'If It's Football, It's Vital'

In The Spur Of The Moment.

Dear supporters, THFC is our club. We are Spurs. Whoever's running it, managing, coaching or playing for us, we are the true hard core of it's existence.

Come rain or shine, win loose or draw, it's us, the faithful, that keep the Lilywhite flag flying and the White Hart Lane Cockerel, a-cock-a-doodle-dooing. (Are we all mad?). On a daily basis Vital Spurs members discuss, argue and provoke each other with opinions, statements and questions that highlight our fears and failings, our likes and dislikes. We can't help but to show off our pride, prejudice and passion for this great club. (Why are we so opinionated?).

So fellow Spuds, with these thoughts in mind and without the distraction of playing in the FA Cup this weekend, I propose an open ended discussion on anything and everything Spurs related. Whatever takes your fancy. I'll kick-off with this simple question: Do we have the potential to challenge for the PL title next season? Don't laugh..

As we always say .. next year will be our year.... spurs will win the league /FA cup / Champions League qualifying...
Block D Spurs
Secondly.. we will be in top 3 of PL...
Block D Spurs
Thirdly, spurs will win Euro League ..
Block D Spurs
That little hatrick just about covers what we say every year..
Block D Spurs
"Block"ed u from getting the first 5! :-)
jefferyhyde
As a back up.. we will beat / finish above Arsenal next year...
Block D Spurs
Damn jefferyhyde,,, i was on a roll there.... lol
Block D Spurs
Agree though, top 3 is within our grasp next year. If we had a few better showings when avb was in charge that's where we would be sitting now. Looking back now, avb's historic second win at old Trafford doesn't look that impressive anymore. I honestly believe if Timmy boy had been the manager from the start, with the way he has ade playing, we would have truly contended this year.
jefferyhyde
Trying for Norwich Spurs sequential posts record.. if anyone remembers that ?.. but my posts are accurate, as we spurs fans are the eternal optimists
Block D Spurs
Haha sorry to bust up your streak man, all the great ones have to lose at some point!
jefferyhyde
ManOn...what do you mean "next season" we are on a roll and can win this season! Very surprised at such defeatism from you!
jacobslad
MAN ON ... This will make an interesting thread. Well done! I think we can be as optimistic for next season as we have been for the last 3 or 4 seasons. That is a good thing because we really have had, and still do have, good reason to be optimistic for our club's future. Not too many clubs have supporters that can say that! COYS!
Geofspurs
No worries jeff.. at least you said i was a great poster.. lol
Block D Spurs
Next year out new stadium will be almost finished, and then we will have 56,000 + cheering on our players.. As coopsie said recently 2017 (2016 / 2917 season) is the year of the rooster.. we will win something that year..
Block D Spurs
typo...our new stadium...
Block D Spurs
Man on (and Ox..) .. got your article responses started.. :-)
Block D Spurs
When you see post on other clubs Vital sites there are no where near the responses we have, the most you ever see is 4 of 5 and normally one of us have posted? Any ideas why or are we eternal optimists also the best supporters?
Supayid
I think we will have the potential, if we can keep the squad together and improve on it, but I don't think we will win it. Maybe in a season or two we WILL be challenging for it as we will be able to attract and keep better players due to our CL status
chrishove123
What would be good, is Levy making a mission statement at end of the season, say exactly the way Joe Lewis & Daniel Levy are taking spurs, and their commitment to this strategy. Then we can all be in unison, and follow the club knowing the owners are doing what they believe is best for the club, and ultimately their financial investment thereof.
Block D Spurs
Of course we'll win the League if not the CL as well !!! We have a great squad and with the right buys and the right combination we will surely win it - I thought we were gonna do it this year when I was convinced that GB was going to stay…. COYMS!!!!
Highgatespur
Yje other blog about the B ;league has an error can anyone fix it please ?
Highgatespur
Highgatespur I was convinced he'd stay as well. Just goes to show how little we really know about what is going on behind the scenes.
chrishove123
Go for glory... GO TIMAAHHHHHH!!!! Top four this year please and in the hunt for the title next. If Arsenal and Liverpool and in the hunt this year WE can def be in the hunt next... Townsend back and we're world beaters
willfry
Hear hear to Block D
Highgatespur
Anyone know / hear the latest of the long awaited new stadium ?
Highgatespur
always dreaming and hoping it will be the year the best fans in the world see the team captain lift some silver over his head to hear the roar that has been built up over these maybe years.coys
bazdog
Yup Chrishove I thought all was leading up to GB giving us one more year ! We should've signed David Villa…. ah well past is past…the present squad is ace just look how well they've done despite all the crap around them !
Highgatespur
new owners who put silver before cash is what we really need to become the best as enic have been great but have always come up that little bit short in delivering success on the pitch.
bazdog
I thought the investment of 100 m plus would have been enough to let the supporters know that ENIC care about results and success as well. Levy has put his money where his mouth is this season, backed a young manager and given him plenty of cash. It's a shame he spent only half of it wisely and then got sacked. Long live the king

For the last 5/6 seasons we have been in the mix at some stage during the season. Usually falling away at the end. I don't think the next one will be much different but I hope it can just last for the whole season for a change. COYS

Since it is an open ended article (well done Man On for submitting it), I want to bring an issue from last (Newcastle) match...

On match days I usually read ALL the posts (pre, mid and post match) but due to other commitments, didn't get round to. During our previous matches, MOST wanted to see Dawson and Bentelab dropped. Then lo-be-hold, Dawson is sacrificed for Kaboul and Capoue for Eriksen. At the time, I said to my partner, the forum will be buzzing with excitement with these changes. The team to me looked VERY good and the result proved it.

After the match I read ALL the posts on the match day article and was disappointed to note some posters bewildered by the changes and expressed 'serious concerns'. In my opinion (pre-match mode), I was delighted that TS had considered those changes and my gawd, did it pay off handsomely!

Despite me being a bit skeptical of TS's appointment, he is winning me over and I am proud enough to be nibbling at my slice of humble pie. Why can't some other posters do the same. Premature criticism (pre-match) to euphoria (post match) imo, should accompany honesty in admitting poor pre-judgement.

Look, the real point I am trying to make with this is that popular forums such as Vital generally express the feelings/moods of fans and when the media 'quote' the fans, they are relying on what the concensus on the forums and in general is.

