'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Break!

I just took a quick look at the Tottenham squad on the official website and one or two names made me think about their and others futures and potential to develop under the new regime.

Names of players such as Benteleb and Carroll are sure to be high on Pochettino`s list of possible players to add to the squad, but what of others that seemed to be forgotten in recent times, but find themselves amongst the 30 names of players in the Spurs first team squad.

I noticed that Ryan Mason is named along with Iago Falque. But there is no place for Jon Obika or Alex Pitchard, who remain as development squad names. Just a case of a lack of space or an indication of who is wanted or at least to be given a chance or who already know they don`t have a future at the club.

We have heard that Obika is wanted by the likes of Doncaster and Barnsley, whilst Pritchard, a player that made his league debut in the last Prem game of last season, has been talked about for some time as a target for Leicester and others, either on loan or in a permanent deal. Perhaps the club already know their futures and for the short term at least (in the case of Pritchard) it isn`t at WHL.

So what of Mason and Falque? Is Mason a current poor mans version of Adam Lallana, a player that works anywhere behind the striker, is technically excellent, has an eye for goal and has genuinely good vision and creativity? Based on what they have seen, regardless of his very average injury hit loans, is he a player to write off or one where they see genuine potential?

What of Falque? A player that showed first team potential and offers a more technical ability from wide positions than for example, Lennon or Townsend. Maybe he is seen as more of a like for like player to cover Erik Lamela for example and one who might thrive under Poch and his new way of playing?

I have just looked at four players, based on age similarity and the squad on the official site, but clearly there will be others that Poch and his team will already have decided they like or dislike the look of and the players will be treated accordingly.

We already know that Grant Ward and Grant Hall are on loans, Kevin Stewart and a few others have been made available or already officially or un-officially let go, but what of the likes of Milos Veljkovic, Ryan Fredericks, Shaq Coulthirst, Ruben Lameiras, Cristiam Ceballas and others that may or may not be seen as players to push forward. What are your thoughts?..

Good question, Ox. I find it impossible to comment on the youngsters (unless they’ve featured in the first team) because I don’t see enough of them to have an informed opinion. It would be interesting to hear comments from supporters who have seen these players in action.
Geofspurs
I used to go to the Swindon Games and watch the lads. (My missus worked there so It would be rude to go home and have to return to collect her after the game so i'd hang around)

Pritch to me has an incredible amount of talent and one that we will see in the future, whether it's this season who knows. Personally i'd like to see what Poch can do with him and him get some game time for us. Pritch, and Mason deserve to stay at WHL and mix it with the big boys. Pritch has a sensible head on his shoulders and when he had the ball would look up, decide where to pass the ball and put it damn near to where it should be. (Almost "Hoddle-esque") I believe he'll stay at WHL and get a few cup games, few sub appearances and give a bit of cover, by the end of this season if he hasn't started more than 5 then he's obviously not in Pch's plans and he'll be moved on for a few quid or sent out to the likes of Norwich for a season further. i prefer to see him make it as he has (something we have heard a lot about these past few weeks) a low centre of gravity. Potentially he's going to be our very own Maradonna/Hoddle love child prodigy!

I'd be very surprised if we sold Pritchard. Not too long ago Inglethorpe was trying to take him to Liverpool with him, the likes of Barcelona were also making enquiries. 6 goals with 10 assists for Swindon in the league is not too shabby.

However, here's the thing, yet again once more we arrive at the crux of the problem. Gametime and is he ready?. Pritchard plays as an AM, is 21. We already have numerous players who play this position, have done so for their countries. Whilst I understand that Holtby was just too cheap for Levy to say no, we now have so many midfielders that blooding new emerging talent has become a whole lot harder. We need to allow a few spaces along the way for the likes of the emerging talent to get gametime. Maybe not sign a plethora in the same position, but give some of this youth a chance, was it really sensible to sign Holtby, loan him out and watch Pritchard fall further down the pecking order. Just like Bentaleb, play a few here and there more often, cups and early Europa maybe, if they are good enough, they'll be fine, don't go overboard with this wrapping in cotton wool idea, the thought that you could ruin their career. Continually shipping players round the country on loan season on season and still selling at the end is not beneficial to development either.

Let's start playing a few a little more often, they'll get to know if they have a future at Spurs, we'll know whether we have the talent emerging at the club as opposed to writing another cheque to steal a place from under their feet.
cider spurs
It would be great if Pochettino started using our youth players instead of buying expensive foreign imports every season.
spurboy61
It depends on the date of births of the players. Last years free picks that would now need to be named in the squad are Eriksen, Lamela, Fredericks, Fryers, Carroll, Ceballos and Lancaster. The ones that were already 21 or over are Hall, Mason, Falque, Khumalo and the free picks are Archer, Bentaleb, Veljkavic,Pritchard, Kane etc. In my opinion, Poch will keep the free picks until January because of the Europa League and Capital One cups. He will have some tough choices with the rest though because he can only name 25 and he has a bloated squad. That gives Veljkavic, Bentaleb, Pritchard and Kane a huge advantage over Kuumalo, Carroll, Falque and Obika. Ultimately, Poch will need to thin the squad quite considerably if he wants new signings.
muttley
By the way, my assumption is that anyone born after 1st January 1993 counts as a free-pick and the rest are senior pro's. That means Pritchard is a free-pick but Ceballos is not.
muttley
Caroll high up on the list??!!! Did you not follow his latest loan away.... Overrated IMHO. I'd let him go for 5mil.. In fact, apart from Bentelab & perhaps Kane I'd be dissapointed to see many more of the youngsters near our first team! I get the romance of it all, but you're dreaming if you think we have the next Ledley King in out ranks! Until we do, let's buy the quality potential. Like we did for Bale & Lennon. Davies from swansea a good start!
LuvWhites
I have been thinking this for a while now so hear gos, Dawson to hull and fryers moves over to CB, we dont need to buy a CB, bring in a LB and we are good to go, you can now soot me
spurs50yrs
I also agree on Pritchard but he needs to go to a West Brom or West Ham... Some team in prem where he'd get good game time. We can't afford to try them ourselves, we're pushing for champions league and it's a gamble.. Every game counts!
LuvWhites
Spurs50 - I'd try fryers over Churches, lose Dawson & buy 2 quality CBs ... We need new blood!
LuvWhites
LuvWhites.. Do you think the CL is a realistic goal for next season?
MAN ON!
Another point that kind of re-iterates my belief that we should introduce one or two of the youth a bit more often. Today, and for the last few days, we have been linked with Ben Davies, he only turned 21 in April, and has already a minimum of a season prem football under his belt.

