Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur

One significant fact about the Manure result was that it was the first team that was above us in the Premiership that we have beaten this season. Scum, Citeh, Toons, Bin Dippers have all had their 3 points whilst Chavski, Toffees and Manure have had their point.

What was even more significant was that Sherwood buried the criticism that he does not have enough experience to outwit a more experienced Premier Club Manager.

In truth this FA Cup game has probably come around too fast for both teams who both have some injuries in key areas.

Olivier Giroud is a doubt after suffering from illness and an ankle injury. Nicklas Bendtner (ankle) is injured along with Kieran Gibbs (calf) and Aaron Ramsey (thigh) while playmaker Mesut Ozil must pass a late fitness test.

Meanwhile Andros Townsend, Lewis Holtby and Jermain Defoe could return from injury for Tottenham. But we still are without Verts, Paulinho, Sandro, Kaboul, Siggurdson and Lamela.

Adebayor is fit again after being taken off on a stretcher!!! It was a shame he went off for what looked like a rest as he would have been my man of the match but he was sat in a bath of ice and is now apparently good to go. Tim Sherwood is quoted as saying 'How important will Adebayor be tomorrow [Saturday]? It's huge. 'I think if Arsene Wenger saw him limping off at Old Trafford, I'm sure there were a lot of pleased Arsenal fans and management and players. 'But, unfortunately, he's going to be walking out against them on Saturday. 'It didn't look great did it when he came off on that stretcher but he is a warrior. There is no holding him back at the moment.'

The question is going to be how badly do both teams want this result? We played a great system on New Years` Day and each Player did his bit albeit Rose looked a yard off the pace. But the character we showed at Manure has to be what carries us into this Cup Tie. We have a full week break after this match when we take on Palace at the Lane so it maybe that Sherwood will go for the same team selection that he used for Manure but Sherwood has a habit of using a team that fits the challenge.

Eriksen seems to be playing well on the left much better than Siggs, the Soldado/Adebayor double act looks like it is now bedding in and although Soldado is still not finishing some pure gold chances as long as they are coming in and he is there to take them then he must be on the score sheet from open play soon.

Lennon is actually starting to show some belief that he can score goals and that means we have in reality 4 players looking to score goals. Eriksen showed some bravery with his headed goal at Manure and it`s that kind of commitment that won us that match. When we lost to the Scum at the beginning of the season they hunted us down in packs and they gave us no time on the ball this time they will have to take the game to us. Scum could have a striker problem if Ozil is passed unfit. They have only scored 16 Goals in 9 home games despite being top of the League.

In their last game against Cardiff Scum struggled to break down an organised Cardiff, they defended deep and broke out when they had the chance.

We know that Wilshire will be his normal dynamo so we need to make sure that we don`t give any of their midfield any time on the ball and we need to make sure that Walcott does not get any space which means doubling up on him. Szczesny is always an accident waiting to happen and Sagna is probably their weakest defender but there is no doubt that if we give Scum time on the ball they will move us around the pitch so we need to keep our shape and make them play through two banks of four to push them out wide and stop them playing through the middle.

This will be the biggest test for Sherwood to date and given the man`s attitude he will not want Spurs out of another cup competition so soon after the defeat at the hands of the spammers.

It feels like it`s going to be a great game and I only hope Adbayor is fit enough to go the distance. He is one of our form players but who Sherwood plays depends on who is fit and how he reads this game is anyone`s guess.

I think the pressure is on Scum which is probably why they have restricted our away ticket allocation. Scum are refusing to give the 15 per cent allocation normally entitled to us under FA Cup ticketing policy. Spurs hierarchy are livid with the Scum`s decision to grant us just 5,186 tickets - which equates to just 8.64 per cent of the stadium capacity at the Emirates.

Doesn`t matter we`ll still make more noise than their pathetic supporters even if they do turn on their PA system to play their crowd noise backing track!

COYS!

I fear a penalty shoot out.
Critical_Spur
Could be that Critical, but I'd favour us in that after the EL one. COYS

We will show them spurs are back in business. . another away win... coys
Block D Spurs
I'd love us to win by the odd goal down to a keeper error. Pure justice against that mouthy Szczesny. Shut him up for a while!! BTW I'd hate to have to spell his name as any test of my drunken state. lol
longtimespur
Critical, Hopefully it is a penalty shoot out just for the fact that we can feck them over like they did to us with the ticket allocation when we take them back at the lane. I expect Arsenal to start the stronger and whether we can ride the early storm will be key. The one thing that scares me is Dawson and his lack of pace against the likes of Walcott and Podolski.
spurfect one
It's unfortunate that we were drawn against Arsenal in this round. Had it been any other team, I'd have settled for using this cup as a gelling/training exercise. However, the rivalry has made it in to a potentially 'high octane' affair. I am sure Arsenal would've seen this comp as secondary, while they focus on PL and CL. Equally Spurs, with the season long issues, would prefer to focus on top-4 and EL. Had we a tiny injury list, I would've loved us to try and win this comp. However, in our current state, I'd rather give it a miss. Still be wanting a win, but NOT at the expense of more injuries. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Maybe if we can take clattenburg out early on we can get a sub ref in and win without them having to resort to cheating. Daws could just smash a ball into his face as hard as he can and make it look accidental. LOL I also hope Southampton get their just reward in their perusal of him as regards his remark to Lallana. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/03/southampton-mark-clattenburg-referee-adam-lallana-complaint-thrown-out
chrishove123
Bloody spell check, NOT perusal, should be pursuit. Although they probably are perusing him as well. HA HA
chrishove123
4 0 to the spurs, remeber this.
Horny Helen
Can i go off topic please, its something thats been troubling me since Tim took over and played the 442 system, and dont get me wrong im enjoying the ride so far but, if we stick with the system and Tim stays for next year wont we have to get rid of alot of midfield players, i count at least 9 and plus 2 to come back from loan not counting wingers who are all fighting for 2 places, you can start now to shout me down, cheers

Looking forward to the game Spuddies! Fancy a win for us but could be a mental game where logic goes out the window!

Half of the midfield is injured spurs50yrs! Oh, and don't worry, Levy will cash-in by selling whichever makes his the most profit!
Critical_Spur
would start same side as started against united considering all the injuries, with a full squad i would fancy us even if arsenal had a full squad because ours is better
tophobunty1882
Topho, with an already depleted defence, would you risk the same back 4? Personally, despite the pride involved, I'd give Fredricks and Fryers a go. I am sure there is no way Wenger will play a full strength side......being top of the league, he'd be taking even a bigger gamble IMO.
Critical_Spur
Critical_Spur I saw a report earlier today that implied he IS going to field a full strength team against us. How true that is I don't know. But hey who cares we'll beat them biased cheating ref or not.
chrishove123
Topho that looks like a very workmanlike team. Get a lead of 2 goals and bring Capoue on at 60 minutes to lock it down. I hope Dembele is on song tomorrow as I wasn't impressed with him in the ManU game.
jvd
Come On You SPURS & Win Win Win.
Madaboutspurs
i think Arsenal will play a very strong side Critical... JVD Capoue starts for me as he did at United. Chadlino way a starter for me... I agree ref Dembele against United JVD didnt really think he was that good, not sure 442 suits him. i still think he is a great number 10 waiting to happen.
tophobunty1882
mind you 442 away to arsenal always feels a bit suicidal
tophobunty1882
I don't care If Arsenal fans 'fancy a win' they've been playing well, even over performing this season. I like the cut of Sherwood's jib. He will go there and throw everything at Arsenal, he has the balls to do that. Yes some people will say we should respect them, FairPlay. But that will not win you games. Goals will.... Get them on the back foot from the off and keep the emirates quiet.... Oh, wait.... It always is anyway. Coys

Topho, I liked your slip of the keyboard, making Chadli sound like a Brazilian!... Chadlino !!!!
Critical_Spur
I've gotta call BS on the Szczesny comment. We have only conceded 18 goals, 6 of those were in the one off against City. Also, Arsenal have NEVER lost a game in 2 YEARS where Per+Kosc have played the full 90 minutes. On goals, Theo already has 5 in 5. Frankly it shows how pathetic Spurs are that you think Ozil's absence will be a factor. So we scored our goals super-late last game? Didn't we play without Mesut? Who cares! What matters is the RESULT. This Arsenal team plays till the last second of any match. In seasons gone-by we would have drawn those games or maybe even lost. Also, before you celebrate a fresh start, let me remind you that 4 games do not constitute a large enough data pool to allow accurate extrapolation.
Gunnerfan1987
danny rose talks about ade impact http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/emmanuel-adebayor-has-sparked-roberto-soldado-into-life-says-tottenham-teammate-danny-rose-9034710.html
logos8
dany rose: "No disrespect to Andre but playing one up front has been a bit frustrating and hard for Soldado at times,"
logos8
We've a week to recover and it's the ars n'all so it's strongest team possible for me. Win it.
jerkinmahjurgen
also from dany rose about adebayor and avb "Obviously there was a bit of a disagreement between him and Andre but it is finished now and we are all grateful he is back in the team."
logos8
Gunnerfan87, so let me ask you a question, would you want Ozil in your team or out?
spurfect one
Unchanged side if possible. Massive game. Massive occasion. Bragging rights. I'd be very disappointed to go out of another cup so early. We should've been in the semi's really, as it is. It won't go to penalties tomorrow, will it? Be a replay if draw, no?
jerkinmahjurgen
Jerk, yes it will be a replay if it's a draw mate.
spurfect one
Of course I want Ozil, the best #10 in the world. That's not the point. The point is we manage without him. We've got too much in midfield.
Gunnerfan1987
Thought so. Cheers. Didn't know if I'd missed a rule change. I think we can win, of course but it's a big ask. We could certainly get them back to the Lane. I'm hoping Sherwoods' cup attitude is better than Redknapps.
jerkinmahjurgen
We got better midfielders out on loan.
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, ONE week to recover?.... Our guys always take between 2 weeks and 2 months to recover. Sorry, but I am dreading this game from injuries point of view. Ade is already suffering from cramps. The team is ticking nicely at the moment because of him. Hope my concerns are OTT and we come through this match unscathed....with a win!. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Just to add, THREE of our fit players are vulnerable to injury, namely, Rose, Dembele and Ade. There are NO like-4-like replacements in our squad for these guys. Three KEY areas.
Critical_Spur
So gunnerfan1987, you really are contradicting yourself. You say Ozil is the best NO 10 in the world yet you think spurs fans are pathetic thinking his absence will be a factor. Surely any team in the world would miss the best NO 10 in the world right? Thus making it a factor, or are u just an ignorant imbecile on here trying to wind people up?
spurfect one
Thing is you can't play on fear. Can't run a football team on it. Can't dictate injuries or form. I know I've mentioned the 'buzz' a few times, but footballs' based around momentum. You can 'hold' the buzz then draft it back in. It's Ars. I'm no lover of prioritizing as a rule. You play to win your games. True if you've had good cup runs and are competing in the league and it starts building up, prioritize if you need. But a week to rest? Players on a buzz? We've got Verts and hopefully Kaboul on way back. The squad is there to use. I would be going there to win this game. We'll need the best 11 available. Momentum. We knock 'em off their stride and hopefully we'll start some, lol. Week to recover then who is it, Palace?? Don't stress. Dare.
jerkinmahjurgen
can't* hold the buzz
jerkinmahjurgen
That should be "contradicting….."
Gunnerfan1987
NO, I'm not contradiction myself. Let me draw an analogy. Without a doubt ManCity have got the best attack force in the league. Any team would love Aguero in their team, but his absence hasn't hurt them in destroying teams at home. Same with us, but in midfield. We've got the best midfield, and as you saw last game, Ozil's absence doesn't undermine our game.
Gunnerfan1987
"Topho, I liked your slip of the keyboard, making Chadli sound like a Brazilian!... Chadlino !!!!," Critical_Spur.

We'd have to make that Chadlinho. Little Chad.

Falstaff the Fool
Comment to Gunnerfan1987: Yawn.
Falstaff the Fool
JVD,Probably not obvious on telly but at OT it was obvious who kept Wayne Rooney quiet - Dembele followed him everywhere - a surprise for me but Dembele took on a different role brilliantly. Horses for courses ?
Highgatespur
5,186 reasons why we have to play a full strength team, would have been more but someone bottled on the allocation amount fearing it might get too noisy for the locals. Also it's our closest Derby and I have to go back to work Monday so no time for giving kids a go.
T.H.F.Chris
I'm not too concerned with arseinholes midfield. Somehow, adebayor's re-surgence has made our midfield come alive, even though sandro and paulinho are injured. Capoue, dembele, lennon and ericksen will be formidable if they are the starting 4. And we have a very impressive bentalib to come in if needed. Also chadlinho has some form. As already mentioned our front two are really flying and I think kane will see some game time also and he has been doing well when called on. Is lamela injured? If not then surely he should see some game time here? My problem is with our defence where we are paper thin at CB, maybe veljkovic will see some game time if it goes to extra time and we have some cover at fullback where naughton, fredericks and fryers are options. Feeling more confident about this tie now than maybe when the draw was made and think we will be in the mix and up for this one. Absolutely certain that Adeboyor will be fired up and will be the motivator-in-chief in the dressing room. 1-3 to spurs (ade, sol and eriksen to score).
neymar
Difficult team selection choices for this one. Heavy wet / windy conditions. The one player I wouldn't want missing from the next 2 prem' games is Dawson. I'd be playing Capoue alongside Chiriches for this one. With Bentaleb, Dembele, Eriksen and Lennon in midfield. Subs bench to include, Fryers, Dawson, Townsend, Chadli, Defoe, Kane.
82spursdebut
Gunnerfan1987. Very poor player position and team analogy. Man City have a team of players of Ozils quality. They are have strength in depth way superior to Arsenal. Given your history of losing your top players to the Manchester Clubs I wouldn't be getting too excited. It'll only be a matter of time before he's wearing the blue of Man C or Chelsea.
strawboy
The only 2 things certain is that both clubs will be up for this game and both will field strongest side available. I'm predicting a score draw and a replay. Not what either of us need. A welcome distraction from the league. It will also give a few of our injured players an extra week to recover for the bread n butter game v CPalace.
strawboy
Jack Wilshere running around arms flailing everywhere, can't stick the moody little beggar. Always b/oody moaning, and the faces he pulls when doing it. Potential to become a Gurning World Champion. Impressive for one so young. Do us a favour Capoue if you play.....Go and introduce yourself to slapped arse face. Fairly of course, we are Spurs, we do not cheat. Bribe anyone?, lovely that's the Champ's league qualification sorted. Right, what's the weather forecast for Woolwich this afternoon?.

Better midfield, my arse. Arsenal have had the luxury of fielding their preferred Midfield numerous times this season. That is the difference. Highly unlikely Arsenal fans can fathom this however, they're too busy celebrating the lack of tickets allocated to Spurs. How embarrassing, but not suprising. Spurs fans far too vocal for the poor little Woolwich lambs.Surrounding neighbours would not want their Saturday night showing of Prancing on Ice interuppted by the cheers of the 4th Spurs goal hitting "our Chesney's" net.

Ozil "best #10 in the World"... "we manage without him".."we've got too much in Midfield". Why the feck buy him then Rodney Plonker. I thought the money would be more wisely spent paying the removal men to move you back to your spiritual home of Woolwich. Emirates stadium. LOL!!, you know the one, that's right that stadium on Emirates road.

