Short Term Solutions

There seems a pretty good chance that there will be very little activity from Tottenham in this months transfer window, and following on from such a hectic and destabilising summer, that seems sensible. Despite adding seven new and bringing back two loanees in Townsend and Rose, we still find ourselves short in a couple of areas, as the squad is frustratingly ravaged by injuries to key players, as as is soften the case, injuries seem to come in positional groups, as you lose both left backs, two of four centre backs or 3 of four central midfielders. Tomorrow, we may even find ourselves without two of our three strikers, should Adebayor miss out along with Defoe.

These things happen, and it isn't only at WHL. If we recall Man Utd, having to play Fletcher and Carrick together at centre half for a couple of games, after losing all of their other players for that position. These things clearly cannot be legislated for, as you can only play the percentages, and somehow, a weakness will always find you out, whether you are the richest or poorest club in the game.

Sp far Tim Sherwood has done well and rightly received praise for playing the likes of Bentaleb, Fryers and Kane in his short time in charge, and not only have they not looked out of place, but they have looked comfortable and may feel be the sensible route to take in the development of the team over time. Problem is that when still competing on three fronts, all squads get stretched to their limits and it may not be wise to over play the kids, but just let then find their feet at a more measured pace, as opposed to pushing them too early and damaging them for the longer term.

Of course Spurs have and will allays be linked with a few big money moves, whether they have any truth in them or not. Of course will would be interested in a player like Luke Shaw to cover the left back berth, but so would every other side that could afford him. We know that United, Chelsea and Liverpool are all desperate for a left back, so we are in some pretty big company. The same will apply to many others, but as Sherwood has stated, we already have a big squad and unless that new player can improve the best XI, are we wise to commit to long term expense, when we perhaps have a youngster emerging or a player injured, but soon to return?

If we consider we have the likes of Carroll, Livermore, Pritchard, Cabellos and many more on loan or doing well in the development squads, it is obvious that bringing in new faces, will probably force them out or at the very least, stunt their development. No disrespect to a player like Capoue, but is he really that much better than Livermore or Tom Huddlestone for example, whilst players like Carroll or Pritchard have huge potential and perhaps just need the chance to prove it.

With that in mind, loans or short term solutions may well be the sensible route to take. We also have to consider that we are a relatively young squad and having a couple of elder players amongst the youth, will actually hold us in good stead. This was something Harry Redknapp did with the likes of Gallas, Friedel and even Ryan Nelsen, and in truth it worked quite well. Is this a potential happening with Sherwood, who of course worked well with harry and perhaps follows some of his ideas.

We have heard several rumours that Dimitar Berbatov could be looking to leave Fulham and is a player of huge quality and has ability to play as the main or No10 striking roles, as does Juve's Mirko Vucinic, who may or may not be available, depending on who you listen to. Both have bags of experience and could save Emmanuel Adebayor some workload, and perhaps allow Harry Kane to spend half a season away, playing games and gaining experience. QPR perhaps?

Defensively, I do worry about Younes Kaboul and whether he will ever be fit to play regular football again, whilst he has also entered his final six months of his contract with us. Can Levy gamble on another deal, when he is so troubled by injury? Perhaps a short term arrangement, but what is to stop someone like PSG, Monaco or anyone else offering him the security of a longer contract, with the acceptance that he may well be brilliant or he may be a crock. Yesterday Joleon Lescott was mentioned as a possible loan signing and though he isn't one to excite the fans, he is a very good player, who knows the Prem and has the versatility to play CB or LB, making Jan Vertonghen's position more stable, whilst also allowing him to be rested without too much disruption.

I assume the fact we have allowed BAE to play in the FA Cup this weekend, but haven't allowed Tom Carroll to do the same, might indicate that Benny's time with us has ended, but what of TC? Does this mean we will bring him back or is there a Premiership move on the horizon? Personally, I hope he stays on loan somewhere, as long as he gets games, over simply being one of our squad. Seeing him play 20 games as opposed to the occasional one with us, and becoming frustrated or stagnate.

For a relatively small outlay and short term commitment, we might just be able to strengthen our squad, add experience, whilst either allowing the kids to grow slowly or perhaps spend time away. We don't of course know what Sherwood and Baldini intend to do with the current squad and perhaps there are one or two that don't fit into Tim's plans and might well be better served moving on. We will hopefully lose Gomes to allow for another wage to replace it, but though you don't see too many obvious weak links, a player like Defoe leaving and being replaced by either Berbatov or Vucinic, might actually offer better balance and quality to what is already a very good squad...

