Watford v Tottenham Preview

Watford v Tottenham Preview

The distance from Wembley to Watford is around 11 miles; the distance between Tottenham and Watford is three points; a home win for Watford by 10 goals will put them in seventh and we'd drop to eighth.

I can confidently predict that's not going to happen, I cannot so confidently predict us winning.

Watford under their highly rated and sought after manager Marco Silva have been playing some of the best attacking exciting football in the whole of the Premier League, and the results have followed accordingly, but their preference for attack has also cost them dear against better teams.

The Hornets will be coming into this game after playing well, but losing 2-4 to Manchester United in midweek, 3-0 down they recovered to 3-2 and were pressing high and hard before conceding a 4th late on.

Earlier on in the season they lost 0-6 to ManCity, it was a salutary experience and Silva has worked hard since then to get the whole teams closing down and workrate to a higher level, in many respects his impact and his methods of improved fitness along with a high pressing workrate mirrors Pochs' early impact.

But they also now have their injury problems with the highly rated Isaac Success, Nathaniel Chalobah, ex-Spur Younes Kaboul, Will Hughes, Craig Cathcart, and Tommie Hoban all out, and its doubtful Kiko Femenia and Miguel Britos will be fit for selection.

As so often happens, these injuries have brought about a chance pairing that's been looking strong and it will be here that they'll be looking to impose their game on us.

The pairing of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Cleverley in central midfield is a strong one, Cleverly has really started to getting back to his best which once had Fergie saying he was the best CM'er in the PL; he has been on a bad journey since those days, but is probably now playing some of the best football of his life.

Both work hard to run beyond the defence and get into the box when they attack down the flanks; we'll have a real battle on our hands to keep them quiet.

As for us, the good news is Winks will be back, Lamela could possibly start depending on how he came out of his re-appearance as Eriksen is clearly desperately in need of some respite, but the odds are Poch will think this is a game we must not lose and its too much of a gamble to play Lamela from the start, but could and should replace him with Song.

Watford are a physical side, I expect to see Dembele and Winks in midfield with Dembo playing a more withdrawn role, Dembele is still trying to find his form, which so far this season has eluded him.

A draw here is a minimum, a win would be a big shot in the arm, the corresponding game last season ended in a 1-4 win for us; I can't see that happening this time, although I do expect the game to produce goals, it may only be a score draw unless Harry is back to his best and we are far more ruthless in front of goal and take our chances and don't miss 3 or 4 clear cut chances as we did against Leicester.

We have not lost to Watford since they've been in the Premier league winning 6 and drawing two; now is not the time to do so, a loss to Watford would make a 'difficult moment' into a full blown crisis and hopes of securing a top 4 finish would take a huge blow, if not be another mission impossible, just as winning the league now is.

Poch has a couple of tough choices to make at left and right wing back, but given his recent rotations, I expect Trippier and Davies to start with a back three of Dier, Sanchez and Vert. A midfield of Dembele and Winks with a front three of Eriksen (should be Song, but we will see), Alli and Kane.

Tottenham should be playing like they have a point to prove, if they don't and we start slowly or concede early, chances are our heads will drop and this could be another long disappointing game.

Given our current difficulty and slump in form, this will be a very difficult game. Watford are over performing this season, they are very very well organised by an exciting young manager, play as a team, and have no prima donnas, just honest pros playing their hearts out. If we do come unstuck in yet another home game there will undoubtedly be some serious questions asked. It will be interesting to see whether the gate figures will hold up to recent levels.

