'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Tottenham Hotspur Vs Southampton

3 Point Lane? Southampton, possibly the only points left on offer for March! Unless of course we do a Benfica on Liverpool!

So, as the sun sets on yet another season full of promise, and Tim (nice, but getting dimmer) shakes hands with his successor on Sunday, Southampton`s Mauricio Pochettino, we once again look at what might have been our season.

We have reached a glass ceiling called 5th place. 1 or 2 World Class Players got us into the CL but without the cash for a Bale or a Suarez or an Aguero we are not going to break through that glass ceiling.

Since Abramovich arrived at the Bridge in July 2003 he has spent £700m on players and it has won him; 1 Premiership title; 2 League cups, 4 FA Cups, 1 Champions League and 1 Europa League. Manchester City spent £930.4m turning themselves from mid table mediocrity into Premier League title winners and title contenders. We spend £108m to turn us from being the bridesmaid to being the wedding jokes!

We Spurs fans can now only sit and watch from the sidelines as Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and Gooners slug it out for the Premiership Title whilst we face the prospect of another season in the Europa League. Even with the squad that we have, we struggle to get a side out toward the end of the season for both Europa and the Premiership. In fact, we have struggled to even know who our first team is, such has been the under performance of our new summer intake. It says it all when a Spurs youth player keeps out a £9m international signing out of the team.

We will probably play better for the rest of the season now that the pressure is off the players. We have no more Top 4 teams to meet after the Bin Dippers on the 31st March and we have little or no chance of closing the gap between us and the Gooners after they beat us at the Lane. Last Sunday was our last realistic chance to get within touching distance of a top 4. Let`s face it ....even if we did qualify for the CL how far would we get when we can`t even beat the CL rejects in the Europa?

You have to ask therefore, where are we going as a club? What can we realistically hope to achieve when our Chairman will not spend the kind of cash City and Chavs spend and we just keep selling our world class players. If Manure had not imploded the way they have done under Moyes we would probably be sitting well behind in 6th place by now.

And so Sunday brings us Southampton, a team that we can probably take on with some level of confidence, you never know we might actually win it. After our Benfica invitation friendly, that suddenly became a contest, we welcome back; Emmanuel Adebayor, Mousa Dembele, Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen. First names on the team sheet will probably be: Bentaleb; Chadli and Sandro and as Kyle Walker is still out with his hip I expect Kyle Naughton will take the right hand side whilst Rose takes the left.

To paraphrase the great Bard; Tim Sherwood is; "Full of sound and fury....signifying nothing" so now all he can fight for is our pride, and even that is belittled all over North London toilet walls right now! I assume Sherwood`s merry men will put Eriksen out left and Townsend or Lennon on the right. But at least we might not look so knackered this Sunday, as in past post Europa League games, as we may have some fresh legs to play on.

So what is our player`s motivation now? What is our ambition for the rest of the season? Even if the Gooners lose to the Chavs and to Citeh I cannot see us catching them, even if we do end the season the way we started it, by knocking off the lower clubs.

I shall take my seat on Sunday at the Lane to watch a game of footy and that will be all it is now and hopefully enjoy watching the players playing with some degree of freedom.
Ah well there is always next season! We`ve tasted the Portugese Plonker, let`s hope it`s not going to be a Spanish "Vino Collapso"

Good Morning all on vital, tricky game tomorrow, but one i expect to just edge!
spurfect one
Start Chadli more centrally, start Naughton at RB, start Kane if Ade is not fit. Even though i am a fan of Bobby, his lack of service and inability to make things happen on his own is becoming a hindrance.
spurfect one
Liverpool have not spent anywhere near Chelsea and City's outlay and are doing very well thanks to a good manager and good buys. Anyone can manage the pick of world footballers to the top of the PL but a good coach and scouting network can also succeed. Problem is Levy doesn't have a clue who to appoint. If Tim is still manager next season, he will have a proper chance to prove himself. It's not just about money.
Harry-Kari
I expect a close, well contested match and Spurs to win it.
MAN ON!
Good morning... sincerely hoping the Sunday after Thursday routine won't hit WHL. Still full of hope to see the Spurs win handsomely but 1-0 will do!

Looking forward to Freyers continuing his time on the pitch - he did well on Thursday and the last few times... would like to see Eriksen return but think it might be the same as Thursday in MF...EA injured ? Let's try Kane and Soldado? We did OK with two up front@SMS - one of the better games attended this year.

Rumours of new signings starring to surface... a Belgian forward (albeit a gooner) not Benteke ? and Lescott or Richards....

"What can we realistically hope to achieve when our Chairman will not spend the kind of cash City and Chavs spend", ok so where exactly is that money going to come from ? this piece might be a bit more credible if you'd explained that. Chelsea and City spend money, all we did was reinvest what we got and replaced the players we'd lost, there's also the question of the wage bill, what they spend is vastly more than we could afford. But why let facts get in the way of a good sound bite. Pochettino our next manager, what the hell has he done ? you need more than a foreign name.
jod
Jod, several good points there.

On your point, "Pochettino our next manager, what the hell has he done ? you need more than a foreign name."
The same goes for a British name aye? It doesn't matter what name - we need someone to stand up to Levy with experience and success behind him! That's my opinion.
Highgatespur
Yes Highgate, Freyers looked good against Benfica, I also thought Sandro was good at back, top player imo. would start Chadli on sun, ericksen needs to start as well, Soldado looks very unhappy and short on confidence.
Thats Entertainment
if dim sum leaves our christian on the bench again or puts him out wide when he should be building a team around him it just confirms what ive been boring you all that he is completely pathetic and useless as a manager and please dont come back and talk about lack of experience ect we could all do a better job than he has done, i just despair guys coys
tottspur
Off topic. I see AVB is fourth highest payed manager in the world at zenit, on 7.1m sterling per year! Wow!
Dublin Hotspur
TE, IMO we need Sandro in CM... the decision makers need to decide whether to ditch Soldado completely or to back him completely by giving him another prolonged opportunity... seemingly it is not doing good for anyone by tantalising an opportunity now and then.... Kane did look good in holding the ball up.... glad for him after all those loans!!!
Highgatespur
Well Dublin, he doesn't seem to negotiating skills does he?!!! Good luck to him!
Highgatespur
So this is it then ''Pieces of Eight'' (which was a spanish coin) eight more games to go, I was thinking back to our past fixtures and trying hard to think of one game I enjoyed so far this season and I could only think of Man Utd away, as for the rest just a blur, I would have enjoyed the other night had we got one more goal and won in extra time, to put one over on that smug jesus george or what ever his name is. Eight more games will be like a death of a thousand cuts, you just want it to end, well I do. I have never in my life as a spurs fan known a season like this one, have you? So much has already been said on here all good, all different opinions, now it looks as if Tim (in the stands) Sherwood will continue this on sunday, has Levy had a word in his shell like. Please god let it all end soon.
spu 4 life
tottspur, IMO Lloris, Vertonghen, Sandro, Eriksen should be the first four names on the team sheet.
Highgatespur
Sorry Dublin, he doesn't seem to *be lacking* negotiating skills does he?!!
(apologies - my eyes probably popped out on hearing that!!!)
Highgatespur
OVM.... interesting analogy. We cannot honestly compete with the financial clout of the four teams above us or Man Utd so we are doing well to stay in the hunt as long as we did. Especially considering all the changes and injuries (yet again) we've had this year. Not sure I'd want Pochettino as our next manager. He's only been here for the one season which started well but has dropped away. Anyway for tomorrow I think if all are fit the team should be Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul, Verts, Fryers, Sandro and Bentaleb, Lennon, Chadli and Eriksen with Ade up front. COYS
longtimespur
Chelsea to win, we can still catch scum, I BELEIVE!!!!
Thats Entertainment
TE after the cardiff match winning goal Soldado was the most confident I've seen him. He simply had to start the next match, but it was Chelsea, far enough be tactical and play one up front. Confidence still high so got to start against Benfica, no Harry Kane has been turning up on time to training all season deserves a start, Soldad thinks wtf can I do, confidence shot not just short.