Should be a good game despite both teams suffering injuries. Spurs will try to get the ball out wide and then feed Adebayor who will undoubtedly actually put effort into this game. Up front we'll see Podolski who I think can still cause problems even if he didn't prove that against Cardiff. Theo will be the one to watch, letting him run at Dawson would be suicidal but can Spurs afford men to double mark him. I think Pail will be fit to start. Can wait for the game going to be in attendence and you lot seem to be getting very vexed about the allocation demonstration. The fact is that 9000 of your gimps walking home with faces like slap arses that late at night is asking for trouble, there was recent trouble when Cheslea brought some Asbo window lickers to the ground recently but Tottenham have spun it as 'they dont want us to be noisy!'. Just watch the North bank before kick off, you'll be in for a surprise. But please keep your voices down when you do, remember its a library right?
Nwankwo25
MANON!...I can take losses along with the wins. Arsenal are just so smug. Chesney is always spouting something Spurs related. honestly the bloke should get himself one of them call centre jobs, he can't shut up. Verbal diarrhea. I have no problem with local rivalry, but there IMO is a correct and professional manner to adhere too. Alot of Arsenal's traits do not paint them in a good light. Wenger never sees anything, always someone else's fault, never his team. Walcott plays well, but continually gives it "Large", feck off and tidy your bedroom youth. Wilshere as already stated, alright you can play a little, but what's with the tantrums. Mummy stopped your pocket money?, are you grounded?, get a glass of milk and a cookie and shut the feck up. In fact why don't you all just fly Emirates and send us a postcard. 19 would work just fine for me.

Gooners have nothing to lose in this game, but if we win then Tim Sherwood's position gets even stronger and I can imagine him walking into Levy on Monday and demanding his choosen transfer targets! It'll be close for sixty to seventy minutes but I am worried about a late arsenal onslaught. We better have the game put away by then! 2-0 the most dangerous lead in football!

Funniest thing i've seen for a while. What a plank!!..check out his picture. Creepy. Now that exactly sums up Arsenal. Ego trip, the lot of em'. http://ladyarse.co.uk/2014/01/giroud-confirms-he-will-miss-game-against-spurs/

Although Dembele has done absolutely nothing wrong and probably doesn't even need the rest, I'd say Have Erikson to play alongside Capoui in Midfield and then have Chadli on the left. Fryers/Rose are going to need support tonight.

I write this as I wait to be picked up to travel to a place on the "dark side" called the "library", there are five of us from Oxford going on this adventure. We have each got our ticket which cost £63.50 to watch Spurs turn over the Woolage nomads. Up the Spurs.

Yet another post with racial overtones & connotations? It'll never stop, will it!!

VERY excited about tonight's game, yet VERY apprehensive, too. Mr Sherwood's last cup match didn't go too well for us, but that was against the Mighty Irons, so maybe this evening's opponents will be a bit easier? After-all, they're hardly flying in the league, unlike those Mighty Irons.

It's Saturday, or as I prefer it to be known, Sarcyday. COYS

If Townsend is indeed ready for a return, i'd like to see him Left with Lennon Right. Thing is Eriksen has been great drifting in from the Left and popping up everywhere. Hard call to consider dropping Dembele to squeeze him into CM. Think we'll need a tackler type more than a creative considering Arsenals attacking threat. Dembele just shades it, but Townsend has to produce the goods from the Left.

Cider - Just look out for Wilshere, there's bound to be at least 1 moment where he trips over that fecking tongue of his!!

It was Training Day

Little Jack was running around the gaff like an excited puppy chasing a ball with his tail wagging.

Jack: Woof woof grrrr woof woof!

Tongue: Jack, listen to me I need a favour.

Jack: Woof grrr bark woof!

Tongue: No I am your tongue not your 'arris

Jack: Woof!

Tongue: Never mind that! Look just open your mouth and run around with me hanging out so you look like you are catching flies or something

Jack: Woof woof!

Meanwhile in an epic battle with Sauron the Zip Arsene had missed most of the training and finally gave up on his beloved sleeping bag. He checked the time and realised Training was over and everyone had left apart from poor old little Jack.

Little Jack was running around with his mouth open and his tongue out as usual pouncing on the ball still as excited as ever. Arsene checked his watch....

Arsene: Here Jack! Here boy! grrr stupid mutt.

Arsene placed Little Jacks special water bowl on the ground as he would be thirsty after a busy days training.......

The End

Seriously, why does he do it? Here's some examples of what I'm on about..

Anyone seen the reports that Sherwood wants to bring in Redknapp junior as a coach? Makes me shudder :-(

tophobunty1882
coop- re redknapp junior....I posted after a x-mas event that there was a whisper he wanted him...at the time there would have been a revolt but winning a few games may have turned things in Tim's favour...Levy was isolated but unaware of his own isolation...all we can do is keep winning, a run of bad results could see us implode...

"Well Jack Junior", say's the teacher. "What does your Daddy do for a job?"……….. He's a drug-dealing alcoholic that pimps whores for a living, Miss."…….. The teacher is shocked and takes little Jack to one side and asks, "Is that really true about Daddy, Junior?"……. "No miss, but I was too embarrassed to say he plays for Arsenal".

Let's hope Clattenburg doesn't miss any dreadful challenges like the shocker Cazorla put on capoue.....funny how if that had been shawcross on an arsenal player they would have instigated a witch hunt...Arsenal players get away with murder!
shedboy2
We've been winning and scoring goals...why, oh why, would anyone want to drop Dembele to squeeze Townsend back into the team? Eriksen is supposed to come in off the left....townsend staying left Lennon staying right with two up top is a classic over-run 442 formation....
shedboy2
I usually can't watch these games for the fear of the result. This time though I am not too bothered as if we go through great but would benefit our league chances, rest of players with EL still to come if we went out. Not wanting to lose to Arsenal though. Keep it fresh Tim and rotate those who need a game rather than flogging the same ones. No more injuries today please.
CoysRus
Agreed, Andros is not needed today…..
MAN ON!
You and Chelsea are similar because you're going to turn up not to lose. It'll be tight but aren't they all, much will depend on the defences both will play there strongest teams. Thanks for conversing with me without insults you guys are really good at that.

CoysRus- can't agree...normally i would but against Arsenal we have to win...doesn't matter if it were a 5 a side on the beach...we have to win!....see the arse have put up a banner quoting tim's arsenal credentials...

shedboy - Thanks for the post, re Redknapp junior. I don't see the point, but if Sherwood feels he'd help somehow, I/We can only support the decision & hope it works out for the best. Hopefully he's far too comfortable in his cushy Sky Sports studio, to consider stepping into THFC. Also, he's often publicly slagged off Levy, so I don't think Danny boy would be too happy to employ him?

Good to hear hoping for a really open game but I think it will be cagey (cliche) rumour has it Fabianski to start for us. Not the best choice imo, but he is a decent keeper when it comes down to it. Will shall see!

shedboy - "We've been winning and scoring goals...why, oh why, would anyone want to drop Dembele to squeeze Townsend back into the team?"......

I thought all the 'big clubs' mainly used their second rate players in the cup competitions? ;-)
coopsieyid
Redknapp Jnr is clearly being brought in to train our 25 injured players, plenty of experience.
T.H.F.Chris
Geofspurs, You've got that wrong. It's Mido! Easy mistake….
MAN ON!
coops- again I would normally agree...but this is Arsenal...they must be beaten at all costs!....grrrr....;)

MAN ON ... It's definitely in black and white, because I typed it on the computer and printed it out ... just need Spurs and Real to follow it up now. Oh, I remember Mido ... vaguely
Geofspurs
I thought I'd forgotten him...
MAN ON!
shed....my post does not state that we should drop Dembele does it?. I said that i'd like to see townsend on the Left, Eriksen was/is playing well, so could we accomodate him in Cm if Townsend's pace was to be utilised. On reflection i came to the conclusion that Dembele would be a better fit alongside Capoue for his strength, which maybe required given Arsenals attacking threat. Heck we could even tell Townsend to come in from the Left. Do you honestly think he'll need to be told twice, the guy loves getting into central positions. My suggestion was purely about pacy counter attack football, your response appears more about the fact you don't rate Townsend. Arsenal or not, i don't want our players run into the ground.
Cider spurs
Not sure if it's ok to mention in here, off topic and all that. Has anyone heard of any actual ITK on Schar? (FC Basel)

He could be a bloody good buy. Here's the link to an article just posted:

http://www.givemesport.com/415591-chelsea-rival-arsenal-tottenham-for-swiss-star?tg=/football

Supposedly The Evening Standard linked us to him... Hope so, we really need a decent, young imposing CB, IF Kaboul is as fecked as many of us are now believing.

Cider - I'm feeling your pain, mate. My missus HATES it when I go shopping with her, because I am not able to bite my tongue (unlike Jack Wilshere, lol). If some selfish cow with a trolley decides she wants to barge past me with her trolley, I tend to tell her what I think of her conduct. It's the same with those planks who decide to leave their trollies in the middle of the aisle whilst they spend 30 minutes reading the fecking labels on whatever it is they may buy. Shopping really doesn't bring out my good side lol
coopsieyid
Geof - I'll instantly get onto looking into that Modric rumour for you, mate :-)

Redknapp jnr. Who next?, Freddie Flintoff, Jimmy Carr. Mind you the club car park would be a laugh. Bentley's, Mercs, Ferrari's, Range Rovers. here comes little Jimmy Redknapp on that b/oody White horse. you know the one, that's right the one that keeps getting to go on holiday with him and his missus. last seen on some Sun kissed beach. Darren is excited, he reckons the Horse sheit will work wonders for the pitch. Even mentioned the LB....Well, we all know Horse sheit is good for the Rose's.

I think everyone is a bit over the top with this Arsenal thing. They should be given the respect they deserve ... it's not their fault that they don't deserve any!
Geofspurs
Geof - Where did you see/hear the story, mate?
coopsieyid
Coopsie ... cheers, mate, I appreciate that. I'll sleep easier tonight knowing you're following it up. :-)
Geofspurs
Highgatespur that piece of info re Dembele was very informative. I did not realise he was man marking Rooney. Not really noticeable on TV because the view is constantly following the ball. If that is the case then, well done Dembele. I did see him make a couple of tackles on Rooney which caused Rooney a great deal of frustration but then so did a couple of others, noticeably Ade! If that is truly the case then TS has gone up even more in my estimation as it shows he knows where the danger is on the opposition.
jvd
shedboy - Agree 100%, this is a game we daren't lose. So that probably means we will lol

GOT TO GO OFF TOPIC.. Seems we may have finally got that Halilovic kid...

http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=133259

EXCLUSIVE TMW - Farewell to Arsenal: Halilovic about to join Tottenham

20.12.2013 18.45 by Claudio Colla read 170

As come to know by TMW at WyScout Forum, Dinamo Zagreb and Croatian NT 1996-born offensive midfielder Alen Halilovic (17) is about to join Tottenham, finally, after a long negotiation. The player was tracked by Arsenal as well, and several European clubs, among which Real Madrid, Inter and Bayern Munich, happened to survey him..

Am seeking more info, may be time to write a new gossip article soon.
coopsieyid
Hmm, http://www.vecernji.hr/nogomet/halilovic-vec-u-sijecnju-u-dortmund-912216

Latest talk is that Alen Halilovic is closest to a move to Borussia Dortmund. His father apparently met these last few days with Klopp and Zorc (Dortmund's sporting director). But it has previously been reported that they have had discussion in the past as well.

However, they say Arsenal have entered the race and that Tottenham is still in the running.

The belief (of the author of the article) is that Halilovic will almost certainly leave Dinamo during this winter transfer period. His father has hired lawyer Jean-Louise Dupont, who was involved with the Bosman case/ruling, as a means of protecting their rights (as Halilovic's contract runs out in the summer).

They go on to say that Dinamo would sell Halilovic now and immediately promote Robert Muric (a player I have mentioned in the general football forum) to the first team. However, Muric has refused to sign a professional contract with the club and the belief is that he is very close to signing with a foreign club (believed to be Manchester United).

It's all mainly speculation. I think its a safe bet that if it's between BVB, Arsenal and us, we won't be seeing Allen any time soon in a Spurs shirt. Such a pity, I was really hoping he would be coming to us. No doubt in a year or two we will be moaning about loosing out on him.
coopsieyid
Jamie, Tim and Louise have already had at least one failed business venture. May be, with luck and Harry on board, they'll buy out Lewis and co and be a raving success. TJHFC? Louise can bake the pies, pull the pints and release a chart topping FA Cup song in the style of Chas'n'Dave….
MAN ON!
Coopsie ... My thinking is; start the rumour, the rumour gets exposure, exposure leads to credibility, credibility leads to belief, belief makes it happen ... then I get my favourite player back! Makes sense to me. lol
Geofspurs
And this one says Bayern Munich have gazumped us -

http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/s...alilovic-but-do-they-need-another-midfielder/

GEOF - I sugget you take a look at the above link, then click YouTube the clip of Halilovic. You'll notice an UNBELIEVABLE LIKENESS to your favourite little ex Yiddo Croatian player. The way he receives the ball, the way he runs, the way he drops a shoulder etc etc etc ;-)
coopsieyid
BUT Dinamo's president has said they are in talks with Madrid over Halilovic. The benefit is that in Spain, he can play for Real Madrid Castilla in the 2nd division so he gets lots of game experience.

Can Madrid stop Ass raping us please?
coopsieyid
Before long we'll be seeing not one, but two Modric replacements… Eriksen, sen, sen and Tom Carroll……….
MAN ON!
Oh, and don't forget Jake Livermore…...

This from ryantegan

"Just been told that we may bid for Benteke. Defoe could then be loaned to Villa via the MLS"...

Messy or what?
coopsieyid
LOVE THIS, as if we were still unsure as to whether Defoe will be gone or not......

Sherwood (Defoe): "Everyone wants best players but Jermain has to do whats best for him and Tottenham have to do whats best for Tottenham."
coopsieyid
Messy?, It could be for topho if we get Benteke.
Cider spurs
I think Benteke would be excellent business. We know that we can't always rely on Ade, he would be the perfect addition to the team IMO.
Cider spurs
Good old FA Cup. Blackburn 1-1 Man City……..
MAN ON!
Bentek has gone $hit now.The Benteke bubble has burst & no point signing him,not for the money Villa want anyway.
Anything more than £12 million for Benteke is madness. He`s scoring one in three this season which is pretty average.
Fanny adams
Dependant on the fee, Halilovic would be great for the future, but as already stated we have young Tom who's progressing well. How far back can Eriksen play?. For the right price Halilovic, yes. But let's remember we might just have our own Modric type player to come back in the shape of young Tom. He does keep the ball moving, and everytime i've seen him play this season i have been fairly impressed. Pritchard at Swindon is doing well also. On a closing note Halilovic has stated that he loves the English game, Madrid it is then. Especially once Bale's Best friend for life Modric tells him about the chicken badge and all that goes with it. I think the offer we put in during the last window was a good offer. Here's a good link explaining what has happened since our initial offer and why we bid so much.http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/caution-greed-or-job-arsenal-what-stopped-halilovics-move-spurs
Cider spurs
what? modric back? this has to be a joke right? I would love him to come but I doubt I'll see it happen soon. Maybe when he's 30.

And what's this about redknapp junior? Doesn't sound like a great idea I would take if that would mean I won't be seeing him anymore on tv.

Wilshere. I am 100% sure that I dislike him more than I dislike Jon Terry... and that should tell you something.