TS has done commendably well thus far, albeit, not so in the cups, but IMO, he deserves the support based on what he has achieved during his relatively short tenure. Use the forum to speak out loud the GOOD things (not just the bad) so that the message indirectly gets relayed to the Players, Coaches and the management. COYS and hope EL is taken very seriously.
Critical_Spur
Our usual home form would have ensures a league challenge this season, is my answer to the opening question. The fact we're quite close to the top (and have been for a few years) without handouts also shows how well were run. It's also no secret that we outspend most of the Premier clubs so to be any lower than where we are would be seen as under-achieving. For one or two extra things going our way, we can certainly keep even closer to the big boys. 3 games from the top! The most unlikely spin-off to the question is Tim winning the league with Spurs in his first full year. 3 improbables becoming a probable. And yet I can't yet rule out that he won't be worth keeping. I'm impressed with his ability to get a response from the players, and the knack of getting results when not even playing well. He seems to have great player-insight. A few mentioning that him having played has helped when advising them . Big, big lines to read between. The glaringly obvious aim at AVB almost overshadowing the TS feature. Can we win the league next year? If TS learned all KD taught him, surely it's possible?
jerkinmahjurgen
It was a baffling line-up when it came out, Critical. I didn't have a clue how they would line up at first - I guess assumed Dembele left Lennon right - even got that wrong. lol. Good game but they could've scored5 tbh, so we're still only going at the painful pace of one game at a time with regards to finding out whether it's gonna work or not. I like the guy and his handicap (lack of experience) is counter-balanced by his leadership qualities. To captain Blackburns bank-rolled signings, to a title, has cred.
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, As long as TS keeps making the necessary changes and they bear rewards, he will continue to gain support. In that game I would've liked to have seen Soldado come on a little earlier. really need him to start scoring to avoid being reliant on Ade all the time. I'd like him to also address the HOME support issue. A performance like the one against Newcastle would go a long way in remedying that. COYS! BTW, does anyone think that Friedel will get the nod ahead of Lloris in the EL....include Dawson in that mix too?
Critical_Spur
Jerk, i thought the line up was a big surprise when i saw it against newcastle, but all managers make decisions which baffle fans. I wonder how newcastle fans felt with such a weakened side out and Pardew decided to put their biggest game changer on the bench in Ben Arfa. They were awful and for parts of the game we were good, net result 0-4. Norwich away will be very tough after Ukraine in the spoon and Norwich have played well in their last two games and are desperate, a win up there and we are truly in the mix, but as big C FANNY says March is where it will be pretty much decided for us top4. I just wonder if Arsenal could implode....ish...shame they drew Bayern and might well only have two CL games left.
tophobunty1882
We need the top4 to draw their cup games this weekend. Pile the fixtures up. So many top clashes coming up - especially for the ars. They could well struggle. Newcastle have been criticized for their performance but if clinical could've powered into a two nil lead. But our players... if they're not quick they're powerful - they've all got something and when we press high and hard and show application, we can stop teams. Pardew wasn't happy so they clearly didn't fight as well as he thinks they can, but I still more saw them getting stopped by us. Depleted. The momentum has started. Winning at Norwich would be a good sign that TS can keep that going. coys cots 821
jerkinmahjurgen
I was a bit puzzled to see Eriksen instead of Bentaleb out for Capoue…. bur=t learned a long time ago I'm one of 50,000 managers who don't count! I think a great home win would do the trick but there are a few other things that's causing disaffection… the lack of info re the stadium, stub hub the yiddo issue and possibly the promise of GB not being sold… I think we've the strongest squad for many years but the whole thing hinges on how we build on it… was impressed with Chadl's espouse to being loaned out to Swansea… Watching the citeh game on itv - how awful is the commentary?!!! Finally COYMS!!!
Highgatespur
Critical - the way I think of it, you used the wrong word in "dropped". A lot of us wanted Bentaleb and Dawson rotated or rested. There's been times when I would have dropped Dawson but for the Newcastle game it was definitely a case of rotating and giving Kaboul a chance. Dawson has been very wobbly at times but had put together back to back performances before that game. As for Bentaleb it was definitely a case of rotation to ensure that we keep Capoue involved and match fit. As it happens it was Eriksen who was rested and I'm fine with that. I think we all need to appreciate we have a very talented squad and rotation of any player should be expected to keep things fresh and set the team up for the opposition we're playing. We should forget that word "dropped" unless someone has had a howler like Soldado has recently. Then it's fair.
muttley
This is interesting "“Following a statement on the official website of the FAF , Nabil Bentaleb will be part of the list of players selected to play in the face Slovenia on March 5. The president of the FAF Raouraoua today met Tottenham and handed regulatory commitment that demonstrates its commitment to play for the colors of Algeria country of his parents. Nabil will be summoned to the next training camp of the national team on March 1 for the friendly match against Slovenia. It will even organized a press conference in Algiers as it was done for Faouzi Ghoulam when he joined the greens." Looks like we'll be able to watch Bentaleb in the world cup.
muttley
Value halved overnight.
tophobunty1882
ps sounds a bit like he's a slave.
tophobunty1882
Happy that Bentaleb has chosen the country of his parents. It would have been better for him financially to have chosen France (or even England), so to turn that down is a good sign the boy's head's on straight (he'd look silly otherwise)

That African Nations Cup is supposed to aligned with the Euros ? Did I misread that somewhere ?
Highgatespur
i agree what you say about the lad himself inspurs...but i really care about spurs and the african nations cup sucks, until they bring it inline with the rest of the footballing world it will be a huge pain in the butt
tophobunty1882
tophobunty1882, when he goes off to the African cup, it just means that there is an opportunity for someone else to cement their place in the starting eleven. We've got a big squad so we should be able to cope.
In-spurs-ational
At present we are 1 point behind our points to date last year and 1 point ahead of similar games played (same/similar team, location) last year. As others have said, our final position will depend on how we finish the last 12 games. We would need to take at least 4 from Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool but 6 would be a sure entry into CL. I feel that we can win all the other games and should.

