Spurs v Benfica: The Report!

Well, I think that well and truly answered my question. Is the League in Portugal really a true benchmark for performance? Yep!.

Not really too sure about the biggest surprise, Harry Kane's starting berth over Soldado, or the fact that Tim called Kane 'Rooneyesque'. Anyway, hopefully not too scathing, but not many positives to follow I'm afraid. Right, let's crack on!.

We started in a 4-4-2 type formation, with Kane supposedly the player to utilise the space in behind Ade and drop deeper to Midfield, whilst I understand he needs minutes, when playing Eriksen Left, I feel Soldado in behind Ade allows for him to play some of those defence splitting passes he has achieved thus far. Strange choice. Add to this because of the lack of space afforded in behind Ade, was Kane the right option, for me it took a wandering type who goes looking for the ball. Something Rooney does well. Kane, with age on his side, maybe in time, but that role takes a lot more than he has as of yet with no space.

Lloris, couple of good saves, couple of day trips out of his box, my, how he likes a trip out. Whilst I can't deny his shot stopping ability, there does always seem to be one or two heart stopping moments per game. Yes he usually gets away with them, but fine lines indeed. Great shot stopper, couple of flaps a game. Gomes springs to mind.

Walker, had a run around, took the worst throw in this season, Kaboul, I'm glad he's back, but what was that all about defending those corners? Vert's, could have been a little more switched on for their opener, did o.k, again Naughton at fault for the opener, two LBs on bench, RB played out of position, Why?. Could Fryers and Rose not share a half each if required?.

Sandro, love your enthusiasm, but we really need to keep 11 players on the pitch. Yes your role is always going to see fouls committed, and yes, you are still getting back up to speed. However, let's try and take the Yellow in the latter stages as opposed to the first 9 minutes, could have easily gone on another day on the totting up process, same as against Chelsea. Paulinho, really, Brazilian flair?, I'd suggest Brazilian Slack. What a load of tosh, could not pass, tackle, shoot. Sorry, it was poor. World cup year mate, it's in your homeland, you interested?.

Well, I've mentioned Kane, but not the fact he had the ball took from him when dropping deep to try and get involved, very deep in fact, one shot later coupled with a fine save from Lloris, corner, goal. He did however link well with Eriksen to win a free kick, a peach of a goal resulted, scored by my MOTM Eriksen. He looks a cut above, yes he's the creative so he should be easy on the eye, but he seems to pick the right options, is always looking to do something, dare I say more composed than the elders?, Maybe the hole reason is his youthfulness, he holds no fear, doesn't over think things nor panics. Shining light in a fading season.

Lennon, like Walker, did some running, he did whip one cross in, and at one point when trying to beat his man, had to stop, the pass back was on, but no, he went at his man again, failed to cross, but avoided the easy option and gave it a go. Fancy that, a winger running at a defender to try and get past him. Ade, long balls hit up to him for us to feed off. Problem being, I think we must have eaten too much at lunchtime, feeding time was definitely over. Always hard for him, their back line was a very well drilled unit. Had one shot that should have at least hit the target but skewed wide, I for one can forgive him that, after all, he's come in and produced well thus far. In fact, of late, he's the reason we have hope to cling onto.

Right, so the long balls didn't really work, but we kept with it. Benfica played the way we have been hoping to witness Spurs play this season. A cohesive unit, not filled with superstars, but attacking at pace as a unit, pressing together, defending as a unit. Confident in one touch passing, quick bursts from back to front. Amazing what can be achieved when playing as a team. We yet again created our demise with mistakes, great pass for their opener, but sloppy passing before and after make no mistake.

Dawson will be gutted, all those long balls he could have punted up to Ade, but the funniest comment of the night has to go to the commentator.'Every time Tottenham have a corner Benfica have all eleven players in their Eighteen yard box, I think they are concerned with Spurs and their corner threat'. Comedy at it's finest, only funny thing, was the fact that I believe if we had put a few balls on their keeper we might have had some joy, appeared a little shaky to me, and he had hardly anything to do. Not sure if we've added to the injury list, we are still in the race for top 4 and the Europa, that said, we're over the edge, fingers clinging on in desperation. Have we the strength to claw our way back up, or like Jesus Jorge, maybe just wave a couple of fingers back and let the downward spiral begin?.

Cider - nice article. Can't argue with any of that. What has shocked me is the team's complete inability to setup defensively nowadays. At the start of the season, we would have been happy to have Lloris, Walker, Kaboul and Vertonghen in the same back line with Sandro and Paulinho shielding. Adding a reserve player like Naughton at LB is not ideal but would never have weakened us that much with the other 6 playing. We would have called that a solid foundation to a team that would allow our flair players like Eriksen, Lennon and Adebayor to have a field day. It just seems like every team that play against us can pick us apart at will and we're likely to concede from every set piece. Nobody knows what their role is in the side and that's unforgivable for Tim.

At the other end, we're now back to where we were under AVB. We're not creating chances, we're not getting crosses in and the biggest concern last night was we can't even push the ball around. At least before we had loads of possession but couldn't get in goalscoring positions. Now we can't seem to do either.

As fans we're just consigned to another couple of months of this and then perhaps we can turn the corner with a new manager. The squad is OK. In fact it's very good if we could just get the right man to lead it. We need a couple of players to finish it but must not see wholesale changes again. We also need a manager who can bring the very best out of guys Lamela, Eriksen, Soldado and Chadli whilst helping to bring consistency to Lloris, Walker, Paulinho, Dembele, Vertonghen etc.
muttley
We seem to be going backwards and we might as well forget winning any game playing like this. Spurs are in real danger of losing out European qualification for next season. The injuries and form is the worst I've seen for years. Normally I'm quite upbeat but I can honestly say I've never felt so dejected. We need someone with bags of experience to help out Tim. God I wish we still had AVB. COYS!
James1
As for Kane, whilst he did no worse than many others I'm not sure the experiment worked tactically. Having Eriksen central and one of Townsend, Chadli or Rose operating on the left would have made much more sense.
muttley
Levy will need to pull something out of the bag. He will be lynched next season if he doesn't bring in a top coach and a kitty to bring in top replacements. Roll on the WC. COYS!
James1
Sherwood has got to go! Keeps getting the tactics wrong but worse still has clearly lost the dressing room. Anyone got David Pleat's phone number?
ParkLane67
You're right Mutley. We needed width..Rose is a natural winger and could have done a job there as well. COYS!
James1
James - I think you can always bring in top replacements. What we need as well though is a manager who can bring the best out of the current players. We should be the envy of other teams with players like Lloris, Walker, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Paulinho, Sandro, Eriksen etc. We should be the team that looks like it is only a couple of players from greatness. Instead, we look like a club in complete disarray with a Sunday pub manager in charge.
muttley
Sherwood is so far out of his depth im actually starting to feel sorry for him. I cant think of one positive thing to say. The dressing room has quite clearly gone. Tims notion that if each individual is "up and at em" this somehow will translate to a cohesive team performance is laughable. Illustrated perfectly last night - totally reminded me of watching a typical england stone-age performance v a team like spain. Completely unprofessional interviews, losing it bizarrely on the touchline. Any semblance of respect the players might have had for tim will have evaporated almost as quickly as our exit from the various cups under his management. Shocking again from levy. Clueless handling of the club on the football side. As has been said our only hope is to bring in a top experienced manager fast to unite the club. Its currently a shambles yet bizarrely we have our best squad of players ever.
StillRickyVilla
The sheer passion created by the north london derby gives us a punchers chance in the next game. But make no mistake this season is over. Wake me up when this is over.
StillRickyVilla
Spuds is a useless team. after spending all the cash 110 M pounds you still can't beat a feeder club to Chelsea. In the year Chelsea won the UCL they thumped them home and away. last season they beat them again to win the Europa league. You lot thought it was an easy task playing them. if you spend over 100 M you have to deliver in the pitch. Come Sunday we will come to your backyard and whip your sorry ass to the 3 points. you deserve to be in the Championship
papsy
Mutley yes that is my thinking too. RDB or LVG will be able to put a system into place that everyone will understand and more importantly get the players to express themselves. The replacements I'm talking about are the fringe players and possibly 1 or two first team players. COYS!
James1
I have faith that one day Sherwood will get it right, it'll be harder for him not to when he tries something new every game...and that's the problem, I mean he's probably already got it right for the personnel we have and then changed it again the following week. He needs to base it on a compromise between what he wants to do and the players we have and then just stick with it and tweak rather than make drastic changes every game. I'm struggling to be critical of the players when they just look baffled all the time. Paulinho in particular we know is a good player, but clearly wants to be behind the striker. Eriksen is our most creative and snappy passer but is isolated out on the left? Why not give Sandro an outlet by having Eriksen beside him, put Paulinho behind the striker and have Townsend left so we have direct pace out wide and creativity and scoring ability running through the middle? At the very least I just wish he'd have faith in something and stick with it because at the moment he just looks like he's panicking and clueless and a couple more games like last night and there'll be no doubt he is.
flipper
Another Gooner troll.. they only post on here when we loose a game.. How many trophies they won in 9 years..that would be NIL... this gooner should go to chavs, as mentions them and not his / her own team...what was their result against a Euro Club? this week.. lost again... muppet..
Block D Spurs
To me they are clear favourites before the game but I didn't think again we would make it as easy as we could from them. We pick the wrong players and played the wrong shape. Fryers left Townsend in front of him and Eriksen central would have helped. Sherwood i of course limited by his in experience, and also by the August window which set us problems when we wasted so much money of too many wrong players and didn't buy players who would produce this season. Many things need to happen for this to be as bad as they appear to be right now.
thfc1006
By Sunday, am sure we are going to better our goal difference. At least a 5-0 will help us catch up with Looserpool and that west London club. not forgetting the guaranteed 3 points. LOOSERS! hahahahahahahhahaaha! Don't forget we are in the FA Cup will surly end the trophy drought
papsy
Sandro and Paulinho playing central in a 2 is never going to be that good. they are too similar in many key ways, limited by lack of pace. Paulinho was a poor signing because he doesn't want to play for us. With his mind right he could be a good asset but never in a two man midfield and the problem is playing him you need to often not play Eriksen or Dembele who will both offer more, more often. I think they guy is a waste of money largely along with Lamela, Soldado and Chadli. August was the start of our problems.
thfc1006
Flipper.. TS won't have the time to get it right.. he clearly needs to get his top level coaching badges, and start managing at a championship.. League 1 or 2 club. Then he could be top level in 3 or 4 years.. Or accept a position as assistant manager / coach to LVG or similar manager, learn, get his management badges.. then in 3 years will have some good tactical ability, and know how to handle top international players. At the moment his is not good enough.. sad but true.
Block D Spurs
Stop trying to insult people when you can't even spell small words. It's loser, dumbass...you'd think a gooner of all people would know how to spell the word that's defined their recent history...
flipper
muttley..I too believe we have good players, just too many occasions where only one or two are putting in the type of performances we know they are capable of. We have some who have excelled in foreign leagues, some under performing and a constant desire to continually chop and change formation. We need a strong manager who can bring the performances back out of these players, tweaking formations as required. I believe the talent is there, i just don't believe Sherwood is the man to pull it back out of them.
Cider spurs
Spuds the only team to spend 100 M and are worse than they were before. AVB must be laughing his head off. considering all the compensation money he has in the bank
papsy
@flipper heard of the word typo error? feel sorry for you lot
papsy
papsy please turnover for the spuddies pls pls pls? I need to go 10 points ahead of you Scums, ok? KTBFFH.
HGH Magic
Is this a crises meeting or what? everyone here seems to know better than ya pathetic manager. LOL
papsy
Block D, yeah I've pretty much come to the same conclusion, and even though I hope I'm wrong he's running out of time to prove it enough that we could have any confidence of going into next season with him still in charge. It's not just the results, it's the manner of the results and that he's had the job long enough now that he should be certain how he wants the team to set up and play.
flipper
Thfc1006 those players u call a waste of money are all top top players regular internationals for brazil, argentina etc. We have the quality (bar possibly at left back) they just need managing correctly. None of them have faith in where the club is going, none of them have respect for tim and they are being told to go out and run about with no direction or tactics as we are clearly too good to worry about the opposition or our own pattern of play for that matter. Shambles. The frustrating thing is we DO have the players but levys judgement on the management side of things is appalling.
StillRickyVilla
Papsy..."typo error" that is not a word my dear friend, that is two words. Keep up!. No need for thanks, I understand you have enough on your plate supporting the nomadic tribe from Woolwich.
Cider spurs
papsy, yeah sure it is...a typo twice on the same word, you keep telling yourself that, dumbass.
flipper
We certainly have had two managers managing them badly StillRicky, the second one has an excuse, but the poor management is only part of this problem. Buying the wrong collection of players in the first place is the bigger problem i think
thfc1006
papsy..."crises".....That's a crisis right there!. Stick around, i'm certain with a bit of guidance we can get you to learn your ABCs before the days end.
Cider spurs
thfc1006, definitely true about buying the wrong collection of players. With the money we received we finally had the chance to buy the players the team needed rather than continuing the 'buy to develop' philosophy. All we can hope for now is they do at the least fit that philosophy and the majority come good going forward. I also hope they're given a chance to do that and there aren't too many outgoings in the summer and we bring in the experienced LB, extra CB and striker we desperately need.
flipper
@Cider spurs Well thanks a lot. i have tried my best considering English is not my first language. how about trying your hands on Portuguese? yh i thought so, your sorry ass is lost
papsy
I was absolutely flabbergasted by yet another insipid, disinterested and gutless display by our team (with the exception of Eriksen and Kaboul who at least tried to change things up a bit) last night. I hoped a night's sleep would give me a different perspective on it this morning. Unfortunately I was wrong. I grew up as a young lad going to Spurs not wondering if we would win but wondering how many we would win by. By the end of the 80s that had changed to wondering if we'd win. Through the 90s and early 2000s we were pretty dire but NEVER, EVER did I go to Spurs like I do now - wondering how many we will lose by and hoping against hope that we don't get yet another battering. That is unacceptable for a club with our perceived ambition. We are a shambles from the top of the boardroom all the way to the pitch. Pathetic, gutless, clueless, directionless and embarrassing from the Chairman to the players and everyone in between. They should hang their heads in shame just like we have do to game after game as fans of what was once a football club people aspired to be like. Not anymore.
SpuriousLife
papsy..LOL!.
Cider spurs
It is time to pull the trigger on Tim. He is a donkey and out of his depth. this is the worst spurs team for a very long time. All i ask is that each player is in their natural position. Then the team selects itself based on form and ability. We have good players although we have been unlucky with injuries. For me eriksen is our best player, the new bale, the lock picker, the playmaker. We must build a team around him. He must play in the middle in the pocket - the old van der vaart position in harry's 4-4-1-1 - and never on the left. It was demented to have kane as the number 10 ahead of our best player. At chelsea, he had lennon in the position, when chadli could have played there. Jozispur Jozispur
Duma Gqubule
Flipper I think we probably needed 4 last summer, the problem is we bought 7 and only 1 possibly 2 look like good buys now for any number of reasons. We needed the AM to open chances up a left back and a good goalscorer. We didn't buy a left back and we bought the wrong striker. I can see 3 of the 7 leaving, possibly 4 plus Verts and Lloris this summer. Too many mistakes and you can't simply blame it all on Sherwood as some appear to be driving at. It's all about CL going forward and we have made too many mistakes as a club to make it this season and last.
thfc1006
Can't disagree to much with the article, Kane as number 10 it the final nail in the cofin for me. Many are stating Tim has lost the dressing room, I don't really think he had it in the first place. Even more embarrassing was Jenas talking more sense than what comes out of Tim's mouth. We need to ride this season out, nothing to play for and to be honest I'd prefer to give up 5th spot so next season the new manager has less to concentrate on which in turn will hopefully get us back on track. Since making the CL we've gone backwards and we are now the laughing stock. Levy is the common denominated in everything that has gone wrong in recent seasons.
yiddyboy
Tim is doing a great great job. Serves you spuddies right; a naïve coach for a naïve 'club'. COYS lol
HGH Magic
I hope Levy wakes up this morning and realise he needs to fix this now. Tim needs a helping hand before it all implodes. Maybe Freund could take over for the remaining games. COYS!
James1
Yiddyboy re: Levy. I couldn't agree more. Levy needs to back down from football affairs pronto. We need a footballing man to recognise a good coach who can do a job for Spurs. Enough is enough..Levy and ENIC are doing great in terms of finance but he is making a mockery of this club. COYS!
James1
Levy won't do anything for now and when (if) he replaces Sherwood in the summer it will be done to ensure ENIC's financial wellbeing and stability first and footballing success second .
sandroman
Morning Spuds, you were all over the shop last night, something is really gone wrong at your club. The players you have should be doing so much better than they are.

