Stoke City Vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Stoke City Vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Charlie Adams! No handshakes for the Stoke number 16 after that Paulinho tackle at WHL and, Sandro is in the squad!

Stoke are looking to reach 50 points for the first time in their Premier League history. Stoke have only lost once in their last eight games and haven't lost a home game since January. As for Spurs, after the Liverpool result, it`s been 2 wins and a comeback draw for us, impressive form Tim!

2 Meter Peter is Stoke`s highest scrorer, a whole eight league goals so far, awesome! Stoke only need eight goals in their next three games to beat their goalscoring record in a Premier League season. Can this article get anymore anal I hear you ask? Yes it can! Peter Odemwingie says Stoke are on a mission to end their season on a high.

They want to set a Britannia Stadium record and Mark Hughes' is looking to claim their highest Premier League points total, best top flight finish in 39 years and first top Midlands club title. And they could also set a new mark for fewest home defeats in a league campaign since moving to their new headquarters back in 1997. Stoke have only lost twice at home so far, they are chasing their best run since Lou Macari's Division Two title-winning side only suffered two home defeats in 1992/93.......and what do all these facts add up to .....10th place!

Meanwhile we are looking to add to our three match unbeaten run and we still have a very slim chance of qualifying for the Europa, oh yes, let`s hear it for Sunday afternoon football.

Unfortunately, we haven't won away from home since January. However, we have scored 11 in our last 3 unbeaten streak although we have conceded five goals as well.

Stoke defender Erik Pieters should be fit to face Tottenham after a Dehli belly against Cardiff.
But Matthew Etherington and Robert Huth remain absent for the Potters. Dawson returns for Tottenham after a hamstring but Jan Vertonghen will not make it. Mousa Dembele is doubtful with an ankle injury, while yes, you guessed it....Etienne Capoue, Kyle Walker and Erik Lamela all remain unavailable for selection. Harry Kane, could start his fourth Premier League game this weekend, and has scored in the last three games, the first player to do so this season for Spurs.
We have won 41 of the last 77 league meetings between us and Stoke. The Potters have won just 19, and we have won three times at the Britannia since Hughes' men gained promotion in 2008. We are their bogey team

Zeki Fryer`s "Stoke are always very good at home this will be a hard game for us" Zeki  Fryers has said that it will be 'difficult to win' when we meet Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this weekend. The defender told the club's website: 'Obviously we conceded in the first half against Fulham in a disappointing manner but overall we were strong and stable as a team. 'Now we go to Stoke, who are a good side. They're a strong team and I know from watching other clubs go there that it's difficult to win there. 'They make it hard for opposing teams so we've got a big challenge at the weekend and we're looking forward to it.'  And so are we Zeki, we can`t wait!

Tell you what Zeki let`s start them off with a 2 goal lead and then let`s play catch up!

Of Course giving away a lead won`t happen next season, not when David Moyes is in charge, he will make sure we morph into mid table mediocrity achieving what Stoke and Evertonachieve! which is? ......Nothing!  However, welcome back Steven Pienaar and hello Fellaini.

Most punters think Stoke will be a bit too strong for a Tottenham team that knows their manager won't be there next season. Actually they will be stronger than us because we know Moyes will be our manager next season!

1st up I don't like Stoke. They don't play football. They're a team of thugs, which brings me to the site poll. Very nice. I vote for options 3 & 4

My 2nd point is I absolutely agree Oy Veh, we do not want a manager in the mold of David Moyes. Levy is simply eying a cheap deal with compensation paid out by Man U rather than him having to pay compensation twice. Once to our current loud mouth and again to whoever's team that comes in

and finally, or thirdly if you like, (for now anyway, until someone else comes on with an opinion and something to comment on), dropped points in games we should have won have well and truly cost us this season. I know that seems like an obvious thing to say and it is, but it's not the hammerings by 'Pool & City, it's not pitching up at Norwich (3 points), only playing 1 half vs Brom, (2 points dropped), those two alone would have put us in the hunt. Add the 1-0 loss to Woolwich, a game we really should have won or at least drawn and we're equal on points with Moyes ex mob and 1 behind the Arse.

