Happy Kane Day.

Happy Kane Day.

We are on a roll, Southampton are languishing closer to the bottom three then the top six, which for them is a bit of disaster given how they've played in recent seasons. Their manager is under huge pressure and he'll set up to try and grab a point, what they won't do is turn up and try and play us man for man, system for system.

As always, we can't take anything for granted, but I can't see anything else but a Spurs win.

We are now beginning to look a bit like our old selfs and have accumulated 13 points from our last five Premier League games to claw our way back up to fifth place in the table; not where we wanted to be this time of the this season, but momentum appears to be building, our performance against Burnley aside from the missed chances was as comprehensive as win since our Liverpool win.

With Harry scoring his 35th Premier League goal in 2017 to make him one goal short of Shearer's record tally for a calendar year , I think this will be the game that brings him home the record. Poch is happy, the diatribe coming from Rose has ended and may never be heard again in a Spurs shirt.

Poch will rotate and rightly so, but no matter what permutation I come up with all I can see is a tough game but one we get over the line with.

Southampton will like every other lower Premier league club who will raise their game for Wembley, but as long as we've avoided Turkey and all the trimmings, the only team I can see getting stuffed are Southampton.

4-0 win or 1-0 depending on whether we have re-found our clinical boots.

Hope by the time you read this you've all had a great xmas and are ready for the proper enjoyment - a boxing day feast of football.

6-0! Harry to score at least two but probably 4!

Sorry, what? You want me to be realistic? How more realistic could I be, already?!

Here's to a Merry Harry and a Happy new Hotspurs!

Cheers!

I thought Kane had equaled Shearer’s record and was looking to break it against Southampton. Is that not so? No matter 4-1 Spurs!!

I believe with one more goal, he beats Shearer's record and matches Messi for the calendar year. Two goals and he goes on a different planet!

I'm getting sick of the pathetic media not giving credit where deserved.. Kane has scored 36 in 35 shearer got 36 in 42... he's equaled and bettered his record ... shearer is crediting Kane as a gentleman but thenidiots in the sun, mirror mail etc p*ss me right off ... let's hope he can get 2 or 3 today.

Good day to you all

Shearers' record is from when there were still 42 matches in a season. And if I recall correctly, not so many teams had a key to park the bus in those days.

AS was of course a great striker but could it be said that it's a more tougher task these days to score at the rate that Harry Kane has been this year? And if (Hod forbid) he were to leave for pastures new, does this mean his only real comparable replacement would have to be Lionel Messi? And, can Spurs be the new Barca?

Let's get REAL... It's not all about Harry today, it's about gaining another 3 points. And I'm fully confident that we will.

Hopefully we can do it in style, Mr Kane achieves his personal goal and THFC can finish the year as they mean to go on. Top 4 contenders? I say, top 2 and a cup would be rather good!

Come On You Spuuurs!

Decent line up, expect Kane to try and score quick so he can relax and enjoy the game, so I am going to go for a win, with a score line of 3-1, Kane 2, Dele 1 and Long for them.

Just heard Celtic benched Dembele rumours he is on talks with brighton, if that is true why are we not looking at him. Also if it is true I wonder whether Dembele himself feels his progress is to be done slowly, championship to scottish when he could have come to PL, now to a PL club like Brighton, makes you wonder doesn't it whether he feels he is not ready himself to play for a top PL club and prefers to play for a club where he knows he will get regular starts. Would liked to have him at our club.

On this game, I want to see some improvement with Aurier, see if his consecutive games brings the best out of him. Shame Lamela isn't starting, he needs game time, but at least he isn't being pushed back too quickly. I expect him to start in the FA cup though. Rose needs game time, hope he improves and we benefit with his pace. Big game for Dembele, are we going for a back 4 with Dier in the middle - I hope so, think we need him in there. Overall should be a good game and see no reason why we can't win this as long as every body turns up and not weighed down by their xmas pudding

Only dissappointment was we lacked discipline in second hlaf, lost the ball quite a lot and hence they scored 2 goals. Thought we played with emotions towards the end and that caused the dysfunction at times, plus looked a bit leggy towards the end. Other than that very decent performance and sooooo happy for Kane. But lets not forget this was a big game for three points and its not always easy to play these games when records are there for the breaking, often the team can lose concentration but they played well other than too much openness in the second half.,br>

Spurs awesome going forward , 5 superb goals, but shame about the 2 conceded, both down to Lloris. The first one at his near post was simply poor GKing the second was down to a poor punch, although he may have been fouled in the act of punching. Great result, great team performance, but would have been even sweeter with a clean sheet.

