England Squad

So, the latest squad has been announced for the 'oh so important' upcoming friendlies. No point trying to come up with some sort of engaging article, it's International football, I don't like that, it bores the heck out of me. So here's the squad, what do you think of it?

Are there any surprises that you are happy with? Are you able to understand how our own little striker is once again selected for an England squad, despite barely playing for his club? Personally I'm chuffed to see Lallana called up, I really like his as a player, he's bright, enthusiastic, works hard, is a skillful little so & so, and will add a bit more flair to a usually very boring Englad set-up.

Anyway, in goal we have the choices of Forster, Hart and Ruddy. Personally, I'd like to see Forster given the nod, but that's just me.

In defence we have choices from Baines, Cahill, Cole, Gibbs, Jagielka, Johnson, Jones, Smalling, Walker...

In midfield we have choices from Barkley, Carrick, Cleverley, Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Lampard, Milner, Townsend, Wilshere.

Whilst in attack, we have the choices of Defoe, Lambert, Rodriguez, Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck.

So what do you think? As I said, I'm not that fussed because I find International football boring, but at least this topic will stop us from clogging up other threads whilst trying to figure out why certain players are selected, why Smalling & jones are in there, yet Dawson isn't, yet is part of one of the meanest defences in Europe. All I care about, as per usual, is our own players coming back unscathed. Over to you!

Pleased for Lallana who I feel is playing very well and has the intelligence to play international football. On current form he is better than Cleverley and Wiltshere, but in the case of the latter he is still deserving of his place. I feel tha Steven Caulker should have got in over Jones and Smalling, who don't play regularly at CB for United.

I like Rodriguez and lallana...also like Barkley...whilst i think Jones and smalling are massively over-rated...we're weak at CB! just hope he doesn't play walker as we've been running him into the ground and he will run out of 'gas' soon....

the reason I believe we are weak at CB is that Jones and Smalling rarely if even get to play there. I actually think in Cahill, Jagielka, Caulker, Jones and Smalling, as well as the likes of Dawson, Lescott, Shawcross, Steven taylor and Micah Richards (perhaps over him as a RB) give us depth, though I do agree that we perhaps lack that real outstanding quality in the first team

I hope that Forster gets a full 90 minutes and offers real competition for Hart. this for me has been a major mistake from Hodgson in not giving his back up keepers more game time so far

Forster is an excellent keeper, i too hope he gets some proper gametime to showcase his talent. I'd well put him ahead of Hart on current form.

I do sort of like the way we seem to be following the model of Barca an Spain an Ajax etc., with how we now seem to have a style through all sides from u17s to seniors. Technical players, good on the ball and quick in the mind seem to be getting more of a chance now as well, vital if we are to progress. I wanted players like Morrison, Berahino, Shaw to be called up but realise they are best served with the young uns right now. All the top teams blood players in when their ready, not just moments of brilliance. You only have to look at Macheda to realise that

At the back is my only complaints. Three left backs... Take one of them out, also one of the right backs an give Clyne a go. Looks real quality him. Also Smalling an Jones shouldn't be there, more so Smalling, I actually like Jones. Caulker def should an Daws as well. I think he's proven he can be a ball playing centre half

Oh an I think Hart is rubbish an Forster is very good so I don't think Hodgson should be saying Harts his number one. He doesn't need confidence the kid is the coockiest Gk I've seen. Just look at thos dandruff ads!

I'm not surprised but disappointed that Thud has been overlooked. If he stays fit I can see him staking a claim before the summer. He offers something different and is in his prime now. I was sorry to see him go.

BrooksySpurs - Morrison (guessing you mean Ravel) slapped Zaha in the face during the last u21's game - that boy has no England future until he cuts out the stupidity from his game. Right now, as talented as he undoubtedly is, he's a liability. I can't comment on Forster as I don't watch the SPL

For me it's a double-edged sword watching England as I always have more interest when one or more of our players are in the team. In the last 2 qualifiers it was Townsend tearing up the right that got me going. However we need them back safe and sound and these, are after all only friendlies and in the middle of a tough few games for us in the PL.

Yep, Caulker should be in. He is only behind Smalling & Jones because of their supposed versatility. It is that same versatility that ruined Carragher's international career, and is hampering Vertonghen's too. Caulker looks like the perfect replacement for Dawson in a couple of years time. I just hope that this mooted buy-back clause is true, and we get him back. The guy has become Cardiff's captain with just 2 EPL seasons under his belt. i agree that Hudd should be looked at, but he has played so little football lately that it will take a while for him to get back. Perhaps the Euros 2 years later. I am a fan of Lallana, and I hope he plays this time.

I don't watch it either King but I do watch Champs Lg an when Xavi says he's good enough to play for listen... As for Morrison, well the slap its petty I couldn't really care less its if he does something serious where I would worry. He seems to have cut that ridiculous behaviour out for now so I'd be willing to pick him in due time when he's ready. He can be a game changer there's no question. We need players like that, who aren't afraid, we don't have enough of them an they can be the difference

Bores me, too, except for any of our lads that are in the team. Then there's the possible injury aspect. Don't much like watching John Terry. I like watching Croatia and Real ... God, how I miss Modric!

Amazing how Smalling walks into the England squad despite always being injured or on the Bench for United. What has Dawson got to do to get into an England squad. Obviously 7 clean sheets out of 10 in the premier league is not good enough

It has been confirmed that Harry Kane has pulled out of the U21 squad with injury and will miss both games