Anyway putting together a scouting report over on Vital Arsenal, did I hear that you picked up a few injuries last night? Ade, Sandro and Naughton (no loss there in fairness) are all doubts for Sunday?

Galway Gooner
For me, our biggest problem is that we don´t have good enough creative passers of the ball in the middle of the park..too predictable..too easy too read..With a player like Huddlestone forexample we had an alternative too open teams up with good penetrating passes long or short..with our holding midfielders we have now it`s plain boring short passes sideways. Paulinho is a mediocre player for me, a "glamourous" and expensive Jenas! Could have bought Jordon Mutch for half the price and a better player. We need too get Lennon on the run forward on the right touchline a whole lot more! Same with Townsend on the left. Harry Kane is certainly a player i like! He`s a good hold up player although had hoped he would be a little stronger in the air, but if you give Kane as much time on the field as a certain Soldado, i`m certain he would bring a whole lot to the team, not least goals! Invest more in english players and give Tim more time! I`m confident he will get it right given time too mould his own team. I like what he says and thinks, and too be honest it`s great too see a manager show some passion and anger just like myself after a match like the two we have just witnessed. It`s exactly what Tim says..work for their money and future on the pitch or get lost! Honest and refreshing! In Tim we have a talented manager just like Rodgers who can build a good and stable future..don`t throw it away with a dutch pensioner!
Martin The Viking
James , not looking for an argument but Levy doing great in terms of the financial side of things benefits no one but himself and his boss ,none of us will ever see a penny of their financial success .He can step down but Lewis will replace him with someone else who serves Lewis' needs first .I know it sounds negative but whilst ENIC are owners , footballing success ,other than staying close enough to the pack to ensure the gains they have made in their 14 years is maintained , will be a by- product of their ownership .
sandroman
It was all going wrong anyway but yesterday proved how far wrong we have gone. This season looks like being a waste. We have now had two managers and still getting poor performances, AVB was very rigid his tactics and Sherwood has a total lack of tactics. These players don't know what to do. We could have signed anyone else in the summer and we would still have the same problems, we played Kane as a number 10, naughton left back which I could understand if Fryers was kept as CB cover incase of an injury. Sherwood is digging himself deeper and deeper but we could have had better players but the same results would have happened with Sherwood in charge.
Kong
We look lost. Rudderless. Uninspired. Unmotivated. Tired. Regardless of player ability that is the managers fault.
Kong
James, Freund was whom I was thinking of when AVB left. As an interim manager, But Tum wanted it long term! No way Levy will swallow his pride and displace Tim. We are not ina relegation battle, so Tim will be allowed to see the out the season. My biggest worry is that the talent at the Lane is being made to rot (in a world cup year) and even with the a new manager in summer, it may not be so easy for players to recover from the confidence bashing of this season. Many will want out. :(
Critical_Spur
holtby better than all our midfilder we have now paulinoo passin is poor lennon does nuffin now days when was the last he did anything good
stephenspurs1210
un-organised at the back, disjointed through the middle, light up front . Benfica were better organised, they attacked with pace and intent, I cant forgive the fact that the tallest player on the field scored from 2 set pieces, its almost like Benfica were trying to aim for him. Sorry Tim, i'm confused with what you are actually doing on the training ground. Although he's not solely to blame, our team doesnt seem to be able to pass properly, short or long, through balls. If your setting up a counter attack the ball has to be played into the stride of the player not behind him so he has to stop.
coys1717
As a team, all credit to Benfica who should be an inspiration to us in terms of a team unit and work ethic, combined with technical quality
oxfordspur
For the record I though Kane was one of the better players on the pitch yesterday, although he indirectly contributed to them scoring. His work rate was good, he was winning aerial battles. Pauliniho on the other hand, WTF is up with that guy, cant retain possession, cant pass, cant tackle.
coys1717
Sandroman all good mate. I hear you. ENIC have brought financial stability to this club, which I'm thankful for and the training facilities is the best in Europe so we're told, but yes I would love the owners to spend big, but can we do it? I fear another Leeds or an Irving Scholar situation. Critical you may be right but maybe he'll feel the heat by his bosses. The only positive I can think off is we can concentrate on one objective - CL position for next season. COYS!
James1
Looks like the days of free flowing football (3 or 4 years ago) are over for a while.

I've put a poem on the end of the other Benfica thread to help find some perspective.
Geofspurs
James1 - Levy will always be involved in football affairs, thats the problem. He loves it!!!
Tim will remain until the end of the season although we should already announce the new manager as City/United could also be looking come May. Get the green light from Van Gaal and make an announcement, if Tim doesn't like it let him quit and stick Dawson in charge as player/manager until May. It doens't matter who's in the hot seat now, this season is over interms of achieving top4/silverware. At least then the current bunch will have a few months to think about whether they want to give it a crack with Van Gaal or not.
yiddyboy
It's starting to look at lot like christmas, we just keep giving other teams presents. The saving grace is, we only have in total another 10 games to suffer. Tim your making a joke of Jesus in your interview ''they are better than us, he lacks class etc'' interviews sounding more like a mini Harry Redknapp, well they do to me. We could go back over post's made when this draw came out, most said ''we may beat Dnipro, but we won't beat Benfica'' so last night was not a surprise. Mentioned to Coops ''coops what did i say in a post, i can't go through another season like this one again regardless of the remaining season's results, he has to be replaced, this can only go 3 ways shortly, only my gut feeling is unless we step up to the plate, the wrong way'' Read more: http://www.spurs.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=7516674#ixzz2vvYrmdU1 The players look totally demoralised and lacking in confidence, not only within, but in others, this clear the air meeting after chelsea, that never had much bearing last night. Levy putting Tim in charge, was one a cheap option at the time, having moved AVB on. He had no intention of going for another clubs manager, that involves a cost to him, so he sounded out LVG, who is interested, but not at the time doing two jobs, taking Holland to the world cup first, I just hope Levy has him very much in mind for next season, we need a manager/coach, who has class and can make us better in the future.
spu 4 life
James1 - we might have the best training facilities in Europe but the actual training we do in those facilities must be the worst in Europe. I've seen better formations, tactics and performances at my local park on a Sunday morning.
SpuriousLife
Look on the bright side, at least we now know that Lennon nor Kane are No10's. Ok, we all knew that anyway but we've had our Tim confirm it.
yiddyboy
I missed the game as I was moshing it up at the stiff Little fingers gig last night! I was gutted they were on the same night as spurs, but in hindsight I think I'm glad I missed it!
was it really that bad?? I did drop my pint when I saw the teamsheet, again! Why was Robbie not playing? Confidence boosting goal then dropped for 2 big games! Turin.... Always wanted to go there. Ah well!!
Dublin Hotspur
Galway, this morning we are still in Europe. On Sherwood, he was only ever going to be here as a filler until the end of the season, that remains the same. The damage was done before he came along. I had us down for 6th at the start of this season and we are ahead of that at the moment, still think we will finish 6th. You can't screw up as often as we have as a club in 18 months and expect to go forward. Let's learn from this, buy the right type of player in the summer and try to move forward with whoever our new manager will be. Kong playing Kane at number 10 is not our problem, our problems started at the point when Harry went to court, we have made a series of poor decisions since then, the result as we see now. We are likely to finish 1 place lower than last season with similar points, we are not in free fall but this series of bad decisions are moving us backwards. How do we move forward? I think Critical makes a good point Stefan Freund would have made sense until the end of the season.
thfc1006
I wonder what tactics we will use on Sunday and what experiments we will see, in the last two games we have seen Walker as a RW, Kane as a number 10, what surprises will we see on Sunday.
Kong
It was just awful! I can't wait untill next season. Change of manager and personnel definetly needed!
spurticus87
SpuriousLife I couldn't agree more. COYS!
James1
At least there's a great days racing at Cheltenham to cheer me up!
Dublin Hotspur
THFC1006, welcome to the forum as you said in a previous thread you was new, its like I already know you :). I never said Kane was the problem overall, Sherwood cannot be immune from criticism even if we knew he is a stop gap. We have various problems and Sherwood is doing further damage even if it was bad before he come along. We have not improved since AVB. It is time to make the right decision and appoint the right manager and structure.
Kong
Well, what can I say. Gutted. I was actually more upset, angry and disappointed last night than I was over the Chelsea game. The reason being that it blatantly clear that TS is nowhere near ready to manage a premier league club. His team selection was a joke. His “tactics” were a joke. Anyone can just say pump it long to ADE who didn’t win a single header all half but he stuck with it. His substitutions were shambolic. Kane should have been off at Half time FFS. Eriksen BEHIND PHUCKING ADE and Townsend or chadli on the left. Then after 60mins when it was clear ADE was having another off day bring on Robbie as the no9. But no. He waited until the game was beyond us and made a few ineffective token changes

He’s just not cut out for it at all. The players have given in, but in all fairness they just aren’t good enough. We have average all over the pitch. TBH vertonghen can go to barca, paulinho can happily go to Madrid, walker can go to Monaco…we need a change. We are clearly stuck with TS until the end of the season as there is no point changing again. BUT if LVG comes that won’t be until after the WC, so we are talking July FFS. So no proper pre-season again, players that he doesn’t know so guess what….another year of transition. Levy has completely ruined this club now. One bad mistake after another. I’ll be honest the I feel now im not even bothering watching it on Sunday. It will be just another 3-4 goal hammering.
hudderspur
Dublin it was awful mate. Eriksen was the only beacon of light in terms of attacking threat. Ade should have hit the target but went for power rather than placement. Can't get any worse can it? COYS!
James1
Oxfordspur that's true about Benfica, they were clear favourites to win this tie as they are a better unit, stable, confident and had positive momentum coming into the game. Add it all up and they were always likely to be hard to beat. It's not over yet, but equally we could be on the end of a hiding over there.

Glad you enjoyed the gig Dublin. How's the ears? Still ringing lol. COYS!

Still ringing! Great gig! They've still got it!