With Kaboul seemingly back and having played very well against Newcastle, I feel our defense will be very solid and our midfield can be flexible depending on whom we play against. What we need is for Soldado to begin producing.
jvd
wouldn't sign any players who needed time off mid season sorry in-spurs
tophobunty1882
tophobunty1882, no need to apologise. if we all thought the same, this forum would be really boring
In-spurs-ational
Great analysis jvd very insightful … how close are we ? imagine where we would be if no problems at the club…. I'm with topho with the signing of any players who go missing mid season - look at Adebayor when he went off… mind you it depends on the talented - we've just signed a talented player from Nigeria. We just need to have a great squad as we have now !
Highgatespur
You've only got to lose one or two key players and it will show. You get enough surprises without adding this to the equation, so I agree it's a risk to do this and there are usually options to recruit without this hurdle, so take them if you can. This very reason may see the acn fall in-line with Europe, because they rightly don't want to miss out on good wonga. And wonga talks. In our current scenario we'd be without Ade, and we all know what that's been like. If it were Paulinho, we've other midfielders around a similar level to cover - that may not be so bad, and is important criteria to consider when deciding whether to sign an African. I mean you can't turn your nose up at top, top players? I'd certainly make a worthwhile allowance to the general rule.
jerkinmahjurgen
^^^That's all shullbit but I find life so much easier when you agree with everyone:)
jerkinmahjurgen
I can't even agree with myself.....
MAN ON!
Yes I can!
MAN ON!
It's a bloody bore when we don't get to play. I suppose the lads get a well earned rest. Some tough matches ahead.
MAN ON!
Personally, judging by our present position and the crazy season so far, I think we could well be in contention for the title next season. We've not really got going yet in this one and, as I keep trying to convince myself, surely we have a lot more room for improvement. I also see top 4 as a realistic goal this year and if we can continue with some consistency in our performances it might turn out to be a season we can be happy with. Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
March is a crucial month......
MAN ON!
Haha! Man On. And I agree. Would LOVE to be having a fixture crisis over these endless days without a match. I know we're a long shot but is 3 games away from top with 12 to play not challenging? Enjoy the noise of the fat lady whilst you can. She don't sing forever.
jerkinmahjurgen
Forgetting the teams at the top there is only 4 points separating Sunderland at 18th and Swansea in 10th position. So almost any team we play now is either fighting for survival or top 5. So there'll be some more shock results to come this season and it'll be a difficult one to call at both ends of the table. It should be one hell of a run-in.
MAN ON!
You've equaled Block D's consecutive post count. You were doing well 'till I slid in unnoticed, getting the ball. :P
jerkinmahjurgen
If we win the league we'll be so unprepared for it. But we struggle to hire a bus and are wondering where the f do Chas and Dave live?
jerkinmahjurgen
Bet* we struggle
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, I had a tiny wager at the start of the season that we would be champions. Hey, anything's possible. Not likely, but not impossible. It still could be a season to remember. But gambling only pays when your winning..... I never win!
MAN ON!
I know, the celebrations would be the death of me....
MAN ON!
Do a Fergie. Get out while you can. Call it a day.
jerkinmahjurgen

Our record speaks for itself under Tim - right up there with the top bunch. If he can keep them going... We may have just found the clucking futch. He's got something about him, ole Timmy. Did you see him in that interview where he done that strange neck movement, turning to the side as he did so, then 'snapped' out f it, like he's just regained consciousnesses, then carried on like it was the tv playing up? Reminded me of Quantum Leap. He's gotta win the league to progress... Or maybe he's a shape-shifter?
jerkinmahjurgen
Maybe he was passing wind?
jerkinmahjurgen
Only if we didn't lose those stupid games!!! I do really it's possible next year =- thought it was this year till those heavy defeats...
Highgatespur
I reckon that mulesteen and Wilkins got the push because of the smile/joke on the touchline with the fourth official vs Manu…. your thoughts Curbishley wasn't there… American sporting values...
Highgatespur
Man on, I think you've just found a way of winning the league. You never win a bet do you? Please put a sizeable bet on Spurs not winning the league this year. While you're at it, bet that we won't win the Europa as well.
In-spurs-ational
In-spurs-ational... I should do that. If we win the PL or EL, I owe you all a fiver. If we do win something the drinks are on you.....
MAN ON!
jerkinmahjurgen, Some say Tim's the new 'Arry. Looks like he's gonna develop the same twitches as him. He needs to stop hanging out with the Redknapp family.
MAN ON!
No problem Man On. I'll get the drinks in. So long as the total bill doesn't come to more than £1.97. Go on, I'll splash out, make it two quid
In-spurs-ational
Yes Tim is the new Harry. He'll get us fourth and then get sacked
In-spurs-ational
Cheers, you're more than generous...
MAN ON!
If he does get us top 4 and is fired he would be an unlucky Tim. It wouldn't surprise me though.
MAN ON!
Honestly, I really can't see a scenario where Tim is our manager next season. That's not saying he isn't a good manager - he's only had a handful of games - but I think Levy wants a "big name". Tim is only three letters
In-spurs-ational
I think it depends what type of executive Levy is and how he judges his staff. Some footballers look average in the lower levels but when they get a chance at the higher level they look more comfortable there. It is the same in management. Sometime, the candidate that gets the job is the one with the most qualifications. Other times it's the one that interviews the best. Sometimes it's the more junior guy that comes from the existing team and can elevate themselves above their peers. The thing is, you don't know until you put them in the firing line whether they will sink or swim. Tim is 100% in the firing line and he hasn't drowned yet, in fact he looks very comfortable at this level. All we can do is leave him there a while longer and observe.
muttley
Just continuing from what I said earlier about our home form and the support.....

An interesting Opta stat perhaps goes some way in answering the root of the problem (?)...

Tottenham have not scored in the opening 15 minutes of a Premier League game since April 27th 2013 - nearly 10 months ago."

Well, we came close against Newcastle (19 mins). Score first and early help gets the confidence flowing and eases nerves on the terraces. If we can shake off the lethargic starts that we have become synonymous with, then I am sure we can get our 'White Fort Lane' back!. COYS!

Good point about not signing players who are destined to miss part of the season. But, what about international players and the chance of injury when playing for their country. Follow this argument to it's logical (or illogical) conclusion and it would be stupid to sign any top player. I think we should collect the best squad we can and make the most of it!
Geofspurs
Have to admit I agree with the last 7 posts! :-)

italian media reporting ceare prandelli has accepted terms to be our next manager?
ghulamville
Good morning all. Surely that's just media bull about Prandelli.
MAN ON!
apparently baldini has recommended him

They must be having their April Fools' practice run. A pleasant surprise that Tim is keeping our away form good as well. And I've no doubt he'll get us going at home. I know we can only take things a game at a time but at this point I'd be disappointed and extremely surprised if Tim doesn't start next season. Of course it could all go Pete Tong so the club has to keep it's ear to the ground and sound possibilities out, therefor the rumors will continue. Geof, 8 consecutive posts is on a par with vvanking. Pack it in.
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, if Tim isn't our manager next season, you may well be disappointed. However, I don't think any of us would really be surprised. Even if we win the league this season, sacking Tim would not surprise me. What would surprise me is if we finish eighth and Tim doesn't get the sack

jerkinmahjurgen
I've just read that we could be getting rid of Baldini. But then again the press are inclined to make stuff up..... I'll start another rumour today..... It's been suggested that Spurs Chairman, Daniel Levy is to step down from his post and, Sir Elton John is set to take over. The "Rocket Man" is said to be "over the moon" and can't wait for what will be "a great opportunity to take Spurs to the next level". Graham Taylor is known to be his preferred choice in taking over the role as Head Coach. He will replace the title winning Tim Sherwood in a coup that will reunite the two former Watford favourites. This could see a return to a footballing love affair that will have the Tottenham faithful dancing with joy in the streets of N17. Tell Me When The Whistle Blows, Daniel. Because The Bitch is Back!
MAN ON!
Posts at the top stating about us winning the league next season. Biggest chance we'll have of that is by securing top 4 and champs league qualification this season. I don't want to go down the "Selling our best players" route. But if Lloris, Verts and Paulinho want out and we are offered big money once more, surely there can only be one outcome?.

