Toronto FC vs Spurs

All a little last minute dot com here, but as most will be tucked up in bed with work in mind, as opposed to Tottenham`s play, I suppose I might get away with itÖ

Its game two of the Poch revolution and for me, it is another opportunity to see the players get some cohesion to their individual game, build on their fitness and work on the managers playing ethos, which we saw some minor hints of in Seattle.

It seems reasonable to ignore the often misplaced passes and ill timed touch at this stage of the season and these games are more about building a platform for the next couple of weeks and perhaps once we see the returns of the World Cup players and the injured trio of Sandro, Vlad (if they are still wanted) and Ade, we can start to judge the progress and playing style to come.

Though only just announced, it will be interesting to see if Ben Davies makes an appearance, whilst I`m not sure whether Michel Vorm is in the party as yet. With a severe lack of centre halves, is it another chance for Fryers to play CB and let Rose and Davies look to lay claim for the LB role? Tonight is also one for Jermain Defoe to savour and how he will enjoy facing his former team mates.

Perhaps I missed something, but where was Christian Eriksen against Seattle? Will he make an appearance tonight and likewise will the ground suit Kyle Walker? Much like the opener, I expect to see many half time changes and a mixed squad to give as many players as possible a decent run out, after all that (and gaining friends) is what these games are all about...

Defoe hat trick! Soldado Hat trick! Magic!
MAN ON!
First things first its great to have Ben Davies on board!
jvd
Man on you beat me to it!
jvd
Be interesting to see if Dawson and Kabuol play together and the 2 youngsters play together. See how they cope.
longtimespur
Looking forward to see some more young uns on display and yes, hopefully Christian and Kyle as well. 3-3.
MAN ON!
Well I am staying up. The little man had another op today but is home, so I am gonna watch the match tonight and rest with him during his recovery tomorrow! V excited to see the boys back on the pitch again! COYS! best supported team in the US of A!!!
Dublin Hotspur
gonna watch this one, cant really pick a winner, so my money is on BTTS
123spurs
Assuming Davis will be the first choice left back,
Next question is who will be playing in front of him,
perhaps a few clues tonight?
MrFrancis
Can Soldado score 2 goals, or more, in one game ?
82spursdebut
82, its a pre season friendly! doesn't really matter, the most important thing is seeing the youngsters play, get a glimpse of the system and see the seniors make a difference when it counts! its also important to lose to a club owned by one of our biggest retail partners on the planet!!
Dublin Hotspur
Dublin,
tonight is the easy late-nighter

the next match is when it gets difficult to explain to her-indoors why you are staying up to ungodly hours watching football.
MrFrancis
Practice makes perfect.........shoot Soldado shoot, Goals builds confidence.
82spursdebut
LTS - my first thought the young ones will make a better pairing... if Dawson's not playing may be heeded some advice and Hull is calling...
Highgatespur
Dublin, give the little man a big hug for me! What a courageous young lad he is!
Highgatespur
Matters to the people paying good money, to see effective entertaining football.
82spursdebut
http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/videos-spurs-open-training-session-wide.html watch some of Spurs training on crosses.
longtimespur
Good to see the players working towards game situations.
longtimespur
82spurs ... didn't Soldado score a hat-trick for us or was I dreaming?
longtimespur
He did.
MAN ON!
Mr Francis, LOL, the world cup paved the way for a lot of late night football. I am now medically in withdrawal symptoms and found myself watching west ham in NZ early this morning too. Luckily the Mrs' Late dad was a Yid too so she understands !

Highgate, Hug given on your behalfÖthank you buddy!
Dublin Hotspur
Long time ago.
82spursdebut
something that is not much talked about on here.we get a lot of corners and free kicks in great areas, but we fail each time, even if playing bad with good set pieces could still put you in the lead.
123spurs
Very true.....you are right, we do not make the most out of our set pieces.
82spursdebut
as Longtime linked, good to see set pieces being practiced. 82, Robbie was our only player to get a hat trick last season (around early Dec? so not that long ago. got dropped soon after for are when Tim came in! give the kid a chance (and he isn't 30 yet so is still a kid! look at Cahill, still got it at 35!)
Dublin Hotspur
Lads is there any links for the game tonight, just incase the tv tour pass tv fails. I can't remember if the broadcast kicks in now or just before 12 am COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
any links for the game
123spurs
I bet Teddy S could still knock 'em in at the grand old age of 48. Give him 5 mins as a super sub and he'll get you a winner.
MAN ON!
Looks like Davies is starting. So is Eriksen. COYS

I'll be watching on wiziwig. Some good and bad streams but I usually find one that's ok.

Line-up: Friedel, Naughton, Kaboul, Veljkovic, Davies, Capoue, Mason, Lamela, Lennon, Eriksen, Soldado.

Substitutes: McGee, Fredericks, Walker, Rose, Dawson, Fryers, Falque, Carroll, Ceballos, Townsend, Holtby, Kane.

BigSpursFan
according to the daily mirror we will give holtby plus dawson plus money for ron vlaar.what a feckin joke if true
tarkan mardinCOYS
Blimey Davies starts that was a surprise and quick, he must have been signed up earlier and as some said trained with the squad. I bet the delay in announcing was down to Siggy sorting contract out over here, time different etc Looking forward to seeing him and some improvement from first game, some Poch DNA on the team.
BigSpursFan
tarkan-media rubbish. Holtby is going nowhere imo. he is young, hungry and the type of player Poch will relish bringing on. I think players like Paulinho, Dembele and even Chadli are more likely to be shipped out.
BigSpursFan
tarkan mardinCOYS. That has to be nonsense....
MAN ON!
i hope we can keep holtby im sure the loan to fulham helped him, you can judge a player after one season. we sometimes expect to much to soon but doesnt always happen like that, sometimes u just gotta wait.
123spurs
post that on the thread
123spurs
shows Poch is not scared to show he is in charge with playing Davies straight away
BigSpursFan
Official site is showing stuff now
BigSpursFan
Good signing and hope Davies shows why we brought him - more interceptions and tackles last season than any player in spurs squad. Defend first, then work on getting forward.
Windlespur
Takes balls to do that. LVG has competition.
MAN ON!
Just woke up. Morning all. Looks like I missed some confirmations while I was asleep ... Davies, Vorm, - donít know what happened to the Modric confirmation so I might go back to bed!
Geofspurs
Is anyone watching on 'Spurs Tour pass now'
How many takes does John Champion need???
MrFrancis
3-0 Spurs!! Life is good.
Geofspurs
Ox ... I wondered the same thing about Eriksen, unless MP wants to get a good look at the youngsters and the ones heís unsure about. I hope Ceballos starts!
Geofspurs
Now John Champion is off having a coffee.
That is the best commentary we will get all night.
MrFrancis
MrFrancis. I'm watching it but no volume.

