'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Doom and gloom

We should have been handed the Premier league trophy before a ball had been kicked this season, that along with the Europa, the FA and League cup. An historic and famous quardupel.

Because 100 million squid always wins everything. With our recent successes (2 league cups, 3 FA's, 2 joint Charity Shields and the UEFA Cup Winners cup!) in the last 34 years, our fans have grown so accustomed to winning, that to not win a trophy this year is completely unacceptable.

Especially since we spent 100 million squid, because as we all know, thats what wins you everything all the time. I think its disgracefull how the other teams of the league have not acknowledged our birthright, and rolled over in suplication for their masters.

There is only one answer and solution, Sack the owners!!! Sack the manager!!! Sack the coaches, the ball boys, the stewards...everyone from the ground up. I hate that this great club has been built in a financially viable way. We should have had Chinese owners pouring sweat shop billions into us years ago.

I would far happier playing in the colour of the chinese flag as red represents courage and determination. In fact we could have bought far more titles than we did this season, cause as we know. 100 million squid always wins everything.

Two armadillos??
coopsieyid
Hi coops hope you're well.
longtimespur
Longtime - The most important thing he forgot, was a point!
coopsieyid
Can't say mate.
coopsieyid
I thought it was a tongue in cheek reply to all that think we should win something every year, regardless of all others around us and what they do.....
longtimespur
Just something in 10 years will do!
Durbanspur
As they say 'sarcasm is the lowest form of wit' btw forgot the sale of Bale in your scenario.... Btw Longtime I think coopsie must be getting better... happy recovery mate, you are forgetting coopsie..

"We'll sing what we want, we'll sing what we want , we're Tottenham Hotspur we'll sing what we want!!!"

Highgatespur
I hope for that too Durbanspur, I never expect it though. Foreever hopeful...lol
longtimespur
Thomas ... Thanks for a good laugh ... and some perspective! Well done. Mate.
Geofspurs
Great article actually. Only 6 games to go and it is still mathematically possible for us to break the clubs all time PL points total. So although the season has been turbulent, it been anywhere near as disastrous as some would have you believe.
Guyver
From one Netmum to another I'd like to say I hope you are recovering well, Coops. Who's Thomas Jamme? And who's Griddo? 4th in the members league? Some names in the league I never see post. ? Are they on vital ass being proper tragics?
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, this is just the front page that we are on. There is also a forum side to this site, full of people who may never see us post.
Guyver
Certainly feels disastrous though, Guyver!
Durbanspur
Negredo going thru an awful run - remind you of anyone ? Amazing what low level of confidence does for everyone - not just Soldado!

Jerk, good observation - newcomers obviously....
Highgatespur
And if it looks likes, feels like, smells like, tastes like......
Durbanspur
Jerkinmajurgen... Griddo began his criminal career as a petty drug dealer in his native Turkey. His legendary persona is born when rival Hungarian smugglers invade his house while he is away, rape his wife, and hold his children hostage; when Griddo arrives, they kill one of his children and demand that he give his business to them. Instead, Griddo kills his own family and all but one of the Hungarians, who he knows will tell the Mafia what has happened. Once his family is buried, Griddo goes after the mob and kills dozens of people, including the mobsters' families, friends, and even people who owe them money. He then goes underground, never again doing business in person he surface here on vital Spurs a year ago. You never heard this from me.......
spurdon
It's a beautiful spring day, Spurs are still not in a relegation battle and Tim is still our manager. People in glass houses are throwing stones, humour is the lowest form of making me laugh and I'm jolly happy in my depression. A pointless post from a pointless man.

Spurdon....as opposed to the usual suspects on here!
vicspur
Durbanspur, I would say, AC Milan, Man Utd, Marseille and maybe Inter are having truly disastrous seasons.
Guyver
Highgate, far from it mate. Jerkin, can't say/answer, mate.

If I'm honest, I have no idea what some people are even talking about & I can't wait for the season to end so I can try and erase it from my memory.
coopsieyid
Thanks, Guyver. I knew there were other forums but didn't realise the level of segregation involved. Bit underground, innit? Proper Netmums logging onto a Spurs site and staying on the political threads without ever a post about Spurs is just far beyond my small level of understanding. No wonder I want Dim to do well.
jerkinmahjurgen
Cannot dispute that Guyver, but we seem to shoot ourselves in the foot all the time!
Durbanspur
Good one Coopsie like that
Highgatespur
Coulthirst started for Torquay today.
coopsieyid
Coopsie, another one destined for the door I feel - not his own doing I feel...
Highgatespur
What a complete waste of time reading that article was.

