Tottenham Hotspur vs. Celtic.

Game four of our pre season and it could be bigged up as facing the champions of Scotland or based on this weeks CL capitulation, it could be our easiest game yet.

Of course, English v Scottish games always have that bit of spice and the Scots, usually up their game for the occasion. However a 4-1 Champions league drubbing against the Poles, Legia Warsaw, would indicate that there is little quality or cohesion in this Celtic side and this shouldn`t be too much trouble for Spurs and will be more about more minutes under the players belts and also a means to develop the teams playing style and ethos.

Though the World Cup and injured players are now back in training, it would appear that only Adebayor, Sandro and Bentaleb, will get to see any action today but whether they will start is another thing. Just one point, is Chiriches still injured or just out of the picture at the moment? This game will be interesting to see how far Pochettino is willing to look at settling in players into a team that is more like a Premiership starting line up at this stage. Without the World Cup players, is there really much point in looking at a settled team, but I can imagine that a few will get more minutes that others, as we build towards next weekends game against Schalke.

You certainly see Lloris and Vertonghen as definite starters in the Prem, but will tonight see Dawson and Kaboul paired together? Neither look like long term solutions in this regime, so will they be used to develop Fryers and the so far impressive Veljkovic while they are with us? So far this pre season there have been some very positive displays, Holtby, Rose and Lamela have all shone of the senior players, whilst I add Ryan Mason to Veljkovic as youngsters who have really impressed. I am also really wanting to see Eriksen and Lamela get more minutes to build an understanding, as they have the potential to be devastating together.

As for Celtic, you assume they will once again walk the SPL, but that means little, when there seems to be more interest in their second tier than the first. After losing so badly in Poland, you imagine that they will still have all eyes on next Wednesdays return leg, even if they look to have no chance, so will we see a team that probably could do without this game and will just go through the motions, this afternoon? I hope not, but either way, I sadly don`t see this as much of a test for Poch`s boys, or is that Bhoys...

Regardless of who plays I suppose it's another opportunity for us to see how Poch will set up and apply his tactics. A good work-out is needed but I wouldn't expect them to over exert themselves. It does depend a lot on how Celtic also approach the match.
MAN ON!
3-0 Spurs!
Geofspurs
Woohoo! My first live Spurs game ever! COYS!!!
Jables
Will we see Vorm and Lloris play or will we still stick with Brad? I'm not even sure who is in the full squad today.
MAN ON!
Jables. You're in Helsinki? Enjoy the match...
MAN ON!
Celtic is a good opponent for our team right now. Hope it will be a combative affair with our team continuing to implement the philosophy of The Poch.
Lady Tottingham
Would love to c a front 3 of Holtby, Ericson and Llama working together behind Soldier/Ade, i think we can rip defences to pieces. Mason/Sandro/Capoue/Nabil to hold, Vorm in goal, no Brad. Can Dier Straits play yet or still subject to a medical?
10iscoach
dont know why celtic are playing this fixture given it is sandwiched between a champions league tie.its quite odd
tarkan mardinCOYS
I've just read that all the world cup players have stayed at home to train apart from Bentaleb who is with the Squad today.
MAN ON!
10iscoach.. Dier is now a fully signed up Spurs player but I don't think he's with the first team squad.
MAN ON!
the game is on bet365 stream
tarkan mardinCOYS
A meaningless game that Celtic really don't want. It'll give Poch a chance to look at some of the returning WC players under match conditions and a chance for the players to get more match minutes under their belts.
spurboy61
Coops, is Townsend gonna run at Daws or something? probably only defender he can beat given the form he has showed preseason. with his shooting ability he may have a chance of beating Friedl, but that may be a little unkind to Brad cos he cant wear his glasses...
10iscoach
Does anyone know what time the game starts? In SA we get terrific football coverage on DSTV. we get to c every premiership game within 2 days, most of them live, every La Liga, 60% live, ditto for Serie A and BundesLiga. Have wathched all WC games live, Every CL and EL match for last 2 years, watched every Spurs game, cup or league live last. Last 2 seasons seen every preseason game live. been lucky. apparently i get to see todays as well, just dont know time.

Any viable links for the game today?

1st team v subs would be a cracking match!
HershamSpur
My money would go on the subs!
MAN ON!
MANON, yes I'm at the game. Quite a lot of Spurs shirts, me including, some Celtic shirts too, even a couple of Chelsea ones wtf! Eriksen and Lamela betterplay the whole second half or I might freak out.
Jables
Man on - agreed!
HershamSpur
My money would be on the subs Hersham. sandro and Bent behind Eeriksen, lamela, lennon and Ade. running at Mason and Cpaoue in front of Daws and Kaboul. would seem fair really.....
10iscoach
wouldn't...seem fair. sorry
10iscoach
It's a mix of youth and experience on and off the bench. Makes sense to me.
MAN ON!
as opposed to Mason and Capoue sitting in front of Holtby, Townsend, kane and Soldado, running at Sandro, Bent, in front of Velk and Fryers. hmmm, subs i think....
10iscoach
Subs are vulnerable at LB ;-)
HershamSpur
Whats the scout on him Coops? any more news on Musacchio, gone a bit quiet on Newsnow, just really fancy him next to Verts, seems solid. But i said same about Chiriches, and it turned out he cudnt head a beachball. back to the game, what will our second team do to the Celtic second team. either of our teams, start or subs, could play PL and avoid relegation comfortably, and thats without new signings or internationals. Spurs 4-1
10iscoach
Jables you gotta post and keep us informed. Only get delayed game tonight unfort.
10iscoach
hope fredericks gets 45mins'.
82spursdebut
Glad to see Mason starting, was quietly impressive in the USA I really liked his passing range. Will be good to see him tested today. Judging by the first half side it could be boring, Townsend dribbling up his own bottom is a guarantee. Hope Holtby puts in another decent shift, seems to have gone quiet on him leaving.
jordtheyid
So, Dier is another on a 5 year deal. Levy now a 5-year man!
Critical_Spur
tx Coops. were u an investigative journalist or something. ur ability to dig up info is incredible. glad i have no dirty laundry, well... the missus may disagree. who killed JFK?
10iscoach
Anyone been watching the match? Any updates?
HershamSpur
I wonder how the players we actually do already have will do today? I predict that one of our forwards will score from open play.... Andros?
MAN ON!
Coops-I expected that, a extra game behind closed doors. Not seen enough of WC players. Thats good news if it happens.

What is all this about, Lascelles, coops do you think we are really in for him and he is on his way?.

Mushacchio - isn't he a bit short to play with Vertonghen?.

Its hard to know what is truth and what is not these days
BigSpursFan
HershamSpur... Kicks off in 15 mins, but I think Geof already knows the result.
MAN ON!
I have a live stream on www.stream2u. they say game starts at 15h30, and their clock shows 15h17. Jables, update please.
10iscoach
I am really starting to worry about our defence, Kaboul and Dawson will simply not cut it, in fact they will get cut up every week and buying an under21 does not really sound like we are making an effort to do something about it.

At the start of pre-season we needed GK cover, LB, CB and CF. So far we only have LB and cover. Could be another long season if we don't do something quickly.
T.H.F.Chris
Cheers guys. Apologies, thought it was a 13.30 KO.

2-0. Kane and Soldado!
MAN ON!
Dawson injured and subbed for Zeki...
MAN ON!
Mason looks the real deal, very very comfortable. Holtby running this game like Hoddle and Gazza used to. if we sell either of them, i sincerely hope we get good money. Rather keep them both.
10iscoach
capoue looks a class above, best player on the pitch so far....andros has had a couple of decent runs and an assist...credit where it's due (but I don't think he'll brush by two players like that in the PL..;))
shedboy2
Good news, Daws off injured. Why Vorm not playing? Farewell to Friedl perhaps
10iscoach
I could run this game!
MAN ON!
With the shift Holtby (1.5) and Capoue(8mil) are putting in, do we need to pay 27 for MS. I know Celtic very poor, but Holtby been doing this entire preseason. Mason costs us nothing and his passing range reminds me of Hudd at his best. and he can move around a bit lol
10iscoach
man on!- not sure they need another linesman...;)
shedboy2
10iscoach. I'm not sure that I'm watching the same match as you... It's just a stroll around in the park. ;-)
MAN ON!
shedboy2... Don't be abusive!
MAN ON!
Soldado scores but still needs 2 goes at it... Go on Roberto!
MAN ON!
I'm gonna set myself up for a lynching here. Soldado to get 15+ this season (no, not penalties). His knowledge of where space is is gonna create many opps, and the way we are setting up to play, i think we have the players around him to tee him up regularly. Holtby is better around the box creatively than any other player we have, senses strikers runs intuitively, alla Defoe last season in EL.
10iscoach
10iscoach... We'll probably need him to be scoring 20+. !5 is not asking for too much.