From a Chelsea fan, I wish you luck on Sunday, all things come to an end at sometime. Hoping for a result against a Jose team that hasn`t lost a league game in 75 matches and playing against the best team in Portugal right now, was never going to be an easy task. The fact is that Spurs will now be underdogs against your fiercest rivals and have nothing to lose. In football as painful as it is sometimes, you never know what is around the corner. 1-0 Spurs. Do us both a favour.
Blueheart9
Kong yes Sherwood must accept criticism, but he is not the cause, he should never have been put in place. Yes we need to get it right next time, the last two managers and the appointment of Baldini and the August window have added up to what we have now, I am sure there are other reasons, like the players not playing well more often than not and poor attitudes.
thfc1006
Hudderspur - I said the same about the Arsenal game. I don't think I can bring myself to watch it as we are playing so poorly that a defeat by less than 3 clear goals will seem like a small victory. How sad is it that we've sunk so low?
SpuriousLife

Before the chelsea games tickets on Stubhub for the Arsenal game were in the £100's, today there are starting from £55 upwards.

I agree THFC1006, Sherwood is not the cause but he is contributing to it. Levy appointed him so he should take responsibility. Wonder if any fans will show their anger towards Levy on Sunday.

Kong I hope so. This is the only way to communicate with Levy. We have been through the mill long enough. About time Levy answers to the criticism that rightly points towards him. Levy wake up and smell the coffee. COYS!

Exactly James1, this is not a one off, it is happening too many times with managers. Levy needs to know we have had enough, the buck stops with him.

Tis with a heavy heart that I say I hoped Spurs won...that way confidence would be high for the North London Derby...but alas....u lost. Maybe defeat will galvanise you lot.
Gian-Franco/Luca
Yee haw!! This was what our beloved manager had to say after Soldado had scored the winning goal against Cardiff, thus getting Sherwood another 3 points that make it 'appear' that his results have been good (In total, he's actually only won 2 more games than he's lost)..

‘I was delighted for Robbie, he’s a great character around the place,’ said the Spurs boss. ‘The boys love him and want him to do well.

‘If I could have picked anyone to score that goal it would have been him. I have stuck by him, I believe he will come good and I maintain that.

‘We’re just hoping this is a platform for him to go on and score 20 goals between now and the end of the season.’............

Yep, that's precisely why you've ignored him for 160 minutes after that statement, yeah? I'll go read your article now, Cider. Hope it's more enjoyable than lastnights mishmash of Wimbledon 1988 tactics & ability. Not that it can be any worse :-(

The whole fecking world knows 4-4-2 doesn't work, especially against quality European (and International) teams. There's a reason none of the best & biggest clubs use it, because it's W4NK!!

I wish Sherwood would have nutted the Benfica manager, that way he would have got a stadium ban and be nowhere near our team.

Went to the match last night and thought about posting when I got in but felt too angry so decided to let the dust settle and see how I felt this morning. No, better I'm afraid. I've tried, really tried to be positive throughout this shambles of a season and call for patience and a little perspective. However I can't go that anymore. Last night was pathetic, and represented not one thing of what Tottenham Hotspur should be about. There's no point naming each player individually, we all know how badly some of them are playing. But what's so disturbing is the lack of a plan and and ethos of a playing style. I really enjoyed watching Benfica last next and yearn to watch us play with that organisation and a belief in what they apwere doing. Every single one of them knew what their job was, and stuck to it. Their control and passing of the ball was evidence that it can be done. Even with players who may not be world superstars. You coach them properly, make them aware of their responsibilities and impress on them that if everyone does it, then results invariably follow.what the hell do we doing on the training ground every day? Because whatever it is isnt good enough. I'm afraid Tim isn't a manager/coach for this club. He was put in a invidious position by Levy and took the job. I don't blame him but he's so out of his depth it's frightening. Last night was the final straw for me. We may even win Sunday, unlikely as they may seem, but it will just paper over the cracks. We need to find a man of experience, character, and most importantly a leader for everyone to follow. But who will want to work in that system Levy has created? It's officially a mess!
Paxton Chris
OK Cider, I've read it now, thank you, very good as per usual. One thing I'll take exception to, though not your fault.

"In fact, of late, he's the reason we have hope to cling onto.".....

Hope to cling on to? Not me, mate :-(.

I couldn't give a feck what 'Jesus' did on the sideline, Sherwood embarrassed himself, and the club, when he had yet another fecking strop infront of the worlds cameras. I wouldn't be at all surprised if 'Jesus' made that 3 finger gesture because he was sick & tired of seeing his players getting persistently fouled, and made the gesture as if to say "you can try to kick us off the park, but our 3 away goals have just put you out".. Either that, or he was pointing out how many cups we will have gone out of since our new manager took over :-(.

another saddening thing = A certain somebody used to constantly tell us "Spurs were 7th when AVB got sacked. Yep, and we were 5 points off 4th, and 8 points off top. We're now 4 points off 4th, but the team above us, Man City, have 2 games in hand, which they'll likely win, and climb to the top of the league. So really we're looking at Arseanal as the 4th placed team, and they're 6 points above us, and Chavs top the league, 13 points ahead of us. Not quite the 8 point gap that was there when we sacked our last manager. Let's face it, we've gone backwards, and fast!! Come Sunday, I don't think it's going to be a case of "from behind the couch". It's going to be more like "from a room with no TV, and still facing the wall".

2 (TWO) Leftbacks on the bench, and play someone out of position instead of using a fit & able Leftback? He only needs to drop one of them & select 2 'keepers for the bench, and we will have well and truly turned full circle to when we had Redknapp in charge.

So disenchanted :-(

I'm sorry to say but we look a shambles at the moment. As I said yesterday we have 22 players who are either not fit, out of form or injured. Not good. I'm actually disinterested, even in the Derby. However, should we win that, I would send the reserves to Portugal and focus on Soton. The fact is, should we win our next two games, it is entirely likely that Arsenal will lose their next two (us and then away at Chelsea). We could still turn it around, but catching Arse is our only hope.

Well that's it then, March 14 and Spurs season is now effectively over, with probable 7th place PL finish, when Everton and Man Utd inevitably overtake us, and dumped out of all 3 cup competitions with barely a whimper. We really ought to congratulate those at the top of this club, that have taken us on the interesting journey from potential relegation when Ramos was sacked, then progress to the QF of the CL, knocking both Milan clubs out on the way, then the lightning regression back to the level we are now at. Things could of course get worse before they get better at the current rate of regression, a contributory factor has to be the actions and policies of the board, after the sacking of Redknapp, whether justified or not, their disasterous hiring and subsequent firing of a Chelsea reject as manager, allowing him and Mr. Baldini no doubt with the assistance of Mr. Levy, to squander £109M of player sales receipts, on 7 players who have failed to raise the standards, or improve the team, followed by the desperation appointment of a well meaning amateur with no experience, qualifications, or track record, to be allowed to manage a top 6 PL club, it would never happen at any of our rival clubs. This together with the sale of every player we had of value following the CL success, and the failure to adequately replace them, has inevitably led to a major fall from grace. If we continue to go backwards at the current rate we may well be congratulating ourselves on retaining our PL status in the not too distant future, rather than the OTT ambitions of CL football we have kidded ourselves were possible in recent seasons. What would be the earthly point of scraping into the CL only to be shown up as Everton were, on their only foray into it several seasons ago. If we can't hold our own in the EL, we sure as hell would get humiliated in the CL with this team. It is now time for a total appraisal of where we are, and where we truly want to be, and the actions required achieve it, without the false promises and lies from those at the top, all designed to keep fans on board, and enthusiastic. The board need to declare their real ambition, then need to appoint an experienced, proven manager/coach, providing that in our current state we are still able to attract one, and set a realistic budget, and allow him to do his job without interference. We then need to weed out those of our "stars" who would rather be playing for someone else, then source, scout, and sign some honest, enthusiastic professionals, who actually want to progress to a top club and would cherish the opportunity to wear the shirt. These players would not necessarily be foreign so called super stars, in fact they are unlikely to be, as many of these lack the mentality to play in the EPL. We then need to instill a culture of determination, battling quality, and pride, in playing for Spurs, and putting in a proper shift in every game. Importantly we need to find one or two leaders, who can inspire or bully and frighten players into giving top performances. Although a team sheet containing names like Vertonghen, Kaboul, Soldado, Capoue, Chadli, Lloris, Paulinho, Eriksen, etc.etc. looks impressive, as does the sum total of their transfer fees, the actuality is that many of them have failed to deliver, either due to repetitive injuries in Kaboul's case, or due to an apparent lack of the required mentality, and dare I say the overall ability to succeed in the EPL. One thing that may please some is that not only will we certainly miss out on the CL, we may well miss out on next season's EL, and be denied any European football at all, for the first time in a long time, another sign of falling standards.
Frank
Last night, one team which incidentaly cost a fraction of the other team knew what they were doing and the other team didn't. One team has been properly coached and the other team hasn't. This is obviously not all down to Tim as he hasn't been in the job long enough. Last night showed me the value of a top coach. If we get one and and add in some sensible investment then we can compete with anyone. Sunday will be interesting but I feel that the game against Southampton will be the one that could see the end of Tim. A young hungry team that I fully expect to play us off the park. It might be enough for Levy to make a decision and let the fans know what is really going on at our club because at the moment it is an absolute shambles from top to bottom.

Man City don't play 4-4-2. It is stated as a 4-4-2 when the graphic shows the team before a game, but Silva is always posted as the LW. He does NOT play there. He instantly pushes inside, and they become a 4-3-3 with him being the string puller. The width on the left is created & provided by Clichy, with Navas providing the wing play on the right. Pellegrini uses only 1 winger, Navas. It's basically Toure, Fernandinho, Navas
Silva, Aguero, Negredo.

Not that it fecking matters, because we don't support Man City, and we don't have a manager, they do, and they have a plan, and a system that all the players know very well, and a squad that allows players to come in and out without it making the slightest bit of difference to how they play. That's called 'proper coaching & management'. We could sorely use some of that!
coopsieyid
Jonathan, it's not just the coach I think but the type of player you are buying, I think most of the opposition at this level tend to buy good athletes, players with quick feet. I am not convinced we have done that in the most recent past, say 2-3 years. Modric is a great example of a good athlete with quick feet. Not too sure the brains on some of ours are connected to the feet either. Looks like Frank sums the situation up perfectly.
thfc1006
Sherwood alleges that the Benfica coach "lacks class", due to the lack of a hand shake at the end of the game. Sherwood is definitely determined to give the journos some fodder at the end of every game by hook or by crook, he seems media obsessed. I would think that a) he would have plenty to worry about after a run of poor results and worse performances, rather than worrying about hand shakes, and b) the question of whether a team or it's manager has class should be addressed by it's play and results, rather than whether they like to shake hands. Sherwood should keep his bloody head down, and reflect on another job less than well done.
Frank
Managers can make a huge difference to the team. Look at the difference between Redknapp and Ramos. Or even better Ferguson and Moyes. A proper manager would get us playing with these players.
Kong
jonathan - Yep, that young enthusiastic Southampton team, a well drilled team that knows what their manager wants from them, has a game plan, a structure, and the ability to actually pass to a team-mate, will be one heck of a test. Will we pass that test? I'll keep my big gob shut!!

I don't think AVB ever lost the dressing room, I don't think tim has ever had them. this is becoming truly embarrassing. will the likes of van gaal come in if we have no european football? we are in free fall. We had a really good cup record this season under AVB and I felt that the Europa was a very realistic challenge, the teams also fell nicely this year with none of the PL big boys dropping in the Europa would have been a fantastic competition from now on. With the race for top 4 well and truly gone, this was the match to define our season. how the ***** can you start harry kane in the most important match of our season?!? He kept soldado on the bench after he had finally finally showed some form and was regaining confidence and Kane was also used in the position where eriksen would have been most effective with eriksen playing where townsend would be most effective. it is a shambles

thfc1066 - welcome. I think the fans are already starting to vote with their feet. That will worry Levy more than anything else. Since the turn of the year I've noticed an increasing number of empty seats at WHL. Whilst it isn't too exaggerated yet it is something we haven't seen at WHL for many years. Our last few home games (last night included) the amount of 'empty blue' visible in the stands is increasing. Even last night for a last 16 European tie under the floodlights against a European power like Benfica we were nowhere near to filling the stadium. Maybe prices are too high or maybe people have just had enough of the dross we're constantly being served up with at the moment. Don't think Levy hasn't noticed it. The fact he's had to freeze season ticket prices for next season will have hurt him badly. Good job too. If we continue playing the football we've played this season there'll be no need to build a bigger stadium as we won't be able to fill this one. Just to prove how bad things are I turned down a ticket for Sunday's match this morning. A friend of mine offered it to me. When I said no he said I was already the second Spurs fan to say no thanks for Sunday. Empty seats and probably nothing else is what will finally make Levy take notice.

coops - out of our 7 signings, which ones have had any exposure to 4-4-2 before joining Spurs? Had Dembele, Siggy, Vertonghen, LLoris, Sandro or even Adebayor? What you say is spot on. None of the top sides do in either England or Europe. It's madness that we buy players and try to make them square pegs in round holes. Then we wonder why a player like Paulinho is struggling or Eriksen is scared to express himself. We desperately need a manager who can shift our thinking.

tottscotspur
muttley - Spot on. Said it a couple of times over the last few days. Sherwood is talking about shipping out players, recruiting more new players etc etc. All that's needed is a fecking formation change. We have a bloody good squad. People are bashing the sheit out of Paulinho, and I'll admit his performances haven't been great. However, watch him for Brazil, when he's surrounded by players who actually know what they're doing, a manager who let's them know precisely what he wants from them, and a system that he's actually familiar with. He's the mutts nuts, and almost singlehandedly dominated the Spanish midfield in the Confederations Cup final. THE SPANISH MIDFIELD, FFS!! . How the feck can someone boss an unbelievably talented midfield like that, but not cope against the likes of fecking Hull or Wet Spam? It makes no sense whatsoever. He comes to a new country, a new culture, a new language, new workmates. Then, on top of that, he ends up with a manager who seems to change his system (if there is one) every fecking match. How can players perform if they're going to have a different player next to them in the next match?

