FA Cup Preview: Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur

FA Cup Preview: Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur

Defeat against Fulham on Sunday is not on my agenda but the potential of being bounced out of two cup competitions within a week may just tip me over the edge (wibble!).

Personally, I would keep to the same starting XI who began against KAA Gent - they have a point to prove, don't they. On the other hand my hope might be dashed, especially when Poch confirmed during last night's post-match Europa League press conference that Harry picked up a minor knee injury and may not even make the bench.

Jan Vertonghen and Danny Rose are still side-lined and so we'd better expect a blend of youth and experience when the lads turn out at Craven Cottage.

Anyone going?

This is exactly what I have been saying on here and getting told I am talking rubbish and getting slaged off for. NOW it is coming from the players themselves. No matter what you think of Sissoko, he has hit the mail right on the head, and it is there for ALL to see, apart from those in denial and those who refuse to see it because they don;t want to. WE HAVE BEEN SUSSED ........................ Speaking after Thursday's defeat in Belgium, Sissoko admitted: "Everyone knows how we play and they try to give 100 percent against Tottenham," ESPN reported.

Our game now is getting almost as one dimensional as it was under AVB or tactics Tim. So easy to play against because there is NO plan B and even if there were we don't have the players on the bench to be able to change the game for us. They are just worse versions of the first team players

I agree with Chrisove but it has to be down to Poch. We have seen the players demonstrate skill and quality but they are hobbled by the tactics. We have pace and skill in GKN but he never gets a game. Alli is played wide left when he is much more effective centrally. Dier is effective in a back 3 but we play 4231. Kane needs support but the front 3 are usually dispersed. Play 2 in MF and any team can overrun us. It's up to Poch.

Sissoko, really is a fine one to talk. He offers nothing to the club .. .. I see a 3-1 loss and Fulham progressing .... MP has a small mutany on his hands ... in the way some think they are untouchable and can play regardless of form ... sorry, but Dier, can't play on the left of a back 4 ... MP, really needs to give these a kick up the rear and sort them out .....

I'm not quite sure why Poch has reverted to a flat back 4 to accommodate Davies. He hasn't got the pace to go up and down the line like Rose. Similarly Trippier vis-a-vis Walker. But if he played three CBs, he could push Davies and Trippier (assuming he plays tomorrow) further up, giving them less ground to cover. Trippier, to my mind, is a better attacking full back than Walker, and Davies, as an attacker, is good enough on his day. Three CBs would also help Dier who has looked increasingly vulnerable and isolated in recent matches at CB.

Have to slightly disagree on Sissoko, never wanted him, but he is not a front three attacker, more a player that likes to bully his way through and will use his pace and strength to good effect, he gets stick for been played out of position.

Same for Dier, he is poor in defence so why play him, Wimmer (had a mare but needs game time ) is a natural left footer and should be played.

GKN has the pace and trickery and hardly ever gets a full 90 minutes or a run in the team, Lamela got over a year playing poorly and improved for it.

Same could be said for Janssen, yes he did not score in those 5 games when Kane was out but to be fair we were drawing most of those games and giving zero service. Kane has been just as poor recently, looks lethargic and not bothered.

Dreading the game tomorrow, Sisooko is correct, teams know how to upset our game and Dembele now says we took it for granted, why ? This is your job .

Ones I feel for are the supporters, especially those that go to the games.

I hope Wimmer starts, but not alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers who was a nervous wreck vs Wycombe. That CB partnership would not be fair on either of them.

As soon as Vertonghen got injured, the struggles began, same story with Toby earlier on in the season. But the problems aren't defensive, they are offensive and I think that might be because our 2 Belgian CB's act like our deep-lying playmakers initiating a lot of our attacks in ways Wanyama and to a lesser extent Dembele, don't seem able to replicate. Even Pardew stated last season that our CB's are basically midfielders. I think in the summer we could do with more creativity from CM, a Carrick/Modric type.

At risk of suffering the wrath of E17 and his assertion that I shouldn't be a Spurs supporter even after some 67 years, because I don't wear the obligatory "rose tinted glasses" and can see what is staring me in the face, and am not in denial, I will say that this is a very important game to get us out of our malaise of 1 win from the last 4, and that from a penalty, and 2 wins from the last 6. We need to take this opportunity to progress in the FA Cup and take full advantage of the favourable draws we are enjoying, get back to winning way and make a genuine attempt to win it, a trophy would be very welcome, we have waited long enough, and especially as more and more PL teams fall (2 more gone today). If our current slump continues we are in grave danger of replicating last seasons last quarter slump, and end up as trophy less bridesmaids yet again. It seems to be a feature of MP's PL career, that his teams cannot sustain effort or results for a full season and taper off at the business end. It is also true to say that we have become predictable and easy to nullify, even for teams of lower quality than us, so let's sort ourselves out and put this tie v Fulham to bed, and get into the last 8 draw (Lincoln City at home would come in handy). Several of our players owe MP and the Spurs fans a performance, and what better time to turn up and put in the effort than in a key cup tie.

