Lloris Speculation Starts!

It had to happen that talk of Hugo Lloris would start as soon as France went out of the World cup and no doubt the same will happen to Jan Vertongen once Belgium lose.

Hugo, who has had an impressive World Cup, hardly settled our nerves or media speculation as he was a little vague over his future as he was quoted saying: "I do not know my future. I have a three-year contract with Tottenham and this is the most important thing. Currently, I am focused only on my holiday, the ability to relax, then we will see in the next few days."

Once again with a new manager and our having only ability to guess potential buyers intentions, we have no definitive clue as to whether Lloris wants to leave, Spurs would be happy to cash in, when his value might be higher after a good tournament. or even if there is genuine serious interest from the likes of PSG, Madrid or whoever.

From Spurs perspective, I feel they have to look to keep him, even if he refuses to sign a new and improved deal this summer. As he himself is quoted, he has three years remaining on his contract, therefore you would think that pressure will only be forced to get him to sign up or be sold next summer, when his value will start to decline once he enters the final 24 months of his contract

Once again what seems to be essential for Spurs is that they retain some form of stability and a hint that they are looking to stay with the elite group of clubs. If rumours are correct that we are selling Michael Dawson and a few others, the need to keep others that might be willing to give us another year is a must and unless they are looking to force a move or someone offers a staggeringly big sum, we have to keep hold of players of the quality of Hugo as a statement that we retain ambition for the Champions league places...

Reckon, he is one of the best and it would be wrong for us to assume that he'll stay with the club no matter what. I think he will give the club one more to get to Champions League and then cheerio if not achieved. I say 'fair enough' he serves to play at the highest level.
Highgatespur
Whether we like the players or not - the club does need to move on players like Dawson, Kaboul, Rose and Lennon within the year asap if we are to show our desire to move on to the next stage ....
Highgatespur
Highgate, the CLUB needs to move on and move quick..... Full Stop! I can only digest this WC distraction so much. Time is nearing where we need to be visible in what our aspirations are. As usual, all our rivals are moving in the market. Are Poch and the gang still re-arranging the furniture?
Critical_Spur
Nearly as bad as the media on here. We just love stoking the fire. Hope it's just the press. Lloris hasn't said he wants out, are we not just doing the same as on the Sandro article. Must be something to do with being a SPurs supporter, we always seem to make players think about leaving.
longtimespur
There are those players that prefer to leave their options open (the best ones) and then those that re vocal about their commitment to Spurs (the average ones). Regardless of what Lloris has/hasn't said, he falls in the former category and his comments are very openly worded. Make of it what you will, but until the player/manager/club makes the appropriate statement, the media and the fans are bound to speculate. Shall we talk WC?!
Critical_Spur
Zakaria Bakkali's Instagram account features Images of WHL, he was touring the stadium on the 04/07, could our first signing be close??? Being a left-sided winger he would offer us an outstanding dribbler with a turn of pace and is the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Eredivise aged just 17!
Shefford-Spurs
We'll soon have a Verts article!
Critical_Spur
LTS, both Critical and I predicted this but can't blame Ox for putting this up - he's just being topical! I do think it's a 'professional' hazard for us if we keep saying that we need to be realistic in our aspirations and aim to finish in the top 8 ! None of the 'top' players will want to settle for that... and neither will the paying supporters! Anyway it'll be the turn for the 'Belgian exodus' article soon, probably tomorrow lunch time ?
Highgatespur
Loser Levy is in his element right now! This is what Mr Byrite thrives off as the summer ENIC Auction house goes into full swing. The haggling over the price of players. The excitement of the big sell, which will raise Fantasy Football pocket money for the apprentice. Who get's sold first? Will it be the mighty Sandro? or Lloris? or Verts? or Pauli? Or perhaps a surprise bid will come in for Eriksen that will be to good for Danny Baby to turn down? One thing is for sure though, Levy will haggle and barter and weal and deal as he does each and every summer! IT'S ENIC AUCTION HOUSE TIME! THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE THFC EMPTY TROPHY CABINET, NO CL, NO NEW STADIUM CALENDER...
Pele10
LET THE BIDDING BEGIN!
Pele10
Pele10... I'll give you a penny for your thoughts. No more, no less.
MAN ON!
longtime ... hear hear to that!
Geofspurs
Sell 'em all. Sell 'em all for a profit and play the kids or the Ladies, or both. I'd pay to see that.
MAN ON!
Geof, I do wish some people thought of moving on though, themselves - don't you ?
Highgatespur
I'm not sure why we should be diving into the market just yet, Critical. Mauricio has yet to take his first training session. Let them catch up on their hols, share a few pictures and anecdotes, then it's goodbye so and so, hello Modric and Bale or, whoever.
MAN ON!
I’ll drink to that ... hello Modric!
Geofspurs
pele10, just for you.... Levy dealing with transfers:

Easy come easy go -- will you let me go?
Bismillah! No! We will not let you go! -- Let him go!
Bismillah! We will not let you go! -- Let him go!
Bismillah! We will not let you go! -- Let me go!
Will not let you go! -- Let me go! Never!
Never let you go! -- Let me go!
Never let me go! -- ooo

No, no, no, no, no, no, no!
Oh Mama mia, Mama mia, Mama mia! Let me go!
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me!

Critical_Spur
How does MP know what he wants until he’s had time to study the opinions on VS. How do the players know what they want until they’ve also had time to study VS to see where they will be playing next season. Give them time ... there’s a lot to study!
Geofspurs
That's a Freddie Suarez tune, isn't it.
MAN ON!
Pele 10 you are on form today I will give you that.
cynicspur
Pele is on form no matter what. Even if we transferred him to the gooners, he'd hit the ground running! He's very consistent performer.
Critical_Spur
Off optic
FiFA to look at the Neymar's incident ... good.
Highgatespur
apologies: topic not optics!!!!
Highgatespur
If Lloris goes, I won't shed a tear. Same goes for Vertonghen. There are plenty around to fill their boots.
Shannon
you don't get better by selling your better players....you may make a profit and sew a little for the next 'big thing' but we won't ever be a force on the pitch if we continue in the same vein we have for 3 years...
shedboy2
shannon if there are plenty around to fill their boots - why don't the top teams get them instead of dealing with Levy? truth is there are not many better and not many better that we can get...
shedboy2
Lloris is a young keeper, an international captain with 3 years left on his contract. We should relax as even if we lose him we'll be sitting on at least £30m. We should keep him though as he is the best keeper in the Premiership. If Buffon can go for 54m euro's in 2001 then we simply play hard ball and get any prospective clubs to show us the money. As for Lloris, he needs to practice his kicking and then he'll be the best in the business.
muttley
Well, no Dembele or Chadli starting. Keep it tight boys. Belgium to win! The media will have to defer the Verts rumours until the next round.
Critical_Spur
Pele, tell me a club we have sold to who don't have all of the following.....1. The ability to pay much higher wages 2. Higher prestige in the game and a much larger fan base 3. Guaranteed champions league football
spurticus87
Come on Argies!!!
Highgatespur
Come on Verts!!!
Highgatespur
Great point spurticus87, that's why the CL is imperative ....
Highgatespur
What a goal!!!
Highgatespur
Shedboy, have we forgotten the glaring mistakes that both Vertonghen and Lloris made last season? Then Vertonghen said he wants to go to a CL club. I'm not impressed with him especially.
Shannon
The official website has put the pics of first training session. Everyone looks happy and jolly!
Highgatespur
vertonghen is way over rated.people need to admit this
tarkan mardinCOYS
I don't see what is wrong with players saying that they want to play in the Champions League ... shows aspiration and desire rather that than say happy with playing in Europa or even nothing!
Highgatespur
I would hate to lose Lloris, since breaking into the team he has been outstanding. Never seen a keeper get so many man of the matches. Our track record in the transfer windows recently has been awful and we must keep our best players this term. That includes both Lloris and Verts. I would also look to appoint one of them as captain. We do still need to out a few players with Daws, Naughton, Kaboul, Lennon, Chadli, Soldado and Benny the first out the door. Also I think we can afford to ship out one or two of the centre midfield players. I think we then need another centre back, left back, a deep lying ball playing centre midfield player, right or left winger depending on where Poch uses Erikksen and Lamela this season and a centre forward. I'm hoping that Lamela really steps it up this season and from the look of things with the extra training put in and the encouraging things coming from him, he will be the player we hoped. Almost like a new signing. The owners have to back this manager and try and bring in his top transfer targets. In the past I do not think this has happened. It certainly did not with AVB and we all know that Harry wanted Cahill and Tevez and got Ryan Nelson and Saha.
nothappyharry
There's nothing wrong with players saying they want CL. But when its their mistakes that kept us out of the CL, it's hard to swallow.
Shannon
lack of discipline from vertonghen again says the commentator
tarkan mardinCOYS
Shannon, I would agree if that was the overriding issue...
Highgatespur
Thank you high gate! I agree 100%, how can you blame the likes of Bale for wanting to play for Real Madrid, it's the pinnacle of football! Hot weather, good football, 100 thousand watching every week, treble the money, champions league medals and competing for the league every season! I'd be more worried if the players didn't aspire to achieve these heights! Ambition is critical and if it stops with us we have problems, just ask Bentley
spurticus87
How is Clark Carlisle, not even aChampionship player qualified to be the expertise at WC 1/4 final ? Sam Matterface attempting to act as a Lpool agent again ?
Highgatespur
onemorereason - I wouldn't accept £20m. We'd end up spending £15m on it on someone like Krul or Begovic and it wouldn't be worth it. I wouldn't accept anything less than £30m until next summer and even then I'd probably want about that much. We're talking about one of the best 5 keepers in the world.
muttley
Likewise spurticus87....
Highgatespur
I don't really know what you mean Highgatespur, but let me add that the guy I really have it in for is Vertonghen rather than Lloris. Besides his many errors last season (eg, Chelsea and Liverpool) he has often displayed a lack of defensive discipline and also poor sportsmanship (he got a couple of opposition players sent off with play acting) that I for one do nt like to see at Spurs. I will probably be accused of naivety but just because professional players engage in gamesmanship doesn't mean have to like it.
Shannon
Peter Barnes - we only need 8 homegrown players if we choose to have a squad of 25. If we settled for 22-23 we'd still have Archer, Vlekjovic, Bentaleb, Pritchard and Kane to top up the squad to 27-28. I'm actually comfortable with that as long as there is balance is in the squad. I'd be happy with Walker, Davies, Lennon, Townsend and one of Fryers or Rose with guys like Dawson, Siggy, Naughton raising funds for better players. I also think that Chiriches can play RB.
muttley
peter Barnes - agh the name brings back memories of one of the best wingers I had the privilege to see - are you from Manchester ? I'd agree but I do think that they are not really adding any value to the club maybe a leap of faith to those graduating from U21 might help to propel the club to the glory years ! Like Barnes did to City for a short while !
Highgatespur
Shannon, you have just missed this debate on this front page. Just on a similar note about sportsmanship, did you have the same feeling for VdV, Bale, Defoe and Klinsmann and probably most of the professional players ? I'd rather rehearse that... The overriding factors, for me, was the lack of leadership, understanding and incomprehensible deployment of the players for the failures of the last 3 years ...
Highgatespur
Hi all, I have been missing for a while, finally moved to Phoenix !