We have zero consistency, other than consistently sheit performances, consistently sheit tactics, consistently sheit team selections, consistently sheit substitutions. NO team is going to be able to perform to any sort of acceptable standard, if players aren't able to build some sort of partnership with the players around them. A different line-up EVERY fecking game, with different players playing in different, and wrong positions. All we are witnessing, and all we are getting, is precisely what we deserve. The sad thing is, it's not us that deserve this sheit, and we shouldn't have to put up with it!!

As for calling the 'Match Report' the 'Nonsense thread', feck off. Nonsense is my forte, and although they're mostly full of sheit, they're nowhere near full of as much sheit as our manager, and his fecking selections & tactics.

You were all over the place last night, really shambolic. And while I will never celebrate a Spurs win I do feel sorry for the fans who have yet again been let down by the management of the club. And by management I mean the board, too many good managers have come and gone thru your doors for it to be down to poor football management.

Your fans deserve better.

Coopsie - The football we're playing at the moment makes Stoke look like Barcelona. It makes me cringe that Sherwood (Redknapp Junior) constantly spouts to the press that he knows what Spurs fans want and then plays 1980s style long ball football that even Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce would be ashamed of. Since when has long-ball football been the Spurs way Tim? Sherwood is a total pillock. Just like his mentor Redknapp he's addicted to the publicity. Unfortunately the publicity he's getting is because we've become so fecking pathetic.

So Coopsie Man City play exactly as we did last night 442 with Silva left and we have Eriksen left who both come inside and make it a 433? If that is the case why are we slaughtering ourselves for playing 442 when it's not a real 442. If that is the case for City then it must be the case for us surely?
thfc1006
IF the players confidence levels aren't completely shattered and we are still able to beat the smaller teams, we'll be ok for the remaining 2 months of the season and leave the new incoming manager with a good base to work off next year. I just think people are overreacting. We don't usually win the Europa do we? We rarely even play well in the competition and are often knocked out as soon as we meet a top side. In the premiership we rarely finish above 5th, which is where we are at the moment anyway, so if we are in turmoil now, we've been in constant turmoil for the past 2 decades. We haven't gone backwards, we've stagnated. IF the correct decisions are made in the summer, we'll still be in a good position to progress. At this point, in terms of stability and direction, then yes, this season is pretty much a write off, but it's not the end of the world...yet.
Guyver
It's so obvious to me why Tim has lost the dressing room and why Harry ostracised the foreign players. Guys like them simply have no idea about inclusion and diversity. They can't even switch a system to a more continental one, let alone understand outside-in how normal people are different from the English cockneys they are. Their unconscious bias takes over. It's not racism, it's just that they haven't had their eyes opened due to their narrow life.

Guys like Mourinho and Wenger are students of every culture and even know the intricacies within them. Same as Fergie, Scolari, Pellegrini. I feel embarrassed when I watch a guy like Sherwood having an interview. I bet he's never spent any quality time with Paulinho, learnt to get to know him, spent 90% of the conversation listening rather than talking at him. I bet Wenger has used every opportunity to get to know Monreal etc and I bet Mourinho could already tell us loads about Matic. They're creating an environment for players to feel at home and feel like they are understood. Most of all though they are respected because of it and they need that when the voice occasionally needs to be raised. It's sad to watch Sherwood hanging himself but the sooner he steps aside the better.

I don't agree that this team needs whole sale changes, I don't agree that selling Bale last summer has resulted in the hammerings we have received this year. The bulk of the squad if utilised correctly is sufficent for a sustained challenge in both league and European competitions. We are currently failing to compete in any competition. This is not a squad problem! Yes we have issues, weak / inexperienced LBs, Lack of fit CBs, LAck of pace in the attacking third but all could be patched up for this season. The reality is that we have a "run around merchant" in charge, with still no settled formation or style of play, trying "new things" in our season defining games.

The antics of our head coach in his after match interviews and touchline behaviour strike me as a man who is playing to the crowd and is trying ot deflect blame off him and onto the eleven men he has pick to play but "don't have the desire". Its like Tim is involved in the longest running Audition for a championship management job in history! I don't blame Tim for his lack of ability, how can you, he's never had the opertunity to gain experience. I'd hate to see Levy running an airline -

"Daniel, we have to get rid of our current pilot, hes too slow and conservative yes he hasn't crashed to many times but his flights are too boring and unexciting!"

"Right so, he's fired, now there's a hanger full of experienced pilots to choose from...but I like the look of that young fella whos done great work with his fisher-price lil' movers aeroplane. Give him the job, whats the worse that could happen?"

"Mr Levy, ahem, the plane has gone down, we don't even know where Tim was headed before it fell off the radar, we thought he was heading for Turin as planned but he may have veered severely off course and kept heading that direction for some time. The flight plan has been very eratic and we have reports of him blaming the air hostesses for not showing enough desire despite the fact he had them working in the maintenance department..."
Slurms McKenzie
ghulamville - think there is far more pressure on you lot than us to be honest. Benfica are a good side but let's not talk them up just because they did a job on you. They are a professional side who play good football but I honestly wouldn't rate them as better than us (Arsenal us that is) quite the opposite in fact.

Both teams are under pressure but I think you lot, at home, are under far more pressure.

I know that hindsight is a great thing - straight after the defeat to L'pool when all hell was going loose - I did ask my mates where's the point in sacking AVB?
I did point out there was no one to replace (There was a rumour that Capello was seen at the stadium) him.
We ought to be aware what the devil we don't know about holds for us.
I didn't like AVB - thought he was mistake from the get go!

Last night's performance was probably the worst than any other this season as we seem to be totally bereft of any ideas.
This CANNOT be put down solely to the players.

Levy has a lot to answer for. He put in a man, no matter what his ultimatums were, who has no experience, no idea of managing, no idea of loyalty, no idea of footballing knowledge and worst of the worst - nothing more than a bully and a bovver boy!
No wonder Levy is not saying anything - he must cringing with so much embarrassment.
The fans wanted exciting football which was supposedly missing under AVB.. Sorry this ISN'T the football that I want to see at Spurs.
I was embarrassed last night - but then again the players didn't pick themselves someone else did - I am not going to repeat what I said on the previous thread - but if anyone has an answer please say so as I know the coach seemed to be pleased with the fight and character the players showed ?!!!!!

After the game the usual quietness that descends outside WHL after such a game - wasn't there - it was full full of folks muttering their discontent - seriously it was different... something's got to give.

The positive ? at least the promised flag was up at the Park Lane end: "Can' Smile without you".

Come Sunday I will be cheering the Spurs on to a victory vs the squatters(still hoping) because I love Tottenham. Any protest should held off until the Southampton game IMO. So disappointed - how can anyone choose that combination?!

Anyway Daniel - please do the right thing.

Guyver I think what you describe is a very fair assessment.

Galway I wish you'd stay off our threads, you make it very hard to believe all Gooners are sub-human, mouth breathing, knuckle draggers..
Slurms McKenzie
Highgate, its death by a thousand cuts no matter which game you decide that enough is enough, I can't see a monumental swing in form coming this weekend, or over the next three games.

Oh DUBLIN HOTSPUR, fella, you can now FU** OFF!! I had you down as being a good bloke, one of the god guys, so to speak. However, after reading what I did above, you can well and truly 'go blow a goat'!! Going out and actually having a good time, enjoying yourself? Whilst we endured that sheit? Got no time for you anymore, how fecking dare you have an enjoyable time!!

Slurms - just remember I'm a Gooner and you'll be fine. A similar approach always works for me when I find myself talking to a "decent" Spurs fan!
Galway Gooner
Slurms I know what you are saying BUT I do not want the squatters to have more ammunition to take p*** out of us!!

The point of 'enough is enough" is long gone!

As Coops and countless others have said let's try playing players in the RIGHTFUL roles - things may change!

Btw - does anyone think that the players are scared of playing well in case they get dropped ? Take Soldado and Eriksen for example... good games followed by getting dropped - can't be that far off with that?

Highgatespur
Coopsie, at least Dublin will have a flood of green vomit to wash away his tears on Monday...

Galway I presume like us lot, you find those decent fans few and far between! ;-)
Slurms McKenzie
thfc1006 - Man City do NOT play as we did last night, nowhere even fecking near, in fact. They play to a system, a predetermined plan. We do neither of those things. We play players out of position, and we hoof the ball from defence to attack. If you're seriouosly expecting me to accept that City set up how we set up, you'll be waiting a bloody long time.
coopsieyid
Highgate, if that was the case, at least we would have a reason for the team selections! In jest selected Kane in my starting eleven before last nights game - imagine my shock when he started!

Feck I'm so annoyed I'm actually going to do some work, I can't make sense of the world anymore, Spurs playing shambolic football and gooner fans (sorry Galway) I mean fan talking sense and having sympathy for us. In fact I think its the sympathy that hurts more then the mocking and teasing!!
Slurms McKenzie
You know what really made me think last night…….when “CL quarter finalist with Tottenham 2010 -2011” came up under Jermaine Jenas Name!!!! That just goes to show how far we have dropped. I mean Harry had his faults and some damn good individual player’s on the books but he must have stolen Harry Potters wand to get the squad he had into that position!!

So I think its popular opinion that drastic action is needed from the fans now. Some sort of protest on Sunday would go a long way to showing Dr Evil that we have had enough. Ok, it will destroy our chances (as little as they may be) of winning the game but in all honesty who cares. Look at the bigger picture. Has our ambitions sunken so low that we will take a win at home over Arsenal as the pinnacle of our season??? That really is a joke

Levy will not act until it hits his pocket. That’s the only way to get to him. No new short, no trips to the lane, no pie and phucking peas, I’m sick of it. I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t care less about a London derby. I can’t remember the last time I was so angry watching a game as last night. My anger was aimed at Tim, but in all fairness it’s not his fault. It like putting an 11st amateur boxer up against Klitschko and booing him when he gets KO’d after 20 seconds. At first I thought it may be just us guys on VS, but compared to the majority of THFC fan sites its very very tame on here!

Wow! It sounds like we were really bad last night! In random with how we have been playing generally! I was hoping for no experiments last night, and a true performance! Not so it appears!!
I'm pretty depressed! EL should have been our priority, not so it appears!
How have we turned good proven international players bad?
and I can't take the slagging any more! My phone has been hopping for the last month. What is next? I normally look foward to a NLD, not this week! Don't even want to watch it. It's like knowing we will concede, have a sending off, not score and collapse to another cricket score! As we have against every decent team we have played all year!

@james! Jaysus, I've never seen you angry or swear before! You scary mofo!
@spu 4 life! Cheers for the post on the top 4 phobia re the horses! I did respond. I've done a Trixie on bobs, briar and on the fringe, and an ew Trixie on tanks, royal Irish and triolo. All my selections backed as singles. Good luck bro!

Coopsie you said no top team plays 442, simply I said City does. You said they do at set up only and then move their wide left man in. I said that is what we did last night. That's all. City do play 442. Not a problem. All the other stuff you are saying now is expanding the initial point I was only referring to that.
thfc1006
hudderspur - I hope those at WHL on Sunday make our feelings known. I hate booing, and I don't want that to be how our supporters get their point across. Although they're on the pitch, the players are only playing an indirect part in this shambles. As Highgate said above, good performances from players, are rewarded by being dropped for the next match. Good team performances (I'm talking about the Newcastle game) are rewarded by a total change of formation in the next match, and completely opposite set-up. It's an absolute farce!

No, what we need from our supporters on Sunday is, somehow, for the actual words to be heard. Words that state 1) Levy has fecked up & it's absolutely 100% unacceptable what we are witnessing unfolding at our club. And 2) Sherwood is a fecking joke, a chancer, a barrow boy, an embarrassment to our great club.

It was unbelievable enough that he was "happy to get a point" against fecking Hull, but for him to say he was happy with what we witnessed lastnight, happy with the fight and desire that the players showed? WTF is he smoking!!

SAh I see what you mean now thfc1006. Sorry fella. Still, the most important thing that City have over us (as do almost all other teams) is not that they play a variation of 4-3-3, or 4-4-2 etc etc. It's that they play as 1. They are 1 unit. They are in it all together. We most certainly are not as 1. At the moment, we're not even 11 :-(

Right I'm out of here, I'm just getting angry reading all the posts that are pointing out the bleeding obvious and yet Sherwood seems blind to them. And Reading Coopsies synopsis of Sherwoods aftermatch interview just pushed me over the edge. I'm starting to turn green and split my clothes - at least I'm festive looking for the weekend!
Slurms McKenzie
Coopsie, something positive? I expect to hear back from you in a couple of months so...

I understand LVG doesnt want to manage us until after the world cup but cant we get the deal done now? Sack Sherwood, then just get the coaches to have a meeting with LVG and see how he wants to set the team out and we can start to implement it for the last ten weeks of the season. That way we get a head start on next year and LVG's ideas wont be totally alien to the players.
coopsieyid
Happy paddys weekend all! A win is still possible on Sunday! Vaguely! Need some bragging rights at least! Back in a while after I berate my wife for stating" why are you so upset, it's only a game!!!!" Where do I start!!!