Frank, don't hold your breath for anything spectacular tomorrow! Firstly, Poch has already stated that he intends to make changes, which imo, asking a bunch of players that have rarely played alongside one another to gel and secondly, Fulham are no mugs, far superior to Wycombe and 3rdly, Seen the upsets in the cup so far. So, a deep breath, fingers crossed that the players and Poch approach this game with a drilled intent. Failure tomorrow and Poch and the new scout had better start scouring the globe for suitable replacements. Having said that, I think we will just squeak through this round! COYS!

Never mind changes, we need to play a team to win the game. As has been said this is our best opportunity to win something this season, especially given the draws we have had with Villa, Wycombe and now Fulham. After the debacle at Gent, I don't see us as serious challengers for the EL, and we are far from certain to finish in the top 4 of the PL, and in any case who remembers those that finish 4th, and unless we spend big in the summer we are not equipped for qualification into the CL anyway, as we proved this season by falling at the group stage in a very moderate group. For these reasons I think we should go all out in the FA Cup to at least try to actually win a trophy, only Mr Levy's second in his 16 year tenure.

Spurs need to be aggressive in their attack tomorrow. Start by playing in some early crosses to the back post. Would dearly love to see HK or any other attacking player, flinging himself to get to the end of those crosses. That is the aggression I want to see tomorrow. Blood and thunder in the opponent's penalty box, I say. Would not mind if we threw the kitchen sink at them in the process. COYS.

Frank, I don't have rose tinted glasses. These performances frustrate me also, I can't defend the likes of Janssen and sissoko. But stats are just that ... we only scored 1 in the previous 4 agreed , we only lost 1 game in the epl out of them 4 .. stats can always be manipulated to the benefits of a persons point .. against Gent we lost, I am not bothered by the EL, it lost it appeal to me when they changed the format. ... now the FA Cup, it's disgusting we have not won or been in the final for 26 years, however we need to win a trophy, and let's hope this is the year for us. ... we are trying to build for the future, we are progressing every season. Something special is happening to Spurs ... I hope it's will be soon .. ut I said I would be happy with 5th and I feel we are doing better than we should. .... we only did ok because the big teams did poor, well a year later we are still up in the top 4 so are they doing bad or are we better?

And, frank, I fully agree no second string team .l. They proved against Wycombe they are not up to the job. ... I said we would lose 1-3 ... because Fulham are doing well ... but a strong team no Davies, Janssen and sissoko would make us stronger immediately... how we miss rose and verts

E17YID - Man On has chosen not to use his former username but he knows its there if he wants (he registered his current VS name years ago). HGS had his account deleted, however, I spoke to him just after his ban and said he was welcome to return ( certain conditions) but he would have to choose another name. He told me he would return. If he has then its not fair I disclose such info. Man On on the other hand did voluntary say he was using his cockj name and so I'm not disclosing any secrets.

We should be out of sight by now. One thing is very noticeable, we are dithering on the ball all over the pitch allowing the opposition time to nick the ball before a pass can be played. Some of the crossing has been awful as well, these guys are earning tens of thousands of pounds a week for their skills yet you or I could probably do better in many cases!

Verts in place for Dier was an obvious step up in quality,, hopefully no more injuries, i think we have been unlucky with injuries this season, a few nasty ones to key players at key stages of the season, at our lack of quality from the bench has shown our glaring weakness. Must admit, I am struggling with Son. Every time he gets selected, you just know he's going to drift through long periods of the game being totally anonymous. Yes, he's always likely to score but really doesn't bring much else to this team. It's very frustrating.

Saying that, a 3-0 win away and Millwall in the next round. We did what we needed to do. Very happy to see Vertonghen back as well.

Son is frustrating to watch. He should discard those step overs that never work and use basic feints/body movement when taking on players. I think he could improve his interplay with teammates as well. He looks out of sync sometimes, like he's doing his own thing on the pitch, seemingly unaware of the game plan or even the offside trap! Still think he's a good player, with only his 1st touch being an obvious weakness. He's productive (goals/assists) and knows how to win a penalty.. With a fully fit squad, he's imo a bench player, with the potential to be a starter if he takes his game to the next level.
