'If It's Football, It's Vital'

End of term report.

The domestic season is finally over. This gives us a chance to look back at the players over the last season. Who deserves to stay? Who needs to go and who deserves another chance.

No doubt our outstanding player was Eriksen. I think he should be the fulcrum of our team. Lloris is world class, no doubt about it and although Verts didn't have as good a season as his first, we have seen his quality.

That is essentially the spine of the team, but who is good enough to compliment them? I don't want this to become an article about who we can buy and at what price, rather discuss if you feel someone should stay, go or get another chance.

For me the stays are; Lloris, Verts, Walker, Fryers, Eriksen, Sandro. Deserve another chance; Capoue, Holtby, Vlad, Dembele, Lennon, Lamela, Townsend, Soldado, Bentaleb.

Should not be seen in a Spurs shirt again; Rose, Dawson, Kaboul, Naughton, Paulinho, Siggi, Chadli, Ade. Rose, Dawson, Kaboul and Siggi are just not good enough for me. Naughton is not going to get any better and Fredericks is waiting and deserves a chance.

Paulinho was a luxury buy and hasn't offered enough for me. Chadli, why? he does not offer more than Lennon or Townsend. Ade, the enigma? I just can't see him putting in another season of hard graft. Soldado, if we got a worthwhile offer for him, let him go, but we didn't play to his strengths.

Dembele needs to pull his finger out and show he is top class. Lennon seems to be getting worse but we know how good he can be. Townsend also needs to show he is not a 1 game wonder.

Lamela needs a run in the team to show what he can do. Vlad, I think with the right coaching could be a very good player. Holtby has the right mentality, I think he deserves a chance.

You might agree with me or not, so feel free to discuss. COYS!

OUT: Sandro. Vertonghen. Lamela. Soldado. Paulinho. Chadli. Capoue. Holtby. Kaboul. Sherwood. Levy. Lewis. The tea lady. The young girl who made me wait forever at half time for a beer, gave me the wrong one then, short-changed me.

IN: Anyone who can be bothered really. Or maybe half a dozen young guys from around the world, with potential, who then fail miserably to get us into the CL but, then want out because they want to play in the CL! (With another club and for more money)!

End of term report. And the teacher said: This student tried hard all term but failed to live up to expectations due to a lack of organisation in his work and an inconsistency in submitting his weekly assignments on time. He is easily distracted from his class work and one teacher has commented that he needs to adopt a more team-like attitude when working on projects with other students. I believe this studentís final form position (6th out of 20) could be improved with a bit more dedication and hard work. I am looking forward to a much greater effort next term and hope that the early promise displayed by him will be realised. Victor Soddit, Principal.

Those to go. Danny rose,Livermore, Townsend, Lennon, naughton, ade. Core squad. Lloris, walker, verts, vlad, sandro, Pauli, capoue, eriksen, lamela, Robbie. Another chance for everyone else! 3 or 4 In!
Dublin Hotspur
I'd really like to see more of Fredericks; he performed very well during his sub appearance in Europa. I'd have to re-watch the match but I seem to remember him playing very composed and delivering crosses of a quality that Walker, Naughton, etc do not seem to have.
O'Brien
None of the players signed in the past four windows should be allowed to leave. Frankly, we just went through a season of injury and new faces. There are a few problem areas but I would be reluctant to buy anyone unless the deal is right. There are some obvious sales (Livermore) and players that obviously need to be loaned out (Bentaleb). Young players need to play and we have a lot of senior players. Nothing can be done until the new manager is in place. Seems none are throwing their toys out of the pram so the new manager should be able to make his own assessment. WC players are unlikely to be in camp early. We still don't have a manager and the WC is about to start. I'm sure we'll have some answers by August 31. COYS

I'd rather have Livermore than Paulinho. At least he can be bothered.... Me, at Tottenham, a classy Brazilian? Face? Bovvered? I ain't even Bovvered, though. World cup in Brazil? Am I Bovvered? Premier League? I ain't even bovvered!

Problem being, IMO we need shot of a fair few players, end result means recruiting plenty. We all know where that got us. Anyway, seeming you ask vicspur...here goes.

I will state whom I feel should be moved on as opposed to both stay and go.

Dembele...Good at tackling, and beating a man. Offers nothing else, nor do I think he would ahead of Lamela, Chadli, or Eriksen if played in AM/10 role.

