'If It's Football, It's Vital'

….on the bright side…

It has been one of those seasons where you couldn't wait for it to finish. Personally I can`t remember when was the last time I looked forward to the finish line so much.

When looking back at the season from August 2013 - there have been so many incidents at the clubs that we probably could fill up a volume of an encyclopedia or two ….

We have heard plenty of them on this forum and elsewhere. However venturing into an exercise of 'appreciative inquiry` - what have been the highlights of this season for us?

My highlights have been: Paulinho`s winner in injury time v Cardiff; Soldado`s goal at Aston Villa. The comeback win v Dnipro, the win at Old Trafford and Holby`s last second winner v Fulham.

But the lasting memory of the season for me would be the camaraderie and the sense of humour, in many hours of disbelief and dejection, in being part of the away support. COYMS!!!!

So as we consign the season into the history books - what would be your five memorable moments of the season?

Have to say I'm impressed Highgate. Beneath your post it states that you wrote the article and gives tomorrows date and time at 8.00 a.m very impressive, time travel also. Who we signing?, who's the manager?.
cider spurs
1. Although losing, the 31 shots and peppering of Krul's goal against Newcastle at the lane.

2. Beating Utd at Old Trafford on New year's day.

3. Soldado's assist from out on the Left for Ade's goal against Southampton.

4. Eriksens free kick against W.Brom, and pretty much everything Eriksen does. His free kicks, crosses, awareness and dead ball delivery.

How we managed to turn the season into a laughing stock on what should have been a bright new dawn.
cider spurs
Sorry!. Have to remember the bad times to enjoy the good.

Nice article topic Highgate and sterling effort Cider - that is quite a roll of posts. My top 5 moments are all the same. Despite the season being distinctly average on the pitch we still managed to qualify for the EL. At least we'll increase our exposure across Europe and hopefully manage to keep one or two extra players and attract a better manager and one or two better players. The only piece of outstanding quality I saw on the pitch was Paulinho's volleyed back heel pass (I can't remember against who). It was class but unfortunately didn't quite result in anything significant. The story of our season.
SpuriousLife
It has been a strange season for most clubs really, not just us. WBA stay up, yet sack their manager anyway. Man C were dead certs for title, then Chelsea, then Liverpool, the Man C again - even Arsenal were in with a good chance, but no one really believed that they had the squad to stay there. Man U were not too far off 4th place contention not to long ago, but then really fell away. Everton nearly nicked 4th too, but failed near the end too. Palace were dead certs for drop, but then looked safe months ago. Liverpool fans would have bitten you arm off to finish second at the start of the season, now they are well gutted. West Ham fans hated the football, but big Sam is keeping them up. To me, the only teams to be really chuffed with the season must be Man C, Palace, Hull, Stoke (highest EPL finish?). When the dust settles, Liverpool & Everton fans will be happy. Alas unless Hull do the Lord's work, Arsenal should FINALLY get a trophy and ultimately gooners should be contented with that too. If I am going to be cruel, I could say that the sacking of AVB could have been a highlight - because Spurs were heading in the wrong direction and that started the change. We just need to complete the change of direction.
TonyRich
1) 6th in the toughest league in Europe. 2) Qualified for the EL again. 3) Good run in the EL, beaten by a very good Benfica side. 4) Great away record for the season (historically our Achilles Heel). 5) Bloodied some young players with great potential.
Geofspurs
Cider ... Congratulations, that was some roll you were on!
Geofspurs
Some good positive thoughts there Geofspurs. As someone else mentioned, I would add simply "Eriksen". We need to build our team around him. The guy has the right attitude on top of vision and skill and technique.
TonyRich
This article was actually available to view on the forum from yesterday tea time. However, for some reason it did not feature where the rest of our front page articles do, although it is a front page article. Cider being the fair playing sport that he is...took the opportunity to abuse this confusion to the Max!.
cider spurs
Thanks PJ!.
cider spurs
So did any of you guys meet up pre or post game?.

Sandro's rocket, Soldado's emotional open play goal, Lloris spectacular saves and top class positioning and seeing Eriksen showing his potential at Spurs. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
1) Beating United away on New Years Day, watching it in a quiet Somerset pub with my United-loving brother-in-law 2) Those 5 minutes against Benfica when I thought we might actually do it, especially when Kane went down 3) The first 45 minutes of the home game against Chelsea, where we played like world beaters (I think we may have actually been top of the table for a bit?), 4) Eriksen's free kick against Dnipro. 5) Sandro's 'I'm coming to get you Charlie Adams!
Sebastian Short
Tony ... I agree, that makes 6; just gets better and better!
Geofspurs
bright side??? we ended up 6th, in the EL next year, TS realising at last game that Sandro is needed, Lloris' saves, Eriksen's ability, have a really good squad for next season. Just need the right manager and a couple of tweeks. COYS

Good effort Cider! doubt that will be beaten!
Highgate, thanks for the article. a few of us discussed recently how un-memorable the season has been on the pitch, yet how memorable it has been off the pitch, for all the wrong reasons.
I think if I try to recall the high points of the season, that got me excited, or jumping out of my seat, they would be as follows:
1)after the expected news of Bale leaving, the delight at watching the news filter through of our 7 new signings, potential world class players with heftier price tags than we have been used to.
2)Sandro's magnificent goal
3) Eriksens free kicks
4)Robbie's 2 touch volley v Cardiff
5)The fight back V Dnipro and getting so close to the goal we needed for the next round qualification in the EL.

