Stoke City Vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Charlie†Adams! No†handshakes for the Stoke number 16 after that†Paulinho†tackle at WHL and,†Sandro†is in the squad!

Stoke are looking to reach†50 points for the first time in their†Premier League†history.†Stoke†have only lost once in their last eight games and haven't lost a home game since January. As†for Spurs,†after†the Liverpool†result,†it`s been 2 wins and a comeback draw†for us,†impressive form Tim!

2 Meter Peter is†Stoke`s†highest†scrorer, a whole†eight league goals†so far,†awesome!†Stoke†only†need eight goals in their next three games to beat their†goalscoring†record in a Premier League season. Can†this article get anymore anal I†hear you ask? Yes it can!†Peter†Odemwingie†says Stoke are on a mission to end their season†on a high.†

They want to set a Britannia Stadium record and Mark Hughes' is looking to claim their highest Premier League points total, best top flight finish in 39 years and first top†Midlands†club title. And they could also set a new mark for fewest home defeats in a league campaign since moving to their new headquarters back in 1997.†Stoke have only lost twice at home so far,†they are chasing their best run since Lou†Macari's†Division Two title-winning side only suffered two home defeats in 1992/93.......and what do all these facts add up to .....10th†place!

Meanwhile†we†are looking to add†to†our†three†match†unbeaten run and†we†still have a very slim chance of qualifying for the†Europa,†oh yes, let`s hear it for Sunday afternoon football.

Unfortunately,†we†haven't won away from home since January.†However, we have scored†11 in our†last†3†unbeaten†streak†although we†have conceded five goals as well.

Stoke defender Erik†Pieters†should be fit to†face Tottenham after a†Dehli†belly†against Cardiff.
But Matthew†Etherington†and Robert†Huth†remain absent for the Potters.†Dawson returns for Tottenham after a hamstring but Jan†Vertonghen†will not make it.†Mousa†Dembele†is doubtful with an ankle injury, while†yes, you guessed it....Etienne†Capoue, Kyle Walker and†Erik†Lamela†all remain unavailable for selection.†Harry Kane, could start his fourth Premier League game this weekend,†and†has scored in the last three games, the first player to do so this season for Spurs.
We have†won 41 of the†last†77 league meetings between†us and†Stoke. The†Potters have won†just 19,†and we have won†three times at the Britannia since Hughes' men gained promotion in 2008.†We are their bogey team

Zeki†Fryer`s "Stoke are always very good at home this will be a hard game for†us"†Zeki††Fryers has said that it will be 'difficult to win' when†we meet†Stoke City†at the Britannia Stadium this weekend.†The defender told the club's website: 'Obviously we conceded in the first half against Fulham in a disappointing manner but overall we were strong and stable as a team.†'Now we go to Stoke, who are a good side. They're a strong team and I know from watching other clubs go there that it's difficult to win there.†'They make it hard for opposing teams so we've got a big challenge at the weekend and we're looking forward to it.'††And so are we†Zeki, we can`t wait!

Tell you what†Zeki†let`s start them off with a 2 goal lead and then let`s play catch up!

Of Course giving away a lead won`t happen next season,†not when†David†Moyes†is†in charge, he will make sure we morph into mid table mediocrity achieving what Stoke and Evertonachieve!†which†is? ......Nothing! †However, welcome back Steven†Pienaar†and hello†Fellaini.††

Most punters†think†Stoke†will be a bit too strong for a†Tottenham†team that knows their manager won't be there next season. Actually they will be stronger than us because we know†Moyes†will be our manager next season!

1st up I don't like Stoke. They don't play football. They're a team of thugs, which brings me to the site poll. Very nice. I vote for options 3 & 4
Cape Town Spurs
My 2nd point is I absolutely agree Oy Veh, we do not want a manager in the mold of David Moyes. Levy is simply eying a cheap deal with compensation paid out by Man U rather than him having to pay compensation twice. Once to our current loud mouth and again to whoever's team that comes in
Cape Town Spurs
and finally, or thirdly if you like, (for now anyway, until someone else comes on with an opinion and something to comment on), dropped points in games we should have won have well and truly cost us this season. I know that seems like an obvious thing to say and it is, but it's not the hammerings by 'Pool & City, it's not pitching up at Norwich (3 points), only playing 1 half vs Brom, (2 points dropped), those two alone would have put us in the hunt. Add the 1-0 loss to Woolwich, a game we really should have won or at least drawn and we're equal on points with Moyes ex mob and 1 behind the Arse.
Cape Town Spurs
COYS & let's hope chopper Adam doesn't end someone's career today, or at least if he does it's his own. He should be banned for life.
Cape Town Spurs
My word any more positivity and you'll have to embark on a motivational speaking career. So glad I read this before heading off to the game. Although Moyes fits the Levy mould I just can't see that one happening, surely lightening can't strike twice. Ah well whatever the club will always be the club. In my time I have endured Gross and Graham so it could be worse. COYMS
Clivetheyid
You have got to think moyes is in the running. For someone so well thought of within the game to be handpicked for the united job just 10 months ago is obviously not suddenly a bad manager - but I see the knives are out for him already! And we wonder why we are not successful! Obviously some sadistic quality about being spurs fans that wants us to fail. Having said that I personally think the game has moved on from the 'moyes type' of philosophy and we need someone who can embrace the new world whilst still instilling the necessary determination and will to succeed, much like martinez (my personal favourite since harry left but we have no chance of getting him now) and rogers this season. If we do end up with moyes at least he will instil some togetherness, teamwork and grit. All things worth getting behind as fans and if we were to keep our awesome squad together who knows how far that could take us.

Spurs 5 Stoke 0. Adams bottles it down the dugout with the beast in tow, the ref is laughing and Dublin and Man On! are playing conkers on the halfway line. Cider providing the drinks, Geof on the barbe, Coopsieyid chasing Crouch and Highgatespur on the tanoy telling Pele10 he loves his posts! COYS!

Come on you SPURS and Win Win Win !
Madaboutspurs
I do not consider sherwood even worthy of mention. Being kind to him he needs to cut his managerial teeth down a league or two and prove himself before even being considered for a PL job. A ridiculous panic appointment. There was no plan.
StillRickyVilla
Was that a dream James, have you just woken up??? Was the crowd there? That's hilarious mate, had me cracking up.
Dublin Hotspur
Time to see Robbie back. Next to Kane. Ade is starting one of his stages , and doubt he'll be here next season, so get the 2 we will have playing together with eriksen and see what happens
Dublin Hotspur
No chance Sherwood will drop his "success" story.
Clivetheyid
there is recent bad history between the teams and little or nothing for either side to play for, we could end up with 10 men on the pitch and a loss here, equally we should be able to beat Stoke, they have been good at home of late and I can see trouble brewing here. SRV he has cut his teeth with us, its happened and there's nothing any one on here can do about that, most of the damage for this season was done before him and not by him, most notably with the august window farce. i am not getting so abusively wound up by it/him as so many on here are (not saying you are being abusive) because we are 6th now and were 7th when he took over, out of all the cups now just like we are every season too, that wasn't invented by Sherwood either. Lets hope we can find a way to play well and or win today.

Just need diddy kong back now!
by the way the game is on setanta today, so Irish pubs should be showing it in England.
Dublin Hotspur
Why does every post have to turn into a Sherwood debate? There's a game today guys...
Clivetheyid
Really hoping to see Sandro in at least the 18 today, he has his faults but such an asset to the club and certainly one we should be aiming to keep.
Clivetheyid
Clive, you may have just started your own Sherwood debate with saying he won't drop ade, lol. I agree. I'm spent on the subject, for now, just looking for his PConf to analyse, break down and scrutinise! Lol
Dublin Hotspur
I was talking to myself as much as anyone Dublin - I feel the same totally spent on the subject. Just looking for 9 points then we can get back to the summer of drama that THFC brings. Irrespective of the situation every summer is a bloody drama any way so why expect anything less!
Clivetheyid
Well no match report from me today guys n gals. Missus is off work for the weekend. She mentioned garden centre, I kind of half listened and thought pub. Beer garden it is then. That said, reading this pre match article, it appears I just as well miss the game. Come on OyVeh, where's the positivity?.
Cider spurs
Love to see vlad back in today with rose replaced by zeki! Daws prob needed as we will need some aerial defence. Is verts fit? Can vlad play RB?
Dublin Hotspur
Anyone else going today?

Sandro and holtby... I mean Pauli cm. Lennon, eriksen and Kane behind Robbie.
Dublin Hotspur
0-0 Halftime. Spurs win 2-0.
Cider spurs
PJ, sherwood is clearly so far out of his depth on almost every level. Not his fault - this is all on levy. You are right it happened and hopefully we can move on from this waste of a season in a couple of weeks. Whether that be with moyes or whoever. Re. Sherwoods stats over such a short time frame you can slice and dice them anyway you want. After the intitial 6 game "new manager bounce" (a time in which by his own admission tim hadnt had the time to work with the players due to xmas, cup fixture etc) the last 13 PL games read won 6, drawn 2 lost 5. Which I suggest given the chaotic nature of the way we are under his 'leadership' would be about right if extrapolated over 2 or 3 seasons. One thing we do have now is the players. We just need a manager.
StillRickyVilla
I think Huth will be a big loss for Stoke.
Cider spurs
lol Block D. Let's just say I have been left underwhelmed by our end our season performances...again. I have been here daily reading posts from TK, World Peace etc (I know they have new names now, lol). However, I have nothing positive to say. All a bit shambolic, imo.
Madaboutspurs
I wish Clive. I was at ghe home game though. Gonna try to persuade her indoors to let me go to the king match! That might just appease me for having to miss Turin!
Dublin Hotspur
StillRicky...Spot on mate. The board need to rein in their expectations a little, maybe a little more realism. We need to afford a manager time, as long as we do not flirt with relegation, let's actually give the manager the full control of football and see what he can deliver over a sensible amount of time. Good chance we may take one step back, but every chance we will leap two steps forward after. Time ladies and gentlemen time.

That's the thing, because of previous cock ups and missed opportunities when the chance has presented itself to pounce, the board and some fans expectations have increased borne out of frustration. All IMO of course.
Cider spurs
Cider, I'm gonna back a score draw, and hope I lose my money!
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin the King game should be great, has anyone heard anything about who's likely to show up? I've seen nothing so far...
Clivetheyid
Cider - have expectations raised that high? I don't think anyone expects anything more than a good crack at finishing 4th as per our form over the past 5 years. I don't hear "We should be winning the league" from anyone at WHL. I don't agree with giving someone the brief it's ok as long as we are not flirting with relegation which is how your post reads...
Clivetheyid
Gondola, Anderton, sherringham I've heard confirmed so far! It's gonna be a great stress reliever! Bit of a party at the lane!
Dublin Hotspur
Timmy at it again - "best manager spurs have ever had". Jesus someone gag him. Onto today, tough game and I can see us struggling - we must stick a DM in there I reckon. If not, wouldn't it be great to see Eriksen central? Just once??
mattspurs1982
Dublin - the toast of the 90's!
Clivetheyid
Dublin you've not played conkers? COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
It's one game closer to the end of "The Dim One" ! I'm actually excited for once in the know that Stoke are exactly the team our players want to beat. We know they play shoddy football however credit to MH who has given the whole club a new outlook of some form of pass move and then hoof it to Crouchinio. I think the fire will be in the bellies of our players first off to break that little cunit Adam and secondly there seems to be a stir about a new manager, thirdly WC places up for grabs! One thing is certain we a supremely fortunate to have Erikson playing and the only player worth mentioning regarding the team sheeeet!
Mix26
matt bless him he really is so proud of his imaginary record... He loves to pick and choose the rare bright points about his brush with stardom. I really enjoyed his point regarding the fans wanting signings and not asking players for loyalty and dedication to the club. Yes Dim we wanted to sell Modric, Bale and Berba! Oh and Dim if u didn't notice we regard Sandro as a legend in the making so based on your words can you please play him you fecking retard!
Mix26
Clive...Then my post reads wrong. My point being, let's take AVB as an example. He was not flirting with relegation, however, some branded the football as boring and clueless. Given time, a proper amount of time, who's to say that the style would not have improved and maybe the end of season points tally?.

That is my point in case, do we really give managers long enough to be given a clear enough indication on where they could really take the club?.Whilst not flirting with relegation, what is wrong with actually giving a manager a more realistic time span to see where it leads us.

If I am not mistaken, Redknapp was one of the longer serving managers in recent times, 4th spot if I recall. AVB, 4th spot, less time, could he have kicked the team on given more?. Who knows, and that is exactly my point. Rome wasn't built in a day as the saying goes, Spurs board believe it should be built by lunchtime.

This is not a AVB vs Sherwood argument either, but merely a suggestion that we have gone down the revolving door manager appointment scenario for a number of years now, it has brought some success, but never stability and success, maybe we look at sticking with a manager for the duration of his contract as a bare minimum and see where that takes us as long as relegation is not flirted with.

As for "have expectations reached that high?." Yes, many expect 4th after finishing 5th the previous season, anything less is considered by some as no improvement, it's been said numerous times on this very site. Maybe a step back to actually build something under continued stability from the same manager will allow for us to constantly be in the top 4 as opposed to just having a good crack at it.
Cider spurs
SRV, we were 7th when he took over 6th now, kind of level i think. this sherwood ranting is pointless waste of time and deeply insulting, I wont get involved, the season was over in the summer window quite obviously.
PJcoys1882
Madabout, good to see you posting on here. I know that there has been a lot of negativity on here, and we have wasted another season for wining silverware. We just have to accept Levy's and ENIC handling of THFC. Until the new stadium is built, we can expect more of the same, as over the last 5 years.. So all critical rants by Pele10 and others will not affect Joe Lewis & Levy's bluprint for their business. (THFC) I think they will sell in 2018.
Block D Spurs
Cider - I'm all for stability with the right candidate. Had Redknapp conducted himself better he would still be in charge today rather than struggling to get QPR promoted. However I don't understand the step back to step forward theory, sorry have to agree to disagree. COYMS!
Clivetheyid
Of course I've played conkers James! But not on the halfway line at the Britannia!
Dublin Hotspur
We can still get fourth, can't we? Until the weekend is over anyway! :-)
Geofspurs
3-0 Spurs! Townsend hat-trick ... ?!
Geofspurs
Clive...it's not a theory that I would want, more a thought that if we are to appoint a new manager and give him every chance by standing by him in the long term, would it be impossible to consider that our form may dip somewhat as he works at his philosophy and makes himself familiar with the English game.