League winning teams are built on continuity, something Spurs seldom have when it comes to keeping our best talent. With a couple of upgrades in the right departments do i think we have a team capable of winning the league?, yes, most certainly, but only if we can keep our best players and add the 2-3 real quality types we are missing. If we sell, yet again, "Gelling" raises it's ugly head once more.

Seeming we've got the talent here already....I suggest we win the league this year, few to come back, and only now just starting to look the business. We smash it up in March after winning our remaining fixtures in Feb, we have to be considered. Don't we?.

Keep Kaboom fit, defence looks strong(usual questions regarding Rose and Walker aside). Midfield, well chuffed, again very powerful and sorted. Would like some balance out Left, maybe a run for Townsend. That leaves Lennon?, not sure of late, maybe a front 3 with Lamela off the Right. Need Ade to keep fit and Soldado to finally start scoring. Maybe Chadli will have found a little more confidence, although i understand one goal will not maketh a man i still stand by my opinion that if you play him in the hole, he will score you goals. He has a very accurate shot of both feet. In summary, keep those who have returned fit, those who are scoring, continuing and those due back or under achieving to bring the level up and i then honestly believe we have enough to finish top 3. A season plagued by injuries, and behind the scenes problems and we are right in it still, if those who have not featured as much as they should have or not performed to the levels that saw us sign them, if we can get them going for the last dozen games, we'll smash it up. We've got the talent, let's get them unleashing it. As Geof stated, i get the feeling Arsenal are just about to go of the boil, looking like a few questions are being asked, and Ozil factor is now in decline. Be rude not to take advantage of our nomadic friends.
Cider spurs
Of course it's on the cards that after the Newcastle match and all the positivity that followed it, Chris Hughton will steer Norwich to a famous victory over his old team. I wish you well Chris and you're one of my favourite old-timers, but please save the battle for another rainy day.
MAN ON!
I hope what Geof and Cider write is true about the Gooners. I can also see it happening. If we can improve on our last performance and it really is finally coming together then yes, top 3 is possible. Our Spurs team is definitely capable of beating anyone on a good day.
MAN ON!
Cider, you have to accept players will move on. Even from giant clubs never-mind ours. The key is to have a good recruitment policy and trainers. I think our recruiting has been excellent for a few years and our youngsters' progress suggests our coaches aren't too bad either. We've every right to expect our summer signings to stay another year, although Jan and Lloris have been here slightly longer and should they wish to move on it'll be difficult to keep them - not impossible - to stretch another year from them, but not at the expense of harmony. You just have to offset the loses, and we often do.
jerkinmahjurgen
Okay....I touched on this the other day with Highgate (not many posting at the time so i'll raise again). As of next season the eventual winners of the Europa League qualify for the champs league( not sure if you have to play pre-qualifier). So, on that basis, if we fail to get top 4, do you want 5th, knowing that there is the champs league carrot to be considered?, or, do you see it as a distraction and could it be argued that is why Liverpool are performing so well just because of this fact. Players fresh, less chance of injury etc. Myself, i love seeing Spurs play regardless of what competition, but i do wish the format would change. So much travelling for such little reward, maybe now champs league opportunity if champions has helped to promote the Europa, but all the far flung games, Thursday/Sunday scenario and then a Champs league drop-out is installed as a favourite. Any thoughts?.
Cider spurs
Cider Spurs, good morning, that's what I exactly mean by building on our strengths - we've got to start keep our best players and bring in higher quality… surely some one at the higher echelons of the club must realise...