That and bringing Siggy on and taking Sandro off last week has made my mind up on Tim, no man manager, no tactical genius, no way he should be spurs manager next season.

I'm looking forward to watching tomorrows game but it means nothing..
T.H.F.Chris
Spu 4 life - I fully understand your point but unfortunately I do remember worse seasons; 1974-77 seasons, 1999 -2004 seasons come readily to mind....

the games I enjoyed this year: Soton (away) Swansea(away) Manure (both) Aston Villa (cc + away) Cardiff (away) Fulham (away last 15mins) - you're not that many!!!
Highgatespur
jod & Highgatespur interesting views on ext manager, if we are going to have one, I would keep well clear of the Soton manager Pocahontas is it, he might get one over us tomorrow, then Levy will be creaming himself, like he does with every player who scores or plays well against us, No thanks. If we are going to progress and we require a stern manager, with experience at the highest level, then for me it has to be LVG.
spu 4 life
Derby 1-0 v Forest... come on Chavs!!!
Highgatespur
Didn't realise tomorrow's game on SKY - why?
Highgatespur
T.H.F. Always look on the bright side of life, you never know we might start to improve under TS.
Thats Entertainment
Our season is not, as some suggest, over. We are playing for 5th place with an outside chance of 4th! Personally, I think Arsenal and Pool are the two we want to see drop points, complimented by a winning run of games from us. There’s still lots of interest ... including how the players and team perform and how TS manages the team selection and bench. The biggest interest for me on match days has become the team selection. I still have absolutely no idea of our best 11 so don’t even bother speculating now. But I do find predicting the score is fairly easy (I said easy, not successful!)... so I’m going for a 3-0 home win! COYS
Geofspurs
THFC - it's hard to stop the habit but watching Spurs does mean something to me - I want the Spurs to win every ******* game!!! I'm still that little kid when it comes to wanting the mighty Spurs to succeed EVERY time....
Highgatespur
Highgate they were all good and enjoyable games, except the Man U at home IMHO, we should have won it and gave away silly/lucky goals twice. Thing is though none of those games are worth remembing next year, Utd was the only big scalp but west brom, Newcastle and about a million others have won there this year... Liverpool is our last chance at winning a game that means anything.

By comparison last season Scum at home, Utd away, Liverpool at home are the three I still remember without having it think about it, City at home also comes to mind.
T.H.F.Chris
2-0 already to Chelsea!
MAN ON!
TE haha life of brain is quite an apt quote for Sherwood, and I think the improvement will come after TS, that's the brightside mate.
T.H.F.Chris
Happy 1000th Wenger!
MAN ON!
Brilliant Man On. Before the game I wanted a draw, now just want to see Chelsea absolutely ****** them.
T.H.F.Chris
...So do I T.H.F.Chris.
MAN ON!
Highgatespur - So what success and experience does Pochettino have exactly ?
jod
THFChris - the atmosphere at those games were good as well - Like you, with my fast receding memory in tow, I doubt if I will remember many games from this year...
It was especially sweet at manure as it was NYD and they had won some 5 games before us - so we started their slide as it were!!!
Highgatespur
Brilliant first 20 minutes by Arsenal. Hope they can keep it up!

EYE EYE !!! Game Changers are at it again ''The Rime of the Ancient Mariner'' haha sent off the wrong player what a plonker rodney, Arse can get gibbs red card over turned, Mariner was looking to sent Gnarby off but his not playing, you would not want to be innocent in a line up, with him doing the ID.
spu 4 life
Jod from, "Pochettino our next manager, what the hell has he done ? you need more than a foreign name." The same goes for a British name aye? It doesn't matter what name - we need someone to stand up to Levy with experience and success behind him! That's my opinion.

What you think I am advocating Pochettino from what I said???!!!

Highgatespur
3-0 Derby
Highgatespur
Lee Treend his still on the pitch, his wearing a blonde wig now
spu 4 life
Highgate. agree I can see the Man U good going into the list, couple of good performances from Eriksen and Ade especially.. Also if you went - think Man On was there - it'd certainly be one to remember.

Best thing about today's game is Jose hates Wenger, no way he'll let Chelsea give any mercy....come on 8-0!!
T.H.F.Chris
Howard Webb is the best ref, why did he not get this game?
spu 4 life
Let's not be carried away by Thursday's performance. Chadli coming good does not solve all our other problem We cannot rely on the rookies to see us through. We still need a manager who can get the best out of the quality players on our books. Slagging them off publicly as Sherwood did and then suggesting the Benfica result was down to the team playing for him does not help in this respect
standstoreason
spu 4 life are you an Iron Maiden fan ;) COYS!

THF, Nice to see you've cheered up, at the expense of our manager, mate.

I think O-C will be banned when the red is overturned... it was done in a similar case earlier this year or last...

Credit to Chelsea they have pressed high up the pitch all through this first half, not given the arse midfield or defence time to settle.

Pochettino Is he better than Tim Sherwood? Pluses --Has previous manager experience in Spain and here with Southampton. ---Rated a success. -- Played at a high level. Speaks Spanish and French and English ?-- Has Premier league coaching qualification. Minuses:- May be the next Arsenal manager? - Foreign Sherwood pluses:- Has a temper - Knows the club - English, Minuses:- Still to pass Premier League coaching badges, No experience except U21 Manager - English

One wonders why players wear numbers and names on the back of their shirts, perhaps somebody should ask Andre Marriner. In a season of a catalogue of poor refereeing decisions, this one must take the biscuit. Firstly he wasn't giving the "stuck on penalty", then somebody tells him to on the headset, so he gives it, and then sends off the wrong player, despite Oxade- Chamberlain clearly telling him "it was me ref", scandalous. Whoever appointed the officials for this game should have anticipated problems, with Antony Taylor, comfortably the worst referee in the PL, standing as 4th official, and Adre Marriner another on the list of poor referees standing together, a nightmare scenario. Having said that, I bet Marriner and Taylor both have games next week, they should both be suspended by rights.
Frank
*should be*

Sorry to go off topic, what what a terrible dilemma: always good to see Arse 'n Hole getting trounced, but never good to see Chelscum doing well. I guess today I'll go with the being happy to see Arse 'n Hole getting trounced. six bloody nil as of this moment.
Falstaff the Fool
AW on his comments about the sending off: "I didn't see it and the referee confirms that he didn't see it either!"
Highgatespur
Falstaff - never a dilemma when it involves the squatters... there's a fire drill at the moment!!! L'Arse team have decided to follow their fans!!!
Highgatespur
WENGER OUT! Lol!
Dublin Hotspur
Never Dublin - never want him out !!! But get your point!!!!
Highgatespur
At least we've only been hit for 6 once this season! Gooners twice!
Dublin Hotspur
Damn, only 6!
MAN ON!
Did you see that ludicrous display this morning?
Rapm
For your curiosity Man On! I like to keep track of old boys of Spurs - esp. the youngsters thus Derby County - Simon Dawkins...

As for QPR - who cares? they're in the playoffs aren't they ?

Interesting to see how ole 'arry is seeking new ways to avoid finishing 3rd or 4th in a division. Old habits die hard I suppose!