It is at this point if it comes to fruition that I say we stick with the programme as long as we are not in danger of relegation. Whilst this dip has not happened of late with manager change, length of time has also not really been afforded to see if we can truly improve current performance and league standing.

Constant manager change sees team unbalance, some fancied, some not, formations and style ever changing. If we appoint a new manager, even if the form dips at the start, I suggest time as opposed to change will serve us better in the long term. All IMO of course, but it did seem to work at Arsenal and Utd. Fergie one goal away from the sack, the rest is history. Think longevity of service will serve us better.

Excellent, excellent post Cider. We can blame Sherwood as much as we want, he's not the problem, the problem is the one that put him there. Another season wasted by the compulsive knee jerking clown, he needs to spend big now on a coach, he has run out of lives and those empty blue seats don't bode well for filling that 60,000 seat stadium.
ItalianYiddo
I've heard talk recently that the stadium is always as full as it could be and also that spurs aren't attracting many youngsters - surely a worrying sign for the board if they're planning (feasibly discussing) this 56k ground. Today I would "like" to see Lloris, Rose, Kaboom, Chiriches, Naughton, Chadli, Sandro, Eriksen, Dembele / Pauline, Lennon, Ade. Our full back options are incredibly limited today, and the available choices are lower prem standard at best. Hoping we get an inspired Ade today, he can make the difference. Eriksen stop playing so bloody well, can see the £££££ in Levy's eyes!!
mattspurs1982
*stadium ISNT as full as it could be - oops sorry
mattspurs1982
Highgate, nice to see you praising Tim lol
Thats Entertainment
PJ, we are now 6th we were 7th, correct, but we were in 4 competitions. Tim promptly got us knocked out of all the cups. So if you want to stick with facts that's how it is, what happened in previous years irrelevant.
ItalianYiddo
Italian as a club we have improved in every way under the tenure of ENIC /LEVY, we have improved league position against the period before ENIC arrived, we have a better squad, better team, better results in general, we turn over more money, we make more profit, our value as a club is higher, our training facilities are much better, the only thing not to improve is the number of seats in our stadium. We could cite the recruitment of management as an area Levy could improve for the good of the club. We all want more, I do, but want to remain balanced and not fuelled on emotion which just leads to these constant witch hunts on here. Has ENIC taken us as far as it can? well quite possibly yes because the football landscape has changed since it took us over. Balance.
PJcoys1882
PJ...Yes!. I agree Enic as a whole have improved the club. I also believe that apart from ploughing vast sums of new money into the club, they have most probably levelled out with regards to where they can take us. The one last thing I would like Enic and Co to do, is to give us a decent manager who is afforded time and see where that takes us. It might just bridge that last little step to allow us to secure top 4 on a more regular basis. It might not, but it has not really been tried under their leadership.
Cider spurs
Agree totally Cider.
PJcoys1882
I spoke too soon.
Geofspurs
Cider .... I was of the same opinion re AVB and the rest of the season at least. We don't really know what actually happened for him to have to leave. Just asking but would you like TS to be given 2 or 3 seasons at the club in charge of the first team squad? You'll get no argument from me either way, I've already said my piece on him. Giving any manager time to achieve his goal seems to be very anti Spurs fans and ownership. This board is possibly the best Vital board for comment and I would hazard a guess the worst for berating manager/player/owner or other fans on it. Can't keep everybody happy all the time or on here can't keep the majority happy any of the time. lol. All in my humble opinion of course. COYS
longtimespur
PJ its all relative. When ENIC took over ok we had had a number of managerial catastrophes which had left our on field product and hence league position pretty poor. But off the field compared to our rivals we were in there in the mix. Similar revenues and size of stadium as Arsenal. Chelsea in massive debt. We were 2nd only to man utd in terms of operating profit from the PL inception to when ENIC tookover. Fast forward 14 years and our rivals are on a different planet to us financially whether it be through foreign ownership, astute managerial appointments or new stadiums. We are now far far behind. To the extent even West Ham are now coming up fast on the rails once the OS is up and running. Yes, ENIC have rode the PL gravy train and built a bigger and better club on an off the pitch. But relative to who we should be considering our rivals we have lost out big time. And thats not even mentioning the titles, trophies won and CL experiences of our rivals in ENICs time compared to our solitary league cup and CL run.
StillRickyVilla
longtime...I'll twist your question somewhat if I may. If Sherwood led this team to 3rd this season with a record points haul, but still made silly comments. Would as many still be looking for him to be sacked, or would they accept that is who he is whether right or wrong, but he took us where we wanted to be?.

In answer to your question, I have a few concerns relating to Sherwood's formation and team selection at times, however, many fans can say the same of their own team at times. What worries me is his lack of professionalism regarding his comments. Some are not needed, some may well have a detrimental effect on the team or player. If I were to base it on football alone, I'd give him a chance as much as the next unproven, would he be my 1st choice?. No.
Cider spurs
Oh and longtime. Nice to hear from you, I know you still post, but i seem to miss you. Hope you are doing well.
Cider spurs
The fact now we dont even consider the likes of chelsea and arsenal as "rivals" in a financial sense anymore shows how far we have regressed compared to them in the last 14 years. That simply wasnt the case in the late 90s. We had more money than them! If West ham over take us in the next 3 or 4 years it may well be ENICs parting gift - to leave us as the 4th team in london. Thank god redknapp is mis-managing QPRs money it could be worse!
StillRickyVilla
Excatly SRV, the footballing landscape has changed so much in the 14 years. Its easy to find an angle to be negative, it's also sad if it dictates.
PJcoys1882
I'm depressed. I've got to watch Spurs play again. Please, someone tell me I don't have to.
MAN ON!
@cider spurs.....i made a very similar post a few seasons ago about taking 1 step back and 2 steps forward,so i totally agree with you on this......the trouble is that most fans don't see it like this.i do feel that this was our 1-step-back season with AVB in relation to our 'long term project'....young manager, with a bit of longevity in him.new players to bed in,getting rid of all/most of players who were on their last legs or not good enough....i really do feel that this was the season for this to happen but it takes backing/support from the powers that be and the fans.

liverpool have taken a few seasons to get where they are now,man u are going through the same 1-step-back period(not sure if the fans or the board will have the patience for it).....we,(the fans, the board and the owners/shareholder/directors),have to be realistic and not EXPECT top 4 regardless of the circumstances......this should give us a platform to build on for the future.(hope springs eternal). finally got my username back!!!
g. roberts testes
MAN ON ... You have to ... so that you can be more depressed!
Geofspurs
PJ, ENIC have had control over that landscape! ENIC have not increased our capacity once in 14 years - Arsenal HAVE achieved that. ENIC have been pretty average at best in their managerial appointments - Arsenal got their man and stuck with him. ENIC have been unwilling to invest their own money or source new owners with the means to get us in the mix - Chelsea and now City have done that and left us trailing. And now Levys botched attempt at the OS has left West Ham with a clear run to over take us in the next 3-5 years. All things that ENIC have had control over. They have ridden the explosion in worldwide popularity and commercial revenue of the PL ill give them that. Of course we have more revenue and have better players than 14 years ago but so does everyone else! Not a great achievement in itself.
StillRickyVilla
This site would be awesome if we all changed our user names to 'TSspurs'. :-)
Geofspurs
SRV, ENIC has not control over the football lanscape, of course it doesnt, nor does any one club or owner, you know that. Not sure where you are going with this now. Leave it to you.

Cider... I'm fine thanks, just don't post as often nowadays as firstly there's not much I care to add to others comments or secondly even thinking I can do anything to change things at WHL. It's not a democracy. ENIC/Levy rule and what they says goes!! It's their money so it's their choice. Regarding your option, I think TS has a very limited chance of finishing 3rd until he can learn some basic tactics and use DM in games against the better teams. I do dislike his verbal diarrhea extremely. What's his latest? "Best ever Spurs manager in the premier league era!" I wish he had the same ethos regarding our once great club. And praise it and the squad in public instead of his constant berating of players to the media. After all, as the saying goes, "There is no I in TEAM!" He never seems to get the team to play until after half-time and his HT talk. Why can't he give them that same adrenaline rush that appears in the second half. I know it wasn't any different under AVB (45 out of 90) but the team looked like a team far more often than not. Oh dear here I go again. Sorry this is me "not posting" lol
longtimespur
G.roberts absolutely re.AVB. After the upheaval of bale leaving (and modric, king, vdv) and bringing in the magnificent 7, it was ALWAYS going to take a season or two for AVBs long-term vision to take shape. We will never know now thanks to levy. We are now in a complete state of flux AGAIN. Groundhog day at the lane.
StillRickyVilla
I feel better now. Coffee and a bacon and egg sandwich seems to have done the trick. Now I can focus and make my prediction.... We win!
MAN ON!
I agree that ENIC have done a decent job but no more. We have stability, we have sound economics, but have they maximised our potential? A massive no, with some strategic investment we could be challenging for the title, I am not talking about Leeds style investment but about the 100M or so, hardly going to bankrupt Joe Lewis, that would help build the side around the likes of Modric and Bale. Yes they wanted to go, but why did they want to go and do we blame them we are a stepping stone, no more.
ItalianYiddo
Cider... sorry I forgot in my haste to write my answer. Hope you're well too. Seriously though I'll just be glad for the end of this frustrating season and to watching the world cup. No favourite team apart from patriotic option (England) and I expect them to do worse than THFC. lol COYS

Dublin Hotspur
PJ the point being it is ENICs JOB to have built the new stadium (something they promised 14 years ago). It is ENICs JOB to hire the correct football people and then stick with them without interference and not kneejerk. And it is ENICs JOB to invest their money (it is their club after all - so far they have just ridden off the increased revenue of the PL and player values) or if they are not willing to source owners that ARE willing to. And finally Levy had complete control over the OS bid but botched it up losing to a couple of porn barons and a club 80 million in debt! All areas ENIC have failed in and reasons why we are so far behind our rivals now compared to when they took over.

You choose Soldado Dublin. Is he fit again?

Hope Sandro can cheer us all up, Bale, Pauli etc.

Nothing rigid in the front 4, except Robbie being in the box as much as poss!
Dublin Hotspur
i have to give this a quick mention as i'm a bit perplexed...and i'm not tim bashing as i think that he's done a decent job....considering the whys-and-wherefores.

In the past,if sandro was fit he played,we never knew how hard he did or didn't train....he was fit enough to play so that was that....now we hear 'he didn't train hard enough,so F*(} him...he won't play'.

I'd have thought playing stoke away would be where sandro came in...but what do i know. COYS!!!
g. roberts testes
Man on, Yep. and raring to go. Ade I feel is starting to have one of his "moments"
Dublin Hotspur
SRV, i know all that stuff, but seriously i am not interested enough to soend any more time on this with you. I cant change it and why would i change something heading in a better direction than it was before. I am sure we both want more and both want the same thing, but that's it for me on this subject for at least a month or so. What about the game today, how do you think it will go?
PJcoys1882
Ade is going to make us all happy tonight lads!
Geofspurs
Dublin "Daws" ? No no no please god no! I think Townsend should get a game at LW. Erik behind Bobby. We need to stretch Stoke not ping balls into Kane and Ade.
Mix26
Harry Kane has 3 in 3 so statistically the best striker we've ever had at the club. I'm sure Tim (the best manager ever) agrees with that stat.
Kong
Dublin I think you are right regarding Ade, doesn't seem to be giving his all at the moment. Don't think he will be with us next season.
Thats Entertainment
g. roberts testes. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see Sandro in the team.... I think there could be a chance of a sending off today and I don't think it'll be Adam. It may well be the Beast. I hope the players aren't out to nail him as much as some of our supporters are.
MAN ON!
Mix, I agree, but Verts is injured. Maybe Kaboul? but we do need someone good in the air in defence up against the giant, and Daws is prob our best in the air.
Dublin Hotspur
Italian what strategic investments would you have made to win us the title? Dublin I am glad you are playing for 7th now. G R Testes, actually that's not true about in the past if fit Sandro played, he was on the bench a number of times when fit before Sherwood came along.
PJcoys1882
1882, it is you!!!! I demand 6th!
Dublin Hotspur
PJ, anyones guess. We have by far the better individual quality but I would imagine stoke will be more organised and set-up better and be better prepared. 2-2??
StillRickyVilla
I think Ade is knackered more than anything. I have a feeling he'll play though, but I wouldn't mind to see Roberto and Harry should also play.
MAN ON!
@italianyiddo......at the time wasn't levy echoing AVB and supporting his long term vision....?some disgruntled fans and a few bad results changed all that pretty damn quick.

thanks cider...not too sure if my username changes are as bad as our manager changes....i've only changed it once in 4 seasons....haa-haa!
g. roberts testes
Ade is very good in the air Dublin, very useful for defending corners, is he injured? Kong the fact that Kane has played and scored is nothing to do with Sherwood, everybody knows Keith Burkenshaw should take that credit
PJcoys1882
SRV, Thats what I backed!

Mix, I also want to see Kane and Robbie play together, whether thats a shifting one up front or solid 2. I think they could build a partnership. Hopefully replace Ade with a bulky type like Lukaku or Ba in the summer.
Dublin Hotspur
1882, lets have a look at your team selections. but would you be picking for a win (6th) or lose (7th)
Dublin Hotspur
PJcoys1882.....point taken but at least he would make the bench.

Why should we sell Ade?

