'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Where did parking the bus come from? 20th September 2004: "Mourinho left to moan as Spurs blockade the Bridge"

"Mourinho...... 'We wanted to play. They didn't. We wanted to score. They didn't. Every time they just kicked the ball away. It is frustrating for me, my players, for every Chelsea supporter and for every football supporter. Because people don't pay to see one team play and the other team falling down, demanding to see the medical department........ The referee has to protect us against this".

Really! Tell that to Bayern Munich, Champions League Final May 2012! However, Mourinho did praise Spurs' defensive back line of Ledley King, Naybet and Robinson. So what do we have to face Chelski? Kaboul, Walker and Siggs are available but Eriksen, Rose, Capoue, are out and Lamela is a bit like North Sea Oil, £32m you hear a lot about it but you never see it!

Chelsea at the Bridge? They know how to get a decision at home when they need it! You look at the record Chelsea has at home, it is more than just playing football and winning every week they know how to buy a free kick or getting a decision when they need it! Just ask Everton. We know what we face and we know that Mourinho will look to neutralise Adebayor, he will also know how frail we are at the back, how easy we can be knocked off the ball in the midfield and how Lennon and Townsend if blocked from going out wide will try and come in field and therefore narrow the game.

Emmanuel Adebayor (eight goals) and Roberto Soldado (six goals) are our key attack players and if the Chavs shut them down that leaves us with no goal threat and then it`s down to how we can shut out Hazard, Torres and Oscar and André Schürrle.

If Tim wasn`t watching Everton then he needs to see the tapes. Everton would not allow the Chavs to settle, disrupting their rhythm with Leon Osman, James McCarthy and Gareth Barry breaking up play in midfield. When Chelsea got beyond the Everton midfield they met a solid wall of Distin and Jagielka. Everton matched everything the Chavs threw at them. The Chav`s midfield were basically muscled off the ball by Gareth Barry and James McCarthy. If Tim is reading this article, and apparently he does, check this out: Vertonghen Left Back; Kaboul with Daws CB and Walker on the other side, Chadli and Sandro sitting in front of the back four,Dembele sitting in front of them in the pocket behind Adebayor and Lennon and Townsend marking Ivanovic and Azpilicueta and squeezing the space in the wide areas to block them from making the overlaps. Ain`t going to happen though is it!

Let Hazard roam free at your peril. Give Oscar or Willian time on the ball and we will be hammered.

Everything creative from Everton came down the left hand side and that was where Everton had their greatest success. Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar exchanged quick, incisive passing. We do not have that speed down the left with Fryers, and with Rose injured we might as well get Vertonghen out left and get him supplying Townsend.

At half time Jose Mourinho brought on Ramires for Oscar to out muscle Everton`s midfield and become more of an attacking shape and then Nemanja Matic came on and so the Chavs slowly but surely gained territory and it was only a couple of fantastic saves by Howard that kept the Toffees in the game. Then off comes Will I Am and on comes Torres, the "I will get you the decision you need boss" specialist.

So Chelsea started to gain the territorial advantage. Lampard and Nemanja began to boss the middle of the park and started to attack the heart of the Everton defence. Hazard and Ivanovic combined, André Schürrle came on as substitute for Eto`o and it was a case of how long could the Everton backline hang on before the multi millionaire Chavs bought their free kick from the Ref.

On paper we are expect to lose this one. They have a superior defensive line up, their midfield is more creative and their strikers have more goals than we will ever have this season, and, above all, their cheque-book gives their owner the right to expect the Premiership Title.
So! are we optimistic or are we realistic? Anyone sitting in the crowd at the Cardiff match will know how, after the Robby goal, we thought we were going to hammer Cardiff then the crowd got more and more twitchy as we realised that that was it and we were going to be hanging on to a 1-0 lead.

As far as I am concerned I would rather we lose 3-2 or 4-3 than get stuffed 4-0 or worse. Park the bus, crowd the midfield if we have too but let`s give it a go! If we score first and then sit back we will be inviting them on to us and that will be fatal. We cannot afford to lose possession in midfield and we have to stay touch tight at the back. Close them down don`t give them time or space and we might have a chance, lose concentration just once and Torres, Oscar or Hazard will find the space and we will be on the wrong side of yet another top 5 demolition.

Chelsea fans reckon Hazard is the key and will run rings around our defence so Tim had better be on his game, neutralise Hazard crowd Willian and Oscar and we may come out with a result.
Tim, this is not a game for Bentaleb, it`s not a game for Fryers or Naughton either and it`s not a game for Paulinho if he is going to be anonymous, we need some muscle out there and above all, we need to want it more than Chelski and we need to show it!

COYS! About time I think. A win at SB is a long time waiting.
MAN ON!
Agree Oy Veh, we should keep solid Back line Kaboom & Verts.& sandro / Dembele in front. Lennon, Pauli Siggy / Chadi or Townsend (sub Soldado) Ade.. shape 4231 Lets go for it.. COYS
Block D Spurs
Lloris, Walker, Dawson, Vertongen, Naughton; Dembele, Sandro, Paulinho; Lennon, Adebayor, Townsend.
MAN ON!
24 years is LONG time - time to end this run! COYS.

team : lloris, Walker Verts, Kaboom,Fryers, Lennon, Sandro, Dembele, Adebayor, Siggy, Soladado….EA playing of Soldado with Siggy, lennon and Dembele; Sandro front of the defence. Weird I know but worth a try…. COYS!!!!
Highgatespur
Just to follow on from Highgate's point about 24 years -- We've managed to bust a few these past few seasons ... Man Utd at Old Trafford, Newcastle at St James, Arsenal at the Emirates.

I have no inside info, no proof to back this up, but my gut says this could be the time ...

... the drink may also be a factor! ;D
SpursEagle
It may also be the fact that I'm in such a positive buzz right now, especially after reading Dublin's thread yesterday. If, like he hoped, the players read any of that at all, then how can they not be inspired to break this final bastion of hoodooism ...

... man, this is pretty good beer!
SpursEagle
Let's sing with all our voices on full volume!
All of us altogether, those folks who are in faraway lands and not not so far away,

We will sing what we want
We will sing what we want
David Badiel,we'll sing what we want!!!

Highgatespur
Singing it with ya Highgate!

Beer, song, and Tottenham Hotspur. Life is good!
SpursEagle
SpursEagle - could say a few things but don't want to tempt fate… feeling very positive indeed!!!

Please show up Spurs and strut your stuff!! (you know what I mean….)

COYS!!!
Highgatespur
I'd love us to show up and strut all kinds of stuff, High. But I'd settle for a 1-0, ball in the back of the net off Soldier's ar** victory too! COYS
SpursEagle
Sounds brilliant don't it ?!!!Hopefully we'll be singing this at 7.30 this evening:

"Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody Wang Chung tonight
Everybody have fun tonight
Everybody Wang Chung tonight
Everybody have fun"

We just got to win! We've won the first one in March - let's make it the second one @Chelski!!

COYS

Highgatespur
SpursEagle that's what I mean by strutting our stuff - winning 1-0 with the jammiest of goals. That will do me sir!!! COYS!!!
Highgatespur
Ha Ha Highgate you nutter. No idea what that song is, but I'll sing it tomorrow if we win
SpursEagle
I saw Soldado interviewed on SSN earlier. Boy, that man looked like the weight of the world was lifted from him
SpursEagle
SpursEagle: You're too young - a hit in the 80s or the 90s - great fun! Missed the interview…. really am psyched up for the game!!!
Highgatespur
High same as that for being pstched up.

I promise you I'll youtube that tune tomorrow if victory is ours!
SpursEagle
Amazing the magic of VITAL - just turned over to SSN and managed to see the interview!! Yes, relaxed he did seem - now get those goals - 15 more is the target Roberto!!!! SOLDADO oooah SOLDADO ooohah ….
Highgatespur
ooooh oooh oooh oooh ... Soldadoooooo!

You were meant to see that interview, it's a bloody omen I tells ya!
SpursEagle
It's freaky I think - good interview though - see he's conquered the language issue!
Highgatespur
lol yeah, those three lessons a week have even brought out a cockney accent!

I'm no expert on body language, but he looked both relaxed and raring to go. The funny thing is, I expect Tim to start with 5 in midfield with Ade up front and Soldier on the bench. Sucks for him, but in fairness, away to Chelsea, that would be the correct formation.
SpursEagle
LOL
Gotta say his whole posture was positive. I am sure that he won't mind - he seems to be team orientated player - being on the bench… hope he gets on with 10-15 mins…
unless Timmy listens to me and plays the formation I suggested (probably replace Siggy with Chadli)LOL!!!!
Highgatespur
Or, we could call Mourinho's bluff and play Soldier up front with Ade being charged with a deeper role. All depends on who is fit though.

And Highgate, I'm sure Timmy listens to everything you say mate! ;D
SpursEagle
Yup - it might cause a stir or two in their thinking and EA plays that way anyway… planned or not… expecting some payment from Timmmyyy soon y'know!!
Highgatespur
Yeah, I'd be tempted to throw that spanner in the works if I was boss. However, it's fraught with danger because that Mourinho is oone hell of a manager and you can bet he has a plan for anything ... even if Timmy cajoled Hoddle and Klinsmann (I may have wronged him yesterday, sorry Jurgen!) out of retirement, I bet that bollix would have catered for it.

Two up top may not be what they expect, but it only work if we don't concede early on. Anyway, no matter how we line out, we CANwin this game!
SpursEagle
I don't think he's THAT good…. look at him @ RM!! Play Ea in a withdrawn role … I think we CAN win - didn't realise Eriksen's out - that's a blow… WE just got to believe we can do it!!!
Highgatespur
Yeah, but that's the one blip. You could counter that argumeny by asking: Look at him at porto? Inter Milan? Going back to our boxing chat the other day, Mourinho is a semi Chris Eubank. Bit of a tw** but a fab boxer! ha ha!

Yes, eriksen is a blow! But Lennon and Townsend(this boy does have a good game due!) can cause them problems, and possibly playing Paulinho or Dembele further forward ahead of Sandro and a n other may give the proper support to Ade up front. OR ...

Tim could just listen to us and play Soldier up front with Ade working his balls off behind him! lol
SpursEagle
Good article OyVeh ... very realistic. I was starting to be afraid as I was reading, and then I remembered ... We are Spurs!!! MAN ON ... I'd rather see Lennon than Townsend for this one ... not too much difference between them gong forward but Lennon will run and hassle in defence more. Hope Soldado gets some game time.
Geofspurs
Hey Geof! I'm with you on Soldier getting game time. me and Highgate are thinking of submitting a petition, direct to Levy, to make that happen.
SpursEagle
True and good analogy with Eubank… never admit he's good - he's too smug!

Gotta say Townsend hasn't won me over yet - although I think he's improved his awareness considerably! for me Paulinho has lost his mojo somewhat - off the ball he does sod all!

I am not suggesting EA does anything indecent with his anatomy but I think I know what you mean(LOL)..

I do think the more surprises we have the better it'll be…God I am hoping for a win! CoYS!!! Right off to beddie byes… take care mate!
Highgatespur
Good morning Feof, Yup Townsend is not confident at all at the moment - despite his role in the goal lsat week..although I do think AT did a good job v Dnipro in containing that winger…I hope Soldado plays from the off - give them a surprise! I might be in a camp of one there! The interview was quite positive. OHHHH I just wanna win !!! Take care Geof - it's a good night from me!
Highgatespur
Laters Highgate, thanks for the chat
SpursEagle
Petitions are old new SpursEagle - this forum is mightier!!! Mind you petition might work - look at Cleverly!!! hehehehehe… Good night folks!
Highgatespur
Take care, Highgate

Re Townsend: roy and England messed that boy up. This is his FIRST full season for us, and in any other guise, we'd be loving the promise he has.

