It had to happen that talk of Hugo Lloris would start as soon as France went out of the World cup and no doubt the same will happen to Jan Vertongen once Belgium lose.
Hugo, who has had an impressive World Cup, hardly settled our nerves or media speculation as he was a little vague over his future as he was quoted saying: "I do not know my future. I have a three-year contract with Tottenham and this is the most important thing. Currently, I am focused only on my holiday, the ability to relax, then we will see in the next few days."
Once again with a new manager and our having only ability to guess potential buyers intentions, we have no definitive clue as to whether Lloris wants to leave, Spurs would be happy to cash in, when his value might be higher after a good tournament. or even if there is genuine serious interest from the likes of PSG, Madrid or whoever.
From Spurs perspective, I feel they have to look to keep him, even if he refuses to sign a new and improved deal this summer. As he himself is quoted, he has three years remaining on his contract, therefore you would think that pressure will only be forced to get him to sign up or be sold next summer, when his value will start to decline once he enters the final 24 months of his contract
Once again what seems to be essential for Spurs is that they retain some form of stability and a hint that they are looking to stay with the elite group of clubs. If rumours are correct that we are selling Michael Dawson and a few others, the need to keep others that might be willing to give us another year is a must and unless they are looking to force a move or someone offers a staggeringly big sum, we have to keep hold of players of the quality of Hugo as a statement that we retain ambition for the Champions league places...