Many are excited and delighted by the prospect of Davies joining, have to admit, I'm happy, he is a steady player and hopefully can excel over the years. Here's my point, he was playing in the Prem aged 19 same as Bentaleb, he has proved he can handle it. We need to start putting a few younger ones out there and see if they can handle it. I know it's hard keeping everybody happy, Taylor the LB at Swansea is now not happy his place is taken by Davies, but unless we start playing some of the younger ones, we might just let a great slip through our fingers, and or spend money we could reinvest elsewhere.
cider spurs
Spurs50...I've said numerous times that Fryers future is at CB. A position he has openly stated he prefers and sees himself, and a position he was afforded when playing the few cameos at United. Lose both Kaboul and Daws, reinvest in Schar or Savic and have Fryers as an option also.
cider spurs
.... Davies has played 2 full PL seasons up until now.
MAN ON!
Kenny Mc is the boy I would like to see get a break this season.
Bit off topic, but I haven't seen much of Ben Davis as I didn't spend too much time streaming swansea games last season! what is he like? I can't find anything on scouting sites or youtube of any value, and his stats look fairly similar to Rose! (that can't be a good thing) why are we looking to buy this guy?? someone convince me he is better than some of the foreign guys we have discussed here before! or is it a case of over hype british again! any links would be appreciated!
Dublin Hotspur
There is plenty of games in a season to blood the youngsters and see if they can handle it, have a look at our record for blooding yougsters compared to other teams it is crap, may be now we have someone who can change this, i keep saying it we have the squad and the depth in under 21s so play them
spurs50yrs
If they've reached 21 and they've played more matches elsewhere than at Spurs then take the plunge and promote them within the club. If they're not showing any sign of being good enough then sell them. We have to gamble occasionally and see if any of these guys fit the bill.
MAN ON!
I'm with you there Dublin! Cider, LuvWhites' comment illustrates why your posiiton will not be popular. If we're not spending millions on a player then he can't be any good. And if he's one of our youth players he must be utter crap. Despite the fact that we have a big group of very talent young players trying to push through we still have fans who want to write them off before they've barely kicked a ball for us in anger! Becaue they are not the next Ledley King! how do they know what they are like???
Slurms McKenzie
what i have seen of Davies i dont think much of, he dosnt take players on the over lap and hes crossing is not that good yes i can defend but not much else, my thoughts are hes the same as Rose so why buy him
spurs50yrs
Man On - I'm not sure! I'm excited by Poch, never wanted Sherwood.. It depends on this Summers activities! Some clearly need to go and we definitely need a few faces in (pace important), if we get this right who knows.. Dawson, churches, Siggy and Soldado gone from 1st team would be a good step, 2 quality centre backs, left back and a striker in would be a real positive! Lots of players deserve this season though to prove their worth (Chadli, Paulihno, Rose, Holtby). Most of the 21yr old kids to go on loan in prem in a make or break season... I'll know more about our chances at the start of August :)
LuvWhites
With game time both Betaleb and Kane showed they are more then capable of holding their own in our squad and as much as we hated Sherwood neither of them would have gotten thoses chances under AVB or Harry. Hopefully par tof Pochettinos mandate is to promote from withint eh clubs ranks. Sell on Holtby and Siggy and give their game time to our own future superstars.
Slurms McKenzie
Hopefully to break through this season would be Ceballos as was the most gifted from those mentioned. Will all depend on how MP sees our youth's current ability and potential advancement in the cups. If not will be loans again for most of them. Ben Davies would be a step up for us at LB over DR as at least he can defend.
CoysRus
Slums, I'm not knocking all the kids, I'm saying we're pushing champions league (or should be).. Let the lesser prem teams blood out youngsters so we can see if they cut it! We can't afford to do a lot of experimenting in the first team unless we have done real stand out boys... QPR, West Brom, Swansea - these type of teams will be the ones to trial our future potential.
LuvWhites
COYS, do we need a step up on Rose at LB, or a proper LB / WB! is a step up enough for £15m? surely we can do better!
Dublin Hotspur
Signing seven or eight players isn't an option this window, it failed miserably last season and it will fail again this season. we need to address the areas that need fixing. LW is a priority, Davies would solve LB, Rose then as his understudy? Dawson is the ideal four choice CB and I would keep him ahead of the failing Kaboul. I have very little faith in Chiriches but he gets a pass because of the shambolic season we had affected nearly every player in the squad. Use Fryers to replace Kaboom. and thats your lot, two signings, maybe a striker if Bony can be gotten for reasonable money, but we do need a wrecking ball type striker who can plough a lone furrow up top!
Slurms McKenzie
Yeah we let Bentelab and Kane into our first team last year... But we had a poor season remember! And while it wasn't the fault of these two players, many games we said wondered why they played in front of international players.
LuvWhites
Luvwhites the best place for them to learn is from our coach and our first team squad. we should have been blooding one or two players into the squad over the last four to five years not doing this has caused a huge back log of youth players who we just don't know enough about. Prem teams are limited to the number of loanees they can sign and usually they try and get proven players to shore up their teams as they can't afford to actually buy these players - look how Kane got on at Norwich!
Slurms McKenzie
Bentaleb is now a proven International after last seasona nd the world cup! both he and kane did well while more experienced players were struggling its a sqaud game and player sshould be rotated, lack of rotation did for us under Harry where players were ran inot the ground before the line up was changed.
Slurms McKenzie
Slums - keep Dawson??! Mate this is not the way forward... Though agreed on Churches, both should go.
LuvWhites
If we are to utilise Pochettinos main selling point, of being a very good coach at bringing on the young, talented players with the Saints, then we need him and his staff to get on with it at Spurs. I'm with Slurms on this. The best place for them is at Spurs and not running around a bit or, up and down the touchline, for Harry and the like.
MAN ON!
Vlad is a national team captain! he showed great defensive ability and progressive guile last season! once again a case of having to cover weak full backs, poor coaching and injury meant he could not show his true colours! another case of wait til Poch gets going with them, and see who fits and who doesn't in Jan / May!
Dublin Hotspur
Big Break.... they don't make shows like that anymore! So my team Holland march into quarters, albeit with the help of Arjen "tom daley" robben"
Metal Spurs
Come on Poch and up the Lilywhites! I'm off to get match fit for tonight. A high carb, liquid lunch and a few warm ups should do the trick...... Nabil for Spurs and Spurs for all!
MAN ON!
Personally I feel if the manager thik they are ready he will pick them (as TS did last season). I dont think we as fans are best to judge who is ready.
Ossie
There were many supporters on here complaining about the amount of game time Bentaleb got last season. If that is the thinking, how on earth are we ever going to give young players with potential the time they need to develop. In retrospect TS made a pretty gutsy call on that one. He may not make it but, if he doesn’t, we won’t be left thinking about what might have been. If the supporters demand or expect CL football after next season we will never develop our youngsters ... or the team.
Geofspurs
Dublin...The only way I can describe Davies is as steady. There have been plenty of comparison stats of late including Prem LBs. Some show Davies to have actually outshone Shaw, some have put Rose ahead of Shaw.