AVB was spot on. He wasn't ready for England, and after his impressive games early season for them, he was lauded by the press as not only the future, but the future arrived, willing and ready to rip through the World's best

Now, we have all been around long enough to know that the 90% of footy journalists know bugger all about football. So, as Spurs fans, as people who know our club and players, and in Townsends case, a player that was loaned out numerous times, we should be getting behind a home grown player, who has potential, and needs some backing in, I say it again, his first full season with us.
SpursEagle
Sorry boys - it is SB. We never get anything there. I can't see a result for us. Also, we are under strength. Again. They are full strength. What's with all these injuries? Timmy is right, no pressure on us, we are not expected to win. There is one thing in our favour though. Soldado. Is he about to go on a spree now that he broke his duck? I #*@ hope so!
neymar
Being 'International week' as Jose was moaning about a few days ago I see a little analogy between us and England. England aren't expected to beat Italy, we aren't expected to beat Chelsea. England aren't really expected to qualify, we won't make top 4. But if England can hold out for 0-0 against the tight ar$e italians, then somehow manage a 87th minute winner world domination is a 'cert'. Likewise if we can scrap a 1-0 win tomorrow champions league is 'guaranteed'. The difference is Chelsea play really defensive in the first half and then score the goals in the second, surely this means the first half is when we'll have most territorial possession and the time we have to score. I'd start an attacking 4-4-2 with the plan to bring Soldado off at HT after he's scored his goal. Then we dominate possession and bring on Jose' bus and see out a famous 1-0. That's the plan anyway, get the goal in the first half, snuff them out second. WSWWW!!
T.H.F.Chris
That's the problem - we don't know what to expect from this team. Under AVB we were dull as dishwater but looked solid and competitive with the top teams - until the wheels came off. Now we carry more threat with Adebayor in the team but still can't move the ball quickly enough without losing it. Our best hope is to really battle it out winning the 50:50 balls and breaking quickly.
Love totty
Spot On Spurs eagle re Townsend! I was praying he wouldn't score for England the other night!! and well said THFC and Totty!

Hows it going mate. No kip last night, the little man was climbing all over my head all night, wouldn't settle in his room so did the unspeakable and brought him up! bad idea!
Hope we put in a performance today! I'm Psyched for it! meeting some chelsea heads later to watch it!
Dublin Hotspur
That's tough Dublin. How is the wee little man? My boy was in bed with me last night..has chicken pox and I have a throat infection so both of us were coughing all night. Good luck with the head hunters..hopefully we will be serving Mourinho's head on a platter! COYS!

He's grand, its my eyes that are hanging out of my head! LOL, wife is sleeping in,she got in V late!! Two young ins tearing the gaff apart, but I don't care right now! i'll get my time at 5.00 to get out!

NETMUMS ALERT! Haha I will take my eldest son football today. Fortunately they're two other boys with Spurs kits. We out number Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. He's a lazy sasusage..prefers to be Pat Jennings rather than Hoddle.. COYS!
James1
Good Morning all. busy week work wise, so I've some catching up to do. Had a quick squizz through the articles, firstly thanks to all concerned, secondly, loving the positivity.

Going to be tough today, that does not mean that a win for Spurs is by any means out of the question. Would like to see a robust MF, Sandro and Dembele for sure, get the real men up against the slight frames of Oscar and Willian. (let's not forget, Sandro was not too happy with Willian after the transfer snub). Not too sure about adding a third, or playing Soldado with Ade. My feeling is we should be playing 3 in the Middle, tough call with Soldado getting his confidence boosting match winner last week.

Top 4 aspirations, Chelsea away. Only one thing for it, a Spurs win, "bridging the gap at Stamford".
Cider spurs
Morning Cider! As someone said yesterday, think it was Geof, in the long run up to kick off time on match day, might as well spend that time in an optimistic haze rather than a lost cause mentality!
I'll take a draw but a win would be ideal! just hope we put in a performance!
BTW what is going on on our training grounds and / or physic room? 3 back injuries! can't say I ever heard of that anywhere before!! Imagine there is something wrong with whats going on there! These injuries could be losing us points! not just scrappy performances!!
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin don't you remember the Gerry Francis+sick note days? Good morning Cider. COYS!
James1
I do James, but it just seems a lot of back injuries for a small squad! Erik and Vlad long term back injuries, and Chrissie now as well! Baffles me!
Dublin Hotspur
So we haven't won at Chelsea since 1990, which spans the entire Sugar/Levy/Levy reign. (Sugar bought THFC just a few weeks after we won the FA Cup in 91, our list trip to the final!) During this period Chelsea have replaced us as one of the top two clubs in London, so the stat is highly relevant! During this period THFC have had their worst period of silverware success since world war 2. 'Sugar and the Apprentice' just like the TV series...
Pele10
Morning James and Dublin. Sorry for not responding right away. My computer is having charging issues, so i've borrowed the daughters fiancee's laptop. He was more than happy to lend me it, it too is also knackered. Takes me 20+ minutes to get on the web, and don't even get me started on the freezing of pages. 2 baked bean tins and a length of string looks the way forward to me at present.

Anyway, these back injuries. Too much money in their hip pockets, wage decrease, that'll sort it. Really looking forward to the game, i'm even staying of the sauce today so i can write a post match article later. Didn't think that one through did i when i agreed to do them?. LOL!. My missus thinks it a wonderful outcome, me, I love the Europa games, you know what i mean, on the lash Saturday, no game until Sunday. Sorted. However, being the nice bloke that i am, for all who may just be participating in a wee drinky poo's today....have one for me(session that is). Enjoy!.

Meanwhile, during the 14th season of underachieving ENIC (both on and off the pitch) our current coach tells the media when speaking about his employers... “They are obviously going to keep their options open and decide what they want to do in the future. It is something I can’t comment on and I wouldn’t. If the club feel they want to come out and back me, then it is up to them. If they don’t, I am just cracking on"... This is why Brendan Rodgers refused to come anywhere near OUR great club!
Pele10
Pele10 mate, BR is old news. Let's move on and look forward to a bright future. Ironic - before Sugar and ENIC we didn't have one. COYS!
James1
say and think whatever boils your potatoes, or gives the hard-on, and by all means drink to that a la SpursEagle above. One thing's certain though; Chelsea's superior star quality will prevail, as usual. And spuds won't finish any higher than 6th place! Quote me. Good luck singing what you want lol
HGH Magic
Pele10: Sorry, but your stat is highly irrelevant! Whatever Rogers thinks, also has nothing to do with todays match.
MAN ON!
Full backs need to play as full backs today. Cross from deep rather than go beyond the winger to limit being caught having to chase back...we absolutely can't be giving away the resulting cheap free kicks at the edge of the box, the likes of which Rose and particularly Walker excel in giving away. I also don't want to see Eriksen on the left today, we need wide men to stay wide on their natural side, keeping our shape alongside zonal marking is an absolute must against a talented team who will always have at least one wide player cutting inside. That also means playing with 2 deep cm's to help nullify that threat. Forget style, draw them onto us where we have safety in numbers and use that natural, pacey width to break on the counter. Dembele and Sandro in front of the back 4, Townsend and Lennon out wide, Ade up front. Who to play behind Ade is the tough choice for me...Eriksen is clearly the most talented, but how much of a chance will he have to make an impact? Sigurdsson will always get stuck in but is likely to be the most rusty. Chadli offers a good physical presence but hasn't really made a mark on any game as of yet. I'd probably start with Eriksen since Chelsea have been slow starters themselves as of late so we should try and be as creative as possible within our constraints the first half. If we're still level or have taken a shock lead around I'd swap him for Chadli around the 60 min mark to try and see out the game and give us more height to defend set pieces as they try and bombard us at the end.
flipper
Morning brothers-in-Spurs (evening for me!). James, I hope the boy and you get well soon. It’s good for kids to get CP when they are young as it hits you much harder as you get older. I used to take my kids to play with other kids who had it just so they’d catch it early!!

What a bloody stupid KO time (1:30am my time). THFC should consider supporters in Australia and KO at 8am. Wouldn’t you guys love that. Why don't you all start a petition?! :-)
Geofspurs
flipper, I think it's doubtful that Eriksen will play today...
MAN ON!
G'day/good evening, Geofspurs.
MAN ON!
MAN ON, yeah didn't realise he was still doubtful or that it was a back problem. Not worth the risk if he's not 100% particularly with an injury that forces you to overcompensate and risks other injuries. Would it be totally left field to consider playing Soldado actually behind Ade? I'd argue he's probably our 2nd most technically gifted, creative player behind Eriksen if you start to look at what he contributes while ignoring the lack of goals. I suppose positionally he wouldn't be able to play the role effectively though, so Chadli would probably be the best option without Eriksen. (I'm deliberately missing out Paulinho who's been playing so far below the ability we've seen he's capable of that he really needs dropping)
flipper
Hour and a half to the ever loan (as Highgate calls them lol) game! I really hope it a draw, and force a replay before we play them, and actually have Arsenal forced to play an away match in the FA cup! How do they always get drawn at home?
and I hope Everton in turn reduce their ticket allocation and up the prices so the Woolwich get to take some of their own medicine!

Great day for the sport today, football, rugby (Come on Ireland) then our match.
Dublin Hotspur
Hey MAN ON .... Don’t you just love match days?! Today’s game ... anything could happen! I'm not even going to try to predict the team. Who can? Isn’t it great that we have not seen many negative comments for a few days. It’s been a good site to visit. Hope it continues over the weekend whatever happens! COYS!
Geofspurs
Flipper, that could work re Soldado, or Ade in behind him? If not Chadli is my man for this one, we need the extra height and a midfielder with an eye for goal, I actually think he has put in some quality performances, and his goal was a cracker! he has an eye for goal for sure, and thats where he plays for Belgium also!
Dublin Hotspur
flipper....So glad yet another poster has noticed all the good things Soldado does. Yes we signed him to score goals. He has, trouble being some argue from not in the manner they wish, me too somewhat, but still realise he has scored.

What i do see from him is the ability to drop of a little and usually find one or two truly exceptional defence splitting passes each game that result in a good chance being created. Maybe the emphasis could be put on some of the others to score and let's give him this role and see how it pans out. I also agree ref; Paulinho, but have a hope that a pairing with Sandro will improve his game.

As for Chadli, i'm still very much in the "think he's got the quality" camp. He's no LW, people should remember this, he can play off the Left, but is more in the mold of the players who drift in or curl the ball around the RB for the cross. I reckon he could be a great AM/10 for us, something i'd love to see him do all the more. The lad seldom screws his shots, pretty accurate in the shot, very adept at making the yard for the shot, and seldom panics in possession.
Cider spurs
Geofspurs, yes, I love match days too. I'm certainly going to make an afternoon of it. The King's road is a bus ride away for me and, I will probably hit there about 2ish GMT, Find a pub, have a couple of beers, then stroll up to the Bridge, take my seat at around 5pm and hopefully watch an open and exciting game of football.
MAN ON!
Sounds good MAN ON .. Take care and have a great afternoon!
Geofspurs
Cheers Geoff. Hope you can stay awake for it...

Cider, remember Robbie's cross to ade for his volley goal! His link up play is great and he has tekkers!

MAN ON... You made me jealous. I remember that kind of match day. It's not the same just watching it on TV. But at least I get to watch the boys play these days!

James 1 tells me, "Pele10 mate, BR is old news. Let's move on and look forward to a bright future. Ironic - before Sugar and ENIC we didn't have one. COYS!" Classic Sugar ENIC apologist statement! He tells us we did not have a future before Sugar and Levy even though the club won the FA Cup just a few weeks before Sugar bought the club on the CHEAP??? Well let's just compare the 24 seasons before Sugar and Levy owned the club, to the last 24 seasons... In the last 24 seasons Tottenham Hotspur have won 2 League cups and failed to reach a single FA Cup or European final! In the 24 seasons before Sugar and Levy run Tottenham Hotspur, the club won 3 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, and 2 EUFA Cups...
Pele10
I also don't understand any criticism of Roberto's general play. I don't think the WHL crowd would have been so rapturous in their applause for him last week, if they hadn't seen his quality, regardless of his lack of goals.
MAN ON!
That's because we love him man on... He's a YIDDO!!
Dublin Hotspur
Pele, I can feel it! European glory will come this year! Bring on Turin!
Dublin Hotspur
Pele...So what we could say is that Spurs have in the past 48 seasons, won the UEFA cup twice, 3 FA cups, and the League cup 4 times.
Cider spurs
Dublin...yes mate. Great cross from Soldado, great finish by Ade. Don't mind how we win all too much today, one of those fixtures where the three points have to be considered the be all and end all.
Cider spurs
Dublin Hotspur, Yes mate, it's all set up for European glory this season! Especially with it being the 30th anniversary of the club reaching or winning a European trophy! But what worries me terribly is that old Loser Levy/Sugar curse of ENIC stuff... I've been doing my "Forgive us father if Joe Lewis has sinned" prayer's for several years now, but nothing sees to work??? God even allowed Loser Levy to sell "Jermaine Defoe, he's a Yido", our leading goal scorer in European competition of all times, in this special anniversary season??? ;)
Pele10
I will be very happy for any points today and if we win then, fantastic. I really don't care how we do it. However, I feel it'll be an enjoyable match in which we'll make a good account of ourselves. We'll see. Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
Cider spurs, yes you could say that if you want to try and hide the fact that we have only won 2 League Cups in the entire Sugar/ENIC 24 season period... Why would you want to do that?
Pele10
Voodoo, curses and superstition only ever affect those that believe in such mumbo jumbo.
MAN ON!
Pele, its the money that the club makes that is most important, the football side doesn't matter.
matt hoten
Everton the draw specialist, can they produce another one over the next 90mins plus?