Arsenal match. I would love a replay at the lane.

The bad news is there`s no good news.

that's not so bad. Could have been worse.

we dont need Benteke we got Kane, would make one twart happy
tophobunty1882
fanny we could swap benteke for lennon
tophobunty1882
good news AVB sacked
tophobunty1882
Coopsie ... great link for Halilovic. Thanks for that, he looks like my kind of player! :-)
Geofspurs
logos8 Good news is there`s no bad news.

tophobunty1882 I`d do that swap Lennon for Benteke.Lennon has been better last 2 games so i hope he keeps going, does the business today then could make a fan of me yet.Walcott V Lennon today, battle of the little speedy attackers.
Cheriches was my man of the match though, really well played against manchester United.
3 most improved players under Sherwood is Adebayor,Lennon & Cheriches, must be doing something right or maybe just new manager syndrome going through the honeymoon phase.
Results business & Tim should be judged on just that,so far so good he`s doing better than i expected, faitrplay, keep it going for today, one game at a time.
Fanny adams
geof this Haliberry fiasco is running the brazilian bloke fiasco a close second i think this is the 900th attempt to have signed him according to various european sources including his Dad who wanted us to buy the family a house and school, not bad considering he is only 11 and 4ft 6...mind you he does look a very good prospect
tophobunty1882
i knew you would fanny, most others wouldnt because lennon is so often if not our best one of our best players game in game out and we are a better team with him in it.....init. We have beeen through this one 674 times though BIGC...how are you any way?

@E_Adebayor18 m - Hey guys, FA Cup is back, big game today. Focusing on the game now. #COYS
coopsieyid
Cider spurs- I wasn't aiming that comment at you I read a few comments condensed and paraphrased...as for Townsend I don't rate him more than an average player...he's had lot's of loans for a reason....again people will right off Kane or Lamela etc who haven't had a run in the side but still want AT who had an extended run and showed why he isn't a top4 player...he just doesn't have the football brain....
shedboy2
tophobunty1882 All good pal.
We`ll see how Adebayor, lennon & co do today because consistency is the key, consistency has always been Spurs achilles heal.
Fanny adams
churchy did win the MOM but I thought he was responsible for the Man U goal so found it hard to agree with that MOM. Do really like him as a player though and likely to be a better defender over time
tophobunty1882
Geof - Sorry, mate. i decided to go and submit an article about these rumours. I see you were posting more out of hope, re Modric. i'll continue to pray for his return, just for you, and I bloody hate religion.
coopsieyid
Shedboy, I would bet you 5k now that Townsends value will be higher than Kane between now and 6 years down the road. Take the bet on mate? Subject to no injuries impacting either, for example if townsend lost both legs, an arm and 1.5 eyes in a quadbike accident on blackpool hight street his value could then be equal to Kane, that would not count.
tophobunty1882
tophobunty1882 TBH though,i was in complete shock at how poor manchester united were going forward, they were impotent.Should have had a penalty though, madness by Lloris.I`d put £100 on Lloris to get red carded this season,he`s going to get it badly wrong soon, like he did with Young.
True test is today of our defence because Arsenal are only behind City & Suarez when it comes to going forward, give them space & make errors they will destroy us.
Fanny adams
shed...All good mate. Eriksen has done exactly what has been asked of him in this 4-4-2 set up. Lamela needs gametime, there are articles out there suggesting he's not injured and his brother who has been pretty reliable with info has tweeted as much by all accounts. I don't know, i care not for twits.
Cider spurs
fanny i expect us to lose today, historical presidence and all that stuff, so anything better than that is a big smile. the two sides are pretty even when you take into account we have more injuries though.
tophobunty1882
tops- yep bet 5k on a forum with guy you don't know...not for me...I do think in 6 years time most Spurs fans will be hard pressed to remember either...Kane does deserve at least the same chance as Townsend and rose to show how average he can be don't you think?
shedboy2
Lily Rose @lillywhiterose28 s - Tony Parks confirms it is the same team as United apart from Bentaleb starting instead of Capoue, #THFC
coopsieyid
Fanny, i thought United were average for them last season, they got away with murder with chelsea and man city imploding with internal problems and arsenal being poor for so long early on and us having a half wit as a manager, Baled out week in week out by Bale. Fergie had an ageing side which in particular in midfield he really hasn't done anything about, it's been on the slide for 4-5 years, the result is largely what you see now, the worst united side for more than 12 or so years, minus Fergie. Yes Lloris will be closely watched now after getting away with what is one of the most incredible penalty misses by a ref I have ever seen. Thanks to Fergie for selling Web to us before he retired. He also got away with handling outside the box....
tophobunty1882
Given that we played a lightweight midfield against Southampton, it doesn't suprise me we're picking smaller midfielders to deal with Arsenal.
coopsieyid
topho ... I'd love to see Halle Berry in a Spurs shirt ... or any shirt, come to that! lol
Geofspurs
Got to be concerned about Walcott playing against Eriksen and Rose? Also, according to Sky Sports, Dawson is supposed to be injured, so how the feck is it the same team as against United, apart from Bentaleb starting, IF Sky Sports are correct? Surely they're not wrong, lol.
coopsieyid
Red doesn't suit her……
MAN ON!
shed Townsend will be a top player for many years to come. I think he might go to the world cup for instance, you can think what you want about Kane and all players should be given the chance just that is obvious he wont make it to some........corrrrr if thats correct bentelab for capoue is a huge risk and pressure on the lad, hope he steps up, he looks good but its a big call.
tophobunty1882
Geofspurs- i prefer her out of the shirt...but I'd definitely swap shirts!..;)
shedboy2
ps I would still sign Ben Arfa.
tophobunty1882
Ben Afflecks better…...
MAN ON!
tops- disagree I think AT lacks the 'balling' ability...we'll see...Agree on Bentelab for Capoue....Sherwood looks as though he wants to bring on the youth (too quickly)....that normally ends up with losing the experience before losing the plot...ask Villa....
shedboy2
Walcott will be making runs behind the backline or running at pace at the backline. The source needs to be stopped, whether Wilshere or Ozil or whomever. Stop Walcott and IMO we've nullified their biggest threat. Walker needs to be on his game as does Daws. Podolski loves drifting in from the Left, and has a hammer of a left foot. As for their defence, we're not going to get much change out of Mertesacker aerially. Lots of quick balls along the deck, with numbers in the box. Let's get them facing their own goal. Afterall it is a joy to witness the ball going into the gooners net past "our chesney". I'd hate for them to miss out on that.
Cider spurs
shedboy - Save it, mate, re Townsend & Kane. At 20, Townsend was at Milton Keynes, Kane is at THFC. I'm sure that's irrelevant, though.
coopsieyid
coops....you covered the Right side as i was writing about their Left.
Cider spurs
Bentelab starts
Kong
Although the team is not yet confirmed, i may be having my first gripe at Mr Sherwood. We are starting Nabil Bentaleb, a player who has just turned 19, over a French international who was one of the best players in the French league least season in the North London Derby.

That is (could be) beyond ridiculous.
coopsieyid
yes she does have decent enough assets, she would keep walcott busy this afternoon. You fancu Ben Affleck ManOn?.....coppsie which one of the two plays for England? sure that irrelevant....what a twart...lets log that on all our other disagreements, how you doing so far cock? ho ho ho and a bottle of cut and paste fluid... hows you and yours?

REALLY Hoping Bentaleb performs today, we've only seen him properly in one game where we were chasing the game against a tiring, depleted Southampton side.

I don't think he looked up to the task particularly vs United but that was perhaps because we were very much under the cosh.
coopsieyid
Our subs - Friedel, Fredericks, Fryers, Capoue, Chadli, Kane, Obika.
coopsieyid
Walcott central v Dawson...eeee ouch
tophobunty1882
That Arseanal line-up makes it appear as though Walcott will be playing through the middle? If that's the case, expect lots of balls over the top, but luckily we have Dawson's pace to nullify that threat.
coopsieyid
tophobunty1882, No, but I'm sure he'd fancy me…….
MAN ON!
Cider - We truly do have a knack for thinking/writing the same thing, it's genuinely bloody concerning lol
coopsieyid
Punishment comes after the crime.

Let`s see what benteleb is made of.And our defence, without taking anything away from Tim Sherwood,he hasn`t had a real challenge yet, even the mighty mancs were shockingly poor,& i agree with Tophobunty.

This is a game of true test for how we are as a group. No excuses,no complaints, the big ones show you who you are.
Fanny adams
No worries…… Easy!
MAN ON!
Well, Bentelab could be a masterstroke, or a right cock up. Sometimes Youthfulness allows for a lack of fear. Whether this will allow for mistakes who knows. I don't want too many radical Timmy moments in an attempt to look like the "out there" manager. Bentelab seems a strange call.
Cider spurs
I think this hosw us Sherwood doesn't rate Capoue as much as some of us do.
WorldPeace
The alarming thing is Arsenal have more experienced game changers on the bench then us.
spurfect one
Walcott V lennon,c`mon lennon be the better attacking player.
Fanny adams
That thick **** seems to believe that Townsend was playing for England at 20 years of age, lol. He's talking about England but neglecting to point out that Kane has had MANY more appearances & scored MANY more goals at EVERY junior level of international football. Yep I'm a twart.
coopsieyid
WorldPeace or maybe they are just trying to attract clubs to take Bentaleb on loan. It's a Cup after all. Capoue started against man utd.

Lamelas injured...

Shedboy - Don't worry about that pathetic £5k bet, just give him your address ad you'll never see the **** in your lifetime.
coopsieyid
No Lamela on even on subs bench
WorldPeace
Thanks MAN ON didn't know that so fair enough. Re Capoue, he didn't start in earlier matches, he was snubbed for sub appearance with the young man coming on and then today he doesn't start over the young lad, read into it as you like but I think most of us thought Capoue was Sandro's under study and was impressed with him but it seems he is not in Sherwoods mind as first choice after Sandro.
WorldPeace
We have so many injuries its daft
WorldPeace
Gnabry is a quick boy, I hope Rose doesn't get caught flat footed by him. Good that Mertesacker isn't playing, he tends to grab a goal against us. We've got to watch out for Walcott's pace, Dawson could have a bloody hard time here.
coopsieyid
He's probably just resting Capoue and must feel Bentaleb is up to it.
MAN ON!

Not to mention the fact that they have Ozil to bring on if things aren't quite going their way.
coopsieyid
F.A. ... You expect Sherwood's team to cope against Gooners with Dawson at CB acainst Walcott's pace? Not sure if we have anyone in central defence that could. Don't think Fryers would be any better either. Hope TS's set up the midfield to stop the supply at source. Long ball over the top ala WHU.
longtimespur
Actually, their bench is pretty damn crazy - subs: Viviano, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Flamini, Ozil, Podolski, Ju-Young Park
coopsieyid
Townsend, Sandro, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Paulinho, Lamela, Holtby, Defoe, Sigurdsson................. Not a bad batch of players that we are currently lacking really.
coopsieyid
MAN ON! There is a very strong rumour doing the rounds allegedly from his brother that he ISN'T injured. I did put a link up to it earlier. No idea how much credence it has, but he has been spot on before.
chrishove123
Bentaleb has done just as much as Capoue in a spurs shirt as far as I can see so not a huge suprise Tim has gone for a player he knows better and has done just as well. Walcott playing up the middle is much more scary, always scores against us and is twice as quick as Dawson, only hope is he uses a bit of FA Cup spirit and puts in a bone crunching challenge first few minutes. Walker and Rose covering could be essential.
T.H.F.Chris
I don't mind Tim introducing 'yoof' but it feels like he's almost forcing the situation with Bentaleb, you could even argue attempting to make him his prodigy. Not sure if it's in the best interest of the team sometimes...
coopsieyid
Not sure I like all these kids in for this squad, either.
longtimespur
LOL

@SpursOfficial - Jon Obika is back from injury and on the bench for the first time since our FA Cup tie at Leeds last season.

Well, we all surely remember how that game went, lol.
coopsieyid
I understand the worries about Bentaleb, but he does look a very strong and confident player for his age….
MAN ON!
What has Sherwood got against Capoue? I'd feel a lot more comfortable if he was starting rather than Bentaleb. Otherwise you'd have to say that's the strongest 11 we could put out with all the injuries we've got.

Volts - IMHO Walker is my most frustrating player of recent years - brilliant and diabolical in the same game.
Durbanspur
They have stopped WANTING IT which can't happen, we'll get destroyed..
T.H.F.Chris
Our passing is terrible, close ball control is terrible, our game is pedestrian is AVB back in charge?
iwear#10
we have got worse as the game has gone on
ghulamville
Rose has no cover, as a result Chiriches has no cover from Rose who doesnt know whether to stick or twist. Walker is always watching the ball. Never has a clue where opposition players are, Until he has to gallop fifty yards when the ball is pinged to them. Absolute liability defensively, because always gives them the chance of a first touch and second touch.
voltspur
Please Soldado, at least hit target
voltspur
Durbanspur, When has Walker ever been brilliant? He is either useless or average.
iwear#10
CHIRICHES wtf
ghulamville
well done KW cost us yet another goal, got sucked in and ball watching rather then wacthing ur man. why am i not suprised
123spurs
Can someone please tell me what that Bentaleb is doing on the pitch, what a useless *****. He has done nothing in the midfield. Why change him for Capoue who is 10 X better than him. We are in trouble against Le Arse 2 nd eleven. OMG this is poor. I hope Sherwood gives them the hair dryer treatment now because he must be *****ed off with how we are playing.
markyboy40
Is Andy Townsend a Whinger or What. Why do we have to put up with These commentators who keep on disrespecting and whinging about us.

some spurs fans that have been missing from the site since wba game are already composing their long critical posts. bring avb back. ts is out of his depth. levy has no plan. doom and gloom, that kind of stuff.... anyway. I hope we can take this game at the lane with an equaliser. COYS

true logo, we beat man an nowhere to be seen on vs im sure they will all pop up and moan if we loose

It ain't over yet! COYS!
MAN ON!
Sherwood has just had his ass handed to him tactically...no DM cost us a goal, extra man in mid are making mugs of us...but great to watch us run about a bit isn't it?...anyone think we'll be running on empty by 85 mins?...sherwood needs to sort it out..or does this just go down as another lesson in the Spurs Manager training program? 45 min to go, all to play for, sort it out!
shedboy2
Just watched a replay of the goal, walker is too drawn into the centre and not picking up his man. Disappointed!
spurfect one
From the 6th minute they are so dangerous when they get past one of our players we are really open and need cover creating more space i.e. the goal. After their goal we slowed down our movement and it looked like no one wanted the ball anymore which spells disaster as they will rip is apart.
T.H.F.Chris
Bentalab must be benched for capoue, as for that 'spark' from the bench, I dunno, we seem a bit thin. Loving dembele on Wiltshire
van der haart lane
The way we play has got us 3 wins and a draw; arse play 4-5-1 dropping to 4-1-4-1, with 3 over running our two, that's the concern, it's only 1-0, we will continue to give it our best in the second half, if that's not good enough so be it, FFS stop blaming this player and that player, shi7 happens. We are not out of it yet, the next 20mins is about getting back on level terms.
spu 4 life
couple is way to slow for a 3 man MF he would get out run in MF if he was playing

Is Lennon even on the pitch?
Adebayor back to sulking?