Naughton...average RB, never really challenging Walker, something I want squad players to do, push those in the starting berths.

Dawson...Heart of a lion does not win matches or stop goals against. Far too slow, and limited ability, nice guy, but nice guys don't always win.

Kaboul...Great when at his best, but the inability to stay fit means he is always struggling to get back, this alone results in us being light at the back (Capoue vs Liverpool) and also takes a valuable squad place with no return.

Rose...He has had it tough, no real aid to his role in the shape of a LW, however, he does come across as petulant, and appears to have learnt very little this season. Fryers for me a better back up to a new shiny LB.

Lennon...No longer utilises his main attribute anymore. Pace was his game, he is just a wide defensive mid now. Not enough attacking prowess anymore.

Ade...harsh maybe, but we cannot take chances on a player once more becoming slack when he chooses. Has performed well for spurs in the main quite well, but he can be a disruptive influence and lacks interest when not feeling the love. Sherwood got the best out of him because he let him do his own thing, it's when Ade feels secondary to the plans as opposed to the man when the problems occur. (Vert's can be put in this category, based on his tantrums at times this season, however Ade has displayed this behaviour at many clubs prior to Spurs).

Siggy...Squad player, but not really sure where he'll fit in. Could have been a quality AM/10, same as many, little time in preferred position to judge.

I'd keep all the new signings, I don't think they have actually been the main problem, more the old guard not performing. Far too many mediocre players, playing far too many first team games for Spurs, for far too long. We quickly sell our best talent but seem to retain the mediocre.

I think it has been hard to judge the new signings, mainly because they have been played out of position and/or played roles that sees them having to concentrate on more than one element in game.

Last game of the season Paulinho looked much better once more alongside a DM in Sandro. Instead of a pairing with Dembele or Siggy or whoever, he was able to concentrate on the attacking element of his game. Chadli, whilst can play Left, is not an out and out winger, I believe he would be excellent in a central attacking role, hardly seen however. Eriksen performed well from the Left, he'll be mustard centrally, Soldado will benefit no end. Lamela, again will come good IMO, we've a good one there make no mistake. Chiriches, although looking shaky at times actually rads the game well. He has the attributes to become a great defeneder. As for Capoue, he'smy dark horse for a very influential player next season. many love Sandro, give Capoue a run of games in his best position, I think he'll far outweigh Sandro in terms of effectiveness.

So there we have it, quite a few out by my thinking, with all the players we have who can play AM, maybe selling Dembele and signing a deep lying playmaker would be the way forward?.

Tarkan, yes! Unfortunately they don't cut it! Use the youth as homegrown or accept the fines unless we can replace some! That's my thoughts, all crap or nearly crap last season! Except ade, of course, but he needs to go anyway.
Dublin Hotspur
What's the point of having British players or managers if they are no good? Just because they wave the flag? No not for me!
Dublin Hotspur
Cider ... I donít really disagree with any of your suggestions except Iíd keep Ade until January as I think he did enough last season to be given a bit longer to prove himself, one way or the other.
Geofspurs
By the way tarkan, I wasn't looking at it in British / non British context! I was looking at it in performance or potential perspective! We shed our talent and keep these boys we go down the table rapidly!
Dublin Hotspur
Geof...Yes. Ade as usual is a hard one to call. Always been the case, and he deserves credit for his input this season. That said, all good businesses minimize risk, attitude wise, can we label Ade as risk free?. I can handle below par performances from all players, it happens, but the reasons behind mediocre performances has to be factored in when considering suitability IMO.
Cider spurs
Cider, almost agree word for word on your suggestions... Dembele - I'm totally undecided on the fella... tbh i never saw what the others saw in the first place... he does seem to laborious and never seems to attack 'full on' but whenever he does attack full on he does ok - only wish he'd do that more often... totally totally agree with you on Fryers... Good one !
Highgatespur
there's no logic in any of this. Cull 7-8 players? How on earth some people think is beyond me. The only way this can happen is if we do a qpr. A senseless article considering we don't have a manager and every player barring Erikson and Lloris played sheit!
Mix26
Dublin, thats a question I always end up asking ....
Highgatespur
mix-i would add adebayor to that list
tarkan mardinCOYS
Geof, I don't think EA needs any time to prove himself... I think he is the epitome of the marmite effect... like/rate him or you don't... He's proven in all that he does...
Highgatespur
If most of our problems this season were down to the two guys in charge and, not really the fault of the players, then how can we in turn be for or against any of them? Surely it was all down to tactical ineptitude and because of a lack of adequate football knowledge, badges and poor man-management skills.
MAN ON!
Cider .... But I would argue that his performance, when compared to most other team members, was not mediocre. If it was then, by the same standard, many of the players we probably want to keep should also go. I just think he had a weird start to the season, but we would have had a few less points without his goals ... particularly as goals were so hard to come by! Iím not a great fan of his, yet, but I do think the fair thing to do is give him a chance to prove heís turned an attitude corner.
Geofspurs
Dublin: Who are all the foreign players that upstaged the British ones? Eriksen and Lloris maybe?
MAN ON!
Mix26, I think we are in midst of the silly season .... was thinking of 'by the end of the season' scenario... it seems very silly for Dan Levy to keep us hanging on like this ... surely a decision has been made...
Highgatespur
Mix...My post is more to do with back up to starters. I do believe however that starting berth wise we need a LW/LWF...LB...CB(Chiriches to be challenged from the off) and a CF.