First priority is CB
Jesseb
Yes to Lesscott offers simple solution to LB and CB issues and can play with all the CB we have. Yes to Another forward as Defoe is off who that is I don't know not sure Vucinic is the answer but the only other shout has been Shane Long.....Is there a better fit out there than those two start searching your scouting net works.
spurdon
I would love to see Carroll back. It would be interesting to see what Tim can get from him. Looks like BAE is staying with QPR for the time being…….. Unless we can sign someone top-notch, I'm happy with our present squad until the seasons end.
MAN ON!
…… However, Lescott is a good shout.
MAN ON!
There is a clear problem at centre half, Kaboul is essentially a passenger. I don't see how we can sort this out before the end of the season so a loan deal for Lescott might work well. He will be desperate to try and force his way into the world cup squad so I don't think there will be any lack of commitment.
jod
This is a really long article for short term solutions!
Geofspurs
I think Kaboul is back in training but unfortunately, I don't think he'll ever be a 100% again. Here's hoping…..
MAN ON!
Lescott would be a good addition to the squad + another striker to cover Defoe leaving. I would leave TC on loan, to continue his progress, as we have too many mid-fielders atm, so he wouldn't get much playing time. Apart from that it's a matter of getting, and keeping, everybody fit. Wait until the summer to see if TS has earned his 18 months or we get another manager, if he hasn't, before we buy any more players.
longtimespur
LOL geoffspur
longtimespur
I think Lescott would be a good bit of business, especially on loan. It looks likes Jan is out for at least another month or so that only leaves us with Daws and Vlad. Sorry but we cant count Kaboul, as sad as it is he can manage maybe a game or two then breaks down. Lescott would be perfect until the end of the season. Used to the premiership and hungry to play. I can’t see anything else happening unless Defoe goes, and even then cant really see who we would bring in.
hudderspur
That was the longest 1st on record, Jesseb. Yah, I know you didn't read it but just scrolling down was a *****er, wasn't it?
jerkinmahjurgen
I've said it before but I really don't think there should be a JTW. It can cause disruption as much as it can be beneficial. After all we have plenty of squad players not getting much game time as it is. Lamela being a good example. There's also no guarantee that anyone coming in will hit the ground running and that's really what's needed…….. Modric on loan, Geofspurs?
MAN ON!
As I've said previously, I don't think we need anybody unless they return from loan spells. We are a bit unlucky with injuries at the moment, but that will improve. I'd like to know what Levy's thinking is; if he plans on bringing in a new manager at the end of the season, or it happens despite his plans, then the new man should be there to select the players he wants. I know Sherwood has a contract for 18 months, but what does that mean?! We seem to be doing pretty well now with a depleted squad and a change in style. It should only get better (I think/hope). We have enough players to try and work out without adding more. But then ... I can think of some arguments to strengthen a bit, I suppose.
Geofspurs
Lescott and Berba good for short term
tophobunty1882
MAN ON ... I was thinking more ... Modric for life!! Just going off to have a little cry. Thanks for that MAN ON!!
Geofspurs
Lescott would be a wonderful deal if we can get it done quickly, not sure we'll be able to get a striker of the quality we need in Jan so maybe a loan again is the answer for cover.
fletch77
Given that Kaboul may well have played his last game for us then a CB makes sense as we need one more long term anyway. Regarding strikers why not give Lamela a go? He played second striker for Roma. He needs to be given a run of games to see if he can actually cut it or not.
Kes80
from the rumours Ade is going to be good to play on Saturday. YES.
chrishove123
topho ... agree with you about Berby, and maybe Lescott too.
Geofspurs
Townsend, Defoe and Holtby are all back training.
Kong
Oh and I think Capoue is definitely better than Livermore and very different type of player to Huddlestone. I thought we looked much more comfortable against ManU with Capoue on the pitch than after he was subbed.
Kes80
Kes80, I agree with you on Lamela. I really can't see the point of loaning him out, as it's been rumoured.
MAN ON!
I'm not sure Levy would have Berbs back but at £2m it's a steal. He is different class to some of the others we needn't have brought back. I agree with others who've mentioned Berbs could play till he's late 30's, but I think I can also remember him saying he didn't want to play too long past 30. Years ago he said it.
jerkinmahjurgen
CB's only a problem because LB was....verts, Daws, Vlad and Kaboul would normally be enough for two positions but the failure to land a LB meant running Verts into the ground...so lescott can play both positions is prob the best we can hope for...oh the days when we thought we had money and could buy a player like coentrao....
shedboy2
Lescott on loan makes good sense. I'm looking forward to seeing Chiriches and Vertonghen together. Could be a great CB pairing. Still a big Dawson fan as well though. The spirit of the team.
Archibald Leitch
We could buy Coentrao. We've got £10m apparently and need to sell a player as well. That's enough to buy him.
jerkinmahjurgen
I am a little concerned about our striker situation. I do think Soldado is playing very well but, of course, he needs to start scoring. Ade, apart from the WBA game has been fantastic but I am worried that he'll not keep it up. Not for the obvious reasons but because of a lack of match-time. I can see him being knackered before long. (Not Shane)! Kane is just back from injury and, I know some will disagree, but I thought he looked good coming on at OT. Who knows what when it comes to Defoe? (I would like him to stay until the end of the season). All said, I'd rather not have us rely on midfielders alone to score our goals, even though I'm certain that Eriksen will chip in with a few more and others are just as capable. COYS!
MAN ON!
I can just visualise Berba,Ade & Soldado weaving beautiful patterns between bemused defenders. But Tim would have to be a genius to keep those 3 egos happy. However 'Audere est facere'. I'd be lovin it!
Greavesaboveall
It's been a while since you gave Livermoor a plug Ox fair play! From the little I've seen of Capoue this season he is 10x the player Livermoor was in the lot I saw him last season.
spurticus87
I've just seen that former Spurs great Mido, has been tweeting that Salah is on his way to Liverpool and they will loan Sterling out to Swansea. (I know a few of you would like to see Salah at Spurs) I'm not so sure…...
MAN ON!
I really can't, (don't want to), see Berbatov back at Spurs.
MAN ON!
He'll no man on! Lescott on the other hand! City's defence was epic untill they tried to play nastic and hasn't been the same since! Experienced strong, great positionaly, left sided centre back! Yes please!
spurticus87
MAN ON ... Trouble is, if anything happens to Ade we have nobody that can hold the ball up well ... Berby can do that brilliantly, so I think he'd be the perfect back-up, just in case.
Geofspurs
If Berbatov did return then it would be great to think that he owes us and would shine once again, but for me, he's not what we need. Get Lamela in there. Young, hungry and talented. The future, not the past…… :-)
MAN ON!
So we all agree on Lescott then ! As loan deals go that would be one of the best particularly as I fear with Kaboul we may have another Woodgate on our hands. As for Shane Long he is not a prolific goalscorer so will fit in well at Spurs LOL Cannot be worse than Defoe and will do no harm
cynicspur
Too right Geoff,we have to consider how many injuries teams have nowdays.Whether it's the pace at which Premiership football is played or those ballet shoes they wear ,it is a serious problem.Berba would be a fantastic bloke to have on the bench,Just keep him supplied with fags and he'll be content to wait his turn.
Greavesaboveall
Lescott, I think is as safe a bet as you can get. I'm sure he would relish the chance of proving himself to Mr. Hodgson.
MAN ON!
Berba and Ade are 2 very different strikers. Ade's workrate in the last few games has been immense, Berba will not run the channels like Ade but has better technique. TBH i would rather we promote Kane until the end of the season and sign a long term hungry striker. Lescott makes perfect sense. I expect to see Kaboul gone when his contract expires, sadly another King scenario.
spurfect one
Greavesaboveall, It's what he puts in those fags that concerns me. Half the time he's on the pitch, he looks stoned!
MAN ON!
spurfect one, I agree with you on both Berba and Kane…..
MAN ON!
No Berbatov return to WHL except in a visiting shirt. No way. Don't want him here. I'd as soon bring back Keane, lol, and he's long past his sell-by date.
Falstaff the Fool
Can one seriously suggest that Livermore is as good as Capoue? I haven't seen him play this season, but unless he's been reborn...
Falstaff the Fool
When all is said and done Tim has done a good job, so far. Considering, that even if he wanted to, he hasn't been able to play the same starting 11 twice running. Our still very strong squad may yet prove itself good enough, as I can only see us improving along the way.
MAN ON!
If Defoe goes, and I hope he does by the way, I'd like to see Lamela playing at the #10 slot at times. Something tells me we haven't seen him used properly yet. He's a good player waiting to happen, I suspect. Soldado, Adebayor, and Lamela could make a decent rotation up front, I think, if Lamela gets settled in. An interesting front 3 in a possible 4-3-3. (I know, I'm supposed to support only a 4-6-0, but give me some leeway, lads, and a 4-3-3 is only a variant of a 4-6-0. he he.)
Falstaff the Fool
Geoff, sometimes that's the only way you can watch Spurs.Anyone got a spliff?
Greavesaboveall
Lesscott would be a great addition to our squad for the remainder of the season and on loan he'd definitely represent value for money which after the summer Levy will be very keen on.