That is exactly the sort of article that Tim nice but dim would write.Or Harry Redknapp,

The way forward for this club is to get rid of anything that has Redknapps mark still on it,Tim,Les & anyone or anything else that has the `arry smell on it get rid.Friedel another

Man u 2-0 up and 6th in the league tonight. Says lots about our club/the owners/team/manager/players/fans this season. Because we are not blameless in this debacle!!!
longtimespur
Highgate, fair comment re Negredo, but one thing he has over Soldado, at least he had a good run before he went into his bad run, whereas Soldado has been crap all season, and just doesn't look like a PL player. His performances remind me of Morientes another prolific Spanish Striker who came to Liverpool could never hack it and moved on.
Frank
Yup longtime we are in the blame - we've been far too accepting of the ridiculous developments this year!
Highgatespur
Frank, fair comment. One of the things that both Negredo and Morientes had a settled team to operate in ... Soldado didn't! But fully appreciate your point...
Highgatespur
Points are pointless....
shedboy2
Blimey!!! Fanny! I totally agree!! Barrel scraping at its most desperate.
strawboy
HGH.... not accepting the ridiculous developments more like moaning about everything that's happening. I'm not blameless either, but I don't go to games and therefore cannot get behind the team on the pitch. Fanny.... can't argue with your assessment.
longtimespur
Thomas Jamme, very droll, and the irony, and blatant sarcasm, are mildly amusing, but unless it is a complete wind up, it suggests that you are satisfied, and unconcerned, regarding our performances, league position, and sound hammerings received against the proper teams, that have featured this season. Yes we re-cycled £111M of the proceeds from the sales of Bale, Huddlestone, Dempsey, Caulker etc. on 7 international footballers, most of them the wrong international footballers, so that consequently only 1 of these players, Eriksen, has shown with any consistency that he is a sound investment, whilst the other six have either been injured most of the time (Lamela, Chiriches), or have been shown to be poor (Soldado), or have been the victims of the dislike of the coach, so they don't play regularly (Paulinho, Capoue, Chadli), in addition we play top players regularly in a tactical shambles, often in the wrong position (Vertonghen). I suppose the kindest way of describing the situation is to say that the "coach" is struggling to know how to use these players to the teams best advantage, in fact is struggling with all aspects of managing a PL team, which is hardly surprising given his total lack of knowledge and experience, in fact it is a scandal that he got the job in the first place. No £111M does not ensure success, but what it should do, is to ensure that you have a squad capable of competing for the top 4, and the domestic trophies, and yes possibly to get past the first proper team we meet in the EL. Not only have we failed to compete with the better teams, but have been hammered mercilessly in most of these games, have been totally disorganised tactically, lacking game plans, are unable to change the course of games after the KO, and have become the hack's and the TV pundits laughing stock. On top of that our "coach" then talks like a demented muppet to the media, subjecting the club to greater ridicule. Some of us are less than sattisfied with the direction in which the club is heading, a situation that will further deteriorate, when the exodus of the better players begins in the summer. The vultures are already circulating over Vertonghen, Paulinho, Capoue, Chiriches, Lloris, and even perhaps Karl Walker. It is also the case that the lack of CL, or indeed any European football as seems likely, will impact on the quality of the players we are likely to attract, as it is unlikely that potential signings will believe the empty, as it turns out, promises made to the newcomers last summer. We are, unless we are extremely careful how we proceed, entering a cycle of regression at this club, and we urgently need to get the right people, doing the right things, unless we want to waive top 4,5,6 places goodbye in the future, The current hierarchy, and their suitability and competency going forward, are in need of urgent revue.
Frank
Excellent article, yes i would sack the owners, definitely the manager and all his "coaches" and the medical staff, I would keep the rest of the staff though. You have just gone slightly over the top though. Just get a chairman who knows something about football, after all he does run a football club, Levy might just as well be a chinaman.
matt hoten
Frank, agree with your passionate posting. I want my club to move forward and I simply can't stand around and see car crashes occur every week. I backed Juande, Harry and AVB although I didn't want them at the club. I backed the present one (I didn't not want him) until I heard what he said post Chelski game... It's far too easy to blame the new ones... there are plenty in front of them for the blame to be apportioned.
We do need to ask for Levy to stand aside from the footballing aspects - he ain't no good... and go for for a boss with completely different profile to those of who has appointed before!!