don't play 3 at the back, its not working at the moment. The quality of the crosses into the box is not good. Play 4 at the back; Trippier and Davies Sanchez and Verts. Sanchez doesn't look comfortable playing on the right of a back 3 and Dier has lost his geography playing in the centre. He lost Vardy on Tuesday he lost Martial at United, both goals should never have happened. Put Dier in front of the back four don't start Moussa bring him on later when the pace of the game slows down, the Mousse has lost a yard since his last injury, he'll just lose the ball and then foul a player trying to get it back, play Winks Box to Box. Put Son in on the right leave Dele on the bench to come on for Son, bring Rose in at Left wing to give some pace to the left hand side, let Rose play in front of Davies so Davies can concentrate shutting down the left of the pitch it worked against Real Madrid! Play Lamela for 60 minutes to do what Eriksen should be doing but, above all, press Watford, don't give them space in the middle of the park, break up their play and get them on the counter, their not as good defending as they are going forward, we need a solid back 5 that doesn't lose its shape, we were too open against Leicester, we are shipping too many silly goals. Watford will start fast so we have to make good tackles and break up their rhythm. Winks can carry the ball and turn defence into attack and with Son and Rose out wide we can use Lamela as the pivot and it will gave Harry the chance to roam the corridor of uncertainty in front of Gomez who always panics when faced with; "should he come out or stay on his line"! when he comes out he's a penalty waiting to happen! Harry needs to be in the box not going back to get the ball and looking for work Lamela has the nous to use the slide ball Winks has the engine to get the ball to outside the area with Rose and Son making runs Watford cant put everyone on to Kane and Harry only needs half a chance. Its back to basics Poch for this, and the next 2 games, we have to go to Man City on the 16th December with 3 victories under our belt. City aren't invincible it took a last gasp goal against Bournemouth and Southampton to get the 3 points but we have to, have to win our next 3 games, ugly or smart it doesn't matter, its the hard yards part of the season and we have to play the players who can roll their sleeves up and concentrate in a shape that they are comfortable in and then go back to 3 at the back when Alders and Wanya are back. COYS!

I too consider a 4-2-3-1, but I've convinced myself that Poch won't abandon the 3 at the back and is pretty desperate to try and play Dembele back into some sort of form. They will come at us, as they'll know we're vulnerable and confidences will be fragile. This game will be about getting a fast start and making sure that we can weather what will probably be a manic first 20 mins by them.

Some interesting suggestions above but we all know Poch will play the same formation as the last few games switching the full-backs, replacing Dembele with Winks to allow SIssoko to continue his rich vein of form. IF THIS Is the case then its a home banker 3-0.

If we lose to Watford the pressure on Poch will be immense. We have a new stadium that will be ready next year that will require at least 60,000 bums on seats at every match along with CL Football to keep the revenue pouring in. If we finish 5th or worse Poch is going to struggle to hang on to our best players and if we finish with no silverware again this season we'll be back to having to buy players in to replace the one's we lose and it will be back to the drawing board. Players don't give a sh** at the end of the day they just want someone to flash the cash and I can see Verts Alders Alli Rose and Eriksen looking for the exit door if we end up back in the Europa. Now is the time for Poch to pull things around cos you can bet Levy ain't going to fork out anything substantial in January but you can also bet Levy is enjoying the extra match day revenue the club is getting as well as the TV Money and, has got used to it by now, so he will be as pi$$ed as a sky full of parrots if we take a dip in revenue next season! 14 points behind City is one thing but if we let a gap open up between us and Liverpool or the Gooners then 4th will be a miracle. United Play the Scum this weekend whatever the outcome of that game we can close the gap with a Win at Watford. We have to make Saturday a turning point. We shouldn't have lost at Leicester, we missed absolute sitters during the game as we did against West Brom and United. Its literally the wrong side of a boot or a post that has got us into this slump, our attitude on Saturday has to be absolutely spot on, no slow start or lacking in ideas so the team Poch picks has to reflect that sense of urgency! Poch has got to change it up if Sissoko gets picked it will show a lack of ambition as will playing Moussa from the start!

What has been largely ignored on this site is that this will be the nineteenth game in succession for our boys with just a few days in between, if the internationals are included. The last ten or so have been particularly intense. This must be taking its toll. Yes others have had to put up with this ridiculous schedule to some extent. But they have not had the continuous pressures we have experienced and have rotated much more (or have been able to rotate much more) because of the strength of their squads. All this means that team selection will have to depend largely on who is the least knackered and who is best back from injury. Going through the positions perhaps Lioris could do with a rest, the wing backs should be selected on merit for the game since they have been sufficiently rotated. Dier definitely needs a rest which leaves a back two rather than a back three. Vertongen also needs a break but who is there? Sissoko with all his faults) and Dembele for central midfield since they should be relatively fresh. Eriksen is out on his feet so he should be replaced by Winks. Alli is just not good enough at the moment which means the relatively fresh Son and Lamela sharing this role.and Kane and Liorente up front, with Son taking over from Kane (if he also proves to be not up to it for one reason or another) or from Llorente (if he still proves to be the Llorente of old) when Lamela is ready to come on. Complicated I know but we must play our poor hand as best as we can. And there are lots of mid-week games to come!