Ok?
Highgatespur
Dublin - speaking too soon ?!!!
Highgatespur
I see from the cameras over scum bridge the goners had already left the ground well before the final whistle... there was no-one at the exits at the shot shown!!! And they make fun of us!!!
Highgatespur
hmmm.. Simon Dawkins wasn't even in the Derby squad today... But Tom Carroll is in the QPR starting line-up against Middlesbrough, so I guess you'll be supporting them now Highgatespur? lol
Guyver
Come on Cardiff!
Dublin Hotspur
Unless we are fully committed, switched on, and totally "at the races" tomorrow, this is a fixture that we could very well lose, especially if we only play for one half of the game, which has become customary this season. they play good football at pace, with young enthusiastic workers, runners, and not a little class, and are managed by a guy having a blinding first season, who has got them playing to a method, with a consistent team set up. If we allow them to, they are well capable of turning us over, even at WHL.
Frank
Wow - such interst in blinding - Dawkins is currently injured has left the club (after quite a series of bad luck) while Carroll is on loan!!!!! Although your personal interest in my words is flattering it's puzzling... there is a world of difference in supporting a club and having an interest.... were you wanting anyone to win @ scum bridge today? And would that be supporting or taking an interest... Ok?
Highgatespur
Great article OVM - but I'm sure the chavs won more than 1 league title under RRA. Wasn't it 3? (JM x2 and CA x1).
neymar
Frank, heard/thought of that so many times... words fail me... Agree with you totally - if they are in control I can see a few going in later on !!! But have faith we will win... last match before the parking contra;s come in ....BOOOOOOO!!!
Highgatespur
2-1 Cardiff!!!
Highgatespur
Dublin, 1-1 cardiff booooooooo!

btw my last posting was in response to guyver's query...

Highgatespur
1) Major difference between Chelsea/Arsenal and Derby County!
2) You weren't taking an interest, you were cheerleading.
3)If you don't want people to take an interest in your words, don't post on a public forum.
4) Carroll is a current Spurs youngster and is actually playing today, doesn't make sense that you would cheerlead for Derby, but not QPR, given your "explanation" for taking an "interest" in Derby.
5) You could have simply admitted you were supporting Derby because of Harry's QPR!
Guyver
Come on Swansea!!!!
Highgatespur
Highgatespur.. Are you in a bad mood today?
MAN ON!
TE you're right I shouldn't be so depressed but I pay near on a grand a year and the standard of football is nothing like your name, and the standard of management is no where near the level required. I gave Sherwood a chance and supported him on here but he has made so many novice mistakes it is obviously going to take him 3-4 seasons to get up to scratch.
T.H.F.Chris
Guyver - the derby match was on the telly!!! Please don't read too much into it - the head might hurt. Take care
Highgatespur
Man On! Certainly not - esp. with the scumN7 losing ! Hope you are not ... Take care.

1-0 Middlesbrough!!!! oh, bye Highgatespur ;)

THFChris similar thoughts as you .I am starting to total it all up at the moment .... it doesn't make good reading : additional costs £59 to lose 4-0; £50 to lose 6-0 £62 to lose twice @Emptycrates but as they say all I would be doing it watching it on the laptop/ pub... having the choice much rather be there.... as the song goes"you're my Tottenham...." COYS - v interested to see how the crowd react tomorrow. Where do u sit?

It's half-time in the Chilean Primera; U. De Concepcion 1-0 S. Wanderers. Just sayin. If Spurs turn up this should be a good game for the eye. It'll be very open unless we work hard to shut them down. So'ton can certainly win the match, but so can Spurs, and it's nice to at least think that possible when we're at home. Shame, but the scousers are kicking Welsh ass all over the place.
jerkinmahjurgen
2-5 in Cardeaf. Liverpool won't have a better opportunity to win the league.
jerkinmahjurgen
Cardiff all phacked up, 2-5 to bindippers now, what a great season they having
neymar
Good thing we sold that Caulker fellow. Looked horrible on a Sturridge goal just now. LOL Scousers dipping the ball into the bin at a pretty good rate today. Just as soon see them win the league as Scum, Arse 'n Hole, or Man Citeh, although, in the end, who gives a rat's arse on a Wednesday night which one of them does.
Falstaff the Fool
Block 27 mate, I went to the first emptycrates match, nearly went to the second but lucky my mate didnt apply in time. Have you found the London over ground route to the match yet, not advertise properly on TFL but you can get from Highgate to the Lane in 35 minutes if lucky.

So many PL goals today!

Lol, it does make a change to see the scousers putting something back in the bin, Falstaff. High time...

To cheer myself up i just looked at the table, nearly worked....had we won last week we would be looking to go level with the scum tomorrow... They are still well and truly catchable, we just need to sort ourselves out, the fixtures are so easy after Liverpool.
T.H.F.Chris
Suarez hatrick, cheers Harry great decision, he is too similar to VDV, but where is VDV now.
Frank
Results: Swindon Town 1-0 Preston North End.... Middlesborough 1-3 QPR.
MAN ON!
Frank I really wanted Suarez when we had our chance, now by far the best player in the league, him and Bale would have been unstoppable last season.

We have basically got two games left to try and salvage 4th, sounds very unrealistic but if we win both we could still compete... If we don't we should just focus on our new signings playing them in their preferred positions and giving them as much time as possible. I don't rate him but as others do and he scored a couple Thurday night you've got to think Chadli has to play every game and all 90 minutes of them. Anyone know if Lamela is still in London?
T.H.F.Chris
Everton leap frog us into 5th with a game in hand. If we are not careful we will, as many wish, miss out on a EL place.
Frank
Girlfriends team is losing 2-0 in the welsh premier league, Port Talbot 2- Prestatyn Town 0, every night she shouts out press that in, press that in.

Come MAN Utd the race for 7th is on !!!!!!!!!!!!
spu 4 life
Amazing goal from Rooney. I'm always up for the spammers losing.
jerkinmahjurgen
Spu 4 I like your thinking. Frank I know you are old school and its the 'right' way of thinking trying to win all the competitions including Europe but facts are EL messes everyone's season up, we can't cope and it would do us a massive favour playing once a week - the what about CL arguement doesn't wash because that is exciting and fun, you are prepared to take a hit for that sort of entertainment.
T.H.F.Chris
T.H.F.Chris If the europa was just a straight knock cup I would be all for it and none of this you can't draw a club from your own country lark, no entry for CL drop outs, going to some third world country like russia is not my idea of fun anymore, for me I would rather us a million miles away from it.
spu 4 life
Hippo Head's two nil down to Chris Moyles
spu 4 life
Spu 4 totally agree, it's a wooden spoon competition purely design for marketing and as a revenue driver. There is no class associated with it. They've got it the wrong way round as well, if anything the champions league should take 27 games to win.. The EL first round proper doesn't start until the rejects join and by that time you are so bored of it. We honestly could give our tickets away for the league stages £0 zero takers.
T.H.F.Chris
yep I'm sure we won't miss the c11m from the europa, nor the route it gives into the CL etc etc...but still that argument has been done to death.

Well said shedboy2 - done a million times over - nothing to add...

perhaps Andros should get a job in our PR dept!....as for a starting spot, surely people can see he's not a top quality player...squaddie at best for us....(that ensures a goal today!)....use him and rose as part exchange for Lallana and Shaw.....as for today...press hard win the CM battle and we'll win the game....

Hotspur 1882
It would be god to see increasing involvement of Harry Kane in the remaining games. Looking ahead, a squad which includes young English or British talent, blended with some continental/South American flair would be brilliant if given the time to develop.