We can't go on with the talking disaster beyond May 11 2014.
Highgatespur
Longtimespur - I don't agree that non agreement is like moaning. Support without challenge is a disaster waiting to happen. I fear that's the case in the boardroom (support without challenge) and I fear that's what happened at the ground where in fear of being accused of being disloyal, we've stayed quiet despite one disaster after another since I don't know when.

When at WHL/away games I support the team to the best of my ability... not one boo... but I fear things are about to change, to change the mindset of those in charge.

What a fiasco it has been.
Highgatespur
Is this Pele 10? COYS!

It appears that silly season is set to continue. It is all over Newsnow that the latest person to express a longing for the Spurs job is Ledley King. I sincerely hope that this doesn't mean that Levy will have another "punt", and risk the short to medium term future, of the club's on field performance. Contrary to what Tim Sherwood says, and apparently believes, PL management is pretty difficult, at least it is if you want to do it properly. Ledley was a great player, a Spurs legend, but the PL is not the place to learn how to be a manager, and he could risk his status and popularity amongst Spurs fans if he made the pig's breakfast of the job, that Sherwood has. Potential leaders should go down the leagues to learn their trade before exposure in the PL, particularly at a potential top 4,5 club like THFC. We need a proven, experienced and successful manager at Spurs, a LVG, or Capello, or Ancelotti, no disrespects to Ledley King.
Frank
Agreed Frank
Highgatespur
Best. Article. Ever.
logos8
shi1 article, I respect it as you've a right to write your opinions but this has been the worst season in year, even the ramos/rednapp year was more enjoyable. £100m doesn't guarantee buy you success but it should buy you two very decent players, not 6 shockers and one Eriksen.....

I got this email from Tottenham and thought it was a later April fools day joke:

"Meet Soldado, Capoue, Chiriches and Chadli this Easter!"

No, f&(k off, what am I going to say to them, 'have you meet each other, you want to try it and try putting a few passes together'...

Frank I agree with what you said mate. I am also filmly in the sack Sherwood camp, made some awful decisions, Arsenal subs for example, and now becoming a disgrace speaking out against a TRUE spurs legend. The worse thing about that is he is disagreeing with Hoddle's point our players are not up for it, Vertonghen is playing like we've been relegated FFS.
T.H.F.Chris
it's funny how some of you take this article very seriously when it is clear from the start that it is intended to be a joke.
logos8
all this disappointment and anger because we are not better is ... crazy.. feck it. it's just football. if my happiness depends on some millionaire jokers who should splash the cash and win trophies for me then I am in real trouble. That's why it's great to support the mickey mouse clubs, they can't really break your heart unless you're an idiot. Speaking of low budget clubs:

Oct 24, 2012, Ajax beat Manchester City 3-1 in the Champions League. Ajax fans held the banner "against modern football," and the team their side fielded that day had been accumulated for an estimated £3.5 million.

even Arsenal fans are disappointed and angry because they haven't won trophies but the fact is they have more reasons to be proud of what their club is achieving than those clubs who buy their trophies with ridiculous spending while most of the fans who make it all happen have no idea how 6 digits even look like in real life.

Those who thought of FFP know what I am talking about, shame though that there seem to be enough loopholes for clubs to keep doing their thing while still complying with the FFP conditions.
logos8
Coopsie, take care mate - wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care
Highgatespur
logos I would agree with you on the craziness if we were walking down the street spouting angreness but on a football website - and down the pub on Monday night - is the time and place to vent...

Ajax are a phenomenal club though, considering their league they should really be compared to Celtic or Rangers, them two have had their years but not for several decades...... Stoke are shocking btw.
T.H.F.Chris
All the ingredients that led to our heightened expectations last summer still exist. A deep squad littered with world class players. They are simply demoralised and disillusioned (as are we) that the plan that persuaded them all to come has been flushed down the toilet. And now they have an absolute moron leading them who is so far out of his depth on every level its embarrassing. There is still a chance to save this by breaking the bank and bringing in a LVG, capello level manager who can instantly command respect and get this squad firing. If sherwood is allowed to continue there will be an exodus of the talent whilst he focuses on bringing in 'tryers' in his own image. We will be back to mid-table at best. Lets hope levys mismanagement of the situation does not continue.
StillRickyVilla
Highgate, save it, mate. It's not worth the hassle it creates. Cheers.

