Hulk or Bulk ........

Hulk or Bulk ........

Now I'll state from the off that I'm not an outright lover of his play. However from all the recent press talk it seems there has been a big shift in the chances of Hulk playing under AVB again.

He was an integral part of the Porto team that AVB won the Portuguese league and Europa League with. He was part of a front 3 in that team and was rated very highly hence his expensive move and the astronomical wages where he is now. I'm on the fence about whether he would be right for our beloved team. To my thinking he is a very strong, direct, attacking player. But, from what little I've seen of him, I can't make up my mind if he is as good as his ratings are, is Hulk really as good as some think?

He's not renowned for his defensive abilities, which AVB seems to like everyone being involved in for Spurs. Part of the ethic that has seen us keep so many clean sheets this season. Also, from the little I've seen, he reminds me of Townsend with his shooting accuracy. With as many, if not more. in row Z than working the keeper. That said he's has got his fair share of goals and we seem to need a bulldozer up front according to some on here.

What do you other Spurs fans think about getting him. That's assuming Levy is willing to pay the price and also Hulk is willing to take a pay cut. (That would show he does really want to join up with AVB again). As I say I can't make my mind up about him so it would be i! nteresting to here your take on him.

Depends on the price, not much out there for the money being thrown about, plus how will he fit in to Avbs line up? would he be competition for Soldado or fit in a 4-3-3 formation, what happens with the bulk of midfielders we already have, if he does decide to change to 4-3-3. Personally I cant see it happening from what I understand of AVB is that he is unwavering in his formation and style throwing out the idea of a 4-3-3 and would levy sanction what would be 20mill+ deal for one of either him or Soldado to be left out for half the season? i have my doubts

Noooooo!!! Not the hulk!!! We need a big man upfront to compliment soldado (dzeko, Llorente, benteke). Come to think of it, we already have one of those, his head is just a little messed up (adebayor) which makes him about as useful as an empty cigarette box.

Can't see it happening, to much transfer cost and wages, we'd be better off with a younger prospect that fits in with the master plan. It will depend on Ade and JD staying or going, although think deal for Ade is already done.

When I have seen him I haven't seen any special and wondered what the hype is all about. However, AVB knows him and clearly likes him but I just cannot see how we will fit him in and keep everyone happy at the club. If he comes then I expect to see someone go and imo that could well Lennon or our two strikers Defoe and Ade and would the club take the risk of letting 2 PL strikers go and bring in a foreigner unproven in the PL. I think it would be a massive gamble losing Lennon at this stage so AVB needs to keep him happy, he is our most experienced PL in the final third of the pitch. Would we leave Soldado on the bench NO can't see that either, just cannot see where he would fit in and I am not sure about his quality.

Just what we need- another left footed right forward!....not for me. what we need is the negative of him...imo Diego Costa -right footed left forward who can also play through the middle...has the directness and physicality too....oh well..

If (and it's a big "IF") Hulk did sign for Spurs and he played on the right he would be more effective than Townsend imo. The guy can out muscle the defence with his size and he has the pace and directness to go with it. The guy knows how to score and he has a powerful shot and like most Brazilians, also has a delicate touch. Another good reason why Spurs might benefit is firstly, he knows AVB from his Porto days and they seem to have a good professional relationship and secondly Hulk has played with Paulinho and Sandro at international level. This will help him settle quickly. So what are the cons. The price tag for starters. 30 million is a lot of money and do we actually need him as we have Townsend, Lennon and Lamela? We could play him left but would we miss his shooting ability? It never bothered another left footer in Giggs so I don't see a problem there. Also bear in mind he could be an effective SS, which I think could be the key reason for signing him and he has the ability to play in any formation. 442, 433, 352, 4231 and so on. It's been well documented that he has a temper on him. I don't mind a bit of fire in the belly..it means he's a winner but I'm sure some may see it as a problem. The last con is not Hulk but priorities elsewhere. We need a specialist LB and another striker. I personally would like to see cover at RB as well. Someone like Micah Richards would be great but clearly we need another keeper. Anyway that's my penny's worth. Personally I would like Hulk at Spurs. He knows what it takes at a high level and he knows how to win. COYS!

Shedboy, agree with you on Diego Costa. He would be awesome. So would Llorente. Hulk would probably cause more tactical headache. I think the problem we have is we need someone like Sherringham, to play off Soldado. Eriksen and Holtby and more midfielders than forwards. The way Raul, Del piero would play. Perhaps Lamela could be given the chance to play in the middle of the attacking 3.

Seems as if together we are undecided. Some for, some against, and some not sure either way. Thanks all.

Ii is highly unlikely that Hulk will come to Spurs, his fee, his wages and if in fact he is available the likely competition from other clubs, who can offer CL football, and wages equal to, or exceeding those that he is used all conspire to make the move to us less attractive.

having said that I'm not sure a lump, a player reliant on brute force and ignorance, is what we want.

Frank if Hulk relied on brute force I doubt he would be playing at this level but it certainly is an asset to have. Bobby Smith, one of the great centre forwards was known as a brute, a basher if you like but some people seem to forget that not only was he too brave for his own good but he was a brilliant forward with bags of skill and a lethal finisher and was great in the air and on the deck. My point is there is more to Hulk than just his physical presence. COYS!

James1 ........... Smudger wouldn't last 20 minutes nowadays. He'd be yellow carded everytime he went for the ball !!! lol............. Frank.... I don't think he's just a brute and strong as an ox but I think he has some nice touches too. Also I said about a wage drop and the cost of him being prohibitive for Levy. Just he's been making noises about how he'd like to be playing for AVB again.

Longtimespur, after today's result he soon might have to sign for somebody other than Spurs to play for AVB again.

James you may want to revise your opinion about Hulk having a 'delicate' touch. Watching him play for Brazil in the confederation cup, he looked akin to a bulldozing donkey.

Let's show some real intent and foresight...our strikers are ageing and never gonna progress THFC. Thus....£50 mill'....should get you HULK and Yarmolenko. Lose Defoe, Adebayor, BAE, Lennon. It's the way to go... imho.