But that is for the future. The season isn't over yet. Every game should be viewed as an opportunity to gain three points. After today, Anfield beckons. Trepidation should not enter into the equation. Let Liverpool worry about Spurs. Especially with Arsenal looking increasingly fragile, I don't subscribe to the notion that fourth is out of the question. Only when it is mathematically impossible should anyone, particularly the players accept that it can't happen. Only after the final whistle, on the final day of the season is it over. But only until August.
Hotspur 1882
On the 23rd of December 2013 Daniel Levy wrote in a official club statement on the THFC website, regarding the appointment of Tim Sherwood. He wrote: "We have a great squad and we owe them a Head Coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season. "We are in the fortunate position of having within our Club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood. "We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward." Since this official club statement Tottenham Hotspur have been knocked out the League Cup, knocked out of the FA Cup, knocked out of the Europa League, and are all but out of the race for a Champions League spot...
Pele10
Yes, Pele 10.....But Tim inherited a squad built by others. I suggest we judge Tim and co', on next seasons performances.
82spursdebut
You have to judge the manager from when they start, taking many things into account, of course. We can't look at next season without finishing this, as our current position is precarious, at least from the outside. We've still time to see improvement before the season ends. Still time for Tim to lose the players. There are issues Tim is having to deal with that he wouldn't give himself. Like having people that can't speak English. I can't see him signing players like that, maybe in exceptional circumstances. You'd take Messi even if he couldn't speak it, but 3, 4 players? You wouldn't do that to yourself. AVB is fluent in a few so it wasn't such a big issue for him. Tim is real-time. He'll wanna sit down and talk with the player, see if he can see in him what he's looking for. You can't do that if you can't communicate. I'm bracing myself for a couple of Shane Long-type targets - not really my bag - but to give us something we lack. One or two that you don't have to motivate. They're gonna be up4it when they play. You can spend your time on tactical intricacies rather than wasting it all trying to get players in the mood. Get a couple like that in... it rubs off on the rest.
jerkinmahjurgen
Hotspur 1882. I agree, the season is not yet over and 4th is unlikely, but not yet impossible. Arsenal have a similar record as Spurs when playing the top teams and in City's case it's been the lower teams that have caused them trouble. It's been a season of shock results and I don't expect that to change with the remaining few matches. Liverpool are scoring goals for fun but have conceded the same amount of goals as Spurs in the same amount of games played. 38 in 30 matches. So a win at Anfield is not out of the question and a draw at least is , I feel, realistic. After then. although it still won't be easy, there are winnable games and those around us will be dropping points. Let's hope for a good result today. COYS!
MAN ON!
Pele you can't blame Tim ''been knocked out the League Cup, knocked out of the FA Cup, knocked out of the Europa League, and are all but out of the race for a Champions League spot'' It's the other teams, they keep scoring more goals then we do, it's that simple.

Rare as it may be, but I have to side with Pele10 this time, especially the quote "We have a great squad and we owe them a Head Coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season".

Take a closer look at that statement from Levy...'great squad'...yep, still tinkering an playing players out of position, 'a coach to bring out the best in them'...yep, still waiting, though as per AVB, glimpses, 'enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season'....hmmm, enjoy?, exciting?, strong finish?. In any corporation, Levy would've been long out of a job!

I have at no time ever blamed Tim Sherwood for yet another seasons of total failure at THFC under ENIC! How could I possibly blame a novice coach, who was employed by a desperate chairman, who in 14 seasons has earned himself the worst trophy per season percent of any THFC chairman in well over half a century. Tim is not in anyway to blame for not having the required skills to be the coach of a top flight professional football club. He is only the TEMPORARY coach of THFC because that total joke of a fantasy football LOSER chairman employed him after back stabbing yet another Spurs coach last December! We may have been knocked of the League Cup, the FA Cup, the Europa League and have all but lost our chances of competing in the CL next season since LOSER Levy fired AVB without having a top level coach to replace him, but I am not blaming Tim Sherwood for this in anyway. He was just a back room training boy who got a shock telephone call from a totally desperate chairman offering to make him rich... It was not Tim Sherwood who built up his credentials on the 23rd of December 2013! it was that thick as an ENIC plank total LOSER Levy!!! Please read again Loser Levy's very own words... "We have a great squad and we owe them a Head Coach who will bring out the best in them and allow them to flourish and enjoy a strong, exciting finish to the season. "We are in the fortunate position of having within our Club a talented coach in Tim Sherwood. "We believe Tim has both the knowledge and the drive to take the squad forward." ENIC OUT!!!

Way to give away a goal once again. Will no one rid us of such defensive errors? Another completely inept display at the back by Spurs. Where exactly was Kaboul as Naughton attacked the ball. Yes, he timed it all wrong but for the centre half not to drop in is a schoolboy error. Same as second. That offside rule changed fifteen years ago so why are they trying to play offside in that position. Just push up with your man and stay within a yard of him. It just proves there is no coaching going on at Spurs nowadays. At least we nicked one back.

markyboy40
Our defense has been $hit but our midfield has been totally dominated thus allowing more pressure on the defense. I'm still waiting for dembele to have a 5 star game.

Soldado has been head and shoulders above everyone in the attacking department, the only one showing true class, play players around him and he will shine, too many times he is isolated, not his game whatsoever, get eriksen near him and let them work their magic.
spurfect one
i expect there will be a few f words heard in the dressing room during the interval.

How can we have two Kyles to cover one position and neither can play defense? Let's pray that this Naughton version of the name is getting all the buffoon errors out of the way all at once.

Guyver
Saints and Sinners; If we can stop making mistakes, we might get back level and go on and win this, the tactics are working well, we just need to run around a bit harder, sure Tim will tell them that at HT; Soldado has held the ball up well so far, great touch to put Eriksen in and nearly got his second goal. Timmy stands, but so far not delivered.
spu 4 life
It is like watching schoolboy football. It's sad. Plenty of empty blue in the stands again. It looks to me like the empty blue spaces are growing each game. On that first half it is no great surprise. Who chooses to keep preserving with the high defensive line when we get caught so often and concede so many? You don't have to be a genius to see it is not suitable to our defence and yet we've continued to play it for 12-months. Lack of intelligence all round.
SpuriousLife
We are not capable of passing the ball. Period. There is a complete lack of anything in midfield that resembles creativity. We can't even tackle! The midfield makes no contribution offensively or defensively. Just all passengers.

But lot's of decent hold up play by Soldado.
Falstaff the Fool

Klutz
Dublin, I we want Tim to sit in the stands, I'd ratherhe sat next to Levy and laugh off the shenigans on the pitch!.
Critical_Spur
Both Saints goals were down to mistakes by Kyle Naughton. He and Danny Rose must be competing between them to see who's the worst full back in the Premiership. How we miss the forward drive of Walker and BAE. Speaking of drives, where are Dembele and Bentaleb taking us? Nowhere. Dembele dwells and dwells and dwells. Bentaleb watches and watches and watches. Sad part is, the bench doesn't give much hope either. Ah well, back to being a mediocre mid-table side. At least we not trying to avoid relegation. Maybe next year if we carry on as we are.