Hope all is well with everyone on VS.

Lloris, hopefully will stay, for me Kaboul Chirices and Verts need massive improvements in their fitness and concentration to remain. Dawson, I would keep, for continuity and his level of fitness.

Would really like to see some purchases though, not alone on that I think.

Get Bony in also, enjoy seeing him play, Remy would be good also but heiswaiting on Arsenal. So lets find a younger version and perhaps he may regret not jumping at the chance to play at WHL .

Really hoping we thrash the Wham boys in the first game.

coys from Phoenix 113f phew ! Really not used to this.

ro6ertj
OK, I might have missed previous debates. I've been away, so I won't argue the point. But that Vertonghen still makes me angry. He clearly has ability and I was very pleased when we signed him but I have become disenchanted with him for many reasons. Even in the WC he has made similar mistakes for his country, which led to him being dropped for a game. He gave away a pen in their first match because of poor discipline.
Shannon
good cross put in by jan their.i actually would consider him playing in midfield.he imo would be suited their
tarkan mardinCOYS
That was dirty by Kompany...
Highgatespur
Because I always strive to add balance to my debate, may I please just say that I think Vert's has played some great football today with some absolute wicked crosses to boot. He's been class in the main, long may it continue.
Cider spurs
Shannon - I hear you. Vertonghen went from Prem team of the season to just another centre half in the Prem. He was underwhelming last season but the talent is clearly there. I think it was assumed by many that he would be snapped up by City to partner Kompany but I'm not sure Pellegrini would want him. He was also linked with Barcelona but I'm not convinced he's at that level. The best thing he can do is get his head down at Spurs and prove to the footballing world that he is as good as people think. Where I do have some sympathies for him is having Dawson and Rose either side of him. He ended up drifting out left as he clearly had no confidence in Rose to defend his zone. So did Chiriches when he was in the side. That obviously left him too far away from his centre back partner. The longer the season went on the worse it got so let's hope Poch can sort it.
muttley
well done ro6ertj - welcome back - hope you get used to the seering heat and the AC of course!!!
Highgatespur
YID ARMY at the game!!!
Highgatespur
Praising Verts ? not allowed Cider !!! LOL
Highgatespur
Shannon...Nothing wrong with saying it how you see it. Many Spurs fans as well as neutrals saw Vert's somewhat wobble for whatever reason last season. Many , like myself thought it was as a result of where asked to play and under who's stewardship, stay true to your beliefs, no wrong or right, just merely opinions.
Cider spurs
Chadli's chance to impress
muttley
Highgate...Never said I did not rate Vert's, only questioned his attitude regarding Captain material. As you know, something that was written copious times by the media and spoke about by pundits alike. Never said I did not rate him, did say I did not want him as Captain if he was to repeat his poor attitude problem. Same as many!.
Cider spurs
Chadli ? gerrhim off, he's rubbish !!! Oh sorry that must be Hazard - what a waste of a tournament.... Come on Chadders!!
Highgatespur
Highgate...I'm actually quite excited if we can have this Vert's back playing, he does look good in this match, I think paired up with a strong RCB, he will be awesome.
Cider spurs
Cider - I was joking man!! thought we sorted iy ... I was joking!!
Highgatespur
Cider, never in doubt ... but we have got to get that LB sorted ... otherwise same problems will arise! No further news on Lovren ? reckon Alderweireld might be wearing the famous shirt with the cockerel on it ... Brilliant posting by Muttley re Verts recently...
Highgatespur
Highgate...Not aimed at you, but obviously your name was mentioned as a result of your post me. Merely a statement as to yet again in a way be positive about our players, but remind why i get so annoyed. Vert's once more is showing his quality, something I'm so chuffed about, but slightly irked that he performed so poorly last season when miffed with LB role and managerial appointment. Not aimed at you mate, as stated, and hopefully correct in my thinking, we are too respectable to be other than friendly when discussing all things Spurs related.
Cider spurs
Well done to the Argies - well done Verts!! - Belgians froze like the French yesterday I thought.

Let the Belgian trio version begin....
Highgatespur
Cider, I don't understand the first part of your last post ... I thought muttley's post re Verts was so apt btw. Hope the Mrs is nearly all recovered....
Highgatespur
Highgate...Most probably just me. Missus is slowly recovering, been a long haul, today saw me able to nip out and catch up with friends over a few jars. Thanks for asking, most appreciated...On a football note, I thought Argentina upped their game somewhat today and were not so reliant on Messi. Are you still going for a Argentina vs Brazil final?.
Cider spurs
Cider, always respect for you mate... good news regarding the mrs. Don't wait to be asked keep on with the updates , address them to me if that makes you more at ease. Pleased with Argentinatoday... Mascherano showed again what a DM ought to bedding... thought Jan had a great game - unfortunate ricochet for the goal - fancy Messi missing that chance... Despite last night still think it's going to be Argies v Brazil in the final... such a shame about Neymar. Thought Iran played well though! Going for the Ricans next ... btw what did yo mean in your last post ? Take care
Highgatespur
wilmots can join Roy in the hat for worst WC manager...what a waste of talent! I really hope Pool have done their money on Origi...he could be done under the trade descriptions act calling himself a striker! ...Shannon- all players make mistakes...but class is permanent...I don't see Stoke coming in for these players...keep our best players, it's the only way to improve...
shedboy2
Those waiting to see MRP in action and Kyle Walker in goggles... enjoy

Highgatespur
Highgate...Your post..."Praising Vert's? Not allowed Cider." Rightly or wrongly, I thought it was jest aimed at me after my comments regarding Vert's and his attitude last season. Only mentioned your name as a result of you mentioning mine, but my post was not directed at you alone, more me mentioning your name as to say Highgate, this is what I'm saying in general. As in Highgate...I don't believe what they are saying, or, Highgate, I've seen people say this. That is the only reason for mentioning your name, because you first mentioned mine as if to say, Cider in general, you must not praise Vert's, I got what you were saying, and was just trying to reply to you but incorporate my reply meaning many, as I thought you were. ;-)
Cider spurs
Shedboy2 Yup except for his goal I can't see a £10m striker - are still in for him? Must say Lukaku did well again after coming on ...
Highgatespur
I get what I'm trying to relay, but no doubt it is as clear as mud LOL!. Bloody Thatchers Gold, Lager and Vodka!.
Cider spurs
Cider, no worries mate. Thank you for explaining! Ready for the game now... Come on you Ricans!!! Lovely place, lovely people!
Critical - you all set ?

Here's an idea for a new thread: team based on WC performance....
Highgatespur
Anyway...Has anybody posted that Lloris' house is up for sale. Shock horror, he must be off!. LOL!.
Cider spurs
Thought so, Cider - but no worries got the gist!!!
Highgatespur
Highgate...That is a wonderful idea regarding team based on WC performance. Quickly thinking about it, and avoiding stats, it actually could be very varied and thought provoking.

Didn't like his attitude Cider - he was leaning in the tunnel! LOL
Highgatespur
As for your Cider Dublin, I don't know what your preference is...I know Coopsie was a Strongbow man, I have grown up on the Green Farmhouse, and as a session drink firstly the Blackthorn, later replaced by Thatchers Gold. We used to have a Mental Asylum round these parts, pretty much filled up by old Cider drinkers. If you like a carbonated Cider, I prefer the Gold as opposed to the Bulmers, but you might be drinking that on draught over in Ireland, same as me with the Gold over here. Either way, well worth a pint or two, and see what other variations of the Thatchers you can get, Heritage is a great farmhouse made by them, but Heck's and Wilkins are Diamond round here. Enjoy!.
Cider spurs
I would hate to like anything with that name on it Dublin and cider !
Highgatespur
Highgate...LOL!...Tunnel leaning was even a step too far for me, what next, wrong haircut, shopping in the wrong supermarket. I'll keep it to on the pitch, and always remember to praise where possible, believe it or not, I don't like questioning my teams commitment, but did always promise myself that I would be true to what i was feeling at the time of writing.
Cider spurs
Highgate...Are you a John Smith's man?. LOL!.
Cider spurs
Cider wouldn't put it past anyone to criticise like that ... I 'll use the term shedboy2 often uses "form is temporary, class is permanent"; (I've yet to see the tunnel scene! But seen plenty of players leaning and talking in the tunnel since!)...;-)
John Smith - great leader sadly denied his chance to be one of the greatest PM. No doubt one of my choices if I swede to drink alcohol!

Hope he gets to use them for scoring gaols in the the first team...

Apology if already mentioned on other threads...For those of you who are not in London... There was an article in London Evening Standard paper on Spurs new stadium... Archway Steel said they want spurs to do well, yet they are holding out for max. compo..hmmm . As to spurs playing at Brighton.. or Ipswich.. forget it.. if so then THFC should either refund ST and keep us on the ST Priority lists for new stadium seats..And make travel costs free... Wembley is where we should be during new stadium build. Then our players will always feel at home, and not be scared to play in cup finals there... I hope !

tarkan mardinCOYS
well done Costa Rica - well played .... so unlucky!
Highgatespur
Let's look at it another way : Holland and LvG couldn't beat Costa Rica after 120 minutes of football. Yup.
Highgatespur
Cheats. Krul should have been booked for his nonsense, Robben should have been off for his diving. Night all
Dublin Hotspur
I know most will disagree but the changing goalie just for the pens is another step of killing the game's sportsmanship and taken the game into the realms of American football and the kicker system. Shame...
Highgatespur
The right team won over 120 mins won. It's just a shame they had to win by penalties. I agree that Krul should have been booked though. Total lack of class by him and Van Gaal to have that all prepared in advance. Here's a little quote for the pair of them "The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It is nothing of the kind. The game is about glory, it is about doing things in style and with a flourish". Clearly not for Krul.
muttley
Thanks muttley whilst not in total agreement with you about the right team winning.... anyway excellent use of the quote and thankfully he isn't coming to WHL!!! Another step backwards for the game tonight.
Highgatespur
Well, I had a great run with Costa Rica. Thanks Cider. It was fun and was getting emotionally attached to the team! A country with 1/10th of the population of England gave Holland a run for their money. Seemingly little depth in squad. Can genuinely enjoy the rest of the WC as a neutral.

BTW, This van Gaal bloke (a Spurs reject), I am beginning to dislike him! Let's see how he copes in England. Some said he'll bring the best out of Van Persie. In fact brought the worse out of him against Rica! Two Vans are all double Dutch to me!

Highgate, thanks for the training video post. Excitement just starting. COYS!

Classic Critical - what a show by the Ricans !!! Not the 31st rated anymore aye ?! Come on Argies and Brazil for the final!!