If Tim is ready to do some proper business then a first class striker is needed for the long term. Playing under AVB we played one up top so with Soldado, Ade, Defoe and even Kane we had one playing, one sub and two reserved meaning we had plenty of cover. Playing two up top means we'll suffer a lot more striker injuries and considering Defoe and Ade recent problems it is an area we are weak, I hate the thought of Chadli starting next to Soldado, or even Kane for that matter. As Greaves pointed out having Ade and Berbatov in the same squad would be suicide although if you dropped Soldado to sub/Europa games Ade and Dim could be a pretty potent strike force.
T.H.F.Chris
MAN ON cheers mate.

Falstaff, imo livermore is shining in a team that has considerably less talent then ours that are punching above their weight, if or when he comes back to us he will be shown up as average compared to the majority of our MF'S, harsh reality I'm afraid.
spurfect one
spurfect one, I haven't, as I said, seen Livermore play while he's out on loan, but his performances at WHL left me thinking he's a fairly limited player. Thanks for the feedback, mate.
Falstaff the Fool
Falstaff….. I would rather have Dempsey back on loan!
MAN ON!
Looking at the medium to long term Adebayor is not a player you want in your team. You want players that give 100% commitment at least 99% of the time, you don't want players that give 110% commitment 50% of the time. You don't want a player that gives 110% because he wants to prove a manager wrong or is playing against a former side (Arsenal last season, 2-0 up and gets himself sent off for a mindless tackle). The man has never grown up, has fallen out with probably every manager he's played for. We need to look beyond him for the future, get rid end of the season. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
Darren Bent is available.Lol.
Greavesaboveall
I'm not a fan Lescot and would rather we loaned a player we would actually be interested in signing later on. As for replacing defoe maybe we should give Lamela his chance up front with ade or soldado as his partner. Would definitely like to see a pairing like that in the cup game.
Rapm
ItalianYiddo, I've said exactly the same as you about Adebayor but, playing as he has been, for now, I'm giving him the benefit of my doubt. (Much worse men than him, have changed for the better). We'll see….
MAN ON!
Even if Ade is fit tomorrow, I'd rather he was rested and yes Rapm, stick Lamela up there.
MAN ON!
Erik (thigh), Kyle Naughton (ankle, hamstring), Paulinho (ankle), Gylfi (calf) and Jan (ankle) are all out. I assume Erik is lamela so there goes him playing tomorrow.
Kong
Harry Kane then? But he's just back from injury himself….
MAN ON!
Our players do seem to get injured without playing much, Siggy, Holtby, Defoe, Naughton and now Lamela.
Kong
Italian ... I get a bit worried when people talk about giving more than 100% ... much prefer, give it all you've got!!