Mateo Musacchio is not in Villarreal's squad today to face Middlesborough, with suggestions he's close to joining us.
Kong
I know it must have sounded good at the time, but this really isn't a good match for pre season. I'm sure they work harder in training (during their warm up).
In-spurs-ational
This Celtic B team is really Crap. Dunno if they will beat the USA womens team. stroll is about right Man On.
10iscoach
kiss of death there
In-spurs-ational
Fryers own goal!
MAN ON!
And then sheer stupidity, AGAIN. how many soft goals do we concede???? against a terrible side tooo. Oi.......
10iscoach
oh well, at least our players have scored all the goals
In-spurs-ational
10iscoach that was AVB's biggest down fall imo. Holtby and Defoe linked together really well in EL then they never played together in prem, every time Holtby came on Defoe wasnt there. Football is built around partnerships and AVB's continuous chopping and changing created a totally disjointed team... Let's hope you're right and Holtby can link with 20 goal plus a season Soldado (man on's right, we need 20 from him)...
T.H.F.Chris
Holtby!
MAN ON!
That was a weird goal they scored everyone seems to have stopped playing after the first save. Good goal Holtby :P
Rapm
coopsieyid... I'll try it second half. Cheers.
MAN ON!
10iscoach, that's been our main problem. It doesn't matter how many we score (although we've just scored again) if we keep letting in goals like that. I'm sure last season's top four are really worried.
In-spurs-ational
Capoue amongst others has been a breath of fresh air so far this pre season. Surely we can't be thinking of getting rid.
Kong
10iscoach Soldado will only get 15 goals if we get 15 pens. Kane is surely above him in the pecking order now. I really don't get what Soldado offers, even the goal he got lucky should have gone bottom left in the first place. Holtby has been really top draw, Capoue very assured and good passing range. Kane is impressing me more every time I see him play really starting to develop well now.
jordtheyid
not sure about Soldado...I like him and he was sharp in Spain but would like to see him take a few first time shots like he used to...if he continues to be hesitant we'll struggle for goals... that needs to be addressed....We have to plan for Ade going walk a bout...
shedboy2
I think signing Musachio and Lascelles (with loan bad) makes perfect sense. Either Lascelles or Dier will make it and if both do, that's pretty solid in the middle. Depay is still out there too. He would be a pretty good one as well, though I don't really want to see us doing too much other than at CB. COYS
peterballb
Holtby and Capoue for me are our DM pairing in a 4-2-3-1. Holtby is a genuine deep lying box to box playmaker. with him pulling the strings and movement in front of him from Eriksen, Lamela, Ade and Soldado, good luck to defenders. Yeah, ok, i really like the look of Holt ever since he arrived, and he can only get better. reminds me of Iniesta/Modric in his reading of the game, his carrying and distribution. long way to go, but Modric also had to settle at first. And yeah, Ade wide left, Eriksen sentral, Lamela wide right, interchanging behind Soldado.
10iscoach
jordtheyid, I strongly disagree with you when you say Soldado will need 15 pens to score 15 goals. He'll need 16 (bound to miss one eventually)
In-spurs-ational

Marquispurs
have been impressed with Holtby's close control taking the ball at speed...but these games are really difficult to read too much into...
shedboy2
Is Jables the only spectator there?!
Critical_Spur
Shedboy, thats just confidence. I coach high profile tennis players, and its amazing how different and aggressive they play when they are confident. a decent run and chances created and i think we will see a genuine predator in the Linekar mould.
10iscoach
Holtby one of the best players again. He has done enough imo to warrant a place in the squad this season and some game time. I am still not convinced of Soldado, nice touches but there is just something lacking in him for me. Townsend improved performance, Kane doing well, works hard as well as scoring. Capoue very good but his fault for the goal, he stopped working and let the player go passed in, not tackle no nothing, it was as if he was taking a breather. Once he didn't do his job we went under pressure. That will not do in the PL he has to keep focused.

Workrate and movement much better, can see the difference, Poch DNA coming through but Celtic again like USA tour is nothing to get too excited about. We haven't been tested that much yet.

Mason has held his own.

If we can have a few subs I want to see Eriksen, Lamela and Lennon with Ade but not sure what the subs situation is in this friendly.
BigSpursFan
I watched the 1st half on this link. great!

http://footballhd.me/stream27.html
Critical_Spur
In-Spurs-ational haha yes true. I would happily sell Soldado if we canget decent return for the money we paid. Just can't see anyone wanting to buy him.
jordtheyid
Hard to evaluate the first half against second string Celtic players. Still, Townsend looked much better. More pace, control and end product on the left and he tracked back a couple of times to put backside pressure on the ball. Still needs to get his head up though. Just before the Holtby goal Soldado was wide open and there was a channel to put the ball through. Very good half otherwise. Holtby, Capoue and Naughton all looked PL ready. Did Mason even touch the ball? Fryers has shown me nothing to suggest he is a CB. Very poor on the goal. Great save Friedel but again, his reactions to his left are sooooo slow. Davies looked off the pace. Both Soldado and Kane harried well and worked together to create room for each other. Kane's goal was well taken and his cheeky chip might have caught some keepers out. Now for the second half. COYS
peterballb
10iscoah- thats all well and good but in the modern game a Lineker style player is not enough. Players especially strikers need to do more than that.
BigSpursFan
Soldado does work hard off the ball very well, it's when he's on the ball that he needs to step up.
MAN ON!
Peterballb looks like Fryers has no hope of playing any significant game time this season. A loan would be sensible, but signing him in the first place still an odd one for me.
jordtheyid
Some more goals please......
MAN ON!
New team, second half...
MAN ON!
BSF, as mentioned by others, his movement and touches are bettter than Linekars ever were, i am refering to his finishing ability once he regains his confidence, that it will be in the Linekar mould.(I genuinely hope). He creates for other players as we have seen. His understanding of the game and the players around him has improved, so i expect his goal tally up as mentioned before, as well as his assists.
10iscoach
Where's Pele? Or doesn't he watch games? Probably just sits at home ranting about ENIC to himself.
jordtheyid
No worries coops, found them by accident but might imply all spurs goals go up if you google them straight away, don't wait for youtube to take them down next season.
T.H.F.Chris
Nice coincidence, Ade being in Helsinki at the same time as the rest of them.

MAN ON!
anyone notice that Holtby isnt on the field, we have no possession. Just ball chasing

Ade thinks he is there for vappu and is gutted he's bumped into the rest of the squad. Watch out for his brothers cousins uncles yoga guru reading a news story about the Ebola scare thus rendering him unable to play football and crying on TV wearing an Arsenal training shirt.

Slurms that's often the way mate, play them to sell them...or at best to give them a chance to prove their quality and fight for their place - no need to test Verts in Friendlies.

Rose touching the ball more on oppo half than own half. That sounds familiar.

Block D Spurs
Come on lads what was the game like, Formation wise, pressing, work rate, decision making passing? Enquiring minds want to know!
Slurms McKenzie
Can't really tell much from this given Celtic's reserve team playing but the first-half team had loads of energy, lots of movement and slick passing for about 25 minutes and then faded a little as you would expect having put so much effort in. I thought Capoue was outstanding as he has been all pre-season and Holtby was also a driving force, creating and scoring. Second half team had a number of the usual suspects in it and the co-ordination and tempo was not there for about 15 minutes and then they began to play. His excellent free-kick (aided by a ref who knew how far 10 yards actually is as opposed to most walls being about 7 yards away) apart, I thought Eriksen was poor once again. He is giving away possession so frequently and I don't think he has been as good as Holtby. Overall, it was pleasing to see that Poch is making us look like a football team again but we haven't really been tested yet.
Harry-Kari
Dawson is at fault for not being at fault for their goal. He couldn't be bothered to stay fit long enough to score it. Fryers finished it well in his absence.
MAN ON!
OH he stood out of the game, I get you now Man On!!!
Slurms McKenzie
Against that level of opposition, Tottenham look PURE class! Poch has the team playing bootiful football! The big question is... did Celtic allow us to play like it was a training game, or were we really that good? I guess as soon as the season proper kicks off, against Premiership opposition, we will find out...
Pele10
Well Slurms, it was a game of two halves.
MAN ON!
How many of our world cup returnees played? Did Sandro get on the pitch? How did Frericks do as our new covering RB?
Slurms McKenzie
Positives: all 3 strikers scored, 3 of our am scored, and we have a defender who knows where the back of the net is too. Rose has proved he is a good left wing, Capoue and Nabil can man mark, albeit their own CB. No one got injured, and they all got a sun tan. Very Positive, specially Capoue/Holtby in middle of park. Lamela is the real deal, and Eriksen live ball can only improve, his dead ball is well, deadly. Get those CB signed
10iscoach
Bit of both I'd guess Pele, we were way too good for them and they couldn't contain us.
Slurms McKenzie
HI all, did anyone see game, who we're the standouts. Just got in been working, on a Saturday as well!! COYS.
Thats Entertainment
It's a practise match, that's all. The real work will be on the training field. Most of them looked confident and up for it.... I can't make a serious analyses on a match like that. Nobody was great, nobody was really bad and we won 6-1!
MAN ON!
MAN ON!... "Nice coincidence, Ade being in Helsinki at the same time as the rest of them."

It's the flight back home that he usually has problem with!
Critical_Spur
Thanks Man On a fairly succinct summary of the game there, covers the main headline points I can log off now knowing I am informed enough to engage in an discussion o conversation about this game today. You're a credit to vital Spurs, keep up he good work!
Slurms McKenzie
To be fair it still more info then I'll get from Sky or The Sun on this game!!!!
Slurms McKenzie
How bad was Dawson's injury? will h be fit enough to pass a medical?
Slurms McKenzie
Sorry Slurms. Too much cider on a sat afternoon for me to make sense.
MAN ON!
Slurms, it's still work in progress but yes there was a lot of pressing both halves and this did pressure Celtic into giving away possession. Townsend made a typical good run to set up Kane for the first goal, Soldado missed a sitter with his first attempt but was fortunate to get the rebound and he scored from 6 yards. Capoue was everywhere and passed the ball forward effectively. Mostly the ball was moved quickly but there were a few times when Davies was clear for a pass inside the opposition FB and the ball was re-cycled the other way. The problem with this game in terms of assessing our performance was that the opposition offered very little, but scored from one of their two attacks that reached our penalty area. So who knows. We looked good is all I can tell you but how good I don't know.
Harry-Kari
Mad house here, I have to go, I'll just wait for Ciders review when he tells us how his review isn't really a review because he'll review the whole tour after the next game which will turn out to be just a review of the last game of the tour!
Slurms McKenzie
Dawson went off with a foot/ankle injury of sorts. I'm sure he's ok...

Some good work done. Lamelas looking sharp which is a bonus. Holtby was lively. He always is. Defence had nothing to do but the one time we were threatened we conceded. The players look happy and it was a good run out for them.
MAN ON!
There is an old saying, you can only beat what is put in front of you, and Spurs have certainly done that today. It might have been a second string Celtic Team, but to hammer them 6-1 is still a great result, and the manner of it, must build confidence for the new season. Winning is a habit, so let's hope the habit becomes established. The fact that Dawson is injured might be a blessing in disguise, it might convince MP to tie up the deal for the Villarreal guy.