Pele, there's a match today, are you looking forward to some football later?
MAN ON!
I can't honestly see any valid reason why this Spurs side can end Mourinho's phenomenal home record. Better Spurs teams than this have tried and failed many times, so why break the habit of a lifetime.
Frank
Before Klinsmann we had not won at Anfield, records do get broken, shame Pele 10 can't be broken

MAN ON FFS don't ask it a trick question
spu 4 life
Got a feeling we might win one of our three difficult games coming up, more luck than organisation. Sherwood hasn’t got us organised if anything it is getting worse. We won ugly last week because Cardiff are basically a championship side at the bottom of the league, his tactics whatever they are won’t work against the like of Chelsea. He has rejuvenated Ade but has had the opposite effect on the likes of Paulinho, Townsend ,and Verts (and others). Naughton and Fryers I expect to get the runaround this evening. Roll on next season

Isn't the beauty of football, just sometimes, the unpredictability of it all? I predict a win, a draw or a loss. I'll put my mortgage on it...
MAN ON!
And before you all jump on the answers or taker d pis$ I have been known to swing it both ways, I use to bowl
spu 4 life
matt hoten, every game Sherwood wins is apparently down to luck. Well, if that's the case being that lucky so often we should be moving heaven and earth to keep him on for as long as possible. We'll likely find out Messi is a lifelong Spurs fan and has a release clause that allows him to join us for a quid while Carlos Slim and Bill Gates confess their huge admiration for anything Sherwood does and join forces to buy the club just for a chance at working with him!
flipper
Who reckons the kid will play behind ade? I do, not what I want today, as we need some creativity, not safe short passes!
I'm superstitious when it comes to us, I will be wearing my lucky training top today which used to belong to Edgar Davids!, the others don't seem to work. I am also going to a different pub than where I normally watch, as in the last 8 years in there, I haven't managed to bring a win against them at the bridge! The kids will be wearing their away kits at home, and Diddy Kong will be watching and screaming!
All that should get the planets aligned and cancel the ENIC curse out! a 1-0 win for Spurs!
Dublin Hotspur
I only swing when we're winning!
MAN ON!
MAN ON!, Yes of course I'm looking forward to the game! But the thought of Eden Hazard running full throttle at 'Captain Fantastic' Micheal Dawson, terrifies me! ;)

MAN ON!
Dublin Hotspur... Haha! I'm wearing a musty and crusty old pair of Hoddle's Y-fronts. They don't necessarily bring me luck, but they're bloody comfortable.
MAN ON!
Hey Geof just read your post; thanks pal. The boy is better and I'm waiting for the eldest to get it now. Like you say - sooner the better ;). Pele10 read Ciders comment. It really sums it up. Just to add to that..you do realise how close we were to losing our club..Scholar, almost cost us. I love the fact he bought top players but the fact was; we were punching well above our weight. So we have to thank Sugar to get us out of the mess and ENIC for the business model. Anyway I've had enough talking about this. Spurs ftw and Lloris will be our MOTM with Ade and Dembele not far behind. 3-0 to Spurs (David Colman voice). COYS!

WOW, talk about pessimism, what do you do to keep happy as Spurs supporters, Pele, matt… You are more skilled than I am I have to take the positivity stance EVERY time… forget ENIC, BR (I'm glad we didn't go for him)and all the other bits…

We ARE Tottenham - from the Lane!!!

I'm flitting between the games now (weren't they forbidden to do this?) - the runts winning - come on Everloans!!!

I keep on getting shouted down in real time when I suggest that our #9 is quite adept at playing the ball and so on (I even convinced some to alter their views - no mean feat!) but I am serious when I suggested to Eagle that EA plays behind Soldado today in the absence of Eriksen…
I think the more surprises we have the better - go on, is that the sound of howling disapproval on Vital spurs land ?…

On the bus right now heading through old Wandsworth Town, past my old school and thinking about all my old loutish, Chelsea supporting school mates. Whatever the result today, we are still Spurs and we remain the Yid Army. My first and last beer today will be a toast to you all. Up the Lilywhites!

Only saw the end and Arsenals two late goals. they looked very comfortable, but Everton also looked knackered. did Arse play well or was it a bit that Everton are now looking tired and struggling as the result of a too small squad of players

@ Dublin, I think I could be quite happy to have Lukaku and Barkley at WHL. I think Everton will be fine and I really like them under Martinez and think they will be better for next season, however they will perhaps again be battling the finances with possible having to replace, Lukaku, Barry and the lad from Barca before they even start to think of kicking on

Dublin Hotspur
or a Lazy Man on! just like you sitting on a bus! get out and walk!!

I must admit ox, i'd be more than happy to have both Barkley and Lukaku at Spurs. Very good point regarding Everton having to most probably next season rebuilding as opposed to consolidating and kicking on. Another player i like, have for a few seasons now is there RB Seamus Coleman. Very good at getting the balance between attack and defend. I like the fact that he was pretty much plucked form obscurity and performs well.

Good read but not so sure about Chadli in CM?? Paulinho has been poor in recent weeks but this may be just the game to get him going. He's coming up against a few of his Brazilian team mates and should have a point to prove with Oscar and Ramirez being direct competition for the Brazil team. Sandro will also be looking for a big game. I can see TS going the 4-1-4-1 for this one, with Walker - Dawson - Kaboul - Vertongen - Sandro - Lennon - Paulinho - Bentaleb - Dembele - Adebayor. This assuming Eriksen is out, if not, he's in for Bentaleb wide left and Dembele alongside Paulinho. Against Chelsea we will need our most tactically adept and hardworking players, so think Townsend will miss out and be off the bench with Soldado if we are chasing the game late on. COYS!!

Dembele must be injured, not sure about this but looking forward to seeing how we line up and play, not long left now.

I think TS has parked the bus

It looks like Lennon is playing on the left as walker will be on the right, 3 at the back with 2 wing backs. Genius or a stab in the dark.

Effin Bentaleb starting again

This defensive lineup is probably our best bet for a 0-0 draw.

Vert's in as a DM?, seen Kaboul play here before.

Kaboul up front with Dawson finding him with every punt :-)

Looking at our team, lucky for us we at least drew a goalkeeper, Tim must have selected this team by doing a raffle system of selection.
spu 4 life
I'm confused. I hope the players have a clearer idea of our formation than I've got at the moment. I'm not sure such a radical change in personnel and formation is wise away at Chelsea. Sherwood will either be a genius or total donkey by 7:30 tonight.

naughton dawson kaboul vertonghen across the back walker should be man marking hazzard, lennon sandro bentlab cigarson. ade up against cahill and terrys all gold
spu 4 life
Walker playing right wing for the quality of his crossing. Siggy in the hole for his pace. Lennon on the left because he likes it there. Verts at left back because we really want to pi$$ him off. Dawson at CB for his pace and the quality of his distribution. Chelsea will definitely be confused but I fear they may be happy come the end of the match. I hope I'm very wrong.
SpuriousLife
Ts defo pulled one from left field with Walker right MF. Could be smart move with he and Naughton double teaming Hazard. Possibly the most defensive team TS could field,so perhaps trying to do a Chelsea on Chelsea....keep em out and then try to nick it on the break late on. This will be intriguing!!
LOS Spurs
Love it. Another half hour of Hoddle informing little Jimmy Redknapp that Spurs are better than he gives us credit for.

Just heard one pundit say Lennon is going to play in the hole and Siggy wide left....surely not??
LOS Spurs
Spent £100m in the summer, not one of them in the starting line up. Hoping naughton and Lennon do not play on the left.
Kong
looks like 5-2-3. very interesting. timmah trying to outwitt mourinho. good luck. to dare is to do and all that
spurs-stelios
Even gloating in capital letters, shame!
coopsieyid
Walker plays RW mopst of the 90 minutes anyway, no problem with that. Glad Kaboul is inside of Vert's (insert joke here), Naughton more defence orientated as opposed to Naughton, again all good. Bentaleb can tackle, yes the odd bad game, he's not exclusive in this however this season. Many more seasoned pro's have played alot worst than him. Lennon might be a weakness, Left side has been all season, bit concerned about Siggy's lack of pace if required to get back and help Midfield numbers.
Cider spurs
I just don't understand what TS is up to. I hope Siggy has his goal scoring boots on and that the subs do it for us if played and needed

truly bonkers line up, def gonna be a masterstroke or a death sentence. Sigurdsson's first start in god knows how long. He did score a few against the big guns earlier this year maybe he can sneak one otherwise Bobby Soldado on in the 60th minute or so. No Eriksen for this game hurts. Having Kaboul and Sandro is always a refreshing sight. Torres injured during warm up, Dawson might have a chance.

Cider - I think Torres was going off with that female physio to have a closer look at that groin strain :-)
muttley
We've a number of good defensive midfielders in this line up, including Naughton as a midfielder on the wing, I would guess. Sandro, Bentaleb. Need to disrupt the Chelsea midfield in a physical way, knock them off the ball, disrupt their offensive flow, if we're to have a chance in this lion's den of SB. With any luck, this might turn out to be an interesting match. Maybe we can see Mourinho throwing a water bottle in frustration a la Wenger. Come on you Spurs. Come on. Think of today as an opportunity for glory.

How we sold caulker over Dawson still astounds me, his killer passes are killing our momentum. Oh, and caulker scores
van der haart lane
Good game naughton so far, quite impressed with the young man
van der haart lane
Hmm, thoughts are thus.....

Lloris - Not much to judge really

Naughton - Sound

Kaboul - Rusty

Dawson - No-mans land, STOP the 60 yard passes

Vertonghen - Trying but lacking support

Walker - No comment, don't want to insult our player

Lennon - Can't blame the lad, not sure where he's supposed to be playing, so is nowhere

Sandro - Being a total basterd to the Chavs, we need that.

Sigurdsson - Hard to do anything when you're not really given the ball.

Bentaleb - Liability, sorry kiddo. Stupid fowls, slack passing that almost cost us deeply.

Adebayor - Started OK, hopefully wakes up again in the 2nd half, STAY UPFRONT!!

Seriously, Lennon in the hole, Sigurdsson out wide. Am I REALLY seeing that as a selection from our manager? Dumbfounded!! I haven't seen our bench, can anyone please tell me what we have to make things a bit more potent, apart from my choice herb!!
coopsieyid
I have to say Walker has impressed me in his role. I feel they kind of nullified Chelsea.
markyboy40
That was a pretty good first half - don't know why I'm still so nervy!
Durbanspur
well done. now comes the danger of Josés tactical and mental changes during the interval. But who woulda thunk that Timmy would have such an audacious line up and tactics for the 1st half? so much better play by THFC than the last couple of matches that were torture to watch.
Falstaff the Fool
Much better, my only grumble with the first half is verts slows us down when we attack, not his fault as its not his natural position, expect a much tougher second half.
spurfect one
Turn down the sound, don't give a phuck what Glenn and Redcrap have to say. It's 0-0 and all going to, what ever plan we had from the start, the only problem comes if they score, the longer we can hang onto 0-0 and maybe grab a goal. As it stands I would take 0-0 it does Man City a turn.
spu 4 life
Still, apart from the first 5 minutes, at least we're giving as good as we get. We can definitely do better, as can the Chavs, but we're still in it & that's GOT TO be a positive. COYS
coopsieyid
just got to take care of Oscar if he's introduced. they are going to be looking for those defence splitting passes all the more this second half IMO.