I am a little concerned that the EL will hamper our progress in the league but, if Tim can get his rotation working well and players stay fit we could be strong contenders to finish well in both comps. I'll not be too disappointed if we finish 5th but will be a very happy Spud if we win the EL. We have to fight for success in both. The supporters deserve our teams full commitment.
MAN ON!
jerk...It may have come across wrong. I totally get the buying and selling scenario, and do not buy into the "we shouldn't have sold him" waffle regarding the likes of Modric, Bale and Berbatov. It's the nature of the beast, something that will always be. My point was merely that i feel we would have a real chance next season with a couple of additions providing we can keep the current talent also. Yes at times it appears we seldom keep our top talent, but this is usually down to the player as opposed to the club, something i maybe should have clarified a little more.
Cider spurs
Cider for me it always been 4th or 8th and i just cant get past that, i have little enthusiasm for this ukraine trip thursday, big a big feeling for the away game at norwich. equally i know I will be interested in this thursday damnation if we reach the semi's, i doubt we will. but at the cost of CL no way. someone published our results on the sunday after an away trip in this thing over 2 or more years and it was awful. the club will get nothing from winning this to help its future, nothing when compared to 4th and being in the CL. obviously 3rd is better.
tophobunty1882
Unlike the most of the posts I dread scoring early goals … it used always mean we'd hardly ever win … however I do like it when when we score in the 15-30 mins section. Someone must remember those days of scoring early goals= wrong result ?
Highgatespur
Geofspurs I have been following the cricket, astounding bowling from MJ and the batting WOW…. Is it all a confidence trick by Lehmann as he has turned it all around in no time at all…?
Highgatespur
Highgate...Morning. Yes, agreed, it appears some sort of cycle needs to be broken. That is when the "Money" issue really does come into the equation. I'm not suggesting we don'r reinvest the monies from sales of our best players, we do, but we need investment to add the same quality of top player to those whom are already at the club without having to sell. The only way to do this i feel is to somehow secure a one off big investment of new money into the club solely for the purpose of upgrading the "lesser talent". This should then allow the already quality talent to feel part of a truly grand team as opposed to being the 1 or 2 big fish that make the team. Obviously the allure of other big clubs has to be factored in, but maybe these big clubs are only the power because of the exact scenario i am describing, namely retaining the best talent and adding 1 or 2 along the way whilst bringing in some unearted gems in for the future at a cheaper cost to offset natural wastage by way of retirements etc. All IMO of course, but if we wish to keep the best, we have to add the best. That takes money, usually money we only can generate by selling the best. So the cycle starts.
Cider spurs
Like Cider I think our present squad can do it - just leave the majority of the team for Sunday behind like they are doing this time around; EA and Walker are not travelling… I reckon the more exposure we get the better it is for the club… L'pool success (?) this year is not just the lack of EL it's also due to the chemistry they've built up...
Highgatespur
tophobunty1882, I get what you're saying but for me it's the sheer number of games that is wrong with the Europa and, as Cider points out, all the far flung journeys made to the back of beyond. We should however be strong enough to cope with the squad we have.
MAN ON!
I am ignoring all the cries of a slump elsewhere and just concentrating on spurs winning against all before them… we've fallen too many times before at rejoicing well before time and depending on others…. lets wait for the fat lady to sing… PLEASE
Highgatespur
Cider ... If we have a good squad we are going to need the EL to keep them all matchfit, healthy and happy ... that's assuming we don't finish in the top four. Mind you, what happens when we win the EL and finish 3rd in the PL this season ... do we get to play in both European competitions?!!
Geofspurs
Highgate...She's clearing her throat. ;-)
Cider spurs
Nice one Geofspurs maybe we could nominate one of our closest for the EL!!!
Highgatespur
......Unlike the lack of commitment from teams like Southampton in the FA cup. That could be due to the fact of them not selling a lot of tickets for the away support at the Sunderland game. Tottenham however are virtually sold out for every match and our fans continue to support in large numbers wherever we play and in all competitions.
MAN ON!
Do we have the potential to challenge for the PL title next season? Of course Tottenham will have a chance to win the Premiership title next season! But not if anymore of the clubs best players are sold by Levy! The board will have to keep the clubs KEY players and actually INVEST some money into the team for the first time since Harry was given the funds to save the club from relegation in 2008. Since then not a penny has been spent on the team! All players bought since have been purchased from the sales of players. If Levy/Lewis invest the 100 million they DID NOT invest in the team last summer, which would buy 3 to 4 world class players, then yes the title will be up for grabs! But knowing Levy and Lewis for 14 seasons now, it is much most likely they will not invest this summer and will sell more KEY players so that Levy can play more Fantasy Football recycle cash games in his THFC auction house, which will disrupt the team yet again and will result in the top 4 being the clubs focus of ambition yet again...
Pele10
Highgate ... You're dead right about MJ's bowling. The batting's not bad either. 1-0 in a three test series has to be a great start!! Right again about how quickly things have turned around under Lehmann.
Geofspurs
Hope so Ciderspurs - seems to be the right time for good ole rendition of 'Oh when the Spurs ….'
Highgatespur
As for Walker not travelling....That LW Konoplyanka tore him a new one when he lined up against him for England. No need to knock his confidence.
Cider spurs
Pele10... You forgot the last bit Pele. ;-) Something about being OUT!
MAN ON!
Naughton can do a job on him. Rose could do with being rested too.
MAN ON!
Bentaleb at left back? Tim will want to fit him in somewhere.
MAN ON!
I'm off to work. Can someone please start a fight. It's all far too cosy on here. Enjoy your Sunday all. Up the Spurs and sod all the rest!
MAN ON!
ManOn! Can't really understand Soton's approach - a good Cup run may have enticed the good ones to stay on beyond the summer… Love being part of the away support - it's like a forum… It was brilliant to see Spurs folks in the freezing cold and in the driving snow in depths of Moldova - wonder how many going to the Ukraine?!
Highgatespur
Pele...Your post is not too dis-similar to mine. Thing being, some of the players actually wanted to leave, a hard thing to take i know, but factual nonetheless. As for the investment, yes i agree it is required, but for whatever reason, Joe Lewis chooses to keep his finances at arms length concerning Spurs. This however is his choice, and this is when the drama starts. Is it really comprehendable to expect champs league football season on season when the club will not invest any new monies?, i suggest not, which makes me accept champs league as a bonus as opposed to a certainty, we have un-realistic objectives when considering the business model IMO. On a closing note, was there not talk of Joe Lewis helping out financially by way of loan or investment with the stadium build?. Maybe he does part with some of his wedge...Who knows?.
Cider spurs
MAN ON! "Something about being OUT"? Do you mean Levy being OUT of the FA Cup yet? ;-)
Pele10
Start a fight?! No worries MAN ON ..... ETHNIC IN!!
Geofspurs
Geofspurs - all this recovery is making a mockery of the plans being sounded by the England team at the moment. I like the mentality of the Aussie captain and the key players…. true leaders..
Highgatespur
I can't see Bentaleb playing on Thursday and Sunday (if he does he's Super-Kid). So the team for Thursday will tell us if TS considers him a main player for the first team, or if he's going to spread him around a bit.
Geofspurs
Oh dear Cider Spurs - can Naughton do any better ? Can't remember that though … new investment is needed desperately - maybe new investors be called if Lewis is not willing… time is getting closer I feel when we have to succumb to a sugar daddy - god forbid !!