spurfect ... I don't see Kane as anyone who can hold the ball up until the cavalry arrive. If not Berbatove, then someone that can do a similar job to him and Ade, but Kane cannot do it ... yet!
Geofspurs
Tophobunty, agree 100% on Berbatov & Lescott.Still a massive fan of berbatov & imo, still better than Adebayor,Defoe & Soldado. For short term Berbatov would be an ideal January sale, any improvement is still improvement.

A left back would be great as Rose is average & Naughtons only good as right back.
Please sell Siggy,he`s pants
Fanny adams
MAN ON! You are right we live in hope, I just remember him lumbering on last season and I remember when he was playing for a contract, two different players. When you are on £190K? a week your commitment should never be questioned.
ItalianYiddo
MAN ON ... I had not thought of that, but I think you're right and Ade could do with a day off. It would make a difference to how we set up, which might be a challenge for Sherwood, but we should have an easier time against Palace with a fit Ade (even if we are at home).
Geofspurs
Where does it say Lamela is injured?
Rapm
ItalianYiddo RE: Adebayor,great post.
Keep Adebayor sweet until the summer then get rid,his next mood swing is always just around the corner. He`s great when he has a point to prove, but there`s something wrong with a player who only plays his best in these situations. If only he could just play his best because that`s his job,his occupation & his responsibility to respect the ones who pay his wages. The honouring of contracts has to work both ways.
Fanny adams
Holtby, Townsend and Defoe back in training.
longtimespur
Rapm, Spurs twitter site saying those players I mentioned are out tomorrow.
Kong
JUAN MATA has been told by Chelsea he can leave the club.
Man i`d love it if we got him, outstanding player imo.
Fanny adams
I wonder if we'll see Coulthirst tomorrow. I'm sure he's due a run out soon. As much as I want a win against the Gooners I feel we should rest a couple. We can do without anymore injuries. It's always a dilemma in cup matches though and we will need a strong team to win it tomorrow…..
MAN ON!
That's all there is on @spurs official site. No mention of the injured yet but they haven't put up the squad for tomorrow's game yet either.
longtimespur
Re Ade ... Don't focus on what was, or what might be, just focus on what is ... and Ade is beyond fault at the moment and deserves our support and recognition for that, unless it changes. He's wearing our shirt and performing well.
Geofspurs
AVB would have liked him at Spurs, I'm sure. ;-) Mata, that is...
MAN ON!
The Goat just posted this:
Juan Fernandez and John Philip Sousa would lead you to the conclusion.
Thoughts?
Rapm
MAN ON! I suppose it doesn`t Mata now :)
Fanny adams
Fanny Adams, it pains me to see so many players not realising how privileged they are. I think it was Rio Ferdinand that was looking for sympathy on twitter for not being able to celebrate the new year, your heart bleeds for them.
ItalianYiddo
Lamela must be injured from all the splinters on his backside from sitting on the bench.
Kong
Fanny adams, Haha! There's only Juan Tim Sherwwod!
MAN ON!
Not in a million years would Chelsea sell/loan Mata to us. Long term I'm not sure we need him in the long term, Eriksen and Tom Carrol are the future.
ItalianYiddo
Adebayor cleared to play on Sunday vs. Arse n'all.
Falstaff the Fool
ItalianYiddo, agreed and, Eriksen is starting to look the business but with a lot more to come, I'm certain.
MAN ON!
Our Timmy said he "cramped up in all areas." Got to lay off that pre-match drink of Red Bull. Not good for forwards and other living beings.
Falstaff the Fool
*Or even Sherwood!
MAN ON!
The match is tomorrow…….
MAN ON!
MAN ON! I was only joking about having Keane back. God forbid. As to Dempsey, I didn't do much in North America, I'm afraid. I think he's into a serious decline.
Falstaff the Fool
We all agree we're light at left back, centre back and probably up front (despite the resurrection of Adebayor but assuming Defoe is on his way out of the club). Does anybody know what the left back(s), centre back(s) and striker(s) in our youth set up are like? I'd like to see them get a chance rather than bringing in more new players in January. They might surprise us. If we don't try we'll never know.
SpuriousLife
MAN ON! We got a bargain in Eriksen, he will show his worth over the next couple of season, at 21 he has a lot to go before he reaches his full potential.
ItalianYiddo
coopsieyid, It's funny how it works out for some players. Mourinho doesn't rate Mata but he was the Chavs best player of last season. Not deemed good enough for them anymore but too good for another PL outfit!
MAN ON!
Falstaff the Fool, I know, I was also joking about Dempsey…….
MAN ON!
Thanks for waking me up to the date, MAN ON! I get discombobulated about the calender when I'm in Brasil on the beach. When I'm in NYC I always know what day is which. Can you imagine my shock to discover we'd already beating Arse n'all when I was looking to a link to watch on Sunday? Anyway, Adebayor can start at the #9 with Lamela at the #10, unless the injury reports about our Eric are right. Then, it's back to the Adebayor/Soldado match. An open play goal for Ade and a penalty (set up by Ade) for Soldado.
Falstaff the Fool
SpuriousLife, If anyone is likely to give our youngsters a shout, it'll be Sherwood.