Saurez or Ade? Not who's the best player but, who is the most evil of the two?
MAN ON!
WHLN17london, every Spurs fan has a diiffferent opinion so I don't expect 100% agreement on 100% things - it's a poll thing or anything ...

BUT I am confused ... I never saw your poster name until recently and you told me that you never had a different name a few days ago ... I'm confused but please don't be concerned, it's only me.
Highgatespur
Sorry Geof. I was not talking about this season regarding Ade. If he can continue to replicate this seasons exploits i have no problem. My statement was purely based on Ade's ability to lose interest at varying stages throughout his career regardless of club. This is my concern, not last seasons ability and input, but more the risk of his bothered not raising it's head once more. Imagine this a month into the new season. Ouch!. Dilemna indeed.
Cider spurs
No contest Man On! Saurez - but not bothered by him he's not a Spurs player!!!
Highgatespur
Man on, didn't say anyone upstaged anyone. Potential is the key.
WHL, we don't need to buy 7. We have plenty of youth and squad players to fill the outs, we only need 3 or 4!
I though you were new on here?
Dublin Hotspur
I'm not sure why a so called 'better' player is given more respect than a so called 'lesser skilled' player, if he's played crap. If one is doing his best and another is not really trying, then my choice will be the 'trier' every time, regardless of his perceived talent. (The greatest centre forward you've ever seen in a Spurs shirt would be a complete waste of time if, he ain't scoring goals)! Blah, blah!
MAN ON!
Hypothetically I think we all see areas of concern and I would rather push for a new player in that position ie LB and see if Danny or Fryers steps up to challenge. We need a striker (5 years later) of that i am sure but its impossible to cull these players and especially the ones who have been purchased a year ago.
Mix26
Potential don't mean nothing if it's never realised. I prefer hard work myself. Bale got where he is today, not because of his obvious potential but through sheer hard work and a never-say-die attitude. Bentley had potential but was happy to sit on his backside and just fantasise about being the next Beckham.
MAN ON!
Mix26, I really don't want a cull, a manager in place or not, I think 3/4 players in at the most... a lot of the fringes do need to go in the near future.
Highgatespur
I know you didn't Dublin. I said it....
MAN ON!
Whilst I agree that we could promote youth or have plenty of cover in certain areas so no need to recruit lots of players. I have to remind myself of the standard of player who has to come in and how at Spurs these players often play way more games than would be ideal. Last seasons injuries being a good pointer.

