whats the point of attacking levy or baldini or whoever might actually involved
Guernman
Hot_Spur- thanks for the link...but nothing in it to change my mind..they didn't address salary and year 2+...just the same old tired we can't sign decent players tripe...
shedboy2
Hot_Spur; Douglas Bader was ok without legs :-) yeah he was good in the air, but shi7e at penalty's.
spu 4 life
Spurious - Exactly, and the increased awareness of Tottenham Hotspur worldwide would also bring extra revenue. Not to mention helping to attract other top players which we struggle to do sometimes. The knock on benefits are huge, .6 million is pocket money in comparison.

blimey how many 'extra' shirts do you guys really think Villa will sell? two hundred thousand people out there that'll only buy a shirt with Villa's name on the back??...c'mon get realistic, yes good players can market us, raise some shirt sales and other commercial opportunities but Villa is done, the kids don't play on the street wanting to be Villa anymore, they've moved on....might be a lesson there.

Amusing little snippet here from the Guardian. ............................ Monaco: still trying to sign anything that moves. They want to lure André Villas-Boas away from Tottenham even though they've already got a manager, Claudio Ranieri, for whom this must all be very familiar. Meanwhile Tottenham are very slowly closing in on the signing of David Villa from Barcelona and fancy a £10m swoop for Real Madrid wonderkid Jesé Rodríguez.

Two or three million quid here and two or three million there, a soon we're talking about real money. Pennies add up to pounds.
Total knobhead
Guernman - I think we've got crossed here. Several reports say that Barca are asking for 10 million Euros (8.6 mill pounds) but Levy is haggling, trying to reduce the price by a couple of million. You posted that you thought 8 million would be fair which prompted my response that the difference (.6 mill) would not be worth haggling over. I think we just got crossed purposes. My fear is that if Levy p1sses about haggling for too long another club (Athletico Madrid) might jump in as report suggest. Losing such a high profile player for the sake of a couple of million would be false economy, he could repay that easily and more.

I'm hearing Bernard's name linked to Spurs again. Don't know if it means anything, though.

its not the money... Levy is a bean counter..

Shed - I want him you don't. We'll just have to agree to disagree. If he comes and scores 20 goals, (not unrealistic), getting us CL football he will have paid for himself multiple time over.

Hot_Spur...Agree Villa commercially will most probably boost revenue through many different avenues, and, that yes deals can be done early.Liverpool should not be used as an example in this instance however.Firstly have you seen their latest signings(they do not compare to the world class talent we have just signed or are about to sign)Confederations cup slowed signing of Paulinho and hopefully Villa. For all we know this could also be the case for other intended targets for none of us know who they REALLY are.Young Croats are awaiting family return from holiday.(sensible move for ones so young). On this basis I am happy for the way the window is progressing.(slowly, slowly catch a monkey!) Considered purchases take time.Quality players take their time to analize all offers before commiting to a move.Quality clubs should take their time to scout/ bid on quality players. After all we are NOT talking peanuts here.
Cider spurs
TK - I'm not suprised if he is linked, surely when Paulinho agent was in contact with us, Bernard's name must have come up in conversation, these guys share the same agent.
spu 4 life
Hot_Spur But it's not JUST the two million, is it> It's the lost interest over the period that you are recouping that 2 million, which adds up to a fair bit of cash, so if we can keep the 2 M in the bank as well as retain the interest we have in the long run saved a lot of dosh, So as shirt sales are not paying back that 2 M we've won there big time as well, more profit all round for the future. Makes sense to me. Watch the pennies and all that.
chrishove123
if LeArse have bid 30million for Suarez (if true?) we should put in a bid of 32million and see if it sticks..(lots of beans there Danny boy)

he would be the one to have... Bale and Suarez...

I have to say that the 'launch' of our new kit has been handled quite badly today. It's all well and good saying it will be unveiled today but no time has been specified. Now that would be a good marketing ploy to get people to keep visiting the site if the site was actually working properly and had something interesting to read on there. Unfortunately our website isn't working properly and the big push is trying to sell tickets for our friendly against Swindon. The longer the day drags on the more of a damp squibb the kit launch becomes. Whoever is organising / managing this needs a good kick up the ar$e. Poorly handled and makes us look 'small time.' If the kit turns out to be those leaked then they'll be fairly disappointing too.

Does that mean they have sold Jovetic...? maybe not...

I don't think the shirt itself (IF it's the real one!), is too bad actually. The horrible thing about it is the HP logo, that I do agree on. Shame HP don't have a more subtle one, but there you go. I hear that HP was about the only sponsor willing to get close to what Levy wanted, so I guess we should blame him for it! Oh bo//ox, I might have just opened pelebore's box. Sorry.

Agree with CIDER re Liverpools signings, if we had put in a bid for any of the players signed, they would probably be with us now but the fact is, we are after better players and this takes time. SPURIOUS - with you 100% there, what a disappointing day. This is the first time I can say I was honestly excited and caught up in the buzz of a kit launch, how many of you would say the same? Something great is happening this year, I just know it is, but today has been a let down.

I like the home kit, although the collar isn't my cup of tea. The away kit is alright in design but 'Capri' blue... might have to see if it grows on me. I love the dark blue shorts and socks though. Kinda reminds me of the old Holsten/Addidas kit.
yidinchina
I like it, shame that the cyan HP logo clashes with the Spurs blue, looks better in black on the away kit. Still a lot better than the horrid Monsoon logo in red a couple of years back. COYS.

Kit looks ok to me what's so disappointing? What did people expect? Gold sequins? I'm pleased they've gone back to dark shorts, that's the "proper" spurs kit, how it always used to be, not that all white crap.