The latest one I read had Davies beating Rose in the attacking side of things, but winning less defensive tackles. However, Davies played something like 14 games more and only made 1 defensive mistake in 36 games, Rose made 3 in 22.

Rose will offer more pace wise, Davies will be the better passer. I like Davies, but he really is all about potential, we are not signing the finished article here. Rose might actually cope better this season if we played a true LW ahead who is willing and able to track back as opposed to Rose having to marshall the whole left side.

Yes Rose needs to be better in his decision making, but maybe I have been a little harsh in hindsight regarding his jogging back and poor crossing. I expect the lads legs were like jelly continually having to run the whole of the Left side. Maybe as stated before, he should pick his forays forward more carefully.

In conclusion, I'd be happy with Davies as a LB addition, but still remain somewhat disappointed that we have not signed a finished article, maybe that's just me and my Rodriguez love in LOL!. However, that said, Liverpool, City and Atletico to name a few have all been linked with an interest previously, so one would think the lad has something.
Cider spurs
While we expressed our disgust at Saurez biting incident, I reckon it's about time we did the same about diving - his man has been doing it for so long he thinks it's ok, even to the point of 'admitting' to it in public without one degree of shame. It's a disgrace.
Highgatespur
I agree with the thoughts that we are holding on the 'promising' youngsters for far too long. The amount of investment delved into the youth development has not reaped the returns over the years. I think it's time to release those 'youngsters' who are passed their 'youth' development at the club and yet still waiting for their 'breakthrough'. MRP is meant to be good at youth development but he isn't a miracle worker...he's still has the mere job of developing the first team... Strongly believe that youth continue to develop with a strong and stable structure at the club and that includes a strong first team - no matter at what level.
Highgatespur
I am afraid it will be a balancing act. At the end of the day, Pochettino would want a squad that is able to a) at least maintain our respectable position in the PL and b) allow the development of the youth....AND development of the SENIOR individuals. The fans and the board will need a large dose of patience if several youth are to be introduced from the outset. Once our jigsaw is complete, I would like to see a greater PART TIME use of the youngsters. Throw them at the deep end at your peril. I have always been an advocate of their introduction as per Sir Alex Ferguson, i.e., cameo introductions to more game time. Until our transfer activity is concluded, it'd be difficult to predict whom or how many of the youth can be afforded the opportunity. All the talk of Pochettino as a 'developing from within' manager, THFC is a different proposition to Southampton. So will wait and see the comings and goings to form an image of the future. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Geof, to aspire to the highest level will only inspire those who strive for the best for the club; anything else is a repeat of the past of the 80s, 90s and 00s. Not willing to lower the aspirations of the club - of course the club need to lower the prices they charge if they or us change what we aspire to do. Mention Bentaleb's game time - can you imagine what the impact would have been if that was managed better and with meritocracy in mind ? I dont think being short sighted will help any of us IMO.
Highgatespur
Sorry for off topic...Few little squeaks out there that we are going all in to try and land Lukaku. Salt and all that!.
Cider spurs
Cheers cider! Just think we should be buying experience and the finished article. Not spending 15 mil on someone that may only be as good as someone we already have on our ranks! Hope the hols were good!
Dublin Hotspur
Great article, some good points raised. It is difficult to know who will succeed at First team level. Lallana is now 26 years old and only recently emerged as a class player. (thanks to Pochettino?) Could be the year Tom Carroll breaks through, if he has toughened up after last season. But any player stepping up a grade, Bentaleb or even Ledley King when he first played in the first team can appear shaky and unsure until 4-6 games played. I think if I remember correctly seeing Ledley against Man Utd in an early game when he looked lost! So SUPPORT for young players in the their first few games in the Premier League can help make them if they have the character and attitude to persevere
camper
Cider, I fear you are in the positivity mood of holidays ... Rose is the finished article... whether he had cover or not - his crosses ? his tackling , marauding upfield without cover ... he is not good enough for what the Spurs are looking for and it will help no one if the romanticism of the thought of Rose improving continues....
Highgatespur
camper, sometimes support for the young ones is to drop them after a few games and then to bring them on gradually... not play them continually until they are not fit enough to play for a long period... I think Nabil will succeed at the club... but let's not say he's accomplished PL and international player - yet !
Highgatespur
Highgate...Whilst I understand Rose is a couple of years further down the road than Davies, a couple of points still need to be remembered. Bearing in mind this in conjunction with us maybe signing Davies.

Rose was actually more successful than Davies regarding defending last season, Davies whilst being better in attack only contributed one prem assist and has a measly 19% crossing accuracy. Davies' strength is holding onto possession.

As much as I believe Rose is not of the standard required, It would be wrong to ignore the fact that he was hung out to dry for vast periods last season, I have stated that he should have maybe considered his forays forward last season, but to add balance could it not be argued that he could have fared a whole lot better with a LW willing to track back and cover space left?. I think this may have had something to do with crosses at times and his apparent jogging back as opposed to sprinting, the lad was fecked running the whole Left side. I'd still like to see what he could do with a true Left sided player ahead who is able to work the Left side in unison with Rose, not saying we don't need a LB, but would equally like Rose to be given a fair crack in a proper set up. As for his marauding runs forward, could it be he was just following instructions, Walker has Lennon to help, Rose has??.