I understand we are not going to have for top 4 quality waiting in the wings as back up, heck we struggle enough trying to get enough to play for the first chosen 11. however, that statement alone should tell a thousand words. With numerous first 11 players maybe considered not good enough, what kind of standard do you think comes in when injuries and suspensions occur?. Far too many playing far too many games who are not at the standard required. Add 3-4 for 1st 11 starting berth, then I suggest upgrading the back up, this most certainly has cost us long term. Whilst we can do nothing about injuries, we can offset by making sure we have the best possible replacement to come in, something I feel that has let us down.
Cider spurs
Cider, I think the philosophy that the man brings will be instrumental in few matters ... so I wait... but I do say that last season was a write off and shouldn't be used as a yardstick....
Highgatespur
Ok man on, but you did ask the question which I read as asking for me to justify my point. Prob wrong on that. Apologies!. I did see plenty of potential in the new signings, lamela and Robbie included with their bizarre circumstances. I saw static or decline from the lads I highlighted. One season in! Look at luka and bale now! Potential is key.
Dublin Hotspur
Highgate agreed and in principle we need to sell 3-4 players but it's much easier said then done considering how poor some have been. Rose and Livermore could go to a PL team but Dawson, Naughton, BAE I'm not sure. Players who could easily be sold Ade, Soldado, Chadli, Lennon, Kaboul. I dont think we want to sell such quality to be frank.
Mix26
I think Kaboul, Rose and lennon could go without much negative impact ....

tarkan mardinCOYS
So we are saying Ade should be sold because he was frozen out (for what ever reason) untilt he new guy came in, he then scored regular, set-up goals and certainly work hard. But Soldado should be kept because he couldn't score from open play, didn't look bothered half the tiem and offered very little else to teh overall team performance and then was frozen out byt he new manager (for what ever reason). The reason Ade should be moved on? because he probably wouldn't put in another seaosn of effort! The reason soldado should be kept? because he probably coouldn't but in as bad a performance as last season! By my reading both should really be kept and remove a striker from the shopping list!
Slurms McKenzie
Everyone calm down. The only critical thing is to get a good manager with a winning mentality. Not sure Poch is the right man - I'd go for de Boer if I had the chance. That said, the same group of players will play a lot better next year regardless after a decent pre-season - look at Liverpool this year compared to last - I used to laugh at Skyrtel, Henderson and Sturridge in 2013. At MOST we need cover for RB and LB to ensure we can complete in EL as well as PL. Maybe another striker and I'd definitely re-sign Caulker if we had the chance. As to the rest - how many midfielders do we really need???
johnd0001
I`m with Dublin Hotspur on who & who stays

Good old Tottenham. Always a day late and a dollar short. I don't see next season being any different. It needs Joe Lewis to put his hand in his pocket for the next couple of seasons if we are going to be a real top four team, otherwise we will always be the bridesmaid and never the bride.... Here's hoping.
pratts bottom
I'm as calm as calm can be john.... In fact I'm so laid back that next season, even though I'll be at WHL for most matches, I'll not be bothered to really show my support unless the players can be asked to give a monkey themselves... Stop pulling down the oppositions shorts lads and pull yer bloody socks up.
MAN ON!
Of our midfield I would rank them as follow: Sandro even after a poor season! Eriksen proved with time that he is awesome. Paulinho but not as a holding or defensive midfielder. Capoue is only a holding midfielder not a defender and decent back up to Sandro or as an extra DMF when we are afraid of being over run. Dembele not quite sure what he is, I know he is not a defensive midfileder I also know he is not an attacking midfielder I think he is just a more mobile version of Siggi neither should be kept and both should be sold or sell siggi and use Dembele as a utility/cover player. Holtby not really convinced he knows what he is perhaps as a back up to Eriksen he might have some merit but he hardly lit up craven cottage! Townsend prehaps needs another loan to a prem team to see does he actually have what it takes, very raw and poor decsion making. Lennon should be kept maybe not a first teamer but an impressive option from the bench and a long term servent of the club. Chadli - just hang a for sale sign round his neck and park him on the side of the road. Livermore is gone already. Caroll let him have another seaosn at QPR playing against footballers and not knuckle dragging thugs in the championship. Lamela I can't honestly say, showed more guile and craft then Townsend in his few brief appearances so fix him and keep him.

