Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur.
Southampton may not be the the worst team in the Prem, but they are making every effort to do so…
Only a few weeks after Southampton saved themselves from total humiliation at Wembley with a couple of late goals, that Spurs really should have done better with, but we see the side face each other again and things are hardly looking rosier for The Saints, while Spurs are actually looking rather good.
Southampton are currently on their worst run in 13 years in not winning any of their last ten games and perhaps only the ineptitude of of others may save them from relegation. how they spend there 75 million from Liverpool, may well decide there fate, but they don`t quite look like a side thats got quality or fight, so it could be a tough few months. Will Pellegrino survive too much longer if things don`t rapidly improve? Games against Watford (H), Brighton (H) and WBA (A) could boost their season or put more nails in their coffin.
The continued absence of Charlie Austin is a big problem for the team and otherwise goals look a problem. with a bang average defence and midfield, things need turning around fast and I don`t believe that Pellegrino is capable of doing that and more importantly, I don`t believe the players do either.
Spurs will be fresh from they week in the sun, but will be with our Rose, Alderweireld and Winks, while Hugo Lloris is a doubt due to illness. Will this be a stepping up for Vorm or a return to his former home for Paulo Gazzaniga?
Elsewhere, you can possibly guess a defence of Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen and Davies, but in midfield, will we retain Dier and Dembele or look to see Victor Wanyama face his former club? Perhaps the issue is, do we rest Eric Dier or still look at ease Victor back slowly? In attack, its seems unlikely that we will deviate from Alli, Eriksen, Son and Kane in the attacking four positions, more should we.
I honestly can`t see this being anything other than a Spurs win and more pressure on Southampton, who could easily sit in the relegation places after this weekend. For me, there are worse and weaker teams, but many have qualities of manager or momentum that may give them that bit extra moving forward, unless Southampton do something very soon...