MAN ON!
Hi Highgate (if you are about), re your question/comment on the Davies thread. Yep! Who could've predicted Davies to make more than an appearance?!!.....me!!!!. Looking forward to game. Eriksen in too. Hope the WC returnees integrate soon. At this rate, can't see a birth for Nabil in the team. Poch is definitely not the 'keep it simple' type of a guy! COYS!
Critical_Spur
Hope Lamela shows his true colors and Davies impresses. I'm spoiled this week, get to see the game in the evening for once and it's in HD in ESPN2 and then I mooing to the Chicago game next week. I traveled 10 hours in the car from Tennessee with four children under 8.
SwankyYankee
Yay for Ben Davies! Could this be the game when we finally see Eriksen, Lamela and Holtby on the pitch at the same time? COYS!

The next game kicks off an hour later !

LAMELA LA LA LA!
MAN ON!
So is lennon on the left or down the middle?
Slurms McKenzie
A really good set up, far more solid with Capoue and mason and then lots of attacking options. Lamela and Lennon look very lively so far. Great goal and it was coming. Good to see you Eric.
Windlespur
Davies always showing up in space to give an option. Capoue may not have the best distribution, but he really does cover the back four well and break up opponents play - hope he gets a run there.
Windlespur
regardless of the opposition, I am loving what I am seeing! Off the ball movement from all the players is brill. Closing down the opposition very quickly is another plus. Can't remember the last time I saw us play this high tempo quick interchanges. COYS!
Critical_Spur
soldado up front on hes own agian, same formation as our last 2 managers doesnt seem to be working
123spurs
Harsh on Ade describing him as a quote unquote cancer in the locker room if he doesn't play!!
Slurms McKenzie
Movement behind Soldado looks decent but Solly is missing as the searhead of the attack.
Slurms McKenzie
ya heard that slurms what a joke, who does he think he is, if it wasnt for ade, we wouldnt be in EL. amazing what the word on the street gets around
123spurs
I would have thought Toronto would have been more up for this game what with Defoe and Nelson being ex players! I wish the commentators would spend less time telling me I' watching ESPN and informing me about all the other ways of also watching ESPN!
Slurms McKenzie
all is good until the final 3rd we have been down that road before.
123spurs
Does Lamela have a right foot , great work rate so far but very predictable.
South L/Derry Spurs
Is Davies a right footed left back ?

123spurs
So if Soldado doesn't score but assists for every goal we score will that be enough? I wish Lennon would drift wide right and let Eriksen play through the middle
Slurms McKenzie
The scratcher is calling and Toronto are soo poor I might not see out the second half. Lovely second goal from Lamela!!
Slurms McKenzie
La la lamela - everywhere you go you take lamela with you Lalalalamela!!!
Highgatespur
Mason and Capoue are playing well together. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Can this tempo be kept for 90 mins in the EPL ?
South L/Derry Spurs
all good but soldado has no chance of scoring, this formation doesnt suit him against a poor MLS team. not been critical but our top 3 attackers havent made any chances for him
123spurs
No real test for Capoue, Mason, Veljkovic or Davies! Kaboul playing as a right winger at times!! Defoe keeps running away from goal with the ball. Toronto are poor nothing like Seattle!
Slurms McKenzie
123 I think if Pochettino hooked Lennon and dropped Soldado back into the hole behind the strike rand brought on Kane he'd be more effective!
Slurms McKenzie
Agree Slurms but they still got to do a job. Their passing and positional play has been excellent. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Who is this Erik Lamela fella? Is he a new signing ;-)
Madaboutspurs
never heard of him. Did he arrive from Swansea with the other two fellas?
MAN ON!
Toronto are poor but the way our front 4 are changing places and moving around is encouraging. Not sure if I like Lennon on the left and Eriksen on the right, although Eriksen and Lamela are changing places all the time. If Lennon plays he should be played as a right winger. Davies already looks so much better than Rose. Love the way he sees the free space and makes himself available for a pass.
Jables
I think Soldado played well. I like the movement up front. It's what I was expecting to see. Lennon's also played well.
MAN ON!
Slurns- the three behind Soldado interchanging, Lennon, Eriksen and Lamela. It is working well but still think Soldado needs to work harder closing down, but he is assisting so that better.

I actually think Lennon is having a decent game, he seems to be rejuvenated with a freer role, interchanging but Eriksen is not at his best yet. Lamela is loving his role and took his goals very well. I just think the opposition is poor and when that happens its hard to evaluate.

I think Capoue is doing well this game but again the opposition is poor. Davies started with a bit of nervousness but settled quickly and looks good but again not really tested.

what I can see this game is more of Poch's DNA which is what I want to see. These guys will have to work hard if they want to play that is for sure.

Be interesting to see how Ade does in this team, if he is up for it I think he will do more work than Soldado but will he get into the box enough as he likes to drop deep.

Mason has not looked out of place either, just think Toronto are poor.
BigSpursFan
Totally agree with you Critical - great to see the fluidity... loving the game .. veljkovic, Mason Lamela Coupe look quite up for it!! COTMS...
Highgatespur
Pocho's experimenting a bit, which is what these matches are for, as well as fitness...
MAN ON!
Toronto are playing it safe. They're in the middle of their season with a lot of games coming up.
MAN ON!
Enjoyable so far. Front 4 interchanging well and 2 goals from open play. COYS
longtimespur
The Liverpool v Roma match on BT Sport 1 is some way behind the Toronto v Spurs on BT Sport 2.
Airwave
against a half decent team things would be different
123spurs
123-agree Soldado is not suited to what we are trying to achieve, it was the same under AVB. he does not work hard enough,m he is not in the build up enough, he is a player that thrives on crosses in the area not short passing. He will assist if he gets the ball around the area but that relies on midfielders doing the runs and in the Pl they will not have that amount of time and space and then Soldado becomes redundant. I actually think Kane is better suited. I still think we need a different type of striker
BigSpursFan
We have to remember this is only second game and Poch is looking at all players and trying stuff out so its good so far in that respect. I think this friendly is not enough for us though because Toronto are not busting a gut due to their own commitments coming up which takes the bite out of the game. Nelsen said at half time, he jut doesn't want any injuries.
BigSpursFan
Kane will play the second half. Soldado was working hard and played alright. It's early days. Enjoy.
MAN ON!
I just like the energy being shown and the finishing by Eric - good stuff. Slurms it is being played in between important league games for Toronto,,, good display by the Spurs!
Highgatespur
Liverpool playing Roma we play Toronto - I think we ought to be playing more competitive team.
BigSpursFan
maybe slurms, how many shots has our stricker had?
123spurs
i think Kaboul is playing well and Davies is doing well with his first start Capoue is looking better and Lamela is enjoying this free role and im expecting good things from him this season he looks sharper and happier been following the guys tweets there seams alot more team spirit on this tour