Middle of the pitch is fairly okay. Sandro/Capoue as DMF, Paulinho, Demble, Bentableb as more attacking midfileders, Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby as AMF. that would mean we are lacking three wingers from the squad if Lennon is our back-up right winger. I think its too soon for McEvoy to make the leap to the first team squad would like him to get a years loan to a prem team. Strange how we were also two wingers short before we sold Bale...
Slurms McKenzie
I'm with you Man-on (and will also be there for most games next year having forked out for another year's season ticket). I don't really mind about them pulling the opposition's shorts down (although it is a bit questionable) - just want them to show some spirit. The worst thing this season was just giving up against Citeh, Liverpool and Chelski away. We can't have that. Anyway, how about Lamela for 25 goals next season? COYS
johnd0001
johnd0001. That would be nice but I have the feeling that Lamela will be gone. I hope not.
MAN ON!
Defensively. Walker is more of a LWB then a LB, Noughton is steady if not spectacular cover so I don't really see an urgent need to chop and change there. Vertonghen is the only Cb I can make a case for and even that comes with the health warning of last season. Dawson as a number four Cb yea but then had we not been ruined by injuries he probably would have been that anyway. Kaboul has been poor since his return and I don't see any signs of a return to his best form. Chiriches biggest accomplishment was to make Dawson look like a competent defender - when he was playing instead of Dawson. Woeful, positioning, woeful reading of the game and desperate lunges for the ball are not the ingredents of a top CB. Okay season of upheavel and unsettled CB partner and rarely played behind a proper DMF but still weak. Fryers - thaught we'd see more of him as the season wore on but he has struggled to break through even with a very weak if petulent Rose is ahead of him. In fact I think Rose might have been more use to us deployed as a left winger then as a LB.

So I guess that means Kaboul out, Rose out, Chiriches gets to stay because of reasons stated and Dawson as fourth or even fifth choice if we promote one of the youth CBs. A proper LB is our number one priority and a proper right footed CB.
Slurms McKenzie
Johnd - I'd say thats a fair bet if we sell him!!
Slurms McKenzie

The reality is that our midfield is overbloated with similar kinds of players and there is zero room to give any of our exciting youngsters a game now and then. We lack quality, I think that is something we all can agree. Therefore to get quality we need to get sell quite a few players to make room improvements. I am biased to who to keep or sell. Glad that I am not making these decisions. Our priority should be at getting a quality leftback and a leftwinger.
Jables
Jables I don't think our problems where because we had too many similar players I think it was more to do with having too many injured players! Yes we are unbalanced on the left wing verses the CM but we could have used a fit Townsend on that side, moved Rose forward if Fryers and verts and Chiriches were fit, Eriksen played well from there even if it weakened our attack.

The other big problem we had was having two DMF suffer long term injuries and then try to shoe horn Paulinhio /Dembele and even Bentaleb into this position or a hydrid poisiton of an attacking defensive midfielder under sherwood - result we were carved open on a regular basis!
Slurms McKenzie
Whoever is our next boss needs to know, as much as he can, at the start of the season, who his preferred first team squad players are and who is suitable as back up. For this reason I think it would be a mistake to make wholesale changes before then. Both our previous two managers could not make up their minds who to play and where to play them. AVB had very little pre-season time to work with the the 7 new guys and Tim was thrown in at the deep end. Both had a lot of key players injured, to also hamper their choices. One or two new players at most, for me. January will be a different story and the manager will have a much better chance to assess his squad and suggest key changes if they're needed.
MAN ON!
WHLN17london - apologies I don't get your point, addressed to me.

Btw will you be addressing the point I was confused with earlier on the thread ?
Highgatespur
How about we let the new guy decide who should be gotten rid of. We don't even know what style or formation he will play. I dare say the squad will look much different if we are leaning to 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or 4-3-3. People slagging off all these players who are WC players, an, by and large, starters for their respective nations. Until the new guy is announced, and we see the reacions of players, I am not going to get overly excited. WC always creates a few players who are all of a sudden that player to have. Barca will be getting in players. So will Chelsea, PSG, Monaco and a few others that don't mind dropping a fair bit of cash to make it happen. COYS

A good manager will make do and mend at first. A bad one will never get it right. A mediocre one will sometimes get it right but mostly get it wrong. I don't know where Poch sits in this, until I see him at Spurs. (The Saints are a different kettle of fish to the Spurs). I'm still hoping for FDB. However the same goes for him and most others. Peterballb that makes no sense, if a manager was so important to the running of a club that he would be allowed select who we sell and who we keep then we'd have one appointed already. At Spurs the main role for the manager is to be booed by the fans when Levy sells the crown jewels and his multi pack repalcements don't really perform. It's very possible that Mr Poch himself is the reason for the delay. If Southampton are trying their upmost to keep him, it'll be the better offer that clinches the deal. Not necessarily the better club.