I'll add 5 low points on the pitch also.1)not getting to see all the new players playing at once all season in their right positions
2) Home game V Dnipro. leading to my biggest disappointment of not getting to Turin
3)Losing to Arsenal in the FA Cup, and the Walnut Jibe
4)Soldado getting dropped after regaining confidence after the goal V Cardiff.
5) Team sheets and formations in every game since Jan, which all led to sighs of dismay on my part. Great night last night, back in the Emerald Isle now, sorry I didn't see any of you, was with a big group and we didn't leave the Irish Centre before the game. Next time God willing! what an atmosphere, what a great round off to what has been a thoroughly underwhelming season. LONG LIVE THE KING! WE LOVE YOU LEDLEY, WE DO!
Dublin Hotspur
Looking on the bright side..... I rather liked Tim. He made me smile.
MAN ON!
I liked the fact that TS echoed what so many of us fans have been thinking. The honesty was refreshing. I echo Geofspurs for the other best bits. Oh, and the world is still turning through it's axis. That's always a positive thing.... Ledley for Prime Minister and, the alternative winner of Britains got talent? It has to be Ledley again. No choice. Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
The Euro' was good while it lasted. Poland should have won it though, IMO, hands down! Keep yer peckers up, Warsaw here we come!
MAN ON!
Agree man on!
Dublin Hotspur
Well done Cider on the record .... like your counting skills!!!!
Highgatespur
Spurious, I do remember that - think it was against a low profile club - WBA ? Norwich ?
Highgatespur
TonyRich, Here's hoping Lord does His work with Hull.
Highgatespur
Nice thinking Geof ...

Thanks for the compliment Spurious - I always find it intriguing that e all watch the same 90 minutes yet come out with so many differing point .... makes the world go around I suppose!!! LTS, Think the highlight mentioned last might be achieved!!! Here's hoping Thanks Dublin, pretty much agree with highs - feet didn't touch the ground last summer, as I recall. Lows -Dnipro ? Surely Benica ... "What team sheet" ? I think that was said a lot around WHL...

I went to the Irish centre last night around 6 but couldn't park anywhere didn't think the CPZ extended that far... went to Pride for a while ... then the headache set in... I thoroughly enjoyed the game interesting seeing the youngsters... maybe next time ... Loved the mexican wave!!!!
Highgatespur
Man On! It looks like Boris will be backing Ledley for PM should he decide... the way he spoke about Ledley last night.... Lammy's woeful penalty .... he should donate the £500 himself!!!
Highgatespur
Highgatespur. Hey, you're talking to me..... It was a great night last night. I loved every minute of it and, yes it was emotional. I did shed a tear or two, I have to admit. I'm a sentimental old fool you know. Abrasive sometimes but soft as poop!
MAN ON!
Highgate, we were in the ballroom round a big table near the stage! Should have shouted out! You can park in there for a fiver I think, good spot pre match, lots of away fans too so good banter! Of course I meant benfica!! Doh!
Dublin Hotspur
Loved holtbys tackle on the ref, then his push on Lewis! We were in stitches! Great fun night! Teddy and Edgar still have it!
Dublin Hotspur
Chivers banging in the rebound! He's still got it. ;-) I thought he wasn't gonna give up that brolly.
MAN ON!
Man On! Yup as long you don't say you're Topho... I'm convinced you are not now.... that's a surprise to hear of your reaction about last night; I thought it was the opposite.... it was truly brilliant ... we needed to lift our spirits... Loved the Big Chiv bit - hopefully the young uns were watching as to how to interact .... I also thought he was going to hold onto the umbrella but there's only one man with the brolly!!!
Highgatespur
Dublin, I did convince one of the parking people to park for a minute to see if you were still in there... I joined in with the laughter when I asked "I'm looking for a man who's come from Dublin!" Can you imagine ?!!!! Duh!!! I didn't want to expand as to where we know of each other next and as for the look on the guy's face when I responded to question of your name... Quick turn and ran!!! LOL ... Definitely a doh moment!!! next time... definitely... Brilliant to hear the love for Lewis... great tackle and Webb - wow - just wait till the next game he is at lane, "You know you are Spurs and you know you are ...." The clapping at 26 minutes was a jewel touch!!! I thought Edgar was going to thump Younis!!! He kept his fitness up hasn't he ? Fitter than Younis I'd ay... Brilliant night .... relief returned perhaps in hindsight!!!
Highgatespur
Laughing my fecking arse off highgate! I can just picture that scenario, in the Irish centre, looking for dublin hotspur. Conor is the name btw!
Dublin Hotspur
I was in there, asking for an Irish Spurs fan, who loves a wee drop of mature and very expensive Irish whiskey. I was told there's nothing expensive about the motley crew we get in here!
MAN ON!
Where was Lennon last night?
MAN ON!
Dublin, It was 'cracker' as they say... I even said I think his son's name is Conor!!! I think that induced the headache!! Tankfully I wasn't arrested!!! Next time man next time!!!
Highgatespur
Azza had to start his holiday two weeks ago - he was tired after all the huffing and puffing he had done this year!!! Seriously quite a few strange non appearances last night.
Highgatespur
Lolol man on!
Dublin Hotspur
Alfie!
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin Hotspur.... Next time you're in London you'd be more than a welcomed guest. You know, I have more family in your neck of the woods than I do in London........
MAN ON!
Well, I'll be over in the summer lads and we should organise something, tottenham on match day is needle in a haystack! Highgate, Hampstead or finchley be good!
Dublin Hotspur
I also cook a mean curry. I do.
MAN ON!
You are on - Dublin ... anywhere will do ... it was a nightmare especially with my questions!!! Hope your family's keeping well....
Highgatespur
I love a good curry me! Could be a good night out lads!