Yes of course I want us to win, but stoke are ugly at home, in fact they are ugly away and this will be very physical game, not a el clasico, more like a game from hell, stoke have been getting some good results and my gut feeling is they will win this, hope I'm wrong. On a more positive note reference german connections, from a very good source, we are in the market for the german striker Heinz Rheumatism.
spu 4 life
Dublin ... I believe you when you say you havenít made a prediction for months ... 6 of your team are out on loan and the other five were sold weeks ago!! :-)
Geofspurs
Dublin Hotspur. Forgot about that. Maybe a decent deal can be negotiated for him. I'd like him to stay.
MAN ON!
If Ade is for sale, we should buy him.
Geofspurs
PJ, that could be true, Sherwood cannot take credit for things, only be blamed.
Kong
g. roberts, perennial knee jerking is a major problem, I think most fans could have been sold the long term project if they could see progress. I'm sure a few Liverpool weren't happy at finishing 7th last season but most stood by Rodgers.
ItalianYiddo
It is likely to be ade and Kane upfront today, it has worked in previous games so let's see how it goes today. Will be a physical match but we can match them, will be interesting to see the cm pairing today.
Kong
agree on adebayor, although he is still working his socks off i would go for soldado/kane up front

MAN ON!
Itís going to get physical so we need a strong ball winner in midfield, Sandro?! As long as he is fit and does not get yellow carded in the first half.
Geofspurs
I know that Kane has scored 3/3 which is great, but watching him closely last week he was extremely lazy. Soldado gives us that work ethic up top which may be important against Stoke IMO.
Windlespur
If Sherwood picks his teams on merit (like he keeps telling everyone he does) it'll be interesting to see if Adebayor gets a start today. He's not exactly been setting things alight the last few games so maybe someone else should get a go - on merit of course. If Harry Kane is dropped before Adebayor then what does that say? We'll probably play both up top and go light in midfield again today. Not the best idea away to Stoke in my humble opinion but we will see shortly.
SpuriousLife
Why not; We could lose all three and they are as good as us, so they should be able to lose all three as well. Yes, I am sober; I never make sense when I'm in that condition!!
Geofspurs
PJ, investing in a striker in January two seasons running that would have helped us get fourth, instead of the likes of Saha. Where is the ambition in that? Making Bale a fantastic offer and give the players that AVB wanted even if you have to pay a bit over the odds are a couple of examples. Do you think Pool would be challenging if Suarez had gone? Would Levy pay Suarez as much as Liverpool are? No ambition, no real intent to take the club to the next level, just waiting for someone to make a good offer and they will be out of it.
ItalianYiddo
Like your team Dublin - but I would have Kaboom in there if fit & against Stoke have a more defensive left midfielder in the side (maybe a Siggy or Chadli on the left to protect Rose). Come to think of it, I would play Fryers left back & not Rose. Lloris, Naughton, Kaboul, Dawson, Fryers, Chadli, Pauli, Sandro, Townsend, Eriksen, Ade (or Soldado).
Windlespur
Much as I love Sandro as a player he hasn't looked at his best this season and often get's left standing, only to then desperately drag a player back or dive in and inevitably get booked.... Stoke are a team to encourage a bit of foul play and we'll have to be on our toes....
MAN ON!
Just to wind us all up, Nabil will probably be back......
MAN ON!
Dublin i dont know who is fit but would play Ade against the most physical team in the league, i am not really sure if i want 6th or 7th i want us to win every game though

Italian, Bale would not have stayed if you doubled his money, he wanted to play for Madrid and who could blame him. We paid 26 million on a striker, how has that gone? there is not gtee if we bought a striker in January he would have provided a better return than the one we paid 26 million for in August. I don't buy your strategic decisions in the context of them getting us the prem title as you seem to indicate is a simple task, what you have said so far would no gtee us better than when we are now because simply because what you state would never have happened. As far as Liverpool is concerned, the two biggest factors in its success this season over last is a good manager buying the right players and doing well (clearly better than the two managers we have had this season) as a manager and not playing in Europe as everyone seems to agree has helped them significantly, appears many on here don't want to agree with that being a factor for some reason, which is beyond me.
PJcoys1882
Good open game by Southampton and Everton. Everton conceded an own goal in the first minute ... sound familiar?! Iím sure that Shaw could shore up our defence.

Dublin it is a difficult one, the idea of 4 competitions, a chance to win in europe and squad rota are strong. But squad rotation was one of our biggest downfall, there was no consistency and every game players were lining up next to someone else, how are they supposed to build partnerships i.e. holtby set defoe up in europe all the time, when holtby played in the league defoe didnt and vice versa,, how is holtby supposed to know where soldado runs when he's looking for defoe...

If we went all out for it I'd be up for supporting the competition, we should at least get to the semi's if we really tried. That might mean buying europa league players i.e. like when you try and win the championship/get promotion you buy championship players not prem ones.
T.H.F.Chris
Our team today: Lloris; Naughton, Dawson, Kaboul, Rose; Lennon, Chadli, Paulinho, Eriksen; Adebayor, Kane.
Kong
THF, I agree totally and yes next year there is much more reason to be in it than this. I think the issue is whether you want to be in or nor matter not in the debate about if playing in europe helps or hinders league results, so much evidence to make this one obvious.

The man had no redeeming features. There are calls in this & past threadd for people to "support".

My personal opinion is that anyone who fell and continues to fall in love with the traditions our club sets out to hold up could not possibly see anything positive about Sherwood.

He is the antithesis of us.

He's horrible. He's pathetic. And he is damaging the very fabric of which our club is built.

Sherwood surely is the biggest tool ever to manage this club, he just talks out of the wrong end of his body. he has managed us for 5 minutes, his team has been systematically destroyed in every game against the top clubs, he appears to be totally tactically inept, he has no plan A,B,C, his selections, and set ups defy logic, he publicly vilifies his players, has managed to ostracise several international players, and he has the audacity to say "He is the most successful manager at Spurs", that shows a total lack of respect for many of his predecessors like Nicholson, Birkenshaw, and even Ramos, Graham who won a trophy, and Redknapp who took us into the champions league. This win % business is total bollox, if you manage for 1 game and win it, you are at 100%, and would be the most successful Spurs manager ever. On the other hand Nicholson's percentage stretched over 800+ games and include an FA Cup/league double, another FA Cup, the first English winners of a European trophy, and a European Cup semi-final, losing to Benfica. The sooner Levy sees sense and gets rid of this clown the better and it will allow us to repair the damage he has done to the club's credibility and integrity.

I see that bloke who many of us wanted in the summer instead of Soldado, one Wilfried Bony has scored yet again for Swansea. That's 23 or 24 for him in all comps in a poor, struggling Swansea side, what would he have done for us with decent service. The guy is a beast.

PJcoys1882
Finally, an intelligent managing move by Timmy is getting Rose off the pitch.

Now this is an example of sarcasm rather than irony. It's not irony because it was an intelligent move and thus is literally true, but it is sarcastic because the adverb "finally" indicates that no previous moves by Timmy were intelligent. I say this because I don't want someone to think that I intended this as an endorsement of Timmy's management. (The last sentence skirts the ironic, by the way.)

Well done lads and Sherwood, have not seen the match but am looking forward to it.

For me, today provided additional support for the "Timmy Out" movement. Stoke had much the better of the match after going down a man. Our players were directionless thereafter. That's got to be down to the manager.
Falstaff the Fool
Looks like we lost 0-1 then...... We defended well and Dawson was our MOM..... I hate to let the VS team down, but permission to be positive please? LOL! Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
Only saw the second half. Disgraceful "performance" by the players, no effort, little movement off the ball and clueless when chances presented themselves. I wouldn't blame Tim for that. Having said that, Mark Hughes and Stoke are a bunch of thugs and so are many of their supporters by the look of it. What a disgrace to the Premier League.
Harry-Kari
Another dull, ground-out, workmanlike win. I'll happily take the points but our performances continue to be poor. Today we struggled to convincingly beat a 10 man Stoke. Not very inspiring really. Grateful for the points but god we are dull and turgid. This season is dragging on. Where has the spark and inspiration gone? We are starting yo take the form of our manager. A bit of perspiration but a distinct lack of inspiration or class. Hey-ho 3 more points anyway.
SpuriousLife
Hughes completely out-managed Tim in that 2nd half, the template subs TS makes in almost every game regardless of circumstances didn't work this time, despite the win. Not sure how Paulinho stayed on the pitch, we were playing with 10 men from the start...
Guyver
Kong: I'm not sure you would have written you comment if you had seen the match. Yes, we did take three point from Stoke on their pitch, but it was an ugly three points and Timmy's team appeared without a clue when Stoke went down a man. If one didn't take a count of players on the pitch, one would think it was Spurs who were down a man.
Falstaff the Fool
Everybody hates Spurs FA? Including the fans? God it's been miserable on here today.......

Happy Spud Day! :) Well done, Timmy and the boys on what turned out to be a gritty win for Spurs. At Stoke and with our often criticized choice of non-central midfielders... Have to give Sherwood another gold star this week. A thank you to Southampton, as well. It's still on...

Man on-you can tell theirs a lot of disapointment around, just take a look at the last couple of comments
ghulamville
My goodness! I've never seen a football team look more pedestrian than we did today. That was awful. That's what happens when a manager is all mouth and no tactics, never mind strategy.

Everyone one of our players was trying to take on, and dribble, the opponent, when a pass, not even an incisive one, would have sufficed.

That, from the best manager Spurs ever had.
roforofoSpurs
One hopes there are only two more matches with Timmy as manager. Thereafter: Sandro as player-manager. ha ha. ho ho, Timmy lad's got to go.

The caption at the end reads STOKE 0 TOTTENHAM 1; anyone at the game will be very relieved and the journey home will be a good one; like us all watching via the ''river channel'' :-) my god that was awful, we could not pass water at times, that's not Tim's fault, but please RB in midfield, Kaboul chasing off down the wing, we got into positions we should never be in, it looked more like a game of pin the tail on the donkey blindfolded, phuck me the sooner his gone the better, we are so disjointed, glad we have a week to get over it.

The second half was bad from us.. we should have been going at them. But we eased off, and let them back in... Lucky we won, and a very good effort header from Rose..

did i just watch stoke v spurs or 'the crazy gang' v spurs.....pure thuggery from stoke made for a very scrappy 2nd half.......timmy did well and made some very decent substitutions but it looked like we were scared of getting injured and rightly so....they kicked us all over the place.

their 11th/12 man did stoke proud...the crowd really got to us...if stoke had more quality up top we could have lost this one,as we weren't very good at all, can't blame tim for that.....oh well a win is still a win...COYS!

It's funny how everyone says it's gonna be a tough game and then when it is they complain about a well earned win. Not beautiful football by any means. They tried to kick us off the park and we got stuck in. Hence the win, albeit by only 1 goal. Still, 3 points and I'm happy. I might go out and find a TS lookalike to punch though.

I'm happier with the performances atm. Rose showed significant improvement in the last match and got the winner today. Could've been sent off but got lucky. Is playing better, though. Pauli was poor today but over-all we're playing a bit better. And plucking a win at Stoke is good for a Spurs-related managerial cv's. A clean sheet, with Lloris doing what he had to. Booted them about for a change. And won. A good, strong performance. coys. Timmy IN!

So, the Spurs Board has gone from a manager who'd roll down the window of his car to: "tut tut ... wages might be a problem" to a professorial project-oriented manager and back to a manager who'd send the lads out to enjoy themselves.

A rookie-manager who thinks three-quarters of the Spurs players are rubbish, and would do his utmost to burn the yard down before his departure

As much as I thought the Spurs Board faultless for not having a Plan B when AVB was fired, because I knew in my bones Levy meant AVB for the long-haul, if only Andre hadn't been so intransigent. As much as I thought him faultless, there must be something Jekyll and Hyde about our Board's character to keep going back and forth in their choice of manager.

Actually, if you look back at our choices of managers, starting with George Bung Graham, you couldn't say there was/is anything discernible in the style of manager we've gone for.

I sincerely hope they get it right this time ... that the Premiership is in such flux ... before a new order gets established for the next 10 or 20 years, again, without us.

Please, Daniel, seize the opportunity ... luck, they say, is preparation coinciding with opportunity. Well, a string of 5th place finishes, and probably including this season, is enough preparation by has. Now, we need to grab the opportunity in front of us. coys.

ZERO creativity, again... Meanwhile in West London this is what Fulham supporters are saying about the young German fella who many on here don't think is good enough (the first one is from the win against Villa)

Stay up or relegation!!! Just make sure we sign Lewis Holtby!!!

Basically!!, we can mould a team around this guy!!
Feel like he has a big connection with the club already!!, I don't care what happens between now and the start of next season....
Just make sure this boy is our centre pin!!

This is what a Fulham fan wrote on a blog:

"The 23-year-oldís work rate and tenacity is fantastic to see, but what really sets him apart from the pack is his creativity and instinctive quality that can turn a stagnant midfield battle into a possible attack with a single touch of the ball.

Unlike much of Fulhamís possession play this year, which has been sideways and back to the keeper at every moment of danger, Holtby adds a fluid, attacking dimension that encourages everyone to get the ball forward.

Pulling the strings and getting involved, Holtby is so unlike Bryan Ruiz and Dimitar Berbatov (the latter more so), who showed moments of class, as he is in no way arrogant.

Instead of throwing his arms around like a petulant and spoilt child, Holtby pulls his sleeves up and works hard for the team tracking back, going forward and rallying the fans."..................

I still can't believe we let him go out on loan. He is exactly what we have been missing and he and Eriksen could be working up a storm.

http://www.whoscored.com/Articles/houibfu55egr8lc0ueakzq/Show/Player-Focus-Lewis-Holtby-Crucial-in-Fulhams-Survival-Quest

Some impressive stats there. More tackles per game than Parker, more assists than anyone else at Fulham (despite his short time there. The goals scored & conceded per game when he is and isn't in the team shows what a huge influence in attack and defense he is having.

Can't wait until he is back next season, along with a manager who doesn't have 2 sphincters.

This game was never going to be about beautiful football, and it looked even worse after watching the way Southampton played. The defence did well. I donít know where the midfielders went! It was possibly the worst half of football all season in the second half. Hard to pick a MOTM as nobody really stood out. Lloris made a couple of excellent saves. Ade had a moment of brilliance for the assist. Rose scored with an unstoppable header (where did that come from?). Paulinho and Lennon were very poor. Paulinho is too slow and Lennon seems to have lost the ability to beat his man. Eriksen was off his game. Dawson did well for his first game back but, as I said before the game, this is his kind of match. Great move by TS to take off Rose. But, it was three ugly points at a place where many teams have faltered so, at the end of the day, job done! Not so long ago, these were the kind of games that we would never win. I canít find anything to blame TS for ... certainly not the consistent, woeful passing, and slow forward movement throughout the second half. There is no excuse for such woeful passing by any players in the EPL.

Bottom line ... we won a tough game and got 3 points. And we can still dream of top four (for a while)!