And to add to what I said about sacking Sherwood and getting the coaches to have a chat with LVG, If we were to sack TS, we should ask LVG who he wants a his #2 and appoint him as interim manager. I imagine he would pick someone he knows well, so they would already have an idea of what he wants to implement and could be LVG's eyes and ears for when he comes in. I think he would also command respect knowing that he will be LVG's right hand man in the future.

Two managerial sackings in one season, can it get much more farcical for spurs? March s goign to awful, as United and Everton over haul us! Even Newcastle could be breathign down our necks, I don't think its a stretch to suggest that we could struggle to finish above ninth at this rate!

Just came across a post (letter) and hoped others who were at the game lastnight can say whether they noticed it too...........

Hi guys.

Have sent an email to spurs asking for an explanation as to the benfica supporters in the home sections last night and here is it...

To whom it may concern,

I am writing to express my shock, anger and disappointment at the way in which the club failed to handle the large amounts of Benfica supporters sitting in the home sections throughout the ground.

I have been a season ticket holder for 8-9 years and for the club to have so little thanks and respect for our supporters is disgusting. I sit in block J on the east upper and last night upon arrival to my seat I saw that 50-60% of the people around me were wearing Benfica shirts, scarfs, hats and waving Portuguese flags. My Dad, Brother and I, along with the other Spurs fans nearby were made to feel the minority in our own season ticket seats that we had payed extortionate prices for anyway.

As I am sure you are aware, when buying a ticket for a home game it is clearly pointed out online and by phone that the tickets are for "home supporters only and anyone found supporting the opposition will be ejected from the ground without refund." I am therefore curious as to how all of these away supporters were firstly permitted entry to the stadium and secondly allowed to stay for the duration of the game when they were quite clearly there to support the opposition. Singing throughout, cheering their teams goals and even booing the Spurs players when on the ball.

Having payed £46 for my seat I feel I have a right to be compensated for a night that wasn't spoilt by the bad result, but instead ruined by the clubs decision to not stick to their word and eject the visiting supporter.

I look forward to hearing from you

Tom Knowles.
coopsieyid
Then, in response to that, somebody said...........

"They were everywhere mate, North upper there were loads of them. You might want to remove your client reference number from your post, theres bound to be some scam that someone can use it for.".....

So, not exactly doing much to help our own supporters through this god awful time?
coopsieyid
Woody Harrelson's wig - possibly theb est thing on TV at the moment!
Slurms McKenzie
"It's clearly stub hub that sold them their tickets but that's irrelevant. It still states when you buy a ticket that you will be ejected without refund if found to be supporting the opposition.".....

So, why were they allowed to remain? Our supporters are supposedly warned they'll be removed if they continue to stand, yet supporters of our opposition can, somehow, remain amongst the home supporters?
coopsieyid
THST Official @THSTOfficial 10h
THST has been in contact with @SpursOfficial regarding various Safety concerns at the match v Benfica and will update as soon as possible.

We could be in for a long wait for the club to get back to anyone..

"West Upper last night was the same.. i sit above a gangway, and to the left of us and to the right of us, everywhere. setting off smoke bomb things too.. to be fair.. the stewards offered to move us.. but its my season ticket.. i shouldnt have to move!".............
coopsieyid
Maybe we could kill two birds with one stone by removing Sherwood as manager and putting him in charge of stewarding.
coopsieyid
Coopsie, doe sthsi mean that the Spurs fans protest has already started with fans staying away? or is it just the more pragmatic Spurs fans seeing the writing on the wall and supporting the team who will play the enteraining football at the Lane!
Slurms McKenzie
Coopsie, people being located out of position is the problem, how would putting sherwood in charge solve this? I mean the fans seating not the team selection.
Slurms McKenzie
Can you imagine Sherwood in charge of Stewarding?

"Whu? Whu ya doin eer? In a ome end? Yous lot Benfica fans, init? Whys you not over dare den, in da saaf stand? Nah, not for me. Go on, get aat. Yor playurz got a lot of class, intellijuns, int they? But not yous lot. Nah, cant eevun tell saaf from east, izit. Jog on."
coopsieyid
Andre would have told them that it's important to transition from the East to the South stand, but to avoid missing any of the match they must do it with swiftity and great dimension.

See, I can hate on everyone, equally. ;-)
coopsieyid
Coopsie - an egg ? an empty space more like - nothing more than bovver boy!

Slurms - it's no good - Ive tried to reason his selections to no avail.... naughton LB; eriksen out wide; Paulinho AND Sandro... Kane one up front; EA out wide (or anywhere he pleases)... if you or anyone can figure it out please post....
Highgatespur
Disagree Coopsie, Andre would have got them to move in a unit but they would have done so in very drab and predictable way, spent alot of time just in front of their seats with out every actually sitting in the seat. He would have also attempted to get the people sitting at the ends of the rows to sit in the middle as well!
Slurms McKenzie

Sorry Cider, once again your match report articles are hi-jacked. Your fault for not writing about good results! I don't think you are showing enough desire and you are too friendly with other posters on here. I'm stating this publicly because it is the best way to communiate this message to you. I could approach you in private and discuss it but I feel its better that I try to undermine you while pretending to be encouraging you and offer you no right of reply. Plus everyone gets to see me "managing" the situation.
Slurms McKenzie
Highgate, the sixty thousand plus waiting list of season tickets is the problem no? Have they just disappeared when a bigeuropean night comes to the lane and we can't sell out the home allocation then something is deffinately wrong! wait unitl the league games whent he away support don't bother showing up, it'll be so quite you'll be able to hear the emirates crowd.

Yet another reason to tell StubHub to pi$$ off. Will Levy do it? You must be joking. They give him a few coins. For those wanting to protest I've said it before. The only way is for the fans to not turn up. We should pick a game and say "right that's it. Unless we get confirmed changes by a certain date we'll stay away. " Unrealistic as it may be, it is the only thing Levy understands. Don't forget, he doesn't really care for us as fans. All we are to him are walking wallets that he wants to tap into.

Tim Sherwood was left to rue conceding two goals from set-pieces which left us with an uphill task against Benfica in the Europa League, Round of 16 tie.

Source: Official Site

The Portugese giants left the Lane with a 3-1 lead in the first leg after goals from Rodrigo and a double from central defender Luisao on Thursday night.

Christian Eriksen offered us hope with another free-kick special to make it 2-1 on 64 minutes but Luisao’s second goal handed Benfica a two-goal advantage as we head to Lisbon for the second leg next Thursday, March 20.

“I thought we were fine in the first half, it was exactly what I wanted,” reflected Head Coach Tim.

“We showed good spirit, character and we were solid defensively but their first shot at goal ended up in our net and that was a body blow.

“To then concede two set-pieces in the second half was really disappointing.

“Christian showed good quality from the free-kick but we couldn’t take on that momentum. We possibly lacked a bit of guile and invention around the penalty area.

“We’ll go to Benfica and give it our all and we owe it to the fans to do that.

"We’ll have a good following over there and we’ll play with spirit and give it everything we’ve got, but obviously it’s a tall order.”..........

So now the players are showing some heart but their ***** at defending set pieces, righty oh Tim.
coopsieyid
“I thought we were fine in the first half, it was exactly what I wanted,”

Not 100% on this, but I don't think Spurs had a shot on target in the first half, is this what he wants for us not to score goals at home in the first half of games.... interesting managerial tactic.

Another point Bentaleb for Sandro? It was clear to everyone and his dog that Lennon should have been replaced by townsend as early as possible in that second half.
coopsieyid
Just read some of the thread. Wow, it's all doom and gloom! Why don't you all look on the bright side ... for example ... em, erh, ... I think I'm going to need some help with this ... can someone tell me what the bright side is please?!
Geofspurs
Coopsie, I think Sandro and Walker were injured and come off as they are both doubts for Sunday. Our injury list needed more people.

Coops - Capoue ? good selling point isn't it ?

I listened to this BS on the way back in the car... It's just like reading the Beano...

we will no doubt win in Lisbon - in typically the Spurs way-2-0!!!
Highgatespur
The article says that Paulinho played with no flair, no energy, etc. I didn't see the match as I was stuck dealing with a broken down car on the highway--a strange sort of good luck as it seems now, since it had me missing watching Spurs yesterday. But I have seen enough of Paulinho n recent matches to know he's not been playing well. But in Brazil's match vs. South Africa a few days ago the Brazilian papers were mentioning Paulinho as one of the better players of the match. Is he simply disgusted at his experience with Spurs since arriving? Is he being given instructions by the management that take him away from his skill set? I watched him many times playing for Corinthians and he clearly was a skilled and motivated player and one would have predicted great things for him coming to Spurs. Indeed, we say some indications of his abilities at times before he was injured. He best performance was in the match in which he was injured by the little evil bustuhd, Charlie Adam. He hasn't been the same at Spurs since then. Is he nursing a grudge for some reason since then? Does he feel the club hasn't had his backside? It's a mystery to me as to why he's been so off his game in recent weeks. The man has some real skill and he showed nothing but dedication at Corinthians. A winning player playing pooring these days for his club. Why, indeed?
Falstaff the Fool
Thanks, High/Kong .. didn't help much! :-)

I've found a positive. Sunday May 11th, the season ends!!

The Chelsea troll, pap smear, should naff off. There's already sufficient ill will in the world. Stop causing people to hate your club.
Falstaff the Fool
We're 5th not 15th. Clubs in turmoil = AC Milan and Inter, not Tottenham, not yet anyway. Just 2 months to go, we'll finish no lower than 7th. No way trigger happy Levy keeps Sherwood, so we'll have a new manager to scrutinize, dissect and vilify before too long.
Guyver
Falstaff, I have the same thoughts - long gone are the days when a novice is chosen to lead a club with massive aspirations... especially Paulinho - he signed on the promise that GB was going to be a team-mate of his!!!

I like your thinking Guyver, true what you are saying. 2 months sounds like an eternity.

SpuriousLife - After looking elsewhere, I've discovered that last night had NOTHING to do with StubHub. The tickets were put on general sale, so those Benfica who were in with home supporters, were there due to the clubs lack of professionalism. Now there's a surprise!!
coopsieyid
Falstaff, Paulinho is much more suited to the international game than the prem game, he has not been good for a while, not only since his injury but before than he was not good at times, recently he has been shocking. I think he probably doesn't want to be here. If this proves to be the case I would part company in the summer.
thfc1006
Guyver are you the voice of reason in this place amongst all the voices of doom?
thfc1006

coopsieyid
Well Kong, imagine if you were a Man Utd fan. If we're in turmoil, what are they in?!
Guyver
I used to enjoy watching Spurs but not now. I also enjoyed discussing this that with the good and not so good people on here. Now that too is just depressing. Tim has had his chance and not found the formula. Like AVB before him he managed to scrape a few points together but the nuts were loose and the wheels are off again. I don't think this squad can be rescued so wholesale change ahead with more transition time and the same gelling bollix to argue about. As Captain Oates said to Scott: I'm going out now, I may be some time. Play nicely while I'm gone. (He didn't say the last bit, I did)
Love totty
Guyver & thfc1006 - You guys are mistaking "doom & glood" with "suicidal". Massive difference ;-)
coopsieyid
Coopsie I see you are deserting this site to go on others to read the same thing re StubHub!!! LOL
Highgatespur
yea thfc1006, I personally don't think it's that difficult to find positives, just takes a little more effort than whipping each other up into a frenzy..
Guyver
Guyver, I wouldn't say we are in turmoil but I don't like what ever we are in at the moment. True about the Man U fans, they are used to winning and competing each year so to be out of the top 4 has not happened in some of their fans lifetime so they are not used to it. We are but it still hurts, bring on the new manager :).
Kong
Guyver - Fair play to you, for thinking some of us are being over dramatic, and trying to see the positive, somehow. However, as you say, we are 5th, which is surely a good thing, considering the shocking upheaval we've experienced throughout the entire season. However, if United win their game in hand, they go to within 2 points of us, and will almost certainly overtake us, if we continue as we currently are. If Everton win their 2 games in hand over us, which is far from unthinkable, they will leapfrog above us. You say we'll finish no lower than 7th, you may be right. You'll be happy with that?
coopsieyid
Guyver, all those clubs you mentioned have had successes to enjoy in the recent past ... we haven't!!!

COYS!!!!
Highgatespur

thfc1006
Highgate - There's barely a THFC site that I don't use. I'm even registered on foreign ones.