Sherwood's pride may once again be dented BY BILLY BUNTER 1:59PM 22 MAR 2014 TIM SHERWOOD had to keep his distance from Benfica coach Jorge Jesus in Thursday’s Europa League clash and I can see him losing the plot again when Tottenham play Southampton on Sunday. Mauricio Pochettino is one manager who has been heavily linked with the Spurs job and that’s bound to rub the increasingly irritable Sherwood up the wrong way. And what happens when you rub Sherwood up the wrong way? You get a splinter. Because he has wood in his name, you see. I’ve been happily chuckling at Sherwood from a distance but I don’t think I’d have the guts to wind him up at close quarters. He seems a bit close to the edge at the moment. I’m not saying he’s going to do a Pardew, but you know what they say: “One minute you’re throwing gilets, the next minute you’re throwing punches.” No doubt that was in Pochettino’s mind when he tried to calm rumours that he was off to Spurs at the end of the season. He said: “When I was at Espanyol I was rumoured to be linked with other clubs. Nothing ever came of those rumours and now the same thing is happening at Southampton.” Nothing ever came of those rumours? Then how did you end up at Southampton, eh? I know what he means about rumours though. Rumour has it that Sherwood uttered a sentence this week without the word ‘pride’ in it, but I find that hard to believe. I expect Sherwood to be complaining about lack of pride again after Saints boss Spurs in this clash. There’s a pub called Pride Of Tottenham near White Hart Lane which is a bit rough round the edges and I reckon Sherwood’s best chance of restoring Tottenham’s Pride is giving that boozer a lick of paint once he’s out of work this summer.

lol! Well done Billy Bunter, the football punter!!! Amusing post though! ( racing post football bet app- normally very accurate! )
Dublin Hotspur
A very welcome 3 points. I take them gladly but it doesn't disguise what was another ordinary performance (with the exception of Eriksen). Yes we battled and eventually ground out the winner but as a performance it wasn't particularly pretty, fluid or effective. Once again we've had a team under the cosh (second half at least) at home and really struggled to put them to the sword. Like I said I'm delighted with the points but we need performances to build on. This was another in the image of Sherwood. Lots of huff and puff and finally a long punt up field, knock down and good shot into the corner. However the sort of football Spurs are 'famed' for was played by Southampton today.
SpuriousLife
Good comeback win; the sort of game that breeds confidence. Eriksen had a good game, as did Soldado. Now to see how ‘Spurs’ do against Barca! Should be another cracking game.

Great fight back. CE, YK + YV were great, but YK has a problem stopping suddenly from a full run, not a good sign. What the hell was RS doing on the pitch after 70min? :'(, It's just cruel to watch him at times and surely 70m is enough for everyone to endure, even on a good day. Putting AT on RS was a BIG tactical mistake and could've really backfired at any point AT got the ball. AT plays like he's trying out for the England WC team nowadays, a liability who won't be in Brazil and needs to realise this. LS really could have punished this guy. GS did well and was a good sub, might have taken off NB but maybe MD can't last 90m so I can see the thinking. A good move by TS, but he left RS on which was again leaving us with 10 for 90 (I swear his influence is more like a opposition defender sometimes). CE was central to everything today and was really played in the perfect setup where he and NC get creative so neither is burdened with our attacking play. TS - 7/10 not bad... after interview, I anticipate that being reduced to 5/10 after some congratulatory spoofing on his part :/
ardone
Good comeback, good result, but why, oh why, can't we play for 90 minutes. We either start great and fade, or we start crap and recover. If we don't play at 105% for 90 minutes we will get mullered at Anfield. Eriksen, if we can keep him, will become a Spurs legend, and should be first name on the team sheet every game when fit. I just wonder what a top coach could do with this squad with 2 or 3 strategic additions. We shouldn't be scratching or battling results at home against mid-table teams, not with this squad of players. Having sad all of that, having dug the hole in the first half, it was a good performance to come out in the second and get the win. Well done everybody concerned.
Frank
Soton should have had the game sewn up before half-time. Another day of a bunch of individuals huffing and puffing against a proper team. Absolutely no control or direction under sherwood. Thought the better prepared team lost today but for some individual talent and a bit of luck. Sherwood is so far out of his depth its embarrassing. We are going to mid-table if he is allowed to continue next season.
StillRickyVilla
Man On - they were good in the first half. My point is that with all possession and pressure we had in the second half we struggled to do anything threatening with it. We managed to score the decider 2 minutes into injury time after a long punt upfield. A team like Liverpool with the possession and pressure we put Southampton under in the second half would have scored 4 or 5.
SpuriousLife
Eriksen has proved he is by a mile our best signing. Chadli and Soldado seem like they are finally finding second gear, if one of them and Lamela can really turn it on next year we will be a different proposition next year.. Such a god wy to win, my faith in spurs is restoring..
T.H.F.Chris
Actually, forgot first half madness of not changing our defensive line :/... TS: 6/10 definitely, as the two goals were very preventable. I don't really blame KN as the back 4 were made frantic under that pressure by the tactical setup.
ardone
In the world of football logic is Pochettino a better man for Spurs than TS? Who knows? I don't... He's young and has more experience, so he must be....? I still don't know...
MAN ON!
SpuriousLife... I know. My words were more of a backhanded criticism of Spurs really..
MAN ON!
I wouldn't say that was a lucky win. We definitely stepped it up and played better in the second half. 3 goals better.
MAN ON!
Man on, Southampton were by far the best set-up team. We had by far the best individual talent on the pitch today + the luck on the day. Could have gone either way (altho soton should have been out of sight 1st half). We have no control or direction under sherwood. Its just "up and at em" stuff. We have no chance of progressing under him.
StillRickyVilla
My stream wasn't great for first half, but how people are seeing RS having a good game...?! I dunno, he was better than usual, that's just not 'a good game'! Did he have one decent effort? His assist was just from fairy defending, he had about 10 other misplaced passes/bad decisions/shammed shots. Have our standards gone completely through the floor now?! The football was good but that was CE + NC, when RS deserves 90 mins, he should get them, but he still doesn't and needs to set a standard to meet that's not mediocre.
ardone
So we make a great comeback and you can't recognise it? We all see games differently I suppose.
MAN ON!
At least the WHL crowd get what they wanted. Chances at both ends, goals at both ends, end to end up and at em football. We will win some. We will lose some. We have zero chance of threatening the big teams let alone CL (lol) with this man in charge.
StillRickyVilla
Am I right, did we win? Did we lose? was it a draw? Some of you really do make me laugh.... Good night all.
MAN ON!
Ardone I give that a 10/10 performance, that last minute celebration is what football is all about, I had a proper Kevin keegan moment..
T.H.F.Chris
Oh yes, I remember... We won! Well done lads and thanks for being useless. :-(
MAN ON!
Dub, thanks for the text, funny stuff :D

"We have no control or direction under sherwood. Its just "up and at em" stuff. We have no chance of progressing under him." Maybe StillRickyVilla, but Tims win % after 15 games in the EPL is 60%, AVB's was 50% after 16 games. Clueless Tim has beaten teams like Man Utd, Everton and Newcastle, something AVB couldn't do. So Tims' doing no worst than the man he replaced. A decent interim manager he's proving to be.

T.H.F.Chris
Man on, I know we won, but the 1st half was a setup for a disaster, should have been realised and changed by 30m, surely you'd agree? 2nd half, we really should have created more good chances with our possession, and to me, leaving RS on for 90 is almost certainly having a negative impact on the potency of our attacks. CE ran out of steam in the end, but we got the goal, just about. I think we should be taking more advantage of CE's + NC's good play, before they get tired, by having another option up front after RS has had his chance. tWe won, but there was a slice of luck there given the opportunities were not capitalised on, at all, when we really got a grip. I'm happy, but it's hard not to have reservations right now as they're often glaring flaws present as well.
ardone
Crouch! ouch! Stoke goes up on 2MP's low shot.

Spurious ... Sorry but I can’t quite agree with your remark, ‘with all the possession and pressure we had in the second half we struggled to do anything threatening with it’ - we did score 2 goals and win the game!

