Its tingle time! This is it! The day we get to test our Champions League credentials with our new look first team. How we play and perform against the Woolwich will determine whether we are fourth or even third material. When we play Manure, Chelski, and Citeh will determine whether we really are, as the chosen one has said, title contenders.
I doubt our latest signings will be eligible, Lamela in particular. Having said that, Sandro looks like a man in the mood to break legs! Townsend looks like he wants to be Bale and if he can get his shots on target, why not? Recent history has shown us that, at the Emirates, we take a lead in the NLD and then just give it away. This time, if we take a lead, there is one of the best midfields in Europe for Woolwich to get through.
Can we Spurs fans call this result? Will Spurs win this fixture after the 2-3 win we had with that Kaboul header? Scum have backed off from Cabaye and Guaita and with just four days left in the window - Sanogo and Flamini on a freebie would appear to be the sum total of Scum`s summer transfer window.
We need to be solid we need to be compact. We have the players to shut down the spaces that Woolwich like to play in. We also have the pace to break out and create a threat. For me the battle will be won in the middle of the park. Santi Carzola may not score that often but he just about does everything else. Against Fulham,Carzolla was crucial to their 3-1 win. Forget Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshire and Tomas Rosicky, for me, Carzolla is Woolwich`s class act.
Keep Carzolla quiet and Woolwich will lack that creativity they need to split our defence. Carzolla`s weakness is against the big defenders and with Sandro or Etienne Capoue sitting in front of a Kaboul and a Vertonghen we have to say the balance of power will shift to us. Sidwell and Parker were inept against Carzolla put a Sandro and Capoue in front of him though and you have to believe it`s a step up in class he and Woolwich will have to face.
Woolwich also have their injuries with Oxo Chamberlain and Podolski out, Defender Thomas Vermaelen (back) and midfielder Mikel Arteta (thigh) continue their rehabilitation, and Abou Diaby ( knee) but the one man walking Red Card, Laurent Koscielny, is back after suspension. Midfielder Mathieu Flamini is likely to go straight into the squad having rejoined his old club this week on a free transfer from AC Milan.
How tight this game will be will be is down to AVB not Arsene Wenger. AVB knows what`s coming, Wenger doesn`t. This is a different and therefore unpredictable Spurs team that Wenger faces. Woolwich rely too heavily on players like Peanut, Giroud and Carzolla. For me Wenger will go for a mix of; Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gibbs, Ramsey, Wilshere, Cazorla, Rosicky, Walcott, Giroud, Fabianski, Monreal, Jenkinson, Sanogo, Frimpong, Flamini, and Gnabry.
How does that stack up against; Lloris - Walker - Kaboul/Dawson - Vertonghen - Rose - Sandro - Capoue - Townsend - Chadli - Dembele - Soldado - Paulinho - Defoe. It`s when you look at the bench that you see the strength in depth that Spurs have over Woolwich.
The intensity of the NLD will transfer from the seats to the pitch. The Spurs support will be immense. Woolwich supporters don`t know what to expect and in many respects neither do we Spurs supporters which makes this game even more intriguing because this time we have lots of Gareth Bale`s on the pitch! I just wishLamela had been signed in time what an option he would have provided!