I don't remember my every having suggested that I would like such a result, that is, playing well and failing. Why are you suggested that I would like that? I'm happy we got three points, but not at all happy at the way we achieved that. But since you raise the question, let me respond:

There are four outcomes possible for the dimensions you mention. (a) we gain three points and play poorly; (b) we fail the gain the points and play poorly; (c) we gain the points and we play well; and (d) we fail to gain the points and we play well. Of the four possible outcomes, I prefer option (c)--a well played gain of three points. Option (b) obviously is the pits--no one wants to play poorly and lose. Options (a) and (d) are frustrating. Gaining points is better than not, so a match like today's is better than losing, but not one to feel very good about. And losing while playing well in some ways is the most frustrating--OK only when everyone expects a trouncing and we gain a moral victory, but moral victories only go so far.

Did I answer your odd question? I know you were trying to force me into some odd position, but why did you suggest that I'd have some odd preference that I've never suggested?

I prefer and win and I prefer that we play well. I'll accept a poorly played win rather than a poorly played loss, of course. And a loss when we play well is extremely frustrating--like getting the sexiest woman into bed and then failing to satisfy her. One is left with the satisfaction of having gotten her into the bed, but the let down is terrible. Why would you suggest that would be my preference?

Falstaff the Fool

The job of a manager is to prepare and to select the players so that those on the pitch are playing well. Of course, if one has players who haven't the ability to play well, then a manager cannot be blamed. But we have basically skilled players, so if the team as a whole isn't prepared to play well, a large part of the blame has to be with the manager. It could have been worse: we could have coughed up the three points, but my view is that we gained the three points in spite of a team that was not prepared to play well. Should we blame the stars? the Fates? It makes more sense to look at Timmy?

Falstaff the Fool
Iím not great at maths but I think that was our 20th win of the season with 2 games to go. It doesnít seem that bad in terms of percentages and outcomes. After all, we could be one of the 14 teams below us. I wonder how theyíre all feeling. And yes, we could be one of the 5 teams above us .... but we don't deserve to be. So if we are where we deserve to be, I'm happy enough, for now.

Then I had lunch with his ex-wife who regaled me with a story about how he couldn't consummate things on their wedding night. Different strokes, mate. But my point wasn't about your prowess, or mine, for that matter, but simply saying that without the win, playing well up to that point isn't worth all that much. You can win with an ugly woman (and Johnny Soul's famous song about how to be happy for the rest of your life claimed that this is the best possible outcome) or you can lose with a beautiful woman (even though having done everything else right up until the ultimate union). But the only truly satisfying thing to do is get it done to the end with a woman who really attracts you. Winny ugly isn't all that great, but it certainly beats beating one's self, if you catch my drift. Today we won ugly. Better than nothing, for sure, but not all that satisfying.

Pleased with the points, not so with the performance. Considering it's almost the end of the season, the players should be enjoying and expressing themselves. Instead, despite being 1-0 up against 10 men, we seemed somewhat scared to express. Now if it had been Liverpool v Stoke, I'd have been delighted with the result for every reason as they, under pressure, will be tense. We are more or less guaranteed a EL place, so why the turgid performance? Didn't see any instructions from the bench to try something different to rectify it. Perhaps it needed another goal from us to relax us?. Yes, stoke are not a team that you play fancy football against. Seems Hughes is still carrying on with the traditions bedded in by Poulis. Shame, as Palace are actually playing attractive footy! Should be a good game for them tomorrow. COYS!

Just back from a less than sunny place Stoke - but parking a lot easier than @ WHL! Broke a personal record today - was at the stadium by 1 o'clock - earliest test in my adult life - calmer than usual when arriving 1 minute before the game!!!

Anyway view from R9.... welcomed the jovial and exuberant Sandro (sandro sandro he's our THFC Brazillan yiddo...) great to see the smiley acknowledgement of us and thumbs up ... glad he's good enough again.

Team come out and greeted us but noticed a rather subdued Daws - not the usual fist pumping skipper...

Dreaded the first minute, the second one phew it never came....
nice to see that training sessions were finally working ... Carlos didn't venture into their half... Dawson and Kaboul strong enough to repel old Crouchie... Naughton looked solid enough ... even Chadders holding up well... Pauli and Azza not a good start... HK and AE seem to be getting along well in their first game together (joke!) were superbly non threatening... and then it happened - EA crossing for Carlos Rose to head a goal.... WOW looked like a great cross for an open goal header (will see on SS later)

Great stuff ... cue Danny-Danny Rose Danny Danny Rose... surely my name for him will come into play soon...
HT - BIG boos reserved for CA as they troop off for HT... Half time went
- sending off - didn't see what happened neither it seems did some of the Stoke City fans (found out after the game)... crowd mercilessly booing Carlos - take him off, I say, he'll blow it.... 10 mins later he does blow it but stays on and further 5 later gets taken taken off... we seem to lose the control of the game -

one did think why not bring in either Sandro or Nabil in the middle and put Siggy out wide to replace Azza ... not for me to question the best spurs boss in the EPL era...

Lloris was great again (my MoM); AT looked like a school boy lost totally in dread of himself.. got injured, passenger not a happy bunny at the end...
Noise was pretty deafening but very pleasing we held out....

great to see the versatility of the team... Kaboom as a winger... KN as a midfielder... EA continued midfield role...HK pretending to be JD... Rose as a goalscorer...eevn ErikSEN can have day off! but we won as I expected (phew!)

Most controlled first half for a while (almost like a performance at the start of season) - well done to all concerned - including the coaches for that 1st half display

Happy journey home and a quick one (under 3 hours...)

one worry remains ... the subdued Dawson - why? even his end of match gesticulations was missing - why ?

As promised I would keep a close eye on Mr Blud ... his rating? - 4.5/10 today I'm afraid....

Come on newcees, Hull, wbrom, man citeh and norwich - win for the Spurs!!!
The dream is still alive....
We WON - I'm a happy chappy!!!!! COYMS!!!

Quiet on 'ere, innit? Bad day for some of you guys, I guess. Another win for Tim and Danny Rose getting the winner. lol. You couldn't make it up... 4th beckons on.
jerkinmahjurgen
Highgate, sorry who is mr Blud? I'm probably missing something but it's one of those weeks;)

Coopsie thanks for the info and links as always. Always appreciate any itk info you can throw our way. Looking forward to nonsense threads at the end of the season to get me through the summer;)!!!! Hope you are well and on the way to a full recovery.

So the game. Well missed the first 10 mins as NBC were having issues with signal. When the game finally started showing it looked like we were moving the ball around relatively well but with no end result. Then the wayward passes started followed by just as wayward attempts at goal. Ade suddenly woke up, beat a man, got a good cross in and Rose scored a good header. Not sure why he was up there and surprised stokes defence didn't pick him up but will take the goal anyway.

after that we fell apart. Unable to pass, scrappy, little control and it got worse after we went down to 10 men!!!!!!!! Okay not us but it might as well have been the way we played. Even The commentators were in disbelief that we couldn't get hold of the ball, pass it or move it around quickly to break stoke down and tire them out. The only time we had a solid passing display was at the end when we took the short free kick and pass it around before yes you guessed we lost the ball!

we were lucky to finish with 11 men as Rose can't go around shoving players like that. I get he was on the receiving end of a lot of bad/late tackles but that's what stoke do and he needs to control it.

overall great result, awful performance.
Spurschick
Jerk, "I'm a happy chappy!!!!! COYMS!!!" _ yup I'm very sad.... support the club not the man ... think about whenever you decide the fence is poking you too much.... It is a win for Spurs!!!!

if man utd livepool chelsea ciy, win bad win ugly is a sign of a great team and great u can play bad and still win, how many times have we done opposite and didnt get the 3 points we deserve? if we play bad and win its called lucky. Happy Haters Day to all

Fencing is my number one sport.
jerkinmahjurgen
Spurschick - ever since I think 2008 , Aaron has been referred to as Azza Blud by a number of supporters, I don't know about on here but in real life as it were...
At the game I thought Rose was predictable with his reaction and was very lucky to stay on... Liked what TS said after the game about this.... we did win lucky - reminded me of the wins we got earlier in the season... BUT who's complaining ? A win is 3 points is closer to Europe !!!!
Highgatespur
Re all the comments about Sherwood. I see both sides of the lovers /haters. The lovers love him because on paper he's great with wonderful results. Haters can't stand him. There are also the realists that recognize some good results but that doesn't make him a good manager. Does he have the majority of fans on his side? Probably not. Does he have the players on his side?- evidentially no. Does he have the charisma and charm we want- don't think so. Is his tactical abilities evident? Not in my book. Do his interviews leave us brimming with confidence? Well you get the point.

The point is TS summed up himself this week why he is NOT the guy to take us forward. Can't remember where I read it but he said he was never told he had to make Champions League, just that he had to improve the football.

not saying he hasn't got results in the league (although his other competition stats are dreadful) but if anyone can argue that this is playing "better" football well I'm obviously blind.
Spurschick
Jerk, do you actually need an answer for that? - Think you know!!!

Jerk, good comeback - COYMS!!!

Spurschick... 'Blud' meaning, in London street talk, blood, which in turn means 'Brother'....
MAN ON!
Thanks highgate I just call him azza;)

re Dawson and previous comments about him being somewhat subdued! I got the impression Kaboul Seemed to be throwing more weight around and acting like captain. Even when the sending off was going on I noticed it was ade and Kaboul in the refs face and Dawson strolled over and dragged them away and didn't get involved. I get no one should ethically try to get someone sent off but it was clear AM didn't remember he had already been booked. In the past though, it would have been him in the refs face. He didn't seem stoked up for the game to me (excuse the pun;)!!!!!)
Spurschick
10 away wins you've seen this season, Highgate. That can't be far off the best ever? Shame we lost 5 at home... Well, hopefully next season will be better to witness, whoever's in charge. But how people can say 18 months wasn't enough time for AVB but write Tim off after 4 months... it is just a massive contradiction. Selective.
jerkinmahjurgen
Spurschick, nicely put... the snippets I heard so far of post match interviews tonight - gotta say much calmer much improved appropriate sensible points made.... today's victory did remind me of some of AVB's victories....
Highgatespur
123spurs, Paulinho was shockingly poor, he's lucky his name isnt something bland like "Jenas" or he'd be crucified on here.... I'd have kept Chadli on and taken pauli off for Sandro, or even Bentaleb.
Guyver
Thanks man on! At least he had a better game than Townsend;) Out of interest did you see the stats comparing azza, Townsend and lamela. My hubby thought I was joking that statistically lamela has the best stats this season out of the three of them;)!!!!!
Spurschick
Spurschick. I think that's correct and the press call Lamella a flop... ;-)
MAN ON!
true guyver exactly brazilian jenas, you would expect a better game from a brazilian and at price we paid for.
123spurs
Guyver, I think after Chadli got the innocuous jar to his knee and he went off to get treatment, he looked like he was struggling a bit. With World Cup coming up he probably wanted to play it safe, and can't blame anyone for that. I like Chadli on the left running at defenders. Don't think he's as good where he is currently being utilised. Would have taken ade or Kane off before Azza though. Paulinho needs a solid DM around him, a sandro or Dembele or even Bentaleb.
Spurschick
Jerk, love seeing the team win ... gotta say of recent times I loved the 2010-11 season away - there was true excitement then if I remember...

this season I was expecting a whole lot more.... wins @ Cardiff, Fulham, Aston Villa, Palace came at the early part of the season and showed me that the squad/ team had the resiliency in place and were going to grow from... I don't think anybody needed/wanted sacking in midstream... To the credit of the team they've carried on ..

Next appointment is crucial to the future of the club - we cannot, and won't be able to, survive another sacking next year.... I just don't have the confidence in the man like you do.... he did show some improvement with his interviewing skills today, as far as I know...
I don't think he has the nous, Jerk...
Highgatespur
Spurschick, Man On! Out of the three, I think only one has started the season ... Lennon!

Geofspurs. A link for the cheeky Berbatov goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8Xr2TFkEik Enjoy.
MAN ON!
Highgate, I know that;) It was stats on games played, goals scored and assists. The hands down winner was lamela
Spurschick
Spurschick, I saw that bit of Dawson's captaincy on the telly just now... I thought it was good captaincy .... thought it had nothing with Spurs players should just have left the ref alone...
Highgatespur
Spurschick, Chadli's been subbed the last 4 games around the 70min mark. 3x for Siggy and once for Dembele. It doesn't seem to be performance related, or due to injury/fitness, it just seems to be Sherwood's "go to" first substitution at the moment. Personally I don't think Paulinho's 1st touch and ability to pass a ball 10 yards should be effected by who's playing alongside him, if anything, Chadli should be more effected as he's the one playing completely out of position..
Guyver
Gotta say Paulinho had a shocker in the second half today - along with most of the team! He should have scored after that run...
Highgatespur
Guyver, I think you misunderstood what I was saying. You said you would have subbed off Paulinho first, I was just noting I thought Chadli was carrying a knock hence why I think he was subbed. I agree he is way out of position. Rose forced himself to be subbed. Townsend was straight swap. It left no other options to sub anyone no matter how bad they were playing!
Spurschick
Brilliant Berbatov! Superb goal. Nice to also see him smiling.
jvd
MAN ON .... Thanks for the Berba goal link. Loved it, Mate. As usual, he made the impossible look easy! Good to see him smiling and enjoying himself. Never seen anyone pull the ball out of the air like he does (probably told you that before). The Goalkeeperís face said it all. Donít think Iíve missed a Spurs player for many years as much as Modric and Berba. Iíve started watching more Real Madrid games just to upset myself!! Cheers. :-)
Geofspurs
I don't think people on here, especially those who did not attend the game in person, can appreciate the atmosphere in that stadium. The team were under immense pressure from the crowd after the red card. Add to that the fact that I don't think the players really believe they have any shot at catching Arsenal who must drop 7 points from their last 9 for us to pass them. Further are players like Paulinho and Chadli and any of the other WC players actually playing as hard as they would normally or is injury evasion they major concern at this stage.

did the conditions of the pitch have anything to do with the errant passing, wet ball? Wet boots? Wet pitch? How many times did we see players simply lose their footing. How easy it is to sit by a TV and call this one crap or ****. What's worse its like this no matter the result. I've said it before. TS may not be a great coach/manager at this time, not sure who is after 5 months but he is a passionate individual and a winner. He hurts when he loses and he will say things that perhaps he shouldn't but he will learn. The other thing I like about him is he WANTS the job. He wants to be the manager of THFC. Now if Van Gall was to come out and say that now I would say great, he's the man for the job but he won't as he's really hoping to get the ManU or Arsenal jobs. Do I want him, no thanks, no sloppy seconds for me!