People used to just enjoy football in it's simplicity, it's unpredictability and the thrill of an unexpected win. We revelled in watching the one-off players that excite with a superb piece of skill, a wonderful moment of magic. We admired the blood and guts bravado of the tough guy, the fighter. Now? Now we crave an entire squad of so-called world-class players. The thrill, it seems, is in the fantasy, YouTube world of spending ridiculous sums of someone else's money based on 2 minutes of pixilated highlights. The Champions league is the be all and managers are crap until they've won everything. (Some poor sods, even before they've barely had enough time to think about their first match in charge, are written off). A bunch of costly, spoilt and overpaid prima donnas are defended for not bothering and, the ones who care and show grit and spirit, are belittled for not being world class. Simply put, at the end of the day, It's still just football. Football, for football sake.... Please!

Yup TE found out this morning... always sad to hear such events - especially the ones you remember playing!
Highgatespur
some cryptic posts today! Then again, we have a cryptic article. Peeps are all over the place with discussions. I blame Man ON! :0)
Critical_Spur
Highgatespur, you going to the Lane on Monday? If so, can U please wear your 2017 shirt + scarf from now on?. Hopefully Levy will get the message! COYS! We EXPECT!
Critical_Spur
Critical...Yes will be there on Monday - ready for the fake galloping horse!! I am in the process of completing a small 2017 banner - over the North Stand upper tier near the West Stand - look out for it!!! Will probably be removed before anyone sees it!!! Myself included LOL!!!!

No cryptic messages here!!!
Highgatespur
I blame Tim...
MAN ON!
I'll be in North Upper near West Stand on Monday too Highgate. I'll keep my eye out for the banner. Maybe we should run across the pitch with the banner. We'd probably be faster than most of our squad! One thing is for sure Dawson won't catch us!
SpuriousLife
LOL - don't tell me we sit near each other !!! You'll miss the banner it's quite small it'll be facing the pitch - block 50!

Rose will be at wrong half btw...TS will be galloping after us!!!!
Highgatespur
Block 50 for me too! Bloody weird! I'll shout out 'Highgate' and introduce myself.
SpuriousLife
I'll be in the dugout next to Sir Les, wearing an LVG mask, a navy blue gilet and with my balls hanging, heavy and low..... Classy.
MAN ON!
spuriousLife + Highgate = same person or brothers?! :0)
Critical_Spur
I think you two should have a huddle before the kick-off!
Critical_Spur
Not quiute critical!!! Theres 12,000 of us there!!! Spurious - row1 !!!
Highgatespur
And follow the team in introducing each other or have a laugh at what we think they've just been told in the dressing room!!! LOL
Highgatespur
Row 26 for me. I'm more in danger of being hit by a Townsend shot than you!
SpuriousLife
He ain't playing is he ?!!! Are you near those who we refers to as Mcnamara's band - sing all those good old songs?
Highgatespur
So, after today's results, we are now fighting to stay above Southampton! How the aspirations change! Regardless of the manager shenanigans, the lads need to win on Monday just to get their sanity back! Remind me, is it definitely the world cup year?!
Critical_Spur
Sack the owners, sack the coaches, sack the ball boys, sack 'em all. But not Chirpy he's the only one with his dignity intact. Just had a thought, Chirpy and Levy should swop roles. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
I can't hold a note. If you hear someone singing like a strangled cat that'll be me.
SpuriousLife
Critical - thats what they tell me - it starts in June - I don't think those building the stadiums don't know either!