Won with a last minute kick, Man On. From two nil down to 3pts. This is what football is all about. Ponch ain't getting accolades without earning them. It's a bit disrespectful to think we should wipe the floor with a team that's been in the top8 for most if not all the season. And widely recognized as being fluent and good to watch. We surely knew it would be close? A tough game? We were all as angry as Sherwood at 2 nil down, individual errors and So'tons' best period producing a second. Not only did we not capitulate, get back into it or give up, we won! It's great when you come back from two down. Take the positives.
jerkinmahjurgen
God the Vila defense just looked like ours at its worst in the first half today.
Falstaff the Fool
Lets see where sherwood win percentage is after a full sample of PL games. I.e at least 38 games minimum. Figures easily skewed in a short time-frame. If hes still winning 60 p.c PL games this time next year im a believer.
StillRickyVilla
TE I was quite happy being miserable yesterday, it made cheering up today all that much better... And I'm with Man On today's game, coming back from 2-0 down to win with a last minute screamer showed guts, character and a determination to the end. Best win of the season.
T.H.F.Chris
If you can think of a fairer method for comparison id like to hear it SRV. Only one more difficult game to go on paper (Liverpool), no way TS finishes below 50%. He'd have to lose near all the remaining games. Imagine where we'd be in the league if AVB was able to win more than one game against top half opposition this season. Sherwood's already beaten every single top half team outside the top 4!
Guyver
#1) TO Danny Rose we are the team playing in white!!! #2) TO All players.... when playing a high line ALL players must press the opposition when they have the ball. #3) Please do not allow the ball to bounce, especially over your head #4) Do not play the opposition onside by passing to them #5) Somebody try and play Soldado in like he was doing for others today #6) Why was Dembele on the pitch today (awful game) #7) TO Siggy far better for the team when he came on and what a strike. #8) Doesn't matter where TS sits, he has no influence on what's happening on the pitch. #9) Why didn't Fryers start at LB today? Defence all over the place but not helped by poor midfield 5 pressing Saints when they had the ball. Eriksen class as were some of Soldado's touches. Chadli grew into the game, but the real changer was substituting Dembele. Thought he was really poor in the first half. Siggy pressed high up the field 2nd half and thought we did well because of it. All IMHO of course. COYS

And no StillRickyVilla, i'd rather Sherwood did not get a full 38 games! Just pointing out that if you are unhappy with Tim's win % and how things are going, then you must have been devastated with how things were going under our previous manager. Anyway, we won today, in case you haven't noticed, cheer up ;)
Guyver
Didn't see the game and judging by the comments we were very poor but fought our way to victory in the end. Better than playing Arsenal off the pitch and losing I suppose. Good news seems to be that Pele10 is back so that should ease the abuse on Tim. Well done Tim and the lads.
Harry-Kari
THFC Chris, it was haphazard, but hey, the football in the 2nd half was good, positive, but we're vulnerable and often pretty toothless for all our threat. The two CE goals were really soft, they had plenty of chances, better chances than us too. He's the manager, he gets points for doing the right thing, he looses double points for doing the wrong thing, there's no safety net of being 'unlucky', he must predict, control, adjust in the most effective way, in the quickest possible time or he's loosing points. That's the way it is. One thing I will give him is that he's not tactically rigid, which is a good trait and will see him improve. In fact, and I've been reserving this comment for quite a few weeks, I see a little of the A.Wenger style football in what he's attempting which is a big compliment, is it not? The mistake are made on the back of believing too much in himself/his tactics, and yet I see that sometimes there's good intentions (Chelsea game fell apart on individual mistakes, not on TS's shoulders). If we drew today it would have been wholly on TS, imo.
ardone
Delighted that we got three points today when it was looking so unlikely early on. But what needs to be done to convey to the players that a match requires effort and concentration for a full 90 minutes plus added time. This groups seems not to be able to put together a full 90+ minutes together, so we end up winning, when we do, play the Perils of Pauline.
Falstaff the Fool
ardone, I have reservations too. I'm just putting some perspective in there for good measure.
MAN ON!
Pochettino is doing a decent job at Southampton on a small budget, with a smallish squad, would he have the same impact at Spurs, who knows, but what I do know, and is beyond question, is that LVG has won trophies everywhere he has been, he wouldn't be a gamble, and the teams he has managed are like the whose who of European football. If it didn't work for him at Spurs, it would be down to Spurs not to him.
Frank
Guyver, re sherwoods record so far he has been shocking in the cups managing to eliminate us from every competition (and effectively end our season in the process) in double quick time. In the league as I say the time frame is so short any stats are highly skewed. Remember he won the first 5 out of 6 or something silly in the usual "new manager bounce" but the average has ever since been reducing to the mean which for tim I will be amazed is over 50 p.c over the long term. Pleased with the win today but I personally do not see any plan out there just a bunch of highly talented individuals told to go out there and huff and puff. Just dont think thats going to be enough over the long-term and in particular when competing against highly technical teams and managers like mourinho, wenger, martinez etc. But admittedly thats just my opinion!
StillRickyVilla
I can't remember a weekend with so many PL goals. Some bloody good ones too.
MAN ON!
Highgate, I hope you didn't miss winning goal, leaving ground early, that would be a downer. wish I was there today COYS.
Thats Entertainment
Man On, no doubt that you are, fellow, and I liked yr article on TS. As I said, managers need to do the right thing to be good managers, not be experimentalists*, which is, in fact, what TS is in action and cause. He's got this season and should be his own worst critic, not us, just to improve as he should want to improve. But anyway, seeing CE+NC+YK going well today was great, if we had a performing CM,Winger + CF it would have been very good, if the tactics first half were adjusted sooner, it would have been great, if CE hadn't got such a soft goal before HT, it might have been a serious disaster. TS is hanging on a bit, his fate is unclear because he makes the team perform unstably, and currently that's the real characteristic which often defines our play. It's 50/50 which way any given match could turn, and for a manager, they're not great odds.
ardone
I'm just giving to the end of the season and then see how it goes from there. If we can see some improvement in the last 7 matches then good. I'm not holding my breath. I just hope we can make a good game of it next week and, for the whole of the 90 mins would be nice.
MAN ON!
Had it not been for Eriksen's tireless running, always wanting the ball, two excellent goals, I had Lemon down for MOTM, his man to man marking of Luke Shaw was at times just outstanding

TE ... COYS indeed, today reminded me of Kranjcar's screamer against Bolton (2-1), that along with Lennon's last season and Danny Rose's agaist the scum go down as top three goal celebrations ever.

Ardone I hear what you are saying mate but after the season we have had the only thing I care about is winning. I can't see us changing until the summer, we are what we are now and to be honest I can see some big changes at the back so pretty hard to build anything now. I really just want to see some of the signings given a real chance to make a positin their own for the rest of the campaign.

After about a billion premier league goals this weekend it's got to be a checks score on 0-0 for the El Classico...

coopsieyid, It should have been obvious I was taking about this season. AVB was unable to beat those clubs THIS season. Why would I use last seasons stats to compare Sherwood with AVB? AVB was sacked for what he done (or failed to do) this season, with the set of players we have today. I do try to keep statistics as fair as possible.

StillRickyVilla, please keep in mind that it is not normal for us to actually win any cups, so the fact that teams like Benfica and Arsenal knocked us out is hardly a shock. However, it is quite impressive that Sherwood can alienate half the players (according to some) lose the dressing room, use no game plan and simply tell the players to "huff and puff" yet he still maintains a superior win% in the league and points per game, than the man he replaced. Tim may not be the answer long term, but it seems AVB with his under a goal a game record wasn't either...
Guyver
Guyver... If by a miracle we were to beat Liverpool next week by 6 stunning goals to nil, for some, TS would still have had nothing to do with it and half the team would be seen to have played crap.
MAN ON!
When the team lose, the manager is an idiot.
When they win, it's down to luck.
It seems that if Spurs won every game and never conceded a goal all season, some people would be desperately disappointed. However, no doubt they would find some fault. Perhaps the opposition would be useless, or Tim lucky or some such drive from the usual armchair 'experts.'