Godspur'e
it grand to be working hard but we bought him to score goals big difference
123spurs
Ok Toronto aren't at their best, but their schedule is insane atm. We can only play who we face, but its HOW we perform as a Team that really counts. At the beginning we pressed them high, after the goal we let off a bit. Then pushed on again, then after 5 mins we scored again. Both times Lamela took his goal well, after excellent build up play. Capoue has been a rock, the 2 youths have done well, Veljkovic has been particularly good. Davies has looked a bit nervous, but he's only just signed for us & he's not made any howlers, so I can't see how he deserves any grief? Lennon has yet again been a workhorse, the left isn't his side, however he's worked brilliantly with Eriksen & Lamela. Soldado has showed true class yet again & his play alongside Lamela, will produce us an awesome future. COYS

Great second goal for Toronto but we are awful at the back. The attacking half of our second half team looks okay but defensively a shambles I blame Dawson as the senior player at the back he should be marshalling the youngsters!

Slurms McKenzie
Man ON I thought Rose was doing okay as well but I'm also very tired.
Slurms McKenzie
lol love how the American commentator says that "if you give Townsend the ball it will hit the back of the net 9 times out of 10!" Has he ever watched Tottenham before? Nice finish though.

I agree slums I think Rose is doing well he might not be first choice but he's good rotation. Daws is the weak link so painful watching him run.

Rapm I had a chuckle at his makey-up stat as well! Three goals scored, only two concede we're averaging 2.5 goals a game against us but 3 for us! Dawson was again very poor. walker was also very rusty back after his injury. Rose did okay only a couple of marauding runs up the pitch. Fryers is not a CB. the attacking side of the team was fine. I'm going to bed now. I'll pay for this in the morning!!!
Slurms McKenzie
spurs dont do common sense, if they did they probably be the best team in the world

123spurs
Thought Toronto were better second half and we had a weaker team second half so it made it a good contest. I thought we were starting to see the difference between the senior and some of the youngsters although they worked hard. The defense was a problem again and I hate to say this because I like Dawson but his game has dropped so much this last season and now in pre season. Fryers is too inexperienced so I am thinking may be we will need two CB's. With all the games I cannot see how we can cope at the back with what we have either. I would say Fryers and the youngster in the first half may not be quite ready this season. kaboul injury prone, dawson seems unable to have a decent game anymore and that leaves Vlad who has yet to impress enough and Vertonghen who imo at the moment is the only decent CB.

Kaboul will not be able to play more than one game a week or he will break down. I would say CB is a major concern. I also would say the striker position is also a concern, but not as much as CB
BigSpursFan
Poch would have learnt a lot tonight so that is good.

MAN ON!
Merely a game to raise match sharpness and for MP to access the squad further, although i try not to get carried away with pre-season friendlies i feel Lamela will be our most creative player if he overcomes the pace and the physical aspect of the BPL. Him, eriksen, and lennon all working in tandem and shifting positions behind soldaldo is a mouth watering prospect if they click.
spurfect one
Gotta say that Azza played a lot better tonight ... The fluidity amongst the mid 3 was good to see.
Highgatespur
Thought Capoue played well against the Sounders and followed up tonight with a very good first half and bossed the middle, he seems to fit in well with MPs style of moving the ball quickly thru the midfield and I also thought his distribution was very good in both games. For me this kid has the potential to be a real box2box player. The attacking three up top also played with some energy and purpose, both goals were from good buildup and clever play. Well done Lamela, two nice goals will do his confidence the world of good. It wont always be this easy but good signs. Davies didn't do anything wrong in his first appearance, found space going forward, sound at the back.
notnats
My two cents worth, Lamela was very creative, executed well and looks truly motivated. Lennon has worked hard in both games. Soldado worked hard and made great choices with the ball. Eriksen looked a bit off but the quality was clear. Mason was largely invisible. He is not at that level. Capoue did little but he was competent in what he did. Naughton was ok. Davies looked composed, if a bit robotic. Kaboul was dominant. Veljkovic was composed and, but for one loose pass. Friedel was slow. He's good but I think Lloris would have gotten the second goal. Second half. Holtby looked very industrious and he got about the park. Rose made two very good crosses. Was ok defending. Fryers, good and bad. He's got a ways to go. Dawson was very poor. Walker, but for one run, a poor shot and a petulant kick which would normally have been a red card, looked awful. First action, so he gets a do-over. Townsend took his goal well. Other than that, I'd have suggested the 18 year old Canadian Jordan Hamilton was the better player. Ceballos was very poor. He is not at the level. Falque had moments, otherwise invisible. Kane had some good touches and got in to good positions. As for our "style", I don't see it. We leave lots of room in front of the back four. Press hard, but not with a purpose of limiting their exit options or funnelling the play a certain direction. I know it's early days. Both first half goals were the skills of Eriksen, Lennon, Soldado and Lamela. Both goals against were very poor positional play. Long ways to go and all the WC players to come in along with Sandro, Chiriches and Adebayor, not to mention Vorm. We'll have two good XI's but we do need a few more players. 2 CB's if you please. COYS

123 ... or, maybe the real Spurs fans are actually watching the game instead of texting messages everywhere! :-)
Geofspurs
The game can only be analysed in two parts as it was two games. Got to say I loved the movement, passing and link-up play in the first game. The players actually seemed to know each other and what their role was. If this is the way MP gets us to play Iím going to wait at least two more weeks before I call for him to go. The second game (strange that Brad played in both) was far less enjoyable ... but itís still all about fitness and showing the boss what they can, or canít, do. The more you think about it and see, the more you realise the amount of options that MP has ... and I canít wait to see who he decides to start with against that team that Slurms is not sure whether he likes or not!!