My word any more positivity and you'll have to embark on a motivational speaking career. So glad I read this before heading off to the game. Although Moyes fits the Levy mould I just can't see that one happening, surely lightening can't strike twice. Ah well whatever the club will always be the club. In my time I have endured Gross and Graham so it could be worse. COYMS

You have got to think moyes is in the running. For someone so well thought of within the game to be handpicked for the united job just 10 months ago is obviously not suddenly a bad manager - but I see the knives are out for him already! And we wonder why we are not successful! Obviously some sadistic quality about being spurs fans that wants us to fail. Having said that I personally think the game has moved on from the 'moyes type' of philosophy and we need someone who can embrace the new world whilst still instilling the necessary determination and will to succeed, much like martinez (my personal favourite since harry left but we have no chance of getting him now) and rogers this season. If we do end up with moyes at least he will instil some togetherness, teamwork and grit. All things worth getting behind as fans and if we were to keep our awesome squad together who knows how far that could take us.

there is recent bad history between the teams and little or nothing for either side to play for, we could end up with 10 men on the pitch and a loss here, equally we should be able to beat Stoke, they have been good at home of late and I can see trouble brewing here. SRV he has cut his teeth with us, its happened and there's nothing any one on here can do about that, most of the damage for this season was done before him and not by him, most notably with the august window farce. i am not getting so abusively wound up by it/him as so many on here are (not saying you are being abusive) because we are 6th now and were 7th when he took over, out of all the cups now just like we are every season too, that wasn't invented by Sherwood either. Lets hope we can find a way to play well and or win today.

PJ, sherwood is clearly so far out of his depth on almost every level. Not his fault - this is all on levy. You are right it happened and hopefully we can move on from this waste of a season in a couple of weeks. Whether that be with moyes or whoever. Re. Sherwoods stats over such a short time frame you can slice and dice them anyway you want. After the intitial 6 game "new manager bounce" (a time in which by his own admission tim hadnt had the time to work with the players due to xmas, cup fixture etc) the last 13 PL games read won 6, drawn 2 lost 5. Which I suggest given the chaotic nature of the way we are under his 'leadership' would be about right if extrapolated over 2 or 3 seasons. One thing we do have now is the players. We just need a manager.

StillRicky...Spot on mate. The board need to rein in their expectations a little, maybe a little more realism. We need to afford a manager time, as long as we do not flirt with relegation, let's actually give the manager the full control of football and see what he can deliver over a sensible amount of time. Good chance we may take one step back, but every chance we will leap two steps forward after. Time ladies and gentlemen time.

That's the thing, because of previous cock ups and missed opportunities when the chance has presented itself to pounce, the board and some fans expectations have increased borne out of frustration. All IMO of course.

It's one game closer to the end of "The Dim One" ! I'm actually excited for once in the know that Stoke are exactly the team our players want to beat. We know they play shoddy football however credit to MH who has given the whole club a new outlook of some form of pass move and then hoof it to Crouchinio. I think the fire will be in the bellies of our players first off to break that little cunit Adam and secondly there seems to be a stir about a new manager, thirdly WC places up for grabs! One thing is certain we a supremely fortunate to have Erikson playing and the only player worth mentioning regarding the team sheeeet!

Clive...Then my post reads wrong. My point being, let's take AVB as an example. He was not flirting with relegation, however, some branded the football as boring and clueless. Given time, a proper amount of time, who's to say that the style would not have improved and maybe the end of season points tally?.

That is my point in case, do we really give managers long enough to be given a clear enough indication on where they could really take the club?.Whilst not flirting with relegation, what is wrong with actually giving a manager a more realistic time span to see where it leads us.

