'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Dempsey Departure Confirmed

Today, the club have announced that Clint Dempsey has returned to the MLS, ending a year at Spurs for the American.

However, in Spurs' brief statement regarding the transfer, the club he has transfered to has not been disclosed: 'We have reached agreement with Major League Soccer for the transfer of Clint Dempsey.

The United States international returns to MLS after making 43 appearances and scoring 12 goals in our colours following his signing from Fulham last summer. We wish Clint every success for the future.'

The fee paid for the 30 year old forward is around 6million, what we paid for him last year, and the club he has signed for is believed to be Seattle Sounders.

In my opinion, Dempsey has received a lot of harsh critiscm from the fans as many viewed him as a replacement for van der Vaart that didn't live up to his expectations or as a Moutinho alternative, which has gone against the American unfairly, as all three are completely different players.

I am saddened by Dempsey's departure, mainly because of the crucial goals he scored for us last year, some of them historic. You will always be remembered for slaying United - so long Deuce!

Not the first time I've been disappointed by a sale this season.
Liked the player. Scored a few very important goals. A little slow for the game AVB wants to play. Nothing wrong with him just doesn't fit the system. I wish all success in Seattle!
Very sad to see him go. He is a big game player. I wish him well. Truth is, his lack of speed and power limits us. There are better out there. Let's hope we fill the spot with better than Kane. His fee plus Caulkers has paid for Paulinho. Keep upgrading. COYS
Good job, scored the odd goal but not enough! Start of the deadwood clear out I hope!
great American player; good world player. he served the club well. nice transition guy for us on our way up. not the person that is going to take us to the promise land. but, he scored some key goals and can leave with his head held high. best of luck deuce.
Miami Spur
Good luck deuce! Solid player and a good squad player but I guess he wants first team football. Apparently he has left for personal family reasons. Hence the speed and silence.
One of those players who was never really given a chance. Used as a kind of filler in whatever role was needed on a game by game basis he did well to score the goals he did. Hopefully he will get a settled position at his new club and make the impact he deserves.
Best of luck Dempsey, suits everyone in a way. Money back and he goes home.
Would have preferred him in the game last night than Kane. Best wishes Dempsey.
He scored some vital goals for us last season, a good player to have in the squad. Wish him well, he is going back home so can't knock the guy for going. Now more importantly, our squad is looking thinner every day.
Good honest player who always gave his all, as others have said wish him nothin but the best. If only he was a little quicker!
Players like Dempsey were the reason we finished way above Liverpool and Everton. They gave us the strength in depth. Dempsey was the victim of our system. At Fulham he would drift in from the left and have guys like Zamora or Poegrebnyak as the battering ram. That meant he scored all of the goals.

The reality is that AVB already has 25 players with 8 homegrown and the only way he can buy another foreigner is to let one go. That is why in my mind Dempsey has been sacrificed. So will Ekotto. So will Adebayor. All 3 are better than some of the English contingent we have but play in the wrong positions to be retained.
Can't really remember his other goals, but the two against the mancs were TOTALLY AWESOME!
Like Siggy, AVB was slow to integrate Demps while he faffed about with the formation at the start of last year. We've lost a really good player from the squad.
Love totty
Given the way he was used, Dempsey did well. He made a contribution at key points in certain games. Clever play, well taken goals, and a firmness, a doggedness, of spirit. All the best for the future, Clint.
Dempsey gave us 100% and scored some valuable goals in important games. Fulham with less resources than us had a system to play to his strengths but at Tottenham we were not going to alter our style to suit Dempsey.
Always believed Dempsey was a good premier league player and he showed that in games and scored important goals, but he never suited the spurs style of play and believe it is now time for Holtby to get more game time and show us his ability. Good luck in the MLS Clint
Good luck Clint. I presume this was the best move for you and i wish you all the best. Cheers for your goals, the United one as mentioned will stay with me ha. COYS.
dempsey out - Soldado in...that's an upgrade in the striker department as supposedly that's what Dempsey was for us (never was never will be)...just hope we can supply the crosses for Soldado...
A bigger loss than some here think. He is an important squad player for us but he will be the focal point in Seattle. Best of luck Deuce.
Dempsey was never really given a chance at Spurs. It's all Harry's fault!
Jokes aside, all the amicable farewells here shows that even though he is not good enough, he's still pretty well-liked, probably because of his humble attitude. He truly deserves the superstar reception he got back home. And the hefty paycheck too...