I think with LVG we will see another fergie type personality. If he was our coach, we may have won something. Not sure if want it like that! See all the winking between him and Robben over the frees that were being won? And kruls taunting? Not nice. I'm reckoning under poch we might win something anyway, so no loss, and I'll be delighted. Let's make sure we keep lloris now. Not sure I want krul near spurs in any form! Well done coasts rica though. Battled hard but not enough chances on the night!
Dublin Hotspur
Critical...Glad you enjoyed your run with Costa Rica in the WC. I for one did not see that coming, thought they gave a very good account of themselves.
Cider spurs
I've alwYs liked watching holland, and in particular Robben, but his antics and dramatics this WC have really turned me against him, and thus holland. Shame. Now will I shout for the other remaining european team or go Argentinian. Decisions.
Dublin Hotspur
Unfortunately Dublin it's only going to get worse re: diving until FIFA comes down hard, which I doubt they would have the balls to do. I honestly think it can be done with the technology we have. A panel of experts can look at the incident after the game has played. With so many cameras they can see from different angles. If the player has dived, the player shouldn't be fined. The team will instead will lose points which can be the difference between winning the title, avoiding relegation or replaying a cup game with all money going to the team who suffered at the hands of cheating. Imagine the fans, coach, players and the chairman's digust if a player was found cheating and cost them the game. Perhaps a thread is needed for this subject but I think this could be a way of stopping the cheats. COYS!

Good morning Cider, who are the last four remaining in the 'sweep'? Amazingly another ref coming under stick due to his 'weakness' of using the powers of the card !
Highgatespur
Costa Rica did very well to get that far bad you can see it in their emotions that it was a dream come true getting that far. Holland deserved it overall but their defence is not all that, interesting semi final line up as there is no stand out team. Krul did his job, dived the right way for every penalty, don't like is taunting but if that was my team then the result is the main thing.
Kong
Good post aka. Get scribbling!! Lol
Dublin Hotspur
Morning Highgate...We have as follows:-

Italian Yiddo (Argentina) vs Metal Spurs (Netherlands)

Shedboy (Brazil) vs South L/Derry Spurs (Germany)

As for the ref, thought they have been quite sub standard in alot of the matches.
Cider spurs
Great posting james ... Had a similar discussion a while back with Geof, I think. FIFA and the PL for that matters have the powers to stamp out diving and hugging or the grappling of the players at the corners and free kicks... Punish the team rather than players will more than go a long way to eradicate this. But they never seem to do this just words !!!
Highgatespur
Next step, will a goalie substitution or a penalty taker substitution just before a penalty is taken be okay then ? Ridiculous IMO a further decline of the sporting code.... And here comes the kicker as in NFL, next step ?
Highgatespur
Highgate, if tottenham were 1 min away from a penalty shoutout and soldado was on the bench, would you see it wrong putting him on just for the penalties?
Kong
Thanks Cider. It'd be great to see IY back on here - backing his team all the way as it were !!!
Highgatespur
onemore...yes have to agree, ugly performances or not, the fancied teams still have managed to progress in the main. Spain was a surprise, but you'd have to think that the 4 semi finalists are no great surprise.

I think Germany will do Brazil, as for the Dutch, will they be the next European side to bottle it?. I don't want the Dutch to win the WC, poor sportsmanship and arrogant manager to boot. Of course we would have liked LVG, not hard having both Sherwood and AVB prior, but quickly from the outset when he refused to commit it was obvious he was playing us, on that note, hope he loses and fails at United. ;-)
Cider spurs
Yes Kong I'd mind that and have always done so. As I've said previously, it's another deplorable step towards the kicker system in the NFL. Would you welcome that move Kong ?
Highgatespur
I can't scribble anymore lol. I've forgotten how to with mobiles, PC's and tablets taking over. Highgatespur as we know sporting ethics and morals don't exist. Win at all costs. Money is greed, greed is good! COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
I don't mind it as much, the team has 3 substitutions so they can make it when they see fit, if they feel a player is better at a certain situation then they can use a substitute, the other holland goalkeeper might have saved the penalties too, if the ball didn't go out of play then krul wouldn't have come on.
Kong
I can't for the life of me see what's wrong with substituting the goalkeeper as a tactic. As long as it's within the rules of the game, which of course it is, what's the problem? If that was Spurs or England last night, with Robben, Krul and LVG doing it for us, I'd be a happy man... Robben has been one of the best players in the tournament. His diving aside, which he wasn't doing last night, I think he's a fantastic player. A winner.
MAN ON!
Cider, not bitter about LVG then? agree on Dutch being poor sports though. I can see Germans winning tournament now unfortunately.
Thats Entertainment
I don't know how the NFL works so don't understand the kicker system and what it is.
Kong
Talking of penalties, I was not born but I could imagine the uproar if it happened today.

In the 1959-60 season we were all so close to winning the title, we were playing Man City, just before half time we were awarded a penalty. Cliff Jones stepped up to take the penalty, shoots and it is saved by the keeper, the ball rebounding off him.

Quick as a flash Jones is on to the rebound, leathers it straight into the back of the net, the crowd goes wild, the referee points to the centre of the pitch, the teams go to reconvene for the kick off, but the ref is walking off. Alright, it's halftime, not even time for the restart, however, news quickly filters through that in that nano second between Jones taking the initial penalty and scoring the rebound, the ref had blew for half time.

Spurs tried in vain to score in the second half, leaving ourselves massively open at the back, eventually losing 1-0, days later we beat Wolves at Molineux 3-1, it's not enough though, we miss out on the title by 3 points, the very 3 points denied by Man City and that scored rebound.
Cider spurs
As for this GK substitution thing, to add balance, let's not forget Krul could have dived the wrong way on all those penalties, would it be deemed unsporting then?. I read it was more about Krul's height and the fact he would fill more of the goal in the dive?. One would think that would be the same in game no?.
Cider spurs
TE...It's not that I don't understand clubs will always be used as bargaining tools, I'm just fed up with it at Spurs of late. Always used for players to get where they aspire, or to apply pressure for clubs to come in. Hate it, but understand it, LVG is just the latest in a long line.
Cider spurs
Was'nt it 2pts for a win in those days Cider...
Thats Entertainment
Cider, like Clive Thomas in the 1974 WC he blew for the final whistle as the Brazilians header was crossing the line for a 'goal'!
Highgatespur
Dublin, you say that you've gone off of the Netherlands because of their antics in this World cup, Why? Do you not remember the last WC final? Holland didn't play football, they tried to kick Spain off the pitch and into defeat. Half their team could have been sent off! In their match against Spain in this one, they were fantastic , playing some great football. They demolished them.
MAN ON!
TE...You are correct. The season ended with Burnley as Champions on 55 points, Wolves as runners up on 54, and Spurs in 3rd on 53 points. Those two points would have seen us level with Burnley, but us winning the title by way of having a superior goal difference.
Cider spurs
I have no problem with Holland making a GK substitution. I wish we had removed the old and immobile Shilton in 1990 for Woods or Beasant for the penalties.

As for the diving, I think the solution is quite simple. The refs just have to award the free-kick to the player being fouled but also book them for the simulation. I don't recall one incident with Robben last night where he wasn't fouled. I also don't recall one incident where he didn't exaggerate the foul and therefore dive. In my rules, he would have simply won 2 fouls but walked for the second yellow after diving both times. That would eradicate diving from the game in an instant.
muttley
I didn't think the ref had a bad game...and I didn't think Robben was diving...sure they seemed a little cocky and the sub of Krul was unusual but it was effective....a goalie getting into the oppo's head is hardly unusual look back at grobbelaar....the refs over all haven't been too bad they should have controlled the chile/brazil game better, he let too much go (particularly on Sanchez!)and have been lenient on both Neymar and Messi when they commit fouls. The dutch showed a Winning mentality! we need to get some of that...NOT cambiasso who's introduction during the 2006 quarter final was seen as a pivotal moment handing initiative to Germany and who's missed penalty sent argentina home...

Lloris made it pretty clear last season that he wasn't happy with the attitude of the rest of the squad, his comments made Sherwood look like a diplomat. I suspect if he doesn't see a lot more fight from them this season he will be looking for another club.
jod
jod. That's true and Hugo's words were largely ignored on here for some strange reason.
MAN ON!
Not far away from days when we see the specialist corner takers, defensive corner teams, attacking corner teams, penalty takers, penalty savers, free kick takers, free kick wall defenders and so on in the game - it will be a squad of 45 players; instead of the 18 players we will have a 34 players on the sidelines at all times... it's only progress as they say, let's face we used to have no subs to 1 then 2 then 5 and now 7 to 11 in internationals - so it can't be that far away when subs can be done in a non permanent way.... Americans will have influenced and won in more than one way!!!
Highgatespur
I have no problem with krul getting subbed on. He is bigger and more imposing than their no.1 keeper. It was clever. What I didn't like was the pre planned goading and intimidating of the Costa Ricans before they kicked, that is cheating in my book and didn't think keepers were allowed so close to the ball anymore.

man on. Holland played great against Spain. Clean and free flowing. Robben then started diving everywhere, admitted as much. It basically got them through the last 16, and he continued yesterday. Higher justice that they kept hitting the woodwork. Cancelled out the cheating. But I don't like watching that style of play, all down to Robben I will not support holland in this comp any further. Shame, as they were one of my favs going into it.
Dublin Hotspur
jod, good point but he did include himself on that criticism - I don't think that's been forgotten as i naturally assumed that he saw himself as the part of the problem as well as the solution ... thus one more year. He used 'us' and 'we' rather than 'they ' or 'the others'... I think he will give us another year. I fear his expectations will be labelled as too high for some fans.
Highgatespur
Re diving. Players can just lose balance or choose to fall down and roll to break a fall and avoid injury during the course of a game. I don’t think they should be penalised for this, BUT ... they should be penalised if they claim they have been fouled! If they don’t put up a hand to claim a foul, play on.
Geofspurs
One more. Not sure I get you? Are you referring to my comments on Robben? I truly am appalled by his diving. Even the wife noticed it and she doesn't have a clue! Can you explain your post to me about the negativity and small groups of posters? Bit confused.
Dublin Hotspur
Highgatespur. With respect all that LVG did was make a tactical substitution and it worked. It could have gone horribly wrong. It's now seen as a clever ploy but, if Krul had not saved those 2 pens, then it would have been seen as a disaster for LVG and the tactic of a fool.
MAN ON!
That's a very balanced view Dublin Hotspur, well done man!
Thats Entertainment
why thank you TE!
Dublin Hotspur
Geofspurs. I agree. Bale did the same and was heavily criticised for it. I don't think it's a coincidence that both he and Robben are fast attacking players that are great dribblers and runners with the ball. The opposition are constantly trying to kick, nudge and barge them off the ball, often doubling up, or even tripling up on them, to bully them out of the game. It works both ways.
MAN ON!
I think naming and shaming the 'divers' ought to take place before every game. It had a very high impact on Robben's antics last night although not totally obliterated.
Highgatespur
but man on, Robben admitted to diving in the previous match. surely that makes a difference?

mrspurs. shall wecahnge our strip to red and white stripes? we need the best players we can get and afford to pay. not select players based on their being british. If they are the best available in that position, go for it. I'm not convinced on Davies, certainly not convinced on a forest player from a lower league. I have a feeling this is the mail enforcing usual spurs hating tactics. they write about us far more than any other paper, and its usually got negative undertones! reckon they have been listening to some posters on here TBH! what are your thoughts mate?
We have been linked with pretty much every player on the planet to date. some we would never get, some we don't really want at all. my view. leave it to Poch. I hunk we will be happy in August, and ultimately come this time next year. I can see why he might want some young brits as he has worked with so many at saints, but we are not saints, we are spurs, and we deserve the best we can get. not a policy on buying because of heritage. ( I think the nail was in the coffin for Tim so to speak, when he handed in his transfer wish list, and I'd say it looked a lot like what the mail are printing!)
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin, shall we issue you with certificate for balanced view from That's Entertainment ? LOL
Highgatespur
Dublin Hotspur. I'm fully aware of Robbens diving and what he said, but he did use pretty much the same excuse as Bale did when he was pulled up about it. I actually admire him for his honesty. I don't want to see diving and I criticised Bale for it myself but it's not the worst crime on a football pitch and it probably evens out in the end. I remember Bale getting booked for diving when he was obviously not. I remember many free-kicks that we should have had but didn't get. (Crying wolf and all that). It works both ways.