Guyver - it's good that you used United as a comparative example. They're in a different situation to us, and every man and his dog has known for a very long time, that they need to invest HEAVILY in fresh young players. It was OK when they had the best manager in the world, he was able to get an extra 20%+ out of his players, but now they've got an ordinary manager, the reality of their squad has hit home, and the results have been the outcome of the lack of investment last summer, and in January. The club itself has come out & stated that they let Moyes down, and will invest massively in the summer. So, unlike our club, they accept they FUBAR, and are going to address it when the season ends. Will we do the same? Well, I've crossed my fingers, my toes and, even though it really hurts, I've even crossed my nuts!!
coopsieyid
LOL Love totty. i feel your pain, young man :-(
coopsieyid
This team is a shambles and it can only be down to the coaching. You don't take good players and make them bad. You just don't play to their strengths. Paulinho needs to go to Madrid or Barca in the summer for 25m after a great world cup, yes please. Get rid of at least 6 players from this current squad and bring in players who have some technical ability, they don't need to be 30m players or the worlds best, but they need to have the technical ability to learn, adapt and to get better. But most importantly, get a coach who can actually teach these players how to play. I look at the way arsenal move the ball, their players are constantly moving finding space, giving the man on the ball at least one or two options. Over the last few months, I have seen our players pass and leave the man with the ball with no option, so he passes backwards, no movement, no running off the ball. Its no wonder we can't score when we play this way. Lennon gets the ball far too deep and then gets 2 defenders closing him down, he has nowhere to go so passes backwards. It happens again and again. The only shining light in the team is Eriksen. He reminds me of Bergkamp in a lot of ways, not as technically gifted(who is), but when he gets the ball, he moves forward, he wants to go and take on players. He is the ideal player to play off the main striker. Do we need to go on about the left back again? Central defence, we should sign the Brazilian Luisao, what a game he had, looked immense in defence and attack. Shows what a defender with footballing ability looks like. We always struggle when we play against a very organised team, yet we have 3 of the fastest players in the prem in Walker, Lennon and Townsend. Why didnt we go hell for leather last night with 30 mins to go? Tim, nice but dim, you are very much the weakest link in this club. Goodbye can't come soon enough. Sorry to be so downbeat, but if we lose to the gooners 2-0, I will be pleased. I don't want another 4 or 5 goal defeat.
vicspur
thfc1006, I agree we are not in turmoil, at this stage last season after 29 games we were third and just beat Inter Milan 3-0 in the Europa league last 16 first leg so we had something to fight for. This season is very different for different reasons. Turmoil - no, mess - yes
Kong
coops, Man Utd have to beat Man City and Liverpool in their next 3 games, good luck to them with that... Everton have easier fixtures, but have a difficult run in. Either way, if you go back to the expectations thread, when AVB was in charge, I said between 4th and 6th is our bracket, I believe that was the article where you said you had no expectations for league position?? So although I won't be "ecstatic" with 7th, it's hardly the end of the world either considering all the upheaval this season. It's not a mighty fall from last seasons 5th and can be recovered with a top manager.

"See, even fecking Falstaff the Fool was at it. 'I didn't see the match as I was stuck dealing with a broken down car on the highway'.... So, you too was having more fun than those of us who sat through that sheit last night!! Dublin & Falstaff OUT!!" wrote coopsieyid.

So what's up with this comment, coops? Why the adjective "fecking" in front of my nom be plume? And why the call for me to be "OUT"? What insult or injury have I sent your way? I'm mystified.

By the way, when I got home last night in the wee hours I wrote on this site that I probably was having a better time dealing with tow trucks and mechanics than I would have had if I'd gotten home in time to watch yesterday's match.

But what's up with the "fecking" and the "OUT"? Am I missing some irony on your part, or have you felt I've insulted you somehow? Don't grasp your language, mate. Mysterious to me. Am I being slated for having car trouble on the highway and thus not getting to watch a Spurs match? Or are you simply in a grouchy mood after the recent matches and turning your wrath on me for reasons that I haven't grasped?

Falstaff the Fool
Highgatespur, all those clubs you mentioned have had successes to enjoy in the recent past ... we haven't!!!

Exactly, so their fall from grace is more significant. We, in contrast have fallen from 5th to 5th. In this day and age you are asking a lot for a team like Spurs, who are a distant SIXTH in the wage league, to regularly finish in the top Four. We are always relying on others slipping up.

LMFAO, I'm now officially evil, for laughing my arse off because Eriksen made a little kid cry lol

Even better, Eriksen laughs too :-)
coopsieyid
Yesterdays game was a joke & a farce, the whole season the jokes have all been on Spurs.
Quite frankly Spurs deserve to be laughed at.

I`ve lost a lot of heart & passion towards the club, continues to rip off the fans by advertising a diamond, but giving them a pile of dog $hit for the same price.
Tim Sherwood must go,not even debatable.

And if Daniel Levy doesn`t get the right manager in,then he too, must go.
IMO Levy has to go all out for van Gaal or Cappello & give them what they want.
Trying to be greedy is counter productive & it`s the fans who suffer the most.
If you give a manager £10 million a year & he gets you top4,then his contract has paid for itself.
Wenger,Mourinho,Ferguson got paid very well, but they put more in the club than they got out, much more.
Di Matteo winning the CL gained Chelsea over £75million.
Get the right manager & players then contracts will pay for themselves,at Spurs too many our taking from the club & giving nothing back.

This post sums up things perfectly, in my opinion...............

"I am one of those who was very excited by AVB at the start. I became disenchanted with him, and was ambivalent toward his sacking, although I harboured a deep suspicion that maybe, just maybe, there was a grand project within him which he had not had time to bring together either at the Chavs or with us.

The main thing i did not like about his sacking was the mid season nature of it. I would have much preferred, and was vocal at the time about it, that he be given the season at least and things be sorted out in the summer break one way or the other.

The way things have gone now, i see no improvement whatsoever. We should have stuck with AVB through the season. It couldn't really have gone worse than it's going right now anyway".............
coopsieyid
Benfica are a very good Team. was it 10pts they achieved in their CL group as well as being last season's finalists?

Anyway the performance yesterday was not good enough from our lads, clearly. Kane starting, well that in my book a was odd, resting Rose & playing Naughton made sense (Fryers would not of been a safer option over KN). As for the rest, quite simply the better Team won... Le Goons next at WHL, the players have lacked leadership & belief, hopefully they sort their $hit out before Sunday, or else we'll all be clinically depressed after another hiding...

The end of the season can't come quick enough can it, time for the classic cliche, I think it may make reference to a productive next season, or something like that. Yaaaawn.
True Spurs Supporter
Guyver - Funnily enough, somebody elsewhere has touched upon the United/THFC comparison..........

"the main point of my feelings on this subject is that we have a Chairman who is too impatient and too trigger happy.

WE NEED CONTINUITY!

Who are in a relatively worse set of conditions? Us or UTD? United are i would argue. From champions to mid table with their new manager in one season, having held onto their super stars (Van Persie and Rooney). And yet they stick, we fold. I know which route i would favour, and I think that United will end up coming through it stronger than we will and quicker."............
coopsieyid
What is clear is the players/formation/tactics etc... are far worse than when AVB was here. AVB wasn't playing enteraining football, granted. However his teams had more cohension and the individuals were working for each other a TEAM. Benfica's display last night was what I was hoping for when Levy said we are going in a different direction, i'm really not enjoying the direction we are actually going in.
yiddyboy
I am not among those who cannot wait for the season to end. I want to watch my team play when they are wonderfully good and when they are wonderfully awful. I'm curious about how the lads and the management will deal with the spiraling downward trend of recent performances. Will there be players who stop putting in effort and will there be others who play their hearts out even though the times are difficult? Will some of the injured, like Lamela, come back and show something? Can we read some of the late season tea leaves to forecast the future? Let's not wish the next two months away.
Falstaff the Fool
Oh Danny boy the fans, the fans are calling,

From stand to stand and all around the Lane,

The season’s lost and our great team is falling,

What you will do to take away our pain.

The sound you hear is voices raised in fury,

This can’t go on, there has to be an end,

Please state your case and we will be the jury

Oh Danny boy it’s time for you to spend.

Geofspurs
The only reason Man United come through it stronger coops, is because of what you alluded to above. They can buy their way out of it and attract the best players in the world. All things being equal, had they had our budget and pulling power, whether they keep Moyes or not, they'd struggle to get regular CL football again.

Falstaff - Please, read through the responses, especially the posts from me to Dublin. They'll be easy to find, because I typed "DUBLIN" into my post.

After that, please, I beg of you, relax!! lol

Falstaff - Here, I'll save you the trouble....

Got no time for you anymore, how fecking dare you have an enjoyable time!!...............

See, Falstaff? The point was, anyone who was fortunate enough to miss last nights shameful performance, is a basterd, and can feck off, because they would have had a better time than those of us who did have to sith through that sheit. Yep, even you on the highway with your broken down car ;-).
coopsieyid
Isn't it more favourable for Levy, Lewis, ENIC to constantly be in a transition phase? If they have stability then they will need to invest properly to keep moving forward, all we are doing under ENIC for the last 4/5 seasons is tread water. Achieveing CL's was the target, we got that and didn't push on, now we are 'x' managers later with no real idea of anything anymore. The main reason to why the media hate us is because we are such a closed shop, when there are no facts available you can print what you want, it is just their opinion. If Levy came out today and announced Van Gaal, Capello or even Tim is staying on beyond the season everyone knows the situation, all Tottenham gives us is speculation, gossip and fuel for Coopsie to post his nonsense articles.(no offence Coops).
We need some transparency now and that needs to start from the top, what are ENIC's targets and what is their action plan
yiddyboy
Critical - It seems he actually did, lol.

Still, it's understandable, I'm not really known for my sarcastic ability!!

Like you said, now I've explained it to him, he'll hopefully have a chuckle at it now. Failing that, I'll meet him mid Atlantic for a good old scrap. Despite banging Tims' drum for him and feeling he has some much needed qualities, this ain't going anywhere. Every week I hope we'll finally show something and... Yes, you need time but I've always thought that if a manager is any good you'll see improvements straight away. Sorry Tim, but I'm not seeing any. Not really. Glimpses here and there. Bringing a youngster through, the recent 1st half against Chelsea... I dunno. We nkew it would be a tough month and maybe the opposition is just too strong anyway atm. Clubs in full confident swing verses Spurs who haven't really swung since Redknapp was booted. We're so flat we don't stand a chance, even if the players try like I think they did yesterday. Is Tim just not good enough or are Benfica that good? Bit of both. They're unlucky to be out of CL and Tim needs more experience and clout to manage our prima-gonners. Thankfully, I'm out on Sunday. Would usually be busting a gut to be arranging watching the game SOMEhow. but I'm relieved to have an excuse not to. Up yours, Tottenham.
jerkinmahjurgen
Why is everyone so fecking happy. Get a LIFE! :) COYS!

Just to keep in the depressing mood, Dembele, Adebayor and Walker are all struggling to be fit for Sunday. The good news is that Siggy is back, well that would be bad news for some. I didn't even know he was injured.

coopsie- i agree with all your posts esp about LVG. but i would get rid of our coaches as well What have any of them done in the last 2yrs ffs

Geof - You're treading on thin ice now, young man.

Kong - I'm past caring now mate. I firmly believe that NOBODY is injured, they simply don't want to play Krusty Sherwood.

James - don't you fecking start, coming on here with fecking smiley faces and happy outlook. Actually, now I think about it, Smiley faces isn't that dissimilar to what i now get to watch on the pitch each time we play. Not quite Smiley Faces, but Shiny Faeces!!

topspur - Oh yeah, coaches, balls, cones, anything associated with the comedy act we currently have running our team. That's why I elaborated further, and said about LVG choosing his number 2, then getting him to run things until LVG comes, when the World Cup finishes. Hopefully Holland don't make the final, then we can get him in before the 15th of July (World Cup ends 13th July).

It's 1am Saturday in the future world so I'm off to bed. Can someone turn the lights out and give coopsie his medication! Night all.
Geofspurs
I think that's about right Kong its a mess just like it was in the away leg against Inter last season. It's been heading this way for some time. Can we starting to turn things around Sunday? I doubt it somehow, hope so though. Fanny Adams I am not so sure that Van Gaal of Capello are the way forward, but I see why you might think they are and if you want a turn around in 2-3 seasons they might be tough enough to do it. I doubt either would be here longer.
thfc1006
LOL, good night Geof. Rest well mate. Remember, tomorrow (today for you) is a new day. Unfortunately we'll still have the same manager when you awake, so, sweet dreams :-)
coopsieyid
thfc1006, don't think we will start turning things around on Sunday or the rest of the season, I say that because we are not playing well and I cannot see any improvements anywhere. Like you I hope so too.
Kong
thfc1006 - That's the best thing about Van Gaal. He has openly stated that he would be happy to come in & take Sherwood under his wing, teach him a few things, and then pass on the baton to Sherwood when he's done his stint. Now, unfortunately, Sherwood now believes he's too important to be anyone's assistant, due to him being too opinionated (his words, not mine). But that shouldn't matter, as there are plenty of excellent coaches around the world, who would probably jump at the chance to now only come and work for THFC, but under a manager like LVG. What a teacher to have, and safe in the knowledge that he's next in line to the throne.
coopsieyid
*not only become*, not what I typed "now only become". Fecking idiot!!

OK Coops. Your sense of humor has led me to become a supporter of Timmy as our manager, indeed, support for DL and Timmy seems to sole route to take. Further, let me be the first to advocate selling Eriksen to Chelsea because their midfield needs are far greater than ours, and buying back that Jenas fellow to replace him. Ah, then bring in Charlie Adam to up the skill level and the general ethics of our club. Oh, and since we don't seem to be able to get a new arena sorted in N17, I'd like to see one built as close to Lizard Point as possible.
Falstaff the Fool
coops missed the post about the number 2 got in. needs doing NOW
topspur53
Dartford, Coops. Be there. I know it's a bit close to the toilet but I will have my back to it. My eyes will be free. My mind elsewhere. Just how much identity can be removed from one club? We'll be losing our 'inconsistent' tag next. And it's also inconsistent that in the archives I'm telling AVB to practice his moves elsewhere [knew he hadn't the clout] but Tim, despite his inexperience, I saw him having more clout, due to playing. Probably would have for 14 other Prem sides, but not us. Experience, history, background. Medals? As a manager. I think I've learned something. These fall into essential class 1 criteria when choosing a manager for our club. With our aspirations. Despite what Dalglish and Di Matteo may have done. I don't even pretend to understand it. Refuse to give a *****. I'll stop now before I get into full self-contradictory swing and will be drinking more voddie, which is fast becoming my preferred choice of sport.
jerkinmahjurgen
Now you're talking, Falstaff. Apart from the bit about Lizard Point. There's already a club near there, they're called Mullion FC, and I've got a few mates who play for them. I'd never hear the end of it when they give our beloved Tottenham a beating.
coopsieyid
Just give in to the urge, Jerkin, voddie is all that's left now. Embrace it & accept it for what it is, for it will never let you down like THFC has.

on tw*tter... Harry Hotspur™ ‏@theboyhotspur A friend of someone on the board at THFC says Tim's gone Monday. Not blogging it, as I don't see the logic. Passed on in good faith.