Finally back home after the game - a long discussion on the future of the club and the team - hey if "one of us" can do it so can all us!!

Amazingly got to the game by 1.25 having left home at 12.45!!!

Was horrified at the way we think we can win games without a clued in defence....It's amazing how DR seems to love the green green grass of the pitches of late - has he always been falling over?; KN - why do players always tend to have a mare game as soon as the fans start to feel 'okay' with them?!!! I felt for him and wanted the ground to open up... it all happened just in front of me...good for him that DR stood us and decided to overshadow him with his 'performance'!
It's about time YK decided to call it a day - lost so much pace.... good to see JV back... Midfield ? Hmmm - why was Dembele playing if not match fit - bugs me so much that should happen with a bench like ours!

Lennon - don't what to make of him - is he still a winger? Did a good job on Shaw (shouldn't it be the way round ?); NB should now really be encouraged to pass forward in attack mode more often - he has it in him...atm it seems he is always goes for the "samways' like pass...

I thought Eriksen, Chadli and Soldado were just ace in their combination throughout ... Eriksen should have got another b4 HT? Sigurdsen played blended in so well with the trio.... oh for that Chadli pads to be stronger to Soldado in last seconds... AT - come on man, is that all ?...

Relieved but so happy at the win - nice to have that come-back habit back on display!!!
Welcome back Siggy!!!!

Well that's the view for Block 50!!!

Well done to the players on the pitch - your fight back was great to see - and winning once again on the Sunday after the Thursday

Coopsie, good to see you back on here...

I'm beyond the percentage game - we have a great squad who needs appropriate direction/coaching.

It was great to see the combination play - Soldado, Eriksen, Chadli and Sigurdsen; Great to see a sign of (small as it is) the 'new' ones finally blending (Pauli didn't seem that pleased at the goal!).... the crowd was showing some impatience towards the full backs and NB today... Missed the PDC imitation by Da man - no one could say that PDC was class, or could they ?

At the game we were discussing about the Player of the Season poll - or is it a closed shop?!!! Who would your vote go to ?

Lloris - better distribution, not at fault for the goals. Naughts has had a good spell in the team but was at fault for their first. So'ton can pull you apart with passing. Rose. It's attitude with him. It's a trick of the trade to try influencing the ref but you have to know when to stop or it's the boy crying wolf again. He's always scowling and whinging at someone. I'd tell him to pack it in. Kaboul is struggling a little for pace and match-fitness. Verts was fairly solid. Dembele shouldn't've started it would seem but the other outfield players were all good. Lennon had his hands full. Soldado has amazing technique. Eriksen, I don't see why people slate his being on the left. Fantastic from there, as Modric was. It's only difficult to get into the game from there if your team-mates don't pass to you. Disappointed to find us 2 nil down but we won from there. We haven't been doing that so it's another box ticked and one up for the 'never say die' brigade. Cheers, Tottenham! I'm always happy when we get 3pts.

I don't know if the TV picked up on it but ole Naughton was almost distraught as he clapped us at the end... he knew he had a horror in the first half... nice comments on him by Da man at the post match interview (finally...) - it was refreshing.... any chance that DR might pick up on that behaviour?!

A bit subdued at WHL today but good to see the team winning in a typical Spurs style (losing and then coming back to win) - loved the second goal!

So apart from Lamela it looks like the much maligned Soldado, Siggy and Chadli are all starting to find their feet. Eriksen is hitting his stride and Holtby is playing exceptionally well for Fulham. Chiriches looked superb at times until his injury stopped his progress but so it proves that these players needed time to settle and we are seeing the benefits. The timing could not be better. All joking aside Siggy scores, doesn't he? Shown it before in the Prem and doesn't need to be at one of the bigger clubs to do it. Not my fave, I'll admit, but affective. And focused, with plenty of effort. Will carry out managers instructions. An attacking mid/2nd striker he is for me, and if anything I'd push him forward in attack over playing him in midfield but he does a job there, and can STILL score. A bit of both re Madrid, Highgate. We have better players than Siggy, that I'll give you. But do we need or choose to play him? Do we play him enough? In hindsight, maybe he should've started today? You talk about top4 clubs and squads, Bud, but would you want ANY PLAYER from Man U's squad? Liverpools' squad? Arsenals' squad? All squads are tiered. Siggy, by no means a regular starter, but when he DOES play, you want something close to the worlds best midfielder? To come on for 15 games a season when we're short? Like I say I don't see him as a cm but credit to him he comes on, a vast improvement on a much-appreciated (if slightly flattering) Dembele, scores... and yet people will STILL prefer Dembele to start our next game and couldn't care less for Siggy. Can't see wood for trees. Siggy does his bit.
jerkinmahjurgen
Jerk, agreed!
Highgatespur
Bud, I don't know - all I'm going on is what I've seen of them in a Spurs shirt... I didn't see much of neither b4 Spurs. IMO, Dembele does seem to me tends to flatter to deceive - with his swerve, run and a misplaced pass whereas Siggy runs about a lot chasing and misplays passes a bit too much ... the difference being Siggy has scored 3 in 18 and Moussa 1 in 25....

so.... depends on their DoF?!! LoL
Highgatespur
yup 4-3 pen Messi - the Soldado of La Liga!!!
Highgatespur
Highgate, Vdv!! How could I miss him out? A good memory, he is. A gift, remember? From He Who Can Do No Right. Our memories. Our history. Vdv, Berbs, Modders, Bale... we've had a few the last 5, 6 years. We've had gaps in the past, between Hoddle, Gazza, Klinsman, Sherringham. We've got Jan, Lloris, Eriksen as it is. Sandro. Players we should look back on just as fondly in time.
jerkinmahjurgen
I must admit I would've thought Siggy had scored more than that. But what are the REAL stats? How many as a sub? How many starts? How many full 90 mins? Any assists? I haven't got Siggy posters up, btw. Just appreciate a squad player.
jerkinmahjurgen
just watched our twin team play, real madrid also like to gift teams goals
123spurs
Real Madrid will be in for more of our players, rumour they want Rose to replace Marcelo player + cash how much do we have to pay them to take him?
spu 4 life
Jerk, Certainly do - thank god 'Arry didn't say he wouldn't fit in EPL!! Guess which era in the recent past we all tend to miss ?!!! "the man in the raincoat's blue n white army!!!!" Never sung that!!!