Interesting slant Dublin, I didn't realise my prediction of 1000 players being linked to Spurs over the summer would be that accurate. Although somewhat irritating - well done to Spurs for staying quiet on matters.
Highgatespur
Man On! All I am suggesting is that it opened up a few avenues where the game go in - I didn't think it was that innovative nor encouraging - both on LvG's actions as well as where the game seems to be heading towards... As far as Robben and speed is concerned - speed was hardly the issue with Robben's falls vs Mexico ?
Highgatespur
After watching England at the world cup i hope Spurs shy away from buying a core of young british players.

Spurs philosophy has been the buying young British players & exactly where has it got us? NOWHERE.
Gareth bale was the only major hit in the buying of around 100 young Brits in around 15 years.Michael Carrick came the closest to him.
If one comes along then great, buy him,but not for the sake of him being british.About club success & nationality means nothing.

I had a little dislike for Arsenal reeling out teams with no English in it,but i would be happy now for Spurs to follow suit.

As our squad stands today i don`t rate one of our English players & for the first time in 30 odd years not one Tottenham player represented England in a major tournament, proof is in the pudding.

For what it's worth. I have read a few articles and snippets from ITK (You know the score here). Basically the thinking is...We are looking to strengthen in key areas, obviously looking at LB and CB first and foremost, adding maybe a CF and LW. Apart from these areas, the thought is that we will be looking to sign young talent with potential, unless a truly great deal presents itself that is too good to refuse.

Not read anything stating it had to be British talent, but have heard we are more likely to be looking at Prem proven talent for the key areas. The potential young talent to come from anywhere.

Highgatespur
Man On! what's this with the LOVERBOY LEVY ? Starting a new trend ?
Highgatespur
MAN ON!...Tis' what's written. Long before the Daily Mail, whether it comes to fruition is anyone's guess, but it makes the most sense. However, only sensible if we are to play the young potential and give them quality gametime on occasion. Maybe Europa early rounds and cups.

I wrote on the forum yesterday the mystery surrounding Caulker's exit. Many have commented he was not good enough, he was one of the exact players we are talking about, namely young potential. I did not even realize that he only actually started 17 prem games for Spurs and only 26 in all competitions. Pointless buying young potential if we are going to cast them off after so few games aged a youthful 21. An age considered very young for a CB, a position that does not usually see players reach their potential until later in their career as opposed to other positions.
Cider spurs
Highgate...LOL!...There is an article doing the rounds asking "Should we sign Ricardo Rodriguez?."

Nah!, he's only just been one of, if not the best LBs in Europe season gone.
Cider spurs

Cider, as one of those who strongly supported Caulker previously, I was aghast to see him go and didn't believe the rumours of off the pitch activities but as each development takes place with his pending transfer - they seem to be right. Unfortunately.I do tend to tend to share the high expectation of Veljkovic at CB.

Cider spurs. Looks like Caulker could be on his way to Harry's QPR. He should be playing for Spurs. I think he would have improved a lot but I feel he's gone backwards. Funny how Redknapp buys in players for Rangers that he didn't play at Spurs.
MAN ON!
dunlin-i could have quite easily compiled a list of british players that would have done better than the guys be bought.the 'magnificent 7'as they were called.
tarkan mardinCOYS
Cider - is it young talent with potential or is it upgrading our homegrown quota in the squad? Probably both. Right now, if we wanted to name a squad of 25 we'd probably name Walker, Naughton, Dawson, Rose, Fryers, Siggy, Lennon and Townsend with others like Carroll, Fredericks, Hall, Mason and Obika out on loan. When you look at it, there isn't the top 4 quality we need. Our interest in Davies, Stones, Lascelles, Schneiderlin etc is very calculated in my opinion so we can offload a few homegrowns. It also wouldn't surprise me if Pochettino went in with a squad of 22/23 and used Archer, Bentaleb, Velkjavic, Pritchard, Kane etc instead of the over 21's that he can sell.
muttley
how about a team full of rodriguezs? I can think of 4 good ones already… maybe another 9 or 10 to be discovered by our scouts?

It's only gone and happened!...Yep!...Old Cider's Sunday Roast football is back. Been a while, but with some help from myself, the missus is doing a roast at home. Very pleased about this, should have seen the looks from the other diners over the last few weeks when eating out.

I saw no problem telling the dear old lady to do one, bloody cheek, "please can I borrow the pepper" she ask's, Pepper my arse, that's the club captain, you know, the one who brings a bit of spice to the team.

Don't even get me started about the chef telling me they only had New potatoes left with the Roasties all gone. Tw*t, My team is good, but Barcelona it is not, no Roasties means no strikers, a step too far.

MAN ON!...Young Pretender!. There's no way your team would outshine mine. The movement is second to none, all contributing immensely to the WOW! factor. Many wish to join, I have given trials to Spring Greens and even the somewhat controversial Purple sprouting Broccoli, alas they did not cut it. I've got to say the Roast Beef is the star of the show...It's Mustard, as for your team...Like a chicken...You'd get stuffed!.

Took a while to get to this level, I started a young lad, cutting my teeth in the lower leagues, you know the old Southern tea time league, I quickly got promoted from the Youth coaching set up, and became a #2 to one known as missus. Often resulting in me preparing the team throughout the week, but denied any input on match days.

I went on to unite with Missus, this allowed me to A have to share everything I own, but B, become the dominant Coach in the set up. The rest is history, I know tell my missus what kind of players I am seeking and what formations and with whom, she then scours the globe for said players, Asda, Sainbury's, Morrisons, Aldi, the list is endless, we work tirelessly in our efforts to source them all, she says I should be grateful.

You don't win the Southern Sunday Lunch League cup sitting on yer arse, it's all about a hunger to succeed, something I enjoy getting my teeth into.

On a side note. Being the transfer window, I missed the boat on some lad called Bisto, think he would have added some fluidity to the side.

Good to see MP and his staff training with the players available. But from some fans there'll be two, seemingly opposite but actually closely related, reactions to those who've been playing at World Cup 2014. One has been, "Did you see how bloody awful X was? We should get rid of him pronto". The other has been, "Did you see how good Y was in that match the other night? I'm afraid he'll be leaving us at the first opportunity". The common denominator is fear and loathing, rather than the pleasure to be taken from watching football. My suspicion is that it's nothing to do with footie at all.

Whilst some are casting jealous looks in Liverpool's direction and getting miffed as to why we have as of yet done nothing...Poch has only taken one training session, no time to assess areas he wishes to strengthen.

Remember also, every chance Liverpool are losing their talisman Suarez, we have a goal in every two games career striker who has the potential to smash it up in the Prem this season, we also have one of the hottest properties in World football for his age in Lamela, add one of the best GKs in World football, and all the other signings that did not fulfill their potential last season, IMO, they should be just as wary of us.

Lallana, what was that, his breakthrough season aged 26?, Emre Can?, Rickie Lambert. Sorry, nothing too much there to get overly worried about. I reckon if we can add the bit of quality in key areas and get last seasons new signings playing to their full potential, we should be feared, still believe we have the talent, just need it bringing to the fore. Poch is just the man for this IMO. Forget Liverpool, watch Spurs go!...COYS!

Well said Cider - I just cant understand this fascination with L'pool and Rodgers - alright great last season - generally based on an unbelievable run of form... is it rely believed that Henderson, Gerrard, Sturridge are likely to hit the same form - well judging by their WC form it hasn't lasted too long ... as for their signings - do we really believe that the overseas signings will hit it off straight from the off and as for those Soton players - well lets see whether it'll be the carroll/downing effect or the Saurez effect... I'm just happy to see a new man at the helm and Spurs have taken a pragmatic view ro the transfers ... I KNOW that last season';s signings will take off and if not theirs always the january window but I think we'll all singing "I believe that we will win!" in no time at all.... Come on you Spurs!!!!!

Get our house in order and not worry about the others, where we have no control. The same mentality I want too see in our team, i.e., work on your game apply it against whomever. The rest will take care of itself. Start looking at the competition and panicking?... not the way to address the 'mentality' issue.

However, I'd like to see the glaringly obvious weaknesses addressed BEFORE we hit the pre-season.....unless Poch is absolutely confident that these can be addressed from within.....gulp!
Critical_Spur
Critical _ i do think there is tendency to talk up the others and down grade us simultaneously.... I do hope we have different tactics when meeting different teams though. I think the answers can come from within except for the LB LW and CB positions.... preseason has already started ?
Highgatespur
Highgate, I guess being a Spurs supporter, it is natural to underrate ourselves, something that has been rammed in to us over the years! Seriously, though, the mentality issue is my main gripe, all the way from the fans to the team. I hope Poch can get us believing. The players and the fans have been beaten down for far too long. If we can get the players to believe in themselves again, then the only way is up. We need that flair/arrogance of Bale, Modric, et al instilled in every player. COYS!