I really don't get the hate on for Soldado. He worked hard and got two assists. Both times he could have turned and took low percentage shots (Defoe, Townsend) but instead he hit the open man who scored. Still not good enough. He didn't score. It takes all players to make a team. I'm sure he'd love to be scoring too, but you have to play the game as it comes. How many shots did he miss, scuff or fire in to the stands. Honestly. It's pre-season. And Slurms is it really necessary to have a go at Canadians or Torontonians. AS for TFC, it is embarrassing that a lot of their second line players out-worked and out-perfomed Spurs second group. Other than Holtby and Rose, I really did not see much purposeful industry out there. The young Canadian, Jordan Hamilton, looked better than most. COYS
peterballb
The difference in skill between the two teams was obvious. TFC rested a few first team players because they have a big game on Saturday, so basically the first half was first team -5 for both teams. The passing wasn't quite there but there were some promising signs - like the Soldado pass, Lennon dummy, and Lamela getting on the end of it for a goal. The second half was more disturbing. Spurs second team vs TFC second team, and TFC was the better team. Not on a skill level so much as a desire level. The TFC subs all looked like they wanted to impress Ryan Nelson, and they pulled it back to 2-2 before Townsend's goal. I think the first team is fine, not top four material though given the signings other teams have made to improve. Ben Davies was terrible, but I'll cut him some slack since he only joined hours before the match.

Apologies but no match report. Just got back in from work and watched the game, time for a little shut eye. I'll write one after the Chicago match and incorporate a bit of what I have just witnessed.

What I will say is the movement and closing down first half was excellent. Soldado linked up well, but did not see him in any positions to worry the keeper by way of shots on goal. Nice to see Davies, thought he offered himself for an outball very well and did pull a couple of balls back to edge of box for shots. Most enjoyable thing for me as stated, was the movement from the 3 in behind the striker, Lamela took his goals well, and the zip in our play was great to see.

Despite a lack of stiff opposition in the first Ďgameí, itís obvious how much the passing and movement has improved since the Sounders game. I find that extremely encouraging! Wonder who will start in the Chicago game? That will be interesting!
Geofspurs
Geof I reckon Pocho will pick the best 11 he's seen on tour and the 2nd half will be a mix of last chance to shine and players who are almost certain being in the final squad for the new season. Any thoughts on your best 11 so far Geof? COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
I will watch the game today but sounds like the lads had a good run out. There was no injuries and Pochettino is getting is ideas across, all is good.
Kong
We still have the WC players to return as well as any new signings. I am looking forward to seeing how this squad develops.
Kong
James ... That oneís too hard for me, mate. Iíll have to leave the picking to MP at this stage. Weíve still got to see how the WC Ďstarsí shape up. Whenever I try to pick a team I just want to change it again every time I look at it!! Picking the score is much easier ... you know I always get that right!
Geofspurs
Kong it's definitely shaping up well. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Geof you're right. 3 is working for you and Pocho :) 3 goals scored last week, 3 this week, 3 games for the tour, possibly 3 goals this weekend and a possible 3rd signing? So we just need to win the EPL title, Europa and FA Cup to complete the cycle. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Only saw the first half. Thought the energy levels and closing were very good but I doubt that the lads could keep that up for 90 minutes so we'll have to see how Poch paces the play, especially if we go behind. Thought Capoue was excellent, Lamella took his goals well and generally worked very hard and Brad's distribution was shocking. I think the pressing plus Capoue gave the back 4 time to look untroubled although I noticed Kaboul limping after landing heavily which isn't surprising with 20 stone upper body landing on thin legs. The opposition were poor so all I would draw from this is that Poch's ideas are being picked-up and it remains to be see if they work in the League. Promising though.
Harry-Kari
James ... Should be a doddle!
Geofspurs
Harry ... MP has worked out how to keep the pace up for 90 minutes ... he completely changes the team at half-time ... and nobody has thought of that before! Is he good, or what?
Geofspurs
I was delighted by the Townsend goal . It was then pointed out to me that it probably meant his chance completion was at probably 1000-1 now !! Not an impressive display from Andros yet again.
Highgatespur
I'd have thought that some posters wouldn't have been impressed by Davies as he didn't scowl enough, he didn't rampage upfield without a thought, shrug his shoulders at not being able to run back, he looked for a pass instead of giving the ball away, he crossed accurately instead of sending a missile like shot towards WHL!!!! Well done Ben Davies !!!
Highgatespur
It has been an excellent tour for most of the squad so far, including the playing members of the 7. It will be interesting to see the selection for the final game. One thing clear though it has been nothing but a unsatisfactory one for Dawson and Townsend. IMO both have plummeted in their standings of the squad. Kaboul and Azza, in similar positions, stepped up. Might be time to invest in others - adios Townsend and Dawson ?
Highgatespur
Agree. Azza had a good game and had a hand in both goals in the 1st half. Looked a handful everytime he had the ball. COYS!
a.k.a.james1spurs
Innovator I believe is the term Geof!, Harry to be fair to Toronto they were given very little time in the first half on the ball, in the second half our more lightweight midfield failed to put as much pressure on them giving them more time on the ball and they showed that they are a decent team and able to play some nice football.

Their first goal was a mistake from Carroll trying to play a deft pass which went straightoot the opposition, Dawsona dn Fryers were caught out of position because Carroll was under no pressure and the Toronto lad took his goal well. The second goal was a very decent strike with some nice build up play before hand but again teh back line was not working as a unit and Fryers showed that he is not a CB but demonstrated witha couple of well timed tackles that he is a defender!

We still created a number of good chances in the second half before townsend scored, he should have had one just before it from Rose's cross. Cabellos could have had two goals himself but again very little chances created for the striker!

Our starting eleven were much better drilled on how Poch wants them to play, two proper CBs and a proper holding midfielder meant they controlled the game far better. The movement from Lamela, Lennon and Eriksen meant alot of close control passes and Soldado being used as the link up to release either Eriksen or Lamela. This movement also kept Toronto on the back foot and Canadian's probably didn't do justice to themselves in that first half!

As its propably not cricket to go out and humilitate your hosts on a pre-seaosn tour where the ulitmate goal is to increase commercial awareness of the brand I'd say the crowd got what they wanted in the end. We got to give Walker a run out, introduce Davies and give more game time to the younger players and the wider squad. Kaboul starting to look like a CB was also a big positive!
Slurms McKenzie
Highgate, while I agree with yoru assessment of dawson I will say in Townsend's defense he is coming backl from a long term injury so I wouldn't expect to see a huge level of improvement in his first or second game under Pochettino. what has been evident in his game though is a bit more of a considered approach, looking for team mates when he has the ball not blasting a shot away every time he's within thirty foot of the goal and he did score a cracking goal and had and other shot saved just before it. I have seen an improvement in Townsend over the two games.
Slurms McKenzie
with the six coming back from WC duties - and with youth as one of the main priorities - I can see Townsend being superseded by the ones on tour as well as by the likes of Chadli - didn't think it would happen but I'm afraid Andros has proved his critics right.... Such a shame ... Probably he knows that QPR is waiting .... Why hasn't he stepped up in these two games ? Given up on hope after words with HR?