Block D - Hope you enjoyed the tennis. I don't watch it much now, lost interest when the racquets changed and the "serve bang, point over" era started. Bring back the old days, the Borg and Conners era, long rallies and strokes you hardly see these days. They were REAL tennis players. Some of the women were nice then too. Maria Bueno, Sandra Reynolds and even Sue Barker was appetising when she was that age.

I like the home kit although the logo would be better in a dark blue to match the shorts/socks. Not sure on the away kit, I think it would again look better as all dark blue with a white trim... I think the keeper kits both look decent as well.

tophobunty, we also signed 2 donkeys last year in Sigurdson and Dempsey. The Dempsey deal being a perfect example of a last minute scramble.

I couldn't be arsed to worry/comment on the kit.....but having seen coops latest links I just don't like the home kit with the clash of blues. It's like turning up for a football team and both teams have got the same shirts, but the ref has all these bright blue stickers and says, "right home team you stick these on"...
jacobslad
So much for "he has told Barca he only wants to come to us, he has seen the new training ground and is blown away, he has agreed personal terms etc.etc.". We are in the driving seat, we can hold fast and drive the price down, we are their only option. Then Villa joins Ath Madrid fancy that, we always go fishing with a hole in the net, or not enough bait.
Frank
Quite like the kits, wouldn't pay the price clubs are always demanding for them though. With regard to Villa; fans can blame Levy all they like - no doubt they will/are! - but Villa does have a say in the matter. Has anyone, the fans; press; club; etc. considered that he may actually want to stay in Spain? Think I'd prefer Madrid as well, to be honest.
Mex_yiddo
I think Frank, you'll find that Levy hasn't bought in more duds than any other previous THFC Chairman. I reckon that, for all he did for us, Sugar probably holds that particular gold medal. Especially if you chuck in managers as well.

Spuds-U-Like
We'll get used to the kit and learn to love it, all other supporters will think we look like tw4ts all season........g4y blue

TOP - agreed, this season is definitely look bright ;) Don't think Arsenal were expecting the 30M bid to be accepted anyway, but they need to show they are trying to please the fans - sound familiar? :)
EASY AS_AVB
On a goals/assists per 90 minutes played, Dempsey was second behind Bale and Sigurdsson was .01 behind Defoe. Both took a couple of months of playing to find their stride and from January on, they were only bettered by Bale. So, donkeys they may be, but Defoe has again (as was shown in the numbers year in and year out with Pav) to be as much a donkey as the others. Problem is, Dempsey and Sigurdsson are MF and are not expected to be scoring as often as Defoe. I hope we sign sufficient players to be able to sell both Dempsey and Defoe, but for me, Defoe would be gone long before Dempsey. COYS
peterballb
On the kits, really hate the HP logo. It destroys the kit IMO. The away strip very nice and clearly it will fit my 6 year old as Defoe has shown. Very professional though and I acknowledge there is not much that you can do to jazz up the HP logo. HP sauce would have been better. COYS
peterballb
Hot_Spur the thing is you chuck 2 million away like that each on four or five players and that is one more player you maybe need but can't buy now because you didn't push for the best prices on those players. It's all about long term and the BIG picture, even more so now we have AVB. Levy may get lambasted and slagged, but, he knows what he's doing and he does it very well. Maybe ENIC and Levy have been biding their time and just waiting for the right man since the Jol bust up. That's why it was all short term for 'Arry, he wasn't the right man for the long haul. Jol nearly was, but AVB is.
chrishove123
Don't like the new kit. Hope it grows on me.
jvd
The new lit is nothing special. I just hope I'm not saying the same thing about our new signings (assuming that there are more coming).
canadianspur
Oh my god! Just seen the new Levy Under Crap kits! Totally agree with peterballb, the HP logo kills the home shirt! Of course had the HP Logo circle been in navy blue, rather than in Manchester City Sky blue, it would have not been such of an eyesore! You would have thought Danny Boy would have learnt about respecting the colours after all those years of defacing the holy white shirt with red casino logos, but not our Danny Boy! The collar on the home shirt has to be the worst collar I have ever seen on any Spurs shirt ever! I agree with peter again on the front of the away kit, (heaven knows what on the back though?) much nicer collar and the HP logo in navy blue makes it blend in more with the navy trimmings. But what's our totally cool french keeper doing in all vomit green kit??? The training gear, navy and vomit lime green? I feel ENIC sick! Daws in the all Navy blue track suit looks cool though, unless of course Danny Boy has gone and put a streak of vomit green somewhere on the back? For Spurs fans who didn't not know, Levy made his millions through his family business, "Mister Byrite", the discount clothing chain of the 1980s and 1990s. Once a rag trade boy, always a rag trade boy!!!
pelebro
If DL ever gets injured ( paper cut, fingers trapped in wallet, comes out in a rash when overspending etc.) then I'll be happy for CH123 to stand in for him at the helm/ till whatever.
HuddersfieldYiddo
Oh well deja vue time again. Another window opens and more strikers become available but suprise suprise the all get snapped up by other more pro-active teams. Gomez, Villa, Leandro and others all available but all gone elswhere. We never learn do we.
pratts bottom
I was surprised not to see Clint Dempsey in the kit release pics on the website. Him being American, UA american brand, there is a real marketing opportunity there in USA shirt sales. Last season when Dempsey signed and UA got the shirts, I suspected he'd only been brought in for this reason, but he played "ok". WOnder if Dempseys omission from kit release pics means he'll be on the way out? Can the opposite be said for Defoe, who featured. Does this mean he's staying?