PS., PL starts in 6 weeks!!! There's a lot of work to be done. Levy/Poch/Baldini let's be avin ya!
Critical_Spur
If we finish the window with just three or four sigings and the bulk of the squad intact I think I'll be pretty happy. If it all goes thits up then I'll blame levy for not investing! Let liverpool ape us this summer, I predict at least four more signings for them and a very unsettled squad and season to come! If Liverpool struggle and LVG doesn't get United firing on all cylinders then top four is up for grabs again. SolDado to finish the season with 22 goals, Lamela top scorer and townsend with most assists. Sandro and Paulinho are first names on the team of the season after a fantastic campaign where they boss the midfield for evry game! Lloris credits the record number of clean sheets to the imperious defensive displays of verts and walker. Pochettino graciously accepts his manager of the year award but claims the real reward is seeing those two trophies Spurs won on his mantle piece!
Slurms McKenzie
And, if I may add, Under normal circumstances (i.e., retention of previous manager), I'd be less concerned about the '6 weeks to kick-off'. there is no continuity in to the next season for us. It is a new start, not just for manager, but for the players who didn't know what to expect from one game to the next. The ONLY continuity we have is that players belong to a group of 25, their pay cheques arrive on the same day and the tea lady Chirpy will give the sense of familiarity to the place.
Critical_Spur
I may be under estimating our chances next season but thats par for the course for a Spurs fan...
Slurms McKenzie
Slurms McKenzie, I don't know what your on, but can I have some :)
In-spurs-ational
Critical, thats what trolly irritates me that we, me included, are forever wanting others to be positive yet we the supporters aren't ... I still remember the despondency after semifinal defeat v Portsmouth; I was howled at in the tube carriage I was in for suggesting that we will win at Citeh the following Wednesday... I was quite taken aback... I do think this air od despondency filters to the players during games (AVB's point) - we do need to create new songs or bring back those songs we used to sing besides the "Oh when the Spurs ...". I do think that MRP can do the necessary - but the WHOLE club needs our support - they need to show that they deserve this support by progressing on the stadium and increasing the communication! Cant wait for the start ... looking forward to the class of 2013/14 succeeding to the top in 2014/15!! COYMS!!!!
Highgatespur
slurms we say that ever season, lets walk the walk for once
123spurs
Highgate, because of my geographical location (Manchester) and my business commitments, I can only really attend (some of) the games in the northwest. The support the team gets from our away fans is next to none....absolutely brill!. I am a quiet sort of a person, but can't help but get involved in the singing and chants! I think the fans at WHL will wake up next season. If Poch and the boys and deliver from the off, or at least show that they are singing from the same page, I am sure the fans will respond. I am excited and very optimistic. Just not happy about 'no news' re incomings. Makes you wonder if Baldini is still around!
Critical_Spur
No I believe good things are coming our way this season. I have noticed that I was becoming more negative in my comments so I have decided that at this stage of the season when everyone is on the same number of points, that I will hope and wish for a successful campaign for Spurs. There will be a time for rational thought once the season has gotten underway and things have settled down, but currently there are so many unknowns that being positive is the best policy both for my sanity and enjoyment of the remainder of the summer. COYBS
Slurms McKenzie
Gotta say I still retain my love for Manchester from my college days - brilliant days of the Hacienda and curry in Rusholme and living in Whalley Range! I always ensure I go up to the Manchester matches - great support at OT and ES ... always but it's the same at every away game! I almost sought an away season ticket instead of a home one a few years back - thought otherwise in the end.. The return of yid army w/o the risk of an arrest will rejuvenate ... look forward to some new songs but also the 'score tottenham score' from the kick off... the despondency created last year was unbelievable almost strangled the club... I just want to see the Spurs play the Brazil 70 or Holland 74 way - that's all I ask! Really excited by the new season ... not bothered about the lack of signings YET - WANT a LB LW and CB though... I reckon Baldini is working his socks off to establish some long term plan to get back levy's confidence...
Highgatespur
Where is coopsie... and his nonsense articles ?
Block D Spurs
Highgatespur - Not quite true. What he said was that he gave everything in every game and most of the rest didn't. In other words he had the right attitude, they didn't. To me he was just stating the obvious but most fans seem to have much lower standards for highly paid professional sportsman.
jod
My summer transfer window is quite simple. Bring in Ben Davies and a top quality centre half and offload the following - Gomes (done), Ekotto, Dawson, Khumalo, Livermore (done), Falque and Mason. That way Poch gets until January to see what he can get out of the squad. He can then assess guys like Jay Rodriguez when he's fit and playing again.
muttley
muttley-i agree with your post.it appears we are squabbling over the ben davies fee which seems reasonable, which leads me to believe their aint much in the coffeurs
tarkan mardinCOYS
or daniel levy thinks he is being a smart alec.
tarkan mardinCOYS
muttley- whilst I welcome a left back and we need a CB if one of our others leave (or is not fit enough) I think if that is all we do we can already kiss goodbye to competing for a top4 spot...unfortunately I do think we are skint and that we won't get any top quality players in...all those that want to manage expectations can rejoice if we get any higher than 6th...great, a season to look forward to - not being relegated...doesn't really get me excited for a season...
shedboy2
tarkan - I'm wondering whether there is a player exchange that is complicating things. I've seen Siggy's name mentioned a few times but it wouldn't surprise me if we're trying to offer them others like Dawson, Ekotto etc. I'd love to see Fryers go and play a season there on loan and have a full season in the Prem.
muttley
shedboy - I don't get that. We could start with a 1st team of Lloris; Walker, New CB, Vertonghen, Davies; Sandro, Paulinho; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Adebayor and still have a reserve side of Friedel; Naughton, Kaboul, Chiriches, Rose; Capoue, Dembele; Lennon, Hotlby, Townsend; Soldado with guys like Fryers, Vlekjavic, Bentaleb, Pritchard, Carroll, Siggy, Kane left over. What our squad needs most is stability and coaching. There is so much quality there that switching it out won't necessarily improve us especially if we can't buy top 4 quality. In fact what it needs more than additions is thinning out. You might be right in that we won't get top 4 but I don't expect us to be turning up at West Ham and being second best 3 times in a season. I think this current squad can deliver top 4 but clearly know how difficult it will be for any of the top 6 or 7 sides apart from maybe Chelsea and City.
muttley
There was talk that Swansea wanted Siggy, and of course, if we want Davies one would ask where is the problem. The problem is Bony. He is not our only striker target by all accounts, the thinking is that if we do indeed have to go in for Bony, we will still have Siggy as a bargaining chip. Not my thoughts, merely what has been written previously.
Cider spurs
I know it is a bit of a wishful thinking, but if Rose can be coached to be 'proper' defender, then I'd rather have Verts supporting the attack as he is more of a threat than Rose has been. In which case we only really need a good CB to provide the extra cover. COYS!
Critical_Spur
muttley - it's a big ask to start with the same squad that finished 6th and expect an improvement just by adding Ben davies and MoPo as a coach...Ade is another year older and showed up pre-season looking as though he's been living the good life...still no left footed lw....If Lloris gets injured Brad is just not physically up to a run of games and plays a completely different game to Lloris anyway! Every year you think we have too many players yet we have sold something like 25 more players than we have bought in the past 4 years....clubs will run with a staff of 35-50 players....we'll name 25 in the first team...they have to be the cream....but if we don't add to that 'cream' every window then over time we'll degrade our quality...and that's just looking at it from a football angle....as for our future fan base in this country and in the lucrative new markets we're off the radar!
shedboy2
When asked if he should be staying in North London, Lloris told reporters: “Yes, I should be. I don’t want to speak about my situation now.... “I need a few days to recover and after that to relax, have a good rest and come back for next season..... “I think I will speak soon about that and we will deal with it.”
MAN ON!
This obviously means that he's being sold to the Gooners...
MAN ON!
As I alluded to last night. Yes Liverpool had the SAS partnership last season, the emergence of Sterling and Coutinho with the mainstay Gerrard leading the pack. But...they had longer to gel, a more settled squad, a manager who had got his first season under his belt at new club prior.

Suarez aside, I don't see where they are supposedly so superior than Spurs in player ability stakes, I think they performed so well last season based on two things, namely the Suarez factor, but more importantly, Rodgers got them playing. Is it impossible to think that Paulinho is better than Henderson, Lamela better than Sterling, Eriksen ahead of Coutinho. What about a firing Soldado better than Lambert I'd suggest.

Here's my point, in many areas I'd suggest we are actually stronger than Liverpool on paper, we just need a manager to come in, add a few quality signings in key areas, and get the players playing to the potential that made us sign them in the first instance.

Get the right two signings in LB and CB and I'd happily say we are stronger than Liverpool from GK right through and including Midfield, up top Liverpool currently win it, but let's factor in the Suarez effect, Liverpool are set up to be an attacking side, lose his prowess, we could well eclipse them this season, even more so if we can get a season out of Ade and Soldado firing.
Cider spurs
jod, if you re-read the interview with Lloris you will find that he was talking differently than what you thought he was.
Highgatespur
If all we needed were a top quality manager....why didn't we appoint one? Mopo may become that man - he has a lot more experience than the caretaker and has done OK at Saints but he's not done anything to prove he's top quality....at either managing top ego's or developing players...the only team where he's brought his kids through into the first team was Espanyol...and he left them rock bottom of the league and another manager had to come in to turn it around, he seems a decent coach and nice bloke so fingers crossed he steps up but I'm just not seeing any ambition from our club at all...

Lloris quotes from the interview that jod has alluded to: “We have had a lot of bad defeats. This season there has sometimes been the feeling that we have given up. We can’t allow this kind of behaviour..... “We have to show more character. We did it in other games. But we have to keep our mentality in every game at the best level because in this league you have to be 100 per cent every time you play.”....... “I’m a competitor and I try always to do my best for the team. I want to see my team-mates do the same.....

spurs-stelios
man on - I don't doubt that you see that as ambition..you see I read the definition of ambition as the earnest desire for some type of achievement...and I can't marry that with selling our best players to replace them with cheaper potential (so making a profit), sacking manager's that have achieved something (arry top4 twice with us, AVB at Porto) and replacing with a mid table man with no pedigree - it just doesn't stack up to ambition for me....certainly not in footballing terms and our regression down the league seems to be bearing that out...
shedboy2
shedboy. Our regression down the league? 1 place down last season is hardly a serious regression and Pochettino was not responsible for it...
MAN ON!
shedboy - not perhaps as big an ask when you consider we had 2 managers with very different philosophies, an awful injury list and a bunch of new players settling in. Surely that in itself is worth a place or two.
muttley
Just got back from holiday and I've been without Tottenham news for over 2 weeks (painful stuff), as far as I can tell Dawson is being sold (although he's stalling), Ben Davies is apparently a massive target, Walker's got some new shades and the team are back in pre-season. What have I missed out on? I see Liverpool are moving on Lovren, anyone know our supposed targets or whatever?... Hope you're all well and enjoying the world cup!
rahn DMC
Man on- one place last year, another place the year before...that's regression. Whether you want to call it serious or not is up to you...Muttley - we'll see...but I maintain you have to keep improving or at least trying to improve your 1st team or you go backwards...it's just a matter of when...
shedboy2
muttley...Second that. I still stand by my belief that apart from the obvious areas that need addressing, we have a very capable squad. So many factors affecting performance last season. Let's hope for a settled, fit, happy squad with Poch bringing their ability to the fore.