Slurms McKenzie
Slurms I'd agree as I want him to succeed at Spurs. But sentimentality aside - the opposition didn't really need a 'fully match fit' Andros to perform. Did you see his attempts to cross the ball ? Yes a more considerate approach was noted; but the basics were missing again. We can't afford another year for him to show his potential at spurs ... He has to step up to the plate. I don't think he could be classified as returning from long term injury - his last game was at Stoke ! Walker was the one returning from long term injury - last game was in March. And did he show it .... At this point probably naughton for RB at the start of season .... Townsend at another club or in the development squad ! Sorry harsh but true ....
Highgatespur
i dont think pochettino will sort the defence out.he will get us to play better football than avb and tim but..
tarkan mardinCOYS
Highgate, I agree he is far from the finished article but there are signs of improvement and on that basis I would be willing to allow Pochettino at least unitl christmas to see if he can mould Townsend into a better player. Walker looked very rusty but then did having dawson s the Cb negatively effect his game as well. Noughton looked the better option but was that down to Kabouls performance??

Slurms McKenzie
Slurms I want Andros to succeed ... I don't want any transfers there... I just feel that sentimentality won't be in place this time around. He needs to step pdq otherwise it could be goodbye ... Certainly as I said previously January would be the time to evaluate but commenting on is at the moment it is disappointing .... Reckon it might be a long road back for walker as well.... Another good workout for the players and showing how they are progressing with Pochettino's ideas. Definitely a game of 2 halves though. First half pretty good team effort. Pressing, passing, movement and 2 well worked goals. Second half so different, TFC did all the pressing apart from Holtby of our players. Their passing and movement up front really exposed our defence. I'm sure Fryers must be having nightmares after that game. He was totally owned by an 18 year old kid! I thought Rose was going to get a yellow followed by a red. Three poor challenges then surly with the ref over a decision all in the first 20 minutes. The front four didn't play as a team they were more just individuals. None of the play and movement of the first half four. Yes they were youngsters but Eriksen and Lamella are only youngsters too. Players to come back from WC and hopefully 2 CBs bought before the season starts. I think they and the rest will make up a very good squad. Another one on Sunday @ 1 am UK time then home. Celtic and Schalke 04 to play before the season kicks off. Looking forward to it. COYS

Highgate-I think Townsend is border line. He has the ability in his locker but he is not producing it and I am not sure we can carry him for another season.

I am so surprised that he cannot go down the LW and cross the ball with his left foot. He doesn't seem to want to be a out and out winger, he is a glory boy who wants to shoot and score. The basics of his game are missing imo whether Poch can bring them out in time or not I am not sure. With Chadli and other to come back and train with Poch Townsend imo is border line to make the squad, if he does I am not convinced he will be a starter.

I think the game also showed us the divide between the men and the lads. It is becoming apparent and I saw Poch DNA starting to come through.

I would say Fryers is not a CB and needs a loan, and a regular position probably LB. I also think Walker has some serious hard work to get back to fitness and I would like to see Federicks have some game time to see if he can step up and be back up but as it goes I would think naughton is first choice at moment, as we only have three friendlies left before PL starts. I would suggest fitting in another friendly, not sure three is enough especially with one being Chicargo and we still have players that have not returned. When they return they only have two friendlies to impress its not enough imo, get another friendly.

I thought Davies did alright looked composed, Rose upped his game, may be the competition is good for Rose.

Lennon was good, he looked like a new player, he has been released of his defensive duties covering Walker, be interesting if Poch feels that his full backs need to defend first so the attacking players can attack, rather than all this covering. I would expect that is Poch way, which will benefit Lennon. I see the CM's having to cover full backs not the attacking wingers, or inverted wingers like Lennon or Townsend. Walker will have to be clever if he is to understand his responsibilities under Poch with not having Lennon tracking back so much. As it stands I say Lennon over Townsend in that attacking formation but we have players to come back so who knows.

LTS Friedel Townsend to add to your list; we always tend to forget the accountability of those who should be made more accountable ... Clicks are ticking for some ...

We were beating teams 5-0 in pre season when Ramos was in charge and look what happened when the season started. reggiekray, as long as Townsend and all the other players are given a fair crack to make a go of it with us then it is up to the player to prove his worth. His goal would not have harmed his chances, shame about his celebration, that will need improving as Lamela's too :).
Kong
The first half was a kind of Mauricio Potchettinno-lesson for the second half changeover, i.e. this is how it is done. Weaker Spurs players were played in that second half but they included strong performers who battle and football their way through tasks. Yet it was a warning, and I liked seeing MP up on his feet at the touchline in both halves getting firm with one or two who needed it. Nice smile, therefore, but he is a serious man who has a likeable way with players, can tutor them, and has a level in mind that he and his staff want to see on the field of play. Stronger, weaker players in the two halves, yes, but WC players are still to return and will stiffen resolve in some positions.
Airwave
Talking about the Goat, he has this to say - The Goat has heard that Schneiderlin and Griezmann are targets, but if they don't come in then it'll be no great disappointment as their roles are adequately filled for now. The team are playing some nice football in midfield, as they push into attack, but the on the defensive side they are totally open, totally exposed. They are going to concede heavily in the Premier League if this is not sorted! Not 1 but 2 top quality centre backs are needed urgently! Sandro must stay and a world class striker, a real goal machine is a must! It won't happen of course, but Danny baby can always prove me wrong! I would love him too!!!

right, heres my opener! stayed up. should have gone to bed at half time. i'm wrecked. I was well impressed with Lamela, Robbie, Capoue and Holtby! This style is gonna suit these boys to a tee. It is very early days, and I really believe it will take a season or so to start seeing real benefits from the change in style and strategy. I'm very excited for the future. The camp seems to be buzzing. I though Ben have a good positive run out for his first spin in our shirt. Well done mate!