If I am not mistaken, Redknapp was one of the longer serving managers in recent times, 4th spot if I recall. AVB, 4th spot, less time, could he have kicked the team on given more?. Who knows, and that is exactly my point. Rome wasn't built in a day as the saying goes, Spurs board believe it should be built by lunchtime.

This is not a AVB vs Sherwood argument either, but merely a suggestion that we have gone down the revolving door manager appointment scenario for a number of years now, it has brought some success, but never stability and success, maybe we look at sticking with a manager for the duration of his contract as a bare minimum and see where that takes us as long as relegation is not flirted with.

As for "have expectations reached that high?." Yes, many expect 4th after finishing 5th the previous season, anything less is considered by some as no improvement, it's been said numerous times on this very site. Maybe a step back to actually build something under continued stability from the same manager will allow for us to constantly be in the top 4 as opposed to just having a good crack at it.

Madabout, good to see you posting on here. I know that there has been a lot of negativity on here, and we have wasted another season for wining silverware. We just have to accept Levy's and ENIC handling of THFC. Until the new stadium is built, we can expect more of the same, as over the last 5 years.. So all critical rants by Pele10 and others will not affect Joe Lewis & Levy's bluprint for their business. (THFC) I think they will sell in 2018.

Clive...it's not a theory that I would want, more a thought that if we are to appoint a new manager and give him every chance by standing by him in the long term, would it be impossible to consider that our form may dip somewhat as he works at his philosophy and makes himself familiar with the English game.

It is at this point if it comes to fruition that I say we stick with the programme as long as we are not in danger of relegation. Whilst this dip has not happened of late with manager change, length of time has also not really been afforded to see if we can truly improve current performance and league standing.

Constant manager change sees team unbalance, some fancied, some not, formations and style ever changing. If we appoint a new manager, even if the form dips at the start, I suggest time as opposed to change will serve us better in the long term. All IMO of course, but it did seem to work at Arsenal and Utd. Fergie one goal away from the sack, the rest is history. Think longevity of service will serve us better.

Excellent, excellent post Cider. We can blame Sherwood as much as we want, he's not the problem, the problem is the one that put him there. Another season wasted by the compulsive knee jerking clown, he needs to spend big now on a coach, he has run out of lives and those empty blue seats don't bode well for filling that 60,000 seat stadium.

I've heard talk recently that the stadium is always as full as it could be and also that spurs aren't attracting many youngsters - surely a worrying sign for the board if they're planning (feasibly discussing) this 56k ground. Today I would "like" to see Lloris, Rose, Kaboom, Chiriches, Naughton, Chadli, Sandro, Eriksen, Dembele / Pauline, Lennon, Ade. Our full back options are incredibly limited today, and the available choices are lower prem standard at best. Hoping we get an inspired Ade today, he can make the difference. Eriksen stop playing so bloody well, can see the £££££ in Levy's eyes!!

Italian as a club we have improved in every way under the tenure of ENIC /LEVY, we have improved league position against the period before ENIC arrived, we have a better squad, better team, better results in general, we turn over more money, we make more profit, our value as a club is higher, our training facilities are much better, the only thing not to improve is the number of seats in our stadium. We could cite the recruitment of management as an area Levy could improve for the good of the club. We all want more, I do, but want to remain balanced and not fuelled on emotion which just leads to these constant witch hunts on here. Has ENIC taken us as far as it can? well quite possibly yes because the football landscape has changed since it took us over. Balance.

PJ...Yes!. I agree Enic as a whole have improved the club. I also believe that apart from ploughing vast sums of new money into the club, they have most probably levelled out with regards to where they can take us. The one last thing I would like Enic and Co to do, is to give us a decent manager who is afforded time and see where that takes us. It might just bridge that last little step to allow us to secure top 4 on a more regular basis. It might not, but it has not really been tried under their leadership.