If that was a shambolic season with us being short at LB and CB departments, Ade missing until Christmas, record signing out most of the season, Capoue and Sandro returning from and or injured, manager changes etc, etc but us as a club just missing out on our record Prem points haul...Oh my days!...the thought of it all coming together and the improvement could see us have a truly great season.
Cider spurs
shedboy... You know that I was as disappointed with MP arriving as much as you are but, he's here now and only had just the 1 training session. I accept that and will not write the man or the team off 6 weeks away from the new season and without so much as 1 new signing. I'm also prepared to face the possibility of us finishing may be a place or 2 lower. That to me would only show a serious regression if our football is decidedly worse and players are not living up to their reputations once more. However, I'll not make any predictions and I won't assume a lack of ambition. Let's see what happens and hopefully, your predictions are badly wrong.
MAN ON!
shed...But that 1st season of regression came under one of the top quality managers you suggest AVB.
Cider spurs
How did Rodgers get Liverpool from 7th to 2nd in two seasons?. I suggest a few players stepped up to the plate and he improved them, is it beyond the realms of possibility that Poch can do the same?.
Cider spurs
Spurs backroom staff just looks professional. I have a feeling the majority of players will respond well to the coaching methods. If we can get the best out of Pailinho, Dembele, Andros and Lamela it's going to be White Hot Lane! COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
In regards to Lloris, he is the best keeper I've ever seen at Tottenham and I would say he is quite easily in the top 5 keepers in the world. He will also know that he's good enough to play at the very top level. The only club I see actually going for him that worries me is PSG. Madrid have two top keepers, Barca have signed Ter Stegen. AS Monaco might be interested but I wouldn't see Hugo moving there... However, it should be our utmost priority to keep him as we would struggle to find a keeper as good as him who's not already playing for a top club. This summer (and for the foreseeable future) we must keep our best players and add quality in the key areas in our squad that need attention - CB, LB, LW and ST.
rahn DMC
...Or I could just decide that the future is totally predictable and say, in no uncertain terms, that we'll be relegated. Our new stadium is a dream and I'm the new Lloris. MOPO OUT!

Cider spurs, You ask "How did Rodgers get Liverpool from 7th to 2nd in two seasons?" Simple! He achieved this because he was given the backing and total support of the Liverpool board! He was given the freedom and power to run the football side of the club without interference from upstairs. And this summer after taking LFC to the promised land of CL football the board have again backed him in the transfer market, allowing to let make his purchases early in the summer transfer window! These are the reasons he stated publicly that he chose Liverpool over Spurs. He was totally aware of Levy's trigger happy coach hire and fire coach policy and knew he would never be given the time, the power, the time, or the financial support at THFC to bring us success with ENIC running the show. JOE LEWIS OUT!!!

shedboy, I regard the change at the coach level in the five steps forward from where we were... I am willing to give the squad and MRP enough time to blend and motivate, inspire and operate as team before deciding on anything... I strongly believe the present squad is near to what is required to achieve top4 and we only need adjustment at 3 positions LB, LW and CB. I'm waiting to see if the decision makers agree. I'm not on panic alert - just waiting in a mellow state of mind.
Highgatespur
highgate- I agree with most of that (mopo is a better appointment than Tim, hard to make a worse appointment)...although I'm less mellow...but again I still haven't seen any ambition from our club...being competent and showing ambition are two different things (and I'm well aware that ambition won't guarantee success)...still there's time....by the end of the transfer window and we've kept our best players and signed Lukaku, Konoplaynka and Rodriguez I'll applaud the ambition...sell off another 40m of talent to bring in 30m of potential and ENIC will be showing ambition... to make money and take us into a mid table obscurity...
shedboy2
AVB was not fired and TS is no longer at WHL, after being a temporary fix and no more than that.
MAN ON!
shed...Sorry mate. You are correct, you did not state AVB was a top manager, but your post does give the impression that by sacking the likes of AVB and Harry we have shown lack of ambition especially when replacing with mid table manager, going on to say regression will ensue. AVB saw us regress from 4th to 5th, so maybe the club is actually showing ambition in getting rid and appointing somebody who can get us heading forward once more.

That's not to say given the chance AVB might have turned it into an upward spiral once more. I think in a way we both agree, it is the clubs lack of supporting a manager through thick and thin that portrays lack of ambition. Maybe not so much the managers themselves.
Cider spurs
Pele...Where's your post about Liverpool selling their best player?.
Cider spurs
Mid table obscurity is the new top 4. Bring it on!

tarkan ... which team did ‘sliced bread’ manage?!
Geofspurs
Liverpool started last season well without Suarez.....
MAN ON!
Man on-their record is better staggeringly when he is not in the team.
tarkan mardinCOYS
But where would Liverpool be without his goals and assists? COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
I'm not worried about any team other than Spurs. Liverpool and others may or may not improve but hopefully we will.
MAN ON!
tarkan...Point noted, but for me, if Liverpool are indeed spending that Suarez money prior to his moving already, I've not seen them do any business that has actually made massively stronger as of yet. Gerrard in his decline, shaky backline, they'll not get away with their attacking football ethos forever, an ethos that will most certainly be weakened when Suarez leaves.
Cider spurs
Man on- sorry did 'parting company' with AVB and appointing tim show ambition? imo appointing Tim showed a complete lack of respect to the fans almost as far away from ambition as you could get....even if it were just for half a season. Cider-it's all about ambition and imo I think we are in agreement if you state the club are not supporting their managers...not supporting doesn't add up to showing ambition to me...;)
shedboy2
All the top teams will try to improve ... that’s the idea. Like MAN said, we can only worry about us.
Geofspurs
the worrying thing is for me is i see the chavs and man city as gauranteed for top 4 which leaves manure, bindippers and arsenal.and they are spending money like its going out of fashion.i mean arsenal look to have nabbed alexis sanchez.
tarkan mardinCOYS
Geofspurs- 'sliced bread' was a great manager but he was OVER ambitious! using up all of the clubs dough....;)

tarkan...and where are Arsenal going to play Sanchez. Chambelain and Walcott wide players already, another Ozil type signing if you ask me. Basically another good player, but in an area where they are already good to go.
Cider spurs
I'll be happy if we finish above the Saints. Call me ambitious or call me a fool.... (That's if Southampton finish in 5th)!
MAN ON!
Cider spurs - Rogers got them up to second partly because they had the best pair of strikers in the league and essentially outscored the opposition and partly BECAUSE they finished 7th. They proved conclusively the value of a lighter proogramme through not being in Europe. This time it looks like they won't have Suarez and will have the extra games, so it will be interesting to see how they go.

Dublin Hotspur
I have just returned from my annual dose of Spanish sunshine on a Wi-Fi free holiday (wife's strict instructions), with only Sky News (not SSN), the Sun and The Mirror for company and information, but alas I could have done without either, as all they told me is what all except Arsenal of our main rivals were doing, who were they buying, and the fact that as usual the talk of Spurs revolved around departures, rather than arrivals, and those allegedly interesting or linked with us were hardly game changers, or match winners. It has become a fact in recent seasons, in fact ever since we got to the CL QFs, that we don't only fail to compete with our rivals from August to May, we lay the foundation for this failure during the period from June to August and during the month of January. We either spend these periods selling our best players and failing to replace them, returning a healthy profit, or we do nothing in order to improve on a season on season basis as the best clubs do, or our DOF and "chairman" and chief bean counter, go out and blow the proceeds of £109M of sales of good players without replacing them with similar quality, instead making 7 signings, only 1 of which (Eriksen) looks like making the PL grade or fitting in, and most will lose value rapidly, as they are inevitably unloaded eventually, this is the cost of failure. By the time we do finally make a move in this window, if indeed that is the intention, there will be precious little pre-season time left to integrate new players, and start to look like a team, as has happened in the last 3 seasons, so we start the season playing catch up straight away. As of last Friday 4th July our rivals summer spending was as follows. Man City £12M on Fernando, Chelsea £59M on Fabregas, and Costa, Liverpool £39M on Lallana, Emre Can, and Lambert, with others like Lovran close, Man Utd £61.8M on Shaw, and Herrera, Arsenal have done nothing but are heavily linked with Sanchez, and others. We on the other hand have sold Livermore, and are apparently very close to selling Dawson (before we sign a CB, whilst we were short last seaso, with Chiriches's weaknesses and Kaboul's fitness concerns, without selling one on). We are in danger of making the same pig's breakfast of this window as usual, being linked with Tom, Dick, Harry and his dog, and will no doubt end up signing one or two mediocre players for too much money, and once again starting weaker this season than we were last, to continue our progressive downward spiral from CL QFs to being happy to scrape into the EL by the skin of our teeth, if in fact we even achieve that this season. While this systematic gradual regression is maintained the same incompetent people are controlling our transfer policy, if in fact there is one, our old friend the erstwhile Mr. Levy , and now his apparently equally incompetent side kick Mr. Baldini, if last summer's 7 signing fiasco is anything to go by, so it hardly surprising that we are in a cycle of decline showing no sign of reversal, especially as our rivals draw further and further away, and we make no attempt to stay in touch. To contrast with our reaction to CL qualification in terms of squad strengthening, it appears that Liverpool have a different approach, attempting to consolidate their position, they may well lose Suarez, but will no doubt re-invest his fee as wisely as their recent signings indicate. One thing is certain, we will no doubt make our customary profit in this window whether we actually strengthen or not, especially if we continue to strip out assets like Dawson, Sandro, and possibly Paulinho or Vertonghen or Lloris.
Frank
Good news Dublin
Highgatespur
Thanks frank - that's good news - I'd've disliked Spurs on a spending spree yet again. Glad you enjoyed your break.
Highgatespur
Well here's hoping we see coopsie return for some summertime chat.
Cider spurs
Frank - looks like Arse will get Debuchy ...you do really articulate my belief that there is a lack of ambition at our club...we don't need a host of players coming in but 3 proven quality players wouldn't go amiss...as you say game changers...not the journeymen and also rans...
shedboy2
I don't think Coops need worry about Topho or his incarnations....he had toned down in the last few name changes and imo can contribute some good stuff...he just doesn't seem to have a filter....don't mention 'Dim', Andros being poor, Pauli or Soldado being good and you can stay clear of the wrath....
shedboy2
who are these game changers?im sorry but we bought game changers last season did we not.
tarkan mardinCOYS
Talking of which Andros is out to impress Poch so he'll be the best in training and have some excellent 10 minute spells in the first 5 games...shame he's not focusing on becoming a better player and picking the right options...will Poch be a 'game blind' manager and only pick on training? if so we'll be in trouble...
shedboy2
So it appears the Cambiasso idea is no more. There were no problems with visas, the deal breaker was who was meant to be paying the pensioners Winter heating allowance.

Just read that we have offered Siggy for Davies and Vorm. Can't be true surely? Obviously any offer like that would be laughed at. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Shedboy, we have ambitions as a club, but the problem arises in that the ambition of the likes of Lewis/Levy is diametrically opposite to those of the long suffering Spurs fans. There is an owner ambition to run a tight ship, to maintain PL status to safeguard the sales value of the club, but not to spend a penny in real terms when a halfpenny will do, so that ultimately when the inevitable sale takes place, profit is maximized. The ambition of most fans, on the other hand, is to see the club compete for a possible CL qualification, and possibly a decent cup run now and again and even a trophy once in a blue moon. In order to achieve this, real investment in quality personnel is required, not simply the re-cycling of the proceeds from selling quality players, perhaps even re-investing theconsiderable TV income into the squad, and even God forbid the occasional modest additional investment due to the billionaire owner bunging a few quid in. This may result in improvement in achievement and results on the pitch, but would fly in the face of the lean investment, maximum profit philosophy, of Lewis and his tame bean counter. I agree with you Shedboy, with 2 or 3 quality signings in key positions added to the squad, we should dramatically succeed on the pitch, but the chances of it happening I'm afraid, are remote.