I have been thinking all day about poor timmy! he must be choking on his WKD Blue on his holidays in Bognor or Clacton, or wherever he is. Just watched the whole game on tape. Very encouraging performance in the first half with good tempo, pressing, ball retention, and playing good stuff, stand out performers Lamela, and Capoue, but nobody had a poor half really. Second half was a different story, with only Holtby (great energy, pressing, and enthusiasm), Rose, Cellabos (some of the time), and Falque looking like pressing for a 1st team start. The glaring weak link, and contributor to both Toronto goals, guess who, Michael Dawson, he really is becoming a liability, he was just wandering about, marking nobody in particular, not picking up runners, and looking all at sea, and his fellow CB Fryers was nearly as bad. Townsend saved his game by scoring, he did precious little else. Carroll did not do much to speak of, neither did Walker, but only first game back. In general those that would be considered as the first team pool (hopefully not including Dawson, he needs to be outed with some urgency) did OK whereas those as seen as the "2nd string players" showed why this is the case. When the WC players return and hopefully with a decent CB in and perhaps Schneiderlin to compete with Capoue for the DMF role, Capoue showed tonight with his passing that he is suited to our system more than Sandro, we should be alright, although the real test will be playing against PL opposition, better quality, and significantly stronger, and tighter, and less prone to mistakes, than the MLS teams.

ITK from the Goat - From a different source to earlier, The Goat has heard that we've bid a couple of times for Schneiderlin. Also that he wants out so the latest bid is likely to be accepted. The number The Goat is hearing is £16m and that it could take a while if they accept. The Goat's source has also said he's heard nothing about Griezmann and he'd be very surprised if we spent much more if we get Schneiderlin. We've looked at a couple of centre backs but no names were offered up.
Kong
The issue was not just the CB's. There was no monster in the middle of the park bossing things. Capoue did so much effortlessly in the first half and Kaboul took care of the rest. The balance of the players tried to get the ball to the attacking players. Had Sandro been there in the second half it would have been very different. Carroll just didn't get it done. Too many loose passes and poor choices and, other than Holtby, the other four up front didn't really bother to get back leaving lots of space in between. I thought the kids in the second group were far too cavalier. Also, Rose's crosses were very good and he looked far better than Walker. COYS

Enjoyed the 1st half immensely, a breath of fresh air that I haven't seen around Spurs for a very looong time. Just few minor observations:

1. A game of two halves/two teams! The 1st half team IMO are the players who are conforming to the Poch philosophy, hence the fluidity.

2) 2nd half team of players that are being asked to deliver, but some simply incapable, others unfortunate to be in the group (Hotby).

3. Townsend may have excelled in the 1st half team, but still has signs of selfishness + running in to cul-de-sacs.

4. The build up from the back was good in 1st half, but 2nd half no off-the-ball runs made it difficult to allow this, as such hoofing by Friedel.

5. Just a passing note, in the 2nd half camera showed Poch on the touchline getting irate with something. I thought (based on his Southampton demeanour) he was a Harryesq character slumped in the chair.

On the whole, work in progress, but the 'key' players of yesteryear need to step up. One or two IMO are in the last chance saloon. COYS!

As one or two have stated earlier, another pre-season game might be handy for match fitness ... especially as they have such a big squad on tour and most players might only play half of each game. Maybe, because they do have a good size squad, THFC should pick two sides to play each other and open the gates for their supporters, free entry. The fans should enjoy having a close look at the players and it would be a good PR move? Won't happen of course.
Geofspurs

Geofspurs
T.H.F.Chris, Sorry mate, don't agree with "Some players don't even bother and personally I am quite happy with that".

First of all I don't believe that attitude will do for Poch. The new managers needs to assess players in semi-competitive environment. If they can't do it at this level, then there is no hope! For some of the players these friendlies are or should be make or break to get in to the 25 man squad. If they a not adapting to Poch philosophy, then they'd best look for pastures new. There is a lot of pressure all round to build on from the fiasco of last two seasons. So, imo, no one should be happy with any half-hearted kick about. IMO, Lamela truly showed he enjoyed scoring those goals despite the fact the goals meant 'nothing' in the context of the pre-season. Hope AT sees his goal as a positive too. COYS!
Critical_Spur
As for Davies, IMO, he did little wrong in his first game in the lilywhite shirt. That in itself is an instant improvement over Rose! COYS!

The biggest factor in strikers being successful is confidence. Letís hope Lamelaís two goals (and maybe more in pre-season) will give him the confidence to take into the new season. Be nice if Soldado could find the net a couple of times too!
Geofspurs
Geofspur, IMO, Soldado (partly due to his age) is the wrong lone striker. A lone striker does a lot of headless chasing as he often has to nick the ball from 4 defender + goalie. hardly surprising that he appears tired with almost aimless running! Lamela is building an understanding with him and with his energy, I think we will begin to see a more productive Soldado. Like you, hope he starts banging them in for fun! COYS!
Critical_Spur
Critical ... I agree that Soldado has not been the best lone striker for us. It was probably unfortunate for him that last season was such a mess and lacked any consistency all over the park. He does seem to hold the ball up a bit more now, although obviously not as well as Ade, and looks to put someone else through on goal, but thatís not really what heís there for. Maybe this season there could be more understanding up front and some decent partnerships forming which will make his game more productive. MP could be the right man to pull it together but, after last seasonís disappointments, Iím trying not to get too far ahead of myself with expectations! But it will be all hope and glory when the season starts!

I disagree T.H.F Chris, our whole squad is playing for their futures, reputation counts for nothing and those that aren't giving 100% even in pre-season won't make the cut in Poch's plans. People make far too much of a deal about who scores the goals. Soldado got in to a few great positions but the chances never made it to him. That's the way it goes. He earned and converted a penalty against Seattle and he had two assists against Toronto, setting up a better positioned player rather than just turning and firing because he is a "striker". We have seen enough of that over the years. Both he and Kane did a lot of harrying and also managed to hold the ball up and get it out to the other attacking players. Very often the strikers had team mates ahead of them because of this. If any of Soldado, Adebayor or Kane stop shooting when they are the best placed person or if they are consistently offside or consistently scuff chances then we can proceed to jump all over them. Kane almost had a great goal and, really, there were more crosses from open play in the second half than in the first. Just how it worked out.