I'm quite comfortable with TS next season. If some think he isn't a great tactician then bring in a man who is very tactically astute to assist. I'm not a good judge of tactics, I find the game pretty damn simple myself, put the damn ball in the other guys net any freaking way you can. Run fast, tackle hard, chase everything, beat the man in front of you and pass forward. Kick corners so they land in the penalty spot and attack the ball. What's so difficult to understand.
jvd
Lastly if TS is gone then I would like to see Tuchel come in. Young and committed but a football player through and through.
jvd
was that danny rose flying through the air then meeting the ball with a powerful, unstoppable header past the helpless keeper ? not a fan of rose, overall just not good enough but credit where credits due, nice goal. probably the only highlight from a dour game. happy to take away three points but an average performance all round, no standouts, wouldn't be able to pick a MOTM. the defence was sound and kept a clean sheet albeit against a 10 man stoke and without anyone holding. disappointed with pauli again, I wouldn't start with him unless sandro starts alongside him to at least give him some freedom to move forward and play his game ( I haven't personally seen his game but others say he has one. apparently he's Brazilian. )
notnats
jvd - Its too early for me to say I definitely want Tuchel in, ive only just started to read up on the guy but I have to admit I really like what I read and think this manager could could really bring this squad together and build a team that works as a unit. his work ethics, football philosophy and training methods look very impressive.
notnats
jvd ... Good post, Mate. Also, I think Rose did well considering the amount of intimidation and abuse he received from the crowd. It would unbalance anyone. TS did the right thing to take him off, for his own good.
Geofspurs
All the same, Geoff, Rose has to go next season, along with Naughton. They must be the worst pair of full backs we've ever had. Naughton has neither pace nor muscle, Rose has neither muscle nor a brain. What a difference it would have made if Walker were fit and BAE had not been loaned out. Also, we were crying out for a player like Sandro in CM against Stoke.
hiano
hiano ... Agree about BAE and Rose. I'm not sure about Naughton yet. Sandro should have come on, for sure.
Geofspurs
What is it with people on this site that have to resort to name calling other Spurs supporters because they dare to have an opinion that differs from theirs . Lately I have seen supporters of Sherwood use Fool , Idiot , and the worst of all Haters .Debate the topic . Intelligent adults debate , children name call . You only belittle yourselves . We all want whats best for THFC .
sandroman
Freddie Kanoute could pluck a ball out of the air... Despite not having the best stream, the atmosphere at the ground came through loud and clear. Very intimidating. This is Roses' first season as our first choice left-back, and Naughton is our back-up to Walker. He's hardly ever featured for us in what, 6 years? 20 years ago we had an infestation of worse full-backs than we have not. We're 6th, still maths to 4th, though highly unlikely. We're not 13th. 'And worse of all haters' ? The worse line of abuse a blogger can dish out? Behave will ya?
jerkinmahjurgen
Spurschick, I really dont think there are any Sherwood lovers on here, there are the bunch of haters who abuse him come what may and a few and a few who try to defend some poor chap from being constantly abused on here and want to add balance, that's how I see it and as you quite rightly point out again he is only short term and not seen as the likely man to take us forward, a point everyone appeared to be clear on when he started, but still he gets abuse on here. I hope he does well at what he chooses to do in the future and like most I hope it isn't managing us.............................Such a good post JVD
PJcoys1882
Highgate, I fully accept we can fast-track our managerial situation if we get a top-class experienced manager with a track record. But will we? There's a few I'd take. I'd kiss Sherwood goodbye for Ancelotti, LVG maybe, Rafa defo, maybe some others. Not for Moyes (fkn excellent chant, btw) Poncho, and the like. TS isn't using the cream of Tottenham. Goes to Stoke and wins, which isn't very Tottenham in itself, plus they've been quite exceptional at home, but a win using Chadli, Siggy in midfield and our poor links Rose and KN in defense, not to mention slow old Daws and knackered Kaboul. Kane up front... Once established players start believing in him... he has massive potential. I'm not too worried about his personality or apparent lack of cells. Our best recent manager was an untrustworthy loud-mouth. In fact, I appreciate the out-in-the-open approach that Sherwood has. 'Behind closed doors' is so 1800's, and designed IN FAVOUR OF management over workers. And corruption. A major shift in culture that leaves some feeling uncomfortable (just for the sheer scope of change), but Tim has nothing to hide and I like that. coys.
jerkinmahjurgen
Hater is a harsh word, some of us want the best possible for our club and to have someone in charge of the team who is out of his depth at every level is definitely not the best possible. We want a coach that gets the players to outplay teams at a similar or better level, Sherwood has failed to do so on virtually every occasion. An example is yesterday's game when Hughes set up his 10 man side to outplay us. Can't wait for the new season to start with a proper coach, as one of the best clubs we deserve it.
ItalianYiddo
The bottom line is the supporting Tottenham. We should be able to rejoice in what's important at the business end of a season - 3pts. Man On is right, 3-1, 5-1, some still can't enjoy a sunny day. Can't pick out any good. It's like they don't want to get their hands (or mind) dirty, lol. TS 'doing a' BR is still on...
jerkinmahjurgen
Not getting 4th hurt more when it was happening. So be it. But I'm always happier in the wake of a win. Just whacked out a version of God by John Lennon on mah gitah :P Got a roast being cooked later :) The day is good.
jerkinmahjurgen
Italian, statistically both our current and previous managers are about the same, i think clearly Levy needs to make a better appointment next time. who are the some on here in your opinion who dont want the best for the club? i don't see them. i agree with you totally that it would be great to start next season with a proper coach because clearly we didn't this season. Of those who might i would go for either Rafa or the southampton manager.
PJcoys1882
Jerk lucky you! Got to sort out the garden, assemble a bunkbed, keep the kids happy, enertain the hosts later, cook dinner and miss out on the Liverpool v Chelsea game. Rather depressing. I need to get some beer COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Can I ask why Sherwood has earned the nickname Dim? Is it because it rymes with Tim or because the mouth and brain are out of sync? He would have earned a lot more respect if he had gone about his job with the humility that was in order for someone with his pedigree instead of coming out with so much garbage most of the time.
ItalianYiddo
Giggs is class. That is how I would like my manager to conduct himself in front of the media. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
PJ, we have been over this many times. AVB is a proper coach, trophy winner and currently the 6th highest paid in the world, you have to agree that makes him a proper coach. He was unfortunate in his PL career to be employed by two chairmen with the best dismissal rate in the PL. In not giving AVB till the end of the season Levy has inflicted major damage to Spurs, we would have finished the season strongly and more importantly we would have had a solid springboard for next season, as it stands a lot of unhappy players and a poor reputation which isn't going to entice many first choice coaches. Levy out.
ItalianYiddo
lolol James. It's not how Giggs conducts himself in front of the 'media' that's the issue. ;) It's in front of the 'missus' that's the problem. Mind you, at least you'll have lots of 'little Giggs' running around that you could train up.... Get him in!
jerkinmahjurgen
As it happens a manager that is currently out of work which I rate highly is Luciano Spalletti. The irony is that he has recently being sacked by Zenit to be replaced by AVB, hat are the chances that he will end up at Spurs.
ItalianYiddo
jerk...`What time you want me round for Sunday dinner?.
Cider spurs
Don't single out Levy. Across the board the average Prem manager spell isn't that long. Averaging around 2 years, I believe. And that's including Feries' and Wngers' stats. That we had HR for nearly 4 years suggests Levy is improving. To constantly ignore that fact is ridiculous. Levy really didn't want to have to see AVB go. Levy is now under pressure to boot Tim out asap. Go figure.
jerkinmahjurgen
it is because someone on here wanted to insult him, it was the said users choice Italian, that's the reason. I don't agree with you ref AVB Italian, to me where I live (england) he is a two time failure.
PJcoys1882
jerkin, so why didn't Levy let AVB get on with his job, on his terms, till the end of the season?
ItalianYiddo
Hahaha yes Giggs doesn't know when to stop dribbling with his balls. I'm surprised he's not a youth coach to chat up all the house wives ;) COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
To be confirmed, Cider. The folks do the honourable thing in fitting it around Spurs, bless 'em (It is rather pointless not to, to be honest...) and they didn't realise it was n/a. I'll keep you posted ;)
jerkinmahjurgen
No wrongs, no rights. Tis' all about opinions and how one wishes to express them at the time of hitting submit.

Did not see the match, but being the last game to be aired on Match of the Day tells me all I need to know. All the gear, no idea. Love and hate, Yin and yang. Go hand in hand, obnoxious behaviour has no place within the realm of VS. I hate Pineapple!.
Cider spurs
PJ, the reason he got straight back to work at a high level is because being sacked by Levy and Abramovic is not considered a failure. Rodgers would have being sacked by Levy for finishing 7th last season. I say it again, not to give him till the end of the season was senseless, we now start again. Levy out.
ItalianYiddo
jerk...LOL!, Have to admit, it's pretty standard practice at my house. If Spurs are on at Lunchtime, "come on round for Breakfast folks", failing this, "Why don't you go off for the day, I'll cook us a nice meal for about 6 ish.". Brownie points all round.
Cider spurs
Italian, I guess The Board thought that AVB wasn't doing things in Spurs' best interests. Using the squad he was given. The Board would surely hold meetings and, when it comes to the crunch, surely would consult the players about their views? Or already know how the managers tactics, selections and actions are affecting the players over-all. Proper in-house stuff that we don't get to hear about. Who knows? Maybe the difference is I trust Levy, who answers to others. Everton seem to have restrictions. Look at how they are run? Look at what Levy does for us with restrictions? Yeah, we'll get criticized for spending £100m (that's SPENDING, it's not 'on the knock') and ending up 6th, but City, Chelsea... they spent like this and won nowt. And again. And a third time of massive annually spending they win the league. They'll do it again this year. Spend massively. It took them both a while of spending money that ain't theirs to get to where they are. And when they were doing that, they were keeping the Modrics', Bales', etc. HR 4yrs. AVB 5.5 years between the two. Way above the average, recently. Some of the criticism is unfair, or at least, dated.
jerkinmahjurgen
Italian I would prefer Levy to AVB at our club because he has done much more to move us forward, yes he/they may have peaked out now. We have a healthy difference of opinion here and want cant influence the past, we can however dream of influencing the future and on a much more positive note who do you think out of those who might realistically come would take us forward? I gave two names up above and would add Hoddle and possibly Laudrup to that list. What do you think?
PJcoys1882
Also, jerkinmahjurgen, Harry was supposedly offered a new contract by Levy, but refused, whilst in his pursuit of the England job. He was supported by Levy through his court case and health worries as well. Redknapp was given a lot of opportunity to continue with Spurs but blew it for himself.
MAN ON!
6 new, highly rated young players, along with Soldado, were added to help AVB along as well. That suggests to me that at the start of the season AVB was being trusted to take us forward a few steps. For whatever reason it didn't work out.
MAN ON!
Man on that is very true, the club and board showed huge support for Redkanpp and he didn't appear to show it too much respect at the time, hard to see how Levy or the board could be criticised there.
PJcoys1882
I realise Zenit are a massive club and like to do well in the CL, and have recently been well-financed, something that is leveling out globally - Russia, France, etc, but I believe Zenit to be a cut above most of their domestic competition outside of a handful, therefor suggesting AVBs' job will be slightly easier for him. He's possibly seen as a coup to them, to help them in their progression. And it could be a good environment for him as well, if he can stand the cold and put up with the racist feckers. I don't miss him but I wouldn't've wished that on him. Poor chap. He could be very good in the future as well, but if he only does it for 10 years (as he has previously stated he would) he may have already peaked. He also, has lots to learn.
jerkinmahjurgen
Giggs now has the best win % of any Man U manager, just like tim with us. They should both keep their jobs based on the stats :).
Kong
Lev has backed every manager we have had,his manager choices are the only things I can question, hopefully this one will be the one to get us going in the right direction.
Kong
Good point, Man On. Poker M'On! Gotta catch 'em all! I sure missed that one... We should not give our managers' guns. Or at least teach them to hold it up at the shoulder, not down at the foot.
jerkinmahjurgen
with you on that one Kong
PJcoys1882
No, Kong. It's not been Levys' choice of manager that's been the problem. It's been the managers' choices' of action that's been the problem. You sign a manager, and 3 years later he's courting the England job. What? You employ a manager and 18 months later he's playing a fox as a target with no crosses. That's not Levys' fault! The only chairman you're gonna appreciate is Derren Brown, I think.
jerkinmahjurgen
Derek brown would be cool Jerk, yes it is not levys fault what happens on the pitch but firing around 9 managers in his time is not right, he chooses the manager so has to accept blame too, he took a risk with AVB and it backfired, he has to get it right now, if that means not interfering with transfers then so be it.
Kong
Derren brown even, not sure about Derek.
Kong
Agree with you Man On with HR as far as AVb - I don't think we'll ever find out what really happened that summer - AVB's targets opposed to what we got.... but the record of Levy's doesn't look too impressive...
Highgatespur
Reports claim that Rafa would 'jump at the chance' to manage Spurs. He does have a good history. I could support Levys' decision to replace Tim with someone of this ilk. I'd feel for Tim, though. And I'd be left wondering, because there's a chance he could be cutting it, whereas I think AVB had probably blown his chance here. Ancelotti would probably be risk free. Almost a guarantee that he'll do well. I don't think Rafa is behind him in that respect. Almost a guarantee for improvement. Even just the 'will it work here and now' factor isn't a massive risk. If he's gettable, get!
jerkinmahjurgen
Cider, I usually leave the juvenile like comments well alone... all I can I say support the club before the individuals.
Highgatespur
Jerk, I think Rafa might just be the best possible option available to us all round
PJcoys1882
Jerk, I don't think getting rid of the manager mid way through a season can be regarded as serving the best interests of the club...I do think we've regressed as a club due to the reckless action in December.... absolutely gained nothing from it.
Highgatespur
rafael benitez is refusing to sign an extension,he wants to come back to the epl.i say iwe approach rafa, ancheloti even lvg who imo would be wrong and if we fail with these top graders than i say stick with tim sherwood-
ghulamville
dont want to see pochetino,de boer or any italian replacing tim.not worth it
ghulamville
And if Madrid do go for a change, Ancelotti MAY be gettable. All hinges on whether he's itching for the Prem or not. And who Man U want... I'm sure there'll be a couple of Italian giants to compete with as well. It's gonna be a strain on the nerves. Is there any actual proof that Sherwood has been told he's going, or is it all paper talk? We might not even be entertaining the thought of entering the managerial merry-go-round!!! Best to prepare for every possible eventuality...
jerkinmahjurgen
Who cares what Richard Keys says or thinks ?!!!!
Highgatespur
Rafa would be an excellent choice as manager. Snap him up! COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Jerk, see you are fencing again ?
Highgatespur
rafa would be better suited than anchelotti-just look at the clubs anchelloti.ac milan (when they were strong financially and players)the chavs(money bags)and real(money bags).compare this with rafa, valencia, liverpool and napoli(all operating organically with budgetary constraints)-this is what the manager will inherit at spurs.rafa all the way
ghulamville
I think so too, PJ. It is kind of swapping one nut-case for another but now in his mid-50's, I think Rafa has done all of his learning, and will not be as rash as previous, will handle the pressure better, and has a good trophy haul as well. But he's still mental. 'Passionate'. Controversial. Embarrassing at times. He's like Sherwood with a track record! He's certainly not a boring. Nor's his football. He'll be on the touchline tweaking any weaknesses. Contesting any decision. He'll say it as he see's it. His recruitment record is seen as a bit 'hit and miss'. We've yet to discover what Sherwoods' will be like. Rafa doesn't mind playing youngsters. Loves the cups. Imagine that! Can rotate. He's a winner. One of the reasons a big Italian club won't get a top4 space. In Spain with Valencia. Breaking moulds and muscling in amongst the monsters. Against real monsters. Never with. Liverpool the biggest monster he had, in the midst of a coma. But still the punched better then that with his predecessors until the very current. I think he'd do really well.
jerkinmahjurgen
Great minds, Ghulam... ;)

Rafa would certainly divide opinion on here. Dropping favourites for the sake of rotation. Playing players out of position to suit his formation. Zonal marking. Strange mind games with other managers via the media. Calm one minute, furious the next. Loved and/or hated by players, fans and chairman alike. Cool yet controversial. I like him.