I'm not surprised at the quiet surrounding us at the moment. Last summer we had a windfall and blew the lot amongst a fanfare of press coverage on players that haven't exactly shone. They have no more excuses this season. They have to deliver or it will have proved to be the case that we wasted our money on some / most of them. That said a quietish summer is what we need. Let the gaffer do his job and get his teeth into our wildly underachieving squad. Train then until they crack and then train them some more so they are properly fit for the tough season ahead. We must have been one of the unfittest, laziest squads in the PL for the past few years. That can't happen this season. Let's ship out some of the players that aren't up to scratch (take your pick) and then change our system to a 3-3-3-1 and go with that. If we do that we only need a quality, fast CB and a quality, skillful and fast left sided attacker. The rest we've got. I wouldn't be disappointed if we started the season playing the following 3-3-3-1 formation Lloris (obviously) then Chiriches, new fast CB, Vertonghen, Walker, Capoue, Fryers, Lamela, Eriksen, new fast skillful left sided attacker, Soldado. Maybe I'm going doolally in my old age but I'm feeling OK about the coming season with Pochettino at the helm.

Cider spurs
shedboy-just try to enjoy the football and try to see top 4 as a bonus and not a necessity.
tarkan mardinCOYS
Heyup ALL. Firstly FACT no one or the media have any idea about THFC transfers, in's or out's. Pure speculation. It has become so predictable and silly now I try to only visit THFC official site for announcements, cannot be bothered with the speculation even on this site. Waste of energy, official statements or official admissions from Poch otherwise not bothered these days. I don't buy into media trash.

Secondly, I see football becoming increasingly difficult for clubs. It's getting silly, top clubs demanding 70 - 80m for the best players. Now Saurez is linked with a potential 70+m transfer to Barca. Really it is getting silly and it will eventually kill the game, or I see clubs like THFC will stop buying into this silly market and accept a top half finish with may be a cup or so or a odd CL spot. I think Levy is already planning a change by bringing in Poch. to develop players, that is the way to go now days. Coaches that can develop youngsters, rather than coach/manager who will win but with the best players. Look at City, now Utd, and Chelsea managers, are they coaches like Poch, Ridgers or Martinez. NO they are top managers who buy the best players and are good at winning with those players. Rodgers proved last season that improving players, getting the best out of them can get you into the top four, but not sure they will maintain it especially if Saurez is sold. City, Chelsea, now Utd are going to buy the top four. Arsenal have maintain top four by having a manager who brings youngsters through and improves players. Liverpool now have a similar manager and so does Everton and now we do. This is the way to go if you want to try and get top four or win a few cups. To have a coach that can improve players and who can bring the youngsters through, Levy has seen this and it is the only sensible thing to do because transfers are silly and teams like us cannot compete.

With Utd back splashing the money, with a manager who has achieved they should be back in the battle with Chelsea and City. The last spot will be down to whether Arsenal can maintain what they do, or whether Liverpool can force them out or whether we can progress like Liverpool and Everton have by having a coach like Poch. It may well take a couple of seasons, as it did with Liverpool/Rodgers but my bet is if LVG is able to do his business in the PL he will be among City and Chelsea and imo Arsenal will probably be favourites for the last top four spot basically because Liverpool will probably lose Saurez and will need to replace his goals and they will have to contend with CL which many of them are not used to doing. Gerrard is aging and it is showing and ouselves, well it is a transitional season again. So Arsenal will probably pip it again. Best we can expect is challenging in cups , top six and progress in the way we play, improvement in players and some youngsters coming through, plus an idea of how many of last seasons players are good enough.
BigSpursFan
Not too sure about the 'steel' mate but I'm with you on the ticker tape, MP will love that !!

We might actually be ok for wingers, if MP can improve our players like he is renowned for then Townsend, Lamela and Lennon could all be quite potent... Definitely need a LB and CB though.
T.H.F.Chris
Cider, the coasters would not last one round of drinks on them.... they are superfluous IMO rather have a free game! I am looking forward to the season.."I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!
Highgatespur
shed...I do get what you are saying. Nobody I feel can say we showed anything other than lack of ambition in a couple of January windows when placed very well in prem and in need of that little extra quality to get over the line.

For me, it's not as easy as some will have us believe. Chelsea you'd think showed ambition when signing Torres after his showing at Liverpool, that bit them big style, Liverpool, Andy Carroll, Man Utd, Veron. There are plenty who you would think were ambitious signings, but alas failed at the first hurdle. That said, I think we need to bite the bullet here and there and go after the so called bigger players instead of nearly always evolving potential into said staus and then selling to start the cycle again.

I suppose alot of it has to go hand in hand...Money and ambition. We all know the score there. Do you feel we showed ambition last summer in the window with our signings?, if so, how do you feel that ambition repaid us?.
Cider spurs
Personally I don't expect top four. I just want to see the club stabalise and see players improve and for us to get to a stage where we are producing our own players. I want to see good football and may be some cups in the following seasons. The stadium sorted and if we can finish top six that is reasonable.
BigSpursFan
There is no reason why Townsend cannot improve. If Poch can improve Lennon then that would be amazing, if he doesn't improve under Poch then sadly his days will be numbered at Spurs, he has to contribute more in terms of assists or goals, although I like him a lot. If Lamela comes good then that will be a new signing. I wouldn't mind seeing a youngster brought in to also fight for a wing place. I think we do need a CB because Dawson is aging and is slow, but I love him, Vlad not sure about who he will partner with, Kaboul injury prone and I do think we need a LB, as Rose needs challenging. I am unsure about our strikers. Ade inconsistent, Soldado, well we just don't know whether he will come good or not, it's a gamble and Kane, unproven. I would be happier if we had a PL goal scorer in the ranks
BigSpursFan
tarkan - top4 is not a necessity but in sport competition is crucial so trying your best is required whether it's the players that take to the pitch, the subs, the manager or the board...and imo the board are letting us down...as per Franks post...their main objective isn't the same as the fans...simply put I believe them to be Charlatans...
shedboy2
Cider - no I don't think the signings (and sales) last year showed ambition...that lack of ambition cost us....we had a wasted season, that is how we were repaid...
shedboy2
BSF I naturally agree with you that there is a lot of rubbish written out there and media don't know anything but they did get a lot of our signings right last year. They don't get everything right but a lot is leaked out either by Tottenham or the selling club, big benefit to selling club and player if everyone knows said player is leaving..price get inflated and William gets to become a scum squad player - although he was shi1 anyway.

Agree on your other points, especially the fact Utd will be very strong. Last season was a bit of a missed opportunity.

Topho the world ma!
MAN ON!
BDF- you sound like a ENIC PR man. Football becoming difficult? yep must be difficult for Levy to accept 85m for Bale...we are part of the silly market like it or not...it does look as though our Board are quite happy to accept the money from: huge transfers, the fans via some of the most expensive tickets in the prem, TV money etc whilst not committing it to improve the team. How long the aging fan base will put up with that is anyone's guess but it wont be indefinite. I agree that Levy is planning to try and train his own talent up...as is every other club in the world! And it never works, the successful clubs always have to buy at some stage (and thus taking a player another club has trained (so our model will make us a feeder for manu/ real madrid if we are successful, for QPR /Newcastle and the championship if we're not!) , even United with their fabled crop of youngsters had to buy. A Wenger is hard to find and Poch hasn't done anything to suggest he can emulate it...Rogers and Martinez had far more on their CV's when they took their current positions but fingers crossed. If we wanted a man who does develop players and maintains a winning team whilst selling his best players than De Boer was the man but too big a personality for Levy to manage. As for the stadium when you say sorted do you mean built? or the c half billion pound bill paid off?
shedboy2
Agree BSF, this season all about building, I don't know why but I feel very optimistic for forthcoming season, a cup would be cool.

Cider spurs
shedboy-I am not Enic PR man - I'm not even a man lol.?

I just mean unless clubs do get investors like City and Chelsea then it is difficult in terms of Levy always wanting to either make a profit or break even. They are not the same type of investors as Chelsea and City, so it's difficult because we are run more as a business which is fair enough. They came in and put money into the club, just because they don't invest willy illy doesn't mean they don't care or they are wrong. If anyone brought a business it's entirely up to them how they run it, I think people get too caught up about what Levy does. He runs the business as he see fits, and all this 'he should sell' well WHY. Would any of us, no unless we wanted to. Just because it is football people get mixed up about it because emptions run high. FACT football is a business now and no one has the right to say someone should sell, or invest more. If fans don't like the ticket prices don't pay them. If it was any other business nothing would be said. The local corner shop, do people tell them to sell because they don't invest more money and get in more variety of stuff, NO. It's a business I say people need perspective. So as a business, football business, imo it's difficult, it's difficult to compete because unless you are prepared to throw money away you are competing with people who are throwing money away, a bottomless well of money always available.

As for the stadium, I meant, get it built. I would like to see a stadium that has more capacity.

Your comment on supporters staying faithful, doesn't matter, we are not that important, why football is a national interest, supply and demand, there will always be supporters of THFC. If people give up their season tickets because they are unhappy, I believe there is enough demand that it will be sold to someone else within seconds.

Too much emotional attachment to fantasy of football. It's a business, we happen to support the business that doesn't invest as much as others, but on the other hand, invests more than some other clubs, it happens. Ask the likes of a championship supporter if they would love to be in our position, supporting a club that as international players, that finish top six in the most difficult league in the world. I bet most would say Yes, they would swap places.

Sadly, it's the sign of the times, people never satisfied. I stand by what I say, no one has the right to demand Levy to sell or for more money to be invested. We have a choice, we either pay and go and watch the club, or we don't. Just like we choose whether to shop at Asda or Sainsbury's or spend our dosh on a pizza or chinese, or use our money for a particular hobby or not.
BigSpursFan
Cider, it does seem to happen to us a lot, wish him well but I think his time is up.
Thats Entertainment
p.s I am happy for what we have, yes I would love to see stability, better football, improvement from players developing, a cup or two but I am also happy the club isn't being run by people who want to throw money away. Football has been ruined anyway because of it becoming big business, I rather see the money wasted and paid out for players etc used for more important things. Before anyone says I am not a total supporter, they are wrong, I have supported Spurs for well over forty years but I also keep things in perspective and I can see the decline of the modern football game, both on and of the pitch.

MAN ON!
BSF...Well said. I wonder how The Russian felt when spending a cool £1 Billion of his own wealth to see Chelsea finish beneath Spurs a couple of seasons back. Where do you draw the line?.

Let's say Lewis decides to start investing heavily and we start mixing it with the big boys on a regular basis. What happens when the big boys decide to spend even more to re-establish the divide?, we would have spent more money as required, but nothing would have changed.