Based on your post Stan, seems everyone needs a rest! I am sure the fans need a rest too, having to put up with such congested fixture list and still being able to find time to post here....or even write a book!

A tough game in deed. Watford are no longer the pushover of last year and we are no longer the team to fear. Score early against us and draw is the worst you can expect, conversely, we score 1st, 3 points in the bag. However, ain't got a clue what team and formation Poch's gonna put out, no doubt there will be an element of WTF on the odd selection! Well, let's see what Poch's made of and how we start this game...... please not another lethargic start and a post match interview to bemoan it. I think it will be a close one, 2-1 to either side..... hopefully us. Sorry Geof, the days of 3-0 appear to be history.

All bad form has to come to an end soon enough... Why not today?

I can see an open and entertaining match today and of course, a Spurs win... What else can I say? I'm not one to think that I should ever know better, what the manager or the players need to do, bar score at least one more than the other lot.

So, whoever plays, whatever the formation, however the stars are aligned, rain or shine, I'm predicting Watford 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur.

Here's my predicted (preferred) line-up. Hugo, Dier, Sanchez, Vert, Rose, KWP, SIssoko, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane. We'll need height and physicality hence Sissoko and Dier. Up front we need cutting edge thus Son. Rose and KWP can add the speed on the wings. Again, for physical presence, Poch may choose Aurier over KWP. One customary mistake for their goal but Harry for the Brace. 1-2 COYS!

I just don't get this selection, yet again. Poch has already spoken after the Watford game about how mentally jaded Eriksen is, yet he picks him again. Why is he expecting a different result? We know Watford have plenty of pace on both flanks so why Davies rather than Rose? Rose should be plenty fit enough to play twice in four days by now. It's seems to be a mechanistic rotation of the wing backs rather than a more focused selection which takes account of the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

Geoff, I'm not sure that Dier will be in MF. Looks more like Demble and Eriksen/Alli there with a back 3 again. As Gary says, Poch doesn't seem to learn/adapt. It's his way or no way. Still, a win would be nice.

People keep on and on about how our poor delicate little flowers are worn out by playing so many games so quickly. Sorry but I don't buy into that BS, just look at what le arse's invinsibles did way back and we are supposed to be so much fitter and stronger than players were back then, so why all the fatigue. I think it is more than likely that because the players KNOW poch hasn't got the heart for any domestic silverware that the players are not playing for him any more. Why should a player go out onto the pitch and play his heart and soul out for a game his manager has no belief in. For Poch to have come out with the FA cup League Cup and the Prem are not considered to be a high enough aim because we want to concentrate on winning the C L is totally counterproductive as it promotes a slack and lacksadaisical attitude on the pitch simply because the players KNOW that the game they are playing has no real significance in the manager's future plans, so why bother with it and why try hard because they don't NEED to simply because we are no longer competing for those trophies. Poch has shot himself in the head with that. THEN his stupid book telling all and sundry about the private life of the dressing room. Then we have a wage structure which means that any of our top players can go virtually anywhere in the Prem and get a better wage that we offer, even teams that are so called lower teams with less cash and that must be pretty unsettling too. I always thought that was supposed to be almost like sacred ground where you do not betray player's confidence's and arguments between them and the manger as a sort of cheap shot expose just to shift units off the shelf. Notice how his book flies whilst we crash and burn.

If as Poch says Eriksen is so mentally tires why on earth play him? We were so so lucky right at the end, it was a stone cold penalty and they should have had another one earlier. So what will be the poor excuses this tome. Why can't people just admit SPURS ARE A MEDIOCRE MID TABLE TEAM and we were just lucky last season with all the top teams around us in disarray, now they are back to normal and have strengthened we are back where we belong, outside the top four and floundering around 7th. Dele is a liability the way he goes in and has a go when we are down to ten men playing the idiot by being in other player's faces at the time when cool heads are needed. This carries on for the season and Poch won't be seeing much of the new stadium and the new changing rooms. This was p**s poor by anyone's standards considering the so called tallent and ability we are supposed to have at our disposal. We won't even be in Europe at all next season. Still I suppose that will stop Poch whining on about how tired his pathetic little losers are. If fergie had said anything like that during manure's triple season they wouldn't have won anything. this is what I mean by we have a manager with a LOSER'S mentality which is then transferred to the players minds, and unless that changes we are going nowhere fast.