MAN ON!
Mata will have a choice of CL clubs. Eriksen was a bargain Lamela wasn't so are we still at 50%. Chadli looks expensive at 6500 also.
tophobunty1882
I think Dempsey is joking about Dempsey, MAN ON!. Isn't he slated to come on loan to Fulham this month. Needs to rejuvenate his career. Dempsey's been MAN OVERBOARD for the past few months.
Falstaff the Fool
Ade refused to take his hat off so AVB refused to play him. What coaching badge does that come with?
tophobunty1882
I have read that City may consider loaning out Lescott, albeit late in the window, depending on their situation.
MAN ON!
MANON tomorrow is the only match you can never rest players for, them and maybe even Chelsea are matches where pride is more important than the bigger picture. A win tomorrow keeps our momentum going, slows theirs and knocks them out a winnable cup competition. Full strength team essential mate.
T.H.F.Chris
Falstaff the Fool, I'm sure Fulham need him more than us…...
MAN ON!
We're only 8 points of the top which isn't so much at this stage of the season. We shouldn't give up any hopes for our aspirations or even surpassing them. Coentrao, Lescott and even Berbs... all proven quality that would help us through to the spring for around £20m. This has to be close to the best scenario, unless our kids, Shane Long and BAE are hiding something up their sleeves. And it's achievable.
jerkinmahjurgen
T.H.F.Chris, I know, you're right. Just worried about more injuries or players like Ade and Lennon being knackered after running their asses off. Still, for the first time in ages, they'll have a week off to recover.
MAN ON!
Adebayor has had about 18 months off :)
Fanny adams
Geofspur, i agree kane can't hold the ball up like Berba. But imo kane is progressing into a good player and stunting his growth for a player who shat on us and will be a stop gap at best does not feel me with delight. A loan move would be the best option imo.
spurfect one
That's precisely why I think Ade will be knackered. He's had so much time off….. (Unless he is now super fit). But he literally ran himself into the ground against United, with 20 mins to go.
MAN ON!
MANON it will be fingers crossed watching the game, only saving grace is we are quite lite for matches in Jan, after this I think it's just one a week (unless 4th round is in there).
T.H.F.Chris
When does the EL kick off again?
MAN ON!
I think we might be able to field the same 11 should we want to. Wouldn't be surprised if we did, unless one or two are carrying knocks so don't get risked. With a week to recover and such a big match, I think Tim'll put them out there if he can and change a couple on the hour if need be. Glad there's been confirmation of lol given regarding some recruitment suggestions. Phew.
jerkinmahjurgen
Spurfect, we are wasting time effort and money on Kane, never will be good enough
tophobunty1882
That's not true about Tim Sherwood being offered the job before Coopsie.
tophobunty1882
in Feb, Man On, I think.
jerkinmahjurgen
Coopsie got offered it?? wft!
jerkinmahjurgen
Feb 20th, miles away mate. Jan fixtures are very easy, February very hard, congestion wise.
T.H.F.Chris
Fanny very true ref Ade, should be good to go til the end of the season. He has had some significant issues to deal with off the pitch on top of what clearly has been a difficult head to get focused it appears add a sprinkling of juvenile poor management and you have the Ade of this season up until the sacking of AVB.
tophobunty1882
Lol jerk
tophobunty1882
And ***** off Mark *****ing Hughes. We know what you're poxy instructions were. Lout.
jerkinmahjurgen
Guys I think Mirko Vucinic is the man for us. He's simply the better version of Berba who's slightly younger. Would cost us around 6M, wouldn't be too much of a risk. If you got time check him out for yourselves. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URElCJ_b_cA. Along with the majority I think Lescott would be a good acquisition, believe even if we got him we would still need a LB as hes not that technically gifted. No need for a excellent LB as I think Rose has huge potential unlike lotts on here, we just need to give him good competition which I dont think Fryers offers yet. Think we should get Vucinic regardless of Defoe leaving, he would really bring something diffferent and I believe hes carved out for the PL. If Defoe is sold I think we should go for Long, a lot on here think hes rubbish but I think hes a real threat and for 2M is a real steal. We dont need to spend a lot to get to where we should be, just a few tweaks need to be made to the squad. COYS!
SpursSnM
Has Charlie Adam injured anyone else over this period of time spent fouling Tottenham players, or has it just been Tottenham players? Anyone know?
jerkinmahjurgen
Top, I'm not for one minute suggesting Kane will be our No 1 Striker, but as a back up option we could do worse.
spurfect one
We could also do a lot better and should be looking at improving every squad member at any time. Kane is an obvious opportunity for improvement
tophobunty1882
Fredericks should go to Norwich til the end of the season.
tophobunty1882
When Harry Kane was offside,he then leathered it into the stands before spitting on himself

http://www.livesoccertv.com/news/8573/hilarious-amateurism-spurs-harry-kane-offside-kicks-ball-away-and-spits-on-himself/?he was offside.