Play that game long enough and i'd suggest the owners of City and Chelsea would blow old Joe out of the water. Easy to want with somebody else footing the bill, little different when it comes from your own pocket. Yes, people pay good money to support, but ultimately, that is their choice, same as Lewis...His money, his choice.

Just read the great Alfredo Di Stefeno passed away. Sad day for football. R.I.P.

BSF, how is football ruined by big business, without that it would be poor relations surely.
Thats Entertainment
Due to living some 250 miles away these days rather than in Kilburn as I used to, I no longer make home games, so envy you season ticket holders, but may I respectfully suggest that the welcome pack you receive is all very well, but would it not be better if the club showed you guys the respect you deserve by making reasonable efforts to put a team together good enough to at least put in a proper challenge for a top 4 place, or the occasional long cup run, and possibly a trophy as Wigan, and Birmingham City among others, have done in recent years. Heaven knows you guys pay amongst the top prices in the PL for your tickets, it is a shame that Mr. Levy and Co. doesn't provide you with a product worthy of the price.
Frank
Whats ruined football is players wearing a pink boot on one foot and a turquoise one on the other! gives me the right hump.
Thats Entertainment
Frank, the comments re ST/Members packs were done with the tongue in case - definitely in my case! I certainly agree that in the showing respect department leaves a lot to be desired. I missed coming to WHL so much when in college in Manchester but ended up coming down here for most of the matches... Looking forward to the season and hopefully we do end up with something silver this season... Always in hope.

TE - I thought someone was pulling my leg when told at first...

Always in hope, never in vain, yeah I like that COYS!
Thats Entertainment
Cider, all fine and good that but I wish the club would decide which way they are going. If the club doesn't want to go with the times then please let the supporters know - by a price reduction etc... the the expectations would come down. We cannot be expected to be charged one of the highest prices and yet not compete at the top... If Levy and co. don't want to spend money please do sell up so those who can, and want to,takeover. It's cruel to make us straddle, surely.
Highgatespur
Like that THFChris!!!
Highgatespur
Cider-Yep, all the hype is because it is football. I don't know any one who would like to be told to sell their business or be told how to run their business or even told how to spend their money. I wouldn't want people to tell me how to spend my money.

I also don't believe for one minute that Levy doesn things intentially wrong or bad when making decisions, I do believe he loves the club, supports Tottenham. Yes he makes decisions that don't always work out, but then that again is business. The Russian owner at Chelsea has also done the same, all owners have, it's business. For some reason Levy gets singled out because everyone else apparently are football experts and experts at running a football business. I have ran a few businesses myself, and I made mistakes, it's part and parcel of running businesses, but again as it's football, all tied up in emotion people go overboard.

Like you say, so easy to spend other peoples money.

That's Entertainment - I mean football becoming a big business has ruined it. The game is full of cheats, greed and ego's. It has gone from a sport to a sporting business, there is now a sense of 'get what you can' and gone are the days when people would jump through hurdles to play for the love of the club and country. I personally feel sport should be sport. I am not opposed to their being money involved in a sense that everyone has to make a living but I would prefer sport to have stayed as a sport first, a wage for playing but not to have seen it spiral out of control. May be sport should have had a wage cap on it and wages should rise with inflation like most jobs. Then again some non sporting jobs are overpaid, the world has gone mad but it is getting worse in sport. The fact that sport has become a business it no longer just a sport so as it has added ingredient, incentive, it loses some of the sporting feel about it. When you get people who no longer motivated to play for their country, that tells you how it has declined. I also see the pressure players and managers are increasingly under due to the money involved that there is an increase in stress, reactivity and cheating on and of the pitch. It's such a shame, imo sport was never meant to be like that but now it has become big business it is spiralling out of control. It will all come to an end, everything has a cycle. May be not in my time, but something will give.

Highgate, as I said yesterday, Spurs have spent more on ST packs this yr. Could be a sign... ENIC are now spending money on THFC..... COYS
Block D Spurs
BSF, you're painting a gloomy picture of the sport I love, its not as bad as you make out. Human nature dictates evolution, mad ride or what?

Somebody put up a "nonsense" thread ffs! I'm running out of things to Google....what else I am supposed to do @ work?!?!? :-)
jefferyhyde
Block D - my surprise was somewhat subdued due to your warning ! I mean what is the point and those blinking birthday cards!!! Yup a sign that ENIC are MAINTAINING their spending level on THFC... waiting for the uproar when we see how they carved up the loyalty points!!! Like the nifty little fixtures booklet - in cloud as well !!! LOL Yay!!
Highgatespur
Highgate...I totally get your point, I honestly do. However the fact still remains that supporters choose to support. I agree with lack of transparency at Spurs, but as a club we are not going to state we are merely happy with prem status and everything else is a bonus, that no doubt would hurt the club financially.

We have improved staedily under ENICs tenure, some want more, myself included, but I do understand how we operate as a business and the limitations that our business model imposes on the club.

I agree that prices are sky high, but same as most things in life, at the right price, if you want or need, or like, you buy. There are always usually cheaper alternatives, where football fans are held to ransom is when the emotional attachment kicks in, that's where it costs you money, because now it's not just about football, but more about the love of your football club.
Cider spurs
jeffery...Watch Porn?.
Cider spurs
Odds on any second now PELE10 will make an appearance. LOL!
Cider spurs
Cider, we diverge at the point that the club doesn't need to divulge what their intentions are and would hurt them financially - I thought we were in the climate of managing our expectations... we have improved under ENIC but way way too slowly when compared to the rate of increase in income WAY TOO slowly...
Highgatespur
Highgate...Surely it is obvious Spurs would want to finish as high up the table as possible. It generates more money and could lead to more revenue streams. How could they come out and say anything different? Sponsorship would soon dry up if we let our intentions be known that we were not overly bothered where we finished as long as status remained.

For many it appears they are not doing their utmost to succeed, but that's mostly relating to lack of spending, how many posts about the 100+ properties purchased around WHL in order to build stadium?. I too believe we have failed to move with the times somewhat, the divide growing ever greater, but I think this is not down to ENIC not wishing to do more, I believe they have reached their ceiling. Stadium build and adios!
Cider spurs
Cider, think you're missing my point in the first paragraph ... to many it is not obvious that Spurs want to finish as high as possible due to the lack of urgency to build on WC players and not sell them asa a big bid comes in or they want to go ... I would love to have seen Modric, VdV, Bale, Berbatov, Keane and King in ONE team... to some it seems that Spurs are happy to be on the cusp ... the TV money, EPL position money and sponsorship would not dry up... people already know each club's limitations on spending by their behaviours (aspiration?)

Totally agree with you on the second paragraph - I'm so pleased about the stadium and I appreciate the legal hold ups and I know the ENIC will scarper asa it's built... but I do think ENIC does owe a fair bit to us and need to speed up the development in areas that they have control of!
Highgatespur
Highgate...I agree ENIC have not really spent any money on players of late other than that of reinvestment. ( Cue the new money debate LOL!). There actions do at times leave me wondering how much are they actually into Spurs, but part of me also sees our limitations, and how far we have come with said limitations. In truth, I'm pretty sure ENIC make sure there is enough money left in the pot for themselves first and foremost, sometimes at detriment to the club, that's the thing, I believe ENIC will want to finish as high as possible in the league, but maybe I should have said, not at all costs, they need their wedge.
Cider spurs
Anyway Highgate...I will bid you goodnight and thank you for the chat. Hopefully talk tomorrow. ;-)

This living in Phoenix business ruins the VS time !

Lloris I feel will stay another year.

Looking forward to seeing MoPo at work with the squad we have.

Seems Dawson is leaving, lets hope our fitness frailties do not return, we will need all our other CBs to stay fit.

Will we see any departures from the squad?

A few names mentioned as arrivals, none really exciting, perhaps Lamela will be the player we wanted last year. Pleased to read he trained all Summer, same for Townsend, the latter not my favourite but perhaps our manager will get him working.

Would like to see another striker though, with Ade possibly off to the Afcon in February, Soldado and Kane may not be enough. My choices from Bony and Lukaku, or both.

Highate.....a/c is on constantly, soooo hot ! Hope you are enjoying sunshine.

007 topho ! Licensed to type! Welcome back. COYS

Must admit, I think it's going to be tough to find a top quality centre half. I think City will try to upgrade Demichelis and Chelsea may look to replace Luis. We know Rodgers is in the hunt for Lovren and I'm assuming Van Gaal will want to replace Rio and Vidic. Vermaelen is leaving Arsenal so they're also a defender short. That's practically the 6 biggest Prem teams looking for centre halves so the prices will go sky high. It will be interesting to see who Baldini / Poch go for.

I've read a few articles that have said Savic has improved alot since leaving Man City, Not seen too much of him to comment, but he does know what to expect league wise.

Interesting to see so many young spurs players welcomed back into the main group. OWN GOAL.....Mr.LEVY.....we (my son and me....will NOT be Buying any home shirt with Big red letters on it. BSF - you're correct that THFC is a business, it is a business that is owned by another business ENIC, which in turn is owned by Lewis and Levy family(that is an important distinction)...and they of course can sell or invest as much as they like BUT I disagree that people can't or shouldn't hold them to account, if people want to boycott games or demonstrate or hold up banners saying Levy out then good for them, that's their view and they are perfectly entitled to it.....you see there are not many businesses where the customers are so brand loyal but that brand is THFC not ENIC. Cider above mentions Joe putting his own money in (lol, it went to buy the club, not into the club for players) but I'm not asking for that. I like others just want THFC to invest the money THFC raises into the team and not have resources funneled away so that ultimately ENIC can walk away with hundreds of millions of pounds profit leaving THFC and the loyal fan base picking up the tab...If you believe Levy is a fan like anyone else you may also believe in fairy's...I don't believe in either. This is what? the 6th club that ENIC have owned was Levy a fan of all those as well?...Did they leave all those clubs with a rosy future? Rangers did so well after they left didn't they?

If it ever gets developed..or sold. Personally, I'd love to retire to the Bahamas.......but, I couldn't tear myself away from visiting WHL's....superb atmosphere, on matchdays. And the Outstanding New stadium design...with it's fantastic kop type end......the roar of 20,000 to 50,000..yids. I cannot "See" Levy (clue)....leaving (clue).. till all has materlised.

spot on as usual Shedboy2. not to mention all the tv revenue, none of which has been used to invest in new players. With Del boy and Rodney still looking after the transfer side of things i cant see why any fan thinks this window will be any more successful than the last five.Trying to swop siggy two for one must be a joke, but i doubt it.
topspur53
Del Boy and Rodney? Two loveable rogues, chancers, wannabe's, that eventually, lived out their dream. He who dares, is to do, you plonker!
MAN ON!
I thought Lloris played well for us and France hes a very decent Keeper.
Slurms McKenzie
He tends to play with a certain Joie de vivre and brings a touch of Je nous se qua to our back line!
Slurms McKenzie
Shedboy as usual you are absolutely spot on, THFC is used purely as a vehicle to ultimately make ENIC a massive profit from it's eventual sale. As you rightly say, no club among the many they have previously owned, has ultimately benefited from their ownership, they were used, as we are being.