A little side thought, Davies is mooted at circa £8 million, a value many, myself included have felt is probably half of what he should cost. 21, prem experience scope for good improvement...Did we sell Caulker to cheaply on that basis?.
Cider spurs
Bentaleb looks mature beyond his years. Playing in the WC and doing a great job for his country speaks volumes but you have to be careful and pick the youngsters at the right time. You want them to play when they're full of confidence and in a game where the result is not as important as the PL (cup game) and in a less hostile environment. This is why Pocho and his backroom staff earn their crust and by his track record with the kids at Southampton; he seems to get it right more often than not. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Cider, as you know I dont hold too much on statistics, it hides a lot of valuable aspects of a player: attitude, capacity to learn, propensity to take regard to play... and so on... Cider, Rose may have been "hung out to dry" when foraging upfield... how many ended with a product... was he hung out to dry when crossing, shooting, tackling, scowling at team-mates, show of temper to anyone around him, showing no awareness of those around him, shrugging shoulders when goals conceded because of his absence ? I think you may be aiding and betting to the defending the indefensible !!! ;-)

Bentelab needs games to keep improving and carrying on from last season. I can see Pochettino giving everyone a chance and Bentelab has every chance to start in the first 11 for the coming season.

a.k.a.james1spurs
Highgate...Wires crossed maybe? ;-) You may have read that I do not believe Rose is of the standard required, his petulance duly noted and commented on previously also. I am trying to do nothing more than explain maybe why some areas of Rose's game were sub standard, they might not be the cause, but my case in point is that they might just be. Without seeing the other side of the coin, namely a LW who is prepared to work in tandem with Rose how will we know?. We can't. He supposedly was doing alright at Sunderland when he had a player ahead to work with, top 4?, I doubt it, but I still think only fair to see what he can do in the right set up.

I can assure anybody, any player regardless of how fit or fast they are cannot be expected to run the whole Left side of a pitch from back to front without it having a detrimental effect on their performance, no way, of course pace and tracking back will drop off, as will crossing effectiveness, legs become jelly like and once slowed, lead like. All I am stating is this too needs to be factored in when writing off Rose.
Cider spurs
Very true James1 but I will take credit if it is true :).

Kong, I really hope that doesn't include Rose.

Highgate, pre season starts soon I think so Pochettino will have a look at the players very soon. For us to be linked to LB's then this must mean that this is an area that will be addressed. Will it happen tho, we will soon find out

Cider, no crossed wires, I just wanted to highlight the aspects of his play: crossing, shooting, tackling, scowling at team-mates, show of temper to anyone around him, showing no awareness of those around him, shrugging shoulders when goals conceded because of his absence; All this wouldn't be prevented if a LW was present. When a player can't decide for himself whether to concentrate on his main job or not it's a worry; remember Cider, some of the foraging were carried in the first few minutes in a games - legs ought not to turn to jelly by then, should they? We can't afford to have a liability such as Rose for another season. Success for Sunderland should not be a feature in the analysis of Rose's skills.

Have Spurs dropped their interest in Rodriguez, Swiss international ?

I don't see the point of looking to the kids until Senior players are sold. Carroll and Bentaleb are great examples. I like both and believe both are PL quality. They both need to be playing week in and week out. But does either get in regularly ahead of Dembele, Paulinho, Holtby, Sandro, Capoue, Eriksen in the middle? That's without even contemplating players like Chadli, Lamela and Sigurdsson who all have the ability to play in behond a striker. I don't see it as things currently stand. Now if Sigurdsson, Holtby and Capoue or Sandro or Dembele are sold, we may be talking. For now, at most positions, there are just too many bodies that deserve the spots. Pritchard and Fredericks have more chance, but they too have a number of players ahead of them.

Neither the Senior players nor the kids can sit on the bench. Kids can be loaned out. If they are to play regularly, players ahead of them must be moved on. Either way is good so long as it's what Pochettino wants. Getting the squad size down is one of the new struggles Pochettino will face as he learns his job. For good or bad, we are where we are because of the 30 plus senior players in the squad. If we don't qualify for the group stages of Europa, that number will need to get down to about 18. To include kids in the regular players lowers that number further. Does anyone else see the problem? Our numbers and place in the CL mix means that kids are less likely to play and to take up spaces in squad numbers. Just reality. COYS

onemoreseason, would you prefer Bony over Lukaku?
Kong
Highgate...I'd suggest Rodriguez would cost circa £15 million with many suitors. Can't see Levy paying that, especially with a sniff of Davies at £8 million. Shame because I think he would bring so much to the team, great defender and crosses the strikers would die for. As for Rose, correct, all his weaknesses would not disappear as a result of having a LW, but maybe not so many weaknesses and therefore not so much highlighting of his shortcomings. I'm not making excuses, his attitude at times stunk, same with tracking back, if he can't get back, don't get forward, but he is part of the problem, not exclusively the problem. Soldado is proven, not in the prem, but proven. He struggled also this season, but many correctly called it, stating he was not serviced and aided correctly, fair question, was Rose helped as much as he could have been in his breakthrough season at Spurs?.
Cider spurs
Rose had as many crosses as Walker until he got injured and made fewer defensive blunders that led to goals. Neither were getting assists, nor were their crosses anywhere near the intended targets. I just have a huge problem hanging one out to dry when the one on the other side who normally benefits from Lennon's cover, is far more a liability and no more a threat.

That said, Davies (who played far more than Rose but got the same number of goals and assists) is a far better defensive player and is 3 years younger. There is no way Rose starts ahead of him which means Rose will surely go. Which brongs me to my next question, Who do we pick on next? COYS

I'm still of the opinion that we should spend the entire transfer budget on the back line. PeterBalb has raised a good point about using the kids like Bentaleb, Pritchard etc rather than buy more players. We need to thin out the midfield area and give them a chance to succeed.

I'm not convinced that will work at the back though. That's where we need critical purchases remembering that 5 of the current lot are homegrown (Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Rose, Fryers). We need to somehow keep the balance of homegrown whilst upgrading hence why I think we're in for Ben Davies. It's hard to say whether others like Fredericks can slot in at RB but we all know defenders mature later so he's probably best off out on loan. We could probably break even by switching out Dawson with Caulker as well. Whilst I rate Chiriches higher than most, we still need a £20-30m centre half signing.

We did get to see the trophy room albeit in a slightly different way. They put the replicas of the FA Cup and the First Division Championship trophy in the mascots room so we could have some photos and a good close up look at them. It was done well. a.k.a.james an adult ticket is £20 and a child's ticket is £9. It's well worth a visit.

Thanks Spurious, are you sure that the trophies weren't moved to make room for the EL, PL, FA Cup and the Capital cup we're going to win in 2015!!! No replica of the UEFA Cup in its 30 year anniversary ?