Should you wish to have 3 very good reads, place into google search engine ''luis van gaal and his style of play'' read in order each article, anyone with attitude will be well and truly sorted out, watch the TV interview in one of the links, he does not suffer fools gladly. I would be very willing to give this guy a chance of turning us around and I strongly believe he would.

I have no time for sherwood, his coming across as a junior redknapp, maybe he thinks making the press laugh is bringing them all on board, they are laughing at you Tim, not with you. Picking a number 10 who struggled to cut it in the championship on loan, hardly does it for me, you have your views, great I don't ask you to agree, now his making certain arsene wenger has his boys up for it, in another inerview. If he stays until the end of the season, he may well do more damage then good. Hope we can wave him good bye, not for me thank you.

Here's my second response - "He's a ****"... lol

My 3rd response about The boy Hotspur - "I'm sure @Bill_Oddie will tell you exactly how credible Harry Hotspur is. The guy would put your average Sun journalist to shame."....

It's not looking too promising for that info to be true. Still, I've got a semi-chub, and I'm using the info for a good purpose lol
coopsieyid
Sherwood won't be sacked on monday total bo//ox, we don't have that many people to take over, let him dig a grave and keep digging to the end of the season, then get shot and be done with it. The entire shop needs a re-fit. Watch LVG turn Eric Lamela into a footballing genius, then Madrid will want him and levy will make another 60 to 80m, just like he did with Bale.
spu 4 life
Coopsieyid. I am not sure that Van Gaal is ready to drive forward a team, apart from one period in his career he has always managed teams expected to win things.
thfc1006
Harry Hotspur is a retard. He shares my computer filtering system all to himself. His oyster, it is.
jerkinmahjurgen
Still, IF that info from The Boy Hotspur did turn out to be true, who on earth would Levy get in for the rest of the season? MAybe the scenario I mentioned earlier, LVG done & dusted, and we use whoever would be his number 2, for the remainder of the season, and have a smooth changeover to LVG after the World Cup? OR, would it be absurd to think of old man Brad overseeing things for the last 10 or so games?
coopsieyid
spu - This is from elsewhere, but a heck of a read (may take a couple of separate posts for me to fit it on here. It's titled, "The Van Gaal Supremacy", and I hope you (and others) take the time to read it.....

"I am who I am; confident, arrogant, dominant, honest, hard-working and innovative..."

Louis Van Gaal's record speaks for itself: seven league titles across four countries, three domestic cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup and another seven trophies taking in Super Cups and the like. There have been numerous detractors of Van Gaal on this site which beggars belief when you consider the pedigree of a man who has led the likes of Ajax, Bayern Munich and Barcelona to championship honours. How can any of us be arrogant enough to say that he is not worthy to be the number-one choice for the head-coach position is a concept I find entirely repugnant?

Let us first of all try to debunk some of the myths surrounding the reasons why he is not a good appointment? One such reason that has been cited is the fact that he would be yet another in a litany of foreign managers who have arrived with a big reputation only to fail in a most spectacular fashion. One such example would be Juande Ramos who in the end demonstrated himself to be a largely useless manager who invariably flattered to deceive. After masterminding his Sevilla side to back-to-back UEFA Cup victories either side of a UEFA Super-Cup victory over Barcelona, he justifiably came to Spurs with a big reputation, however after winning the league-cup in 2007-2009 season, he managed to guide the team to the dizzying heights of eleventh in the table in that same year, to then oversee the club's worst start to a season at the beginning of the 2008-2009 whereby he accumulated the princely sum of two-points from eight games that ultimately cost him his job.

Another such example would be the illustrious Jacques Santini, a man who was chosen as "The best French coach" in 2002 by France Football and The Best National Coach of the Year in 2003 by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS). However he acrimoniously left after just 13 games in charge in 2004 citing differences with the then sporting director Frank Arnesen, as the reason for his departure.

The most recent example of such a spectacular failure would be that of Andre Villas Boas, who following an unprecedented unbeaten season with FC Porto in the 2010-2011 season where he accumulated four-titles including the Europa League, was lured to London by the Tsar of Chelsea with the promise of roubles galore and a pipeline named after him. Ambramovich perhaps assumed he was hiring Mourinho without all the unnecessary bravado that inevitably follows him; how wrong he was.

coopsieyid
After his ignominious exit from Chelsea, he still came to Spurs with his reputation largely intact. In fact his first season was almost a wonderful redemption for the man given his marching by the Russian, as he led my beloved Spurs to their highest points tally ever in the Premier-League during the 2012-2013 season, narrowly missing out on the hallowed ground of the Champions League to the Sith lords over at the Woolwich.

Despite the disappointment I, along with many others I imagine, were still hopeful that we would continue to evolve and become a more potent machine come the new season. Once again, how wrong was I?

Though having a good overall record of 1.83 points per game it was the quite staggering humiliations against Man City and Liverpool, coupled with poor results, particularly against Newcastle and West Ham that helped condemn AVB to his next set of marching orders. It wasn't just the results themselves, but the football that was being played. Largely ponderous and predictable, we looked devoid of the gusto and speed that had become synonymous of the Tottenham under old 'Arry where Bale and Lennon regularly tore up and down the flanks terrorising the opposition. Our team had the appearance of one with the aim of not losing, as opposed to one playing to win.

All of these examples have a common denominator: they were all only successes in their respective countries. Let me repeat Van Gaal's achievements: seven league titles across FOUR countries, three domestic cups, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup and another seven trophies taking in Super Cups. Van Gaal hasn't just achieved in his own country, but in EVERY country that he has managed in.

coopsieyid
I understand that this is no guarantee, but if his past success is anything to go by, then it's a good indicator of what he can achieve with our team. As well as the trophy count, his record in the dugout speaks volumes: sixty-two win percentage in twenty-two years. In the simplest terms he is a winner, fact.

If we were to discount his quantifiable successes and judge from a purely aesthetic viewpoint we can see he is not just an advocate of attacking football, but winning football. Mohammed Moalim in his article for ‘Four-Four-Two’, Van Gaal's vision seeks to recreate football Utopia draws attention to this aspect when echoing the sentiments of managerial greats such as, Marcelo Bielsa and Pep Guardiola, "The most prominent outside of the Netherlands are Marcelo Bielsa and Pep Guardiola. "When executed properly it is winning football," beamed Bielsa, who has never hid his admiration for the Dutchman. "My jaw dropped when I saw Van Gaal's Ajax play," Guardiola enthused in his autobiography. "They did everything a football team should do perfectly in my eyes." An outstanding candidate for virtually any top position in world-football, his legacy has become a benchmark for coaches to aspire to, as it is clearly seen here.

Moalim goes on to say that, "...Van Gaal sees attacking football as a moral duty. His greatest obsession is still continuous circulation of the ball; passing endlessly as a means to tire the opposition until space is found to punish. It also acts as a defensive weapon: if you have the ball then your opponents can't do anything."

Other detractors may illustrate that his man-management skills are perhaps not entirely conducive to a harmonious dressing-room. Craig Hope in his article for the Daily Mail, What would Tottenham be getting if they appointed Louis Van Gaal as manager? alludes to the Dutchman's particular form of player handling: "Take one tale relayed to the press by Bayern’s Luca Toni where Van Gaal dropped his trousers in front of the squad to demonstrate he had the ‘balls’ to axe any player from the starting line-up. At Bayern, in particular, his man management was called into question. There were accusations of dressing room dressing-downs which left players on the verge of tears, while Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge observed: ‘His management style reminds me of that of Felix Magath. It doesn't win you any friends."

coopsieyid
The role of the Technical Director would see Sherwood best placed to oversee the overall development and continuity of the club’s beliefs and philosophies regardless of who is in charge. Sherwood has been at the club since 2008 and has been heavily involved a number of areas of the club, particular with the development of the academy.

It is worth noting that Van Gaal was responsible for blooding the likes of Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert in to the successful Ajax team of the nineties. A team that had at its heart a core of home-grown academy developed talent.

Whilst reading through all the articles and interviews in my research, I have come to the increasing conclusion that not only would we be well-placed to have him at the helm, but privileged to have him lead us. He is THE outstanding choice for the role at such a famous club.
coopsieyid
This would be one of the few points where I could understand the fans reticence at his appointment because of what we, as supporters, have experienced during AVB’s tenure; how a fractured dressing-room can do much to, not only destabilise the head-coach's position, but more importantly affect performances. One only need point to the whole mishandling of the Adebayor situation and recent revelations of how Jermain Defoe felt that he had been forced out of the club by the now departed Villas-Boas. In his previous reign as Chelsea manager there were numerous reports of how he had alienated the likes of Alex, Anelka, Cole and Lampard.

Van Gaal is neither complimentary of the media where he once famously exclaimed, “Journalists think they know as much about football as I do, but they don't.”

Despite this, however all great managers have caused discord amongst those in football. I don't recall Sir Alex Ferguson being too concerned with hurting players' feelings, or removing them from the Manchester United picture entirely if the need arose; just ask David Beckham, Jaap Stam, Roy Keane to name a few. Sir Alex's managerial style has allowed him to oversee the most successful period in the club's history with the club surpassing Liverpool's record of nineteen league-titles. The great Pep Guardiola has also ruffled his fair share of high profile feathers, none more so than that of Zlatan Ibrahimovich who candidly tells us in his autobiography that, "...he was a brick wall. I didn’t see any signs of life from him, and every hour with the club I wished I could be out of there. I didn’t belong any more, and when we had an away match with Villarreal, he let me play for five minutes. I was seething inside."

Despite some of the negativity reported in the press, it is a familiar and much beloved figure in the form of Rafael Van der Vaart, who says this of Van Gaal, " “He would be great at Tottenham, and not just for him but for Tottenham as well,” Van der Vaart told The National on a recent training camp in Abu Dhabi. “He’s a great manager. He knows how to win big games and how to talk to a team."

Ultimately, a great manager is one who is forthright in his ambitions and has the courage to realise his grand visions of great victory and glory, even if it comes at the expense of others. The ruthlessness of their convictions and the manner in which they achieve their success will always leave some offended because of the high demand and expectancy placed upon them to meet those great expectations. Judging from recent performances we need someone who will challenge the players to move beyond their self-imposed limitations.

In an interview with FIFA.com in 2008, Van Gaal had this to say when asked what his philosophy was? “The coach is the focal point of the team but you need to have an open mind, and so do all the players. Everyone needs to work together to achieve a common goal. Preparing your tactical formation is essential. Each player needs to know where he has to be, and that is why there needs to be mutual understanding because you need absolute discipline."

The ‘mutual understanding’ Van Gaal speaks of has to happen at all levels, starting with the direction and philosophy of the club. Currently we don’t seem to know whether we want to be a club that concentrates on making stars and encouraging the youth to graduate into the first-team, or scour the market purchasing talent. We bought seven-internationals in the summer, yet we sent the likes of Livermore and Carroll, who were just breaking into the first-team picture, away on loan. Following AVB’s departure we seem to try shoehorning in the likes of Bentaleb and Kane into a team has been unsettled for virtually the whole season. We have a team that doesn’t look like it has benefitted from such an influx.

A clear transfer policy, in line with the club’s philosophy, needs to be instigated where an agreed criterion is in place for what a Tottenham player ought to be.

A degree of restructuring will obviously need to be conducted in the summer, and I would like to see Tim Sherwood installed as the new Technical Director in place of Franco Baldini. Clubs are becoming increasingly bifurcated as the gap between first-team and academy widens. Managers appear less likely to place their faith in their academies because of the desire for instant success.

thfc1006 - It's not LVG's fault that the best clubs have hired him in the past. That one period you mention, what a period it was. The man himself says it's that achievement that he is most proud of. I can honestly see him relishing the chance to try and take little Tottenham above the bigger monied up clubs.
coopsieyid
Coopsi, are you enjoying the marathon - time for the Sunday kick off soon!
Highgatespur
LVG yep get him in after the WC...But Sherwood then leaves the club...he's as much use as a chocolate tea pot...

Shedboy2 you sure? - I hear they can be decorative!

Well, we all know we were linked with Milner earlier this week (I actually like Milner). Well another name has been added to that of Milner, some fella called WINSTON REID. Anyone know anything about him? Apparently he plays for the Spammers? People elsewhere aren't especially over the moon with him, apparently he's "ordinary" and is no better than anything we currently have? Anyway, the story......

Reid and Milner on Spurs radar as Sherwood seeks Premier League pedigree,

Tim Sherwood wants players with an understanding of the Premier League
Spurs spent £100m on players from abroad last summer James Milner and Winston Reid have been linked with the north Londoners

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood is leaning towards a 'buy British-based' recruitment policy.
Despite a continental flavour to the club's current squad, underpinned by the £100million summer outlay spent on Paulinho, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Vlad Chiriches, Nacer Chadli, Etienne Capoue and Roberto Soldado, Sherwood is understood to be looking for players who have a better understanding of the Premier League.