Harry Kane actually had no idea he was offside & was having a shot at goal.:)
Fanny adams
Vicinic gteed to be better in the prem than Berba? That's a serious meths consumption statement. Or even the better version, same fluid intake
tophobunty1882
Fanny, no way not possible it was way to close to be a shot at goal, come in he's nit that good
tophobunty1882

Coops, good point mate. The most pleasing thing is Kane's progression, imo he really has upped his game and his development is moving in the right direction. Tophobunty, any young player is an obvious opportunity for improvement as they still have a lot to improve themselves, only time will tell. I remember completely writing off Kaboul as a $hit defender when he come to us as a youngster but he became our best defender for a while, until his injuries of course :(.

11 players in the physio room, buying 7 players in the summer was not a bad idea after all, we would down to steffen, tim and les playing had we not done so, is Chris Ramsey any good? His old boy ain't bad, by that I mean Aaron.

Good link, Spurs4life. Any room in this film for Duncan Goodhew? Otherwise Levy misses out.

Modric? Many called him too lightweight for the PL. I've heard the same said of Kane and Carroll of course, as well as Lamela. I don't believe it myself.
MAN ON!
I don't know why people are slating Kane. He seems like he has a really quick footballing brain, how many other players would have thought to hoof the ball out of play when he was offside like that just to waste a bit more time knowing that what he did was within the rules so no booking. Benny certainly wouldn't have, he'd just boot it upfield without thinking. Kane IMHO has a very bright future ahead of him, I just hope it is in a Spurs shirt.
chrishove123
Confirmed, Ade fit to face Le Arse.
chrishove123
If he plays let's hope he kills them with a couple of blinding goals but doesn't get himself sent off this time…...
MAN ON!
Kane lovely bit of ball control but when he is on as a sub I would like to see him running a bit and putting pressure on the oppositions mid field. Maybe Ade was wanting to impress but that was what he did all afternoon at OT
Big Ron
Fanny adams I have read that Ade is to be offered a new contract if he performs, so we won't be getting rid of him, and that may well be the reason he is playing so well atm, he always does when he sees a new contract on the horizon, or am I just being too cynical? long may his resurgence continue though. Maybe, just maybe he WILL carry on in this vein after he gets it because of the way TS is treating him and the love he now feels from the supporters in the way his name was sung out at OT.. I certainly hope so as he is such an asset when he is like this.
chrishove123
If Ade can get it into his head that, as the song goes; We're the best team he'll ever play for, and that no other bunch of supporters would cheer him on as loud and proud as we did at OT, Then he could be a Spurs legend in the making…... I did see a flying pig on the back of a pink Elephant once!

NO Chance Adebayor will be offered a new contract,Spurs will just get what they can from him & hope he performs.
One good month from Adebayor doesn`t make up for 18 non existent ones. One swallow doesn`t make a summer & all that.
Let`s hope he plays well & leaves with some credibility,Adebayor thrives on peoples attention & naivety.Plays his best for him to look good in order for someone else to look bad,it`s in his DNA.
You can fool some of the people, some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can`t fool all the people all of the time.Adebayor has reached that point & has made a killing doing so.Noone has played the contract system so well as Adebayor, fairplay it`s clever, but paying punters should in no way be happy about that.

Last season of Manchester City subsidising Adebayors wages, final few months,he starts to perform, you don`t need me to fill in the rest.
Fanny adams
MAN ON ... Do you wear contact lenses with special effects?!
Geofspurs
Fanny ... One swallow does not make a summer, but, half a dozen goals might make a contract!
Geofspurs
After this season of great upheaval and turmoil it's quite something that Spurs are still in the mix. Add to that our recent good form and first choice players out, but returning from injury. Also, the probability that we still have yet to really play to our full potential, then things are looking much better than just 3 weeks ago….. Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
Geofspurs, No, but I am blinded by the overwhelmingly bright Lilywhite lights…..
MAN ON!
I think it's as much to do with managers as money with Ade. I'm not saying he yes isn't no is a mercenary, but another coincidence is that he plays well in his first season. He plays well for the man who bought him but a change of manager has affected him at both City and at Spurs. He's near world-class at the moment and if Sherwood can get that from him I'm happy. Only condition I want is not allowed to play with Benny. He's a bad influence.
jerkinmahjurgen
Geofspurs but it`s not a contract with us he`s playing for,he`s playing for one final big pay off.As soon as that Manchester City subsidy has gone he`s back with the rest of them. He`s sublime at milking the system,Adebayor is playing for Adebayor & he`s doing what he does best, but at no point is for Spurs cause.
We just got to hope his selfishness & greed gets us top 4,it did before.Last 18 months he earnt nearly £20 million doing nothing, but now he needs to play for his next big contract, but it won`t be a Spurs one.Adebayor doesn`t even like Spurs or England, just likes what he gets out of it.