Multiple mentions of done deal re Davies, £8 mill seems a steal to me. In reading the comments on here, about players pluses and minuses, and the relevant use of youngsters, I must say I'm really pleased we went for MP. I can't remember seeing any Saints players hung out to dry eg: Soldado (no crosses or through balls) or Rose (cavaliering up and down the left side) with no covering player supporting. MP sets up a team to play as a team, everyone covering each other and giving opportunities to pass, instead of standing still and expecting a pass regardless of how difficult it might be. All those players that have now become internationals, not just kids either. As always I am optimistic for next season but then I do not demand CL straight away. Only hindsight will tell all! if they're good enough they are old enough...BUT they have to be good enough to displace what's in front of them and to get there most will need plenty of game time...hence the loan system. As for Rose he was a weak link for us so Davies would be an improvement not up to Shaw's level and imo there are better out there but he'd be a move in the right direction...before people point to stats perhaps they could guide me to the stats on: first touch, decision making, speed, endurance, positioning I suspect Rose would be quite low on that site...
shedboy2
Lovren would offer flexibility in the heart of defence, capable pretty much at playing anywhere across the back. Another player we were linked with earlier in the year was Alexandru Maxim. Plays for Stuttgart, 23 AM/LW or RW. Something like 8 goals 14 assists in a very poor Stuttgart side. A compatriot of Vlad, and still relatively cheap, circa £6 million, think he could be mustard in a 3 behind the striker. Lamela, Eriksen and Maxim would offer so much creativity. All 3 switching roles in behind the striker, certainly looks more VFM than Depay...The next Ronaldo.

Maxim's returns are right up there with the likes of Ribery's and Reus' both of whom have at least 3 Bundesliga years under their belts. Maxim's returns are after his 1st season, a season playing in a relegation battling side. If we are looking at cheapish options, he may well be worth considering, after all both ourselves and Liverpool have been linked with having an interest before. He would offer flexibility to cover numerous positions well.
Cider spurs
The way I look at it a few years ago there were 2 left backs, Bale and Baines. We were linked with both and we chose Bale and the rest is history. Obviously, Baines had a lesser career than Bale but still was a great signing for Everton. Perhaps Ben Davies will be the new Baines whilst Shaw becomes the new Bale. It still doesn't make either a bad signing.

Highgatespur, when have I ever suggested that people on here are not free to express their opinions. I presume you take exception with the fact that I believe Rose was unfairly singled out and castigated while others seem to receive the free pass. I merely wish to know which of our Spurs players that the fans will next choose to pillory. Someone must follow in the line of Jenas, Pav, Livermore, Rose. I completely disagree that it has no effect because once the fans get in the habit of labeling this player or that "a donkey", like Grease, it becomes the word, even when facts and stats show others to be equaly poor or good, depending on how one wishes to frame it. It seems to me that a "whipping boy" is needed. I just wish to know the next one that will be thrown under the bus by the "supporters". Before you take to castigating me, very little of the attacks on Rose have been based on facts or stats. Walker, factually and statistically, has been far worse and far more prone to unbelievably stupid and poor defensive plays that have wound up in the back of our net. His offensive stats, head to head with Rose last season were no better. So, where is the problem? Or are both problems? The season prior, Walker beside Gallas was an utter nightmare and cost us loads of goals against. All I am suggesting is that we have issues with some of our young talent and supposedly a young manager who is great at developing young talent. How about we let that manager sort out what he has? Rose has an awesome engine and one heck of a shot. He is also fairly strong in the offensive penalty area on set pieces. His defensive positioning is far better than Walker's on the other side and he has not had the luxury of a player like Lennon playing in front of him and mopping up all of his mistakes. Now, if we have managed to get Davies, then we have a far better defensive player than either Walker or Rose, so we are far better off and the best thing for Rose would probably be to see if Sunderland would like him back. He will be playing somewhere in the PL next season. He is not as poor as he has been made out by his own "supporters". All posters on here are free to disagree. COYS

I'll stick my head above the parapet and declare Davies is for the future, I was hoping we would sign a LB who is somewhat more proven, even our own Azza tore him a new one when we met Swansea, he is steady and may improve, nothing more at present.

As stated, not opposed to the signing, but his crossing accuracy is poor, he is not as quick as Rose, defensively Rose it is said in some articles has actually performed better. Conclusion, have we really solved a problem?, or are we more hoping we have solved a problem?.
Cider spurs
Cider, I agree with you on Maxim. Not sure how much he would cost. For the same reasons I am championing Schaer. Solid defensively with offensive stats that many MF'ers would love to have. We need contributions from everywhere. Offensive players need to break up play and defensive players need to create. That is the best way to make up for the fact that we will never have the resources to buy the top offensive players or to shell out ridiculous amounts on players like Shaw or Jones. If we are to get Davies for 8M, basically we sold Livermore and bought Davies. No net cost. Big upgrade at LB, no detrimental effect on our MF and Rose then becomes a player we can sell. Add Bony to that and Adebayor can go. Get in Schaer and sell Dawson. Really, for a minimal net cost and likely a huge salary savings, we'll have improved CB, LB and striker and gotten much younger. Cider, Davies is a better positional player than Rose and his decision-making, when going forward, is, IMO, superior. While I agree he will be far better in the future, I think he is already an upgrade on Rose and I'd be willing to bet Pochettino, in time, can make one or both of Davies and Fryers in to solid LB's. Muttley blowing the budget across the back line but not addressing the root of all our problems, lack of left sided winger, will only impose the same problems as last season on a new bunch of players!

With Erisken, drifting in field from the left, Rose asked to bomb forward to offer a threat, Verts had to move to the left to cover two positions which created a large gap between his CB partner and the midfield, if the midfielder dropped back we then had a disconnect between the defensive and offiensive sides of the team. Swapping Davies for Rose, and Lovern for Kaboul or Dawson won't alter this dynamic one bit. The team has to be set-up in a balanced formation before we start improving the individuals. I assume we have a limited budget so I again Identify two positions we need to sign, LW and LB if Bony is avialable then add that to the mix but stop the spending there, no correct that add a second LW to that list as cover for the first winger and then sell, Siggy and Holtby hard to see townsend staying if we sign two LW or prehaps Cabellos or Falque slot in and townsend is depolyed on the right to fight it out with Lennon!

Rose plays back up LB, Fryers becomes our back up CB and either Chiriches improves beside Verts or a full pre-season and new contract see a return of the form of Kaboul. dawson still kept around because of Kabouls delicate fitness. Either way the back line will become instantly stronger by signing a proper LW!

Unfortunately, until teams start being punished for their players diving, diving will continue. My suggestion remains, clear cut diving incident number one that is not able to be discerned by the on-field official (or ignored), player and team get a warning. Next time the player does it, player is suspnded for 1 game and the team may not field a player to replace him during his suspension. Thus the team would play the next game with 10 men. Next incident would see the player miss 3 games, the team, play the next three games without a replacement and the coach heavily fined. Further incidents would be dealt with even more severely, each time punishing the player and the team more. Players would have incidents drop off their "diving history" after three years. Punishes the player and the team.