Soldado our best player imo,Dembele immense. But Walker & Lennon have given away that right side,Arsenal have a free reign.
Fanny adams
surely tims not gonna play 442 in every game,we are being gassed central midfield because they have more men.
ghulamville
the kid bentaleb isnt contributing, his playing easy 5 yard passes in the middle
ghulamville
I agree a 4-5-1 wouldn't have hurt but we're already 1 down so might as well have a go.
logos8
With Dawson and Chiriches going across Walker had to cover, even if he had held his ground we would have been wide open and either an open goal or a similar easy pass to Corsola would have been on...

We have got to score and get ahead of ourselves, no way are we going to control the midfield now.... Bumpy ride coming up.
T.H.F.Chris
still a second half to come
ghulamville
haha soldado our best player lol what has he done, dembele is fighitng nothing else an could of seen red....1 is back already logo

Bollox to this I can't be arsed to watch us get decking well hammered any more. I'm switching off. This is a load of sheet, TS has been found seriously wanting, there is absolutely no way back for us now. At 1 - 0 I thought we might have the slenderest of chances to somehow fluke a draw but NOW no way. If anyone honestly thought we could win this then they are idiots.
chrishove123
So we take a striker off when behind, good one sherwood dad would be so proud of you

Erikson has been poor today, off the pace slow on the ball, passes going astray. Not good enough.
philbill
it seems that whenever adebayor has a bad day, the whole team has a bad day. we only perform well when he does. It was always going to be tough with 4 against 5 in midfield especially with bentaleb in there and eriksen out of position so there is reason to question TS's decisions but their goals were because of our defensive errors and could have been avoided

One late goal and we could be back in.

lets be pragmatic here, it was never going to be a walk over. They didn't luck their way to the top of the league. That said, Rose has been very poor, just as he was against Manu, but here it has cost us. Soldado looks like he isn't enjoying his football and might benefit from some time off. But, as i said, playing Arse away was always going to be a big ask, no need to have a sulk and declare Tim 'found out' then go and have an angerw@nk over your AVB calender.

74 mins: "Tim Sherwood's a Gooner!" trill the home fans. Arsenal bring on Mezut Özil, and take Arteta off. "Can we take it from Adebayor's performance today that the negotiations on his new contract have been successfully concluded," asks David Wall. "Any announcement yet on the Spurs website?"
chrishove123
we are missing a lot of players, been poor al lseason you cant get it right straight away, TS will be dissapointed but he will get them ready for next game ill be sure of that

I told you all he was just after that new contract didm't I, and no one would have it.
chrishove123
We will not be a top 4 team until we take a honest look at our starting eleven and replace the players that are not good enough. That means Walker, Rose, Dawson, Lennon. Lennon for all his running and tracking back has no end product, can't make the final pass or shot. Dawson is a good guy to have in reserve but doesn't have the pace required. Rose and Walker no explanation surely is required. We can support and hope and dream but in the end we need quality on the field before our hopes are turned into reality on the field.

Bye bye Spurs, great opportunity to stay in the cup. Let's not talk about injuries as Le arse also had lots of injuries, I am afraid there are no excuses today. Bentaleb has been useless. Rose should never be allowed on our pitch again. Ade well he was terrible. I suppose now we can concentrate on our league.
markyboy40
Fecks sake. Up at 4.30 to get the early ferry so I can watch this shiete! Should have had a pen. They are missing their best 3 players, we are missing 9!! We have a bench full of kids, which I don't like, and rose is *****e. 2 gifts to arsenal in 2 games this season. I hate losing to arsehooles!

What a load of shi1, gave it away and f6(key it up properly. Looking at the subs I don't think Tim even had a choice of line up, so many injuries its unreal. Soldado has got to do a lot more, even if he doesn't score he can't keep shooting wide, with two upfront it's essential he contributes every game. FFFFFFFFF6666666666(((((((((((((KKKKKKKKK

I must be watching a different game...thought Bentaleb did really well. Soldados first touch and passing is a joy to watch, but yes he must hit the target. Thought Adebayor, understandably was knackered. So, lets move on, get some players back. I would say one thing though, if TS is going to always play Adebayor he might be disappointed with the return he gets.
jacobslad
Bentaleb even misses when he tries to stamp on Monreal, typical
hugh jarse
Bentaleb improved as the game went on. Maybe will come good. Pschotic stamp close to Monreal. Waler and Dawson no hopers, Rose and Chriches need to improve. I;ve seen a lot of Chadli and what percentage is he at. Good defensively but takes no risks whatsoever. Not better than any other player on the field. Is very, very average
voltspur
Not blaming team, soooo many injuries although Dawson should be sold in January, just have no confidence in his ability, usually at fault for the goals we concede and I just cant wait for Vert to come back asap. Soldado again wasteful, does Ade have to put the ball on the line in order for him to score from open play. Will get better once injured players return COYS!
spursnoob
Arsenal were more fluid in attack and could have easily had more. Eriksen was the biggest disappointment. I thought Dembele was our best player by a mile, bentelab although not pulling up any trees kept the ball well and played it simple. Rose also poor. Lb situation needs sorting out. Not going to be too harsh on TS as Arsenals home form is superb. Really annoyed that we shot ourselves in the foot again, all our own doing.
spurfect one
Best team won on the day, simple as, lot's of new posters or old ones waiting for us to lose and slag off every player possible. Saves on fixture congestion anyway. Full week before the Palace visit, bring it on.

embarrassing from top to bottom....Rose is a squaddie at best -the LB position has cost us the season so far. Levy- what a ***** owner - took more money out of the club for his fat cat salary last year than we have spent (net) in the last 3 years...charlatan of an owner who appoints a man who has no experience and no qualifications - Tim nice but dim (or should we call him the tosser with the tea now?) who makes a horlicks of team selection and subs alienating a french international DM...Spurs? there used to be a club over there....
shedboy2
i agree, logos, we didn't play well. far too many mistakes and the chances we had were fluffed. I feel that Rose was only a great LB in our imaginations as the last 2 games he has been a liability - I hope the DoF is taking note. Other than that, i can't see us doing too much in the window, due to the 'magnificent' 7 signings last summer.
Conan_the_Spur
Small club beats big club, it's what happens in the cup; we just need to move on and focus on the league. I was far more disappointed by the Wet Spam defeat.
MrSpurs
well that's the second cup Tim's lack of experience has got us thrown out of...who can blame him for taking the job though? who knows he could be a great manager...trouble is he's learning at our expense....Levy has turned us into a joke...
shedboy2
Blessing in disguise. Now we can focus on the league. Love the knee jerk reactions to this defeat. I wasn't expecting us to win today. Arsenal are top of the league with a well drilled, integrated team. We need this season to gel. I totally agree with Arsene Wenger, you just can't thrown seven new players into a squad and expect them to click immediately. At least in this game, like the last defeat at the @rse, the team kept going until the end.
zombie-greavsie
Lennon,Adebayor,Rose or Benteleb? Take your pick for worse player on the pitch, all 4 were shockingly bad.

Thought the first half weren`t too bad,but 2nd half was embarrasing.Soldado didn`t come back out,Lennon didn`t turn up at all,& Adebayor went back to being Adebayor.Benteleb was out of his depth.

2-0 flattered Spurs really, men V boys.Sherwoods subs were equally as baffling.Sherwood himself had no answers or tactics.Just picked the team & sent them out their to face humiliation.

Declan Walker
We need to look at the big picture and not just this game. The problem is not who is on the bench but who is in the starting 11. The problem is not Bentelab or Capoue as they are subs and will not start over Sandro or Paulinho. However Walker and Rose, Dawson, or Chiriches (when Vertonghen returns) will start every game as we have nobody better. We cannot hope to improve without quality.
iwear#10

That was a large dose of reality. Hopefully we'll learn some lessons from it. Let's look forward to next weekend. 4-4-2 was not sensible today particularly with today's version of Adebayor.

We need this season to gel. I'm sick of hearing this one. OK yes I was saying it when AVB was here for the first part of the season, but we haven't really progressed as a TEAM have we, it's just the new manager bounce. Normal service WILL be resumed in a couple of weeks and we will find ourselves in about eighth place. Then all our "top" players will go because they will get offers from teams in Europe that are competing in CL every season and we will be back to where we were before AVB came in. Oh well, never mind because THAT IS THE SPURS WAY and "The Spurs way" is what the majority have been calling for. I hope you are going to be happy when it happens and not start your whining on about Levy this and ENIC that, because THAT is what you all wanted. I wanted progression and a way OUT of the so called Spurs way. Too late now though. Bye bye all the good work that was done over those two great seasons.

Lennon - did what he always does, plays one good game, is ABSOLUTELY invisible the next. Benteleb - Welcome to the big leagues son, now go sit back down and try again in a year or two. Ade - To your credit, you had ZERO service, that being said please don't return to your sulking ways. Soldado - the goal is the same size during open play as it is when you are taking a penalty yet somehow you think its 3 feet wider. Erikson - crossing means you the ball has to beat the first defender Dawson - my god you are slow! Rose - WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Walker - You think you are better than what you are. I don't care how fast you can run, if you are out of place every 2 f***ing mins, you could be usaine bolt or justin gatlin and it wouldn't matter!!!!!!!!!! Vlad, Hugo, and Mousa you were the spurs historical form....."not **** but not really that great either" Tim - still backing you as I think you will become a good manager, that being said, you got your backside handed to you today. Downside - I was reminded why i HATE that little douchebag Whilshere. Upside - At least we have one less competition to focus on. Still have a shot at europa and top four, which would be a very good year.
jefferyhyde
well not read any of the comments since kick off. Seems to me Bentelab over Capoue is not at all good, Bentelab is tidy but does nothing, Capoue can do what Bente did today plus tackle, run, pass the ball quickly forward, bad pick that one by Tim. Rose will get slaughtered and quite rightly as we were really just getting fully into it when he did his dance on the half way line. I guess shed has a LB erection. Taking Soldado off for Chadli when we wnet two down was such a bad move I simply cant understand how any logic could be applied unless Soldado was injured of his mother had just died. I thinnk until strictly come Rose we were well in the game and I think the FA should do Walcott for his stuff on the bench at the Spurs fans, failing that Sandro snap both his legs and both nostrils when we next play them. Will Tim learn from his mistakes better than AVB did?.......ps the the F was Walker doing immediately before their first goal.
tophobunty1882
The big question really is out of our 7 signings how many do you really want to start against palace......for me it is only Paulinho and Erikssen,, the rest have either been average or rubbish.. Erikssen has had a couple of good games and Paulinho is getting better all the time. Honest assessment of the other is Chadli rubbish, Lamela rubbish, Capoue average, Soldado becoming rubbish... Might as well give up on them this year and hope they ALL need a season to settle because if not we have truly wasted £100m regardless of net spend.
T.H.F.Chris
123spurs Trolls don`t know the difference between lose & loose.
Fanny adams
In every match recently, Capoue v Bentaleb is a no brainer....Bentaleb has been the far better and more composed player. I have no doubt that Capoue would get into the French team way ahead of Bentaleb, but recent form for Spurs supports picking Bentaleb. I hope Capoue raises his game and adjusts because with Sandro and Paulinho on the way to recovery I think his chances will be minimal. Capoue could be sold, I think Holtby will be loaned back to Shalke, 4-4-2 requires a rebalancing of the squad...mfs for a striker.
jacobslad
TS has hardly had time to actually get the players on the training pitch with the games coming thick and fast. The first goal today come from our RB area when Walker was completely out of position and the 2nd come from a terrible mistake by rose. No coincidence our young fullbacks are making mistakes as they are still learning and TS can't contemplate for that. Is he the right man for us? Imo no, will i support him all the way, hell yes.

Never mind, I have lived with this sort of sheet for the last 50 years apart from the odd cup run here and there and the occasional really world class players that we decided to sell to buy in more mediocre ones to take their places. I was there at almost every home game when we got relegated and we were playing far more exciting football back then than we are now so I suppose I can live with it for another 50 odd years. For live with read suffer it. LOL
chrishove123
I didn't think we would win today. As someone mentioned above, Arsenal are a well drilled, integrated team and top of the league. We are a team making a transition of new players and now a new manager. The new manager could not be more different from the previous one. On top of all that TS has a small squad to choose from with so many injury's. The players have played a lot of games as a result. My main gripe is that i would have played Chadli instead of Soldado against Manchester United and Arsenal. I am not a huge fan of the 4-4-2, However i do think we can expect to outscore our opponents against a lot of opponents playing two strikers. Not against the last two teams though. All credit for getting the result against Man U, they are poor this year. The movement, the attacking intent, the freedom that the team has been given is refreshing and the main reason we have been scoring goals and getting results, not necessarily the 4-4-2. Oh and Ade has been great up until today.

Big C, You're coming across as desperate. There was a lot worse spurs players today then Lennon.
spurfect one
Agree with Spurious, move on from this game, too many things to contemplate, Bentaleb instead of Capoue ????, but the arse seemed to play at twice the speed of Spurs today, we seemed soooo slow, Soldado's still missing the net, Adebayor's 1st touch was not good today, nor was the coach's tactics - he gave the arse the midfield and they certainly took it, grudgingly give them credit. Oh well, onwards and hopefully upwards. COYS

well said spurfect one , we all no this about him, but hes like a bad fart wont just go away still lingers around.
123spurs
Most of the team were poor, we move on and get ready for the next game. Rose's lapse killed it for us, we didn't test the goalkeeper apart from the Eriksen chance.
Kong
asherthesmasher Yeah Ade has been great but I have a feeling he has, (as I thought) possibly just put his name to that new contract he has been offered 9which hop one else seems to believe was on offer), either that or he KNOWS it is going through so he doesn't have to try any more because he has got what he wants, another exorbitant contract so he can support the charities back in Africa. I don't begrudge him going for the best he can get to help them out, but what I do begrudge is his attitude once he has got it done.
chrishove123
This was never going to be easy. Too early to judge Sherwood. He is, to be sure, completely unqualified, but he is the selected one and will be here at season's end. To make any determination on him we need to wait until, at least, the 10th game. If we are top 4 or within a couple of points of the top 4, all may well be well. If we are well out of the top 4 and have all the players back and bellyaching that they are not playing, it has all the potential to set us well back. We'll see. Only 2 things to play for now. We play 4-4-2 which generally does not garner results in Europe. By the end of February there could be nothing left to play for. Time will tell. I don't see any plan beyond "go out and play" so I'll just take it for what it is. There is no plan. Let's see how seat of the pants works. COYS

Fanny Adams your footballing knowledge is zero, stop talking like you are Johan Cruyff.
spurs-stelios
People saying Rose is a squad player need there head examined, that guy is league 1 at best, cant defend, cant attack, cant cross, cant pass, the guys not even that quick, so whereas Walker makes a mistake he can often recover from it. Top priority to get 2 left backs in, with Fryers as third choice.

asherthesmasher, I agree re Soldado. Currently he isnt scoring, ist even hitting the target. He's shown a lot more depth to his game since TS took over BUT everything he does from, passing to dribbling, we have guys who can do it better. The only advantage Soldado has is that he is the best finisher, but since he isnt scoring, that so called ability of his is made redundant. For that reason, I wouldn't play him against the bigger teams until he starts hitting the back of the net.
Guyver
Sell Soldildo ASAP he is a waste of money and will NEVER come goos in the Prem, he just isn't suited for it. Wrong type of style and player.
chrishove123
Big C you made a fool out of yourself for slating Lennon last season for no apart reason, why bother changing your name to do it all over again?
T.H.F.Chris
There are some massive over reactions on this site. We didn't play too badly today IMO. The problem for me was we held on to the ball too long, reminiscent of AVB times. I imagine Capoue is not fully fit, coming off against United and on the bench today. Walker was fine, in fact all the defence bar Rose played ok. Dembele was great, Ade poor everyone else average. We need a left back no doubt.
Sebastian Short
peterballb COULD be nothing to play for, that's a very optimistic standpoint, I say more likely there will be NOTHING left to play for, not even top four.
chrishove123
123spurs, I certainly have no problem with criticizing players when they deserve it, but when you criticize a certain player over and over again when they don't deserve it, it sure looks like a personal agenda. I'm not saying Lennon played good today, but he was far from our worse player. Credit has to go to arsenal, they played quicker then us, defended a lot and broke quick.
spurfect one
Guyver Soldildo is supposed to be a world class striker who is SUPPOSED TO SCORE GOALS, he drops back into positions where he shouldn't be thereby weakening our attack and cluttering up spaces where other players should/could be. He should be doing his job which is sticking the ball in the back of the net, not pouncing about trying to set players up in mid field. He just can't cut it in the Prem. Sorry but get rid of Soldildo ASAP.
chrishove123
Kong the punch would have been epic
logos8
The only poor player today was Rose. Everyone else had average to good games. We played poor as a team but 10 players had a good game. End of the day we wouldn't have won this cup and we need all our fit players to keep fit.