Nice hand gestures too...

Yesterday was Stokes 3rd only home loss this season. Beating Arsenal, United and Chelsea along the way. So, not a bad 3 points, after all.
MAN ON!
Also I can't believe people are still going on about AVB... he was rubbish, not only did he turns Harry's free flowing attacking football into a slow, boring, grind out a win when Bale eventually scores team, but he lost 3-0, 6-0 and 5-0 to West Ham, City and Liverpool... and he (spurs team) never scored more than 3 goals at home in a league match,,, and, and, he probably quit cos he couldn't handle how shi1 we were....
T.H.F.Chris
Jerk that is a very good piece ref Rafa, I have always thought he was tough in the way he fended off the media always focusing on what was good for the club he was managing and winning the next game, he is all you describe so well.
PJcoys1882
Ha ha THFC. Last sentence cracked me up with the "and, and". It wasn't great footy but I believe it was building to something good. He's gone! Doing well now, mind.

Childbirth would divide opinion on here ManOn and if anything went wrong with that it would be Sherwood's fault.
PJcoys1882
MAN ON not only that but stoke were on for their 5th home win in a row including Arsenal, so a very good three points in reality.. However if we were battling for fourth it would be considered a very good WIN as well... But as it was pointless match it goes down as a boring win...
T.H.F.Chris
PJcoys1882. Funny.... I also think Jerk's description of Rafa is a good one......

T.H.F.Chris. Europa's still up for grabs. ;-) Bit of pride as well... Not a lot of that this season....

Dubs I was thinking the building something thing and was looking forward to the results but the and, and's just go to show how undisapointed i was went he quit in the end. Shame it didn't work out but now Levy has to get someone proven, firmly in the Rafa camp.
T.H.F.Chris
Man On - I enjoyed the winning .... but even I can't disagree with the comments about the turgid display in the 2nd half especially with 10 man ... we're mighty relieved at the ground some even thought we were back in September... I still can't understand the subs....

A bit defeatist Man On! I thought the CL is still up for grabs!!!
Highgatespur
Europa haha, trying to stir up another VS arguement ;) .. At this stage a good win/performance is needed to take pride from stoke victory.
T.H.F.Chris
Dublin Sunderland staying up mate,,, stupid red card though, fair enough play on then bring it back for a penalty but don't ruin the game by sending him off, didn't prevent a goal scoring opportunity just made it harder.
T.H.F.Chris
THF, I hope your right. Ill take any proven manager, would like an understudy too. looks like UTD are doing what some suggested on here with LVG / Giggs. win win situation. wish we went for him a few weeks ago and got it nailed on.
Still onto the future. 2 mare games with himself, then the excitement starts all over again. Wonder who will manage the A team for the King Testimonial??

BTW, yesterdays game was awful all round. Both teams. I have never seen a match where two players were not used, one from either team, to stop a killing, and Stoke put on the most thuggish display I have seen for a long time! the home fans reaction to DR was despicable. Great 3 points on the road to Europe, but what an unexciting game, wart from the violence of course. Glad you got the win for your travels, those who wen (Love Totty, Highgate, Clive)
Dublin Hotspur
Cape town, in his first comment on this thread summed it up perfectly!

THF. I would like nothing better than to see Sunderland stay up, along with Fulham. West Ham, Norwich (for beating us and sacking Hughton) and Cardiff my choices for Relegation.

Would United be interested in Rafa? Would Rafa go there?

Dublin, the winning was great... I still can't understand the substituting ... it was good to see Sandro full of smiles ,,, Bobby has a new hair style - for the world cup ?!!!

It seems Rose has a history with Stoke fans due to his diving with Sunderland... As we agreed earlier I just think he's a BIG temper issue... should've been sent really .... i think we'd've played better 10 v 10!!!Two to go but the interview was an improvement!
Highgatespur
whats with my spelling today!! its ****!
Dublin Hotspur
Highgate, never saw the interview yet. I'm hoping now if I ignore him he'll go away! I have an innate fear that if we all shut up about him, someone at Spurs will say "oh they've stopped going on about TS, They must be accepting him! keep him!" Lol, but I'm so bored of it now!
Dublin Hotspur
Thanks for the kind comments. I might stick a quid on a double - Spurs 4th and Hammers relegated. That would set me up... Both possible but highly unlikely.

west ham going down would be class, also like to see fulham and sunderland stay up, I think one of them will but Norwich are dead certs to go down, can't see them getting another point.
T.H.F.Chris
Adequate result and three points, no more, nothing to get excited about, especially failing to capitalise on them going down to 10. Only two games to go, in a very disappointing season. At the end, perhaps Levy will come to his senses, and sort out the managerial farce, but given his past track record, we shouldn't hold our breath.
Frank
I think it will be Cardiff, Norwich and Fulham to go down,
Frank
T.H.F.Chris, yes agree about Norwich, shame really got soft spot for them.

Dublin, pleasantly surprised the interview was conducted rationally, calmly without any absurd and accusatory statements... haven't heard but just read... this s'land game is SO boring....

I have a feeling Fulham stay up and we relegate Villa on the last day of the season, while slipping into 5th, one point behind Arsenal!
Dublin Hotspur
TE same here mate, helps the first game I ever saw was Tottenham 4-0 Norwich, Lineker Hatrick, Howells Penalty.... fact is they are not good enough though, one win out of their final 7 games probaby would have saved them, 4 pts certainly would have.
T.H.F.Chris
T.H.F.Chris: "Also I can't believe people are still going on about AVB... he was rubbish, not only did he turns Harry's free flowing attacking football into a slow, boring, grind out a win when Bale eventually scores team, but he lost 3-0, 6-0 and 5-0 to West Ham, City and Liverpool... and he (spurs team) never scored more than 3 goals at home in a league match,,, and, and, he probably quit cos he couldn't handle how shi1 we were...."

that last part was very funny. good one. I liked the post and I agree with it. I don't think he would have managed to get past benfica and I also don't think he would have achieved anything in the FA cup. We lost to Leeds last season under him and we didn't look better under him this season. At the same time though, thing about this one: after 16 matches he realized he wasn't going to win the league, so he went to a team where he will probably win the league. We can never know if he wasn't going to bring success at Tottenham if given more time and more appropriate support from the board, appropriate being the key word, but having said that, I won't miss him simply because I watch football for entertainment, I like seeing goals, and despite the horrific defending, we have scored 3 goals in many matches under an amateur and were absolutely useless at scoring under AVB this season. I honestly believe a good manager suited for us would have done better than AVB and better than Tim but you won't see me suffering about our failed season, it's just not worth it imo. Liverpool hovered around 7 for several season before everything ticked for them, and if Real Madrid would have offered them 65mil for Suarez I doubt they would be challenging for the title now, but that's just life, maybe our time will come. All I know is that everything needs to be right if we are going to improve. Things were not right with AVB and they aren't right with Tim. We need to get it right. If we get lucky with the right manager in the summer we might have a good season in 2014-1015
logos8
PS. Rodgers would have probably challenged for the league with Harry's squad.
logos8
for the league title I mean
logos8
The Sunderland vs Cardiff game has shown the difference between having a decent manager and not. Solskaer's team have been clueless in this game. He set them up to defend and they've offered nothing. Poyet on the other hand has let his team pay without fear. They're all working for each other and have ended up battering Cardiff. I would definitely have Poyet on my shortlist if I were Levy. He did a great job at Brighton and seems to have followed it up at Sunderland. I can't imagine what he could do with a decent squad like ours.
muttley
so long as its not Tim or Moyes
topspur53
logos agree mate, not sure what would have happened but it certainly wasn't happening. We all like the pub but when we were seriously contemplating (it would never actually happen) staying and missing the match you know something is wrong... Harry's squad was brilliant but that season we needed a new quality player in the January window, or Defoe's outstretched leg to contect just before the dirty cheating Balotelli scored his penalty...big turning points where we messed up, Liverpool have kicked on, good luck to them today.
T.H.F.Chris
Re earlier posts re Benitez, yes he would be a good, maybe the best, option for us, has PL knowledge, wins things, and has worked with limited budgets for intrusive owner/chairmen, those are his plusses. On the minus side, are that he has made a few dodgy signings, he is somewhat eccentric with both his strange rotation policies, and his interviews, and media statements, his "wind ups". The minuses sound very like Dim, but the difference is Benitez is proven, he has been there, done it, and bought the tee shirt, in all competitions including the CL. You have to respect the bloke's achievements, if he is gettable, let's get him, simple as that. He is probably the only blue chip coach we could realistically attract and as such if there is any chance Levy has to "push the boat out".
Frank
Muttley are matters between Poyet and Spurs not tainted by his time here as Ramos's asst.
Frank
Frank - not sure. I thought at the time he was the unlucky guy to get the sack along with Ramos, Commoli and the other back room staff. I have no clue whether there is any bad blood between him and Levy but would hope not.

Forgetting that it is Chelsea for a minute, you have to admire the tactics in that first half. Liverpool come out quick, so slow the game down, pack the midfield, get two good central midfielders in their, frustrate them. Exactly the opposite to what we did.

PJcoys-1882
logos, you think that AVB would have not got past Benfica. Obviously you are entitled to your opinion, I respect people's opinions however misguided they are but let me give you a fact. AVB beat Benfica to win the Europa League.
ItalianYiddo
Jerkin, how can you justify letting AVB go mid season and put a trainee in charge? Were we relegation threatened? Senseless decision that will cost the club, another season lost, we start again.
ItalianYiddo
PJ, regarding the prospective new coach question it is difficult to give you names. Levy has damaged our reputation, at the time of AVB's dismissal Rodgers more or less said thank goodness I didn't choose Spurs over Liverpool and who's brave enough to disagree with him. Our problem is that we have an interfering knee jerking chairman, a modest by top four standards wage structure and one of the league's lowest net spending record. Hardly going to entice any of the A listers, we have to rely on being third or fourth choice.
ItalianYiddo
I think ItalianYiddo makes the right point: Timmy is a trainee. That's something he should be doing at a club at a lower level if the normal course of events plays out. Now I'll grant that trainees have done spectacularly well at some trades and crafts: Look at the success of the young Alexander the Great. But as the famous British mathematician R.A. Fisher said, rare events do occur, albeit rarely. My take on the performance of Timmy to date is that he's not yet good enough. I'm agnostic on the possibility that he may yet grow into a decent manager, but WHL is not the place for him to be doing a training project on himself. Loan him out to some first division side to get his training as a manager. Someone wrote above, asking whether Mourinho was tactically wise in his first six months, and the probable answer is that he was not. But note that those first six months for Josť weren't at a top six club in the Premier League. SAF didn't get his first six months as a manager at Man U, he worked his way up to that job. This is not the place for Timmy to learn this craft. Alexander the Great he ain't. We don't need a manager who is biking with training wheels.
Falstaff the Fool
falstaff good post.... Jose was tactically aware and very methodical from the off but there is an educated man who was preparing for his own success for years....as opposed to an opportunist who doesn't do attention to detail or proper preparation...

Falstaff, Alexander the Great maybe not Tim the Dim has a nice ring to it. A lot has been said about the word hate, I don't think anyone really hates him, i'm sure everyone will wish him well with his career at Scunthorpe.

Fool/Italian Our season was over, AVB had f-ed it beyond repair by building a team so boring and prepared to get destroyed by anyone with an ounce of quality (3-0, 6-0, 5-0, 5-1, 4-0, 4-0 all players AVB bought) f me it is actually embarressing to write that, had more to say but no need really, point is perfect time to bring in a trainee, nothing to lose, Tim done ok - next season is the time to bring someone 'elite' in.
T.H.F.Chris
" who do you want to see as the new manager for next season Falstaff?," PJcoys-1882

Someone with a wee bit more experience as a manager than Timmy. Someone who doesn't wan the team to play a thuggery style, nor wants to win by boring everyone to death. Someone who will make us proud of our team. And someone who is not a trainee. But since I don't get to decide who is the next manager I see little advantage to bandying about a number of specific names. But since you seem to want names, here are some (and they are not meant to be taken seriously): Ex Pope Benedict, who can wash the players feet before each match. The tailor for the Emperor, who can sew the team's new kit. Glenn Miller, who can have some muted cornets accompany to supporters in song. Glenn Hoddle, who can bring a tear to the eyes of those over 50 when he is appointed. Me, so I can arrange for our pre-season training to be done in Pernambuco.

Falstaff the Fool
Man On! - not defending him in any way or whatever .... when the bus has to be parked ut has to be parked - like we did at AC Milan in the first leg CL 2010/11!

