Prem Squad Confirmed!

Spurs have announced their Twenty five (well 23 to be exact) squad for the first half of the season.

No major surprises, as the only senior player to miss out is Benoit Assou-Ekkotto, but the expectation is that he will either be moved on in the loan window or allowed to kick his heels in the stands or wherever he might choose to spend his time.

It is pleasing to see both Ryan Mason and Cristian Ceballos named in the squad. Both have real potential and I would be very happy to see Mason used as an alternative to Eriksen, even if that is in the Cup competitions or as a later Prem Sub.

Of the expected first team selections, Eric Dier, Nabil Bentaleb, Harry Kane and Ben Davies are not named in the twenty three, as they are still considered free U21 picks for the club.

The squad is as follows: Hugo Lloris, Michel Vorm, Brad Friedel; Kyle Walker, Kyle Naughton, Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen, Federico Fazio, Vlad Chiriches, Danny Rose; Etienne Capoue, Benjamin Stambouli, Mousa Dembele, Paulinho, Ryan Mason, Christian Eriksen, Aaron Lennon, Andros Townsend, Nacer Chadli, Erik Lamela, Cristian Ceballos, Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado.

This may sound silly but if Spurs have only named 23 out of their 25 why not give Benoit Assou-Ekkotto, a shirt. Should Rose, Davies, etc. all got injured could he not play in the Europa or cup games, if he does not go. Just a thought.

Lamela showed his technique he is not scared of shooting and getting into the area, that what we want from him. This game and goal will give him confidence. What a beauty, lets hope he comes back and does the same for us.

My understanding is that BAE has been training in France. I don't expect him to go anywhere unless someone will take him on a pre-contract in January and we are willing to allow him out of his contract or we will buy him out. The fact that Harry Redknapp did not consider him for a promoted team says an awful lot. I only watched him 5 or 6 times last season but he looked very average. TS wanted nothing to do with him, nor did AVB, nor did Pochettino. I'd suggest he's done. COYS

Lamela was the only attacking player against Liverpool who kept asking for the ball. His plays did not work and several through balls had no runner, but he was clearly trying to affect the game. Now lets get the rest of the players on the pitch wanting that. COYS

Ox Yid, he can't be added...quite appallingly we can only name 6 homegrown players in that list so 2 spaces had to be left empty.

flipper, quite right and I agree it is somewhat shocking. That said, Kane and Davies will count next year and I fully expect BAE to be gone (he is not named so does not change the equation), Kaboul to probably be gone along with Holtby (again, not named) and Friedel. That should provide us with some flexibility going forward and remove the need to sell to buy. Theoretically, we should be better able to get things done without looking at what other dominoes need to fall. COYS

Assou-Ekotto praised Dieudonne M'bala M'bala last season, and even jokingly invited him to attend White Hart Lane via Twitter, there was no way he was ever going to appear for us again under our current owners.

Crissybwoy, he was out of favour before that, but there is no doubt that that did not help his cause. Having said that, I have always liked BAE for the way that he is invested in the community and believe him to be an intelligent man. He has always spoken against racism and is one of the few public figures who was out in the streets when the riots were going on. I believe that he and Anelka were both supporting a person's right to free speech. Was it created as an anti-Semitic sign or was it anti-establishment as Dieudonne claims? Only he knows. It is a very****ly issue. BAE knew what he was doing just as he knew what he was doing when he and Adebayor held up the collective five fingers seconds after the Liverpool game ended. As I said, he is a very intelligent person and I would personally love to sit down and talk to him. He has no place in this squad though. COYS

Ekotto seems like a cool geezer, but his gum-chewing laid-back attitude isn't necessarily a good attitude to have around the place. Harry said he always had to inform him a couple of days before a game who we were playing, not sure if that's true but his general demeanour was one of not being too bothered if we won or lost. I admire his honesty saying he's just in it for the money, but was there ever a game where he left 100% of himself out on the pitch and was exhausted, knowing he couldn't have done more? I never saw that tbh. Skilful and talented yes, hard-working no.

peterballb You can`t say BAE fought against racism & then he supported a racist in the same sentence.
Have your cake & eat it? You can`t pick & choose whne you support just when it suits your own colour or religion, that`s just plain hypocricy which IMO is even worse.
That`s just going against something that might affect you & supporting something that does not, either against it or not don`t just pick & choose for your own agenda.

The thing that really annoys me is that we are still presumably paying BAE's wages, and I bet he is on a fair wedge as well, and he won't be playing, he can just run his deal down as a man of leisure. The PL 25 man squad looks decent, but hardly inspired, looking at it, I can't help asking myself how many of them would be a 1st teamers in any club above us in the league. Lamela looks a decent player, but based on last Sunday's game, and several games last season, if Lamela is a 30M player, how much is Raheem Stirling worth, double that? It just shows how absurdly expensive both Lamela, and Soldado, were last summer, and this cost no doubt cramped our style in this window, hence we didn't address obvious problems in the squad.

Fanny adams, it is not having your cake and eating it too. The fact that Jean Marie Le Pen is a racist does not mean that he does not have the right to speak. Dieudonne is no different. Whether comments are incitement to hatred and criminal in nature is a whole other thing. Neither BAE or Anelka, from what they said or did was, on the face of it, racist. Neither were charged criminally as certainly they could have been. You are assuming people's motives and intentions which goes way beyond what either did or tweeted. Both have, without a doubt, suffered the slings and arrows of pointed racist comments. I lived in France for a year. Not the greatest place to be if you are obviously North African. Not a lot of love there. I have seen it in action directly in front of my face. OTT does not even get close. I have read quite a few articles over the years about the involvement of BAE in the community and with respect to anti-racism. He has a reputation in that regard and I'll happily give him the benefit of the doubt on that one. Does not mean it was wise or necessary. As I said, I believe him to be an intelligent man who knew or ought to have known that it would not have one down well and would certainly have been open to negative interpretation. Just as his antics with Adebayor who were both widely defended by many on here stating they had no idea what they were doing and that it was mere coincidence that it was posted just seconds after the final whistle blew. Sorry, I'm not that stupid and nor are they. COYS

Not a bad squad but I don't understand the binning of Holtby as he is/was a good quality utility midfielder who could plug injury gaps and get a goal or two in the process. Shame he's gone. Harry Kane has got to be included, he is fast improving this time round.