Second half as I saw it, again Capoue looks solid as did Sandro when he came on. Very tidy. Rose looked purposeful and made some great runs and his crossing again looks much improved. Naughton tidy again. Bentaleb looked like a Livermore Hudd combo. Couple of really top passes overshadowed by lots of poor passes and shots that never had a chance all of which just gifts possession. Adebayor. Good penalty, goo free kick earned, some good movement, but no real chemistry out there. He's been out and like Bentaleb, first preseason game so, mulligan. Eriksen, what a free kick. More of that please. Looked a little more involved, though he and Lamela are frustrating if you watch them in isolation. Lamela, deflected goal, but great job creating the space and he put the laces through it. Lennon, like Holtby, and Capoue look ready for the season. Dawson possibly injured and Kaboul hobbled is a worry. Overall, another decent performance with more players looking ready and some obvious chemistry building. Must say I think we look terrible at the back, so here's going that Capoue or Sandro can keep things tidy. Corners, it is nice to see there is a plan. The short ones (which seem what we are going for) seem to have a plan. Great delivery and a wonderful run by Sandro. Very good save or that too would have been a goal. If Eriksen and Holtby can dominate on free kicks, we could finally use our skills to advantage and start taking away the games from teams that park the bus. There is no replacement for quality, and along with Lamela we have a few guys that can deliver.

All in all, I am quite pleased with what I have seen, and we are still without Paulinho, Dembele, Vertonghen and Chadli, so there is more improvement likely. Like the corners and free kicks. Nice to see a plan and execution. Defensively, we are at sixes and sevens so there remains much work to be done. Dier, Musachio and Lascelles seems a great idea, even if some will be for the future. Need Vertonghen's name on the dotted line. I suspect that won't happen until Barcelona finish their quest. If we have Musachio, I would go and get Schar. Kaboul is going to have to be managed. If Dawson remains, it must be as the number 5 CB/injury cover. Vertonghen, Musachio, Kaboul, Schar, Dawson (or sold) and Dier (free pick and can play DCMF) is the way I'd like to see it. COYS

tottingham10. Looked like Kane was just playing off Soldado up front. There was a lot of movement up front from both.
MAN ON!
Some good goals but Celtic would be lucky to stay in the championship on their last two performances. West Ham and QPR is possibly the easiest start you can ask for, you expect both to need some time to get up and running, we just need to make sure we are solid.

4231 ish.
MAN ON!
I think the squad is beginning to shape up now. Still not sure we need Schneiderlin as got lots of options in centre midfield. Hope we bring in another right back as worry if Walker is injured. Need another centre half, which could be Musacchio. Still not sure about any of the forwards and think we need a top draw one. Also would like to see another top wideman brought in. Not sure that if we play 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-2-1 under Poch, that either Lennon or Townsend are good enough or clever enough to play that role. Really looking forward to seeing the real Lamela play this season. Also I would not be too disappointed to see Holtby and Cap playing as the deeper two in the midfield. Any more gossip. What happened with the links to the young Dutch player.
nothappyharry
A lot of interchange up front as in the USA, tottingham.
MAN ON!
I think we're playing a very flexible formation that is a 4231 but with a lot of movement in behind the guy up top. It's not rigid and it's quite free flowing, with the front guys moving fluidly around and off each other.... I think.
MAN ON!
Agree about the flexible formation MAN ON! A lot of movement which is great and certainly doesn't make it easier for the oppo to man mark individuals. A refreshing change! COYS!
Critical_Spur
It's a numbers game (formation). Attack in numbers, defend in numbers, close down in numbers! However, especially in 2nd half, I thought our passing was not crisp and that one or two players struggled with the 1st touch, not much penetration.....a bit like the AVB days. Still, work in progress, many WC returnees getting accustomed to the new style. On the whole pleased with the display. COYS!

Honestly, the way Naughton is playing after his first extended run in the team at RB, i'm not sure if i want him sold. if i'm forced to sell either him or Walker, before this run of games it would have been Naughton ez, but now, i'm not sure. no one has to back track to cover him, he does his job efficiently, no frills, but few flaws either. i know the opposition has been rubbish, but i so far would be comfortable penning him into the defense alongside Kaboul, Verts and Davies, assuming we dont buy anyone else. looks calm, assured, and very clear about what his job is, and has no ambitions to be Bale mark 2, unlike his namesake.
10iscoach
Naughton has always been the better positional player which is why he is much more competent on the left than Walker ever would be. He is a RB, and given a run, I feel Naughton would be class. He plays a lot like Corluka. He'll run up when he has to, can switch play and just takes up good positions. Needs to work on blocking shots though. If you are sticking a leg out, you'd better get the ball. Deflections are not what any keeper wants to see. Friedel really stopped that one brilliantly dragging his trailing leg to make the stop. COYS
peterballb
I am aware Fredricks is the future and looks some player, but lets just say either one of starting full backs gets injured(assuming Walker and Davies) for an extended period, and Fredricks or Rose has to start. i for one would love to have Naughton around cos he can cover either, albeit hopefully not the LB for too long. Personally, i think Naughton has earned the right to stay, Fredricks still has to earn his spurs.

I'm watching the Hammers v Shalke04 on QUEST freeview. Just into the second half and 0-0. Thought Hammers used to play good football too! Reminds me of how defensively they set up. Be an interesting first game. They have another strong midfielder in there now. Certainly puts his foot in. The half time summary was discussing Ravel Morrison. I didn't know he was in custody for attacking 2 women. His foster mother and another women!
longtimespur
Kayoute I think his name is.

Another thing that stands out to me. more than one person has complimented the 'rebirth' of Lennon as an attacking force. conincidentally, he's not playing in front of Walker any more(i know he is changing posi more, but thats not my point). Lennon+Corluka, Lennon attacking threat; Lennon+Walker, Lennon tidy defensive midfielder; Lennon+Naughton, creative attacking midfielder. Walker is a good RB, but at what cost to the players around him. Needs to be reigned in and TOLD in no uncertain terms what his job actually is, cos his performance affects the performance and positioning of the players around him. If he can sort that aspect of his game out, then and then only would i consider selling Naughton, and bringing on Fredricks.

Enjoyed the game but disappointed with Celtic, we could have done with a bit more from them to test us a lot more.

First half thought Holtby made the difference, again. I hope he gets in the squad and gets game time.

Second half started slow, Eriksen is not up to speed, this pressing game is not his style, he needs freedom to find space so it may take him a while to adjust, but nice free kick that will do him a world of good.

Concerned about Walkers fitness but I'm liking Federicks, if we can fit him in the squad I would be happy, like to see more of him, but again he hasn't been tested enough yet.

lamela is class with his touches, if he can continue to do the same in a more physical, competitive PL he will come good this season.

Lennon is embracing his new role and will be threatening again imo, new lease of life for him. Townsend has competiton, he improved today but will have to work hard to get a start.

I would say Capoue has done very well but did go to sleep that led to the goal, he just stopped working and let them through, he needs to make sure that doesn't happen but we also have Sandro that will be interesting, seeing them fight it out.

Fir me Bentaleb PL loan, probably same for Mason although he has done well. We need to see Chadli and Dembele and Paulinho in this system to see how they fair. Overall enjoyable and some good play.
BigSpursFan
coops-listened to radio good listen, interesting, I actually hope the lads from Southampton get their moves even if it is not to us, its not fair that they are expected to stay with a club that have obviously sold their best players. I mean losing one best player is bad enough but how many have they lost, criminal.
BigSpursFan
Keep playing Capoue - the guy covers some serious ground, protects space in front of the back four and makes soooo many interceptions it is scarey. He lacks a little passing composure, but a longer run in the side will help. I love Sandro, but Capoue seems to offer the team so much more balance. COYS
Windlespur
Coops-I agree, Dembele to go. For same reasons you mentioned, but not sure he will fetch as much as the others. Wouldn't bother me if Paulinho went with Dembele, that would cover the cost of getting Scheiderlin.
BigSpursFan
Lascelles didn't play for Forest in the friendly win at home to WBA, not on the bench either.
longtimespur
Coops - i would keep Dembele and get rid of Paulinho. Dembele can control games, is so strong and good on the ball and we play him in too deep a position. Get him alongside Capoue and get him further forward. Paulinho offer us .......No sorry, not coming to me at moment.
Windlespur
Lascelles does he play right or left side in defence

coops-sounds promising, re Musachhio but I don't like this complicated long drawn out transfers.

If we are in for Musacchio, then I am really glad that Pocho is finally sorting out our defence. We had been too soft in defence and conceded too many goals. Will be interesting to see how the team is set up.

Coopsie ... my thoughts on Dembele are the same as yours and others on here. Can't see he brings anything to a high pressing, quick passing and movement game that MP wants us to play. Coops-great work, always a pleasure reading the info you get. I think myself Schneiderlin if he comes will be a last minute signing. I think once the players are back in London we will start to gear about those players being loaned out first then possibly we will get an idea of what Poch wants, any transfers will follow.
BigSpursFan
Love to see you posting again Coops.