Fanny ... Most of us become rather good at making the system (which ever one we are caught up in) work for us. And most of us become good at looking after ourselves, Unfortunately, there is little sustainable loyalty between clubs and players these days ... so integrity and work ethic seems to be lacking also. But, I take your point and I guess we can only hope that his new-found motivation continues to propel us forward for the rest of this season at least .... because his talent is undeniable.
Geofspurs

MAN ON!

MAN ON! cynical? or can just see Adebayor for what he is?
He`s done it everywhere he`s been. His first time would be cynical, but Adeabayor leaves a pattern wherever he goes,it`s his signature.
Like it`s Adams signature to be a thug on the football pitch.Patterns make reputations, not first timers.
Fanny adams
Fanny adams, I've said the same as you about Ade but, I've seen bad men turn good and vice versa. Ade ain't a bad man and I have no real idea about his personal values and goals. For now, as I am doing with Spurs, I'll judge him on a match to match basis and hope he's turned the corner because, he was bloody impressive against United.
MAN ON!
Goodnight Geofspurs…..
MAN ON!
spurfect I didnt think we should have sold Kaboul and shouted it all over this place, he clearly (to me) had everything to be a top player back then, shame about his injuries. I don't believe Kane has anywhere near that natural ability, I dont think he will ever make top 6 quality. To me simply he aint good enough and never will be....Chris, well I guess because he can hit row z to waste time he should stay, borderline world class, he is pants...
tophobunty1882
MAN ON! He has been great.
But if everybody in football was like Adebayor the game we love would not exist.
Fans tolerate Adebayor because he`s in the minority, almost alone in his disgraceful behaviour towards football & the contract system.
Imagine if Nurses, fireman,& police etc all acted like him?Economies would collapse.
I`m just glad he`s very alone in his atittude because there would be no Spurs if all players followed suit.
Others may not have been great in his absence, but at least they were there,i can respect that.
Fanny adams
Top, fair play mate, it's your opinion and as i say only time will tell who is right.
spurfect one
spurfect very fair and as always when i have a feeling someone isn't good enough who is with us I hope the other person is proven correct who feels they maybe....still have the same feeling about Siggy, though I think Siggy is better than Kane.
tophobunty1882
Fanny adams Well THAT is what I have heard on the grapevine. If Ade really is running true to form that would be the ONLY reason he will play well, so if and I mean IF TS has got some magic formula that NO other manager of his has got then that makes TS something really special and we should be very grateful he is here.
chrishove123
Noticed the London clubs have the most injury's, we 11, arse 8. palace 7 and spammers 7, is there sumthing in the water down south? Chelski have only 3 though, probably down to thier fitness trainer curing all of them in quick time, shes not just about looks then. As for Fulham you dont get injured if you dont care, dont tackle and just stroll around the pitch.

Volt if i was on a table i would want to be on the Chelsea injured table, surprised they don't have 28 on their list

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur, 5.15pm Saturday 4 January Venue Emirates Stadium Ref M Clattenburg Odds Arsenal 9-10 Tottenham 3-1 Draw 5-2 Delicacy underpins the derby's blood and thunder. Arsène Wenger wants to rest players yet he dare not overdo it. Momentum can be fragile and a Cup exit can hurt (remember Blackburn last season?). Tim Sherwood is similarly keen to build, having started well at Tottenham. This one means so much.
chrishove123
Lescott would be a great loan or even perm signing, especially as he can also play left back. With Kaboul looking very unlikely to ever return to full fitness this move should be a priority. Berba would only be worth bringing back on a short term loan, should have really signed him last season instead of letting him go to Fulham. Oh and Capoue is a much better player than Livermore and completely different to Hudd (still think Hudd could have been a great player for us in a 3 man midfield) and Harry Kane will never make the grade at Spurs. In fact he'll be very lucky to consistently play Prem football during his career.

Can it be true that AVB banished Adebayor because of his tam hat? If so, then AVB was an idiot. Sit the man for a match, perhaps, but to be so petulant as to sit him for months is idiotic. Can the story circulating about this be right?
Falstaff the Fool
Dawkins sold, Shaq loaned....waiting for the defoe news but there'll be no hurry on his part...looks like we're scraping together a couple of pennies for a player...or is it just to pay Lescott's wages?...on Kane I just can't make my mind up if he'll make it...he was one I thought would def come through then when he got his shot he froze...then looked good playing off the left...my gut tells me he's mid Pl quality but would like to see him get a bit more time...
shedboy2
so we're 3-1 against...is that because Clattenburg favours the home team??...he'll be itching to give them a penalty...
shedboy2
Fanny Adams, what you have to remember about Ade is that he is NOT a bad man and that he pushes the boundaries for the cash not because he is a greedy (**t but because of all the money he GIVES AWAY to charity in Africa, I think it amounts to about half his wages tr something like that, I do know it is one hell of a lot of cash he gives and the amount of good he has done because of it is incredible. Ade may be a mercenary, but he is a mercenary with a huge heart.
chrishove123
shedboy2 When I saw who the ref was I thought OH NO, he hates us, then, how many penalties is he going to give the scum tomorrow?
chrishove123
Coopsie, that statement from Sherwood..."..we will be fine once we have everyone fit..". Perhaps he knows the answer to 'how long is a piece of string' ?! EVERYONE fit?! Can anyone tell me when in our history we ever had EVERYONE fit?!