Lennon faded as the game wore on, and needs to be more of a cattle dog snipping at the defence. Perhaps Pauli on for nabil? Good performance overall
van der haart lane
Coopsie - bench friedel, fryers, paulinho, chadli, townsend, kane, sol

Cheers NEYMAR. Well van der haart has got one change, Paulinho for Bentaleb. If Sherwood is insisting on Sigurdsson being out wide, get him off & bring Townsend or Chadli on. Soldado for Lennon.

Oscar for Lampard, as Cider correctly says, we MUST watch Oscar, he can tear us a new one!!

paulinho has not been good the last few appearances for spurs, but reports from brasil say he was very good vs. south africa a couple of days ago. let's see what he's like as he comes in. but down a man and 2 goals truly is depressing indeed.

Talk about self destruct, we are muppets, don't care about the decision. Just avoid a 4th embarrassment of the season.

u know what, as pap as Dawson is I'll take him over Vertonghen any day of the week - at least he plays for the club and bleeds our colors. Well, it's 3am here..I'm at work at 7am so I will grab a few hours kip than watch us let in another 3. Never was a Red card, ref is having a stinker. Note to our Ginger number 5, do your fecking job properly, we were the only team in it until your bloody joke defending. You want Champions league? well if you keep on costing us points we will never get it. Well structured line-up, nice move by Tim, let down by Jan and the ref.
sukhothai
I can't bear this. That was never a penalty never mind a red card. What is the point of a game where the referee has the power to completely destroy the spectacle and corrupt the result. This has to stop.

Hotspur Verts slipping no problem, playing it back in the most dangerous area blind is thick....the penalty probably was a penalty but no sending off, after giving a goal away why are we letting them so near our goal.
T.H.F.Chris
What a disgrace to football. I hope Man City win the league and Chelsea get NOTHING this season. They don't deserve a thing with their style of diving , CHEATING & harassing the officials. The ref must be Chav supporter after his decisions tonight!!! Off goes the cheat. I hope he has a s*** birthday , however old he is!
PaulYoung1962
wonder if levy understands how wrong he was to sell caulker.....stupid little punt. we now have zero backup in our defense and steven scored a brace today. LEVY OUT!
jefferyhyde
So, we are the team losing, yet it's the team that's winning, that's brought on attackers. Seriously losing my patience with Sherwood. Is it a world record for starting a game with the largest amount of players out of position? Vertonghen, Sigurdsson, Lennon, Walker = All out of position. Gutted!!
coopsieyid
To be fair, Dawson only had 4 clips he could have sent to You've Been Framed this week. Let's hope he's not out for too long though whether we like him or not, we need out players fit.

All clubs with mourinho cheat and harrass officials. nothing new to this.

One mistake by Verts and its cost us. We were playing very well until then. The ref has cost us but the bigger loss is losing Daws. Against le scum we have no Daws and no Kaboul!!!

I would be very much disappointed with 2-0. I need at least 4-0? Fair enough?
Keyser Soze
keyser, trolling on other clubs' boards is one of the reasons fans of every other single team in the league hate chavs. hope you feel proud. where were you before verts slips and we go down to 10 men a few minutes later. probably sitting in your mom's basement watching the game, chewing off your nails because spurs were bossing the game.
jefferyhyde
Vertonghen gifted the points, not the ref. He should have cleared his lines and chose to check back and completely overplay it. Regardless of him accidentally slipping or not, it was woeful defending again from Vertonghen he should know the drill when you're 0-0 at Stamford Bridge. I thought he was supposed to be world class and Barca and City were after him.

Like Coop's review of game so far & o the Manager's team sheet. I just hope LVG is our MANAGER next season as I don't think Tim is good enough. Just don't have the convidence in im I am afraid. I would have to say that on tonight's performance Jan can leave in the summer to Barcelona or anywhere except to our competitor's for £20 - £30mllion & use the money for some of the great talent around..

I am not sherwood's biggest fan, but he put out an interesting team and we were frustrating chelsea. kaboul was tying his laces when vertonghen slipped, had he have been focused then he would have been first to the ball ahead of eto'o. the penalty and the sending off were ridiculous decisions, at least sandro was let off a second yellow because oliver wasn't going to send two off, and kaboul's red will likely be rescinded. we were unlucky today, not sherwood's fault, four individual mistakes led to 4 goals. such a shame because he would have been an interesting match had verts not slipped.

How anyone can blame Sherwood for this is ridiculous - thought that he changed it and surprised Mourinho.
Durbanspur
Have to say the standard of refereeing in this country is $hit, and thats putting it mildly, the chelsea players know they can con the refs here and thats why they were constantly diving, we don't have that tactical nous or the brains to implement these little or big cons that go on in games, tbh im glad we don't have to resort to cheating in that way chelsea have too, imo chelsea have to be the worst team for diving, they have been doing it all season.

Vertonghen can feck off for all i care, too much talking in the press and not enough on the pitch, i feel he gets an easy ride due to his qualities on the ball but his defensive play has been $hit for the majority of the season, i knew once kaboul got sent off we would fall apart, kaboul is our best CB by a mile imo.
spurfect one
i have seen vertohngen slip week in week out - he needs to change his boots or get off the sauce. did you see his face, he knows he is 100% to blame - still, his 65K pay check should make him feel better and tomorrow he can tell everyone how if we dont get CL footie he may go. Love totty - What do you mean, "give it a break Coopsie - we know you're prejudice"? I've not slagged anyone off, I've not insulted anyone, I simply stated what I thought was a poor display from our manager. Sorry that was somehow prejudice, and sorry you've somehow taken my opinion the wrong way.
coopsieyid
Hotspur, The biggest problem with that and the reason I said we were muppets were what Kong said before the match, £100m spent in the summer and not one in the starting line up. I don't feel good about saying this either, but its a fact.

Coopsie I don't think you can complain to much about Tim sitting down, his plan was working until the players decided to give it away, we literally gave them 4 assists today, you can't manage that.
T.H.F.Chris
I mentioned LB is not verts natural position so i can forgive mistakes when he plays there, but it's his attitude when being played there that gets my back up, he sulks too much.
spurfect one
Yep, what LongTimeSpursFan64 said!!
coopsieyid
Lloris should have been sent off in the first minute. Eto'o was not offside.
foreign_viewer
I said yesterday that Chelsea would get 4.

No Spurs fan should be able to predict & the fact i did says we have issues. We were embarrassing today & when i said that line up in the pub,i laughed.I couldn`t believe what Tim nice but Dim put out today.

Spurs again failed to deliver.Looked a harsh penalty but he pushes him in the box,Sunday league.Sandro should`ve been sent off twice,Sunday league.3 of their goals self inflicted,Sunday league.
We are unorganised, unprofessional & Tim nice but Dim has to go in the summer.

Please tell me what is the point to Aarron Lennon? only the useless Siggy was on a par with him in regards to no point being on the pitch.

Spurs need a massive summer shake up.This club is in disarray on the pitch. They`re not even playing together as a team
Fanny adams
So no Dawson, Kabul or chiriches and verts in defensive wonderland, lucky we have only arsenal next game.

Guys, there's clearly some passions riding high on here. I think I'll bow out, as I said 5 minutes ago, and see if people have calmed down tomorrow. It's better for the site, especially if I'm being labelled as prejudice, just because I've questioned our manager playing almost half a team out of position, and saying Wallker is just bad. Take it easy guys.
coopsieyid
A club of losers from the chairman down. A pathetic display. As usual we fall apart when the going gets tough. Shameful and embarassing.
jonathan01
Can we please sort out our LB position in the summer? yet another mistake from that position today, i thought tims line up was ok but the one niggling doubt in my mind was verts at LB, never looks happy when he plays there and too slow when in attack.
spurfect one
How the ***** was that anything to do with our manager? That has to be one of the stupidest comments I have seen for a while. Tim put out an interesting formation and played players in some new places AND it was causing them problems. As a manager you cannot legislate for 3 gift goals and a crap referee.
philbill
Yeah another,Lloris should`ve been sent off in the first minute.
How can a professional club aiming for top 4 be so reckless?
We don`t deserve top 4,embarrassing.

But all i`m saying is how & why should that even be able to predict?
The fact that what happened is not a surprise is a worry.
It should be called a bad day at the office, not what to be expected.
Worse thing is Chelsea actually did have a bad day at the office.
Spurs beat themselves as much as Chelsea beat them.

well thanks for nothing Spuddies, needed you lot to really win at Chelsea but you totally folded after a pretty good first half.

Once they scored you never looked like getting anything other than a hiding.

And you are giving out about diving after Verts Oscar performance during last week?? Karma guys karma.

Galway Gooner
that was a great set up by sherwood today, but for a ghastly pass back?

GG What a surprise, you always surface after a negative result to rub it in, rather sad really mate, let me ask you a question, where were you when you lost to stoke, or any other negative Arsenal result?, you come on here trying to come across as balanced and objective but you're sly and pathetic, in fact you worse then HGH Magic, at least with him you know he is trolling, you on the other hand is much more of a wimp.
spurfect one
That was some talk from Sherwood, very honest, forget top 4 as he doesn't believe it saying it is a joke thinking we can get top 4, some players don't care, very interesting what team he picks for Thursday as he wasn't happy with the players at all. Wasn't sure about the team selection but I thought we played well, the goal was Chelsea's first shot on target, downhill from there
Kong
I disagree with those supporting sherwood. No team spirit, players playing as individuals, no one seeming to care, stupid mistakes. This is a mess. I dont blame sherwood - hes a rookie completely out of his depth managing a top PL club. Its all on Levy. Wait for the exodus of our best players in the summer.
StillRickyVilla
Interesting interview by Sherwood
Lee Treend
spurfect - so you're conceding SPUDS are a joke, no?
HGH Magic
Your season is going as I predicted. Too many similar players. You needed wingers but you bought Sandro many times over. Benteke (22) or Soldado (28)? Lamela for £30m?
foreign_viewer
Sherwood said he won't be forgetting about the result on the way home but some of the players will and that is unacceptable, he was very upset and not sure if that will go down well. It wasn't a penalty either.
Kong
Basically Tim said we have no character and no guts. He also said some of the players would have forgotten about this by the time we were on the motorway but that he wouldn't. He also said that he knew that there were certain players he couldn't rely on. One of the best and most truthful interviews I have seen. For what it's worth, considering we had no Dembele or Eriksen or Rose, I thought he set the team up quite well. He was let down by another gutless display of which there have been many this season. There is a lot that is seriously wrong at our club
jonathan01
ghulam....first half we bossed for the most part. lloris was lucky to not been sent off in the first minute as eto could have been the lead in a russian ballet with how he fell, thank god he was "offside". Hazard wasted a chance, but if not for a solid save by cech, we would have been up one nil at the half. second half we were,....well....spurs
jefferyhyde
Sherwood needs to stay as Spurs, just not as manager.

He was visibly upset in his interview & was very annoyed by how many Spurs players have been hiding.
I`ve been saying for years how too many players enjoy being carried, today it`s come out in the open.
Great interview & really hope Tim stays at Spurs in some capacity, but as a manager is he out of his depth.Went right up in my estimations & respect.

Players like Lennon,Adebayor,Walker,Siggy,Kaboul & Dawson simply need to go.We cannot continue with players like these.

The more you see it the more it is a penalty,Kaboul has been so clumsy.

HGH Magic, im conceding that we made mistakes, that does not equate to a joke, what is a joke is you feel the need to come on to a spurs forum to gloat, you must need attention!