Highgatespur
Before I go.... Dawson is King. Kaboul is not top 4 quality. Bring back AVB. Harry for England. Bentaleb out! Get yourself together Soldado. Stay fit Ade. Is Tim the new Billy Nick? COYS!
MAN ON!
look at it another way. we are asking our squad to make a journey to a country and back, over one assumes a 3 day period which is not in europe to play in a european competition on days which would normally be 100% focussed on training to get a win away from home in the prem the following weekend. If we draw thursday and lose Sunday how will we all feel? i cant see how this thursday thing can be in any way helpful in driving us forward as a club in a very very tough business.
tophobunty1882
Fenchurch St Pele.
tophobunty1882
Kabuol fit is top 4 quality Manon I dont see any of the top 4 he would not walk into if fully fit. i mean starting 11.
tophobunty1882
Can someone tell me what Fryers is like and if he has a part to play in the great scheme of things. I really don't know too much about him?!
Geofspurs
Highgate...Stadium completed and i'm expecting to see a parting of ways regarding Spurs and Enic. That does not mean a new owner will suddenly invest heavily in the club, might even decide to strip it back and send us back to a dark void. That's the thing, whilst ENIC are not taking us to the next level rapidly, we have improved, maybe to the point that we have peaked under their tenure( i think we have), but there is no guarantees the new owners will lead us to utopia. As for Sugar daddy, inevitable in the end really i believe. FFP will have a say, but as most things in life, it all comes down to those who have money, and those who do not. Maybe we hold onto the thought of our club "Doing it the right way" all too often because we don't get to see the World class players signed season on season, maybe it's our trump card when arguing the toss. I'd have no problem if Joe chose to sign us, Cavani, Aguero and Falcao, sprinkled with a bit of Messi and sorted the Left out with Ronaldo. Does that mean i've sold out?, i don't think it does anymore, because more and more clubs are being operated this way. Rightly or wrongly, it's the way it is. The positive for us at this precise time however, is the fact we are not the nouveau riche type fans, we've followed and supported when on a strict financial budget and never waivered or turned to the current big spenders to satisfy our hunger for titles and the glory that comes with it. So IMO, we've earnt the right to spend some wedge, with whoms chequebook, i know not.
Cider spurs
Cider ... I'm afraid you may be right. There's a lot of things far more important than money ... the reality is that most people can't afford them!
Geofspurs
Topho - I think if we use our squad in an intelligent way it will do us good… Let's say decide on the first team for Sunday now: say it's Lloris, Walker Rose Vertoghen Kaboul, Paulinho Dembele Eriksen Capoe Lennon and EA subs: selection from Thursday night…. leave them ALL behind to train and follow the normal routine; The side to play on Thursday would be Friedel Naughton Fryers Veljkovic Dawson Sigurdson Townsend Chadli Bentaleb Defoe Soldado subs: Development squad Not the exact combination we could do it - look at Athletico Madrid… Thoughts?
Highgatespur
Cider spurs, Yes our posts are on the same wave length. And yes it's true when you say "Joe Lewis chooses to keep his finances at arms length concerning Spurs." And there is the biggest flaw of Joe Lewis owning THFC. He has the vast wealth to invest in the team but is not doing so? As for the your saying "was there not talk of Joe Lewis helping out financially by way of loan or investment with the stadium build?" Yes I heard talk of that on here from several posters, but this has not been announced officially by THFC. 14 Joe Lewis seasons in, the finance for the stadium has still not been raised, and no start date for building works to begin. The only thing the club has announced officially regarding the funding of the stadium is from THFC director Sir Keith Mills who announced last summer, "The new stadium can only go ahead when £350m funding is secured. To do that, the club need to sell the naming rights. “We don’t have that in place and that’s an integral part of the financing,” says Mills. “Once we get that, it’ll open up the rest of the funding.” Not a word mentioned there about Joe Lewis funding or loaning the club a penny to build the new stadium...
Pele10
Geof, neither does anybody else sadly , he was poorly used by AVB esp in this thursday spoon thing, there have been enough games this season to give us the answer you seek but poor management has let us down on this one.
tophobunty1882
Cider; Interesting thought on the players you mentioned, by the time our stadium get's built, joe lewis will be dead and the players will be retired.
spu 4 life
highgate agree 100%, problem is AVB was very unintelligent in his approach to the spoon, esp when you consider the fodder we faced this season in the group stage. To a degree this changes in the knock stages, so i think we have missed the boat this season, but i think you are dead right here.
tophobunty1882
Cider Spurs - another good point _ I am one of them holding out but we couldn't beat them so it's time to jon them ! There are no guarantees but "to dare is to do"… FFP I think will never materialise the way it's been sold… also contentious here I also think that the y word debate has something to do with it … one thing for sue the club can't remain on this rate of growth / improvement for much longer… COYMS !!!!
Highgatespur
Thanks topho ... I guess we'll have to wait and see but I hope he gets a chance to show us what he's got soon.
Geofspurs
Geof, my gut on his does suggest right place right time and he will be a good player at least.
tophobunty1882
spu 4 life, interesting point about Joe Lewis dying before the stadium get's built. What would happen to THFC if Lewis were to die? I guess the main beneficiary of his will would decide the clubs future...
Pele10
Topho - nothing is too late - it's the away leg this time - the players are good enough surely to stay in the tie …all have been involved in the 1st team bar 2 of them - I say go for it - as it goes I'll be proved totally wrong by Timmy … I agree with you 3 points v Norwich is imperative. Surely the long trips are coming to end - Benfica next if we get through ? Lets hope for the best …. COYMS
Highgatespur
Geofspurs - in the limited appearances he has had, he looked ok - totally underused but worth the shot … is familiar at LB or CB … should be given a chance imo.
Highgatespur
Man on.. try not to wind up Pele 10.. he is making an effort on the context of his posts.. :-)
Block D Spurs
Block ... Totally agree. His contributions have been well worth reading. In fact, I nominate Pele as 'Most improved Poster of the Week'. Seriously!
Geofspurs
Pele10 That is what I said earlier, only I didn't use so many words. LOL See mate when you don't go off on a rant about your two pet hates, you do put up good intelligent posts, so stop with the bashing and carry on with the good stuff please. :) Oh and in reference to Lewis dying and it being beneficial to the club, please don't go out and put a hilt on him as you have already mentioned his death on here and it would look a tad suspicious. LOL
chrishove123
I'll settle for The Europa League. Alongside The Premier League. It's not a given it will cost us 4th. Not a given we'll finish 4th if we get knocked straight out. I find it odd trying to measure stuff like that. Make ultimatums. Win your next game. I'd love us to win the EL and I think Tim will take it seriously. And if you want to win, you put your best team out. We can make a few changes, a couple not traveling apparently and maybe still rest someone who is traveling and look to bring others off after 60 mins. But really you need 5 to 7 of your core out there and be able to have 2 to 4 1st teamers fresh for the weekend. You're expected to be able to play 2 games a week at this and higher levels. Makes not a sheets bit of difference whether it's Wed/Sat Thur/Sun imo. £90,000 a week? If we've got a game on Doomsday, then get out there and start kicking that ball. Play to win. No exceptions. OMG I sound like Ray Wilkins!
jerkinmahjurgen
Highgate...here you go, takes a few seconds to load. Think we'll get a good look at Naughton's credentials on Thursday night when he faces up to this lad....http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/456740/VIDEO-Watch-Liverpool-target-Yevhen-Konoplyanka-terrorise-Spurs-star-Kyle-Walker