Italian you clearly have very deep rooted problem around the sacking of AVB, I don't, but I do respect the fact that you have a problem with it. Don't you personally have any choices for who you would like to see manage the club? after all so many people on here seem to be saying they could select a manager better than Levy, so I guess it must be an easy thing to do in that case. So? the future, who do you see coming in?
PJcoys-1882
ItalianYiddo, he beat a Benfica who lost their top players that season including David Luiz and Ramires to Chelsea and Di Maria to Real Madrid. While Porto were CL standard that year with Falcao, Hulk, Moutinho ect. I doubt he'd have beaten today's Benfica with today's Spurs.

Guyver
I've never suggested that TS is any kind of genius. Why would I? I'll not take away from how good Jose is either. All I say is Tim should be given his due for doing a hard job, reasonably well. His first managerial job under such difficult circumstances and in a season of transition, as we all know. What was always a difficult task for AVB, became an even more tough ask for Sherwood. Why people can't appreciate that, I'll never know.
MAN ON!
I can only tell you that he did beat Benfica so he had a better chance than Dim, I think there was a very good chance that we would have got past Benfica, I honestly don't think they are better than us they are a well drilled but not better. The tie was lost at WHL where yet again we were poorly set with Dim.
ItalianYiddo
No wonder no-one had heard of the phrase when Mourinho said it. The hypocrite invented it. He's the Portuguese Sam Alladice. You could even argue that Big Sam wouldn't do it if he had some money or some of the worlds best players. Mourinho is a just boring, spoilt, unlikeable hypocrite, with absolutely no class.

PJcoys, you fail the reading comprehension test. I wrote before I suggested Hoddle that the names are not suggested seriously. Why don't you ask me whether I really would like to see Ex Pope Benedict, or myself, as our next manager? Those names also were on the list, which, as I wrote at the time, was not meant as a list to be taken seriously. I was having one on, mate.

What a fantastic coaching performance by Mourinho at Anfied, absolutely strangled Liverpool, and then getting 2 goals. The guy really is the real deal, love him or hate him, he certainly is the special one. I can't think of another coach that would get that Chelsea team, with it's obvious limitations and shortages, not only in contention for the PL, but knocking on the door of a CL final place as well. As somebody has said this season "managing a PL club, isn't exactly rocket science", maybe it is if you do it properly.

PJ, yes I have a problem with the premature dismissal of AVB as I think he's exactly the sort of coach we need to build a successful winning team. He was building foundations some of us wanted to see the finishing touches, you need a plan, you need time and patience. If you don't have time and patience you need lots of money, unfortunately we don't have time, patience or money so I am at a loss to suggest a name that will be likely to succeed without being a gamble.
ItalianYiddo

You've left out the central word needed in any description of "the special one," which is "arrogant." I'd not like him as the face of THFC, even though he wins a lot. But he lost last week to Sunderland, which was a source of great joy seeing his comeuppance. Great tactician with the petulance of a three year old.

That wasn't a silly question, and my answer to it was intended to say that I haven't the foggyist idea who we should hire next. The silly question was asking whether I supported Hoddle when I'd just said that my suggestions were in jest and not to be taken seriously. I'd suggested Pope Benedict and the Emperor's tailor, for the god's sake. Hoddle was in the same list with them, so clearly I wasn't suggesting Hoddle seriously. (Although I would accept Hoddle as a serious candidate, if he were appointed; he's a man with the requisite training and history with the club.) But you could just as reasonably have asked me if I really wanted Pope Benedict as our next manager. What was silly, I suppose, was taking my silliness seriously. I never could have imagined that anyone would do that.(p>
Anyway, let's not be angry at one another. I was writing in jest and was surprised that it wasn't taken that way. How silly of me.

Park in ze bus. Sometimes you have to. Mourinho parks it enough and when others do he doesn't always get round it. And when he doesn't, the smug wonker whinges like the petulant man he has been described as being. If he had some simple human decency I could take to him. I have no problem with successful people/managers. I've mentioned a few recently that I appreciate. Good managers. Ok people. Sherwood's an ok person. He pulls no punches. He's hard-ball. But even he, the dim unqualified one, has a level of decency and respect that Mourinho, a posh, loaded student, could never match. Sir Bobby Robson, wtf did you help create?

It's all that 'ref' malarkey. Gives you away every time ;) Just stick re down. Be devious. Try harder :D
jerkinmahjurgen
It just means it will go down to the last kick, 123. All three could still win it. As for Arsenal, it seems seasons' ago they dropped out of it. Hahaha! At least that's sorted the trolls' out.
jerkinmahjurgen
This weeks song for Sherwood? The Bee Gees. You win again.
jerkinmahjurgen
Winners don't like losing. How many times have we seen Fergie and Wenger lose graciously? The outburst after losing against Sunderland was probably a smoke screen to protect his players, the opposite of what the Dim One done after our loss at Chelsea, he didn't park the bus at Stamford Bridge he just threw our players under it.

Highgatespur you'll know soon enough re:topho. :) FTF Gazza has put on loads of weight. Best I've seen him since his career finished. Agree with his demons, let's hope he has put all that behind him. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
It wasn't really just down to Jose's tactics winning the match today. It was as much to do with Liverpools ropey defending letting them down again on both goals. They've now only conceded 3 less than Spurs. Rodgers still has a lot to learn.
MAN ON!
@PJcoys-1882, glad to find that things are copacetic between us.

I agree with jerkinmahjurgen entirely about Josť Mournho. Good tactician and horrible human being. I'd rather not see this monstrously petulant fellow ever have a connection to our club in any official capacity. Hiring him would be an exemplar to the nth degree of a Faustian bargain. The Special One? Puxa vida! And that's the polite version. In Mourniho's tongue, the stronger version refers to the excrement of a paid sex worker. I watched him point to the badge of Chelsea on his jacket today, but to be honest that demonic man has no loyalty to anything other than his own ego. Fique fora, o pedinte do diabo.

FTF, very true but one has to say well done to the team who beat the unbeatables (as the media and the rest would have us believe...) - I say well done... with a heavy heat...)
Highgatespur
If the top 3 clubs all take all of their remaining points, Citeh will take the title on goal difference, unless poo go on a massive scoring binge. Chelsea would end up in third, no?
Falstaff the Fool
with a heavy heart, highgate? Of the three, I'd rather Poo pip it. I'd rather Mourinho fall into a pile of poo.
Falstaff the Fool
Self depicted maybe but special one he is when it comes to football, winning the CL with a miles inferior Inter against Barca is for me the pinnacle of his career. Loathe as much a you like but special he is.
ItalianYiddo
Special he is, but the word "special" also is used for people with special needs, children are placed in special education. Positively special in terms of winning matches and morally special when it comes to having a deficit.
Falstaff the Fool
123spurs You`re such a troll nobody even replies to your posts.

Jose annoys me but also makes me laugh. I suppose the devil has the best tunes..... He said in his pre match interview that he was concerned that Schwarzer could be injured by one of Suarez's dives. (Made me LOL anyway).
MAN ON!
Italian we had Bale, Modric and Berba to sell because as a club we did exceptional business to get then in the first place, the fact we are well up on net spend league table is again very good business in any industry. as a club we were not compelled to invest 107 million in new players but we chose to, showing massive support to the management team at that time. Now, the fact the we bought 7 players with no prem experience opening the door to "will they wont they make it in the prem" must be seen as bad business, it's not gone well for us has it? we need to learn most from that experience and ensure we get a much better return in the next window. Then we can move forward. Employing a better manager this time round will be a huge help too. I don't include Sherwood in that statement as he was and is only and interim solution, I think we all understand that.
PJcoys-1882
Falstaff the Fool

So Spurs are so bad we have to aim our support at other teams?
That`s how far Spurs are fallen,we support other clubs just to fuel our ego. We`re supporting other clubs but for all the wrong reasons,we have to start supporting other clubs for league positions,we do it just to wipe the smile of others, that`s sad.

Liverpool beat Spurs 9-0 over 2 league games,Mourinho is a tactical genius & it`s painful to see Chelsea do something that Spurs were not even close to doing.

We beat 10 man Stoke & get boners, but where are we truly?....way behind, too far,it`s embarrassing when you start having to will on other clubs because Spurs are so $hit.
Fanny adams
That's football Falstaff, if they were to play each other again 10 times chances are that that Chelsea would beat them every time. That's why we love the game.
ItalianYiddo
Highgatespur- man on is pulling your chain....he's not Topho...(tempted top do a Sparticus now 'No, I'm Topho') I don't know who is...but I have a strong inclination....seem to recall Topho once used our established date in his user name....

FTF I certainly don't want Chelski to win the league - loved the quip about wee Jamie !!
Highgatespur
lol Shedboy. Very good. When the feelings gone and you can't go on... Liverpool were nervous and naive. Gerrard was trying shots even Bale wouldn't think of. They just needed to show more patience and be at peace with the ball. But it was what you'd expect from a club that hasn't won the league for decades, still challenging with 3 games left, against Chelsea's established bunch. Liverpool should really have carved out an equalizer, though. And Chelsea's 2nd, with only Mignolet in 'Pools half, wouldn't that pass have been off-side in the good old days?
jerkinmahjurgen
What division are Bristol City in? God I'm juvenile!

PJ, Bale, Modric, Berba = Comolli. Guess what Levy sacked him too. He got lucky and didn't even know it, when the luck runs out is he going to dip in his pockets? The seven were always to take a season to establish, if he bought them expecting to hit the ground running he's an even bigger football fool (no offence Falstaff) than I thought.
ItalianYiddo
Rafa? Pass me the sauce... I mean wine.
MAN ON!
Italian annoyingly the scum are on to win the cup and finish 4th, if they fck it and finish 5th with no trophy then they've had a shocking season especially considering the big results. I don't know what you like so much about AVB, in the three seasons he's been in prem league he's been average at best, finishing 5th is very, very average, that was his best achievement. He quit as well mate, bottled it when it got really tough. And my point was those players Tim has were AVB's, so i hold him also responsible for the other big loses, nothing suggests he would have done any better, couldn't even beat Utd at home.... With the trainee thing there was no better time to give him a go, no elite manager would come to us mid season, we need Rafa, Mancini or LvG (who we tried and failed), it was Hoddle or Tim, i would have preferred Hoddle but giving Tim a go was ok, the season was over, this squad was never winning a cup.
T.H.F.Chris
shedboy2 ... hmmm don't know - what would be the purpose of doing that ? Topho used quite scandalous language at times - where would the "enjoyment" be in that ? nah he's probably saying what he is... none of us really know... I'll keep a look out ...

br>You're not suggesting, Big C, that Spurs still have a chance this season to win the PL? Of the three who are contending, I'd hate to see Mourinho and the Russian thug win it, I'd hate to see the massive influx of oil money win it in Citeh (although it is good to see long suffering supporters win something, as highgatespur says), so it's a process of elimination to hope Poo pips it over the petulant one who spouts poo. I'd much rather see us in contention, but we obviously are not at this point. I agree the situation is sad and won't be happy until we truly are contending to titles. A decent manager would help more toward that goal. Bemoaning the sadness won't help attain the goal.

Moral of the story: The gooners may be above us in the standings, but we're human.

123spurs
Falstaff the Fool Yes but you see my point because i`m the same.
Spurs are so $hit we have to seek other avenues to gain some sort of football satisfaction, because our club doesn`t give us any.

Spurs as football club needs to start achieving it`s potential, because it`s so frustrating that it`s there for all to see.
The Liverpool Chelsea result should have had some sort of bearing of Spurs league position, but it did not.And that is the only reason Spurs should be supporting other clubs, because it alters our destiny & our league position.
The Everton result yesterday should have been significant for Spurs fan,but sadly it was not,it`s too late.

We should be supporting whoever plays Arsenal so Spurs can get top4,but no we`re doing it because we prefer Everton to get it,& they themselves have cocked that up,top 4 has already been taken. The top 4 now is the top 4 at end of season.

Spurs cheer on clubs through spite & hatred, not through their own means, next season this has to change,or Levy you should be SACKED.

Struggling in 6th with the worst Manchester United team in the last 20 odd years?
Tim Sherwood you have to go,next manager doesn`t pan out,Levy you go aswell.

I`ve supported Levy but for me, this is Levys last manager appointment that he gets wrong before i want him out,IMO.
Tim Sherwood is close to being the straw that breaks the Spurs fans camels back.Next one wrong & it`s game over man, game over.

I'm almost convinced he should go as well, through fear of supporting a man that may ruin a few Spurs supporters lives.. Then again, I'm a very cruel man.. ;-0

MAN ON! would find he's become HO ON THE BOTTOM, ItalianYid would be a 16 year old Croatian boy,... Wait, confusion would reign. We'd suspect that Coops is ItalianYid. Big C would wonder if he had lost his identity and become fanny adams (that is, feck all), I would find I'm wise rather than a wise guy. What a mess. But I'd still urge Ox to have the techies do it. Then we could all leave our ego's at the door with our identities. Nice comment, Bede. You idiot, Man Overboard. Got any ITK, Jebe Se?

MAN ON! Next manager is last time i support Levy, but i`m going to back him 100% with the next one, that 100% will turn to 0% if it goes wrong.

Honestly still a Levy fan.But in truth us fans can get it wrong as much as we like,we`re not paid millions to get decisions right. We`re just a bunch of Spurs fans talking bollox,it`s what fans do.

If Levy get`s the next manager wrong then it`s game over for him as far as i`m concerned.Levy has to get it right as chairman making bare cash,we can get it wrong because we are Spurs financial bloodline.

people at Spurs need to start doing what they`re paid to do.We have to in our jobs without sympathy when it goes badly wrong.
Fanny adams
Fanny, good post, saying as it is. Levy is fast running out of lives, gets the next one wrong and the fans revolt. I honestly think that his best bet is Hoddle, most fans will give him the benefit of the doubt and he will be off the hook. He has left himself in a difficult situation.
ItalianYiddo
Jerk, hopefully he will say goodbye ... but Bourinho has already covered that hasn't he - by saying they're not going to win anything this season at the outset! I do wish we has a similar WINNING mentality...
Highgatespur
IY, how do you think the supporters ought to revolt ... I don't think GH is the solution... I can't see the supporters revolting at WHL - we are too proud to do that..