Given the circumstances after playing with 10 for almost all the 2nd half, this is a decent result, bit in the grand scheme of things 1-1 at Watford is simply not good enough. We are gradually, or in reality not gradually more like rapidly, losing touch with those above us. We have gone from a blip v WBA, to a slump v Leicester, to a crisis v Watford, while all the while the front running clubs keep winning. We have gone from 2nd to 6th in no time, with no encouraging signs of a recovery. This is heading towards a season to forget in mid table obscurity, with no European football for next season in the new stadium.

by bringing on sisso-coco the clown that moron poch basically played with nine men. The guy has totally lost the plot in his desperation and is now casting about for any excuse and for straws to clutch at. Don't blame the injuries as last season we were without Kane for a while and everyone said we'd struggle to score, but Son and a few others stepped up to the mark and kept it going until he got back, because most of our team is so young there is no one with REAL maturity and authority to take control outfield, so they start to run around like headless chickens when things go wrong because yet again and again and again and again WE HAVE NO PLAN B.

Well done for holding on and trying to take the game to them with ten men. i have seen Sanchez flap his arms around before, and I don't think it was malice just a little silly but hey he has been great so far and he is young. Worse of it is a 3 game ban so wearing thin in the back line. Question now is do we go for back 4 in the next 3 games or bring in Foyth?.

I didn't really see much wrong with out game today, I thought Dele was better, won us a few free kicks and Eriksen was slightly better but probably does need a rest, but he worked hard. I did notice something that was delivered today that we haven't seen in a while and that is pacey crossing by Lamela, his delivery is so much better than Eriksens and Trippiers imo. He puts more pace on the ball.

Kane worked his socks off and got fauled a lot, and I think son did ok but seems to play better coming of the bench at times.

Dembele fought hard and seemed ok fitness wise to me and apart from a silly mistake by Verts he was good again.

I think we have to be happy with the errort of 10 men and we have to keep plugging away, it will come and I think we have to stay calm.We haven't that final sharpness of last season, but we have got injuries and had fitness issues. For me not losing is a good result even though we would have preferred a win, Watford have been on form they are not easy to play against this season, you can't go on last seasons result, its all different this season, they are better.

Time to give some players a rest in CL, shame Lamela cannot play to get some game time but he isn't registered yet. Still might be time to take a look at Foyth, may be Llorente, Winks can play, but unfortunately we can't really rest Verts and probably not Dier due to injuries.

Lets stay calm and lets keep fighting for that top 4 and maybe have a real go in the FA cup and CL.

I mist have been watching a different game. We played much quicker more direct football in the first half and scored a great goal.....and no it wasn't a penalty to them before we broke. If Sanchehad not gone mad we would have crushed them. They are a dirty physical side and I thought all our lads got stuck in. Watford should have been down to 10 men before half time. Having said that we are now in the s*** given we have no recognised CB to bring in except for Foyth. Overall I thought it was a spirited performance after going down to 10 men and it was just a shame that we didn't win.

Don't be fooled by this result. We were lucky to get a draw in view of the shot that hit the post and the late penalty that wasn't. Yes we dug in well after Sanchez was sent off but the fact remains that we were prone to defensive errors and lacked a cutting edge in attack. Whatever others may say these kind of weaknesses creep in when players are fatigued, mentally if not physically. Fighting spirit can compensate for the latter not the former. Those who argue otherwise are not taking account of the special factors that have led to this situation, which I have repeatedly set out here and will not bore you by repeating them once again. If anyone can be held responsible it is Poch's willingness to persevere with an out of form Dele and his unwillingness to rotate our key defensive and attacking players, for example preferring the glory of beating Dortmund to resting them for the run of the mill Premier games to come. Maybe this has also something to do with the Latin American machismo approach where real men are not supposed to become tired. Obviously those who prevented the strengthening of the squad in the last transfer window must also share some of the blame. The players attitude to Poch and his book is a red herring in my opinion. Let's hope players are rested for our next mid-week game Then it will be a matter of whether this "break" will be sufficient to freshen us up and take us through to the January window and the return of Sanchez, Toby, and Victor.

Eriksen should go in January instead of taking the money here under false pretences, same with that clown Ali.

Yes, a fair result, nonetheless, no hiding the fact that we are still stuck in a bit of a rut and with the squad as is, can't see a fix any time soon. Like I said pre-match, in our current form if the opposition scores 1st, the worse case scenario for them is a draw. Had we scored 1st, it could've been a landslide win. Despite signing all these defenders, seems Poch hasn't mastered the art of defending corners. Seems Rory Delap has had a reincarnation as they exploited our defensive aerial weakness with regular long throws and corners. We seem to panic under aerial attacks, so much so that imo even Lloris looks uncomfortable going for the ball. This game was like playing v Stoke of few years back, very physical and the ref could've handled it better.