Ray, er, I mean Jerk .... We can go for it on Thursday because there is no pressure on us for Sunday ... it's an away game!!
Geofspurs
Pele....geofspurs called you an imposter......You taking that?.
Cider spurs
chrishove123, Who mentioned Joe Lewis dying being beneficial to the club? Those were your words not mine! I just asked the simple question of what would happen to THFC if Joe Lewis were to die in response to spu 4 life writing "by the time our stadium get's built, joe lewis will be dead and the players will be retired." Clearer for you now?
Pele10
My mistake.....improved poster, i thought he proved you were an imposter.
Cider spurs
I thought the weather was bad here in Blighty....you seen the weather at the Winter Olympics.....B/oody snow everywhere i tell ya'. Unbelievable!.
Cider spurs
Jerkin.. Ray wilkins looks like he just left the Adams Family house... Uncle Fester anyone ??... lol
Block D Spurs
Cider ... I did not say Pele was really Levy in disguise!

Pele ... Joe Lewis dying does pose some interesting questions ... especially how long it would take to sort it all out.
Geofspurs
pele..Along with other's i too feel your posts have become much more refreshing to read whilst still allowing yourself to put the same point of view across. Totally your choice in how you wish to put across your opinions, that i will respect, but i am liking the new style for what it's worth. PELE IN!. ;-)
Cider spurs
Cider ... Did you expect the Winter Olympics be sunny?!
Geofspurs
So poor old Joe dies, we complete the stadium, and as a mark of respect we name one of the new stands the Joe Lewis memorial stand. Yep, the very one Pele has a season ticket for. OH, the irony. ;-)
Cider spurs
Geof...just my infantile humour. As we've conversed before, hopefully you and i will grow out of it.....Maybe ;-)
Cider spurs
pele has murdered lewis?
tophobunty1882
As for do i expect it to be sunny?.....Only when it's nightime.
Cider spurs
Inspector Morse isn't gonna' like that!.
Cider spurs
As the point of when Joe'e demise happens.. i can chat to my ITK, if any arrangements are in place. I'm sure there is, as he would not be a UK tax haven resident in Bahamas and not make plans for his financial holdings / estate.
Block D Spurs
Pele has improved the way in which he puts his posts across, my problem is the manipulation of facts and points to echo his statements. there is no balance, his expectations are unrealistic and his ludicrous blaming of problems such as injuries on enic makes anything he does write unbearable at times. its not that he doesn't make some good points its that they are often clouded by his overwhelming hatred of enic and put across in a way that's more anti spurs than an arsenal fan
spurticus87
Cider ... The day I lose my infantile sense of humour, I'm pulling the plug! :-)
Geofspurs
oh and they are insanely repetitive, ignoring the article subject/topic to rant about enic.
spurticus87
spurticus ... Well, Pele does make a strong stand for what he believes, Gotta respect that. Nobody could call him a fence-sitter!
Geofspurs
and we're all passionate football fans ... how insane is that?! :-)
Geofspurs
Cider pELE is number 76893 on the season ticket waiting list you know that, while lewis is sailing round Tilbury Docks in his big yacht called Billions a Quids. ....
tophobunty1882
topho .... It's pretty certain then that Lewis will be in the next world before Pele gets his season ticket! Although, if we get the new stadium built, it might speed things up a bit. Maybe, then they could sit together.
Geofspurs
Pele would really be an ITK' then.
Cider spurs
See Everton's new giant' signing Traore has opened his account scoring wise. Under 5 minutes.
Cider spurs
Pele will get his season ticket. For the basketball.
jerkinmahjurgen
I was dreading him playing against us … dreadful commentary again !
Highgatespur
Appalling team selection by Swansea
Highgatespur
Geof i think Levy is planning a double decker seat so he can sit on Pele's lap, when we go forward Levy will levitate on the strength of Pele's growing excitement. Cunning plan by the bald one i say.
tophobunty1882
Yeah I know, the point is he would be respected more if he was more balanced. I am a massive Enic fan, do I believe they missed the opportunity to invest, yes. Do I believe that we have been waiting far to long for a spade to go into the ground on the stadium, yes. Do I believe they sometimes lack patience, yes. but take a look around, Newcastle are a shadow of the club they were 10 years ago, aston villa 5, Leeds, Portsmouth, Evertons 2 best players are loans and so is their latest goal scorer. the only improvement that can be made is a sugar daddy and how many of them are out there wanting to waste billions?
spurticus87
topho..What you're basically saying is that you think there is the chance Levy will come to grow on Pele?.
Cider spurs
You could change your name to PeLevy
jerkinmahjurgen
as the spice girls once so eloquently put it, when 2 become 1
spurticus87
spurticus ... good post, but only because I agree with it! Everton 1-1 at HT. Be nice if this was a draw.
Geofspurs
I think you sum it up very well there indeed. or Lepe Jerk
tophobunty1882
all jokes apart at Pele's expense i have been a bit of s supporter of his on here and hope he continues as he wishes.
tophobunty1882
I want an Arsenal Liverpool draw. Failing that another thrashing for Arsenal.
Cider spurs
Levy needs to come out in the next 12 weeks and reward our top players with contracts. He done that with the likes of Bale a few seasons ago and it warded off all speculation that summer giving us stability to build. Lloris, Vertinghen, Paulinho and Sandro are all on the Madrid/Barca hitlist...To be honest with their respective injuries the only one I am really worried about is Lloris.Obviously brilliant but any keeper who has picked the ball out his net 6,5 and 5 times will be considering their future, he needs to be shown some love. Bringing stability at the start of the transfer windows will allow Tim, or however is in charge, a real chance to improve our squad.
T.H.F.Chris
*whoever , sorry I was in shock from the Pele-love that is being shown ... good work VS
T.H.F.Chris
THF Chris i doubt it will make any difference if we dont make CL some will want to go even if you doubled their salaries, its not all about money, did it make Bale stay?
tophobunty1882
It did make Bale stay for two seasons, the problem was we didn't take advantage of it and kept failing.. The most important thing about getting players like Lloris to sign is it stops other clubs AND AGENTS coming in for them, creating a mess and destabilisation. speculation on our keeper would especially be a nightmare, you can't go into the season thinking Friedel might have to be our No 1.
T.H.F.Chris
In total agreement Cider, a draw a BIG first preference! I think there's been a fallout between Carroll and Harry at QPR ?
Highgatespur
Oh no - that p***ck Gray's commentating !!!!
Highgatespur
Regarding our potential to further improve next season, it all depends on several important issues. Firstly can we keep our current key players through the summer window, if we fail to get into the CL, will Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro, Eriksen, Sandro resist the overtures that will come. OK I know they are all on contracts, but we know what happens, particularly at Spurs, if players are determined to leave, and decent offers our made, our bean counter's face lights up, hands are snapped off, and players are gone. The second factor is who will be the coach, will the club honor the rest of TS's contract, or will we be seeing an alternative candidate arriving, if so I hope Levy is more careful, and decidedly more successful than he has been in the past in procuring and employing his 9th coach. This will have to be decided early on, or else we will waste the summer haggling over a management appointment, rather than looking at whatever squad tinkering is required, involving player ins and outs. The third factor is whether the obvious leaks in the squad will be filled, or will we continue with a finger in the dyke, trying to hold back the flood. Will we get the additional striker/s (we currently have 1 in Adebayor, and 2 halves in Soldado and Kane, not exactly inspiring confidence), or the LB, or the GKer to compete with, back up, or rotate with Lloris, if indeed he is still here, or an additional CB depending on an appraisal of Kaboul's likely future fitness at the end of the season. Will we by the end of the season, have decided whether our two most expensive signings are indeed any use, or have we, as I strongly suspect bought two lemons in Soldado and Lamela, and will there be an attempt to move either, or both out, to free up transfer funds and wages. All of these issues will have a strong bearing on how well equipped we will be going into season 2014-15, and whether we will be realistic contenders for a further improvement into top 3 contenders. We may have the basics of a good side, but we are still very much WIP, and a fair way off yet.
Frank
How do arsenal seem to always get drawn at home in the fa cup?and what allocation will they give to Everton?
Dublin Hotspur
Good post Frank. Most of the issues should be addressed if we finish in the desired top 4…. hopefully our hallowed DoF is already on the case of the players we need… in my books we shouldn't throw out the signings made last summer maybe the second season phenomena will work for us! Hopefully decisions further up he ladder will have taken place by mid May ,,,, all signings should be made by the start of WC as price will spiral after… hopefully we'll finish in top 4…COYMS!!!
Highgatespur
Good point Dublin - see how much they gave L'pool ? - another home draw - it was a pathetic display by Webb...
Highgatespur
well on the basis of the last couple of weeks i believe we will need to catch le scum.i think along with the bookies who have have the bindippers in 3rd.