Highgatespur
Fanny that big post reads and bit harsh but very true sadly. The season has been a shame since before the window opened last summer. Levy simply must get it "right" next time. Italian i think Hoddle is a good call here.
PJcoys-1882
Highgate, the revolt is starting already, blue empty seats. Levy out chants will be next if he messes up next time because chances are he will go for the cheap option.

How about Terry Venerables?
MAN ON!
I wasn't trying to cause any offense when I referred to lovers/haters. I was just trying to state I could understand varying differences in opinion, and that the topic of TS has probably more extreme variations in level of attitude of his position than any manager I can remember for quite a while. The terms were not meant to be literal, rather a descriptive reference to the extreme differences of opinion regarding him. If I caused offense then I'm sorry.

But this why i respect footballers 100% & love them being role models for our kids.

Spurschick
Venables got sacked because he was robbing the club
Fanny adams
None of us know ourselves, MAN ON, and we're all confused about our identities. Especially those of us who have loved Spurs for decades. I'm having "Why Me?" on my gravestone. But at least we're the ones with a frog on our heads, rather than the inverse.

Falstaff, Did you ever see a woman in New York City with a frog in her hand? Spurs fan I think....

Highgate, the Sunderland wasn't a sellout, not good if you want to fill a 55,000 capacity stadium. For the first time in 15 years I am undecided on renewing, definetily not if Dim is in charge next season. Levy should do the decent thing, confirm him as manager for next season or make a statement on the situation.
ItalianYiddo
MAN ON! did not make a serious suggestion that we bring back Terry Venables. He was making a play on the name of the Venerable Bede. Only this.

We need someone who isn't afraid to do it their way, but still keep it in the spurs way.

it was interesting listening to the commentators after the Chelsea game and they were saying that mourinho wasn't afraid to change his plan up to beat Liverpool, but they hoped they never had to watch 20 teams in th pl trying to play like that.

we need attacking play but we need organization! a plan! a backup plan but someone who can deal with man management, to appease the egos and rotate the squad.

Fa I know why he lost his job, my point was our managers of questionable character seem to have the knack for playing the spurs way?! I'm not saying I want someone who is going to come in and rob the club, but I don't think a squeaky clean person so to speak will cut it either.

my point being slightly contentious managers come across as having more success, mourinho! LVG is renowned for his attitude! fergie ruffled feathers. Then take Wenger who is too much of a gentleman and doesn't like to get involved. Getting my point yet?
Spurschick
Reports suggest that LVG will join Utd after WC. Which is great news. Means we can keep Tim! Or get Rafa. Is it worth having Poch for 6 months if it gets us Shaw and Lallana? We can boot Poch out for the new year and reinstate our perennial ship-steadier?
jerkinmahjurgen
The Brendan Rodgers analogy is a good one and after avb was sacked, he himself came out and said he had a close shave in not taking over at surs and was put off by the sacking trend and inability to allow any manager time to build something.
Windlespur
Sherwood is the new Pleat. Neither can pronounce a foreign name. Or many British one's, at that.
jerkinmahjurgen
Fanny Venables was just ahead of his time, he knew how much managers should have been paid........

Italian, no I don't think he quit because he couldn't handle Levy, I think he quit because he had just seen his team lose 11-0 over two matches against the teams he was supposed to be challenging. Sherwood has done better than him as well, haha, kinda ruins your arguement..... Fact is though mate we need a proper manager none AVBoring or Trainee Sherwood.

Anyone need more evidence europa league is a hinderance check out La Liga, Athletic Bilbao didn't qualify for any europe competition last season and now they are just about to get the 4th spanish champions league place, one win away.
T.H.F.Chris
What's wrong with frank de Boer? or is he too expensive for us?....we already have two of his Ajax players..Verts and Eriksen...knows how to win as a player and coach...can integrate players, play with style etc ...and he'd be a project and we just love a project...well Levy does...
shedboy2
We don't know why AVB left....and I don't think we ever will, the settlement agreements won't allow it. Supporters trust never got the statement they asked for from the club....do the board really deserve any support?

ItalianYiddo
Yes Shedboy absolute contempt for us fans. Levy out.

Italian, I have already answered that, firstly they are in a final and 4th, and secondly I am quite happy with Wenger at the scum, just got to pray wigan do us a favour...
T.H.F.Chris
*hull
T.H.F.Chris
Still can't believe people want us out of Europe, as if it's guaranteed that we will get top four without it. Are we guaranteed that two of City, Man U, Man C, Everton, Liverpool, Chelsea are going to make way for us? Did anyone watch the Benfica-Juve game? Great game should have been us playing Juve. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
THF you havent answered it, you said AVB went because of two heavy defeats, Arsenal have had three.
ItalianYiddo
Italian how do you know half the team want away and is the 5.5 players of 12.5? and how did we go out of all cups at the first hurdle?
PJcoys-1882
Two mega defeats, the most boring football since George Graham, not scoring >3 goals in a home league match during his whole tenure, choosing the wrong players when he had £100m to spend, being 7th in the league when 4th is the minimum, and bottling it.

Why do you think he should have stayed,,,, because he needed more time,,,, he was building a terrible team.
T.H.F.Chris
Basically, AVB went.
jerkinmahjurgen
PJ, Capoue, Holby, Paulinho, Sandro, Verts, Llorris that's more than half a team. Capital cup first hurdle, FA cup first hurdle, Europa second hurdle, was on schedule for first hurdle till Verts got one of theirs sent off, they were winning and in control till then.
ItalianYiddo
sorry Italian should have read is that 5.5 players or 12.5 players?
PJcoys-1882
THF are you backtracking on the heavy defeat theory? Three mega defeats for Dimmo and out of all the cups is that better? With AVB we had a good chance of silverware and a strong finish, of course he needed more time half a season with 7+2 players was never going to be enough was it?
ItalianYiddo
but how do you know they want to leave Italian? how can you be sure? you don't know them all or work for the club so you must be summising this from media reports. if you are correct in really knowing this one assumes you are blaming Sherwood. why can it not be the fact that we wont have CL as the reason they would want to leave if in fact they do want to leave? it seems to me you are just making things up because of the deep thing you have for AVB being sacked.
PJcoys-1882
PJ, if you don't relise that those players are unhappy with Dim you must be oblivious to what is going on. Yes, CL will be a factor but those players came to Spurs believing that AVB would get CL, he's now gone and we have a YTS in charge for whom have no respect and it shows.
ItalianYiddo
The deep thing with AVB is believing that we had an opportunity to build something special and Levy pulled the plug, all I wanted was till the end of season to assess, I am sorry but it bugs me.
ItalianYiddo
Jerk, that is it exactly.....Italian were players not playing when AVB was manager happy with AVB? the lack of respect has taken us up one place and done what AVB managed to do in the cups last season, get us knocked out of all cups, so that is one par. At least Sherwood has an excuse for being poor, if indeed he is.
PJcoys-1882
it seems to me Italian from all the things you have said on here today you have a higher opinion of AVB than you do of the club itself
PJcoys-1882
Italian I am not back tracking on anything, if you could read you'd see I already said I blame AVB for buying the players just as much as I blame Tim for the heavy defeats when TIM was in charge,, also I think Tim should go just as much as I was glad AVB should go all be it for slightly different reasons. Get over AVB man, he was shi1, made laughing stock of us and you carry on this stupid persistent arguement bringing in Wenger, non-existent back tracking and soon you'll come out with some other useless nothingness that proves nothing, HE's GONE :)
T.H.F.Chris
We are talking about this season, not last season or the one before, we were in all the cups and four points off top four and eight points off top. Let's stick with facts. If you want opinion I think AVB would have won a cup and finished strongly, obviously we will never know because a football imbecille but good property developer pulled the plug.
ItalianYiddo
I don't have a very high opinion of Levy on football matters, PJ. You are very observant.
ItalianYiddo

no need to say sorry Italian, it's your belief and i respect you for it, it's good to have this sort of chat, so try to see both sides of any issue. ref AVB his got us knocked out of all cups when he had a full season and you know as well as anyone does that the gaps between top and bottom and all things in between increases as the season goes on just like it did last season when AVB had a full season. Clearly a huge factor this season was that rather large mistake made in the summer window and yes that must have hampered whoever was to be manager this season.
PJcoys-1882
THF, he's definetily gone but please explain how he made us a laughing stock. The stupid argument with Wenger is because you stated that AVB went because of the heavy defeats and I asked you if on that basis he should have gone too. If you make stupid statements you need to back them up.
ItalianYiddo
AVB had to go. It was reported all over the place that he was telling the back four to play high on lines all the time. Can we have a manager that wants our players playing high on lines all the time. Surely that's not a good training regime. Cocaine kills, no?
Falstaff the Fool
Oh, sorry. He wasn't asking them to play high on lines all the time but to play a high line? That doesn't have anything to do with playing high? My bad. Never mind.
Falstaff the Fool
But what's Timmy saying about playing high all the time? Is he also telling them to play lines that get them high?
Falstaff the Fool
PJ, Re. the summer signings we don't know who signed who. Did AVB get any of his players? We know he wanted Willan, Hulk and Contreao but they didn't come. Wages, fees, they didn't want to come? Who knows, three or four quality players may have been better.
ItalianYiddo
Italian, we know he wanted Willian, but Chelsea offered CL something we failed to qualify for the season before after being in such a strong postion due to a very bad second half of the season, ie not a strong end, Bale did he best but apart from him it was a rank poor second half or last third of the season. but how do we know he wanted the other two? and if AVB was such a big draw, as you say why didn't they come? For sure we dont really understand who had the final say, my understanding based on what Les Ferdinand said was that is was a buying committee of three AVB LEVY AND BALDINI each had to give the go ahead to buy. whoever made the decision to buy those 7 it sure was going to be tough to get them all playing well this season if at all ever in some cases. Your man had that to deal with which must have been a tough ask.
PJcoys-1882
IY I think it's the way he contradicts everything he says. Eg I don't need any new players, then it's we've got too many players that all play the same position. Then there's the I know players better than anyone but in another breathe claims he doesn't have a clue who capoue is or where he plays. Point being he sounds clueless at times and people look at us and say who on earth is managing.

before anyone says otherwise I teach 12 year old kids in the USA who laugh at me and tell me what a great job he's doing and try to wind me up about the way we play and where we are in the league, along with the old hand bale jokes of course!
Spurschick
Just as much as we don't know what AVB would have achieved if he had seen this season out, we also don't know if Sherwood would have faired even better, if he had started the season and seen it through himself. ;-)
MAN ON!
Just saw the footage of the Redscousers coming to the stadium - they certainly did count the chicken - way before they were hatched .... tut tut tut ...
Highgatespur
PJ, we payed for Willan's medical, we were that close to signing him, Levy messed up. A coach can ask for players that fit his blueprint but the chaiman has to agree terms with players and selling club so ultimately he has the final say. Players will sign for a coach if they believe in them but economics normally rule.
ItalianYiddo
Spurschick, the constant contradictions prove that the more rope you have the better the chances of hanging yourself.
ItalianYiddo
FTF, that's ok as he is only in his 5th month in the job....
Highgatespur
We know he wouldn't have won any silverware Man On, so we can take that out of the equation.
ItalianYiddo
How did Levy mess that up Italian? How could he stopped someone signing for another club if he wanted to?
PJcoys-1882
Italian what did you expect from a manager who had never managed before? I expected him to finish lower than the manager before had us who had managed before.
PJcoys-1882
Because he should have closed the deal sooner, he was ready to sign. He was probably too busy penny pinching.
ItalianYiddo
And talking of pennies I need to make an early start tomorrow trying to earn one or two. A very good night to all. COYS.
ItalianYiddo
you are summising again Italian in this case because you don't like Levy, wasn't Willian stalling because his people were talking to Chelsea?
PJcoys-1882
bye Italian good talking today
PJcoys-1882
Italian I haven't made stupid statements, we lost 6-0 and then 5-0 within about 3 weeks, that is embarressing and the reason he quit. You are doing my head in though man, just trying to pick wholes in what I say when you have nothing to say yourself,, why are you so offended AVB was so shi1, is there any reason you wanted him to stay???
T.H.F.Chris
Just as much as we don't know what AVB would have achieved if he had seen this season out, we also don't know if Sherwood would have faired even better, if he had started the season and seen it through himself. ;-)

Well if the season started when Sherwood took over, we'd be in 4th place right now, 1 point ahead of Everton..
Guyver
weird when you consider how well Everton have done this year and how awful we have, we're only a few points behind them
mattspurs1982
THF, we won't take it any further as it is pointless and yes AVB is so **** that he's currently the 6th highest paid coach in the world....
ItalianYiddo
Guyver, we don't know where we would be if Dim was in charge for the whole season, we know for sure what he done in the cups.
ItalianYiddo
Italian he did the same in the Cups as AVB did last year and harry did before him, he got us knocked out under his tenure. Get over it mate. AVB has gone but THFC goes on, support your club not a has been.
PJcoys-1882
Really dislike watching us play Stoke. However, their game plan was predictable and our defense was good. Cheers for the points, might donate my ticket to another family next timeÖwhich Iíve never done when I can actually make a game. Stoke FC, sort it the **** out. COYS.
SpursOne2
PJ, I was respoding to Guyver's comments on this year's results. I repeat this year, different season, different squad. AVB has gone Dimmo is about to go but facts are facts.
ItalianYiddo
so thats that tims gone...or has he...?

all things considered,he has done ok but like 'arry he shot himself in the foot...or the mouth....and was always on a hiding to nothing as soon as he came out in one of his first press conferences and demanded a 10 year contract or nothing....was he joking or trying to back levy into a corner......everything was ticking along ok til the chelsea defeat.....thats when the idiocy, lack of experience, player alienation started.....i won't go into detail as this has been raked over the coals SO many times.

to his credit he did bring through 2 fringe/young players and got ade firing again (til ade felt he had nothing else to prove as usual).....statistics are a bit of a smoke screen as there were some that weren't so favourable under tim.hopefully he goes to a lower division and learns his trade and becomes a top manager in another 5-8 years..as long as he can keep his arrogance in check. i'd like to say thank you for your service to our club and if you go then best of luck.

good tim:nice bit of banter with the fan.letting him sit in the managers seat to make the fan look like a bit of a fool......bad tim:that 'no they're english' comment on match of the day.....(SIGH!).

have to give gus and tony pulis the respect they deserve....if a fashionable, young glamorous manager did what pulis did at palace, the media would have been all over him....as for gus, it just shows what instilling belief and confidence can do for a team.......that and connor wickham. ...COYS!