Perhaps Isco will join that list and Bale part2 ?? Would that be dreaming too much ?
Highgatespur
Spu, surely he's gone in the summer ?! And that display after his interview this week - the cheek!!! I reckon he's an addiction to the green grass - he falls over so much!!!
Highgatespur
'Arry probably would've. That's why he didn't get asked.
jerkinmahjurgen
Tim Sherwoods' Lilywhite Army!
jerkinmahjurgen
9 2 4 isn't it? He must be fecking lucky.
jerkinmahjurgen
Jerk, that's straight off the THFC website... 3 league goals , swansea, norwich and today... + 1 in El... quite a few subs appearance in that 18 I would expect... I am not a stats man so we'll have to wait for someone else to search all the other things out... I like him as a squad player as well. I bet you've a shirt with #22 on it!!! ... lol
Highgatespur
Liverpool leak goals so it's potentially a very open game next Sunday. Still playing Sundays despite no more EL. See, makes no difference. Let's hope we don't get pasted.
jerkinmahjurgen
Jerk true - hopefully we won't get to sing that and we haven't yet !!! LOL!!!
Highgatespur
jerk - always knew that to be the case - just change the routine... they have a midweek - we got a clear week?!!!

btw you lost me on 9 2 4 !!!
Highgatespur
Right the real MOTD is on now !!!! First viewing for some!!!
Highgatespur
LVG WILL GET THE BEST OUT OF THESE PLAYERS IF HE COMES HE WILL ORGANISE THE TEAM MAKE SURE EVERY PLAYER KNOWS HIS JOB AND WITH A FEW SIGNINGS HE WILL DO A GOOD JOB IF HE DOES NOT DO WELL THEN THERE IS SOMETHING REALLY WRONG INSIDE OUR CLUB.COYS!!!!!!!!!!!!
jc spurs
Premier League record under Tim.
jerkinmahjurgen
We are soft, jc. Mentally. In our desire. It's aomething Tim is in the midst of sorting out. If Tims' slightly brash methods don't get it from the players, I wonder if LVGs' nazi-like approach would do any better. If that's what's needed (and I think it is), Tim can do it, if that harsh 'get on with it' method is what's needed. It's true that Tottenham can't pffer much time to ANY manager, so Tim needs to learn fast and get results along the way, but w9 d2 l4. It's not too bad, is it?
jerkinmahjurgen
Hopefully the spam will continue their current capitulation. I'd love to help send them down towards the end of the season. Would be good justice. Hope Chelsea get beaten to the title and hope Arsenal don't win the cup. The perfect hat-trick.
jerkinmahjurgen
Jerk, thanks for the explanation - it may not be bad for a top of bottom half team but I am hoping that Spurs are aspiring to be a lot better than that record suggests.... a lot better. COYS
Highgatespur
Jerk, we agree and a further one you forgot Spurs in the Top4!!!
Highgatespur
Jerk good list there mate but you missed of Ginola... and of course spin round in circles Steed Malbronque....
T.H.F.Chris
Ghulamville. totally agree. give tim a chance. he has done at least as good as any other spurs coach in the last 20 or so years.
gRAMMSTEIN
Very pleased with the win. Eriksen is going to be really good for us.
Madaboutspurs
I say give tim the chance to prove himself for another season. 60 % win record speaks for itself. 1 or 2 signings, Lamela back from injury. Soldado start scoring, Ade has anohther good year. Eriksen (note correct spelling) show why he has played for Denmark since he was 17. up the spurs COYS
gRAMMSTEIN
Where's Cider lately? Is his back still giving him jip? And where's Geof? Blimey! COYS!
James1
Cider is away for a few days, nothing personal.
oxfordspur
I have always maintained that none of the seven signings were poor, the best of all, Lamela, we've only seen glimpses. Unrealistic to expect instant impact with so many to integrate, next season they will show their worth, we just need a proper coach that the players will respect and Levy to keep his nose out of team affairs. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
I feel shamed to say we took 3pts, a wonderful display from Southampton had us chasing shadows for the first 30 mins. They aren't world class and it wasn't a world class performance but a wonderful performance to show what having no idea what you are **** meant to be doing in the team allows other sides to do, yes Tim Nice but Dim (Some one just said he looks like one of those angry day Sunday League Managers the FA is currently trying to throw out of the game) just send them out to all run round that's why we pay you the big bucks. Honestly this inspires nothing we created nothing and managed to nick 3 goals but other than that did we dominate second half maybe but did that domination bear fruit! NOPE took us to the 90th minute to win. Clueless uncreative dross, please give him his money after the last game along with the other yes men around him and give us someone who has a clue
fletch77
I'll tell you what Dim has the press on side...they were clutching at straws to try and paint him as the inspirational reason for the win...poor Eriksen had a loaded question thrown in his face and said yeah we had a bit of a speech at halftime...that's now being spun. Dean saunders (another terrible manager) was trying desperately to give Tim the win...of course forgetting the 1st half and how poorly the team were set up and that players ground it out and a typical Gylfi pot shot went in...
shedboy2
Good morning - Italian - great to hear similar thoughts - seeing through the charade .... COYS!!!!
Highgatespur
Coopsie - Good morning - thanks for the insight about Buddy - no idea here I fear there are quite a number of similar on here unfortunately.

Lloris would get my vote as well. I really looked hard but Danny couldn't stay standing for long enough LOL!

Agree with you about lalana - WOW! I hope he was impressed with what he'd be partnering with if he were to come to WHL in the MOM, Eriksen - great interview - thanks Eric !!!

Thanks for the data on Siggy - the website needs to give better info - but that's the least of THFC's current probs, methinks. I do think our #19 has benefitted a great deal of goodwill from us while Siggy hash't!! Funny I thought he was most effective in the centre though!!! Admittedly I haven't really taken much interest in him due to sporadic appearances since he has been with us!

Good to hear from you - hope all's ok.
Highgatespur
shedboy2, picked up on it as well aye? Saw it late last night... Classic! Eriksen fielded it very diplomatically I thought.... mind you how else could you describe "beep, beep....beep.....beep" ? Difficult aye?

Good shot though by Siggy - he ors it often enough for it not to be a 'pot shot'....now if Rose did - that'd be a pot shot!!!

I still hold every thing that happens on the pitch is down to the players and no one else....
Highgatespur
Lloris - saved us a few goals this year... a few calamitous moments though but with that defence front of him - especially on the flanks.

btw talking of technical players you must have seen the pass from Soldado to Eriksen for that 'nearly goal' - didn't fully appreciate it, being at the opposite end of the ground, till late night watching it on telly WOW - talk about class - reminded me of GH and VdV....

Yup all is good thanks for asking. you too...
Highgatespur
Coops -- I thought Eriksen had a great game, but like you, Soldier was my MOM. I'd almost give it to him just for that sublime cushioned touch to Eriksen in the first half! He was class yesterday, and I also agree that he has to start against Liverpool.
SpursEagle
Coopsie, SpursEagle, I totally agree with you on Soldado - he deserves a place for all that he did yesterday - out of sorts on Thursday and playing him yesterday must have given him renewed hope - especially after Cardiff...I lost my patience with Lennon years ago (all those in derision please look up the stats on his end products) and Townsend - well I blame Yoy for all that overhype... I only wish that Lamela would have clicked.. I'd go for Chadli instead of paulinho in your team... Chadders (my new name for him) seems to be on fire!! Coops I'd have more trust in your reasoning for your selections than anyone else!!! As long as you don't go "beep... beep....beep.. beep" in your team talks!!!

I really have enjoyed watching Soldado (wish he scored more often!!!), Eriksen and Chadli( more productive in 3 games than any other wide players) lately.
Good to see Holtby making the manager eat his words through his sub appearance on Saturday!

COYS!!!!
Highgatespur
Thanks Ox re: Cider. Regarding the new boys..they are good players..some have needed more time to settle but we are seeing the benefits now. Just a little patience was needed. Eriksen is going to be one hell of a player. Soldado is starting to show his class and Chadli is shiwing what he capable of. Siggy is a much maligned player..nor everyone's cup of tea but playing an intelligent player in a position he's comfortable playing In will show off his ability. Hopefully now the boys will help pip Arsenal for 4th..how funny would that be. COYS!
James1
Lets go for it James1!! COYS indeed!!
Highgatespur
Thx for the Siggy stats, Coops. I thought he's banged a few in. Certainly dangerous and reliable in more than one position.