Wonder what players Sherwood was referring too as not caring
Kong
Tim Sherwood "You can't legislate for the capitulation - you can't have that. Lack of characters, too many of them too nice to each other and you need to show a bit more guts and not want to be someone's mate all the time. They need to drag it out of each other. It hurts me and I won't forget about this when we hit the motorway, but some might. It's not a penalty and not a sending off but the game was finished after that. We've got the Europa League on Thursday and we owe the fans a performance. We let them down again on the big occasion. You won't finish in the top four if you don't beat top teams. You're miles away unless you beat the top teams. There have been too many blips. The club talks about fourth, wake up." - completely and utterly agree with TS. Refreshing to hear a manager voicing his true opinion. These players don't care, their all weak. Pathetic.
MrSpurs
oi chavvy hgn magic,get lost,

Kong, if i was a betting man i would say Vertonghen is one of them, i'm not saying that because he made a mistake today but his body language all season has been of an attitude of i don't give a feck, naughton no way near as talented but at least he actually seemed to give a feck.

i have an idea. we should sell more players because joe lewis could really use the cash and daniel levy has apparently fallen on hard times. this pair of clowns need to step up RIGHT NOW or FK right off
Cape Town Spurs
If I recall, in the City game, the first goal that was scored seconds in to the match, there was a player tying his laces, two players talking, not even looking at the ball at the start and another player looking in to the stars. We weren't ready. Kaboul was tying his laces, saw there was a problem, stopped running, and then went back to his boot again. There is no plan. Eto'o was onside and Lloris should have seen red. Kaboul, whether he meant to or not, did bowl over Eto'o, who had position. Sandro was very lucky to stay in the match. Kaboul is gone for the next three. Dawson will likely be out. Vertonghen has not wanted to be there since Sherwood came in. Lloris does not want to be there. The doors are wide open. No plan. Unbelievable. We created nothing, so best we deserved was a 0-0 draw. COYS

Sherwood said a lot, but what was consistent in the interview is that he doesn't own the changing room. He clearly doesn't command the respect of the players except for a few that will put in a shift for him. That's probably the most disappointing thing as regardless whether they like him or not, they should be doing it for us.

Tim Sherwood all but admitted we need someone stronger.

Sherwood says"players are too nice to eachother"

That translates as "these players don`t listen to a word i say".

Is there player power at THFC?
Fanny adams
Just words tho. Its tims job to instill team spirit, fight etc. We have the players. We need a manager who commands respect and knows where we are going. We are a complete mess. Im afraid tim has just cemented the departure of verts, lloris and others. We start again from scratch this summer. What a mess. What a disaster of a season. Where the phucks baldini in all this?
StillRickyVilla
Spurfect, you are probably right, he doesn't seem bothered, Lloris seems fed up with the defence and I don't blame him. Considering none if our new players started the game we did well with that team, would have played Townsend instead of siggy or walker. Let's see what's next in store for us.
Kong
Another worrying concern was when we were down to 10 men and we watched 3 of the players trying to figure out how to re-organise the team. Isn't that Tim's job to get those instructions on the field?
muttley
Stillrickyvilla, Baldini is only partially to blame, Levy is the one who appointed avb saying we were heading in the right direction only to sack him a year and a half later to replace him with a rookie who has been he here all the time, all this also by replacing redknapp in the first place after 2 4th place finishes in 3 years, you coulden't make it up.

Wasn't as bad as the scoreline lads, the pain of losing was the worst! Verts should have put the ball anywhere but where he did! shat happens! the pen was a dive! the red will be rescinded and we will have lost another game because of a bad decision! we were in the game, well in it! can't get my head around the scoreline but, as with city, you can't play 10 v 11 against top 4! now Europa has t be a priority, and we just have to beat Arsenal (which we will) and pool (which we can) chin up lads!!! but I do question Tims selections, and Robbie should have come on after the first goal to work with ade! ill go into my views on positional deficiencies tomorrow! got 10900 texts from chelski "friends" to answer tonight!

Jose: 'When you lose 4-0 you go home and don't speak about the ref.'...I think he is just right,y'all should stop talking about the ref

Summer should equal manager mode on fifa 14. out should be verts, lloris, walker, soldado, siggy, ade (as he is only happy with a redknapp like manager) dembele and lennon. bring in lukaku, toby anderwahl, loic remy, jack butland, bring back holtby and BAE, buy back caulker. then hire ajax's manager. sorry tim, you are a nice honest guy, but you need to do some bleeding in management at a championship club first. 4-2-3-1 next year. butland, bae, kaboul, caulker, anderwahl, sandro, paulinho, erikson, holtby, townsend, lukaku. that is a young and hungry team that can fight for years to come........wont happen though

I like Tim Sherwood as manager, speaks like a normal bloke and I can relate to him. I don't think we would have got that honesty from some of our previous managers. When fellow Spurs fans say its his job to earn respect I disagree, these are professional, international, football players, they should have far more pride for themselves and the fans.
MrSpurs
I admire Tims honesty and I have sympathy with his predicament. But the fact is he is completely out of depth and doesnt command the respect of our world class players. He clearly does not have the dressing room. There is no plan, no attention to detail. Its a mess. Levy has managed to phuck us over again. Our best squad of players for 30 years about to be dismantled by shocking leadership.
StillRickyVilla
I was shocked at the line-up before the game, and apart from a bad first 4 minutes, they didn't really bother us until Jan reverted to schoolboy stuff. First shot on target too. In fairness, Tim got it right up til then. Absolutely nothing Tim could have done about any of the 1990's defending we had for all of the goals. This one is done, it's gone. We move on! COYS
SpursEagle
I have to be honest that I'm still puzzled by the team selection today. How did Siggy even make the squad let alone start the game. Lennon as a number 10. May run around a lot but not creative enough or good enough in front of goal to play there. Still not convinced by Bentaleb either. How many times have we surrendered this season. Just a joke. We do not deserve top 4 and I feel that we will slip further down the table. Which if we miss top six and do not take part in the Mickey Mouse cup on thursdays would not be the end of the world. Can see a lot more chopping and changing in the summer. Manager and players.
nothappyharry
I missed the game, but I saw the BBC Sport thread, heard about the mistakes and saw Sherwood's comments. I will watch MOTD later (probably not worth it) and I will write a bigger post tomorrow... But for now, everyone at this club needs to take a long hard look at themselves.
rahn DMC
Just a couple of points from me. Sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture. The game was surely gone when Kaboom was sent off, wrongly in my opinion. But why didn't TS move Kyle N central and Kyle W to RB when Daws went off. Sandro is not a CB, and was on a red card and struggling in that position. We got Le Arse next week and losing Sandro for that game would be unforgivable. I mean Sandro at CB and Walker in MF? WTF?
jacobslad
Ultimately the players have to look themselves in the mirror. They quit in the City game. In the Liverpool game they quit, but then so had AVB. They quit again today. 2/3 of this squad was brought in for a "plan". That was thrown out in December. This is what we are left with. Complete dysfunction. There is no plan. Eriksen spent a week sucking up to Sherwood in the press and did not play. Either stick with Tim and remake the entire team, or get rid of him after this month and give a new manager a chance to win over the players. To just do nothing will mean that Walker, Sandro, Lloris, Vertonghen, Capoue, Holtby, Dembele, and perhaps a couple of others will want out. Adebayor, if he can secure a contract, will be gone. Spurs are not a team. I don't know where it all went wrong but we are a bunch of players all playing for themselves. COYS
peterballb
To get CL football by finishing 4th means nothing to me at this present moment, because the set up and players are not good enough to command that level of football, by the end of this month we will still be on 53pts and out of the europa, this side lacks goalscorers, a back bone of players who are talented yet spineless, the best thing is we drop away and don't even get into the europa next season, today is not why I say this, over any number of games we have looked poor at times 1-1 with Hull. 0-1 to Norwich FFS, how the hell are we going to stand up to Benfica, we just got past Cardiff 1-0. I have never known us to have so many injuries, that go on and on, we have a state of the art training centre, then our medical team is bloody poor then. Looks like being a long road to May, but at least we can't get relegated, but the way things stand at present, next season might be close, unless we have not just a manager who understands what his doing, lets by-pass the january transfer window we don't need any players, really. Over to Tim, Les and Chris, sounds like a game show, keep taking notes Steffen, from number two, to short hand typist.

RickyVilla - I get what your saying, if we can get Van Der Gaal for next year we should, Sherwood doesn't have the experience. But these players should be performing better for the fans or at the very least themselves.
MrSpurs
Steffen tip for you; next time you sit with your note pad, draw a picture of a headless chicken. That sums us up, LV (hall) Gaal, might just be the answer, because Tim Sherwood is not. Pleased for the Special Needs One, at least he can't moan this weekend, jst hope Man City do the lot of them.

Let me take a wild guess who the "I don't care a toss" players sherwood was referring to: Lloris? Kaboul? Verts? Paulinho? Walker? It is really, really sad when there are bad apples in your team and they destruct you from the inside. We have to cut our losses and let them leave. I really have no words for selfish players like that. The only one's that give a damn is friedel, dawson, chiriches, sandro, kane and bentaleb. And maybe eriksen. That's why dawson is in the team every week, even though he is not good enough.
neymar
I really don't know what to think... I was actually really chuffed at half time. Our rookie manager was outwitting the smarmy one and they hadn't had a ***** on target. Then within two minutes two aberrations change the game and then it's all over. The same happened against city. The only plan now has to be short term - beat Benfica and Arsenal and see where it takes us. Anything less then a win against arse and we should jack in the league. Quest thing that could happen is finishing 5th. As for thee players Tim is on about? Walker, Kaboul, Verts, Siggy and possibly Lennon. The worst thing is the players who have shown desire are the ones with less talent such as Naughton, Dawson and Bentaleb. Only Ade and Sandro in my opinion are combining talent and hunger. But I must also add that we have massive injury problems: chiriches, Rose, Dembele, Eriksen, Lamela etc could have made a difference. The injury list has been awful this season.
Sebastian Short
The fact is Chelsea were more street wise and knew their constant dives would con the ref at some point, we don't have that tactical nous. I would certainly entertain foreign referees to take the place of their English counterparts, for way too long the standard of refereeing in this country has been terrible, Chelsea know this and exploit it to a T, Jose the master of winning any way he can.
spurfect one
Dublin - its not so much that tim was the wrong man that was brought in, it's about jealous players not wanting to play for him. When that happens there is nothing you can do really. They know if we don't get top 4 then tim is gone but they don't care because that also gives them an excuse to jump ship.
neymar
Dublin...Not long since i submitted the post match article. Not one of my better ones i feel, touched on the set up, and how yet again it is impossible to guess the team, the fact we did not bring a striker on when chasing the game, Tim's post match comments and the effect they may have, Et;s inability to stand on his feet, the inconsistency of the referee, how we matched them first half and why there was a competition to produce the biggest in game cock up. Walker won. Tied for second between the ref and Vert's.

Very strange team! Two right backs, Siggy?, Lennon pi&&ing about in midfield, Verts at left back a disaster waiting to happen. We survived the first half...just. Why didn't Timmy go on the offensive and confuse them again. Not one of our players would get in the Chelsea side...a few on the bench maybe? We never looked like scoring despite speculative effort from Sandro. Let's face it although we we're cheated by Eto'o's dive Timmy was always going to be outwitted by Mourinho's prima donna divers and the gap in talent. Man You are right behind us so it looks like md-table at the best with another new manager and Verts, Lloris, Sandro and Paulinho all off to better clubs.Roll on next season!!!!!!!!!!

I watched the match today and credit to you guys in the first half , however i knew we were gonna win but expected 1-0 , but then you lots say we "cheated" , now you cant tell me that there was no contact , probably not a red but no contact ??? common now guys . Also rememeber the soft penalties y'all got early in the season , some were very soft like today so if you classify what eto'o did as diving , look at your players too . And talking about referee decisions , if lloris was sent off early in the game , and we didnt have that penalty i guess it would have been fair , and remember the torres red card for that 50/50 in the first game ????? karma is a bitch , however i still want you guys to finish in top 4 , i hate liverpool and arsenal more than i hate you guys , nice tactical game plan for the first half once again .
Don capon
Yes the penalty and red card decisions went against us but as Tim said in his post-match interview that doesn't justify the complete capitulation from the players. Not the first time this season either is it let's be honest. Any doubts I had about Sherwood before today have completely gone after THAT interview. You can see the raw emotion in his eyes. You know what I'm sick of managers these days who skirt away from being honest in their post-match interviews, instead deciding to backhandedly answer questions and refuse to say it as it is. Tim was bang on with that interview. Too many players in our team simple don't care. Vertonghen in particular, his attitude was pathetic and disgraceful today and has been for the last 4 or 5 games or so. You can see it in his body language that he doesn't want to be here anymore, and you know what mate, you're welcome to go from where I'm standing. There's been better players before you to wear the Tottenham shirt and there will be better players after you so get that chip off your shoulder and buck your ideas up or quite frankly **** off as far as I'm concerned. Yeah ok technically Dawson is poor, but you know what he works his boll**** off every single game he pulls on the Tottenham shirt and personally that means so much more to me than ability and day. Dembele, Paulinho, Walker and a few others are in the same bracket as Vertonghen for me. Us Spurs fans sell out every game home and away and sing for 90 minutes regardless of whether we're winning or losing. The fact some players were quite happy to simply walk off the pitch at the end of the game without even acknowledging the thousands of Spurs fans they let down makes me sick. It's questionable whether criticising the players so outright in public was a good idea but you know what I think it was f****** needed. I guarantee for a fact that If you were to sit down the entire Spurs team and ask them each to name the manager of the Spurs double-winning side that only a few of them could manage it. Footballers these days are millionaires by the time they've barely turned to adults and therefore their motivation to give everything on the pitch go missing. One of the most important aspects of managing a football team today is simply managing a dressing room full of egos, and someone like Sherwood won't stand for some of the pathetic attitudes and efforts that we saw today. If I was Tim the first thing I would do is call the players in tomorrow (f*** their day off) and I would show them my Premier league winners medal and I'd tell them that they will never get their hands on one unless you buck your f****** ideas up. It is a privilege to play for Tottenham Hotspur and to play infront of the greatest, most passionate and most loyal fans in England week in week out and not enough of our current players appreciate this.

