Big Deal for Harry Kane!

Big Deal for Harry Kane!

Spurs have confirmed that Harry Kane has signed a new five year contract with the club.

21 year old Kane has effectively cemented one of the current three striking positions with an impressive end of last season and his early form under the new manager. As things stand, Harry might consider that his versatility is an added strength to his game, as he seems happy to play through the middle as a lone or supporting striker, whilst has also looked useful cutting in from wide or deeper roles, something he made his name for in the academy.

Although at some stage, I expect Spurs to bring in another striker, I actually think that Harry is the safest bet of the three to remain at the club. Everyone knows that Adebayor is an up and down character, whilst we are still waiting for Soldado to click, if he ever does. You imagine that Harry will be content to take his chances when they arrive this season, but with more games and confidence, I feel he has real potential to become a top player.

It will be interesting to see how he works under Pochettino and I will be interested to see if he ultimately develops as a main striker or one in a supporting role..

Unless MP works some serious David Blaine style magic on Kane then I just don’t see the logic in this move. Danny Rose was our first choice LB last season, so as daft as it was its understandable that he got a new contract. Kane has had a handful of appearances in the PL. Sorry but what happens if he doesn’t improve this year? We have him on our books for another 4 years is what happens. This is exactly the problem at spurs, we keep offering long contracts to fringe players. MP cannot seriously be considering letting Kane have a regular spot in the starting 11. Getting a spot on the bench is risky enough!! Im all for building a team around young players and that’s ok if Kane were back up striker to say Augero and Suarez, but when your forward line is struggling as much as it is how can you give a 5 year deal to a 3rd choice, unproven, bang average striker. Serious concerns about levy at the moment.

First up - The Tottenham Hotspur squad for the qualifying round of the Europa League has been given to UEFA. Brad Friedel is the number two and not Michel Vorm for the two games against AEL Limassol (Cyprus). Kyle Walker has been included which suggests he is not a long way from fitness, Tom Carroll is included amid loan speculation and Ryan Mason who emerged on the North American pre-season tour is included. Goalkeepers; 1 Hugo Lloris 24 Brad Friedel Defenders; 2 Kyle walker 3 Danny Rose 4 Younès Kaboul 5 Jan Vertonghen 6 Vlad Chiricheş 15 Eric Dier 16 Kyle Naughton 20 Michael Dawson 33 Ben Davies Midfielders; 7 Aaron Lennon 8 Paulinho 11 Erik Lamela 14 Lewis Holtby 17 Andros Townsend 19 Mousa Dembélé 22 Nacer Chadli 23 Christian Eriksen 28 Thomas Carroll 29 Étienne Capoue 30 Sandro 38 Ryan Mason Forwards; 9 Roberto Soldado 10 Emmanuel Adebayor The first game is next Thursday 21st August away in Cyprus, shown on ITV4 in the UK and the second leg at White Hart Lane is the following week (28th August) before we play Liverpool that Sunday. - See more at: http://tottenhamhotspur.blogspot.co.uk/2014/08/no-vorm-in-europa-league-qualifying.html#sthash.fSfbDklC.dpuf

Very interesting!...not the Kane contract but the duration. Rose 5 years, Kane 5 years, Poch 5 years, Yedlin (5 years) because although offered 4 years, not starting 'til the 1015 season. So, the conspiracy theory would be if Poch leaves in 5 years we will have a Southampton-like clear out at the same time!!...I wonder if Vert is being offered 5 years too. COYS!

Another article I saved when ''not so daft levy'' gave Danny Rose a 5yr contract:- Do you think that Levy has agreed to give Rose a 5 year contract because he believes he is the answer to our prayers at left back?Since the Bosman ruling came into play, Rose’s contract was almost up so sign him for 5 years; give him the reserve left back spot; include him as one of the home grown players in the squad, we need a certain amount of home grown players, and sell him for decent money in a years time - certainly by a lot more extra than his small wages. It is what Levy does; it is what every club should do. Why did we increase Falque’s contract? Have you not noticed we just got £4m for someone who has played for us once, when we bought him for £1m. We have given Obika a new contract - is this because we believe he is going to be the answer to our prayers up front? Levy is managing to keep us near the top with a tiny stadium. He has built the most staggering training ground - if you haven’t seen it go and see it. The plans for the new ground are incredible and the funding is in place. Tottenham have this vision because of the business acumen of our chairman. Feel free to write an article next year headlined ‘How the hell did we get £8m for Danny Rose’.