Third Party Ownership is a problem when it comes to valuation. Villareal may be willing to sell on for 15M GBP, but Riverplate want closer to 25M GBP. Deal can still get done but then Villareal have to compensate the others which means a deal cannot get done. It's a huge headache because there are three owners and each has a different expectation. Looks a decent player though and I think he';ll do fine though there will be bumps learning a new league etc. COYS
peterballb
Well, that could prove the downfall for Southampton. If Schneiderlin does not wish to be there it will be disruptive. Levy's offers are not likely to go higher as the deadline approaches. They will probably stay where they are. Unless Arsenal or someone else is going to jump in at the last, they could well be left with an unhappy player. or get less than they want Rodriguez was unlikely to pass a medical before the end of August anyway, so he'll be able to go where he wants in January. After that, price will drop as he will be in the last year of his contract. Can't believe the other players left are going to be too happy at Southampton. If they get relegated, it will be a huge mess. COYS
peterballb
I'll buck the trend- I prefer Mousa to Schniederlin - as per the stats on the thread a few days ago...mouse created more chances than MS in less minutes if you extrapolate out his figs they were just as good if not better...he may not catch the eye but he is a beast and we simply lose a lot less with him in the team....I think Mousa and Capoue would dominate just about any other mid...what I don't want to see is the old soft belly Spurs back...looking good going forward but always losing when it matters with a final goal against in the last 10min! If there is an odd man out for MS than unfortunately that would be sandro but only based on the style of play as a single sitting DM he's pretty hard to beat as well....and do we really need MS at that price?....focus on Jay-rod, the left is weak, he can lead the line as well and should be up to speed by the time Ade goes walk a bout...
shedboy2
Cant agree with the sell Dembele view. We have already sold a very talented player in Siggy, who is admittedly maybe too slow, but will score goals all day and put a shift in. Dembele is another who is rarely played in his best position, but is so skilfully and strong. We should not sell too many of the core and unsettle things. Paulinho for me should be the one sold - otherwise i worry about the risk of losing a Dembele or Holtby, for someone i have little faith will ever deliver. Hope he does, but year on and nope....
Windlespur
Shed boy - great post and agree. JABLES - can you please go to every game, lucky omen...

i actually think dembele is more of a pochettino player than paulinho is.an attacking midfielder as opposed to a box to boxer
tarkan mardinCOYS
Paulinho scores goals and is a very different player to the others. He is an option, rather than like for like. Dembele and Schneiderlin, assuming we get him, are exactly the same player. Whether played higher up or further back. Schneiderlin beats a player, draws in a second and dishes the ball out wide or up the gut. Dembele glides past players, runs in to a cup de sac of defenders, stops, plays the ball laterally or back and allows the defenders to get back in to their shape. He is not direct enough. Can he play differently? I don't know. If yes, and he can be more direct, then save the money, get him playing more directly and we are good to go. But from what I have seen, whether at Spurs or at Fulham, that is not his game. He excels on the dribble but lingers on the ball far too long. Schneiderlin, whether at Southampton or in the France side, is far more direct. The ball does more of the work. Neither will score goals or get lots of assists. That is why Paulinho should not be sold. He is a straight up attacking box to box MF'er. The others are not. Paulinho, as I see it, is an impact sub when you are trailing a game. Dembele or Schneiderlin would be far more defensive (i.e. you are protecting a lead). Horses for courses. Soldado or Adebayor (options), Lennon or Lamela (options), Eriksen or Holtby (options), Townsend or Chadli (options), Dembele or Paulinho (options), Capoue or Sandro (the same which is desirable in the middle), Walker or Naughton (options), Rose or Davies (options), Dawson or Kaboul, Vertonghen or whomever. AS I see it, every position that has an attacking element should have options. Everything defensive in nature needs to be like for like. Defence must be consistent. Offence needs different looks. Just my 2 cents. If Schneiderlin comes in, Dembele, for me, would be the one to go, not because he is poor but because he and Schneiderlin are too similar. COYS
peterballb
If Schneiderlin is going to cost more than £20m then I feel that is too much. To leave it last minute is a risk.
Kong
I want to see mousa playing with davies on the lft and ideally a new LW or Chadli ...let's see if he holds onto the ball quite as much....and how do we explain Mousa creating so many more chances?? MS brings a lot to the table but at the prices being discussed we could have got Lukaku...and we will need goals!
shedboy2

Windlespur, I will gladly go to every game if someone will pay. It was a good game although the Celtic youths provided zero competition. Capoue was excellent and a great pass to Holtby goal. Holtby was lively and energetic although I'm not sure his best position is an the right. Kabool was solid, Davies reliable and was often free on the left but he wasnt passed to. Rose is getting better but had quite a few misplaced passes. Eriksen and Lamela will be great partnership for us, Eriksen dropping deeper and Lamela running the channels. Lennon... I may have to eat my words about him. He made great runs and looks like Poch will revive him. Overall a good game, we had almost all the possession but we need to learn to play faster and to pass the ball forward. Therd were too many sideway passes.

I think many of us fans will be eating a lot of humble pie. We already have two camps for Dembele (in/out). The problem is the 'out' group are referring to his past performances. Well, you may have to reconsider if you think about the past performances of Rose, Lennon and Townsend. So far in pre-season, ALL THREE have shown improvement with Rose earning a new 5 yr contract. So, my point is , we haven't seen Dembele under Poch. He too may turn out to be another that adapts readily to Poch's philosophy.....No?! In Poch I trust and so far I have been impressed. COYS!

Cleveland, assuming a genuine question... 6-1 Spurs!
Critical_Spur
Cleveland - 6-1 mate, although it was a very poor second string Celtic side. Good to get another 90 mins nonetheless. Kane, Soldado, Ade, Holtby, Lamela, Eriksen all scored
rahn DMC
Dembele doesn't try in the final third, and gets scared when going past the last man or anywhere near the box.... It is nothing to do with the managers or where they play them, it is all about his own confidence, 'don't worry about losing the ball or missing, give it a go man'.... Got the talent, no guts, not worried if he is moved on.
T.H.F.Chris
Criticil_Spur - Agree with your reasoning on players. I think Pochettino is the type of manager who can get the best out of our players. I would rather see him get the best out of Sandro/Paulinho/Dembele/Capoue than spend £20M+ on Schneiderlin, who is a very good player but we're already stocked in the CM department. Selling 1/2 of the 4 players would also unsettle the squad more...
rahn DMC
Sorry THF Chris, I stand by my point re Dembele. Rose couldn't cross and couldn't defend....now on a new contract and showing good signs under Poch. Townsend the row z man, shoot on sight etc. He is playing a more controlled game. That's why I wouldn't want to decide on Dembele based on previous performance. It's not so much Poch or where he plays him....more a case of HOW he is expected to conform/adapt to the Poch way.
Critical_Spur
rahn DMC, Poch imo has a dilemma wrt Schneiderlin. We don't have much time for the WC returnees to get up to speed with Poch's style (Sandro 1st outing, Dembele yet to feature as per Chadli, Paulinho + Verts too). In Schneiderlin he has someone who is familiar with the needs. I think we'll be OK with the current batch of strikers with AM'ders contributing to the goals. Schniederlin and a Central Defender and we are good to go IMO......oh, that's assuming Verts signs on the dotted line.
Critical_Spur
Critical I wasn't refering directly to your post just generally chipping in. But you do make a potentially very valid point, Poch is renowned for improving players and my big hopes are for Lennon, Lamela and Soldado, they could have a massive impact on our season. (Gd luck reserving judgement on Dembele mate).

whoever we played, I really enjoyed watching the close down on the opposition every time we lost the ball.. that is a good signÖ I felt also that the play was more fluid up frot with RS's movement compared to Ade. I felt Ade slowed the play down massively. was it fitness, or does the play style not suit him? all will be revealed by Christmas!
Dublin Hotspur
I am not sure what to make of Naughton and Fryers at this stage. May be Fryers is merely warming the position until Verts returns and Naughton/Swansea a deal or no deal? Seems Hull are looking at other defender options, so may be Dawson deal is a no goer?.... Hopefully Coops to enlighten us! COYS!

Thanks Critical, 6-1 really, that's nice
Cleveland ARTSPURS
Dublin, I too thought Ade was not entirely in tune with this style.....yet, However, he certainly offers another option. I can't see being a guaranteed starter (or THE man). Another thing I noted was the TEAM ethic in everything we did, including the (muted) goal celebrations. They all wanted to share it. Many a times we were making 20 or 30 consecutive passes, so I guess they all have the right to feel part of the goals. COYS!
Critical_Spur
No worries man, actually hope your post will be the outcome, Dembele could be so good if he was pushed a bit.
T.H.F.Chris
If I could just remind everybody, if we get MS as it seems MP wants, he is one of our 25, somebody has to drop to make way, the same goes at CB, if we get the guy from Villarreal to go with Dier, then we will have to sell at least one or possibly two CBs. It's no good having sentimental ties to certain players, at the end of the day we keep the best 25 in MP's opinion, register them, and they and the free picks play, the rest go, we can't afford to pay players that are not registered to play. What about the likes of Obika, Khumalo, why are they still around on contract, over age with no chance of getting in the 25, they should be gone.
Frank
Re franks post, I'd rather keep dembele and paulinho till christmas then see where they are saints will know whats what too so Morgan might be a runner then. Cb business well move Dawson on and loan chiriches. I really want a LAM signed and to see what chadli can offer!

Critical_Spur - Yeah that's a problem, but one of the issues I see happening with Schneiderlin is that it could end up being such a messy deal that it doesn't get completed till the last hour of deadline day, which would mean he doesn't arrive until 3 games into the season or whatever. Plus it might mean Pochettino has to make tough decisions on players who he hasn't seen train/play yet (Dembele, Paulinho). I just think there's a lot of little hitches to the situation which in all honesty could be avoided by just sticking with what we've got. In any case it could make for an interesting last few weeks of the transfer window.
rahn DMC
Well that sounded a good workout?, were we really good, or were Celtic really poor?, maybe a mixture of both?. Did not get to see the match, busy day helping a mate move home. James ... Sorry. Went out for a while. No, I didnít see the game so Iím trying to make sense of the comments on here! The result doesnít mean much as Celtic are a poor yardstick but it seems we played quite well. At least it was another game for them all to get on the same page!
Geofspurs
Cider spurs - We looked comfortable basically. It was good for us in terms of practicing movement/passing/pressing etc but they were very poor opposition (second string/youth Celtic team). There's some youtube vids of the goals I think, I'll link you in a second. I thought Holtby played well, so did Capoue. They look like they have a good understanding. I didn't think Holtby looked as good on the right as he does in the middle though (makes sense as he's a CM). Lamela looked very tidy again, his ball control is very good, made a strong run before his goal. Honestly thought Townsend was a lot better yesterday, made some good runs and provided a good assist for Kane. Still needs to be quicker in his delivery/decision making in the final 3rd. Kane looked very composed. Naughton had a good game I thought. I thought Ade and Eriksen looked slightly off the pace a bit. But Eriksen's free kick was class! If Schalke bring a strong team next weekend then we're in for a much tougher test.