I am delighted that we got well rid of 'Arry Redknappy, but what's happened since then has gone disastrously. I thought for a bit that things might work out with AVB as he seemed to have a long term plan, but... Oh well. I guess we're well rid of him too. But Timmy looks in over his head. Things went better than expected at first, but apart from the first half today, the last few games haven't been up to snuff. How many years can this club go without resolving the manager thing. My god, that fellow from Grasshoppers to Juande Ramos to take your pick... Jol... they just sort of roll by is some sort of mist.

Don capon, whether AVB was the right guy or not means little. Fact is, I do not recall him being in many people's top manager choices. Neither the press nor many of the fans gave him a chance. At no point did I feel he was ever given the support of the organization. You refer to the 100M. Fair enough. But were the players his choice? A lot has been written that suggests he did not get his players. He wanted Leandro, Moutinho and Willian. That we know. As for the players we got, I disagree. They are an improvement. The issue is that the players were all brought in for a plan with a certain direction. The players who agreed to come in bought in to that. Other than Bentaleb, and some very Redknapp-esque sucking up in the press by players who are not playing, I have not seen very much to suggest that players are happy or are united for each other and for their manager. This may well be the worst 2 year, knee capping, team building exercise I have ever witnessed. Kiss many goodbye, they are already gone. Every player in the WC will be hoping to catch the eyes of CL clubs. WE will be left with Livermore, Bentaleb and others. Onward and upward. COYS

There is one thing about this Spurs team, when we get beaten there are no half measures, we just totally capitulate, and get murdered. First City 6, then Liverpool 5, then City again 5, and now Chelsea 4, we just aren't very good when push comes to shove, and all this after allowing our best player/s to go, in two successive seasons, then buying 7 players for a total of £109M, and we are a bloody sight worse than we were before, in fact we are simply embarrassing against the proper teams in the PL. We can nick uninspired, iffy wins against the dross, but every time we play a proper team we get murdered. This is when our shortcomings in skill, ability, team selection, tactics, determination and the will to win are cruelly exposed. Welcome to the real world of PL management Tim Sherwood, your honeymoon is over old son, the beginner's luck has certainly run out, but to be honest it would take a big wedge of money (that won't be forthcoming), and a magician of the caliber of Dynamo to make this mob into top 4 challengers, we are frankly a disgrace. Can I ask how many convincing performances we have turned in this season in the PL, you could count them on one hand. Does anybody really think that the likes of Van Gaal, or Mancini, or De Boer, would want to take this lot on, why would they, the job is a poisoned chalice, wait for the annual exodus of the better players at the end of the season, then we can start all over again, again.
Frank

@perterballb , after the transfer window , despite doing quite a lot of business , i kind of felt there were more urgent positions than some players bought , i know lamela is amazing but then capoue and soldado ??? i always felt adebayor was a better player an a better fit for your team too , and despite not getting the players he wanted and some injuries which were very unlucky , the manner of some defeats this season left more to be desired , like the man city and liverpool games , and as for AVB he's the past now but i felt he could have prepared a better working condition for tim even if he had to leave , e.g getting the best out of adebayor and spending the 25million plus on a better player to fit in might have helped
Don capon
After the first goal , the way the players reacted showed quite alot , now if chelsea go two goals down with 10 men , the next instinct should be damage control and defend deeper and see the game out but then today it felt like they wanted us to score more which we did , i think a hungry manager who is tactically astute like simeone can handle this spurs team to make them a unit , have my reservations about tim but till then ...
Don capon
Out of the current top four we have lost 6-0, 5-0, 5-1, 4-0, ok we had sendings off In three of them but these kind of results should not happen all in one season. We lack leadership from the top.

WHL93
Trainee Gunner Sherwood might be honest in his interview, but from the start has looked like a fan whose won the opportunity to manage the team in a play station competition.
Chelmspur
Just back from the game… from the back of the old Upper Shed Row 17.. thought the selection was fascinating at least something different!
It was going so well until Verts … can't agree that he's not interested… Another penalty another sending off ? Poor - surely the referee should've enough nous to see that the player who tried kid him 4/5 times before was trying to fool him again ? Game over then…Whether Walker's mistake was comical as well as strategic for the game is debatable.

As for Sherwood if he did say that - shame on him. Managers don't slate their players in public - how do we know he says to the players face to face ? remember his past tactics as a player?
But hold on, did he not say in December that HE knew all the players, club and the fans…. well I'd hate to see him NOT knowing a club. I think we are being fed BS by him - this week was maybe horrible for him if the press was to be believed - Van Gaal on his way?

Whose job is it Timmmyyy to build the team ethic, follow instructions - it's no good telling it to the public -we can't do anything ? Timmmmmyyyy the players may be in the wrong, nah they ARE in the wrong, but you are more in the wrong for slating them off in public!

I clapped the players off as they clapped - thank you whoever sent Nabil back on the pitch to give us a clap!

I have read the whole thread so far - it somewhat depresses how quickly we forget what happened before Vertonghen's mistake and then the penalty… we had the better of them in the first half and countered introduction of Oscar well… so where was the bench to change anything if needed?

A big week ahead - L'arse and Benfica…
Here's hoping for the best - with that in mind why did Tiimmyy attack the people he said he knew so well??!!! Mystery that.

Come on you Spurs, brush yourself up, revitalise yourselves and be ready for Thursday and Sunday and WIN big time - you've done it before so let's get out there and do it again!!!!

WHL93 I couldn't agree more. But the problem we face now is possible complete upheaval in the close season. If Lloris Verts Kaboul Paulinho go who do we bring in? In an ideal scenario I would want everyone to stay for next season, Sherwood included, and see what happens. What Jamie redcrap said tonight was spot on, we don't have a divine right to finish top 4, in fact top 4 would be a massive overachievement. We have the same budget as Everton, same attendance and same standard of first team. The only difference is we have bought players and developed them into world class talent, a la berbatov Carrick Modric and Bale, thus finding ourselves better. But anyone who says we spent £100 million last summer is dilusional. With all the sales and players off the wage bill we made around £10 million. I'd say 5th is about where we should be. Yes the players don't look hungry. But again all this stuff about millionaires before they're 21 doesn't matter as it's the same for every squad. It's not sport it's business and Chelsea and City will always buy their way to the top table. Next year United will too. Liverpool kept their talent while we sold ours. Arsenal are more consistent and better run. 6th place is where we belong, let's not kid ourselves. Anything more than that is a bonus.
Sebastian Short

Chelmspur - okay you obviously don't think much of Sherwood, but he hasn't pretended to be better than he is. The blame lies with Levy, TS all things considered has done a great job IMO.
MrSpurs
I hope sherwood stays at spurs , at least he cares the players don't. Sherwood did nothing wrong today and got it spot on with the tactics. We were the better team until the sulker decided to pass to the chavs when he had all the time in the world to clear the ball, was that sherwoods fault. Eto the cheat goes down like he'd been shot when the contact was'nt enough to knock over a 2 year old, was that sherwoods fault. Sandro falls over as he tries to clear the ball, was that sherwoods fault. Walker decides to set up ba for his second, was that sherwoods fault. Sherwood spoke well in his interview after the game and looked gutted, it was one of the most honest views a manager has given, he was feeling as down as the fans when he said some of the players don't give a *****. Someone on here said we have world class players , open your eyes we have no world class players, the one we had we sold in the summer. We need a massive clear out when the season ends and i don't care what players we get rid of, sandro apart there all powder puff , let sherwood bring in his own players. If we get van gaal i hope we keep sherwood on as his assistant.

@Don the castrated one, if success requires being owned by an oligarch I'd as soon be a failure. Of course, there are various ways to succeed, and many of them are illusory. You may feel that winning matches through an oligarchs monies is success. To me, to feel exhilarated by the money of such a man is akin to a whore being thrilled by the money of the man paying her to spread her legs. Not the sort of thrill I'd call a success. But, to each his own my little capon. Enjoy being fattened by the oligarch whore master.

I just can't help that feel that the massive progress we made as a club from around 2009-2012 has been undone. If you look at the team we had when we initially finished in the Champions league in 2010 it was built around a brilliant team spirit. Players like Huddlestone, Palacios, Corluka, Crouch, Gomes were all average if not poor players technically yet the great team spirit Harry instilled was the reason we finished in the top 4 I believe. Ok, Yes Liverpool and City have massively improved since then but my point is that the great team spirit we had seems to have completely gone. Without team spirit, you are nothing.

I feel a little sorry for Tim. Maybe he is working with a bunch of *****ty characters. On the other hand, i think Tim is way out of his depth. We had one very young and naive manager and swapped him for a slightly older one with absolutely no experience. We are never going to know just how good the current squad can be until we get a proper manager. One that is highly experienced at the highest levels. I suspect though that with a decent manager the actual squad is still lacking enough quality to be in the top four.

The 4-0 very flattering for a poor, boring Chelsea side. Once again we beat ourselves with too many mistakes. We have just got stuffed for the 4th time this season v a top club and all we hear are excuses and wittering about budgets, and sundry excuses, to hide the fact that the board have totally mismanaged the club's assets (it's players, after all we are a football club not a savings bank). We have sold every player of any value in the last 3 or 4 seasons, and bought in some total dross at top prices, jncluding a £26M striker who causes some to do hand stands, after scoring his first home goal from open play in March, some 6 months since his arrival, and a £26-30M superstar, who is yet to play a full PL game, again by March. These two, together with the likes of Chadri (not good enough), Capoue (who the manager doesn't like, so won't play him), leaves us with Chiriches ( currently injured, but when fit is better than Dawson), Eriksen (a quality player, who should be, but isn't an automatic selection, Paulinho who when he first came was quality, but who it appears we don,t know how to use him. This means that we have been at best 40% successful in the transfer market, and we are npw significantly weakened compared to the squad that Redknapp took to the QFs of the CL, which seems an age ago, and it will be an age before we get into the CL again. Of course together with this we are embroiled in Levy's latest successes in the hiring and firing of managers, another facet of the chairman's job that he just isn't very good at.
Frank
I wasn´t able to watch the match and neither check the scoreline via twitter when the match was on. Latter, when checking it, 4-0, rolling down twitter lines I could just feel it was a weird mix of latest City match at WHL (the penalty issue) with a twist of Walker craziness against Liverpool away last season. My point ?? Spurs are not learning from past mistakes, on the pitch and off it and no one, be an individual, be a company, be a public institution can move forward not learning what went wrong at a certain point in time. Some will say this season is the one to forget. I say it is the one to remember when reshapping time comes in. I´d say that Lloris will want to leave and I´ll be saddened by his departure. But I won´t shed a tear for others who want to leave Spurs. As naive as TS is (or can be) he seems to be working hard to achieve what the whole Spurs community wants. Cannot say he had undermined AVB´s position since I was not there to witness this. I am not saying he is the right man for the Hot Seat but whoever comes in must put clear to Levy that he 1) needs time 2) needs players. Managerial job at Tottenham has become a threat for serious and talented managers because of this silly short-term mentality which has been installed at the Club. For God´s Sake, Pep Guardiola could not work at WHL because he couldn´t feel backed-up. If we are not to finish 4th, then it would be better to finish 7th and give United the honours to play EL. Not because I dislike EL (I actually like) but because we need to focus on PL. Sorry for the long post, Lads.