F-Adams, IMO, you are just a midgens bit too harsh on Ade!. IMO, based on his age, his recent issues, there is no way anyone would either pay top dollar for him, nor pay any where near £190K salary. He is just NOT worth it. IMO, even if Levy was to offer him a contract, it ill be at a LOT LOWER level, probably in-line with what Soldado may be on. Also, no point going over why he has or not performed or even played for us. Apart from the well documented issues of last season, IMO, this season his involvement with the squad has been ALL to do with AVB. After all, he did say he was ready and raring to score goals a while back. IMO, if he performs well 'til the end of the season and we reap rewards, then he SHOULD be offered a new contract (lower scale) with several built in clauses (appearances/performance based). Knowing Levy + no subsidy from City, our chairman will be the winner here. COYS!
Critical_Spur
So, there's a report going around today that AVB froze Adebayor out for months because Adebayor didn't take off his tam hat when told to do so by AVB. I don't know whether the story is true, but I haven't heard anyone yet say that the story is false. If it's true, then it surely diminishes AVB in my opinion. It makes him out to be a petulant and petty man, rigid and lacking in confidence that he can lead unless those around him supplicate themselves. This is the group leader who demands that he be treated as the slave master. Perhaps Adebayor should have removed his hat in respect to AVB's position, but why would AVB insist on such an act that would publicly and needlessly humiliate Adebayor? If this story is true, it alone tells me that AVB, no matter what he may know in terms of tactics or strategy, was not the man to lead our club. It also reminds me of a middle school teacher I had some 55 years ago; I still detest that man for his constant setting up situations in which the students had to humiliate themselves to demonstrate their "respect" for him. What kind of teacher is it that a student still detests after 55 years? Not a good one. What kind of football manager is it that needs to humiliate a player over such an insignificant thing as wearing a hat to a meeting? Not one who should remain employed. Does anyone know whether this story is false? If not, then AVB needs to find a different career path.
Falstaff the Fool
shed he was really pants on loan at Norwich, i do know their fans couldn't wait to get rid. He wont make it. the betting is probably because they have been better than us for 10 or more years and they are top and we are sixth. i don't expect us to win, but hope we will, which was exactly how I felt new years day....
tophobunty1882
Falstaff the Fool- the hat was not the reason...you may want to consult a therapist about your teacher though...;)
shedboy2
In case anyone hadn't realised I think it's live on ITV Saturday.
longtimespur
LOL. I don't think about that teacher all that often, but then something like the AVB-Ade hat story comes along and it triggers the memory. I can remember four or five teachers who had real and positive influences on me and two in particular who should not have been allowed anywhere near school children. Not sure which set had the greater influence.
Falstaff the Fool
I think I can remember something about a hat from before. Really quite ridiculous from both sides. Nursery stuff. You don't really want ANYONE at the club acting in this fashion. It cost Ade his position and then AVB his job, in a way. And you want both your manager and expensive experienced players acting with more maturity. Thousands of us all feeling the effects of an argument over a hat. unbelievable.
jerkinmahjurgen
It's about clout. AVB never had any. Fergie, Clough, Dalgleish, if they told you did. Even Tim laid the law down. He used two easy going lads as an example not to be late. A little tact. Got some clout. Knows how squads and groups work. Football's a bit army, a bit regimented so what AVB did wasn't SOO bad, but with no clout and on Ade ended up a suicidal move. AVB kinda thinks he's it. To be 'it' he needs a castle. Maybe Porto is his fortress? Tottenham wasn't. Football management isn't an area he's a legend in, it's his new career path. Ade however, should play for the club and manager and squad. He's difficult to manage, but if you believe in his and give him a platform he can be world-class. We're more beggars than choosers here. Sherwood knows not to pick a battle with some of the players. All clubs have them. But TS has a bit of Clout, being a rare League winning captain away form the regular league winning clubs and has some experience with squads which will help him identify what people need and how to treat certain types. Treating people 'fairly' doesn't always mean treating them the same. TS won't be intimidated by any players, either. He'll hold hiw own if he has to, but won't becon it to himself.
jerkinmahjurgen
Fanny ... I might be wrong, but I get the impression you are blaming Ade for not playing. My understanding is that he was willing to play, but was not played by AVB. Hardly his fault, and we could be in a much healthier league position if he had been playing.
Geofspurs
Hat's off to AVB.....He did get us playing well away from home.
Cider spurs
The other thing is, fair enough, the muppets suffered their synchronized 'wobble' but to carry it on forEVER .... bloody bobble hat... Sherwood is matching it though, Cider. Even at OT. And then some at home. COYS.

Adeabyor was played numerous times last season & Adebayor was dreadful, his laziness & attitude was disgraceful in almost every game.Except the Arsenal one, funny that, point to prove again & then he got himself sent off & let his team down due to his own personal mission.

How did Adebayor do last season in the African cup of nations? everywhere he goes.
Whoever the manager was that came in after AVB Adebayor would have played like this,it`s what he does,he`s a child who should take responsibility for the problems he causes. He knows when he`s being a (unt there`s nothing anyone can do it about it.
Get rid in the summer asap.