Good team performance. Not much to grumble about given we scored 5, Harry broke the record and we got the 3 points. The 2 conceded takes a bit of the shine off things, but there were lots of positives. Dele seems to be getting his form back, but can be wasteful at times, the goal will do him a world of good. As someone said we looked a bit leggy in the 2nd half, hence the game was wide open. I think our decision making needs to be a bit sharper on the counter, as we could of had more goals. We need to keep this ruthless streak going, but our defence is a little leaky. Credit to Southampton, who never gave up, but were just up against better quality. We have a good team to build upon, so hopefully we now show some ambition in January as we need a playmaker who can play in CM and a winger. Bar the totally obscene wages, I think we're an attractive club for a player.

Just back from the game, my summery, that is the best I have seen them this season going forward, between, Kane, Erikson, Son and Dele, we look like scoring every time we go forward. It was very impressive, Harry K WOW, no other words, my fear is how do we keep him, I thought Dele was so much better than he has been, Erikson in the first half looked great. I do still worry a little at the back, we look vunrable and unsure at times, I think our own fault as we look to play ourselves out of trouble. I worry a little on Loris ( I think he is a top keeper) but he needs to be a little more assured in catching the ball, he loves a punch. Overall great performance, we blew them away. Well done Harry, you are now in the history books. I welcome VIctor and Toby back in 2018. Now to do a Man City and go on a 17 match winning run. Have a great New Year everyone. See you all in 2018. It was not a perfect performance Poch will say he wasn't comfortable at how open we were in second half, but as I said, leggy and lost a bit of discipline. Southampton kept going and saw that we were not at our best in the second half, had their couple of chances gone in we could have seen a different game, but offensively we were good, clinical and kane stole the show, but our offensive players helped him today.,br>I thought we lost the midfield in the second half, Dembele went off, and while Sissoko was ok we didn't retain the ball, it went a bit weird, but I thought Dier played well and tbh I think the emotion of Kane breaking the record actually started to show in the team, we lost shape and discipline and lacked a bit of composure, but got away with it, other than the two goals.

Next week tough with three consecutive games, but we have a week to rest and prepare which is good for the players.

Utd dropped points, and it looks like noone is going to challenge City this season, I would love it if we start to impose ourselves and fight for 2nd, not impossible, a lot depends on getting Toby and Wanyama back and keeping everyone onboard and injury free and maybe see what happens in transfer window, but we are competiting, and Liverpoll and Arsenal are not always solid and Utd are losing the plot, too many draws.

Funny how wembley isn't mentioned these days, all that pressure by pundits, media at the beginning of the season, no need for it, negative and sensationalism and total crap being dished out, to get headlines.

Happy for Dele, getting an assist and goal, and the Rose photo, was that an intentional finger pointing to the badge, not clear to me, but if it was it may be a sign that he is happy and settled again and is staying, we will see.

TQ2Spurs - I think lloris will bed good enough next season but then we may well be looking at his replacement, he isn't getting any younger but he is also such a professional it wouldn't suprise me if he doesn't improve his game and we see him for at least another 3 or 4 years as Number 1.

When Kane scored I cried - tears of happiness for the guy, I love him and I will be the first to say I didn't rate him at one point when he made an appearance, so I don't know anything. He has completely become something I never expected and done it the right way, hard bloody work and loyalty.

just shows you want players can achieve with a good work ethic, commitment and loyalty, that also goes a long way, stability and not have your mind wondering all over thinking of pastures new believing there is better elsewhere and the grass is greener on the other side, just commited to one club and not allowing his ego mind to take control. When you have total belief in yourself and others around you and your mind is completely with the task at hand, focused and no wondering then you can achieve great heights.

For me he is one of the best players we have developed in such a short time and Poch has also to take some credit, he is helping him and so are the players, they are behind him. Well done kane and well done everyone who has helped him reach these heights. If the Pl developed more of these types of players then things would be so much better. Kane for me is such a good all rounder and improves with age, fantastic acheievement we are lucky to have him and have his personality and commitment in this day and age.

