The Dortmund V Tottenham Predictor Competition

The Dortmund V Tottenham Predictor Competition

This is how I think we will line up;

Tottenham (3-5-1-1): Lloris, Sanchez, Dier, Vertonghen; Aurier, Winks, Alli, Sissoko, Rose; Son; Llorente.

I`m predicting the score will be 1-1, Dortmund will lead 1-0 halftime from an Aubameyang Goal and we`ll equalize in the second. Son will score for us.

Dortmund have not won one of their last Six Champions League games.

But for the rest of you, if you can predict the score and the scorers you can win Harry Kane`s autobiography.

There are five books to be given away to tonight`s winners

Simply post your prediction of the final score, plus the name(s) - (both teams) of the goal scorers, the one that gets it right will win Harry`s autobiography. It goes without saying for the Thierry Henri`s amongst you, I can see the time they were posted!

If no one gets it dead right, then it will be awarded to the five posters - whoever was the closest (in my view) of both the score and the scorers…

In the event of more than five wining predictions; the winners will be drawn from my Beer Stein after the match, or as soon as it is empty - which could be a while….

Your predictions have to be entered here by 19:00 (kick off is 19:45)

spursex/BS .... Is the best way to submit an article still to go to 'submit article' on the drop-down menu? What happens to it then? Where does it go?

When does Wink's autobiography come out? Is that part of the pitch in attracting young players, 'We know you're only seventeen but if you sign for us you can publish your first book next season'!

My last two articles were submitted via the drop-down menu ... but I ended up re-submitting them via email to Gordon Davies. I've never had that problem before .... despite the fact that I write a load of dribble!

Spursex - like Geof said, I select "suggest an article" from the drop-down menu on "Vital Spurs Menu". Is that not the right way to do it anymore? Historically I have always done it that way, except for one time under Tino when I emailed him the article because it went over the character limit. It has always worked in the past. I have saved a Word version of the article this time, in order to avoid having to rewrite it a 3rd time ;-).

Spursex - the latest one I sent probably replaces the initial one. I spent a bit more time writing that one, it's a bit more polished. There are 2 more subjects I'd like to write about in the next weeks: firstly, our ongoing search for a long-term solution at striker (a comprehensive view essentially going back to the Keane/Berbatov era, which for me is the last time we've actually managed to buy strikers who performed, and how we eventually have had to develop a striker instead of being capable of buying a good one). For the other one, something more stats-based - maybe something about our record vs the top 6 compared to our record vs all the others, and how important that is/was in determining our final league position. That article requires more work (I'd like to look at minimum 10 seasons, both for us and the team that eventually won the league), and see if there are any trends to uncover. If there are any subjects that you or someone else would like to see covered, I am open to suggestions.

Llorente is much worse than Janssen. He looks a bit of a donkey out there. We need better, worse signing I've seen for years.

Spot on BS. The last excellent striker we signed was Berbatov, but if you look at the great strikers who've emerged since the - Europe wide, I don't think many (or any) of them would've joined us where we were at. I still remember the heartbreak of City signing Dzeko... If we manage to qualify for the CL next season, then I think we can start looking at getting top class cover for Kane. From what I've seen of Llorente, he shouldn't be getting anywhere near playing for us.

We should try to get Aubameyang in for next season. He's got everything we need.

Fanman, totally agree - said the same to the chaps I was watching it with...but in the current market he's a £55-65 mill striker, nuts, but that's what they will want; would we do that?...
Spursex

Spursex, You never know. if we can pay 30 mil for Sissoko... We desperately need a competent striker to support Kane. Auba's 28 atm, that may bring any fee down by a few mil. As you say though, I think £55-65 would be the asking price, as he's such an important player for them. He's proven quality though and can perform on any stage. Looking at strikers we could possibly bring in, he looks like the right fit for us.

Son - undercover Bale all day long - what a replacement for a 1/4 of the price - don't understand why we keep getting linked to Bale apart from the supposed clause. Up front we need to give Janssen a proper chance to develop before writing off as a 1 season flop - still young and raw especially Prem wise. Want us to spend £10-15m getting Barkley in January and he can form a formidable partnership with Alli and Kane not just for us but for England aswell!

El Jefe - the way he's going in Turkey, Janssen just looks like a flop, end of... And I'm waiting for Son to not only earn a regular starting place, but also score 21 goals or more from the wing in a PL season before the comparison with Bale is even remotely valid.

Son's got everything going for him (pace, skill, 2 footed) and his goal average is the same as Bale's at the same stage in Spur's career on average given 20 in 73 games - like you say he's not even a regular starter which says quite a bit. Quite a few assists too bag also! As for Janssen he's only 23 and needs to be given atleast another season. He was signed as an understudy to Kane obviously and at the moment it's shown - although surprising and dangerous like the fact that he was loaned out and to a tough environment like Turkey also.

When Bale scored his 21 goals in his final season, he wasn't really playing as a winger. Bales EPL goal per minute ratio was 1 goal every 139 minutes that season. Son scored a goal every 147 minutes last season, so not too far off. But I don't think this tells the whole story as Bale was performing in a less functional, less offensive team and, imo, under an inferior manager. Stats aside, Bales performances were also more consistent in general. I still really like Son and believe we are very lucky to have a player with his attributes. Its really only consistency that separates him from the elite level players like Bale. As for Janssen, he clearly isn't the type of character who settles quickly in new countries/leagues/teams, so wouldn't be a major shock if he starts scoring in Turkey at some point. That being said, im not convinced he's a big team player, or has the necessary attributes we need.

El Jefe - if you're good enough, age is just a number. There a numerous players aged 23 of younger who are performing now. If Janssen was 17 I'd agree with you. At 23, we should start to see results now. As for Son, he's a good player and I'm happy to have him. He is contributing. But Bale, when fit, is arguably in the 10 or 15 best players in the world. Son isn't. Not a like for like replacement for me by any stretch of the imagination, but Son is a good player.