Our present position should bring a smile to some on here!
Highgatespur
Spurious - thats like me singing!!! LOL
Highgatespur
Highgate, re the WC, I was just wondering when our players may start earning their national team call-ups. May be some have eased off in PL to avoid injuries? As for our English contingent, ironically, Defoe my be the only on called-up by Roy. Townsend has 6 games to stake his claim for the plane!
Critical_Spur
Critical. No I seriously don't think that's the issue - especially when it comes to the sinking morale of the team.... Walker Townsend will most likely make it as will Dembele Chadli Verts Paulinho Lloris whereas Daws, Rose, Naughton, Kaboul, Siggy, Eriksen Chriches can't Capoue Sandro Gomes Soldado Lamela Lennon and Bentaleb won't... no I don't think it has anything to do with the WC if there is - it's marginal... I think it's down to what we've been on about for a while!
Highgatespur
Townsend will go to the world cup, he's played better for England than us and helped us qualify. It might do him some good, he came back very confident after his international matches and even scored!!

watching MOTD How fat is Phil Dowd, he really shouldn't be hanging around with super fit premiership footballers.
T.H.F.Chris
Agree with you there are a few like them but he's one of the better ones...
Highgatespur
Well at LOSER Levy won't get nose bleed anymore now he's back home in the safety of 7th place in the League. Naughty Harry overachieved and got us top 4 and gave as a taste of the wonderland of CL football! AVB tried to maintain it, but had VDV, Modric and Bale sold withing 12 months of his arrival and was not given the players he wanted, so we are back now where Joe Lewis likes us to be, without the worries of CL football (very expensive my boy) and no need to worry anymore about paying for a Europa League squad. Now LOSER Levy is free to spend all the clubs money on buying up more local businesses in the hood in preparation for the big ENIC off shore tax free sale my boy... Might as well cash in on the remaining European competition level players such as Vertonghen, Paulinho, Capoue, Chiriches, Lloris, Sandro etc whilst we're at it, as we have an ENIC bowl to build on the cheap and sell, if we can find some mug to pay a few hundred million quid to put their name put their name on the thing half a decade or so before it's built...
Pele10
Pele Levy has done well, he's just signed the shirt sponsor for all competitions which allows us to finish 7th, had that not been signed he'd make sure we qualify for Europa to get that dosh coming in from our 7th, 8th and 9th kit sponsor.
T.H.F.Chris
I reckon Pele10 is Daniel Levy himself - he is very informed!
Highgatespur
clever tactic from levy, create pele10 to hate on him and others have to defend Levy therefore pushing his rating.. I see straight through it, Pele out!!
T.H.F.Chris
Basically what the article writer is doing is mocking Spurs fans for being too demanding & having way too high expectations.

First is Spurs have foolishly always been like,to every poor season that ends in failure we always say"we`ll do it next season",,,"with one or 2 more players we could be in business",,,,,"if we get LGV in & sack Tim we could be all set next season",,,,"If we had a decent striker we`d be up there",,,We`ve been saying these types of quotes since the 80`s & we never learn.

And second thing is our own players & manager do the same thing, here`s a few
Holtby said "We are aiming for very high things. We want to get in the top four, we want to play Champions League. That is the main aim."

"I think we have the squad to do that, the quality and depth as well.

Dawson said"We aim high and we believe we have got the squad - and the quality in the dressing room to go all the way.

"As the manager says, the aim is to win a trophy this season and we are going for every competition."

ledley King said “The way the team are progressing, hopefully in the next season or two they will be really challenging for the title in the Premier League. The fans deserve to see the team do well.”

One of Harry Redknapps

"The title is a possibility. If you keep winning matches and believe in yourself, you will do it.
"If we keep up [our] form, we'll win the league, but it will be very hard."

Andros Townsend said only in November"‘I definitely think we can win the title,’ said Townsend.

‘It’s a big target for us. We’ve had a good start to the season and the boys are feeling good. ‘There’s a great atmosphere in the squad and that’s given us confidence.

Harry again back in2010,,'I feel we could contend for the title; we have got the players here,' said Redknapp,

Bentaleb said this only in February before the March collapse

“We’re going to treat every game like it’s a cup final and we’re going for the win, obviously”

“We know we have all the tools to beat anyone in the Premier League, so we just have to keep on going in that direction.”

So my felling is Spurs players & managers need to shut up & do their talking on the pitch. The expectation is too high because the players & managers give the fans that expectation. When you spend a £100 million you don`t expect to be sitting 7th with 6 games to go.There were still 15 top pros at Spurs, the core of the team,so the excuse about bedding in 7 is a poor one.

levy has to get his house in order & Spurs need to stop talking & the next manager should gag all our players & tell them, talk once you`ve won, shout it from the rooftops, but until then keep it down.