Yes, Davies looked competent, if a bit too deliberate. Rose looked the better player though and he provided two really useful crosses and was the best of the back four that were out there in the second half. He needs a move because he is the current whipping boy, not because he is not a dcent left back for a pressing system. If we were a park the bus team or wanted our FB's to stay at home, he would not suit the system. He does get forward and he does provide crosses. Yesterday's were good. Normally they are as poor as Walker's, you know, that great England RB who has been worse than Rose since Rose came in to the squad. It's ok, he'll move on and we'll have the petulent non-thinking Walker to applaud. At least Lamela and Chadli have shown that they track back and cover as does Lennon. To his credit Townsend was doing better a that last season too though the first two pre-season games this year he seems to only play one direction. For that matter, Dawson (who was really poor yesterday and did nothing to keep Fryers focused or to control the back) needs to go too as the din of get lost has been replaced by a rumble of get lost. IMO he is still a competent fill-in but needs to be beside someone who marshalls the back 4, such as Vertonghen. The need for another competent PL CB is becoming dire. COYS

Dublin when I said Tapes, i meant I had recorded the whole game from ESPN on my Sky+HD recorder, once I had watched it this morning I deleted it as my disc has only 15% space left.
Frank
I really want us to get in there for Schar and think we should consider Bennett from Norwich. Positionally solid and he does get about in the opposition box on corners. Kaboul looked great but he will have to be managed if we want to have him available for most league games. Fryers is not there. Veljkovic looked ok, but he was a little rash in some of his tackles and his positioning needs a bit of work. Really wish we had managed to get Jedvaj in last summer. COYS

There are some media rumors circulating suggesting we are showing interest in Ron Vlaar, apparently we are determined to beat Southampton to his signature. It is said that we may offer a player/s part exchange deal, plus one or two loans to boost Villa's squad numbers. I wouldn't necessarily mind this, but the player being mooted to go the other way in an exchange deal is Holtby. I think in both the pre-season games, he has fully bought into the high energy pressing game of MP, and scored a good goal v Seattle, I think there are others we could better afford to lose than him. The need for a second proper CB to compete with Kaboul (when fit), and Chiriches to partner Vertonghen, who should revert regularly to CB, now that Davies in in to cover the LB position, was made perfectly and patently obvious by Dawson's second woeful pre-season performance last night in Toronto. This together with his displays in most of last season, must signal his imminent departure from Spurs once this compensation payment for the loss of a testermonial gets sorted out. He simply is not suited to the type of game we are now playing, his total lack of pace and positional awareness is being cruelly exposed, and it will only get worse as we progress this system in the PL against better opposition.
Frank
Frank, swap deals rarely work out (yes, I know Sigurdson was swapped for Davies yesterday, but still). It would be foolish to sell Holtby at this time. His market value is very low, he seems to be buying in and he was definitely the best of the second bunch on the pitch yesterday. He is also the most complete replacement for Eriksen. I would be giving him every opportunity to be in the squad and, if he seems surplus, would only consider a loan so he canshow his value. His loan to Fulham was a disaster. Goes in to play for one manager and, just as he gets there, they fire that manager and bring in one who considered him a waste of space when he previously coached him (not that that stopped him making and captaining the German U-21 team). Whether we play hiom or loan him, I wuld not consider selling him (assuming he is not part of Pochettino's plans) until he has been given the opportunity to show what he has in his locker. Far better potential than Sigurdsson and Sigurdsson was worth Davies. COYS
peterballb
Vlaar is a solid defender who has been competently used across the back at Villa. I would have no worries if he were brought in for a reasonable fee. That would allow us to buy some time at getting in a couple of young studs. Perhaps we can use a few loan deals to get them to budge (Lambert does no want him sold). Let Harry have Hangeland, we'll take Vlaar. COYS

spot on pete and Frank, No way should Holtby leave. Taxi for dawson though.

Anybody that missed the game and has access to BT Sport there's a repeat at 19.30 UK time tonight. I will watch it again, having stayed up last night, to see if I can pick up on some of the points raised by others on here.

Although he impressed v highly at the WC - he was at the opposite end at PL games for Villa - please don't !!
Highgatespur
Capoue's first half performance last night in screening the back four, winning his tackles and with his crisp and largely accurate passing and his general body language and enthusiasm showed him to be a lot better player than AVB or Sherwood suggested, and should make him our DMFer in front of Sandro, and whether we get Schneiderlin or not (I personally can't see it happening, he will end up at Arscum).
Frank
Highgatespur, to be fair to Vlaar he was trying to plat saw dust, trying to make that lot at Villa into a back 4 last season. It was like playing for the school 1st X1 surrounded by Baker and Co. a load of inexperienced kids. Never mind Ron Vlaar, Dynamo couldn't make defenders out of them.
Frank
I thought Capoue played well, prefer him to Sandro, Lamela starting to come out of his shell great finishes. Sorry to all the Dawson lovers, but time to move on, he looked lost.
Thats Entertainment
LOL, ok Frank, I guessed that!! I still have the 91 FA cup semi final on VCR, just no player anymore!!
Dublin Hotspur
Frank, just saying he didn't look impressive at all - lots of individula errors... just ask Villa on Vital Villa ?
Highgatespur
TE, Agree that Capoue did well - good to see... great to see Lamela - confidence shown was brilliant... as for departures - let's seee hope NOT Holtby.
Highgatespur
Sublin ditto have all the finals on VT 1981 - 1991! Conversion to DVD soon...