Is it possible to be a shrewd businessman and a football imbecile?
ItalianYiddo
Highgate -- Thanks for the report from someone who was there. You called it how I saw it too. Chelsea, apart from the initial opening, didn't bother us. We looked comfortable up until Jan's slip. If that ball had gone anywhere else, what would we be talking about now? I suppose he had to go for it, it's just a shame he was so out of shape when he swung his bloody boot at it!

Like I said, I was gobsmacked at Tim's selection, but up until then, he got it spot on. Mourinho even addressed this by taking Lampard off at half time. That shows what they were doing wasn't working and what we were doing was.

Tim can do nothing about the goals conceded, he can do nothing about the referee, or the capitulation afterwards. Same with the heavy defeats AVB suffered. I mean, what could he do about Lloris' mad first half in the City game?

The one thing I will say is in reaction to Tim's comments after the match. I don't have a problem with what he said, because we could all see it for ourselves. I don't even have a problem with the notion that this stuff should be kept behind closed doors. What I will say is this: At least now, Tim knows how feckin tough and unforgiving things are. I hope he now regrets his arrogance when he stepped into the role and his thinly veiled parting shot at AVB about management "not being rocket science".

Put it to bed, behind us, let it lie ... whatever! It's done, let's move on! Bring on benfica, and then let's shut up that Galway Gooner by beating the scum! COYS

One more point, together with what ItalianYiddo posted: from a business perspective, Chelsea FC is not a sustainable business unless another rich man takes over when the current owner leaves. Without the free flow of money and with a small stadium in a very urban area, CL won´t happen as they are used to nowadays. Again, unless someone steps in to seize the marketing power Roman Abramovich has created, CFC will return to their actual size. I think Manchester City is another sort of animal...they seem to be more professional on these matters, but I would also like to see the day they must cope with the resources they generate.
AlexSpur
No we are not a top 4 club, for a variety of reasons, so perhaps it is time that we stopped players, and others, talking to the media about what we are going to do to the opposition, and nonsense about top 4 finishes, causing the club to be held to ridicule when we suffer our inevitable humbling defeat, every time we play a quality team, with no doubt more to come, in the rest of March. In truth the season has come home to roost, you can't rely on penalty decisions, and uninspired and dodgy odd goal wins against championship clubs in disguise, all the time. Sooner or later you have to man up against the real teams, a thing we are no longer able to do. Never mind the top 4, we may struggle to hold onto a EL place.
Frank
SpursEagle - I wish he just shut his mouth and not talk to the press - If I was one of the players I would want to lynch him!

Anyway we outsang them AGAIN!!!

Yup I'm you are with me in looking forwards to Thursday and Sunday!!!!

COYS
Highgatespur
Just play out the rest of the season and see where we are. No expectations as we are not good enough for CL. EL maybe on Thursday as at least Kaboul and Verts can play in this game. Will struggle for CB's for 3 games now. FA will not overturn this decision if we appeal. 2-0 v Benfica will give us heart for Sunday. Not expecting much more from this lot this season. Get LVG for the next roller coaster ride next season.
CoysRus
Perhaps, and with all due respect, Frank, some supporters should take your advice and stop publicly talking about teams we "should" be beating or hammering. The ridicule comes from the cloying sense of entitlement that a lot of our fans are infected with.
SpursEagle
COYS CoysRus!!! Was he touched by Kaboul?
Highgatespur
Cape Town -- Jan does not have an ulterior motive. He hacked at the ball to stop his man having a clear run on goal. Yes, he f**ed up, but he F**ed up trying to recover from a bloody slip, mate.

And no, the ref is not crooked. He, like Jan, didn't have a bloody motive, cash or otherwise! He was conned, simple as that.

SpursEagle
Highgate -- fair play to the fans at the Bridge! I was watching it in a bar that also had commentary from the Scotland-France rugby game, and I could hear our supporters singing, cheering the team on above that, and the various conversations from uninterested drunks. Well done you, and all who were there!
SpursEagle
Frank, how are you doing mate.it was a bad today but in my mind better than the others(I have been to ALL of them!!!!), it's a pity that we have so many on the injured list.

In the short time I've been on Vital Spurs I have got to know of your posts quite well - sometimes even BEFORE I read them!
As Spurs fans we all know about ENIC et al - but can we really influence them other than boycott the games? Nah I don't think many will boycott the games do you? Would you give up your season ticket or not go to the away games? I would struggle.
Their replacements? Tan, Allam, Ashley or another faceless investor? I don't know, Frank… who would you rather have than the present lot ?
I know you know say that it was great in 2010 - but wasn't ENIC in charge then as well? DL - he is a pl****r but is he that bad ? Surely you wouldn't like old "Arry back ?(look at QPR now!)

Go on please tell us who is it that you want instead?
We know about the past, especially about the past summer, so please tell us who would rather have and how do you see them replacing the present lot.

Like every time I hear Cher sing "If I could change back time…" I say "Cher dear you can't!".
I would love to hear how you see the future of the club and who you'd like at the helm… because if you don't you are in danger of sounding like a stuck record - surely you wouldn't want that.

So please tell us who, how and what. Thanks mate… here's hoping for a great week here…

COYS

Highgatespur
SpursEagel - good we could be heard - almost for the whole 90mins we were out singing them…. 5 years now boooooo

Excellent response to Cape Town there are far too many accusations….why oh why are the referees so bad especially against us most of the time?!!!

Coops, mate! -- Regarding Bentaleb. In light of your recent article about some young players we have just brought in, do you not feel that persistently having a go at this young player is inconsistent? First of all there was the Capoue thing, and now this? Calling him Tim's pet does not help the growth of this very talented, young, home-grown player.

It's not the lad's fault that Tim picks him, and he has done pretty well for being thrown in at the deep end. He definitely deserves our support, or otherwise, what's the point of trying to bring anyone through.
SpursEagle
Highgate, there were times I could just hear a single, lone voice singing:

Everybody have fun tonight

Everybody Wang Chung tonight

Everybody have fun tonight

Everybody Wang Chung tonight

Everybody have fun

It was seriously out of tune, and I may be wrong, mate, but was that you?
SpursEagle
SpursEagle, if I can add my piece of thought…

I truly have supported the young Spurs to come through the ranks over so many years… Corbett, Barmby, Smith, Fenn, Cooper and so on but there's support and OTT support.

I think Nabil is a good one and will succeed with time. I think his prolonged run in the team has been way too long - almost like flogging him to death.
I also reckon that his run has caused much resentment within an un-established squad with foreign high cost players who don't seem to get a similar chance.
I do support Nabil but I don't think Tiiiimmmmyyy is supporting him appropriately.

Btw, did you know that Nick Barmby's son is with manure?!!I still think of him as a youngster!

Highgatespur
SpursEagle. That was the plan….but along came the second half!!! LOL!!!
Highgatespur
Btw there's always next Thursday and Sunday nights!!!
Highgatespur
I understand what you are saying, Highgate. i completely understand where Coopsie and the others are coming from as well. Damn, I also question that selection myself.

My problem is casting the blame onto the young lad, who has no control over his own selection. This kinda thing catches on. It started as a bit of a joke, but the whole nabil is the "Pet" or the "illegitimate son" is catching on. It's getting out there, and if that stunts the growth of this promising player then why the f** would we do this to one of our own? I've seen the same thing regarding Townsend, and look at the lack of belief that guy is now playing with. He got more support at QPR, and with the dreaded England team, than he does with us, at his home, at the club he was with as a kid! It's feckin crazy!

Blame the manager, not the kid ... oh, and Bentaleb didn't have a bad game at all today. Apart from one shocking pass, there were a lot worse than him out on that pitch. COYS
SpursEagle
Oh, and Highgate! I'm gonna save youtubing that song until we beat the scum! ;D
SpursEagle
Agree, High! I'm moving on! Bring on Thursday ... this can still be a glorious month!
SpursEagle
SpursEagle I don't think others blame Nabil nor Andre - it's the managers - I certainly blame Yoy and Tiiimmmyyy… it is a shame I agree that Townsend gives us frustration but I don't think anyone has had a go at him - just the shots he takes and where they end up - luckily by the look of it he has worked at this!
Highgatespur
Yeah, sorry Highgate. I just think that if we ask people to give Soldado and the others signings a bit of time, a chance, then surely we should afford that same attitude to our young uns.

Take care mate, always a pleasure chatting and COYS!
SpursEagle
True fair enough - likewise, take care! COYS!!!!

why has walker become so undropable? Sherwood is on borrowed time ashame but hey no excuses that 2nd half was a shocking performance Walker needs to be dropped *****er

Hi all! Ok first time poster here so go easy on me please;) especially as this is likely to be a long post! (Sorry had to split to two posts it's that long sorry!) Been reading your posts for ages but after today needed somewhere to get some venting done as dear hubby won't listen as he's not a spurs fan! Been a spurs fan for as long as I can remember. Been to the lane a load until moved overseas, and are lucky enough to have every game shown here live. Where to begin on today. Well I think we need to go back a bit in time. Okay my honest opinion. I wasn't really pro or against AVB, but given we as a club stood behind Arry till the end of the season despite court case and England rumors, didn't think we'd get rid of AVB mid season, even if we were somewhat of a bore to watch. At the end of the day, despite not being abundant in goals scored actually worked out somehow how to defend, and statistically had same if not more points than same stage last year. Figured might take a while, with defense looking more stable and these "world class" signings we could only improve - right? So we get rid of AVB mid season, and TS takes over. Whilst we were questioning some of AVBs tactics and line ups I look at some of the team selections and wonder if I am drunk! Bentaleb, I agree has done a reasonably good job at times and has been thrown in the deep end. Certainly good to give young lads experience, but against the top clubs, a little naive I feel. Today's selection just capped off a strange few weeks. Away to Dnipro, when I saw the team my initial reaction was we went with a weekend team due to innocuous knocks to several first team members. Whether this was to rest them or we were too complacent that we were playing a team that was in off season and got complacent thinking it would be a walk in the park I don't know, but that was certainly my initial reaction. Roll on to today and selections and setup. Well already stated my thoughts on bentaleb. Lloris, lucky with offside call, seems disillusioned with defense in front of him. Can't fault him for arguing with walker about back header. More annoyed that walker blamed Lloris for not getting to it before BA. Walker, reaction to his back header disappointing. All game was all over the place. The commentators here didn't know where he was supposed to be playing, didn't have the best of games but that being said if you don't have a position other than roaming midfielder and you are a right back it's a disaster waiting to happen. Saw him play in practically every position than where he should play. Getting frustrated that he keeps blaming everyone else though when something goes wrong with a pass from him that doesn't come off. Vertongen, ok slips happen, but don't play it back across the goal. Even if he left it the guy would have been the other side of him running away from goal, allowing him time to get up and across no allowing time for Kaboul to get back as he was out of position as he was doing his laces up! That said don't gift a goal and react by smiling and sticking your tongue out and looking up to the sky with a smirk on your face. You might be playing in a position you hate but suck it up. My dad said he's not been the same since he was injured, kinda agree. Also frustrated with him against Cardiff when he was having a go at Fryers for making a mistake. At least fryers is young and gaining experience, but if you can give Bentaleb a chance Fryers certainly isn't the worst natural left back we have at the moment? Vertongens reaction was almost as bad as Adebayors reaction after his penalty miss calamity. Naughton, thought he had a solid game.Has certainly earned his place over walker at the mo.
Spurschick
Continued Dawson, gives his all for the club. Certainly not my choice for speed or world class. My one concern is he is the captain, but there appear to be some players on the pitch at the moment that seem to think they are the captain with the way they are bossing people about. Kaboul, in all fairness when was the last time he played! He was never going to be peak to come in against Chelsea. Unlucky with penalty as eto made a meal of it, but let the guy get the wrong side of him. Siggy, honestly forgot he was on the pitch Lennon, great impact sub that's about it. Had no impact but again out of his favorite position. Adebayor, looks tired, strapped up, needs a rest. Sandro, made a great tackle in the box when down to 10 men. Gave his all given he was one of the internationals that was away in the week in SA and had travelled a long way. Love the guy for his attitude to the club. Genuinely looks like he wants to play for us and cares. Overall too many players out of position. I'd have played fryers at left back and verts in natural position. Couldn't have been any worse! Think of it this way, if walker had been at RB he wouldn't have been where he was to make that stupid back header! It's easy to know things in retrospect. My honest opinion is the guys have given up on the season. I don't think they care for TS, it's almost like they know he's gone if they don't make top 4 so that's exactly what they are playing for. Sometimes I look at Tim's interviews and get the impression he knows he's gone in the summer and has given up as well. I don't think his prematch comments about nobody expecting them to win helped. At the end of the day we have a lot of internationals laying. To tell them they are expected to lose is probably viewed as a little condescending to some off the senior players. Certainly not very motivational. Anyway sorry for the long rant Glad to be here!
Spurschick
Forgot to say, whilst I agree we had some good possession in the first half, other than Sandros shot we still didn't look like scoring!