At Spurs everyone believes their own hype far too much.

LVG bringing in his own people, removing the current crop, including the medical staff, Ledley King is currently doing his coaching badges, introduced into the LVG backroom staff, that would lift the doom and gloom.
spu 4 life
You often hear where were we before ENIC took over? Now, just because the previous ownerships were crap it doesn't make ENIC brilliant, we are the 6th wealthiest club in the land so finishing 7th is underachieving and finishing 5th is overachieving. Take away Comolli from the equation (Bale, Modric, Berbatov) and we are in underachieving territory, ENIC have never invested at crucial times to allow us to move to the next level, it did not have to be reckless but enough to show that bit of ambition to the likes of Modric and Bale that Spurs were serious on competing for titles. ENIC OUT.

Good post fa!

123- the game has moved on quite significantly since then...;) IY- agree to a point but success on the the pitch brings the revenue...Man on- how do you extrapolate that out of IY's comments?
shedboy2
MAN ON! Yes we all have such short memories! We have all forgotten that Hoddle was given a huge budget to bring in many world class players! Yes the triple billionaire Joe Lewis said, "There you go Glenn, do a Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, before they do a Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal "... And I'm going to build you a shiny new stadium as well to showcase your great team in, before Arsenal, West Ham, Sunderland, Man City etc etc build theirs... Yes our Hero Glenn was given a massive budget, a new stadium and half a decade as head coach to bring the club success, and blew it!!!
Pele10
No LEVY OUT!!! Pele? Are you relenting?
jerkinmahjurgen
agree MAN ON, with all the players in,injuries, new manager, top players not performing, with all the trouble this season we have done very well. hope we learn from this for next season who ever is in charge.

Lots of talk this morning of Matt Cardle (AKA Adam Lalanna) coming to spurs this summer! instead of Lukaku or as well as? any views on who we'd prefer? I personally prefer Lukaku!
Dublin Hotspur
how can we sign or be linked to players, when TS could leave? LVG in? is levy doing same things as last season

Hoddle's not all that as a club manager, let's face it. He could surprise us if he's learned by his mistakes, but I think he's too unreal to lead a bunch of guys. I mean, you shouldn't really believe the handicapped are paying for sins, should you? That's wayward. Little off-shoots of thoughts like that must surely cloud your overall thinking. Fantastic player, mind.
jerkinmahjurgen
jerkinmahjurgen, Yes it's much better we have LOSER LEVY run the Tottenham team than Glenn!!! Because LOSER LEVY always learns from his mistakes!!!
Pele10
Apparently we've already spoken to Lukaku. Who knows what's going on?
MAN ON!
Pele, Hoddle had some pretty good players in the team and we played some good but, also pretty awful football. (By the way, I don't think we should have fired him so early in that season, even after the bad results). It's all past us now.
MAN ON!
Dublin...Lukaku is a striker, Lallana an AM. No reason why we could not have both, but, a few things to consider.

1. Chelsea have supposedly slapped a £35 million fee on Lukaku's head. Ouch!.

2.Could it not be argued that we have a plethora of AM types already at the club?. Eriksen, Lamela, Chadli and Holtby.

3. A return question. Shoild we not be looking for a player who can dictate games from deep Midfield?, set the tempo, launch attacks with astute range of passing. Capoue is an option, but IMO the only one. We currently play a style that either sees us punt long ball to Ade, or we have ball carrying Midfielders, one's that seem unable to execute a killer pass, well in fact, pass to a team mate in general. I want a player with a range of passing, someone who runs the show. We've not had that since the Croatian left. His passing was not even the best, but he was great at making himself available and kept the flow of the game. I believe we need this back.
Cider spurs
Hugo Lloris....Yours for the bargain price of £100 Million.
Cider spurs
woddle cant talk can he, what did he achive when he was spurs manager
123spurs
Bentaleb, I can see doing that kind of job, Cider, but he's young, as is Lukaku. The trouble with this is that we need leader-types atm. We need one or two who can help drag or motivate the team through difficult times on the pitch. There's no doubt (in my mind) that we signed good players last summer, but we've given them a difficult platform to perform within. As good as Lukaku is, is he the type to give us the mentality change needed? Or is he gonna come in as another promising youngster who will fade away because the platform is still flawed? This summer we need to buy what we NEED. For me, that's experienced, highly-motivated players who feel privileged and proud to play for Spurs. We probably need a striker, LB and CD, so I'd be looking for players in those positions with those traits. If we get those traits with two defenders we could possibly waive some with the striker, for example, but we need to see those traits somewhere. For me, the CD also needs to have pace.
jerkinmahjurgen
Cider ... I agree wholeheartedly with your third point; a Modric type midfielder.
Geofspurs
Pirlo would have been perfect Cider and young TC could have learned a lot from the master. COYS!