I thought for once we played at a high tempo from the off, but let down by conceding early on......again. Still no real options from the bench. Very surprised at the omission of Rose as I thought Davies was a total failure on the LHS. All our threats came from the right and made a change seeing several good crossed from Trippier. I also noticed that Poch was a lot more animated and vocal by the touch line. Perhaps he's feeling the pressure (performances wise). I seriously think we MUST add in January, else mid table beckons. If Rose goes (likely) then funds should be available.... just need to scout better. This season reminds me of Leicester, after doing so well the previous season, like the foxes, we will do well in the CL but suffer in PL. Shame as I'd have thought CL would've been a must whilst entering our new stadium. May be we'll win the damn thing to qualify next season!

well, I decided to nod of an fall asleep, that was pathetic .. MP, I do like him, but I think he has taken us as far as he can and he never learns, constantly rotating fullbacks..... Rose is miles ahead of Davies .... because Levy is not giving him the funds for them world class players ... Rose is off in January its clear to see, I know the last 2 seasons have been great, but there is no excuse for this pathetic play we are displaying now .. Shearer is right we will never win the title .. MP< needs to buck up his ideas .. Im proud of them we fought get real, your selecting players out of form and pretending it is rosy .. I can hear Levy sharping his axe .. MP is solely responsible for this by selection the crap like sissoko and davies.

Rose is sold already, hence he leaves him out all the time. ... selling the best 2 fullbacks in the league within half a season ... such a smart ******** idiot MP is huh. .... Levy has no excuse he needs to lift the wage cap to keep the best players ... Toby will be gone in the summer you watch ...

Only a few weeks ago, after the Man U defeat, the talk was, apart from the Arsenal game, that we had a run of "winnable games". Well low and behold we have failed to win any of these v WBA, Leicester, and Watford and have slipped from top 3 to 6th in the PL. We now have a run of games up until Jan 1st that will define our season, with home games v Stoke, Brighton, Southampton and West Ham, and away to Man City, and Burnley. We need at least 12-15 points from these games to regain our position to challenge for European football next season. I can imagine Mr. Levy ringing his hands in dismay and horror if there are no mid week European games to get the tills clicking and the akkers rolling in, in our shiny new stadium. Although he has been found somewhat wanting in team selection, and tactics in some games this season, to be fair to MP, he is working with one hand tied behind his back. His alternatives for selection are scarce to the point of non existent, which also limits any tactical alternatives. The sale of Walker to a rival PL team was scandalous, and looks like being repeated with Rose, and an apparent reluctance or refusal to offer Alderweireld a contract approaching his true value, which incidentally has been highlighted by our defensive vulnerability since his absence due to injury, will no doubt drive him into the arms of a club willing to recognise his value. The shallowness of our squad, and lack of selection alternatives, painfully obvious if you look at our bench compared to that of rivals, is solely down to a long term failed scouting and recruitment policy headed by a "land manager", accountancy driven person, instead of a "football person". This has ironically led to a waste of resources rather than the intended saving of money, by the signing of the wrong players who in many cases have completely bombed at Spurs, failed to perform, and have not progressed the club in any way. We have spent seasons looking for a half decent striker to augment, back up, offer selection alternative to Harry Kane, a lock picking CMFer and a wide player with pace and power, whilst we have spent a considerable sum on abject failures such as every striker signing for years with the exception of Berbatov including Rebrov, Postiga, Bent, Soldado, Jannson, and now apparently Llorente,(apologies if I have missed any), in fact going back to Berbatov and before him Klinnsman, what was the total wasted spend on that lot. We sold messrs Bale, Modric, and Van Der Vaart for a hefty sum and apart from Eriksen wasted the lot, and continue to waste resources on players like Sissoko(£30M for what). Before we blame the managers concerned, and there have been plenty, it should be remembered that where recruitment and agreeing contracts is concerned there has been one constant common denominator, the redoubtable Mr.Levy. The first half of this season has shown that injuries to key players (Alderweireld, and Wanyama) and a loss of form to one or two others (Eriksen, and Deli Ali) has turned what was looking like a competitive progressive attractive team into what is becoming a mid table shambles. This of course is largely down to a lack of available viable selection alternatives and cover in vital positions, not "potential boy wonders" but players whose current quality, ability, and suitability to the way we want to play, makes them suitable selection alternatives. It remains to be seen if anything will be done to satisfy this dire need in January and in the summer, I personally doubt it.

