Spurs News, In Brief

It's time to take a gander at what Tottenham Hotspur FC are up to.

We have been drawn at home against either Barnsley or Derby County in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The winners receive a paltry £100,000 while the runners-up get a mere £50,000. Pathetic really, especially when many of the top Premier League players get more than that in their pay packets, per WEEK.

Does this competition float anyone's boat?

Colombia international Davinson Sanchez has become a Spurs player.

The 21-year-old defender, who spent one year with Ajax last season has signed a six-year contract. The deal cost Spurs around £40m.

Paulo Gazzaniga has moved from Southampton on a five-year deal. The 25-year-old Argentine is thought to be a backup keeper to Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm.

Kyle Walker-Peters has signed a new THFC contract. The new deal runs until 2020.

The Champions League group stage draw takes place later today at 5pm.

I have a sneaky suspicion we'll end up in a so-called 'group of death'.

I notice there is no news coming out of THFC HQ regarding the meeting with Rose yesterday?

I think every CL group will be a 'group of death'. Exciting, isn't it?

This cup is a joke, where is the incentive for the club? I suppose the players will have a incentive to get a winners medal, but it isn't really offering too much is it?.

I think I will be happy when the TW closes and then we can assess our window, so many names still being put around.

I think the mentality of the players re CL must be spot on. To want to play the big guns in the CL like RM, Barca you usually have to get through the less attractive clubs and this is where we need to be respectful that there is no easy CL games and you have to earn a quarter final against a top club, usually.

I wonder what Rose situation is, all quiet on that front and now we await for the confirmation of our next signing and TW last day drama

since we are sorely missing coopsie's nonsense I thought I would encourage some gossiping with bits of rumours currently flying around. Apparently Toby and Dier have signed new contracts - if true that is fantastic news, with regards Toby in particular as that is better than any signing. His record everywhere he has played is simply mind-boggling. of the seven seasons he has played as a first teamer for Ajax, Atletico Madrid, Southampton and Spurs his team has either had the best defensive record in the respective league ( 5 times out of the 7) or the second best - including with Southampton which is pretty extraordinary. Since he arrived we have had the meanest defence in the league, and that in itself is truly unbelievable and as a spurs fan something I never thought I would be saying. Vertonghen of course deserves huge credit too, and his individual stats are even more impressive, but Toby is a natural leader and together they are quite easily the best defensive pairing in the country. Toby deserves a big pay rise and so hopefully this new contract talk is true and will put to bed the nauseating rumour that Chelsea and others are trying to steal our defensive rock. The notion that Dier has also put pen to paper suggests that perhaps he has been reassured with clarity about his role - presumably more midfield, and that the wonder-kid Sanchez is there to partner Toby and Verts in a back three. Other rumours are that we are pursuing Aurier at around half the cost of Walker to City, although as a character he clearly comes with baggage, as a player he could be a great replacement. The fact that we are now the club with the world class manager who gives youth a real chance, means we might be able to attract some really special young talent. Arguably Sanchez is of that ilk, but certainly young Jadon Sancho is. Rumour would have it that following his falling out at City due to being left out of the pre-season US tour, young Sancho is pushing for a move and we are fighting it out with Arsenal no doubt among others. This kid is certainly a major talent, and this would be a significant coup. With the likes of Edwards, Dele and Sancho, spurs would be looking pretty well positioned in the new stadium. Direct intervention from Poch to entice his fellow Argentine Foyth has apparently made a difference and the kid is intent on joining the party, while we have also allegedly been in pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon, a talent as significant as Gareth Bale according to some. Even if this would be a buy and lend back to Fulham, if this deal could be struck this would be a great signing and could see Rose pushed out at least next year. Fulham look to be digging in though and don't want to lose the player this window. Other truly delightful rumours, (but probably too good to be true!) include our pursuit of a striker in the form of the speedy Keita Balde currently with Lazio and the simply delicious rumour that Juventus are interested in taking Sissoko off our hands. Now that would be a pleasant surprise! So despite the long silence during this window so far it could be an exciting final week - there is no question that with Poch we have a manager who will attract the better young talents, and this squares perfectly with Levy's strategy of buying young so we shall see if we can't actually take advantage of this rare alignment. It certainly beats Harry and his let's offer experience like Gallas one final costly contract. Finally, I wouldn't be surprised if we secure a deal for Barkley for around 20 million during the closing hours of the window ;) it's good to dream...

The Carling cup should be an opportunity to play the fringe and youth players as it is utterly meaningless in terms of a trophy. However, it does serve very well to promote the youth players with little risk to the club whilst giving them invaluable experience and opportunity!

well that is a tough CL group. Especially as the other PL teams have very easy groups by comparison. At least we have some glamour ties I suppose, and we hardly performed well when we were expected to get out of the group last year, so perhaps this will ensure we are really up for these games. Not pleased to play Dortmund yet again, but we do owe them a thrashing for once...

Looking forward to our games against RM and Dortmund. These are the types of games which puts you on the map! And who knows we may surprise many people by knocking these teams off on the way to the round of 16!

Given that we are up against it in the CL, this "Mickey Mouse" cup may be our most realistic chance at a trophy this year... I wouldn't drop it too soon.