Robben dove five times in the match against Mexico, three of which were obvious (IMO) yellow cards. The ref saw them and deemed them not to be fouls and not to be simulation. Considering the way he fell and looked immediately to the ref, a yellow card should have been brandished for someone on each of the three occasions. It's an utter embarrassment. He should be suspended for 5 games and that official should not be allowed to work any international FIFA matches for 2 years. COYS

Townsend, IMO, has the potential to be a top winger. He is, again, IMO, far better on the left where his crosses are far more accurrate and his cutting in i done to effect rather than as a matter of course. He also improved his defensive play as the season went on. I believe we have Chadli and Townsend to compete on the left (with Pritchard and McEvoy nipping at their heels), and Lennon and Lamela on the right (Fredericks on their heels or Walker if he cn't lear to defend). It is my hope that Lamela and Townsend do so well, and that pritchard, McEvoy and a few others are pushing so hard, that we can, within a year, sell Lennon. What I really like about Chadli and Lamela is that both are very good at tracking back and covering for their respective backs. Backside pressure greatly limits time, space and options for opposition attackers. This is an absolute must for any wingers employed in a system that expects full backs to get forward. COYS

peter- you let your dislike of Walker colour your view of Rose...they may very well be similar stats wise (I've not checked) but Walker is far better imo...they both make stupid mistakes but walker is a beast, his pace and power force the opposition back whilst Rose's faults draw them on (his engine only works in one direction btw)...If we sign Davies then how can the best thing be to sell rose when you think moPo can sort him out? surely if he has the mentality and skill he'll stay and reclaim 1st choice..won't he? As for a whipping boy ....looks like your candidate is walker...

onemore...Yes, these stats on these sites leave alot to be desired. I think Davies is an upgrade personally, but not yet at the all singing and dancing level many would be hoping for. I'll label him as a good prospect, and that's a good starting point for me.
Cider spurs
Now have we signed him, officially agreed a fee with Swansea, or has someone at the daily mail just got a "feeling in their waters"?
Slurms McKenzie
onemoreseason But like i said neither are cheap or expensive because it depends on what the players help their club achieve.
If you buy 5 players for £100 million & they help your club win the league & CL then that £100 million has paid for itself.

A good contract is a contract that pays for itself with top performances & trophy winning.
Even though i agree transfer are crazy an example is when Chelsea won the CL which then got them in the CL at our expense that earnt them a minimum,& yes minimum £70 million. It probably cost Spurs around £30-40 million such is the silly money of Champions league.

if Spurs get top 3 next season & automatic CL,then all their contracts for that year will have then paid for themselves,so would the managers.

All true fanny but at this stage of the season or closed season, we have two LBs, both had comparible seasons one English one Welsh, one reportedly worth 30 million and other worth eight. the values are based on their previous form and their future potential, one, both or neither may prove to be value for money signs but if the fees are accurate I fail to see where the 22million discrepancy lies at this stage.

Slurms - spending the whole budget on the defence isn't wholesale changes like last year. We could simply spend £50m on 2 players. I think Walker is good enough and Chiriches is versatile enough to cover him. I think Vertonghen and Chiriches are good enough but need strong competition and we clearly need a LB. Just adding a centre half and LB from the top drawer would be amazing for Spurs. We won't though. We'll do what Spurs have done for decades and spend 80% of our budget on midfielders and forwards and wonder why we concede a shedfull of goals.
muttley
Paying more money does not equate to better. Many drink champagne pretending they like it, deep down they'd much sooner a cold beer. No way at present is Shaw worth £22 million more than Davies, Utd in the future might do very well with his signing, but we could also at the fraction of the cost, same as all good businesses, we have tried to minimize risk, this time by financial outlay for a very similar product.
Cider spurs

Muttley since the season closed I have been calling for three signings LB, CB, and LW it looks like we maybe doing a deal with swansea to take Davies and Bony off their hands but we may have to give up Siggy for this to Ha-ha-ha I can't keep a straight face, how does Levy and Baldini manage to stay serious whne negotiating these deals?? I'd be reasonably happy with three or four signings this window as long as they address the weasknesses and imbalances int eh squad, we are light on the left I don't think either Townsend or chadli are the answer there, our CBs appear very delicate. I wouldn't make any changes at RB. we may need a Rw int eh January window or promote someone from the youth ranks.

If Daws goes, I wonder who will captain the side. Whilst I understand that Daws is maybe surplus to requirements now, part of me feels a little of the identity of the club will leave with him. We lost King, now it appears Daws, who do we have left who really understands what it is truly like to play for Spurs and all that it entails?.

you can look at the Vert's and Lloris' of the world, but they are unfortunately not going to be here long enough to build a genuine affection to the club IMO.
Cider spurs
shedboy2, on the contrary, I see what I see. Walker's defensive positioning is, IMO, far and away, the worst of any player I have seen in a spurs shirt in the last 5 years. He asn't a clue. But for his pace and the constant covering up by Lennon, he would look completely incometent. Naughton is a far better positional RB. Yes, Walker bursts forth. His crosses go nowhere and the moment he has to stop and think about what he is doing, he freezes up and the play stalls. I cannot recall another Spurs player having so many of his teammates with arms outstretched and heads shaking at yet another back pass when so much was on offer. His errors are colossal in nature (unlike BAE with his brain cramps) and his throw-ins seem to go to the opponents as often as to our players, if not thrown directly out the end for a goal kick. He is, IMO, the poorest player on Spurs when it comes to fundamentals. Shame as he is also one of the most athletically gifted players in the squad. If Pochettino can address that, he will be worth every farthing. COYS