He has warned that many of his squad are playing for their futures and much will depend whether he remains in charge himself.
He has held discussions with Daniel Levy this week regarding pre-season plans but results over the next few months could still be pivotal to how those plans are implemented.
Former QPR scout Ian Broomfield has returned to the club after turning down an offer to join Arsenal and players such as James Milner at Manchester City and Winston Reid of West Ham United have been getting a mention as potential signings.......
coopsieyid
I completely agree with Tim that experience of the Premier League is an important issue to consider when bringing people into the club.

Sherwood's experience of managing in the Premier League when he arrived was zero. We should, perhaps, have considered that... :-/
coopsieyid
Sherwood.......the MASTER deflector. He is not level headed enough to be any sort of manager.
ledgespur
Also, remember me posting a link yesterday that said we were looking to sign a leftback called 'Daley Blind' from Ajax? Well here's a post about him.........

"He fits into van Gaal's system very well. He reads the game very, very well, and could help other players jump-start to understanding van Gaal's system (if he plays the 433), as he is a prime example of how to work the wing within it.".......

Sounds good to me.

Here's a different clip of him at work, well worth a watch because it's an interview with the player himself, and him saying what his best assets are, weaknesses etc etc - http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=lyOUjz_kpn8

Nice ending to a horror story Coopsie - I hear a certain C Adam is available as well as the current QPR side - they all have Premier League experience?! Welcome back 'Arry??!!
Highgatespur
Oh, don't get confused if you take the time to watch the clip. Although a LeftBack, DeBoer has also used him as a DM this season.
coopsieyid
Ah - "He primarily plays CDM for Ajax, and LB for Van Gaal's Netherlands."......
coopsieyid
Coopsie - have been following since I saw him in a practice session in Ajax... good one - how I hope!!! His father Danny was pretty good as well ...
Highgatespur
Highgate - To think we were a directors signature away from getting Charlie Adam. And people were/are gutted that Levy got rid of Redknapp?
coopsieyid
you might well be right there coopsieyid ref Van Gaal, I hope so
thfc1006
Highgate - So you'd be happy IF the Blind story has some foundation?
coopsieyid
Geof, Love the tune, in true Paddys day spirit!!!

Coops, you'll be delighted to know I have had a sheit day! hungover to hell (the bonus wore off around 2) the wife is ignoring me because I took a stance with her on "its not just a game, the club is more important than you or the kids!!" kind of vibe, and I am now in the pub trying to hide tip she goes to bed, but can't stomach anything more than lucozade!

You happy now fecker!!! wish I just watched the match and was just miserable!!! LOL
Dublin Hotspur
Hey Coopsie, the YouTube one. You never know, maybe even Baldini might join in
ENIC OUT
thfc1006 - Mate, I just want what's best for our club. I obviouosly have no idea how it'd pan out, whether he'd be a disaster or a success story. All I know is that I firmly believe that he is EXACTLY what we, and more importantly, Levy, need. It's high time that somebody with a BIG set of balls, came in and TOLD Daniel Levy "I'm running the football team, it's MINE, and we either do things my way, or we don't do them at all & you lose a manager"...... We all know that Van Gaal is an egotist, but there's a reason for that. Look at the whole world of football, Ronaldo, Zidane, Mourinho etc. They all have a cockiness, an air of arrogance. It's because they KNOW they're good, and they CAN back up that arrogance.

"I am who I am; confident, arrogant, dominant, honest, hard-working and innovative..."

He's not just talking, he's speaking the truth. I want him at our club, badly!!
coopsieyid
Good man, Cider. However, falling out with the missus = MUCH worse than supporting an infuriating football club with a gonad as a manager. What do you want me to put in the obituaries mate? lol
coopsieyid
Cider? Sorry Dublin. Or was that just my conscience telling me what to drink? Again, sorry Dublin. Not that you'll be able to do much if I've pi$$ed you off. The missus will kill you long before you can catch up with me ;-)
coopsieyid
Nice read coops on LVG!!! difficult on the eyes in my situation!! but I would, at the moment, give my left one to have him announced any day soon!!!
Dublin Hotspur
Coopsie - you remember about Adam - who was the manager ? And who wanted a British drive at the club no matter what ? Ah similarities ? Not a single original idea i his head to boot!!!

I wouldn't mind Blind nor the full back who went Fiorentina..
get some winners in there I say!
Highgatespur
She's grand coops, been there before, I think its more the going to a punk gig and coming in at 3am, waking the kids and her, that was the catalyst more than my mini tantrum re spurs!!! nursing a pint now, so getting better…. and a hug for her in an hour or so! a hug always cheers her up!!!
Id only be after you for a loan of a boogie board my man!!
Dublin Hotspur
ENIC OUT - I've defended Levy for years, and will continue to do so when it comes to things like the stadium & getting good sponsorship deals etc. The Stadium isn't being held up by him, and I don't think there's a single supporter who won't at least acknowledge his financial ability. However, when it comes to the football decisions, he needs to ***** off!! That should be what Baldini was brought in for, or why we should have got Txiki Burgerstain (yes I know it's Begiristain, but Burgerstain is funny, so there) when he was available after leaving Barcelona. Let the football people deal with the football stuff, let the financial people deal with the financial stuff. It really is that simple, no? I dono't know about Baldini joining in with the song about Levy, but I would love it if he just turned round & chins him.
coopsieyid
Dublin, I assure you the only thing good thing was the free kick from Erik the Viking and of course the appearance of the long promised flag!: "I can't smile without you". The incident that caused biggest groan (except the 3 goals) was when the Rose let the ball slip under his feet when trying to trap the ball... with no one around him! Hope the missus sees the funny side... and all will be back to usual until Sunday.... More winnings today ?
Highgatespur
Coopsie.."I am who I am; confident, arrogant, dominant, honest, hard-working and innovative..." sounds like someone we know???

bad day today, lots of fallers and broken jockeys! but marginally up for the week, paid for the pints so break even, gotta be happy with that after 27 races!!! exactly €12 up to be exact!! LOL

10% return on investment over the week!!
Dublin Hotspur
Highgate - I'm with you, and I'll give my right one, just to balance it out. As for the similarities, spot-on, and that's what concerns me the most. I remember having half a squad constantly sitting on the bench. Some bloody good players too. Corluka, Kranjcar, Pienaar, BALE, Pav, Kaboul, Pletikosa etc etc etc. God I hope we're not going to go down that road again!
coopsieyid
Arsenal Next so!!!!
Dublin Hotspur
OK guys, unlike Dublin, I'm not a ****, and I haven't pi$$ed off my wife lol. So I'm off for a bit of TV and, like Dublin, a nice hug. Stay safe fellas, and thank you for a fun day. Despite the shat we're putting up with, STILL no arguments or slagging others off (apart from Sherwood), and people sharing a giggle in the face of adversity. Top stuff guys. COYS

Sorry all, I'm cider spurs daughter. My dad has gone to the hospital due to his back playing up yet again. As soon as he gets home he will get Back to you all. He asked me to post this message so you didn't think he was ignoring your comment. Many thanks Cider spurs daughter :)
Cider spurs
Yiddyboy , totally agree about ENIC wanting to keep us in a state of flux . Their not interested in taking the next big step or the investement required to take it .Anybody truly having aspirations of footballing success would have taken the next step by now , we have been close enough that a granny step would have shown our ambition . I repeat , I am a cynic !!
sandroman
We'll that was just awful. If we were going to play 4.4.2 then it had to be with Soldado. He scored v Cardiff and not started since. He is not an impact sub. If there was ever a game to play 4.5.1 then it was this one. Townsend and Lennon wide with PAulinho, Sandro and Eriksen. We have to play players in their right position. We had. 2 left backs on the bench and play NAughton. Just a joke. To cap it all when 1-2 down he brings off Sandro, good decision, but brings on Bentaleb to shore things up presumably. This was the last straw for me this season. No more tickets under Sherwood. He has lost me, not just the dressing room. I have a family Easter trip to the FUlham game that cost me £171 then that is enough. Will come back when we get rid of that clown. We have good players and they will all be back from injury when they have respect for the manager.
CoysRus
James , sorry I didn't reply earlier ,bedtime here in NZ ,anyway I understand what you say re : stability , training ground etc ,also looking at past failings in our club management , but I as I said on another thread we can't keep looking back in fear and let that stop us moving forward or we may as well accept ENIC and their shortcomings and accept that this is as good as it gets . I personally feel ENIC are past their used by date in respect to the football side of SPURS . I say move aside and let someone with more bravery have a crack , yes it may fail , but at least let us fail trying , if we always worry about what the future holds we may as well stay in bed and wither . I know I have had some spectacular failures in my life but they have only sweetened my spectacular successes and I wouldn't change very much I have done in my life . I can only hope that the owners of my precious SPURS will one day wake up and realise that they hold the dreams and aspirations of so many be people to whom SPURS is as much a part of their lives as their loved ones .
sandroman
Cider's daughter , please wish your dad a very speedy recovery!!! Best wishes COYS!!!

Cider's daughter ,make sure he can't get access to a tv for Sunday's game , might not help his recovery . Hope he has a quick recovery .

Whilst Tim can't even pick his nose, the scouting is being done by his friend Jamie Redknapp and Stevie Wonder, who has looked at a centre back partnership of Ebony & Ivory.
spu 4 life
Best Wishes to Cider, get well soon, even the supporters are going down with back injury's.

I got from the butcher some cooked ham, the butcher dressed it for me, now I'm feeling a bit rough, I think I have a Hamstring injury.

Cider's daughter. Thanks for the update. I hope dad has got you supporting the mighty Spurs! Wish him a speedy recovery. The way we're playing missing the game on Sunday might be a blessing. Good girl for looking after your dad.

G'day everyone ... which means it's your bedtime (for most of you). Good posts on VG, coopsie, you've convinced me on that one!

Cider's daughter (is your name Apple?) ... that's bad news. Hope he is better soon, we need him! :-)

Thank's all for the kind messages, seems that back in January i did a bit of damage to my back. Doctor signed me off for a month, i went back to work after two weeks.

My manager being in the same mould as Tim, decided it would be most beneficial to change my work role that i had been doing for 4 years and have me constantly bent over (insert joke here). Well yet again the back decided it had put up with enough of this and gave up. Muscle spasm, searing pain, and a new ability to walk like I've sheit myself. My boss is gonna go mental, I honestly think my days are numbered whilst he is at the helm. I took a medical certificate in when it first happened back in January. His response was that i had been off work for two weeks out of the first three this year. Mathematical genius, nothing about how you feeling, anything we can do to help on your return. Bellend.
Cider spurs
Personally despite the results my first choice is to retain Sherwood. The DoF system DOES NOT WORK - as soon as Levy can finally get this the better. With Broomfield onboard we can effectively start scouting. All the exotic signings failed to recall a simple truth - we performed most effectively when we had a strong mix of British and overseas players. If the likes of Vertoghen, Lloris, Capoue, Lamela and Soldado leave then so what - for the last two especially Lamela we might make a loss but then should make a profit on Vertoghen and Lloris. And they are replaceable especially if they are not committed. Eriksen frequently played on the left for Denmark and Ajax so it is not as crazy a choice as initially thought, even if it didn't work. And if we miss the Europa League next season it might not be the worst outcome as it either stretches the squad or forces us to have a larger squad with too many mediocre players.
kernowboy71
So Tim's gone on Monday?....Relieved of his post doing what exactly?.
Cider spurs
kernow...Totally understand and can agree with your point regarding a balance of British and overseas talent in the team. The reason the balance will swing toward more overseas players being the ever present is money. British talent does not represent value for money, always costing more to acquire. No way will Levy buy British if he feels there is a similar type overseas player at a far cheaper cost.
Cider spurs
I wrote the Best of British article yesterday morning, so I guess I agree with you as well KB ;-)
oxfordspur
Signing players with prem experience is a good thing to consider and or do. It's not the whole story but an opportunity to ridicule when viewed as a statement alone. What deserves ridicule is paying 107 million for 7 players none with premier experience. That's what we did and we are suffering greatly for it now. If we had mixed that 7 up (ideally signed less) with say 3-4 with Premiier experience then the problem is not likely to be as bad as it appears now, having said that we are 5th. I think suggesting that we should sign QPR or Charlie Adam is not helpful, if we had signed 3-4 very good premier players or players with premier experience plus 3-4 of those we did sign such as Eriksen, Chiriches and Paulinho (or Capoue) we would have had a better season I would suggest.
thfc1006
Come on the Villains!
MAN ON!
If you put Harry Kane and Kyle Naughton in your starting line up against one of the better teams in Europe you are not going to win that game. Very simple.
pratts bottom
thfc1006 - I intimated it earlier this week (not long after you arrived on here for the first time) and I am leaning more towards it with every post you make. The way you put your point across is VERY similar to somebody who isn't welcome on here anymore, and hasn't been for a while, but didn't care and kept returning, because he has no respect for anyone, and that may even include himself.

If I'm wrong, I apologise. If I'm right, I very much doubt you'll last long.
coopsieyid
Just for those who (including thfc1006) thought I was serious about signing C Adam or QPR - I wasn't I was joshing about a certain Redschnapps! See the posts from Coopsie and myself following that comment! A SOH helps in these trying times.