January to do list........call BAE back from QPR, bring in Lescott on loan, put in a bid for kenwyne jones, explain to soldado that the goals aren't wider here that in spain.

peterballb

To be fair we shouldn't have given Walcott the chance to gloat, he will now be hated at WHL and I don't think the little ***** will be able to take it, he didnt even get properly abused before today.
T.H.F.Chris
Our biggest mistake was to start with two strikers. They swamped us in midfield with the extra man. Capoue should have stated in place of one of the strikers. The idiot who said bentaleb is useless **** you too. He wasn't great but he wasn't bad either. We just came up against very strong ********* team who had 5 midfielders to our 4 and the youngster was effectively neutralised. That was very naïve of Tim. Hope he learns from this. And **** the FA. Cup. Let the scum waste their time trying to win it, because they won't.
neymar
woodyn17, you must have not been watching the same game as me today. Are you telling me that lennon and ade were "average". I suggest you see an eye doctor asap my friend.
jefferyhyde
I told you peterballb will come out of the closet as soon as we have a disappointing result.
logos8
This says it ALL. The team with two strikers ended up with nil and the team with no strikers finished up with two
chrishove123
Sebastian Short What game were you watching????? Our passing was abysmal, we weren't going for the ball first and let them have it we had no thought, Lennon was non existent when he should have been running at their defence giving them a torrid time with his pace along with Wlaker, Soldildo couldn't even get the ball on target Ade wasn't trying, and TS was just sitting there layer back laughing and joking in his chair instead of being on the touchline giving it sheit.
chrishove123
No complaints. We were outplayed and well beaten. There is a gulf between us in nearly every position. Very disappointing and embarrassing as usual.

tophobunty1882
Everyone in the world is saying the performances have improved since we sacked avb, only peterballb and avb's relatives don't see it. Only they agree that keeping soldado isolated was a wise decision even though anyone who knows a bit about football agrees that playing alone is harder no matter how good you are at it. Even players are coming out now to criticize avb for his tactics so it shows he didn't have the full backing of the dressing room, they were keeping quiet just so they could get game time and not risk being sent to train with the reserves like ade. And please don't give me the best win % argument because it's bull krap and I have the numbers to back up this statement.
logos8
the \" I am only interested in my vested interests award" goes to Fanny
tophobunty1882
No he doesnt peter, thats the problem, unless you are making things up as per usual. I can of course show you the several links of Ade and BAE making the same hand gestures.
Guyver
chrisrove123, Soldado isnt a world class striker, never was, never will be. We won't be able to buy a world class striker either, unless they are on the decline, or are young and have potential to be world class.
Guyver
Too many players had an off day, cannot do that against the scum, soldado I thought started well them tailed off, ade was trying but not good enough today, Eriksen, Lennon were poor. Our attacking threat were not at it today, let's see how we respond against palace. So far Sherwood is matching AVB with his results, both beat Man U away, both lose to arsenal away, both lose to west h&m home, both draw to west brom home, both beat Southampton away :)
Kong
Guyver, sorry ALLEGED world class striker. LOL
chrishove123
What great foresight your genius of a manager AVB had about our "negative spiral". You lot sure are performing in the league. And with such world class talent as Pendado you're terrifying teams. OH WAIT THE GAME IS OVER AND REALITY HAS KICKED IN? LOL What did I tell you about midfield even without Ozil? Both goals came from there, Santi and Rosicky. And Koscielny had your attacking players in his back pocket.
Gunnerfan1987
logos8, oddly some of us have other commitments in life. Awful performance today. Great result, awful performance against ManU. Very average performances the two league games before that. We have been getting results. Paper over as you will. I will await the 10 game mark before I make any preliminary statements about Sherwood. Substitutions are a concern. Defence is at 6's and 7's. Now only two competitions. How many of the 27 players we have been using will factor at all going forward? It's going to take some managing to not have 10 or 12 asking for the door. I expressed my concerns when AVB left. Wrong time. We are now out of 2 cups. We may find 13-15 players to lean on the rest of the way. If they succeed and get top 4, great. If we are not in Europe next season, start again. COYS
peterballb
Well Palace beat WBA (who we couldn't beat) 2 - 0 today so THAT doesn't bode well for us does it.
chrishove123
Guyver, think peterballb was being funny with that comment about Walcott, not being serious.
Kong
Assessment today - I thought we did ok but we are just not good enough, well the players on the pitch were not as good as Arsenal although we trued.

I think Soldado is a concern and I keep saying it I have and cannot take to him. Sometimes I think I am watching a different games to others who think he works hard. I don't think so and I just feel the fact that he is our out and out striker he should be busting a git to get into the area and he doesn't. He was out wide taking Lennon's place, the CD's were really worried about him there and he does it all the time, he plays a short pass on the wing or outside the box and stands about, or strolls around instead of getting into the area.

I also noticed that when we were taking a corner he wasn't putting himself about in the area he stood off, he wasn't up for the fight, CD's are not bothered about him, he may be a good finisher in a continental league but he hasn't proved clinical in the PL and he has had enough time and chances now and if he isn't busting a gut to get in the thick of it then we are carrying him effectively, wasn't everybody moaning that is what we do with Defoe.

I watched his body language when we had a corner and he was doing what I used to do, he shy's away because he doesn't look confident at getting involved, probably in case the ball comes to him and he misses again. I did it because I hated corners, I couldn't head a ball and I had a useless long range shot so I used to hope people couldn't see me shying away, but I can see it in Soldado.

CD's in the PL are not concerned about him one bit and for me I just cannot see him turning it around. First it was he wasn't getting chances, he needs time to gel, but he has had time and chances and he doesn't look like scoring and his attitude imo stinks. He looks like 'poor bloody me' syndrome, he needs to drop that attitude and fight and work and work.

Personally if we could get the cash for him I would say let him go, ut him out of his misery and ours. However, we would need a proven goal scorer, I think we do anyway. We cannot rely on Ade, and we cannot rely on Defoe and with Soldado not coming good we will not achieve much more than 6th imo if we are lucky. When you play tight games you need a quality striker that will take one of the few chances which I believe is why we brought Soldado but non of them are that type of striker, if Soldado was he isn't anymore.

Our midfield looks light weight and will struggle with that line up, we got away with it at Utd but today we didn't and they didn't play their strongest team.

Eriksen is not a CM in a 4 4 2 yet, the young lad did ok on his debut start but really is that all we have, we need Paulinho back and Sandro imo and then we may start to dominate the midfield, but where the goals will come from I don't know.

I am not going to critise the teams effort or Sherwood as it is too soon for the manager and we have so many injuries but don't think just because we have had a few good results we are anywhere near solid enough to make that top four.

The balance of the team is wrong. I said it before how Sherwood can get our best players in the formation of a 4 4 2 I don't know especially when they are all fit, then keep them happy.

What hurts me is not way we played but once again we are just not able to beat our rivals and were they have long term stability in Wenger we haven't managed to do that. It hurts that once again we lose to Arsenal when in fact they were not that strong a side, they could have played more of their better players and we would probably have lost that 4 nil.

The only good thing is that we have two competitions to deal with which may help us fitness wise but will there be enough games to keep all the players happy?.

Could Sherwood done something different, yes he could have played Capoue, and he could have brought Kane on as we needed a goal and Chadli never looks like scoring either. Still he didn't do much wrong we were and are not as good as Arsenal, although at the beginning of the season we really thought we would be, let down again by another season of being at the circus.
WorldPeace
And gotta LOVE the cognitive dissonance of you guys. Spurs fans PRIOR to the game: Tim is a tactical genius who has given us new lease on life. AFTER losing again, this time by 2-0 to an Arsenal almost-B team? "It's too early to judge".
Gunnerfan1987
peterballb nice excuse but it's such a big coincidence that you come here to moan and criticize only when we lose. You do seem like a real supporter. I admire you
logos8
logos, the fact it looks better does not make it more likely to succeed. We have been outchanced, I believe, in every game we have played. WE now count on the opponents to be woeful and us to bury the 3 of 20 shots we get on target. AS I said, the results are coming (they were with AVB too for those who actually care about points) and one is judged on results. If players have nothing to play for in March and are being frozen out in a WC year, the barn door will not be close able. COYS
peterballb
No kong, he was being serious, read his previous comments on the issue. He still thinks there was "malicious intent" behind the Ade and BAE pictures, despite those players always using the same hand signs, with Ade's 3 fingers representing "E" for Emmanuel.
Guyver
Oh and who thinks Rose is good enough for a top four team are wrong. He starts brightly but as soon as pressure is on he struggles, he cannot cut it against the better teams. To think he can mess around like he did as well shows arrogance imo, who does he think he is Ronaldo. The lad is a mid table player, never rated him and today again he showed he is not good enough.

Logos v Topho lol jointly awarded 'name and shame them' of the day.
T.H.F.Chris
Gunnerfan1987, if that was your B team, you just played our C team. We top the premiership injury table with 10 players out. Although if anyone has called Tim a tactical genius (which I highly doubt) then they are talking nonsense.
Guyver
I hate to bring his name up, but people keep saying TS hasn't has time etc. well when Arry came in he transformed the team in a matter of weeks and saved us from possible;e relegation, then look what he did, OK he screwed up in the long run, but my point is that if HE can do it in almost immediately then so should TS be able to, unless of course he is no good and has just been a very very lucky boy up 'til now and his luck has now deserted him. We NEED a proven MANAGER NOW not a back room youth development charlie who hasn't even got his badges and has NEVERT managed any team before let alone a team that is SUPPOSED to be an aspiring regular CL and top four team. I will still back him, but I have very serious reservations as to where we will be at the end of the season.
chrishove123
peterballb all these theories that players will be looking for the door because avb was sacked are ridiculous. One one note you defend avb saying we weren't going to finish 4th anyway because 7 new players was too much and gel was needed. One another note you are saying that players will be leaving now because of lack of success this season? It's contradictory. Levy won't let players leave anyway unless he wants to and no big bids will come for them anyway. I am sure he will keep the big players at least one more season.
logos8
Guyver I was just talking about the Walcott comment, not about the ade and BAE picture. At first I thought the ade and bae picture were out of order, poor timing right after the Liverpool match, they gave their reasons and we move on. The timing if it was wrong. I hope we get Walcott back in March.
Kong
I know the scum deserved to win and we can have no excuses but f.u.c.k me why is it that we get no big decisions from mark 'I am a useless dumb ass ref' clottenburg? Rose is clearly fouled but he sees it as diving, he saw an insignificant handball by lennon but misses a penalty handball by cazorla. Their LB clearly fouls walker in the box but he gives nothing. We must get a corner but he gives goalkick to them. And then after he blows the final whistle it's as if he is congratulating rosicki on his goal... what the...ever since the pedro mendes non goal at OT I have hated this waste of space excuse for a ref and he just keeps on disrespecting us with his downright bias referee-ing.

Rose can't have any complaints if we go out and buy a 1st choice left back now, before today he could have claimed he was learning worth the investment, not why more. The only defence he may have is he had no options, the camera angle didnt show it but even so he should have gone home if no one was about.
T.H.F.Chris
'09/'10 -> 55.3% win rate & 4th spot... '10/'11 -> only 42% win rate but had an incredible run in CL, finished 5th... '11/'12 -> 52.6% win rate & 4th spot... AVB 12/13 -> 55.3% win rate 5th spot. Harry had an overall win rate of 49% for us compared to avb's 52.6%, but considering the circumstances of his first season and the ones of the season in which we had to deal with the champions league fixtures (where you don't have the luxury to play reserves and still win matches like in europa league) I don't think avb's record makes his stint an achievement compared to what harry managed to do. Take into consideration a lot of points won by Bale alone when we didn't look like winning and you can shove avb's best win % up a donkey's arse. AVB had Falcao and Hulk at Porto and he was in his home country which makes things easier. You put him with any team outside Portugal and he will struggle without world class players to save his act. He would probably do well in Italy with his defensive tactics, but he is no Mourinho and will never be. Keeping avb did not guarantee success this season and I am 100% sure Levy did not make the decision without consulting football experts... and all football experts were saying that keeping a good striker exiled while still paying him 190k / week was madness considering we had goal scoring problems. Doesn't look like all the players were behind avb anyway so one might say he was on his way out and it would have probably been even worse to keep him. You clearly have a big problem when you kick out an away supporter that came all the way from Norway, just because he was singing that you will be sacked in the morning.
logos8
peterballb-I agree to a certain extent. Yes our football is faster, more attacking and more exciting but is it more effective, in the long run probably not.

Is it better, depends on the way you see things. yes if you want short term excitement but long term I personally don't think so. I think we are naive in our play and eventually the points will dry up, teams will suss the way we are playing. We look inexperienced, under AVB I thought we looked experienced professionals but just struggled with the final third and that imo was mainly down to poor strikers, movement and finishing, new players adapting to the pace and injuries but AVB was developing something, I didn't like the football it was boring and predictable but he needed time imo to finish the project and I think he was sold short with the players he got rather than the ones he needed to implement his system, so it broke down.

Now we have exciting inexperienced unprofessional football, what do we expect, we have a inexperienced coach. Yes we want to play the Spurs way, fast attacking football but we did that for years and achieved very little, AVB was trying to get us organised, steel like, hard to beat and then the fluent football would follow. We have regressed imo, but it is exciting to watch but I am under no illusion that Sherwood is the answer or not backing AVB right either. IMO I said it all along, as much as I hated watching our football under AVB he shoudl have been given the season, may be even next season to finish the project and the board should have got the players he wanted and they shouldn't have sold Bale.