It's all well and good saying we need to pay more and get better players but from what i have read we have to spend a percentage of what we bring in to stay within the finacial fair play! Can we therefore pay much more if revenue in isn't big enough! I think the biggest problem we have had is poor recruitment, said it so many times. Take City, last season they didn't quite have enough good enough players to make the title, but they were there and thereabouts, this season they got the players to take them to the title or at least sustain a challenge. We finished above them last 2 seasons and was 2nd but who did we bring in to take us over the line or improve us or at least sustain a title challenge. Apart from sanchez. last two windows have been poor, but so have a few before them, we waste a lot of money.

It's concerning that there is uncertainty around Rose and now Toby and Dele and to a certain extent Eriksen will attract attention but at least the latter two have contracts but that seems to mean nothing now, as the message sent out by sell Walker has undone all the good work of getting players to sign new contracts last year.

We all make dodgy decisions in life and business and its now up to the club to learn from them and I do feel Poch is that type of person but its not easy environment to work in if players want more and heads are turned.

I don't think any of us can say whether the club are paying enough, we don't really know what they are getting paid or how it really works in the real world of finance, but the biggest issue I have is not so much about what we pay players, players will always want more, its human nature, its more about how we spend the money, we still haven't really got a scouting recruitment that delivers more gems than they deliver duds. fir what we paid for Sissoko and GK we could have got better I am sure, but then again may be we couldn't because of the wage structure, its so hard and I don't think we should be slagging of Levy when in reality we don't understand the finance of such a vulnerable out of control business like football.

For me the game yesterday showed me that the players and manager are still together, ok we still lack key players and decent backups but they fought and they tried to win and their work rate was much better. We are noly 4 points of top 4 which imo ws a realistic target in this season being at wembley, and Liverpool are vulnerable and so are Arsenal, so its still doeable. I see top 4 now as City, utd and Chelsea, probably in that order although Utd may well pip it if City have a blip, and I think Chelsea just have experience and will probably take 3rd or 4th spot, with us, Liverpool and Arsenal fighting it out for 3rd or 4th, probably 4th as it stands. So things are okish, not great but we are not out of it yet.

Major problems now is Rose situation, immediate, lamela immediate lack of match fitness to remedy, out of form players in Dele and Eriksen and to some degree inconsistency of Son. No back up striker for kane, and a very thin defence with Toby out and next 3 games Sanchez out. I said a while ago in a article couldn't understand why we left ourself short at the back once we switched to 3, we onlt have Foyth as back up and Dier as a utility player, if you play 3 at back you need 2 immediate backups and then Dier as the utility player, Foyth isn't even considered ready. Plus the absence of Wanyama is costing us a bit. So the next few weeks, the most busy is going to be tough.

Frank .... I don't really think it's fair to blame anyone for the sale of Walker .... or Bale, Modric, and Berbatov, come to that. They wanted to leave and that's all there is to it. The same will apply to Rose if he leaves. 'Player power', is part of football now and there's little that clubs can do about it. Yes, clubs can force them to stay until their contracts expire but that would end up destroying team spirit and be counter productive to everyone involved. I'm sure that everyone connected to THFC would have regretted those players leaving so it's pointless to blame the Owner, Chairman or Manager for something they could not, realistically, avoid.

Geofspur, a certain Liverpool player by the name of Coutinho was certain to leave in the summer, effectively went on strike to force a move, but where is he playing now, Liverpool because they refused to be bullied and held him to his contract. I never said we shouldn't have sold Berbatov, or Bale or Modric or VDV or anybody else, what I said was the proceeds were wasted by signing the "wrong players", players who might have talent or ability but didn't fit in with how we want to play. It isn't all about paying big money as others have shown. Leicester paid less for Kante, Mahrez and Drinkwater together than we spent on Sissoko, why because they knew what they wanted/ needed, found them, scouted them, and signed them. These signings were so success that Kante and Drinkwater moved on to Chelsea and both play regularly. We on the other hand have more failures than successes in the market, and don't anyone tell me that Leicester are better off financially than us, but at the end of the day they have won the PL.