jerkinmahjurgen- you shouldn't really believe that there's an invisible man in the sky that will cast you into a fiery inferno if you don't do what he wants should you?....trouble is we end up with the very same guy who feigned indigence at GH comments believing such things...and he was Prime Minister! Beliefs are fairy tales but under law we're all entitled to them, and you skate on thin ice questioning people beliefs even though they have no evidence to support them....shouldn't stop a man who is a good Football Manager from managing....
shedboy2
It makes one personally unlikeable, Shedboy. You'll be dealing with people who have disabled family members. This isn't someone dissing your hair-style or T-shirt. It's your parents, kids or sister. There's also a very small chance of it being an isolated thought. Kick religion out of football. I don't mind people having beliefs but you're messed up if clinging onto out-dated, offensive strains of ANY religion.
jerkinmahjurgen
Cider - We sent that player out on loan to Fulham in January. Holtby's already stated he prefers to play deeper and sees himself as more of a 6, than a 10. And I agree to be honest. He has the work rate, energy and also creativity to play that role. If you watch youtube videos of him notice how many passes forward he makes, that lead to chances and goals. If you had him alongside Sandro/Paulinho for example, in behind an attacking 3 of Lamela, Eriksen and Chadli, the creativity in there would create chances for sure.
rahn DMC
jerkinmahjurgen- I'm with you on kicking all religions out of football...which is why I can't understand holding GH beliefs against him?...
shedboy2
Cider- Holtby can play a deeper playmaker role...I don't think Bentaleb really fits that profile...he's more a box to box player (never a dm and not creative enough for an AM) but it depends how we set up...the plan seemed to be squeeze the pitch with a high line with the cb's being able to pass and retain possession shielded by a double pivot of powerful players....that then relies on our full backs to provide width and our forward line the creativity...I wouldn't tear it all up at the moment....lallana, eriksen and Lamela playing off Lakaku/Ade should be able to create...supported by two from Dembele, Capoue, Sandro and Pauli..the width would need to be provided from fb....right side we have two options...left side...is a problem...
shedboy2
shedboy2 - seems like you've a good thought to this... all I can manage is 'please appoint someone new'... just waiting for the surprises at 8 tomorrow...

Rahn: thought Lewis did quite well as a #10 yesterday...

We should kick all religion out of life, never mind football. how many religions are there, and they all think theirs is right over all others. Can anybody name any equal to religion for being the catylist for confrontations and wars. Let Glen Hoddle believe what the bloody hell he wants, lets get on with the more important matter, football.
Frank
Frank as Shankly said.....

Fine, if Hoddle can think what he wants. It's on a par with racism, is all.
jerkinmahjurgen
rahn and Shedboy...Yes, I had not forgotten Holtby. Self praise is not not praise at all, but, I did say prior to Lewis' admission that I saw him as a deep lying ball player. In fact I spent numerous weeks calling for him to be played there on the pre match articles. As long as we had a powerhouse of a Dm alongside, I think he could work very well.

I am however still of the opinion that Capoue is the one, add to this his size and strength, I think it would serve us very well. He too is a great passer of the ball. Just hope to see him get a run in his preferred position. The awesome partnership would be him and Sandro. These two really would cover all the bases as to whats required from a CM.
Cider spurs
Cider Spurs - Agree with you on Capoue. When he first played before his injury he was really good. And as you say his range of passing is also a quality attribute. It does make me wonder why Bentaleb was picked instead of him, Capoue is a much better player.
rahn DMC
Highate - Yeah he did, he can play that position as well, I just think playing him as DLP behind Eriksen (Much like Modric/VDV) would get the best out of both of them. If you had those two linking up play in the middle then I think service for the striker/forwards etc would increase, which in theory means more goals...
rahn DMC
rahn - the more i see of him the better I think he'll serve the club...