I see us back to the old Spurs way but what did we achieve playing that way, naff all imo. The style we are playing I would expect top 6 if we are lucky.
WorldPeace
Kong, his comment about Walcott were quite clearly to prove via sarcasm, that Ade and BAE were intentionally mocking Spurs, which as has already been proven, was not the case.

ledleygomez
Fair point Guyver, they were stupid to tweet the message rather than the picture, we lose 5-0 to Liverpool and they tweet what a match, not great. They were not mocking spurs but were mocking someone. Doesn't matter now.
Kong
going away to arsenal 442 (but its not pure 442 with and up for it Ade) is an attempt on suicide, having said that we were very well in the game until the Rose episode. Two BIG mistakes by Tim, Bentelab over Capoue in that game and the Soldado for Chadli sub immediately after we went 2-0 down. Arsenal were the better side and deserved to win, but for the Rose mistake they actually might not have.
tophobunty1882
Tough luck today lads but in truth you were pretty useless and probably should have lost by more. 4-4-2 will never work against the top teams and too many of your players don't actually contribute enough where it matters. Lennon was useless and while I don't rate Dembele I thought tonight he was your best player. It was really too easy for us, there is a gulf in class between the two sides that I don't think can be simply explained as time to gel.
Galway Gooner
peterballb just like the coincidence that you come here and post only when we lose so you could moan and criticize and predict the doom and gloom it is disrespectful to the club

Guyver, that has not been proven unless you just want to take their words and ignore the timing of the event. It was deliberate. They are not dollars. They knew what they were doing. jefferyhyde
ledleygomez You say we need time, just like AVB wasn't given?????
chrishove123
kong, BAE grasp of the English language is not great. What a match is basically saying "wow". Oversensitive Spurs fans or those with an agenda overreacted and the media jumped on it. If you read BAE tweet history, you'd see he goes to most Spurs games and always post positive stuff. Why on earth would he suddenly decide to mock Spurs? Why not mock the 6-0 thrashing by Man City? Or the West Ham game? It was all blown up nonsense and guys like Peter lapped it up.
Guyver
it's the first time this season that we had 4 games in a row without losing and also the first two games we won with 3 goals in our favor on the score sheet. Tim might be out of his depth but if our results and performances are better under a naive rookie, what does that say about avb?
logos8
thx topho! And which of my 3 previous posts earned the reward? If its the Bentaleb v Capoue comment I stand by that, and seem to be in the same camp as our illustrious manager and coaching staff. Maybe Capoue wore the wrong hat to training, as well as being late....lol we must need a man manager.
jacobslad
Logos8, not everything AVB done was bad, Sherwood has got 10 points from 4 league games, AVB started the season with a good run winning 4 out if the first 5 games. Was I happy with AVB, no I wasn't but cannot say Sherwood is better results wise until the end of the season.
Kong
Yes it was blown out of proportion Guyver, I just feel the timing was poor that's all. We all know BAE is not a fan of AVB, i had an issue with the timing of it all. Nothing come of it and the players apologised, that is the main thing.

Kong, ts is a rookie in management but everyone is saying that spurs have never looked so good under avb in one season and a half. That's enough for me to realize that avb was not the man to take us forward. T.H.F.Chris
Sorry for my absence today. I had 25 guests and many children visiting today at the beach. 86 degrees F. I know. I merit no sympathy. But I managed to watch much of the match, including the embarrassing midfield give away by Danny boy Rose. God, that was a pub league play. I didn't see all of the match, but enough to know that we were well outclassed today. Now we see whether our Timmy can get the team playing like a team for our next match.
Falstaff the Fool
kong, maybe the timing was wrong, but he has posted pics after previous Spurs games, win, lose or draw, with the same goofy smile and 2 finger hand signs, some with fellow Spurs teammates and nobody even noticed.
Guyver
Chrishove are you pi$$ed? After the Man U win you said you were 'euphoric' 'impressed' and that we 'defended brilliantly'. Today we lose two soft goals to the form team in the country, with 9 regulars missing, and you are ready to throw in the towel. Have a word with yourself pal. Neither performance was world class and neither was terrible. We took our chances against United and didn't today. Had Eriksen scored when one on one or Ade controlled that Lennon cross (yes a perfect Lennon cross) properly who knows what would have happened? I wasn't that fussed about this game, for me top 4 and Europe are priorities and more likely.

Gunnerfan1987, you should have seen your fellow muppets whingeing outside the Emirates after you lost to Norwich at the beginning of the season. Talk about fickle.
zombie-greavsie
Jacobslad I had noticed that too. Maybe I watched some different matches but I thought the only differences between today and Wednesday was a) an awful error that led directly to a goal and b) not taking either of the two clear chances. Overall I am happy, I will be happier if we sign a left back and striker and sell Defoe and sigurdssson.
Sebastian Short
Sherwood needs to sit our midfielders down and show them the video of this game, how to pass and move quickly, something only the arse players done. Can't blame sherwood today as he's down to picking the bare bones with our injury list. Thought eriksen was very poor today. Left back , central defender, play maker and striker very much needed if we are to progress, we need to play at speed not walking pace. Arse were better all over the pitch but as i said we have a lot of injuries at the moment so can't be too critical of the result, let's just make sure we do the arse at the lane
whitehartmart
I think TS has done great in getting Adebayor back into the frame, but he has to balance his faith with reality. The reality is/was that after such a long lay off and then 5 quick games in succession the player needed a rest. Can you run yourself into the ground and "be covered in ice" recovering on 1/1 but be picked on 4/4 for this high pressure and for him highly emotional type of game? Would have kept him on the bench and played Capoue in the midfield.
If TS wants to play "4-4-2" both strikers have to drop back and work their socks off, as they have been doing. Today was a (full) game too much for Adebayor. I hope TS doesn't allow fear of "upsetting" Adebayor to affect his decision making. Any other game today, on any other ground, Adebayor would have ben rested IMO.

We lost to a better, well drilled team today. Our squad is depleted due to injuries. It always hurts losing to our arch rivals. I would have liked us to progress in this favourite cup of mine...but we move on. It is not the end of days for us as some of you are alluding to. We just defeated Utd. a few days ago so overall, TS and the players are doing ok.

There are some concerns I know, such as Soldado not firing and lacking back up in L back but we'll have players coming back. We are right up with the leaders in the league, despite all these issues. I am just going to try to enjoy the football and urge them to Win Win Win everytime we play. Like spu4life said, this site is like group therapy, with so many posts after a loss. COYS and Win next week. Have a great weekend all.

You can expect a few good results when a manager comes in and that we got. However, I think today showed that we are still being outclassed, that we still don't take our chances, that we have too many injuries, that individual mistakes are happening and we may be more exciting to watch but I don't see any substance that will carry us through the season.. Of course I want Sherwood to succeed asI want Tottenham to win and get CL but I doubt it, I doubt Sherwood has the credentials, and it will not be long probably March to April that we will be coming on here feeling fed up, that our season for CL will all but be over. I just cannot see the way we are playing be any where near CL spot in a few more weeks. The wheels will start to wobble again, then they will drop off, I hope I am wrong but I just don't think so. the only way I see us achieving anything this season is if we bring in three players, CB, LB and striker and that the new players step up asap but I cannot see it happening. enjoy the exciting football while you can because it is not going to last imo. Did people not see how fragile we were when we went 2 down, the team nearly crumble again, players stop making runs, the belief went, Ade did he work as hard, he has one good game, then average, then good then average, Soldado, well I've enough about him, defense looks fragile all the time, we are talking about a tough PL league we are wanting to compete in and the signs are still there, they have just been covered up with a couple of good results, which is not unusual when a new manager comes in.

This season was lost when Bale was sold, when too many foreign players were brought in all at once and probably not the ones that AVB wanted and when Levy's and AVB relationship broke down.

All we really needed this season was for Levy to keep Bale like Utd kept rooney and Liverpool kept saurez, and to sort out our strikers and strenghthen our defense, and a play maker. not a complete overall and sell our best player because he threw his toys out of the pan, didn't Rooney and Saurez but they are both gracing the PL with their presence.
WorldPeace
zombie-greavsie it might have been a different game if Eriksen, Adebayor, and Soldado had taken their chances. …………………………… Trouble is they didn't take their chances, so in actuality, nothing has changed that much since AVB went apart from Ade getting a few goals, the rest of the team is still under performing and the so called striker we got in and pinned all our hopes on still can't even get the bloody ball on target, Soldildo needs to go and be replaced by a real striker who can score, dare I say, someone like Suarez.
chrishove123
i wont moan about this game.....just hope tim sees how to play the in the league......arsenal are above us for a reason,we just need to keep improving...were we gonna win the cup?
rovinella62spurs
Sebastian Short Yes I was impressed with the way we played against utd. BUT I am totally unimpressed by the way we just rolled over and died today without any real want for the game. There was no challenging for the ball, the passing was even more sloppy today than against Utd. we were not even trying to win 40 60 balls in our favour, I even saw players shying away from the ball when it was going towards them. It wqas a shambles with no plan and no passion. So I think I have it right when I say that this was an absolute pile of dingo's droppings and that TS was clueless today and seemed week out of his depth, even more than AVB was alleged to have been. At least AVB was able to keep a tight defence until he was seemingly forced to change thew style of play to a more open game, that's when the trouble started and we shipped in all those goals. A person can be impressed by one game and then thrown into the depths of horror by the way the next one is played with such a different mind set and attitude. We went into this as if it were our God given right to win simply because we pulled a win at OT. It's ALWAYS been the same with us, we get a great win and then the Spurs arrogance kicks in and we swan around for the next game as if we own it and then get blown out of the water. Still. if you are satisfied with todays showing it can't take much to keep you happy. I want to see us improve NOT go backwards as we did today.
chrishove123
Its only now I am beginnig to realise just how important that 1 point difference in league positions last year means. Even since then with the signings we made and they didn't, I thought we could close the gap. But reality is that Wenger has consolidated his position, taken advantage of a bit of turmoil at his closest rivals, whilst we have decided to create our own havoc internally. They sit top of the league, a manager whose longevity is greater than all the other PL managers added together, a new ground...Sh*t it isn't worth thinking about. 1 point bloody difference. What we do have is a better youth set up, but when one of them steps up, and does his job, some on here crucify him! Anyway its 12.00 in NZ and time for an early pint.
jacobslad
World Peace, fair comments there. TS does come across like a 'arm around the shoulders' kind of manager like Redknapp minus the incessant self promotion. There is merit to that method as it can bring out the natural flair in the players. Granted whether it will get us top 4 is debatable.

Reinforcements in the areas you mentioned will give us more options and insurance in the event of more injuries. Re. Bale, Levy just could not turn down 80+ mil silly dollars thrown at him. Honestly, he was not worth that much to any club to pay but he was worth a hell of a lot to us. That plus Bale's strong push to leave. Then, so many new players to integrate. I really wanted AVB to succeed but he was opposite to TS and HR, too regimented. That's the rollercoaster ride of being a SPURS supporter for us. COYS!
Madaboutspurs
chrishove123, remember who knocked us out the FA Cup last season under AVB. I know absence makes the heart grow fonder but he's only been gone a few weeks..

WP agree with your last paragraph but as Madabout eluded to no one offered £86m for Rooney or Suarez, had Madrid faxed a bid of £40,000,001 for Bale Levys Spanish for 'go f6(k yourselves' would be perfecto. On the 40m and £1 how lucky are we try didnt bid £50m, I think Liverpool would have accepted and they would win the league.

We have lots of underlying problems which were proved today, our best players always seem injured and we are still missing that £26m striker we've desperately needed for the last Berbatovless years. AVB's project is dead but Levy and Baldini sitting next to each other for the game must be able to see we need restructuring and considerable investment.
T.H.F.Chris

Sebastian/madabout ... Good posts, guys. Cheers.

We were beaten today by a better team, stronger all over the pitch, and we assisted them by donating both goals due to defensive errors, particularly Rose's howler to let Rosiky through to score the second. Incidentally I was amazed at Walker's pace, in his attempt to get across the pitch to get to him, if there is anything quicker in the PL, then I haven't seen it. In fairness to TS he is to a large extent ham strung in trying to sort this lot out, all the bloody money was spent in the summer on largely over priced, less than competent players, so he will have few options in the Jan windows, hence suggestions like Shane Long, and Jolien Lescott, being mooted.
Frank
Frank, Arsenal are a team, a team that has developed a style of play over many years, we go back to the drawing board every season so hardly surprising at the mismatch. I am surprised you didn't mention the most glaring problem today, going 442 against a side that are so strong in midfield.
ItalianYiddo
Well, we now have only the Thursday Egg Cup, as a distraction from our PL activities, having now been dumped out of both the FCC and the FA Cup. At least this time it took the top of the league to beat us rather than nearly relegated (hopefully) West Ham. So come on then TS and the players lets pull our digits out and battle for a top 4 spot. Surely sooner or later, we will get everybody fit, and actually be able to pick a team, rather than just have to play who is fit, and manage as best we can.
Frank
Well at least you turned up.
Nwankwo25
Italian Yiddo, I agree with you re the system, but I'm afraid we are just ill equipped to play, and beat them, especially away from home. We unfortunately blew a large proportion of our £111M spend in the summer, on over priced crap, and now yet again, we have to pick up the pieces and start again. Incidentally we didn't get beat 5-0, or 6-0 as we did playing quality sides with our previous system.
Frank
Going 4-4-2 away to Southampton and Man U was risky and the risk did pay off, was the risk going to pay off against top of the league Arsenal? Risky or rookie naive? You are right we did take some heavy losses with our previous system but with that same system we lost narrowingly to them earlier in the season with them hanging on for dear life, today it was too easy for them.
ItalianYiddo
just seen the goals, Lloris positioning was suspect I think he is hitting a bit of low confidence, Lesscott and Long FFS, TS he Redcrap in disguise!!! Rose never ever should of tried his little turn no slip there no excuses Walker dreadful but credit where credit due nearly got back to stop the 2nd goal. onwards and upwards .... Frank was you calling it the EGG cup in 84 when parks ran half the pitch when saving the pen and we were the Uefa cup champions ... no disgrace losing to Arsenal .... I hate it as they are our rivals!!! I think the honeymoon is over for TS and now he will show is credentials .... lets write off season and start a fresh in summer with hopefully minimal buying and selling we need a settled team/squad www.taxifundforsoldadotospain.com I am setting up will throw 1st quid in!! any assistance that will be the ferry fee at dover or are foot passengers free now he can fu(king walk from france. rather Pavleychenko than Soldado at least he knew how to score!! bring back SUPER,SUPER PAV

ItalianYiddo same system got us trashed at home by west ham, lost at home against newcastle, trashed again by liverpool. Not counting the man city because they are on a totally different level. Also same system made us look unable to score goals not to mention the boring constipated football. The out of depth rookie saw the problem and immediately got the players to score goals. The system that you praise wasn't able to deliver 3 goals in a match. The system that you praise got us 15 goals in 16 matches with a goal difference of -6. The out of depth rookie got us score 9 goals in 4 games with a goal difference of +5 with 2 games out of 4 having 3 goals in our favor on the score sheet. I am not saying TS is good enough or the answer, but if this unexperienced rookie has made such an impact and managed to do in his first epl games OF HIS LIFE what experienced genius avb couldn't do the whole season... then I have no clue why you and a couple of other avb relatives keep defending him. Levy is not a muppet. He doesn't make rash decisions when it comes to such a big business. Huge amounts of money are on the line and as any professional would do, he probably consulted football experts before deciding to leave avb go. It's easy to be an expert in an arm chair with a keyboard. It's easy to criticize even though these guys have taken us several steps forward. We could have still be a mid table team but we are not and won't be because of how these people run the business. Also the fact that some of you come up to post and criticize only when we have a bad results tells me everything I need to know about what kind of fans you are.

