Game four of our pre season and it could be bigged up as facing the champions of Scotland or based on this weeks CL capitulation, it could be our easiest game yet.
Of course, English v Scottish games always have that bit of spice and the Scots, usually up their game for the occasion. However a 4-1 Champions league drubbing against the Poles, Legia Warsaw, would indicate that there is little quality or cohesion in this Celtic side and this shouldn`t be too much trouble for Spurs and will be more about more minutes under the players belts and also a means to develop the teams playing style and ethos.
Though the World Cup and injured players are now back in training, it would appear that only Adebayor, Sandro and Bentaleb, will get to see any action today but whether they will start is another thing. Just one point, is Chiriches still injured or just out of the picture at the moment? This game will be interesting to see how far Pochettino is willing to look at settling in players into a team that is more like a Premiership starting line up at this stage. Without the World Cup players, is there really much point in looking at a settled team, but I can imagine that a few will get more minutes that others, as we build towards next weekends game against Schalke.
You certainly see Lloris and Vertonghen as definite starters in the Prem, but will tonight see Dawson and Kaboul paired together? Neither look like long term solutions in this regime, so will they be used to develop Fryers and the so far impressive Veljkovic while they are with us? So far this pre season there have been some very positive displays, Holtby, Rose and Lamela have all shone of the senior players, whilst I add Ryan Mason to Veljkovic as youngsters who have really impressed. I am also really wanting to see Eriksen and Lamela get more minutes to build an understanding, as they have the potential to be devastating together.
As for Celtic, you assume they will once again walk the SPL, but that means little, when there seems to be more interest in their second tier than the first. After losing so badly in Poland, you imagine that they will still have all eyes on next Wednesdays return leg, even if they look to have no chance, so will we see a team that probably could do without this game and will just go through the motions, this afternoon? I hope not, but either way, I sadly don`t see this as much of a test for Poch`s boys, or is that Bhoys...