pb - for the record, I don't agree. Dawson's positional sense and reading of the game is way worse than Waker's and he doesn't have the pace to get himself out of it. The reason Walker was better in the early days was because he had Gallas or King in his ear all game. Whilst they were both on their last legs they were both great communicators who improved the performance of their team-mates. That being said, last season I saw Walker start to pivot behind his centre halves and I've away far less petulant free-kicks. He definitely improved and there were way more petulant free kicks and bad position on the other side with Rose. I bet you can guess what position I played for 20 years of my life :-)
muttley
onemore...Ashley Cole?, maybe more of a finished article?.
Cider spurs
Kolarov?, surplus to requirements supposedly. A little more proven?.
Cider spurs
Muttley, we'll disagree on that then. Naughton being selected ahead of him also showed that I was not the only one thinking along those lines. Petulent fouls have never been a concern for Walker though, have they. He gives the ball away (crosses out of play, throw ins to the opposition, and is ever out ofposition hoping thathis speed will save him. Some times it does, some times not. Hardly acceptable for a team wishing to be in the CL. Not suggesting ose is my cup of tea either, merely that we have huge deficits on both sides ad I have a great deal of trouble singling out Rose while Walker makes even more ef a hash of it. As to Dawson, he is not quick, goes to ground far too easily, but he does read the play well. Where he falls down (often literally) is his lack of pace. He is also not great when he does not have someone solid on the left of him as he is poorgoing to that side. t's hardly fair to compare his reading of the game to his long-time partner, King, because he was one of the best readers of the game I have seen in a Spurs shirt. That said, he was crap when asked to cover to the right, which is why the two worked so well together. COYS
peterballb
peterballb, you haven't suggested anything of the sort in my time here that's why I felt compelled to answer you. As you probably know I go to most games to watch the Spurs leaving me little time to watch other games or the highlights on the telly. I've grown to depend on my own thoughts and what I have seen 'live': I have become quite cynical towards the 'stats' and the pundits' pov! The stats, such as, say Defoe had 100% of the chances: sounds great going and then to say the score is 0-0 and Spurs had only one chance on target and 9 off puts a different perspective to it. I can't say much about Jenas, Pav, Livermore as they were before my time on here. From the other connections I can honesty there was a 50-50 split when it came to Pav and wasn't aware of a division as far as Livermore was concerned. With Rose, I say what I see from the stands; his shots have been frequent as wayward - this is the reason for my nickname of Carlos for him; In my time as a Spurs Supporter I have yet call anyone a donkey other than the drunken one over the road. There was no need for a 'whipping boy' last year - was there ? I thought it was a debacle of season - yet I don't if anyone was 'thrown under the bus' (rather unfortunate term to use) and as has been shown, no has been. Only the bus driver was asked to leave since he didn't have the appropriate license!

As for the facts you mention; to compare Walker to Rose is a non starter for me really; to say their mistakes led to goals could be, as Clough used to say, starts with the forwards - with Soldado / Defoe losing the ball upfield - they could be the liable ones to conceding of the goals. Walker certainly had Azza to back up so he was justified to go on the attack... if Rose didn't as you say, what made him decide to go on the attack ? If he didn't have the nrg to come back, then why go on the attack in the first place? As I and others have stated that it is the other factors that doesn't have stats on, such as attitude, the growl look, the shrug of shoulders, complete lack of awareness, seemingly lack of accountability, all things not probably as clear when seen on TV, that leads me to believe Rose is not good enough to wear the shirt of Spurs. I don't know why you feel it necessary to put supporters in inverted commas, hopefully it's not to suggest that those who dare to criticise shouldn't be regarded as such; hope I am wrong otherwise we would be in the state of 'accept what you are given - and pay a good price for it' ... finally just for a peace of mind Rose was not booed at any games I was in attendance - especially at Stoke with his gladiatorial winning headed goal. I cheered Rose's efforts off the pitch then not because he was Danny Rose but because he was representing Spurs - unfortunately this one supporter does not think he is worthy of wearing the Spurs shirt based on his performance of 2014/15. Peter- we'll have to disagree..Rose has been far worse than Walker..positionally, heading, tackling, passing, not as much pace forward- non existent going back, first touch, he always needs cover, they both have poor crosses but Walkers land within sight of the guy he's aiming at etc etc...he's no where near as good as walker...and that's with Walker having a poor season (second half especially)...

I can't back against my boys, with or without our boy Bentaleb... 4-1 win! 4-2? 1-0?
MAN ON!

Highgatespur
Cambiasso is not a player we need, we have enough midfielders already and don't need someone when we have better players already.
Kong
Tend to agree tottingham10
Highgatespur
the guy cant even move now.seriously,is that what he will teach the players.how to be frozen statues?
tarkan mardinCOYS
If he is coming to pass on his experience and play in the cups then fine but he can't be coming to be in the first team in the league.
Kong
As I see it Highgatespurs, you ignore Walker's defensive lack of ability while exaggerating arose's and you grossly inflate awalker's effectiveness while dismissing Rose's. You ignore stats. I don't. While I won't let stats override what my eyes see, I also will recognize that sometimes we see what we want. Walker is fast. That's it. He, Naughton and Rose are all basically the same age. Why one can be coached to play better but the others can't is beyond me. Walker has Srna ability yet plays like he is Paul Staltieri. I expect better. The ability is clear. The realization of the talent is not there. Rose is a LW asked to play LB because of organizational needs. Naughton has always had to play on the left as he is better out of position than Walker. I have been hearing for years that Walker's football brain would eventually catch up to him. How much more time are you willing to give him? What exactly did his shrug of the shoulders when beat on the sideline against Chelsea or his lost look after his header right in to the middle of the pitch. You look for it in one but not in the other. I look at the teammates. They show obvious frustration towards Walker. Haven't seeen tgat directed at Naughton and have only seen it a couple of times towards Rose. No stats in that. All body language from the player and his teammates. I'll suggest that Pochettino has work to do on all three of them. They are all a long way off and none of the three, as they played last season, are good enough. Davies, if he is coming, and Fryers are also raw talents. Just three years younger. For them, I'll show patience.

As for my use of "supporters", it is not specifically directed at anyone. Much like AVB, Rose was tarred with a certain brush before the first game last season. Hardly as a result of his on field exploits for Spurs. Anyway, we won't agree. Sufficed to say if LB and RB are as inconsistent this year as last season, it will be a very long season. COYS
peterballb
Kong, probably the thought behind it is we need someone with real winning experience - we don't have anyone... (like Gallas, Davids and Klinsmann)
Highgatespur
Off to coach hockey. Will watch the games later. COYS

Makes sense Highgate.

did anyone watch cambiasso last season?well i did.no doubting he was once a terrific player but not now.he was never the fastest in his prime, now footballers walk quicker than him.Argentinian tele is saying even though theirs offers on the table no one has come near the 75 thousand a week that we are prepared to offer.
tarkan mardinCOYS
highgate-what nonsense
tarkan mardinCOYS
No wonder he is coming to us if we are offering £75k per week.