Seeing that Manchester United beat Real Madrid, Arsenal smashed Benfica, and Liverpool won against AC Milan, it really puts things into perspective about the win against the Celtic reserve team! Who is picking the teams we play pre season? Hopefully Schalke provide a higher level of opposition???

Just read that Man City beat West Ham 2-0. Which begs the question, is it better to play top level opponents pre season, who give you the run around, make you work very hard to close down, chase back, make tackles etc, which ups the level of effort, to increase match fitness, or is it better to have loads of time on the ball against lower level opponents, which give the team the opportunity play nice football, get the passing movements into motion? Looking at the West Ham starting 11 and bench, we clearly have a far superior squad, but will West Ham be closer to a Premier League hi tempo, level of match fitness than us??? We will see...
Pele10
i agree pele.the organisers must have known this game would be sandwiched between a champions league tie.maybe the money was too much for daniel levy to reject.
tarkan mardinCOYS
Does it matter who we play, the main thing is to get fitness and get used to pochettino's ideas. All these pre season games are about the money, you think Man U, man city are in the US for fun, no they are there for the money. If we played Real Madrid yesterday and won what difference would it have made,MIT is still a friendly.
Kong
Having played WHU does that mean City have not had such a good preparation? ;-) - We're supposed to be giving Poch time to build a team and we're already concerned about not getting it right, before the season has even started. Pre-season friendlies, no matter who the opposition is, are no indication of what is to come. I think we're looking good so far, but we haven't really started yet. Up the Spurs!
MAN ON!
Exactly kong.....if we played Real Madrid, pele would just say dannyboy was chasing the money. Friendliest are for game time, mixing partnerships up, fitness. Schalke will be stronger and hearing a behind closed doors friendly also. Pre season results mean nothing aka juande Ramos.

Not sure the argument about being fully fit for the start of the premier league is entirely valid. Ferguson always made the point that the league is a marathon not a sprint, where you are a month in doesn't really count. Juventus used to start the season undercooked, on the basis it was impossible to keep people at 100% for a full season and they wanted to make sure they finished strongly, not sure if they still do that. For us this tme around its really more about a new manager getting to know his players and the players understanding how he wants them to play.
jod
I agree with all 3 of you........
MAN ON!
jod, that's why at the top of the thread I said I didn't want the players to over exert themselves. A team has to pace themselves pre-season too. Do we need to be playing teams that are flying in with every tackle and risking injury etc...? Also, the rest of the PL are in the same position as us in 2 weeks time. The real hard work is done with the training and fitness regime back home.
MAN ON!
how many cb's do we need for two positions?...Daws, Kaboul, Verts, Vlad, Dier+ the kids and capoue as cover....yet for striker-where shockingly we may want to play two sometimes...we have Soldado and Ade + Kane trying to breakthrough ie a kid...and ADE has the ACN....we should be getting someone in now so he's up to speed...we also need to look at our snr strikers age...they will be on the wain in a season or two....succession planning is needed, goals are needed!
shedboy2
Great to see the movement and scoring a hatfull. Now, Mopo'...has the difficult task of selecting the 11/18. Schalke will be the right balanced test. I think the players that haven't appeared, so far...should be playing part game Vs Cambridge...Tuesday. Then be considered for the Schalke game. At the moment....I couldn't pick the eleven to start the Wetspam game.
82spursdebut
Yes, totally agree Shedboy2 ;-)
82spursdebut
as for pre- season I think it's better to play lower opposition...it gives the boys chance to work the new partnerships and gain confidence from winning, it instils belief that the managers idea's are working and they still get the fitness up...but that'll all start to crumple if we go out and lose 3-0 to west ham on the opening day! there is a lot of pressure on that match after last season!
shedboy2
Doesn't take much for ..one to be injured (long term)...one suspended and one off form.
82spursdebut
82- yep if one is injured during ACN then we can't play two recognised ST at the same time! talk about bare bones and the pressure on Kane...he needs easing in this season...not to carry the burden of responsibility....
shedboy2
Shedboy2...Hence the Schalke game....stiffer opposition. Needs to be played like a top game. If, it goes pear shaped...then that may be the shake up the players would need after these simple games....and give them a reminder of what is required for the Wetspam game.
82spursdebut
I think Kane...could become pivotal...like yesterday, shots from 2 goalscorers, from inside the box...plus someone breaking into the box in the fist half. 2nd half....although supposedly stronger on paper.....the balance wasn't there.....i.e..only one striker in the box and only on occaisions (Addy)....then just relying on shots from outside the box. That 2nd goalscorer role....is pivotal to our success, this season. I'm not sure...Eriksen, Chadli, Lamela....can fully do the that role. Whilst Kane...seems capable...ad could well score in the 20's.
82spursdebut
Shedboy, Re the CB's, Agree that we have 4 senior (experienced) CB's in Kab, Daws, Chiri, Verts. I am not convinced Daws has passed the Poch MoT and equally, not convinced Kaboul has passed his own MoT! If the argument is that Capoue is a cover, then same can be said for the CF's, i.e., Lamela, Chadli can cover? I think our goals this season will come from all over the shop. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Even though Celtic were a pushover yesterday it was obvious to me that the players were up for it and prepared to work for the result. I saw players chasing the ball down to prevent giving it up for throw ins etc., and when they were not even under pressure. They will do the same against Schalke and hopefully it's WHU that is feeling the pressure when we play them. Confidence is key and that was lacking for most of last season. Yesterday would have helped in that respect at least.
MAN ON!
The clues....are there.....look at the 3 goals scored in the first half.....compared to the 3 in the 2nd half. Well made in the 1st half....but lucky ish...in the 2nd half (Eriksens ...the exception...Great goal.....but no better than how the 3 were made in the first half.....................far easier to score, from inside the box).
82spursdebut
Yes, things moving in the right direction....but now it's finding the balance within the starting 11...and replacement 11.
82spursdebut
I will also add....that although I thought Adebayor had a good half. If he is our No.1....striker....IF........then I'm slightly feared. I would like to see a strong tall confident, good in the air....2 footed striker. Adebayor.....had a great chance to shoot on his left foot, inside the box...but chose...not to...and work the ball out and away from the goal. This is not a good sign of a Top goalscorer. We can forgive...at the min' for obvious reasons. But....I'd be searching for a top goalscorer....in the mean time.
82spursdebut
Just reading through Sky's paper talk:

Sun - Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is lining up a surprise swoop for Samuel Eto'o, according to the Cameroon striker's agent.

Mirror - Tottenham plan to go back to Southampton with an increased bid for Morgan Schneiderlin and step up their pursuit of Swansea's Wilfried Bony.

And...apparently westham are after Crouch!!!
Critical_Spur
Warm up games are no indicator of what's in store, we all know that, would Man U have beaten Real Madrid 3-1 yesterday if anything was riding on the result, probably not.

Well, since Cider didn't even see the match, not any highlights available, I guess no chance of a post-match report article! Although if he wrote a fictitious one, getting the scorers' names right, he probably wouldn't be far off!

Over to Coopsieyid for the nonsense!
Critical_Spur
I'm hoping that Poch is preparing a starting 22 or more and a system fit for rotation and integration of all players in the squad. Of course there are individuals who are first choice but, every single one of them needs to be ready to step up and fit in, within a team strategy and spirit. I think this will be/should be what MP is trying to install.
MAN ON!
What's important is we look like we have a plan now and that when we lose possession, we want it back quickly, things are looking up! COYS!!

tarkan mardinCOYS
That will take time and new players will be needed but it can't be achieved over night. Players have to believe in MP and show patience themselves. There will be good days and bad days but I'm liking the early signs and think we can improve a lot on last season. We'll see.
MAN ON!
TE I agree, was just about to write the same, friendlies mean nothing... But PELE poses a VERY good question, which is better... high tempo friendlies or friendlies which give you a chance to work on team structure i.e. with lots of time on the ball.

You could argue for being able to carry out either function to a certain extent in training and not the other. But I think in the case of new management learning the team structure is far more important. It should also build confidence even if against rubbish opposition, the alternative of losing to City and getting worn out certainly wouldn't be a morale booster.
T.H.F.Chris
Although...happy ish...with William Bony, for he generally shoots on sight. Sometimes, he hides away and cannot be found / seen easily. I'd prefer...a taller cowboy....like Clint Eastwood...or John Wayne...perhaps even Henry Fonda......all 6ft plus...wouldn't wanna mess with them.
82spursdebut
I think we will get in a striker but also believe we should be adding to what we have and not selling either Ade, Soldado or kane.
MAN ON!
Didn't see the game. I noticed though that this lot didn't feature - Lloris, Worm, Walker, Chiriches, Vertonghen, Ekotto, Dembele, Paulinho, Chadli. That's quite an impressive list of players. 7 of the 8 WC stars (including Worm) with only Benteleb involved. Walker still out, presumedly still trying to get fit after his long layoff. Chiriches not yet fit after his back injury.

Does anyone know what was the extent of Dawson's injury?

I read, on here.......that Dawson was fine.

Cheers rahn...Movement looked good again in the final 3rd, Holtby appeared busy, and Capoue appeared to make some good passes from further back. As some have said Schalke should pose a good threat, Champions league regulars and a few good players to boot (not literally, but you get my point). Very impressed with the movement in the final 3rd as stated, looks a million miles away from what was witnessed all too often last season. The thought of a solid MF and a tighter defence leaves me thinking an exciting season ahead is fast approaching. 3 points at W.Ham would be just the tonic to set the tone for the season ahead. COYS!.