Maybe the same chant was a selling point !!! If its him why take so long ?
Highgatespur
Well if Talksport have it then its a done deal. But wait weren't we in advanced talks with Willian last year? no we were even further then that! advanced talks means that they have sat down together and made an offer, he has to see if Southampton will improve on it and if they do he then has to see if Levy will raise his offer even further. So in reality we are in talks with Poochie, and we are probably still in talks with FdB and even Loudrip how advanced those talks are I can't be certain but I'm sure they are move advanced then grunts...

Highgatespur
Maybe the new guy has already spoken to the players. I was always of the belief that AVB had input on both Sigurdsson and Vertonghen who were bought before AVB was announced. We'll know how the players react because they will, like any teenager, let their feet do the talking. If they want out, they will walk and I doubt the new guy will force anyone to stay. He will need committed players, fan support, ENIC support and the time from all. COYS
peterballb
If Baldini picks the players then he may as well be the chosen one. Baldini in!
MAN ON!
Slurms , remember the chant of yesteryear "we've heard it all before ... we've heard it all before ..." But will still wait ....
Highgatespur
Still if we announce the new guy thsi week that still gives us two and a half months to really big up what our expectatiosn are. By our first defeat we should have convinced ourselves we are going to be wining the quadruple! It'll be tight but I still thnk we can get there - the unreasonable level of expectation not the quadruple (at least I don't believe that yet)
Slurms McKenzie
Peterballb, AVB I'm sure always claimed to have an input into the Vertonghen deal, he still claims he doesn't know how Siggi was signed...
Slurms McKenzie
Peter I remember that .... I just think think this level of subterfuge is not really called for !! Just announce....
Highgatespur
Wonder who the pundits will be that Sky will turn to for comments ?
Highgatespur
Jamie rednapp, Harry rednapp, Jamie carrigher and Ooh Matt LeTissier
Slurms McKenzie
That'll be novel. Announcing an appointment before it's even been made. I do remember as a child, opening up my xmas presents, a few days before the 25th, only to be disappointed that it was the much cheaper version of the toy I always wanted and was hoping for...
MAN ON!
Slurms, you forgot the main man!!!
Highgatespur
Gone but not forgotten. Ooh they appointed a guy We manage to beat twice in the one season.
Slurms McKenzie
The Throwaway Denise Welch blow-up doll instead of the more up- market and indestructible, Raquel Welch one!
MAN ON!
You know it will be Pellegrini or Mourinho :-)
Andrew Haynes
At the end of the day Talksport don't actually know who it is although I just saw BBC News say its Pochettino. I actually don't mind if it is as long as he is given 2 years to implement a plan. i think AVB would have done really well if Levy had kept his nerve.
Andrew Haynes
Man On, I wanted the Millennium Falcon and got some crap "generic spaceship" almost as disappointing as a poor Raquel Welch doll. LOL
Andrew Haynes
Slurms, I am sure that point won't be missed, if this is confirmed...
Highgatespur
Where is Coops? Not seen anything from him for a while, Also all these name changes, a bit confusing. I assume Falstaff the Fool is Worldpeace? Who is Topohunty nowadays? He always was controversial. Fanny Adams seems familiar but not sure who he was before? Sorry for queries, I read every day but post rarely. I really enjoy the regulars, Coops, Man-on, Fanny Adams, Falstaff, Slurms, Highgate, even PeterBalb !! (sorry peter) (sorry if i forgot any)
Andrew Haynes
Hi Andrew. I won't fill you in although I know who is who. ;-)
MAN ON!
Cider of course!! I think the new signings need a chance to play with some tactical instruction (unlike with Timmy), especially Lamela, he will be special, Chadli is a good player but with Eriksen, Lamela and maybe Soldado, where will he play? We need to lose Rose, Walker, dawson, Siggi, Adebayor and Dembele in my opinion.
Andrew Haynes
Hello Andrew I guess you are a returnee ? Reckon this is last chance saloon for Levy...btw thanks for the compliment - coopsie comes on occasionally these days...
Highgatespur
No worries Man-on, some are obvious, some not so. I cant sign in as Andyid for some reason, had to use facebook ! As I say I have been reading daily for well over a year, I enjoy the odd gooner coming on here, makes me laugh, their VS site is dead :-). FDB all the way
Andrew Haynes
Thinking about it, it must be longer than that, we had Harry in charge when I first started reading. On a different note, did anyone watch the QPR-Derby game, how did QPR win? Talk about lucky !! Harry cracked, me up, when asked how QPR won, his answer was 'I don't know' you couldn't make it up ....
Andrew Haynes
Harry? Never really knows how he's won or lost a match.
MAN ON!
Andrew I couldn't bear to watch the finale of Derby loss - I wanted them to win... I missed the comment by him but it did bring back memories of not so distant past! I also want FdB but not too fussed after the debacle of the past season.... I'll wait for the announcement...
Highgatespur
Lots of talk on twitter from the Netherlands that Frank De Boer will be leaving Ajax this summer.
vicspur
If anyone finds out who I am, please let me know. Been trying to work it out for years now. ;-)
Cider spurs
vicspur, saw that as well!!!
Highgatespur
Cider, stick to the name Cider spurs and we will be happy!!!
Highgatespur
Andrew, apologies are not necessary. Nor is agreement with any other poster's opinion. It's always nice to her other opinions with which one may respectfully disagree. It's what makes us alter our opinions or become more steadfast in them. All good when done with the appropriate intentions. COYS
peterballb
peterballb - good start to your season ?
Highgatespur
Plot thickens...