I honestly can't see why people think this is mad! I was quite impressed by him nearly every time I have seen him play and think every time he has been given the chance, he has done well...like we saw at the end of last season. He is home grown, is Spurs through and through and is hardly earning top wages. The new contract means that our manager has confidence in his abilities - and he has seen more of what he is capable of in training than we have. I think it's a real shame some supporters complain about bringing a youth through that has done absolutely nothing wrong, is still young and shows a bit of promise. I think he will do well when called on this year.

We need better than Lane and he needs to stay on his feet, his diving is embarrassing.

I'm chuffed that we have Harry tied down for another 5 years. He has a great touch, strong in the air, a rocket shot and is improving and filling out. I would much rather we sold Ade and Soldado and gave Kane the backup role to somebody like better than the forementioned two. The problem with Kane isn't the five year contract, it's the two strikers in front of him, in my opinion an on-form Kane looks more dangerous than Soldado already. Ade is only here in fits and starts, unplayable on his day, but those only come around occasionally.

Better to get a Bony, Benteke, Remy type to be our main threat and give Kane the number two slot. We would still need a third, even if we were only going with one up front, Wickham would do me fine, still regret missing out on him the first time.

What next a new 5 year contract for Brad. How average do you have to be at Spurs to get a new contract. I'm really not looking forward to this season. None of the signings will propel as into the top four and I think we will struggle to make the top six will the squad we have. I think clubs have figured out the way Levy works in the transfer window, in wanting silly prices for throw away players and then putting in low bids for transfer targets. For years we have needed players that will improve the first team and we always seem to improve the squad but not always the first 11. He should be working on getting players in and out of the door and sort out new contracts once the window shuts. He needs to tie down Verts if there is one player we need to keep. Then provide the new manager with the tools he needs to do the job in hand. I would love to know what the min expectations are for the team this year from Levy. I do love the comments from the manager about having a great squad. I agree that we have a great squad but still would not say we have a great first 11. Still weak in certain areas. Up front is still poor including the new five year contract boy. Still think we need another left winger and if we do not get in a top centre half then the same problems against the top teams will happen. Sort out the in and outgoings first.

I fail to understand why people are unhappy with this contract extension. If he is part of the future we probably extend him again in a couple of years. If he is not, we sell him and get our valuation as he is under contract. Everything suggests he has some ability, the question is whether he will continue to progress or whether he has already hit his level. Like the Rose contract, it is protecting our interests whether the player will stay or will go. Seems wise to me. COYS

It's obvious what is happening. Poch sees enough in these youngsters and feels he can improve them. We give them a long contract and time for Poch to do his job in improving them. Once they have improved they will either be good enough to play for us or sold at a higher price than we would get now because they will be better players and under contract. It makes sense. Levy obviously trust Poch and his coaches to get the best out of these players and is investing in them, and so he should. If These players improve over the next season or so but don't quite improve enough to be with us for the length of their contract they will go to a mid table team for a better price. However, they may well improve enough to be back ups and play in the cups. There is a plan and Levy is obviously buying into it on both accounts, buying into Poch philosophy and investing in these players. Look at the youngsters at southampton, they have fetch silly money. English players go for high prices, Levy has seen that and feels Poch can improve them. Its a win win situation, they will not be on mega money. As long as Poch does improve them I see no problem.

on his current rate of improvement it will take him another 2-3 years to warrant a permanent starting place. I have no objection if it takes him that long, the only thing I ask is we do NOT rely on him during that time. We need another striker but I don't think we will get one this window so we should focus heavily on defence. CB is essential!!

I think we must have mucked up Man City's plans for the season. First we managed to sign up Rose on a 5 year deal, so they then have to get Silva to stay and give him a 5 year deal. Then we tie down Kane for 5 years so they have to give in and do the same for Agureo. Think they know we have all but signed on the dotted line a 5 year deal for Dawson and that is why Kompany got a new deal.

Good business, might be third choice striker at present but you have to assume he is happy with that role. In any event, should we sign another striker surely he would not be the one to make way. On another note it's highly unlikely that he will be on a wage that would be prohibitive to selling him, should we decide to at the end if the season as some have suggested.