Critical_Spur- no the argument isn't that capoue is cover...the argument is we have 7 cb's for two positions BEFORE we use Capoue...we only have 3 strikers for potentially two positions with one of those 3 having ACN- it's simply not enough....and that's without debating who is or isn't good enough...
shedboy2
Liverpool..linked to Balotelli...£14m...laughable..
82spursdebut
Man On - I was panicking there for a bit, in the event he was injured beyond Aug 31. Saying that, if we do get more spine players in Musacchio, Schneiderlin and Rodriguez then I can't figure out how Poch will be able get his squad down to 25 and name 8 homegrowns. He's also got free picks in Dier, Veljkovic, Bentaleb and Kane on top of that. At least Brad will be able to get an 8 month rest when the season starts. He's looking a little overworked in pre-season !!!
muttley
Tarkan, Under Levy's business model, spending 70 mill would require selling approx. the same!
Critical_Spur
shedboy - it's a great point. Togo have ACN qualifiers in Sep, Oct and Nov and then the tournament is mid Jan to mid Feb. That's a lot of hassle for our squad with Adebayor keep clearing off, assuming he plays in those games. Jay Rodriguez would be a great buy to compensate for that. We can get our normal 10 great games off Adebayor before he goes off the boil at which time Jay Rod will be fully fit and ready to go.
muttley
Far easier...to drop Capoue...into Central defence.......French connection....Lloris, Capoue, Kaboul......or Lloris, Capoue, Vertonghen......or....Lloris, Kaboul,Capoue,Vertonghen.
82spursdebut
Shedboy, thanks. Bit I get the impression that Poch will be employing a single out and out striker with 3 AM'rs providing goal threat. There may be the odd game (or when chasing) when two will be needed. I rate Kane and am convinced he is ready and deserves his place. Of course I would welcome A.N.other, but wouldn't be against non-recruitment in that area. Then there is always the January window!
Critical_Spur
Yes, no doubt he will.....but...those 3 Am's.....need to be balanced correctly with the striker...and all provide good threat / assists and goals. More so than the opposition.
82spursdebut
Poch has been known to put two up front during the course of a game but that doesn't necessarily have to be another out and out striker, given the movement and flexibility that he employs up front. In other words it's not a traditional 442.
MAN ON!
He kind of did it with Kane and Soldado playing off each other yesterday.
MAN ON!
You are right Man on.....it could be 4,4,1,1......Bottom line is...getting goalscorers...into the main threat area..(18 yard box )....more.
82spursdebut
Or whatever he does behind the front two, it does seem quite flexible and not a rigid formation...... IMO.
MAN ON!
Agreed again......the better half....was the first half.....but that was yesterday..vs a poor side.

Critical_Spur
Slurms, just catching up on the thread. re the match, one thing that stood out for me, was when we lose possession, we swarm the opposition player with 2 or 3 of our own, immediately. we either get possession back, or they tend to make a mistake and put the ball out of play! V nice to see this developing.

also, I felt Soldados movement was far more fluid than ade's, and the pace of the game was much more up tempo in the first half. Lennon was drifting everywhere, hes like a new player! Rose, usual poor passing and getting back an issue! I honestly think his contract is on the same money as he is on, and we will try to sell him next window, rather than let him go for free next year!
Dublin Hotspur
Mornin Coops!
Dublin Hotspur
Yes, that is a V' good answer Coopsieyid.............Obika scored yesterday. BUT....Imo..i'd rather...cash a few in and buy someone who i believe can score 15 or more goals per season.

Teddy, what a player!
Thats Entertainment
I agree with coopsie ... I canít see any concerns with our strike force; Soldado, Kane, and Ade, backed up by a talented and more focussed midfield should present no problems in terms of goals for. But we still need another CB to reduce the goals against, imo.
Geofspurs
Don't forget that Ade is a bit behind the others in fitness.
Geofspurs
Oh and I am 99% sure Brad saved their goal, and in fact it wasn't a goal!
Dublin Hotspur
I still believe Spurs will sell a senior player or two before Aug 31. So far this summer we have made money for Caulker (sell on fee), Livermore and Siggy which has covered Worm, Davies and Dier. If we are after expensive signings such as Musacchio, MS and Jay Rod then I simply can't see Levy buying them all without recouping some money from the existing squad. We can build arguments for any of Sandro, Dembele, Capoue, Paulinho etc to stay but if Poch wants those players then any of them could go. Same with Dawson, Chiriches, Naughton etc. Levy simply hasn't got a track record of net spending of £50m. It's always displacement.
muttley
Main thing / bottom line is.....we only have to beat the opposition !?
82spursdebut

Perfect end to the transfer window for me is: Ins: Vorm (3m) Musacchio (17m) Davies (10m) Dier (4m) Schneiderlein (20m) Rodriguez (15m) Bony (20m) TOTAL: 89m Outs: Dawson (4m) Chiriches (7m) Sandro (13m) Livermore (8m) Sigurdsson (10m) Falque (4m) Soldado (13m) TOTAL: 59m Net spend: 30m Starting lineup would be: Lloris Walker Musacchio Vertonghen Davies Schneiderlein Dembele Eriksen Lamela Rodriguez Bony Backup team: Vorm Naughton Dier Kaboul Rose Capoue Paulinho Holtby Lennon Townsend Adebayor Then you have the free picks (Kane, bentaleb etc) plus friedel (more coaching role) and chadli. I know that's a lot of movement (last season proves the difficulty with that) but most of the players are premier league tested so it's different. That said, I really wouldn't be sad to just see musacchio join.
Nicholas Fixter
Yeah, the unflushable, flushed, lmfao!

Perfect for me...would be....Khumalo,Ekotto,Walker,Carroll,Obika...OUT. Balotelli ..IN.
82spursdebut
My aspirational squad would be Lloris, Worm, Friedel, Walker, Richards (loan), Kaboul, Vertonghen, Chiriches, Musacchio, Davies, Rose, Sandro, Schneiderlin, Capoue, Dembele, Paulinho, Eriksen, Holtby, Lennon, Townsend, Chadli, Lamela, Adebayor, Soldado, Rodriguez with free picks of Dier, Veljkovic, Bentaleb and Kane. It would mean selling Naughton, Dawson, Ekotto and loans for Fryers, Fredericks, Mason, Carroll and Ceballos as they're all over 21. Part of me thinks that there is no way Poch can keep all those players happy though.
muttley
....and of course Khumalo and Obika sold as well.
muttley
Coopsie, if your request has fallen on deaf ears, my suggestion would be to preach to the masses and NOT an individual!, i.e., Masses need to ignore Pele10's off topic repetitions. Shame really, as he does occasionally contribute constructively and on-topic, but his keyboard spasm gets the better of him!...bless!

Anyway, in the meantime, we'd best treat every article as a nonsense article until the WHU game. COYS!
Critical_Spur
Done your HOmework there Muttley......might need to find that £50mill'.....like the word "Aspirational". Think we would win a trophy with that squad.
82spursdebut
82spurs - as I said above, can't see Levy sanctioning it without a sacrifice or two. That would mean actual net spending for a change. As for Mario Nickatelly, that's a decent idea. I'd take him over Adebayor any day of the week. So £60m net spending it is then :-)
muttley
Muttley, your aspirational squad is close to mine. I am not too worried about keeping them all happy. Of what have seen so far, the team is developing as a TEAM and not individuals. I think they are all buying in to Poch's ideas (I know, no choice!) and with number of games in all comps, everyone should get a fair representation. Then of course the injuries and loss of form, add to that the tactical needs of each game.
Critical_Spur
I just don't want Adebayor...or anyone being able to say or think...."I'm the best striker at the club".
82spursdebut
Yes, Teamwork....can beat the opposition. Mopo...made one interesting decision yesterday....i.e...Fryers....rather than Veljkovik.

Critical_Spur
coopsie.. Agree .... i also said before.. Kane is like teddy.. same type of movement and play. Just needs more experience...
Block D Spurs
LOL.......think he is adequate....bit like Naughton. Well...like I've said....I'd prefer..Mopo....to try 3,5,2...with 3 cd's...and 2 wingbacks....and let....Davies,Rose,Townsend....fight for the Left wingback role. I think...Rose..could be the better left wingback.
82spursdebut
coops - must admit, the way he took his goal yesterday was teddyesque. Time slowed down as he found space, calmly took his time to pick his spot in the top left. It's these little things that get you excited about players. His advantage is that he's a free pick for another season.

Critical, that is also why I can see Levy selling a couple of senior players in the midfield area. We could have 25 plus 4 genuinely good free picks in Dier, Veljkovic, Bentaleb and Kane or we could take it down by 2 or 3 and have a tighter knit squad that is equally competitive. Of course the big unknown with Spurs is how many injuries we will have as we seem to carry 5 or 6 at all times.
muttley
I know it's been suggested before, but simply putting a poster's name at the start (rather than at the end) of a post would probably help matters no end. Then, if you don't like any particular poster, you can easily ignore the comment.
In-spurs-ational
On yesterday's game, well, we won (which is obviously much better than losing). However, I don't want to get too carried away. I could be wrong, be wasn't the infamous 2 points from 8 games season preceded by a very good (looking at the results) pre season. Pluses from the game, we looked liked we had a plan. Negatives, our defense still gives me nightmares.
In-spurs-ational
coopsieyid, was it actually Rod jogging, or did he have someone to jog for him (you know how these footballers are like)
In-spurs-ational
Coopsieyid, thanks for your earlier reply (novel) re the nonsense thread. Recognise where you are coming from and wished others would adapt on the for us as players are doing under Poch! Look forward to your finds.

