I just took a quick look at the Tottenham squad on the official website and one or two names made me think about their and others futures and potential to develop under the new regime.
Names of players such as Benteleb and Carroll are sure to be high on Pochettino`s list of possible players to add to the squad, but what of others that seemed to be forgotten in recent times, but find themselves amongst the 30 names of players in the Spurs first team squad.
I noticed that Ryan Mason is named along with Iago Falque. But there is no place for Jon Obika or Alex Pitchard, who remain as development squad names. Just a case of a lack of space or an indication of who is wanted or at least to be given a chance or who already know they don`t have a future at the club.
We have heard that Obika is wanted by the likes of Doncaster and Barnsley, whilst Pritchard, a player that made his league debut in the last Prem game of last season, has been talked about for some time as a target for Leicester and others, either on loan or in a permanent deal. Perhaps the club already know their futures and for the short term at least (in the case of Pritchard) it isn`t at WHL.
So what of Mason and Falque? Is Mason a current poor mans version of Adam Lallana, a player that works anywhere behind the striker, is technically excellent, has an eye for goal and has genuinely good vision and creativity? Based on what they have seen, regardless of his very average injury hit loans, is he a player to write off or one where they see genuine potential?
What of Falque? A player that showed first team potential and offers a more technical ability from wide positions than for example, Lennon or Townsend. Maybe he is seen as more of a like for like player to cover Erik Lamela for example and one who might thrive under Poch and his new way of playing?
I have just looked at four players, based on age similarity and the squad on the official site, but clearly there will be others that Poch and his team will already have decided they like or dislike the look of and the players will be treated accordingly.
We already know that Grant Ward and Grant Hall are on loans, Kevin Stewart and a few others have been made available or already officially or un-officially let go, but what of the likes of Milos Veljkovic, Ryan Fredericks, Shaq Coulthirst, Ruben Lameiras, Cristiam Ceballas and others that may or may not be seen as players to push forward. What are your thoughts?..