Dublin,
When Frank said he had it on 'tape',
I just imagined him 'round at 'arry's watching the game.
Sandra in the kitchen making a cup of cha, Harry has probably got a load of VCR's 'round the 'lock-up' (Arthur Daley-stylie)
MrFrancis
That's Entertainment, Capoue played very well and certainly has more goals in him than Sandro will. He is also a better passer of the ball. That said, the way both Sandro and Capoue play, they will accumulate yellow cards and they will suffer injuries. I think both could share the position. Assuming we qualify for Europa League Group Stages (still not a guarantee), there will be enough games for both of them. When Sandro keeps his game simple (as he did withInternacionale) he is a monster and other teams avoid the midde or go over the top. Exactly what you want with a sweeper keeper. I think Harry and then AVB wanted him to get around the pitch far too often. His job, and Capoue's should be limited to protecting the back 4. Get the ball to the players in front of you or out to the FB's and then stop the opposition. COYS
peterballb
HGS, see its been banned again.... Can't see Holtby going, need players like him, will improve under MP no doubt.
Thats Entertainment
We have not heard much from Baldini, he has to be up to something...
MrFrancis
Every defender makes mistakes. What I can say about Vlaar, is that when he plays internationally, with quality around him, he looks great. When every other defender around him is bumbling about, one tends to look worse. When I have wtched Villa, he has been far and away the best and most consistent of their defenders. He knows the league and he is good on the ball. Is he an upgrade on what we saw in the second half yesterday? Absolutely. He can also play right across the back. He is nowhere near as poor as he is being painted. Even if we get Schar or similar, we still need another. Kaboul cannot be counted on. Chiriches seems to be being rumoured awayfrom WHL. We're short. Veljkovic and Fryers are nowhere near where they need to be. If Dawson is to go, we need at least 2 in. COYS
peterballb
Peter,
What about Mehdi Benatia?
My concern with Vlaar is the same with Davis, they are steady-eddies, so are we after them for stability, Baldini, or pressure on the manager not to concede an excessive amount of goals against the big boys??
MrFrancis
Benatia is a year younger, has never played in England and will, I presume, begonefor ACN. I would rather Vlaar. Stbility at CB is a great thing, epeially if it can be coupled with a little bit of dominance in the opposing box on set pieces which explains my desire to prise Schar out of Switzerland. Young kid who plays for his country and who has tallied 8 goals in 43 games for Basel and scored a further 9 in 52 at FC Willian 1900, not to mention 3 goals in 6 games for his national side. Get him now or he will not be affordable in a couple of years. I also like Lang for Grasshoppers. I'd happily buy them both, sell Dawson and get in Vlaar for a couple of years. Kaboul is not getting younger and is an injury concern. Future of Chiriches is uncertain. Vertonghen could be off in a year. We cannot leave this until things happen. Other than Hall (not a certainty) I don't see any others likely to step in from the reserves for the next few years. The cupboard is bare and it needs freshening. COYS
peterballb
Peter,
We have to think like oPortoin this sense and plan ahead, they always have a replacement lined up.
MrFrancis
pb - I tend to agree with you on Vlaar. What's interesting is that he didn't really get his career going until the 09/10 season because before that he was blighted by injuries. He spent the 5 years when he was 20-25 only making 50 appearances for his clubs. He hasn't even played 200 games even at this stage but clearly his club and international form suggest we're seeing the player we would have seen years ago. He could be an absolute steal especially if Villa were to accept a deal involving guys like Dawson / Naughton etc. With all these talented youngsters he could be a superb signing, perhaps even captain material but importantly an assured figure in a notoriously bad back four.

Let's also understand that if Poch had worked with Lovren and isn't bidding for him then that tells it's own story. We know he can afford him as he'll probably spend a chunk on Vlaar and Schneiderlin anyway.

missed the boat big time by not getting caulker, HR knows hes stuff
123spurs
Dublin not sublin - apologies big man !
Highgatespur
We didn't miss the boat on Caulker. The reason he was sold is the reason he was not an option. I presume we got a sell-on fee, so on to the next one. COYS
peterballb
The price for Lovren went from reasonable to beyond market value. As I have said, Southampton are in the middle of a great smoke and mirrors heist. There is no way they can invest that money as players of similar costs will have wage demands beyond what they will pay. If Lovren and Schneiderlin go, they will have brought in over 100M Euros. Insane. They finished in 8th. Not in the CL. COYS

123 Caulker was shipped out for his off field antics concerning the owners grand daughter the reason he was ran out is the reason he wasn't welcomed back. Slurms McKenzie
Is it just me or is Lovern way over rated! He wouldn't be on my wish list at the start of the window now he is verging on a record transfer fee! What is up with that!!!
Slurms McKenzie
slurms-it seems both he and schneirderlin are way overpriced.i dont recall them being that talked about during the season
tarkan mardinCOYS
Almost every player at Southampton is being talked about! Seemingly they have a better auction house that our Dan!

As their players are commanding insane money, does that increase the value of Poch?....I think we got a bargain!
Critical_Spur
tarkan - he's 29 and a centre half. If we can ship out Dawson, Ekotto and now know that Friedel is just bit part player I'm not sure it's a bad thing to have an old head in there amongst the youngsters. I'm not saying spend stupid money and put him on a 5 year deal but surely he's at his prime. I remember us saying the same thing about Distin when he left Pompey at the age of 31. He's signed a 2 year deal and has had 3 or 4 one-year extensions since. Who have we had for those last 5 years? Dawson. Say no more.
muttley
tarkan - Talking about the 12/13 season, I read this on Wikipedia on Schneiderlin "At the end of the season, Schneiderlin was credited for the most tackles, interceptions and highest work rate in the Premier League, establishing himself as one the best holding midfielders in England. He picked up both the Player's Player and Fan's Player of the Year awards at Southampton's end of season awards." It makes you wonder why nobody was talking about him. Perhaps it was Poch's little secret.

Gutted to see Sligo Rovers go out to Rosenberg after going 3-1 ahead on aggregate Rosenberg go through 4-3 after winning 1-3 at the showgrounds :-( The dream is over for another year.

Are you ready for this Carroll is out for four months and won't be facing us on the opening day .....
Highgatespur
Although Holtby looked full of energy and hungry for the ball, there didn't seem to be any discipline to his game. He was all over the place. I'm not sure that he'll get away with that in the PL. Is another loan on the cards?
MAN ON!
Frank - agree with your comments on Capoue. he can be very important for us, was great last night and similarly in first game at palace last season. Filled gaps, broke up play, closed space - exactly what we missed when goon and city midfield s tore us apart. Give him a run and hope he stays clear of injury.
Windlespur
Morning lads, so watched the match last night. What a talent we have in Lamela, really hope he shines this season. The team looked solid in the first half with Kaboul looking sturdy as ever. Hope he stays fit this season, young CB was tidy but showed a few immature challenges. Davies got into great positions but nobody spotted the pass. He also has a head on him to look for a pass before smashing in a cross etc. Naughton seems determined this season and he actually played really well for me. Capoue excellent! Job well done! Mason, tidy moved well, held position but missed a few passes. Lennon, well I actually believe he was excellent for us, clearly given a job to link play, make decisive runs and clean up the loose ball. If only the kid could shoot! Erikson, looked lost at times but first game back. Bobby was a let done for me, missed a lot of one touches and passes. He will find it hard to keep his place this season if he performs like that. The second half was frustrating for us and MP clearly was not impressed. Dawson was his usual useless self and was the cause of both goals conceded, I wonder if we will continue to commit defensive suicide keeping Dawson...
Mix26
Yes, great News to hear Andy Carroll..is out for a fair while. Nice bit of luck.
82spursdebut
Mix 26 , Bobby set up 2 goals for Lamela. To me he seemed part of a front 4 with great interchanging of positions. I think he'll be great for us this season but then we all have our opinions and I dare say favourites and those we think are rubbish players. That's what opinions are. It makes for a great site and good reading.