Muttley, we have our fair share of crocked and nearly-crocked men. Kaboul....is he on a knife edge with his injuries?, Chiriches....something to do with PL physicality?, Sandro.....just unlucky?, Dembele.....a recurring issue. Lamela ....hopefully was one-off last season. The latter four are in the critical areas of our team. I think Daws will be kept as a back-up.

coops...How's it goin' mate?, all good with yourself and family?. Last I read was that Konoplyanka was a possible but it was a hard deal to do?, have you heard anything lately about what the score with him is?. Depay might be good as the LW role, but at present he does seem to shoot on sight alot of the time from quite a long way out, we already have one of those in Townsend LOL!.

Konoplyanka aside, one whom I thought we should have snapped up has ended up at Southampton funnily enough. Dusan Tadic, he has plenty of goals and loads of assists and can play right across the 3. Could all be immaterial in any case. I still think Chadli could shine if played a little narrower as opposed to out and out winger. Quite good at making a yard for himself, and in his defence, his shooting pre Spurs was pretty accurate, Left or Right, they were usually on target, he is also actually quite quick over the first 5-10 yards. Interesting times to be a Spurs fan.

longtime...I did not get to see the match, but have seen the goals. I thought Kane took his well, as you say he moves well and looks a great prospect. Said on another thread how it amazes me how some write a young prospect off before his career has even begun. The way I see it he is doing everything the right way, never mentioned in relation to partying hard as many youngsters before him have, when called upon has come in and done all that has been asked of him, scoring a few along the way also, seems a nice grounded young lad, just a decent sort. Really hope he makes it at Spurs, IMO, he's certainly coming along nicely.

cider spurs, Kane, for me has all the tools to become a very consistent striker. He works hard, has great movement, goes to those soft places, is not scared of contact, is strong on the ball and seems hungry. He just needs to be played. I'd be annoyed if Vlad leaves. I still think he can do the job of both Dawson and Naughton in the squad and could even push for that 1st team place. He was about the only defender I saw last season actually using his brain to defend. I like the link to Musacchio and wonder whether Poch is still monitoring Moreno. He didn't even consider Lovren so he clearly rates those 2 as better.

One is not amused. I spent all last summer banging the Vlad drum, Part of the reason was the way he nullified Chelsea in a Champions League fixture and his silky way of bringing the ball out from the back. If he has gone to Chavland, after the Willian fiasco last summer and soured relations over the past few years then we have again made ourselves look like fools.

Of course only a rumour, but there was his agent not too long ago saying we were a stepping stone and Chelsea were mentioned. Vlad is an excellent defender, and not too long ago there was a good article as to why he should not be sold.

Dublin Hotspur, I wasn't sure if Friedel had saved it or not. What seemed certain is that the official standing right on the line did not give it. It was the ref who gave the goal. Friedel didn't have a cow, so I presumed it was in or close to in. Why they don't just use the goal line technology and be sure of it, I'll never know. It seems they'd rather keep going forward with poor decisions than give it the appearance of fairness. COYS

The issue, as I see it with Vlad, is that he is really poor in the airy. I don't know how, as a CB in England, you survive and thrive without being dominant in the air. What I don't get is why don't we just make him a RB. He has great ball skills. He can provide useful crosses, score the odd goal and cover at CB when needed. Far more versatile than a player like Walker will ever be. COYS
peterballb
Cider, I agree about Vlad. Poor guy arrived at Spurs at the worst moment possible, with two managers and all the upheaval that goes with it. Never got a chance (long enough run) and never played alongside a competent backline. I am still hopeful that Pochettino will bring him in to fold. Last I read was he was injured (as has been a lot of season). Hope it is media talk and NOT Levy/Poch talk. Unlike Dawson who doesn't want to leave Spurs, I think if Chelsea came calling Vlad will have used us as the stepping stone. Whatever happens, hope Poch is able to build a solid defence before the 1st match as everything else is falling in to place. COYS!

One last thing before I get in to the garden, I think Bony would be a huge mistake. He is very uni-dimensional. Benteke, as an example, is miles better. Not only does he score, he tackles more than most, intercepts more than most, creates chances more than most. We need a complete player. The beauty of players like Henry and Drogba is that they do things all over the pitch that make the team better. Bony does not. Be a lot of money for "just a striker". I would not look in that direction at all. Rodriguez (even if in 5 months) or Benteke are the ones I'd be looking at. COYS
peterballb
I am surprised that the players' agents fall for this shared ownership of players. Makes everyone's life very difficult and potentially screw up the player's career progression. I guess it is more to the with the financial status of the original club. But this sort of thing is rife in South America. If I remember correctly, there were similar issues surrounding Leandro. So every time Mussachio farts he has to get permission from 3 parties. Ludicrous!
Critical_Spur
On transfers, I still expect we will, more or less, break even. Livermore, Sigurdsson, Falque have already paid for Dier, Davies and Vorm, with a little left over. Modric CL bonus, Gio sell on, Caulker sell on, 10M surplus from last season which includes Defoe. As I see it, we remain ahead. There is no way we bring in Schneiderlin and don't move someone who will bring back almost the same amount. Musacchio would mean at least one of Dawson or Chiriches (if not both) are out the door. BAE still needs to go and I have to believe that one or two others will prove to be surplus. IMO, once you get to a full sized squad with quality top to bottom, there will rarely be need for a net spend. Use the monies we have on salary. Pay players well. Keep them around. When you have to sell because a player wants out and one of the big fish want them, set your "ridiculous valuation" get it and move on. Look more and more to players like Lazar and Yahaya. On a similar note, I really hope we do the business on Lascelles with a loan back. Got to believe that at least two of Dier, Lascelles, Hall and Veljkovic will pan out which is what we need behind Vertonghen and potentially Musacchio. COYS
peterballb
Coops, Vlad won't be gone! he is stronger than Kabs and dawson, and the kids! also, We will never sell to the chavs, like they will never sell to us! who started that rumour? its prob on my TL, but I'll have a look. its love hate, I am a vlad lover, some don't like him. ats the same with Ade, Robbie, Chadli etcÖ think hes perfect for Poch myself!
oh, and all promising on the Musacchio front! good hooring fella!
Dublin Hotspur
on the other hand, I suppose it really is supply and demand! if no demand for dawson or Kaboul, we need to sell higher up the food chain to get the best! why we held on to rose imo. no demand for him, even from sunderland!
Dublin Hotspur
Musacchio... Am I right in thinking he plays on the right and isn't Dier also a right CB? For those that dig stats, Musachhio's are not significantly better than Dawson's for last season, with both playing the same amount of matches I think. He is 7 years younger than Michael but, with zero PL experience... What's wrong with Vlad anyway? I'm not making any judgement on the player because like most of us, I presume, I've not knowingly seen the guy play.
MAN ON!
Peter, tottingham. I really don't think we will be adding a forward this window. I reckon the defence is priority. we have 2 top forwards, and a good up and comer. Chads and Lamela can cover if by freak of bad luck we lost all 3 of the ones we have!

Pele is not lacking in respect as far as I can see. He is just someone who is determined to make his point, as are numerous posters on here that repeat the same stuff over and over. coops...The missus. Still no hearing in her right ear, dizzy spells aplenty, collarbone still very sore. Think they've got to do some sort of vertigo test down at the physio. Still has to take the Morphine, liquid and slow release tablet form. Doctors won't let her come of it as of yet, she wants back to work, no joy there as of yet either, medical staff say no. I want to get back into action, I've to look for a job, having had to leave last one to care for my missus, they would not let me take the time off, so of course I did the honorable thing and told them to Feck right off. Absolutely no offence Coopsie but I was hoping to read some more stuff about yesterdays match and it's been over run with this one CB that has yet to walk through the door. It was an inconvenience but nothing to get upset about.

tottingham10, I am all for 'comments on footy related matters' and 'opinions'...that is exactly what a forum is about. However, NOT for repetitive diatribe...again, again and again. Look, IMO, Pele10 has contributed on-topic many times and is refreshing to read.

Just a couple of analogies... if my TV continually shows repeats of the same movies and programs, I'd either stop watching TV or demand my money back from Sky. Equally if my wife fed me beans on toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner...day after day, I'd either throttle her or tell her to stay outta kitchen and cook for myself!!
Critical_Spur
MAN ON! As you know, MOST people shrugged this match off as being a 'nothing' match, against a 2nd rate kids from Celtic. It was inevitably a short-lived one-sided debate about our six goals and the odd brilliant moment. No doubt the next game (behind closed doors) will have us discussing nothing!!...unless Jables sneaks in without being noticed! Agree though that a new thread should have been started....rest is history! COYS!

Cider, interesting to hear about your missus and the ear problem. I lost all my hearing in my right ear about 12 years ago. Started with dizzy spells and then lost all hearing. Seen doctors, consultants etc, all bloody useless. Eventually had an MRI and told that due to a virus, the optic nerve has been damage and cannot carry signal to the brain. The inner ear itself is ok, but because the nerve is permanently damaged, I can't hear at all on the right. I originally had a diagnosis of labyrinthitis. Hope all goes well, as if it is caught early enough it is treatable, sadly though most doctors dont know much about it.
vicspur
coops...Am I right in thinking this Tadier is a loan?. I too have been following the Saintsweb, admittedly only since the Schneiderlin link. I have read a few posts from fans who feel that the lass in charge is basically asset stripping prior to selling. You link above somewhat gives the same thought.

Have to admit, there are numerous posts over their stating how important MS is to the team and that he is their best player, lots also stating that if anybody deserved a move it was MS and that they believe the reluctance to sell him is bullstit!. Hope we get him.
cider spurs
vicspur...Thanks for the post mate. I don't hold much hope for the missus' hearing returning. She had a fall and fractured her skull, temporal fracture(base of skull). Basically the bone sliced through her inner ear and damaged all the important bits, she was told that this injury often results in partial facial paralysis, this did not happen, so on that score lucky. Been told some hearing may return but unlikely, testing again in September. She did hear a muffled sound and a little noise the other day, nothing since.