Really enjoying this game. Well done Algeria. May regret not taking their chances and often lacking with the final ball. Could go either way. Can't see it reaching penalties.

onemorereason. welcome! I hate this talk of players not fitting the "perm" style of play! this is the style of play that the lower echelons of the league endorse! the top 6 or 7 should be breaking the mould. playing with flair and class, guile and talent. in short, out smarting the bully boy tactics stoke and co. employ! City, Chelsea, Pool, Arse etc don't play that way, and nor should we! deck perm experience and perm style! I would support palace or sunderland otherwise! I want style and class! "Prem" style football wins Feck all! just look at England!
Dublin Hotspur
Oh, and perm style football doesn't win the EL, CL or WC! Carling cup maybe!. agree with some of your posts today though, but not on this "PL proven" before we buy nonsense! I have a bee in my helmet about this topic of English / Welsh, overpriced upgrades, vs proper talent at the moment….apologies!
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin, Algeria's #13 looks a clone of Sandro !
Highgatespur
just trying to keep top ten in the league with those 2 posts btw ...
Dublin Hotspur
tottingham10 I'd see that as an impact like Davids et al really - if that's what he thinks he needs - then all good!!!
Highgatespur
come on you spurs, we are due a cup FFS
123spurs
Unlucky - team performance of the tournament for me (Algeria) and best match so far... unlucky Algiers....
Highgatespur
Dublin, aspire higher !!! LOL!
Highgatespur
No shame in losing that match Algeria. Heads held high. Well done! Fought 'til the VERY end. England could learn a thing or two from them.
Critical_Spur
tarkan, that thinking may be half our problem. taking 3 swansea players to spurs! forward thinking, or mid table calling! Bony decent, but why drag us down with 3 from there? same allies to S'ton! coaching is our key, not bottom 10 perm players!
Dublin Hotspur
If this was a nonsense thread (as it should be!) there should be no problems with whatever views on whomever may or may not be joining us, linked with us, totally unrelated to us, etc.. Where's Coops when you need him!
Critical_Spur

DS gotta give credit to TS for givin bentelab a chance other wise we wont be talking about him now at the world cup. he played alot better then the so called paulinho and capooo (spelling)
123spurs
onemorereason-spot on.never bought into this experience crap.the players will just laugh at him when hestarts playing unfortunately
tarkan mardinCOYS
oops DH
123spurs
onemore. fair point, but those PL clubs playing latter stage CL didn't play traditional PL "Style" football with PL "experienced" players..bar Pool IMO! core of teams built around European players!
Dublin Hotspur
bentelab got further then england in the WC
123spurs
Martin Samuel ‏@themartinsamuel 6 hrs #Spurs about to sign Esteban Cambiasso. If they can just go back in time to 2006 they'll have one of the World's best players there!
tarkan mardinCOYS
Tarkan why are you quoting a lifelong whamboyz fan and spurs hater ? Ridiculous ....
Highgatespur
moaning about botton half players, look where top4 players got us, soldado, caoupoue..paulinho, lamela( give him this season) MAG7 100 MILL.
123spurs
who have everton, LB baines poor at WC, chris coleman iris, jalekia ? poor for england, lost best player fellini, team play is a lot beter then egos like verts an paulinho

not saying that our more illustrious midfielders are setting whl alight but this simply does not make sense.WTF next rio ferdinand, john o shea, the new mid 30s club
tarkan mardinCOYS
so robben dives......then admits he dived, so why not ban him, make him stop cheating and miss next game, football is at an all time low now
123spurs
tarkan, they must have forgotten you when they were deciding who to appoint, what are you on about ? These are just speculation, make believe, if it is simpler to understand.... Ferdinand nor Oshea have signed - that was just paper talk.... Give the man a chance will ya ?
Highgatespur
123, agree about Robben and the diving, see Evra today holding that player ? But IMO one of best starts to a WC in living memory...
Highgatespur
damm ment seamous coleman ...damm beers lol

highgate-this is being reported by argentinian tv,who broke the poch story btw and everybody lathed onto it.thats what worries me
tarkan mardinCOYS
latched-i mean
tarkan mardinCOYS
after the game they should be a panal about diving etc....if found guilty after the game....hense a 3 match ban, only way to stop it, its gone to far now, no didnt i was working, grabbing shirt in box is ok ,,,,,,,grabbibg shirt outsidethe box = FREE KICK
123spurs
tarkan, unless I missed it, can you post a link/reference to this (TV) report?....just curious.
Critical_Spur
if we can get average+ players playing as a team for eachother ( everton), is a lot bette them a team of so called of the MAG7 we bought.
123spurs
Must admit, can't make out what is going on in centre midfield at Spurs. On paper we have Sandro, Paulinho, Capoue, Bentaleb, Dembele, Carroll and Veljkavic. On top of that we have the more attacking Eriksen, Holtby, Chadli and Siggy giving us 10 players who can play centre mid. That's assuming Livermore goes. Not sure why we're being linked with Cambiaso and Schneiderlin. That seems ridiculous to me when you look at our defensive options. Let's hope it's just paper talk.
muttley
tuned in to watch Algeria for a full 90 mins for the first time to cast an eye over Bentaleb and see his WC performances that people have been raving about....guess the coach must have seen the same misplaced passes I saw in the 10mins I watched them last time....still even without our prodigy Algeria ran them close, good game for a neutral...
shedboy2
Cambiasso - makes no sense...it's not like having a Davids, it's Nelson, Saha territory....we don't have a squad place for a 33 year old. He isn't a player that will inspire our youngsters nor guide the likes of Pauli, Dembele, Capoue or Sandro in a game...no PL experience, no affiliation with Spurs just not needed...if there is any truth in it it will see MoPo off to a terrible start....
shedboy2
sorry he'll be 34 once the new season starts....do you think the players will look up to someone who they have to do all the running for? When the coaches are saying 'look how well he keeps the ball'...the players will be thinking 'I could keep the ball like that if someone else would do my running'....far from being inspiring it would be a divisive signing...
shedboy2
Whats wrong with being 34? Its not like hes going to play with a zimmer frame, beisdes these stories usually say Spurs but mean "a London club" so expect QPR or Fulham or West ham to be unveiling a new slaphead in the coming weeks!
Slurms McKenzie
nothing wrong with being 34...some exceptional athletes can still compete at that age in the PL but not many...truth is age slows you down, increases the chance of injury and makes you less competitive...one of the arts in managing a football team is making sure a players legs go on someone else's pitch...you don't want to be caught paying thousands of pounds a week in wages plus medical bills for a player making zero contribution on the pitch...
shedboy2
One thing Cambiasso is renowned for is hard work and determination. Whilst the prem is played at a quicker tempo, he still started 32 Serie A games for Inter last season.

Could be a great guy to have around the place to inspire some of the aforementioned grit and determination so often found wanting last season. Let's be honest, is it not questionable as to whether Sandro will get back to his best, in fairness, he was often found wanting last season and guilty of conceding silly free kicks as he was passed by many players. Injuries of course played a part, but at what level will he return at?, Capoue for me is far the better option for the future IMO.
Cider spurs
If MP thinks he will be good for our squad why should I argue with him. If he wants him then he should get him, if not it's probably only media hype AGAIN