Maybe Soldaldo will stop flashing his shots across goal and star scoring nearpost, maybe Walker can stop ball watching and watch players positions instead. It was always a massive ask but I still thought we could get a draw. Rose killed that. Rose, Chiri, Walker - they're always trying to trick their way past the opposition. I do like a confident defender but this style has become our 'norm', making it easy to read, as it was today. It's not text-book defending. It's show-boating. And we're not in that space. We're back on square one. Doing things 'by the book'. There's a time for show-boating, and it's not when you're 1-0 down, or when you're playing Arsenal, and generally, it's not when you're the last man. When you're all three... The three defenders I've mentioned are all early 20's and these are the sort of learning-curves defenders at that age go through. Rose won't wanna wake up again feeling like he's gonna when he wakes up tomorrow. He'll think twice in the future. Eriksen had an off day. Some of his passes weren't even close. We never got into any attacking stride as a team. On the few occasions we got through we couldn't finish. Soldado has been effected by his drought. Surprising, seeing how he still sticks them penalties away - I thought he'd be knocking 'em in once he got chances - his confidence needs rebuilding. His build up play is good, little flicks and through balls, he's got good technique, is strong, can hold the ball up, and will come good. £26m. How much is it? What do you get? Not even Andy Carroll. We were quoting Liverpool £20m for Defoe last year. We didn't lose because we played 442 or because Ars are SO much better. Our passing was poor, we didn't take our chances, and to add the icing, we weren't tight at the back. All the ingredients not needed when playing ANY league leaders at their place. We've got Palace next week then Swansea in Wales. Really could do with 6pts there 'cos it's Citeh to finish the month off. 3 games over 3.5 weeks means plenty of training time so hopefully that will show. On the bright side, we're not THAT far from Ars. Even playing like we did, if we'd stuck a chance away it's a different game. We can certainly pass and defend better than we showed today.
jerkinmahjurgen
I cannot believe the savagery of some of the comments from so called fans - not surprisingly from the AVB BFB. This 11 is not and never would be, the team to get us fourth place. They over-achieved in the last few games and it was too much to expect more of the same against a very gifted team riding high in the league. Yes you could criticise the set up and individual performances but look at the bench ffs. Who would cover CB if Capoue had played? Worth a risk in the PL but not the Cup imo. We are still better off without AVB. He was given time and screwed up; let's accord Tim the same courtesy before lambasting him you tossers.

N*****wo25.....All jest. If i give it, i'll have to take it. We were not really on our game yesterday. This cannot be in a North London Derby. I think playing a 4-4-2 was always risky against a very fluid Arsenal Midfield. It would take our strikers dropping back to help out. Something i feel they did not do enough. Add to this the defensive lapses and you will get punished. Enjoy the win, best team won. Maybe a pre match banter with you and i when you visit the Lane.

Some people on here can't watch any other games other than ours! That system broke our premier league points record last season, a points total that would have got CL in every single season since they offered 4 places. It allowed us to break our 20yr plus Old Trafford Hoodoo which is now a monkey off our back. It is a system that at least 75% of the league play and most top sides in European football play. It is a system that we have build a squad to play too. No top side in the prem plays 442 and before someone says City do, they don't. One of their front men always drops off into the hole at home and away they often play with just one up top. They play at home with one orthodox winger in Navas, then Toure and Fernandino holding then the left sided midfielder is exactly that, not a winger. Be it Nasri, Silva or Milner they tuck in thus helping the numbers in the middle. We have a squad built to play a system yet play another which only works when the opponent is much weaker than you, thus negating the numerical advantage. Against equal or better you get outnumbered in the middle, have significantly less possession are much easier to play through and are therefore more likely to lose.
judge
When asked whether he thought he should have played more midfielders to match Wenger's line-up, the Tottenham boss said: "No. "They outnumbered us in the middle of the park but we outnumbered them out wide. They can't have it all ways. I think we were fine. "We didn't lose the game because we were outnumbered in the middle of the pitch. Modern football is won and lost in midfield, for the coach to disregard this accepted wisdom is a concern going forward.

Arsenal were always going to be favourites to win regardless of tactics, they are the better side, you go there conceding the midfield and you don't give yourself a chance. At least we are playing the Spurs way. no one is getting bored. COYS

jerkinmahjurgen, we didn't lose because we played 4-4-2 you say, you and Tim are on the same wavelength let's hope you are both right and the rest of the modern football wrong.

The thing I noticed was the contrast from this game from the previous one earlier in the season. We dominated the previous game using 4231 they hung on for dear life ending the game with 4 full backs in a back 6, with everyone behind the ball. They scored an early goal and then were forced to defend for the rest of the game relying on infrequent counters. Yesterday we were so open they were able to just play the way they are used to and attacked us throughout and could easily have scored more. If being open and easy to beat is what some people call exciting I'll pass.

I can certainly put pen to paper Cider, fingers to key board no night school for me. Both teams missing players and I think that showed in midfield like you say. I think Paulinho to be the better of your signing. The second goal however was preventable and had we not scored that the last few minutes would have been tricky indeed. Im sorry if my banter doesn't translate into reposting of the comments, maybe it will be you doing the same when we play you away next, ta ra!

Hurts to lose to the Arse but they deserved their win, but we gifted them the two goals. We were fairly comfortable and didn't look out of our depth at the Emirates. Sherwood's policy is attack with intent and it didn't pay off but I'd rather we lose in a cup game than the league. Top 4 or at least qualification for Europe is priority. And can we get a specalist LB back? This will benefit Rose in the long run. Learning from an experienced LB will help his education. COYS!

Italian, despite playing 442 and being off colour, we could've still stuck a chance in and levelled at 1-1. That's all I'm saying. We had chances. That we played poorly was the bigger issue. Not the system. Sloppy passing and defending. Look, we could've played 451, still been off colour, maybe create less chances, still not bang one in. Their goals weren't due to the system, either. Poor play, individual errors. Yes, a clever run pulled us apart. That's not the system. A clever run will pull any system apart. We go there with half the squad in the injury room, play 442, play poorly, at the league leaders and were still close to nicking it back to 1-1. Rose made a mistake, Eriksens' passes went astray. We can't have too many players not on form before you just won't match Ars. Whatever system you play.
jerkinmahjurgen
kwo25...Yes must agree. That second goal kind of destroyed what little hope we had left. Not saying we would win, but i do hope both teams can play one another injury free when we next meet. No excuses, best team won, but i do feel injuries hampered us more than yourselves. I understand your striker shortage on the day, but Walcott has played the role and you do score a number of goals from Midfield. This still looked strong and the bench was not too shabby. As for the banter. All good mate.

We should have 40pts this time next week which will ease any relegation fears. I do feel like we're gonna start winning our home games again so I'm fairly confident.
jerkinmahjurgen
Arsenal played better than us and won. Fair enough, but we could have beaten a weakened Arsenal team, even with a weakened team of our own. 442 was not gonna work yesterday. our midfield was overrun. I also dont think Bentaleb should have started over capoue, and the bench scared me, Sherwood is selecting U21's over experienced players, despite injuries, i think we could have had a stronger starting 11 and bench. I am all for "blooding" youth in cup games, but not against Arsenal, and one or two per game on the bench / start is fine, but not 6 of them, leaving no strength to recover from being behind. If we had been playing sheffield fair enough, but nt the scum. I can see a pattern forming and it scares me, it will also unsettle established squad players. Oh, and good luck Theo in the next round..... break a leg as they say in theatrical circles. W%$&*R!

After watching MOTD yes put myself through the misery again I am today finding myself feeling frustrated with Soldado. MOTD showed in the first first few minutes that Soldado was in our area and he actually 'ducked' and put his arm over his head and no one or the ball was near him, he was being a whimp, this backs up what I said in a earlier post yesterday he is not in the fight for it or trying to bust a gut, he is not coping with the PL his attitude is not acceptable.

Then like I said in earlier posts, he is not busting a gut to get into the area enough yet he is our most forward striker and MOTD showed again his inability or not wanting to take responsibility. He picks the ball up and plays a simple pass to Rose and then stands still on the wing. Firstly why is he so far out of the area making that pass, because imo he should be in the area making a nuisence of himself. Secondly why did he stand still after making that pass, we were pressing for a goal, where was his movement as a striker, give and go more importantly why didn't he bust a gut to get into the box once he gave Rose the ball or even more importantly make himself available once he made the pass, no our 28m striker is out of the box, standing around and makes a pass backwards, too scared to take responsibility, negative play and lazy play.

Thirdly, why pass backwards to half way line and as I said stand still, absolutley nothing from him.

Too many times he is not in the box, some will say he was making runs and no one was finding him, well sorry that is his job, whether the team find him or not, he is paid to keep busting a gut until the final whistle, not to take the attitude he obviously has, stop running, stop getting involved. He needs to watch lakaku, he makes loads of runs and his team mates don't find him but he keeps going, making a nuisence of himself, works hard for the team and gets into the box.

I am afraid, time is up for Soldado in my eyes, never taken to him and for me he has had the time and I don;t like his attitude and lack of respect for the PL and our team, if he showed respect he would roll his sleeves up and do some work he is paid to do. He should be making runs into the box all match, and be the furthest striker forward should be in that area every time the ball comes in.

Now as I see it unless something changes we are going to be stuck with a dud for another 2.5 seasons and will not get money for a decent striker because we paid so much for him.

Other teams don't fear him, they are not in the slightest worried about him, and once again we have failed to get our striker force right and effective.

We will not be able to sell him and get our money back, I can't see much changing in the near future and it concerns me that we wasted so much money on at best a average striker, who made these decisions and now us supporters are going to have to watch this week in week out, not good enough.

We have three aging strikers, one that is injury prone now and can't score in the PL any more, one that is unpredictable and inconsistent and not able to rely upon and another that costs us loads of dosh that can't score either and seems to think it is ok to wimp out of the game.

I for one am fed up of the circus at Spurs, the bad signings and the merrygoround of managers and I have supported Spurs for over forty years and for the first time in years I am sick of it all, sick of us being the laughing stock of a club, Wallnut showed us yesterday how much we are a laughing stock with his jester, don't agree what he did but can understanding his gloating, every season we THINK we got it right only to be shown up.

Have other signings really made a difference. Chadli, Siggy, Holtby, lamela, Capoue, Vlad. IMO No, Capoue showed signs of being a decent player and Lamela hasn't had enough games but the others are ok players, not setting the place alight although I like Holtby as a person and Siggy seems a decent lad but come on what have any of these players really done.

We have a dodgy CB in Vlad although he may come good, we have a 30m lamela who can't get a game, we have Capoue who is now being over looked for a kid, Siggy and Holtby are nowhere to be seen now days, Chadli does nothing, Soldado complete waste of money said enough on him. as I see it only paulinho has done ok and he has struggled at times and Vlad has had a couple of ok games. What a club we are.

Cider? Behave. Wa^k0, phu koff you piece of tupperware. It's weird at the emirates, isn't it? All you can hear is the occasional ring-tone.
jerkinmahjurgen
Dublin Hotspur - Agree. Capoue should have played, where was more experienced players like Holtby and Siggy, and taking a striker of for Chadli when we needed a goal, signs are there. The pattern is emerging, wouldn't surprise me if Levy has told Sherwood the job is your's, bring the youth through and we will sell the players and get our money back.
WorldPeace
jerkinmahjurgen, I stated in an earlier post that it was always going to be a very difficult game to win regardless of tactics. I still maintain it made it an almost impossible task playing a 442 however you want to dress it. Our only chance was to match them in midfield and hit them on the break, with one short in midfield it was never going to happen, it was too easy for them and for those of us that live in North London it means suffering the Arsenal fans reminding us it. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
i think they all live together logos8 with one shared internet access which has limited access and is programmed to come on when spurs lose. I do agree with Italian though that playing 442 away at Arsenal is a mistake. why play it and then suck one or two of your forwards back to constantly try to even it up in CM, might as well start the the 3rd CM. Ade alone up front alone today would have made it more even IMO.
tophobunty1882

Arsenal fans on the wind up, guess what, i've wound a few up in my time. Is that not what part of football is all about?, banter/ discussion with opposing fans. I've read nastier posts on this site from Spurs fans to each other. We lost, accept the fact we'll get stick, but remember it's only borrowed.
Cider spurs
We should not have played 4 4 2 against Arsenal we needed to dominate the midfield. However, neither is Eriksen ready for the responsibility of a CM in a 4 4 2 he is too weak, needs to beef up. He reminds me of Modric when he first came, and I've said enough about Soldado. It's getting bad when I am starting to think I would rather see kane a 19 year old who I never rated, but he has looked more promising than Soldado.

I personally think the club is in a mess, we don't have experience in a manager, we don't have a balanced squad, we don't really have a system, we are playing a 4 4 2 but we are looking like we have regressed, and time will show this, it concerns me that people think what they see is better, it's prettier to the eye and it's gives feelings to the heart but that doesn't make it better. It's like seeing a beautiful woman/man that looks nice on the eye and makes your heart flutter, but deep down we know the wife and husband is more solid, more stable and more depth to it and so better than the beautiful being.

I still maintain what AVB was trying to do was better, not as pleasing to the eye and not much happening in our heart that was exciting but it was something of a project that I think could have worked, yes it went wrong and results were bad towards the end but the failing of that project started before those bad results, it started in the summer imo when Bale was sold and AVB didin't get the players he knew he needed to implement the project effectively, relationships broke down before his departure, and the players he got made it impossible to do the imo. The problem is higher up, the board wanting to bring in players that will potentially be sold for profit (fair enough) and the manager wanting players to work with to their insights, often the two don't work. It's no coincidence that we have had so many mangers and so many bad signings.
WorldPeace
Cider-agree, everyone has an opinion and we should accept and respect that. I don't agree with lots of people opinions and I am sure people don't agree with mine if they can be bothered to read my long posts lol but I wouldn't be nasty to anyone, no point, it's just an opinion and from one's perspective, as I see it, I've said my piece and what I think and see and only time will tell whether any of it comes right, I hope not as I am not feeling confident about the club at the moment, but we will see. On a brighter note, another day another game coming soon.
WorldPeace
It is a concern, all these injury claims. Siggy, Holtby, Capoue. Are they injured? Lamela another although Bruv says different. Maybe some ARE gonna depart. You say you don't want someone it'll cost you millions so 'a little knock' is a regular decoy. Siggy, I don't think we'll miss, but I quite like the other three, and certainly think Capoue is better than Bentaleb. Holtby as well, probably. We've heard that Sherwood and Baldini have issues and Tim, despite claiming he hasn't been about, will have built relationships with the players as well. And if he don't like you... I reckon you're out. That happens with any managerial change. I like TS but I've always thought he was Tottenham. I've got one eye on him being Ars. I've got one eye on him doing whats best for him - re playing youngsters (make money out of nothing in this game. £86m for Bale??) - rather than whats best for the club, ie; playing our internationals. The flip side is that Bentaleb looks quite good. Can work in tight spaces, stays composed, generally passes well. I'd be surprised if he gets a game when we can choose Sandro, Paul or Dembele. Now we're out of two cup competitions we could well see three or four players leave.
jerkinmahjurgen
world peace give up avb got sacked because he was pants and didnt leaern from his mistakes. get a life cock you write an awful lot for it to be based on boll ox
tophobunty1882
ItalianYiddo, totally agree playing 4-4-2 away at Arsenal made it an impossible task, especially as Arsenal played with what was in effect a 4-6-0 formation with Walcott breaking from midfield to become the lone striker only on occasions. The naivety of LOSER LEVY'S latest coach goes beyond belief??? A few weeks ago LOSER LEVY was still in all the cup competitions, so he fires AVB and 18 days later he is out of 2 of them playing a primitive 4-4-2 formation! Your could not have made it up! Next cup date with Joe Lewis BAD KARMA destiny for LOSER LEVY is against Juande Ramos in the Europa... ENIC POISON OUT!!!