Sorry to all those miffed with myself going off topic, to keep it on track and stop me getting moaned at. Hope we sign MS and Dier was an excellent deal IMO.
cider spurs
So Vlad could be gone, meh, I can't get worked up about a kid who couldn't really defend and was knocked off the ball all to easily, silky footballing skills are one thing but stopping the other teams is the main function of the CB. Plus with injuries, it was more of a case of Vlad we hardly knew ye! I also think Kaboul had a better injury record then Vlad last year! I'd happily see him go to be replaced by a proper CB.
Slurms McKenzie
Dublin, cheers for the info, like you I am late in catching up! Good to read about the more high tempo and effective defense fron the front back. Doesn't matter who the opposition are the system has to be practiced and learned. Coopsie ... VS still appears to be the most supported site on the system and thatís because many people enjoy the articles and discussions ... whether they agree with them or not. I guess there will always be a turnover, for various reasons, of people using it ... and you canít please everyone all the time. I have to say that Peleís comments arenít an issue for me... I just donít read his posts. Thatís a shame because he can make a lot of valid points. There are others I tend not to read as well. We all make that choice and itís not difficult to do. Most of us repeat our opinions again and again so why not Pele. As far as I can see he has done nothing that warrants being banned ... unless free speech is politically incorrect on VS. I cannot remember him directing any abuse to fellow posters on VS. Keeping on topic is not always as easy as it might seem. Football discussions can travel in many directions and they are all usually quite relevant and can add spice to the article. This is not deliberately being disrespectful to the author ... but more a compliment, imo, because it is adding to the discussion, which is what the author wants.
Geofspurs
123spurs, I do not mean to throw cold water on the fire. We have hired a developer of young talent. Even that is questionable, though there is no doubt that the prices coming for Lallana, et al suggest something. He has won nothing. Has had a mixed bag, in fact, if you look at the only two sides he has coached. AS I would much prefer to see players play in position, I'd rather we, at the very least, commence with development. Let's see where it goes. Just as Kane could be a top notch striker, so could Pochettino be a top notch coach. Let's develop our players and then sell them on, once developed, if they no longer suit our needs. Chadli and Townsend are in apposition where Pritchard and McEvoy are pushing from below. I vote we see where it all goes. Other than Soldado, none of the players we bought last season have reached their prime. Let's get them there. If they all achieve their potential, we have a squad that could well achieve greatness. COYS
peterballb
Coopsie's point, on the surface is simple, don't hijack threads with unrelated rantings and ravings. The issue is that threads tend to evolve thus making a simple issue more complex. I do, straight up, agree that in Coopsie's case, this is different. People used to complain, ad nauseum, that transfer rumours and discussions, would wind up hijacking other threads. Some on here, wanted absolutely nothing to do with it. It became an issue. Solution, Coopsie started to post his "nonsense threads" as separate entities for those who were interested. Personally, I love those threads. Grain of salt and all, but, what are Spurs fans, if not ones who live in hope. I am also loathe to limit free speech and to support censorship. It is a conundrum. I will neither tell Coopsie what to do any more than I will ask other to not post. It would be glorious if people could appreciate the "nonsense threads" for what they were intended, but that is out of my control. If Coopsie engages anthem again, I will, with interest, be entertained. If not, I will be entertained with their postings in other threads. It's all Spurs. I love it all. COYS
peterballb
Ditto that, peter.
Geofspurs
I see above that MAN ON! alluded to what I was saying. "Nonsense"info tends to have a life of it's own. As a matter of course it just spreads and spreads, taking over whatever the actual thread was. That can be very frustrating for the person who created the thread and those that want to follow that subject matter. It would be so nice if we could just all get along and try to stay as close to the topic as possible. If your subject is not covered, it's as simple as creating a thread that covers whatever subject you desire. COYS
peterballb
coops- a belated response...very difficult to judge what Poch has got out of players yet...it's pre-season. As for strikers yes I'm concerned...we don't have the numbers nor the consistency at a level needed to mount any type of challenge....and as for relying on andros, Lennon or Obika for goals Poch is a coach not a magician! We need a goal scorer preferably one that can offer a bit more than just scoring but score he must....
shedboy2
I'd like to congratulate Coopsie for turning Pele10 into a talking point. As someone who submits the odd article (and even occasionally has them published LOL!) it can be frustrating when the content is hijacked but usually it is somebody over-reacting to Pele10's comment. The best way to limit scrolling is to have more threads started so get writing folks. Your contribution is immense Coopsie but it's not all about you mate.
Love totty
My point above wasn't about the thread changing subject, it was that Coopsie was complaining about one poster taking over a thread with their own agenda, whilst in the process of doing exactly that, himself. Also, there are posters from all over the world that come on here and so, their contribution to the subject will not coincide with everyone else's, in the same time frame. I have nothing against Coopsie or indeed, a change of subject, as most of us do it. I just can't see why certain posters are made to feel unwanted just because they are not agreeable to others. How can we complain about the content of peoples posts, who are not abusive and then go on to abuse them, in no uncertain terms... I've only written a couple of articles myself and it was for the purpose of encouraging debate, that's all. I did not and would not expect members to follow instructions on how they should or should not then conduct themselves, within their responses. (No offence was intended in the writing of this).
MAN ON!
I think any post has a lifespan with regard to comments. After 100 or so it is natural for the topic to change. The good thing about VS is the comments section actually allows people to stray off topic whilst we await the next article, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think Coopsies understands this as inevitable, his point is actually that we don't want to keep having the focus constantly diverted towards ENIC as it just becomes repetitive and a bit boring. I'm going to submit an ENIC article essentially summarising Pele's points and the counter argument. Then we can actually discuss it propely and hopefully put it to bed for a little while at least.
jordtheyid
Man On, I was just thinking thge same thing, saw the post with 500+ comments, I thought wicked let me read about the Celtic game, and most of it is just nonsense transfer specultation, at least with a nonsense thread it's all put in one place!!!!!!

And realtalk about Pele, no I don't read his posts, there's others I dont read also, but he is entitled to say what he wants on this forum, we all have the option to read or ignore.

Some nice posts there Peter, and as usual LT I agree!!!
Ossie
Im not, I just don't like to see people gang up on one person. I dont read Pele's post cos we all know what he says but I will never come on and say don't post.
Ossie
I'm neither frustrated nor annoyed myself coopsie and I wasn't complaining about your topic of posting on here. I'm just saying that we shouldn't let other non-abusive posters get us down and, just continue on as we please, regardless and, without abusing them. However, you seem to be also put out and offended by people that do choose to engage with Pele10 and that, I cannot understand. We're not in competition with each-other on here.
MAN ON!
Coopsie - Unfortunately you come across as someone who thinks that the effort you put in entitles you to be an arbiter of content and behaviour on here. Your contribution is clearly respected but your self-seeking style damages your reputation. Most of us ignore the repetitious - don't become one of them.

This thread has been the best bit of pre-season entertainment for years, made my Monday!! Special awards to Coopsie, MAN ON, and even though he hasn't posted Sir Pele...
T.H.F.Chris
coopsie ... No disrespect to you but I have to call it as I see it and, to be honest, you could halve all the repetition by simply not responding to peleís posts .... which is what most of us do. Leave the site management to OX and just make your own decision on what to read and comment on ... again something most of us do. It has nothing to do with supporting pele or not; there are no sides or conspiracies on VS as far as I can tell.
Geofspurs
Coopsie mate some people love what you do, they actually turn up just to read it. There are probably others who don't like reading all the non-sense... Equally some people love what Pele does, not many, most hate it but at the end of the day it is a forum for Spurs fan's to post whatever they like. Pele isn't rude or abusive so there is no reason for him to stop. Also to his point if Pochettino doesn't come through I think you'll start to see the majority of fans join Pele's drawn out argument.
T.H.F.Chris
Coopsie - you're making a mountain out of a molehill. It's the bickering that's clogging the threads not Pele10. Personally I find the transfer speculation tedious and can't wait for the action to start but others like it so do carry on if you're minded to. Either way the site will survive.
Love totty
The valid reason is simple: You have the right to make the request but he also has the right to ignore it... Why the big deal?

Coopsie do your Nonsense thread man!! Don't worry about Pele or if posts something, that's not a good reason to not to write. If you believe it is personal or the posting is a problem then you have to be the bigger man and rise above it - or ask him to post about ENIC, reserve psychology like...

Coopsie - don't spit your dummy out over this. Why deny yourself the kudos?
Love totty
Coops, I wasn't referring to you ,or anyone in particular...

Lol Coopsie! Kill Bill! I wouldn't encourage him!

Shame really as Pele does have it in him to post ON-topic and some very astute posts, but has a tendency to return to his favourite lines on almost every topic and somehow manages to create a relevance with his post.....though the real content is the same!

I ask others, if you were to go to your favourite restaurant with your other half and the background music is the same record every time you go and is in a replay mode, what would you do?... Either ask the manager to change the record or just not go back there again!. Sorry to be so simplistic on this subject but that is exactly the issue I have. Like I said earlier, the guy is articulate and can compose some lovely, thought provoking posts, but WHY end up resorting to the same 'moan'...that achieves NOTHING on this forum. I guess it is a case of each to their own eh?! COYS!

My two-pence for what it's worth, people should be allowed to post what they want. I read pele's posts, I think they're generally funny. He should be allowed to post as long as I'm allowed to call him a helmet if I think he's over-doing it. Freedom of speech should be respected, we ain't in North Korea so just let it go if someone's posting is annoying, be buddhist about it and let people type what they want. I've given pele enough bait and he's never fallen for it and abused me, so he can't be a bad bloke if you look at it that way. All opinions are and should be welcomed, that's why it's a forum, to bounce ideas and thoughts around. Yes I find his posts a little monotonous, but then there's loads of things in the world that annoy me that I just tolerate, some things aren't worth getting worked-up over. Asking Pele not to comment any ENIC stuff on an article is just asking for trouble anyway, it was bound to end in tears. It doesn't have to be like this, be the change you want to see in the world.