Highgatespur
Well...If it is to be Poch, my stance. I am more than happy and can see the positives for him being appointed. Performed better than both Martinez and Rodgers when comparing season prior to their moves to Everton and Liverpool respectively. On that basis, he cannot, nor should not be written off.

Add to the fact, other than Harry he is the first prem manager appointed for a long time as opposed to a foreign untried. He works his players hard, he gets players motivated and driven, the football is a joy to watch, youth develops well, he is a supposed likable chap. If he can get Spurs playing offensively as well as Southampton were, but tighten up the defending aspect, he'll do just fine, heck I'd even say the football could be more entertaining and rewarding than that under FDBs leadership. Who knows?, but I reckon he'll do better than some are prepared to give him credit for. I'm happy, not I'll back him because he's our manager, if he comes, I'm happy!.
Cider spurs
I actually saw neither game as I was readying the property for the end of year Select Hockey Party. Kids, I am told, did ok, though the youngest hurt his leg the day prior so he was not in a mood to play. Party was a great 8 hours of fun ending with a fire in the fire pit and more Smores than any one child should ever consume. Kids everywhere and parents drinking and enjoying the time. No injuries, and other than a day of cleaning, super duper success. Then tryouts for this year's team were yesterday, so it all starts again. It never stops really. Hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming. Kees me fit and scheduled to the max. COYS
peterballb
The same goes for FDB, again more than happy. My opinion of Poch is more about the fact that I somehow fail to see what so many are missing, or indeed myself. I dislike some talking of him being a mistake and or, he'll not last 18 Months.

The guy has done nothing wrong other than come to England, improve on field football and league finishes, whilst developing youth and getting players playing well enough for 3 of them to make the World Cup. I'm more than happy with either, but I see them both as equals as opposed to one being far superior than the other. Way too many factors to even compare. Leagues, finances, transfer policy etc, etc.
Cider spurs
Thanks peterballb, Sounds like a proper knees up, the good ole North American way - miss those s'mores !!! Well done keep us updated !!!
Highgatespur
Cider - with you, let's hope all the fans get behind Poch. There's no reason not to.
muttley
Cider, I would be happy with either but do prefer FdB. Would just be happy for all of this to end so we can start the real debate ... COYS!!
Highgatespur
I'll happily welcome Mauricio to the lane! "Pochettinos blue and white army" has a ring to it! But remember! A 5k bet on this by some muppet reading the mail could skew those odds! I ain't getting excited until I see whoever it is at his first press conference!
Dublin Hotspur
If we get MoPo and saints get FdB.....which club will be more successful in 2 years time?
shedboy2
You're with me then Dublin.... I am going wait till the announcement and then see the press conference...
Highgatespur
shedboy2, think someone more familiar will have his eyes set on the south coast !!! Good luck to them!
Highgatespur
now now shedboy, lets not throw our toys out of our prams without giving the bloke a chance
tarkan mardinCOYS
Joe Lewis knows pochettinos family! He has an estate in Argentina and seems to have forced this through! Only bonus is if this is true he is more likely to see his contract out than anyone else!
Dublin Hotspur
You are NOT serious Dublin !!! Gives us more dosh then !!!
Highgatespur
I have read the same vis-a-vis Lewis and Pochettino. I have also read that Lewis was the reason Caulker was sold. If Pochettino comes to pass, I would suggest that Lewis has far more of a hand in things than people believe. COYS
peterballb
Have a read of this guys. http://www.thesefootballtimes.net/#!de-boers-pressing/csfr

I believe it to be true highgate!