Pele10, the inference that it would benefit the club is there because of your hatred for him. Also lighten up will you. IT WAS A JOKE OK I have defended you on here a few times only for you to come out with this. You know something, you carry on jun this vein and i will just let the rabid dogs have their fun at your expense, stand back, watch and laugh. You do realise that you bring it all down onto yourself don't you.
chrishove123
Frank, if we have dumped a load on the two at 56 mill then we might not recover enough with the current set up, esp if we don't make CL this year. We might be lucky to get 20 in return for them and not CL revenues to cover the losses. If that happen i hope two things happen. 1 The sugar daddy arrives. 2 I get Baldini posted to me.
tophobunty1882
Howard Webb really is the pits. If he is the best official England has to offer then god help us.
spurfect one
Arsenal are the same season after season in terms of home cup draws hence the nick name they acquired many years ago of "Lucky Arsenal". With regards to Webb, how he is named as our best official is beyond belief. The only people who rate him are Alex Ferguson, who is eternally grateful for his years of loyal service to Man Utd, and his colleagues and fellow life members of the Manchester United Supporters Assoc.
Frank
Highgate, how many did pool get? More than us I'm guessing, but less than required? Wish pool beat them! Think webby could be changing his allegiance to north London. Just the wrong side of it!
Dublin Hotspur
I see that Harry's season-end collapse has started with a 3-1 home defeat to Reading!

And wow!..the La Liga top is even closer than the PL (three teams on same points).
Critical_Spur
My concerns is the amount of money spent on Lamela and Soldado, more Soldado because he just looks woeful and we are not likely to get our money back. Lamela, well who knows, what we have seen of him has been mixed bag but we just don't know. He has talent but 30m worth, I don't know, then again carrol didn't have 35m worth did he. If Lamela settles that investment may pay off over the years, but at the moment it is hard to know, strange how he is injured so long as well.

Strikers, I want a complete new set up. Kane not good enough, Soldado, flop as yet, Ade unreliable. Whoever comes in or if Tim stays in the3 role MUST get this area sorted, who I don't know.

Certain areas need strengthening, LB and CB imo mainly because Rose not good enough and Kaboul injury prone.

Too much of an imbalanced squad. I think we will have surplus to requirements, may be need to see the likes of Siggy, Chadli or Holtby go, although non have done anything that wrong, Chadli obvious can do better, he is a Belguim international highly rated, Holtby young and out of thr three Siggy has not really done enough, but has been messed about. The thing is we cannotaccommodate all if them imo. Not their fault, we got too many similar players in midfield, i suppose it depends on the style we play as to who will need to leave.

back up GK a must.

Now we need to keep the following. Lloris, Sandro, Vertonghen, the rest are replaceable, although I think Paulinho, Eriksen, Capoue will have better 2nd seasons and are good enough players to have around, but non of them have made such a huge impact that we would really miss them that much if they did leave, not their fault, all good enough players.

Important to get balance right in the squad.

We can do well next season but it could all fall apart again with wrong decisions being made. As for Baldini not sure of him, can't judge as we don't know who made the decisions on the players coming in. Apart from Soldado and lamela the rest have been ok, Lamela may come good so potentially that is just one player looking a flop, Soldado.
WorldPeace
Critical-I was thinking the same, they have not done well in the last few games, lost mid week as well.
WorldPeace
Topho, I am of a different opinion to you on the EL (the Thurday spoon as you call it). I rate EL higher than the domestic cups, but agree, not at the risk of losing out on CL. As it stands, IMO, we are the outsiders for the CL place, I’d love us to qualify and it’d be a phenomenal achievement for TS and the team. The EL gives the lads a taste of the European footy. The likes of Bentelab and other kids and Friedel (last chance of some glory) would benefit from it. EL offers less physicality compared to the PL. My gripe with our participation this season was AVB’s selection of strong(ish) teams for the group stages. When the draw was made, we’d have known the group stage strength of the opposition. IMO, there was no reason to make the 1st teamers travel round the world (risking injuries and fatigue). Perhaps he was using EL to aid the GEL process?. However, the comp only becomes interesting at this (the knockout) stage. I’d go as far as saying that we are ONE of the favourites in this comp. What is your dislike....a sincere question.

BTW, anyone knows the situation re TS managing without a badge in this comp?

If either Lamela or Soldado get to the level of their respective price tags then I will be very happy. Hopefully it will be Lamela, more longevity and a goal scoring midfielder is harder to find than a striker. Ade going to the stupid African cup is a worry though, wtf (why) is it every two years, three would be bad two just devalues good African players beyond their worth.

WP, Nice assessment of the squad. The standout sell-off would be Siggy for me. Like you, I too am perplexed by both Soldado and Lamela. Everyone has said that Soldado needs a goal to get his confidence back. I am not convinced that I have seen ANY confidence in him since he joined us. Has nice touches and is a team player, but has failed miserably to justify his price tag and reputation. Negredo seems more of a complete striker than our man.....then again, every other striker in PL looks a better option at the mo!. Lamela is a real mystery. How come is so prone to injuries at his age?.....are these physical or psychological injuries?

WP, that's a good piece indeed, but to me that was all obvious before we did it or didnt do it in the august window, so why didn't the team at the club understand and either not do it or do it.

Critical a lot of people share your view of the thursday spoon or EL. I agree with you ref the poor management of the squad in that paint drying league. I don't like it for a number of reasons, the size of the thing is the main reason, the amount of very poor teams in it early doors many not even in europe, the fact that it makes you much less likely to make CL being in it as appose to not being in it. I see very few upsides, but appreciate others do.....Ref Lamela, wouldnt surprise me if he never played for us again. I would prefer that he did and proved himself to be a star. Soldado was never the right man to be, never.

"I don't care too much for money. Money can't buy me love." Words by a couple of Toffee supporters.

"Hm, Who said that money can't buy a love? Yes, it can.Cuz I got lots of money And my Sugar Daddy loves me." Words by Lene Alexandra.

But let's face it. A Sugar Daddy always moves on to younger and prettier flesh and then the money runs out for the ho gettin the money. Ain't no Sugar Daddy who's still gonna love ya when you're 64.

Falstaff the Fool
Worth mentioning about Lene Alexandra, the Sugar Daddy got only silicon breasts, and no love at all. Loving our Spurs is for life. Leave the sugar daddies for the blue team of the west end.

Wenger says: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26220700 and then Wenger says: Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he was unsure whether the foul should have been given. "I have seen the incident and will have to look again - maybe, maybe not," said the Frenchman................ooo la la