Cider .... I was of the same opinion re AVB and the rest of the season at least. We don't really know what actually happened for him to have to leave. Just asking but would you like TS to be given 2 or 3 seasons at the club in charge of the first team squad? You'll get no argument from me either way, I've already said my piece on him. Giving any manager time to achieve his goal seems to be very anti Spurs fans and ownership. This board is possibly the best Vital board for comment and I would hazard a guess the worst for berating manager/player/owner or other fans on it. Can't keep everybody happy all the time or on here can't keep the majority happy any of the time. lol. All in my humble opinion of course. COYS

PJ its all relative. When ENIC took over ok we had had a number of managerial catastrophes which had left our on field product and hence league position pretty poor. But off the field compared to our rivals we were in there in the mix. Similar revenues and size of stadium as Arsenal. Chelsea in massive debt. We were 2nd only to man utd in terms of operating profit from the PL inception to when ENIC tookover. Fast forward 14 years and our rivals are on a different planet to us financially whether it be through foreign ownership, astute managerial appointments or new stadiums. We are now far far behind. To the extent even West Ham are now coming up fast on the rails once the OS is up and running. Yes, ENIC have rode the PL gravy train and built a bigger and better club on an off the pitch. But relative to who we should be considering our rivals we have lost out big time. And thats not even mentioning the titles, trophies won and CL experiences of our rivals in ENICs time compared to our solitary league cup and CL run.

longtime...I'll twist your question somewhat if I may. If Sherwood led this team to 3rd this season with a record points haul, but still made silly comments. Would as many still be looking for him to be sacked, or would they accept that is who he is whether right or wrong, but he took us where we wanted to be?.

In answer to your question, I have a few concerns relating to Sherwood's formation and team selection at times, however, many fans can say the same of their own team at times. What worries me is his lack of professionalism regarding his comments. Some are not needed, some may well have a detrimental effect on the team or player. If I were to base it on football alone, I'd give him a chance as much as the next unproven, would he be my 1st choice?. No.

The fact now we dont even consider the likes of chelsea and arsenal as "rivals" in a financial sense anymore shows how far we have regressed compared to them in the last 14 years. That simply wasnt the case in the late 90s. We had more money than them! If West ham over take us in the next 3 or 4 years it may well be ENICs parting gift - to leave us as the 4th team in london. Thank god redknapp is mis-managing QPRs money it could be worse!

Excatly SRV, the footballing landscape has changed so much in the 14 years. Its easy to find an angle to be negative, it's also sad if it dictates.

@cider spurs.....i made a very similar post a few seasons ago about taking 1 step back and 2 steps forward,so i totally agree with you on this......the trouble is that most fans don't see it like this.i do feel that this was our 1-step-back season with AVB in relation to our 'long term project'....young manager, with a bit of longevity in him.new players to bed in,getting rid of all/most of players who were on their last legs or not good enough....i really do feel that this was the season for this to happen but it takes backing/support from the powers that be and the fans.

liverpool have taken a few seasons to get where they are now,man u are going through the same 1-step-back period(not sure if the fans or the board will have the patience for it).....we,(the fans, the board and the owners/shareholder/directors),have to be realistic and not EXPECT top 4 regardless of the circumstances......this should give us a platform to build on for the future.(hope springs eternal). finally got my username back!!!

PJ, ENIC have had control over that landscape! ENIC have not increased our capacity once in 14 years - Arsenal HAVE achieved that. ENIC have been pretty average at best in their managerial appointments - Arsenal got their man and stuck with him. ENIC have been unwilling to invest their own money or source new owners with the means to get us in the mix - Chelsea and now City have done that and left us trailing. And now Levys botched attempt at the OS has left West Ham with a clear run to over take us in the next 3-5 years. All things that ENIC have had control over. They have ridden the explosion in worldwide popularity and commercial revenue of the PL ill give them that. Of course we have more revenue and have better players than 14 years ago but so does everyone else! Not a great achievement in itself.