Tim Sheerwood's attempt at pre-match mind games: “Spurs are not expected to win....” (blimey, was he attempting to get Mourinho complacent or what, yet turned up with a “park the bus” team selection? thereby handing the initiative to Jose's sparkling stars to pounce? How naïve!) < > The Special One's master trick: “Spuds are always a dangerous opposition....” Masterstroke! Result? 4-0! Haha...

Btw, Welcome to the Vital Network Spurschik! And great rant ;) Ok Verts slips, fecking unfortunate, but slips happen; has happened to L. King before him, and even the John Terrys or the Carles Puyols of this world! but Kaboul “doing his laces up” and ball-watching whilst Verts suffers and capitulates on the Stamford Bridge turf? Now that's criminal, especially if you went on to get clumsy, foul a veteran striker in your box, concede a PK and a red card in the process?! Oh my! It's a pity that it really does seem TS read too much of Vital Spurs after all, because there are fans on here(names withheld) who specifically asked for Verts to played at left back and a start for the possibly match-rusty Kaboul! Check the archives mate; too much junk 'comments' and recommendations go on on here, though as you've been a reader all this years, according to you, you'd probably be in the know of that sad fact.

Sherwood was by no means to blame for yesterday in isolation but hes totally mugged himself off since. The succesful managers of the last 20 yrs would have all came out and slated eto, the penalty decision as the key turning points, refered to other big decisions against us in big games, hopefully creating a chip on the shoulder and galvanising the squad, and deflecting attention. TS in his blunt honesty has just alienated, the players in the dressing room, who will be questioning each other rather than pulling together. Hes talked up teams such as city as if we dont deserve to be on the same pitch as, (a team we turned over last year by the way) and has done it again by saying we need to be serious about 4th. Some people will love the honesty, imo it may work in the u21s but i think hes made a tool of himself and is coming accross as a keegan esque manager who is less succesfull, showing he hasnt got the smarts to be a top manager.

Liverpool won't win today, they are not playing, it's FA CUP weekend, unless your a side who got knocked out and have a fixture with some other team who got knocked out like chelsea etc. Liverpool and Man City need to keep winning in the prem, that puts to bed any deluded players who think we are CL material, which we are not, our position in the league is spot on at this present moment. Should they wish to leave at the end of the season, then go. Levy should be putting into motion NOW and arrange for LVG to take over for season 2014-15 season, once the world cup has passed with Holland, it could just be what some players need, then we would see if Tim's heart is in it, knowing LVG is coming a bit like ''I'm considering my future if we don't get CL football'' start considering we won't.

Best moment of the match was Eva treating Eto, what a lovely ass that girl has, she would look good in a old sack tied up with string, your lucky to have her at chelsea.

Tim's interview is the reality, I believe Captain Dawson give 100% but the other players don't look up to him as a leader. We need a Roy Keane type leader that ruffles feathers during a game. Tim also doesn't have the respect a manager should hold. I though we were doing very well until the 1st goal, what baffles me though is playing players out position when you have a player on the bench who is a natural in that given position. Townsend LW, Fryers LB, Chadli/Siggy OM to name a few. If these guys aren't good enough to play their natural positions then why do we employ them?
ENIC OUT
spu for life, LOLO... it is you're, NOT "your" lol
HGH Magic
LOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOL HGH Magic you're the tw*t
spu 4 life
Highgate, you asked me who i would rather have than ENIC and Daniel Levy at the helm of our club. The answer to that depends on what we are, or think we are, or want to be, and what and where we want to be in the future. If we want to run a Building Society or a Merchant Bank, then fine we have the right people in place, and we are doing fine, taking no risk, running the organisation on a shoe string budget, and producing impressive balance sheets at successive AGMs, and paying Mr. Levy his several millions/year, for the benefit of his stewardship. On the other hand, if we want to be a successful football club, going forward, looking towards progressing gradually into the future, even daring to hope for the occasional trophy, or at least realistically competing for one, then perhaps an alternative ownership regime could do better. I of course realise that unfortunately we can't change it, it is out of our hands, but that doesn't mean we have to be happy with it, or to endorse it. I reserve my right to comment in any way I see fit, if the club does well or succeeds, then if you look back you will see, I will praise whoever is responsible, if as at present we are an embarrassing shambles every time we play a top club, then I will criticise. If we continue to sell the family silver, continue to exercise blatant incompetence in the transfer market, and continue with a revolving door policy with manager/coaches, most of whom are less than competent, we will only continue the downward spiral towards mid table mediocrity, and I will take every opportunity to say so in any way I see fit. If we want to look at an example of how to do it right, then Liverpool is that example, they were going nowhere after the disasterous tenure of both Woy Hodgson, and "King" Kenny Dalglish, during which they made a series of bad and very expensive transfer deals, under ownership who didn't have a bloody clue. They have now recovered their position of challengers, due to the offloading of the likes of Carroll, Downing, Adam, Aquillani, Borini, and several others, replacing them with shrewd buys like Coutinho, Sturridge, Mignolet and others, keeping their best and most influential player, putting him on a contract commensurate with his ability, and influence on the team, and employing a coach who knows what the bloody hell he is doing, with previous PL experience, both as an assistant at Chelsea, and as a manager. Most of this has taken place since the takeover by Fenway Sports, a company who know about sports ownership, from their experience in the US, and who have the ambitions, and visions, of taking the club forward as a football club, not as a savings bank. Yes they are running a considerable debt, but they will be buying more tins of silver polish than us into the future. You can have one thing or the other, can anybody please name a successful trophy winning football club, anywhere in Europe that is not operating within manageable levels of considerable debt, and taking some financial risk. Incidentally many of them have already delivered on their "new stadium" projects, to up their revenue streams, theirs are reality, ours is still a vision or a mirage in the distant future, 14 years after admitting the need for improved stadium capacity, and a promise to address it. I am sorry but if the determination was there, then a tuppenny halfpenny sheet metal compay, wouldn't be holding the project up, there are many ways of skinning a cat.

DON CAPON - Thank you for coming on here & chatting with a bit of sense and humility. Shame others don't have your class. Nice one fella..
coopsieyid
I was referring to the post which started with, "I watched the match today and credit to you guys in the first half"....

I've not read beyond that one yet.
coopsieyid
WHL93, and everyone else who now has this respect for Tim because he spoke so "honestly". Why is there no acceptance for his part in the capitulation? If he could see that players weren't putting in the effort he deemed necessary, why weren't they hauled off? Why weren't changes made when we NEEDED a goal or two to get back in to the match? Paulinho for Sigurdsson was not going to bring us any more danger in front of the Chav goal. Why play Lennon, a guy who is well known to have a questionable end product, at number 10? Why play Walker, a guy who can't cross his legs, on the wing? Why play Sigurdsson on the wing, when he's clearly not a winger? Especially when Lennon's best position is on the wing, whilst Sigurdsson's is playing off a striker. Sherwood's words may well have an element of truth in them, but he's making out he had no part in what happened yesterday, which, in my opinion, is plain wrong.
coopsieyid
Highgate - I'm glad somebody (you) finally appeared and said it was wrong for Sherwood to publicly slate the players. All that $hit should be done behind closed doors, but now, when we have our next match, and certain players aren't in the starting line-up, the press have headlines written for them. "X player dropped for lack of effort at Chel$ki".... "X player one of those who Sherwood says don't care" etc etc.. When it becomes clear that there's a rift between manager & sections of his squad, there's only one conclusion to be drawn. It's the beginning of the end!! Funny how this 'honesty' comes to the fore, days after it's 'reported' that LVG is to become our manager after the World Cup??
coopsieyid
SpursEagle - Hi pal. you're right, in respect that Sherwood seemingly got his starting selection correct, via the fact that we looked comfortable (after the first 4 minutes) and went in 0-0 at Half Time. however, sadly for us, Mourinho showed what we all knew, and tactically adjusted his team to counter what we were doing. Once he did that, sadly for us, Sherwood did NOTHING in response, AGAIN! Remember Hull, no subs made, settling for a draw? Tactical acumen, in my opinion, is something Sherwood is clearly lacking.
coopsieyid
SpursEagle - re Bentaleb. I call him "Tim's pet" because that's honestly what I believe. I've been honest enough with my posts in the past, mate. The kid has talent, of that there is no doubt whatsoever. However, all my comments yesterday were based solely upon his performance yesterday. The lad was a liability, and, like others, offered very little. He kept giving the ball away, he continually made silly fouls, and he seems to be immune to being substituted. How many players out of position yesterday? Walker, Vertonghen, Sigurdsson, Lennon, so that's 4 players out of position, 3 of which are clearly terrible in the positions they were asked to play. Those 3 are Sigurdsson, Lennon and Walker. Am I supposed to believe that Bentaleb would not be better at 10, than Lennon? We've seen that Bentaleb can pop off a shot, or thread through a pass, Lennon can't. We've seen that Bentaleb likes a run, Sigurdsson doesn't. We've seen that Walker can't pass or cross, we've seen that Bentaleb can. So, why not think of playing this 'teachers pet' out of position, just 1 player, and allow the others to play in a position that they're best in? Then again, why play anyone out of position when there's clearly FIT PLAYERS on the bench, who can play in the positions that had people playing out of position? sorry, SpursEagle, I wasn't meaning to offend you (or anyone else), I was simply saying what I saw on the day. At least i never slagged the kid off, claimed he's $hit & will never be good enough etc.

Or I could've just said what Highgate said in response to you. Pretty much sums it up.

Quick one, after the calamity of red scouters everyone was out for the manager …. was Timmmmyyyy fearing this after yesterday ? couples that with Van Gaal rumours - thus the 'interview'… he thinks he's bigger than the club - I really didn't trust him as a player and now …. Thursday is another day folks!

SpursEagle - By saying "Tims pet", I'm doing precisely what you want, ie blaming the manager. Like you said, the kid doesn't select himself, just as he doesn't make himself infallible from substitution. Genuinely gutted you misunderstood me.

SPURSCHICK - Welcome to the nut-house.. Just for future reference, do

If you put that at the end of a sentence, BUT REMOVE ALL SPACES, You'll be able to do paragraphs.. :-) COYS

Highgate - I just said exactly the same thing on Ciders thread, re Sherwood suddenly coming out with this 'honesty' a day after it's 'reported' that Van Gaal takes over after the World Cup. I guess Sherwood can now say what he wants, about who he wants, because it won't affect him or his position.

@Highgatespur I can understand your frustration at your teams capitulation, but I was sitting in the East stand during the match and could hardly hear the away fans throughout the game, so maybe you were just out singing the person beside you, unless that was during the obvious fire drill when the majority of the Spurs fans deserted the club that they supposedly love once the 3rd went in.
Blueheart9
Hey Coops-- Sorry for the late reply. Okay, looks like I got you totally wrong re Bentaleb, and like you said, I wasn't having a go or trying to upset you either. I have no problem admitting I was wrong, and I know you didn't unecessarily slag him off by just stating he is sheit etc. not your style!

Thanks for the reply, and it's very refreshing to have a grown up discussion about a difference of opinion. Cheers!

Thanks HGH and Coopsie I had a nightmares s typed away and it didn't fit. Tried taking out all the spaces to get under 5000 characters to no avail. Had to cut out copy somewhere else and split in two. Didn't want to make it three posts lol! And didn't want to start all over again! Perhaps there should be a character count when you type;) women like to talk!!!!!
Spurschick
Right Spurchick ;) Lol Blueheart9, maybe Highgate was high and sang himself hoarse before Vertoghen happened lol s
HGH Magic
So many chavs on here - wonder if they've been rejected by their own because lack of money they have or too much credibility??!!
Highgatespur
fair play to Chelsea, we controlled the 1st half because they let us. i doubt they even got out of 2nd gear. we were toothless going forward and never troubled Chelsea for a second. roll on Benfica.