Guyver- not been hiding anywhere...The appointment of Tim Sherwood was a joke....he may or may not do well but the decision to appoint a man with no qualifications or experience to a club claiming top 4 aspirations is farcical....the supporters are being treated with utter disdain by the owners. Yet another gamble we shouldn't be taking...the Spurs training school for managers, Tim just got a lesson from the professor....
shedboy2
I agree Jerkin, I'd say Tim is doing it for himself. A nice clause in his contract for profit share of selling players for more than we payed for them. Where better to make a quick buck for himself than selling on Bentaleb, kane etc for a few mill and getting himself a little lotto windfall. its very dangerous....

When EVERYBODY plays their heart out in a 4-4-2 it can work. Utd away proves this somewhat. Can Ade produce these types of performances on a regular basis?. If no, then maybe this system is already flawed. For me, the thought of seeing a MF Three of Paulinho, Dembele and Sandro excited me. It still does. Lately we have seen the type of performances form Dembele and Paulinho that we were expecting, and we already know how good Sandro can be. A better or improved Rose in LB and a replacement for Kaboul if injuries cannot be overcome and for me that is just leaving the final 3rd to address. Ade up top with Eriksen and Lamela Left and Right respectivly.

Yep, a 4-3-3. This IMO gives us the Strongest MF, and thus best cover for defence. This in theroy should not be an issue, injuries aside of course. The width maybe lost somewhat, but when we were crying out for width was it not for the crosses to Soldado that we would hope it would bring?. Ade can hold the ball up and allow the likes of Dembele and Paulinho to bomb forward, Width can and should come from LB and RB. It really is just all about getting the final piece namely attack sorted (provided we get the additions to LB/CB IMO). The ball still needs to be played quicker, but i do stand by my thought that a Mf of the aforementioned 3 should be a hard prospect to get through for many a team. If the attack element from MF going forward can improve then it should be monster. Just need that improvement in the final 3rd. All IMO of course.

Have we had many bad signings? I can rattle of lots of very good signings. AVB had a plan. A project, which, when reading it, it had to be implemented letter by letter, word by word, for it to work. That's not how business, football, or life works. His plan was so narrow, he couldn't stray a millimeter. It wasn't so much a road he took us down, but a tight-rope. If it HAD been a road, the only sign you'd be likely to see, would read 'Don't feed the Crocodiles'. No plan B. No adaptability. No Clout. But his biggest problem was not being able to function positively as part of a team. Gradually miffed everyone off. I think Levy was hoping to get £10m from PSG but he decided to stay. What a bummer.
jerkinmahjurgen
Cider, 442 is dead other than weaker teams, it will lose you more games than win them. Personally I am a fan of 4-3-3 with LBs providing width. Of course you need the right personnel for the system to work, no one is quite sure which players were bought by who so unfortunately we start again next season, hopefully with not a trainee as coach.

Real shame about Eusebio, put's yesterdays result into perspective. Saw hin at "the lane" longtime ago. Remember him in our song way back then, ""We all agree, Jennings is better than Yashin, Greaves is better than Eusebio, and ........ are in for a thrashing!"" As for yesterdays game simple fact was the better team on the day won the game! No good blaming Tom, Dick or Harry although Tom's @ Hull and Harry's @QPR. lol. We weren't good enough on the day. Too many injuries atm and players not playing at their best. Now there's less playing time in the future for all our squad players. Not good for any of them in a WC year.

Good Morning campers, how are we all today, 567 to date it's good to see so many ''logged in as'' I know the name, but not the face, we only got 347 when we beat Man Utd away. The big question is ''what the news on Theo, I do hope his injury is nothing trivial'' His such a nice young lad and can count as well. I was wondering yesterday why, when the second goal was scored, which came from our corner, when Soldado had collected the ball, and not planting it back into the arse penalty area, but instead giving it to Rose who was in a worse position, that was an accident waiting to happen and so it proved, when Ricky from eastenders picked his pocket and set off towards Lloris, Walker was not in the picture, Rose was, but Walker raced back and nearly got him, what happened to Rose, did the emirates bermuda triangle swallow him up? Still we never lost any ground on the boys at the top yesterday, I see we are still 2pts off 4th in the Prem.

jerkinmahjurgen, so the plan isn't working, so you think as chairman you would have a plan to make it work. Employing a rookie, is it a better plan? As it stand we are out of two cups, end of the season we'll know where we end up in the league, if we finish top four it will be a better plan.

Loser Levy has now had an incredible 14 chances to take us to an FA Cup final! Spot on, Cider. 442 can work, even at OT. Also agree on the Dem, Paul and Sandro all being top. And you've still managed to get Eriksen in there. No Lennon, Townsend, Defoe, Soldado... the list goes on. We've a strong squad without a doubt. Soldado is at the level of those midfielders though, hair-splitting to say he isn't. Been banging 'em in for years. Whilst Dembele's been at Fulham, lol. Not MUCH in it re formations. Our full-backs make up the midfield numbers in a 442. The 11 against Ars can change to 433, 451. Probably 4231, it's only a tweak away from 442. We broke quickly down the flanks and to be fair, carved at least 3 half decent chances doing that. Gifted them the 2nd. We were sloppy for the first goal, but then sloppy possession-wise all game. Especially at 1-0. Couldn't pass well or keep possession. Both very soft goals to concede, whilst creating chances. And to boot, the ref was his usual self.

Sherwood up until yesterdays latest ENIC humiliation had been respectfully dressed in an all navy blue with the white Cockerel and under Armour logo ON on his THFC tracksuit. But yesterday Danny Boy changed the dress code to try and flog some of his unwanted lime vomit green training gear along with his RED HUGE logo AIA (Arsenal is Arsenal) cup shirts. We should never have lost to wet spam, Italian. Should be in the semi's. But 3rd round at the Emirates is a tough draw. Should've played Friedel in the semi against Chelsea. That would've given us a chance of a Final. Redknapp lost the League Cup final, didn't he? It happens. Two big clubs in a 3rd rd game. Losing to Arsenal is understandable (regurgitates). Losing to the hammers isn't. That hurt more tbh.

442 can work, problem being most of the time it won't work and it Sherwood persists with it regardless of opposition it will be a big problem long term.
ItalianYiddo
Thought we lacked a bit of sharpness especially infront of goal but by and large it wasnt a bad performance imo, certainly not the huge gulf potrayed by itv and reading twitter etc. Ade was just average and his beastmode performances were bound to end, not his fault but a significant drop off from 9 out of 10 performances. Mf used the ball well especially when u consider bentalab moussa were 3v2. Soldado getting slated but again thought he linked very well, just cant buy a goal. If one of those nestles in th he corner or erricksen opens his body and uses his right peg its a different game. Imo wasnt a huge difference and the 442 wasnt anywhere near as open as id feared, and we had excellent opportunities to attack but lacked the final ball.

tophobunty1882
You have to laugh at these football genii, shouting from the rooftops how 442 won't win anything and is an inferior methodology. Try telling that to SAF who was quite successful with this tactic, in an era that ran concurrently with wenger. Who would you say had the most success in that time? Also, we are getting the AVb fanboys telling us how effective he was last season, and how we were the best losers the prem has ever seen! BMJ got us 5th too, should we sign him up again? And he did it with what many would call an inferior squad. Furthermore, time and gelling, only AVB can use these as a forcefield against criticism. Lets be a little pragmatic here and put our emotions aside for a second. Tim has already shown improvements, not only to our style but with goals scored and beating teams from the top half of the table. However, we are not without faults. Is Tim a quality manager? It is far too soon to say, lets see where he is by the end of the season. As for the 'magnificent' 7, well... i think the mediocre 7 would be a more suitable title. Buying the beatles? we haven't even bought The Monkies!
Conan_the_Spur
Disappointing performance. I hope Tim reminds Walker that he's a defender first and foremost. I also hope Tim reminds Danny that he's an elite footballer and no elite player needs to be carrying that amount of flab around the waist. Danny doesn't have the instincts of a specialist defender. He's a winger. He commits way too many cardinal sins defensively to command his area of the pitch. We really do need to buy a proper LB and I honestly think we will. Some of your negative Comments on here regarding Ade have been harsh. I thought he did ok and at least looked up for it. I was more frustrated at the amount of misplaced passes, Erikssen being the biggest culprit. I lost count how many times he gave the ball away, suicidal given that Arsenal always had the extra man in midfield. Eriksen looked overawed. Bentaleb looked tidy but offered very little. Soldado looks as though he's trying too hard but I still believe the goals will come. Halfway mark and he has 10. I haven't given up on him and I back him to end up scoring another 10-15 goals. Apart from what matters most; the scoreline in overall match stats will show it was a closely fought game and both sides were very evenly matched. Unfortunately, Arsenal were technically much better in their passing and movement. We seemed short of ideas in attack ponderous at times and one dimensional. The only saving grace is that we have had the spine of our team ripped out. Verts Kaboul Sandro and Pauli and Townsend. If we can get these players fit, I can see us challenging for 4th. Yep I still haven't given up on 4th!!!
strawboy
Soldado should be doing better but like Topho said he has played a lot better since Sherwood has been in charge. Both him and ade missed chances yesterday, will he come good, I hope so but not sure if Sherwood will revert to ade upfront on his own which will leave soldado out. Hoping Sherwood is not afraid to mix it up if ade loses form.

AVB (and I'm not a fan as you may recall) got it in spades for not being flexible and playing 'his' system....Tim, still wet behind the ears is doing the same thing...this was the first time a team set up expecting Tim's formation and Arsen took him to the cleaners....

On thing for sure Topho, if spurs do manage top 4, then it'd be one helluva achievement given what our club has had to endure this season. A steep learning curve for Tim. If he's to stand a chance of retaining the post beyond next season, he'll need to deliver our pre season objectives of CL football or the Europa cup. Agreed, he'll need to learn very quickly when to go 4-5-1 4-3-3 and 4-4-2. Given the amount of injuries and the timing of AVBs departure, Tim has so far done reasonably well. Still would prefer a seasoned pro to have come in to work alongside him. But I guess that was never going to happen as he appears to be very much his own man. My only concern is the all round inexperience of the back room staff. COYS.

We were never going to get anything out of that game. Too many injuries, wrong tactics, wrong players picked, wrong and lack of subs...even the wrong ref, who has a long history of disrespecting us. I would have liked to see capoue start but we don't know what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe he is not performing in training, maybe he is unhappy at the club or at avb's sacking and does not like sherwood. Unfortunately, whether we like him or not, we just have to suck it up and get behind Tim because he will be here atleast until the end of the season. All our moaning and bickering will change nothing and just make things worse. With all our injuries its actually a blessing in disguise to have lost here because further involvement might have had a negative impact on our league form.

IY, why do think Tim is playing a traditional 442 and SAF isn't? how many times do you see soldado playing the ball forward from a midfield position and Ade working the ball from out wide. Compare that to Cole and Yorke, 1 goal hanger and the other hanging around the edge of the area - and that team won everything. Now, if we had had Sandro fit, the shape of the middle 4 would have been set out differently than yesterday. Your assumptions about 442 have no evidence to support them and are grounded purely in bias. AVB's inflexibility was not the problem, it was his continued use of a system that was proven ineffective. Tim's way has been proven more effective, as evident from the goals and wins against top of the table sides. @chrishove: do you even read your own posts? your complaints are without the slightest hint of analytical thought. ALL teams lose to the best teams and the worse teams, look at arse - lost to villa and citeh.

@shedboy: please reread the posts that you commented on. I was giving evidence to rubbish the claim that 442 is not effective against a 451. I wasn't comparing SAF to Tim (nice strawman BTW) I was merely pointing out the flaw in the logic that assumes a 451 it all powerful and a 442 is useless. You also seem to think that a 442 is inferior, duee to one game, but you also say that it works with the right personnel, which is it? You also expose your bias by saying if Tim loses it will be due to his ineffectiveness but if he is successful it will be due to luck.

conan if I've misread i apologise..can't be bothered scrolling back up. 451 does tend to hold sway over 442 though...but as mentioned if you have the better players then 442 or a variance can work. I don't hold the opinion based on one game..again look at the way teams have moved away from 442...they've done it because they get over run...but there is no one system that is all powerful...as for Bias against what?...the appointment of Tim Sherwood was a farce, a roll of the dice, a gamble...put your mortgage on red on the roulette table if you win are you a genius? i would say you're still a mug punter...but you got lucky. Levy has appointed a man without the experience or qualifications to manage at the top....we won't know if he's any good until he's had a season and a transfer window....why should we have to take such a gamble?

442 will still work in some games, the 442 we play is not 442 in its purest sense because Ade playes deep often as does Soldado at times. I have not been a lover of 442 for some time and cant see how its a good option against a team as good or better than you away from home when you know they will play 3 in the middle, such as yesterday. But as Conan points out clear it can work, with the right manager, players and culture. Not sure how many of those 3 we have. The key for me here this season is how flexible TS can be, will he learn from mistakes? I think we will learn a lot about TS if he starts Bentelab in the next game.

It's just our modern, organized world. Must have qualifications. 125, 135 years football's been going and how long have you needed badges? 15, 20 years? At most. Now all of a sudden without going on that course one would be deemed incapable? It's like saying everyone who attends the course will be the dogs. Total bow locks. It would be interesting to know how many slating Tims' appointment were supporting AVBs'? TS is the last of the dinosaurs. At mid-40's he's from an era not so anal about courses. Not so dependent is what I meant.:} therefor not so alien to make the change. Todays kids will have had study, exam, courses drummed into them from day one. It'll become a thing of the past. For better? Well, supposedly. If you play a career, then do the course you should be better off for it. But you just do the course, you any further ahead than someone with a 20/25yr career behind them?

@shedboy: i entirely agree that appointing Tim was a big gamble, but every appointment is a gamble (tim maybe more so), but experience doesn't always trump ability. Mick McCarthy anyone? As for 451 v 442, If we had strikers that took their chances 442 would have worked. Similarly, if we had midfielders that each banging in 10 goals a season then I would strongly argue we choose that method. Unfortunately, as it turns out, we have neither. Finding a solution to this problem will be the measure of Tim's ability IMO.

The fact is coaching qualifications are a requirement for managing in the premier league. Everyone knows this so if Tim had a desire to manage in the top flight he should have done them by now considering how long ago he retired. Being a player isn't enough that is like saying a soldier that has 25yrs as a squaddie would enable you to be a 5 star general!

Not all soldiers could do it, but they've a better chance than someone who read a book about the army.

Whether they could or couldn't is not relevant the fact is there are structures in place that don't allow it and there is a reason for that. What business appoints a CEO from the admin office because they have been in the business all their career? The demands of top flight management requires skills and training that simply can't just be gained through just having played the game in the past.

CEO? Is that chief exec? If so, it's different to management. It's all finance. Aren't most managers mostly ex-players? I know there's a few that didn't play - certainly not to a high standard, but that's rare, I think most did.

Just got back from a couple of days camping out bush and heard about Eusebio. Saw him play against Spurs in the semi-final of the EC and also at Wembley in the 66 WC finals. Brilliant player; a pure joy to watch, very sad!