Great read vicspur! Great insight and def worth a read!

haha WHLN17-no wonder he declined a drink with you
tarkan mardinCOYS
Dublin, just to show I am fair..lol. http://bankruptspurs.wordpress.com/2014/05/26/levy-and-learning-to-love-poch/
vicspur
Great read vicspur - it'd be great and interesting to have him at Spurs.
Highgatespur
Excellent second piece vicspur - great English ... why wasn't this released earlier I wonder ... thanks .
Highgatespur
Knowing Pochettinos family is a reason to employ him? I bloody well hope not.
MAN ON!
Vicspur! That was bloody enjoyable! I now want him for sure, not my cousin rafa, the tramp FDB or the supermodel ancellotti! Lol!
Dublin Hotspur
I'm not sure why Poch is even being considered. Is it because he may be the next Rogers or Martinez? Who's to say that they won't be just one season wonders anyway? Poch has proved nothing in his short career that puts him in any better position than AVB. Tim is as much of a prospect as he is. I'm not convinced at all by your opinion of him Cider, or anyone else that will be happy with him coming in.
MAN ON!
Dublin you t*rt !!!! You are spreading your favours a bit.... LOL
Highgatespur
He played some nice football with Southampton for a few games and the players like him. Lewis knows his brothers girlfriends bank manager, or whoever? Who cares? I'd rather have Pulis...
MAN ON!
I still reckon it's FdB!!!
Highgatespur
Lineker, tell someone to 'have a word' with Lewis and Levy. I'm about to cry some Gazza-ooh I do feel so sorry for myself-tears!
MAN ON!
So do I.... In fact I know it's FDB. ;-)
MAN ON!
WHLN17london. I'm not convinced as yet that it will be Poch but I'll not understand it, if it is.
MAN ON!
Poch is just another new kid on the block. Everyone thinks he's a breath of fresh air, a real charmer but, in reality we know nothing of the guy that proves he's got what it takes to be the new leader of the gang. FDB has form at least, as well as being quite charming and also apparently liked by his players.
MAN ON!
WHLN17london... Very true. I'll give the man a chance or I'll just be a hypocrite but I get your point and I'd rather we didn't choose him above FDB, if that is the choice.
MAN ON!
I don't even know that FDB is a wise choice but I like where he's coming from... Who bloody knows?
MAN ON!
I'm not throwing toys out of a pram...and there is no one to give a chance to at the moment....but IF we get MoPo and Saints were to hire FdB which club will be doing better in two years? purely hypothetical...imo if MoPo doesn't crack it in his first season we'll be screwed...didn't he leave espanyol in relegation trouble?...to pay compo and take such a risk...well if we do i hope Lewis Knows the family well enough to actually cough up some cash to back the boy!
shedboy2
shedboy2, it might not happen - let's just wait and see...
Highgatespur
WHLN17london- how much is our budget for next year? we haven't spent anything but recycled player sales for four years...you must have some good sources...
shedboy2
WHLN17london. I'd be very happy with Rafa but it just ain't gonna happen.
MAN ON!
Who: The Goat
When: 26th May
Where: SC

We've been told that Poch is "all sorted contract-wise" and we're just finalising terms with Southampton. It'll be a 3 year deal with a further 1 year option. He'll also bring in 3/4 of his backroom staff.
Dublin Hotspur
WHLN17london- they have spent more than us (net) for the past two years...part of the reason they just finished 2 places behind us in the prem....If Levy spends all our revenue on other things and thinks he can just be an Arthur Daley and keep flipping players he's in for (and some of us) a rude awakening...we've re-gressed two years running..time to get an experience manager in...and back him.
shedboy2
Shedboy2, don't think the experienced manager is coming. Levy does like to gamble but not with money, only managers.
Kong
apparently rafael benitez was contacted around 10 days ago and we did not follow it up...interesting
tarkan mardinCOYS
Some reports saying Martinez was interested in the job too. A lot of stories will be coming out but who knows which ones are true.