I have to agree with the comments regarding Lloris. The mistakes are increasing. We got away with it against Southampton and Stoke more recently, but in the tighter matches it could be costly. He's a great shot-stopper but increasingly prone to lapses of concentration, and his handling of crosses is less than assured.

IMO, it is a difficult one with Hugo. To an extent he has been shielded by probably the best defensive line and DM's and has produced some worldies to keep us in several games. His distribution has been suspect for a considerable time and his handling of crosses too has been iffy but it is unfair to point finger at him alone. The defenders are just as guilty of poor marking and panic mode on crosses. He also seems very left footed and thus taking longer to adjust before clearing. Despite all that, he is the last person I'd be concerned about. Aurier scares me more with his defensive lapses. At least twice he made a hash of his clearances and brought undue pressure in what otherwise was a great performance by the TEAM.

CS .... I think it’s a learning curve for Aurier this season so it’s probably too early to assess him accurately, although I do know what you mean. Our defense, generally, has not been able to keep its shape to the extent it did with Toby at the back. The back line has not enjoyed the consistency of players that it had last season. Time will improve that. Wanyama has been missed too. We’re probably doing well to stay in the mix for a top four finish with the injuries we’ve had .... top three really as the top spot seems to have been claimed already! It’s difficult to be critical of Hugo, but he does put himself and the players immediately in front of him under pressure at times when, with a bit more thought, he could distribute the ball to some part of the ground that is less likely to result in me having a heart attack.

I'd take a couple of hash clearances from Aurier, over Trippier getting skinned by pacy, skillful wingers.. I think our best wing backs at this time are Rose and Aurier and I don't see the need for such regular rotation. Let them play a few games back to back and they should be 1st choice against the top teams, imo.

I accept your view Geof...just like your 3-0's!

Guyver, my observation about Aurier was not a moan as such, just picking on something that has occurred more than once. On your point about Trippier being skinned, I noted something that stands out for me, i.e., because of our WB system, we generally leave ourselves open in our defensive wings when the WB's have accelerated upfield. I have seen the opposition tend to target that vacant space (both Burnley and Saints) using those areas as their attacking outlets. The three at the back end up covering a lot of area and leave more gaps to be exploited. Both Rose and Aurier were exposed, though former is more accustomed to it and is able to recover better. Aurier still seems to be acclimatising to our style.
Critical_Spur
27/12/2017 14:25:00

Critical_Spur, despite our attacking wingbacks, we've had the best defence for 2 consecutive seasons and thats because we are well balanced. 3 CB's plus 1 DM or 2 CB's plus 2 DM's fill in 2 cover the vacant space. Its not really an issue for the most part. By design, the system prepares for our wing backs being caught up field, although recovery pace is a nice bonus, which Davies and Trippier don't have. Trippier getting skinned, also implies he was back in position, but was simply not good enough to stifle the threat. That being said, its not so much a problem against most opponents. You don't play against the likes of Sane and Salah every week.

My view of the game yesterday... Harry was brilliant again. Dele a bit better form.. Sonny determined in his run from left and across Dele and took Dele's pass to make sure of scoring. Ericsson missing in spells of the game. DMF Dembele /Sissoko just about ok... Dier ok, covered aurier runs upfield. Rose and Jan in control nearly all the time (as rose is getting into the groove again). Sanchez calm and looks like he is learning how to pass long diagonal balls like toby... Lloris looks to be a bit dodgy again, near post he should have saved it. So.. a good 3 points, Harry got his name into the Legends record books. We are going better now at Wembley. Tough sequence of games in a week coming up.. Swansea away 2 Jan.. Wet Spam home 4th Jan FA cup home 7 Jan... I expect 6 points and a win into the next round of FA Cup....COYS

Having now done some reading on various forums and blogs, this transfer @ 75 mill is alarm bells time under our financial constraints. How does one hang to to it's best players when those sort of carrots are being dangled. At one extreme, likes of Brighton are looking to break their transfer fee record of 18 mill and at the other end 300 mill spend is not enough for Jose. Only a matter of time before we see a super league where only the richest are allowed at the table.... it's coming.

It actually justifies Mourinhos comments about £300m not being enough, because if it takes £75m just to get a defender, who;s only had one good season, then maybe £300m, doesn't get you much if you are attempting to rebuild your team at the very highest level. We're not even in the same universe, let alone ballpark.
