Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur.

Southampton may not be the the worst team in the Prem, but they are making every effort to do so…

Only a few weeks after Southampton saved themselves from total humiliation at Wembley with a couple of late goals, that Spurs really should have done better with, but we see the side face each other again and things are hardly looking rosier for The Saints, while Spurs are actually looking rather good.

Southampton are currently on their worst run in 13 years in not winning any of their last ten games and perhaps only the ineptitude of of others may save them from relegation. how they spend there 75 million from Liverpool, may well decide there fate, but they don`t quite look like a side thats got quality or fight, so it could be a tough few months. Will Pellegrino survive too much longer if things don`t rapidly improve? Games against Watford (H), Brighton (H) and WBA (A) could boost their season or put more nails in their coffin.

The continued absence of Charlie Austin is a big problem for the team and otherwise goals look a problem. with a bang average defence and midfield, things need turning around fast and I don`t believe that Pellegrino is capable of doing that and more importantly, I don`t believe the players do either.

Spurs will be fresh from they week in the sun, but will be with our Rose, Alderweireld and Winks, while Hugo Lloris is a doubt due to illness. Will this be a stepping up for Vorm or a return to his former home for Paulo Gazzaniga?

Elsewhere, you can possibly guess a defence of Aurier, Sanchez, Vertonghen and Davies, but in midfield, will we retain Dier and Dembele or look to see Victor Wanyama face his former club? Perhaps the issue is, do we rest Eric Dier or still look at ease Victor back slowly? In attack, its seems unlikely that we will deviate from Alli, Eriksen, Son and Kane in the attacking four positions, more should we.

I honestly can`t see this being anything other than a Spurs win and more pressure on Southampton, who could easily sit in the relegation places after this weekend. For me, there are worse and weaker teams, but many have qualities of manager or momentum that may give them that bit extra moving forward, unless Southampton do something very soon...

Hello Ox you've been roped in for a pre-match article then? Looks like it was a rush job judging by the typo's ....Lol! Given the fixtures coming up we had better hope and pray that we win this one especially as the Chavs couldn't put Norwich away in normal time. They go down to the Amex to play a team that is playing well at home so the late night shift on Wednesday might see the blues drop a point or two which would be very handy for us! I reckon Poch will play Dier and use Wanyama for the FA Cup giving Dier and company 10 days off before the Manure Game. Hopefully Alders will be knocking on the door by the 31st giving us pretty well our first team back provided Rose is fit by then, which its looking unlikely. Shame, because i am sure Danny would have liked to have played against his future club. Whether we have a new edition to the squad is a mute point but Poch may have a Brazillian by the 31st of January...if you know what I mean! the Malcolm kind! We need a good fast start against the Saints they will probably be happy with a draw so its important to score first and see if we can repeat the performance we gave at Wembley! Their short on confidence and ideas we just need to concentrate and not rock up thinking we have already got the 3 points! Our away form has been poor up until the last 2 away games, before that we have had no win in 5! that is why we are playing catch up with the pool Manure and the Chavs.

The way the league is at the moment you can pretty much guarantee that if you win at least one of the competition will drop points. Its just about winning any way you can.

I'd really like a win here before we head in to the serious fixtures, keep the momentum building. Arsenal without Alexis may find it tough v Palace, Brighton may hold Chelsea and United at Burnley might not be a gimme. Another one of those games where 1st goal may dictate the outcome, but I'd like to think both Kane and Son will be buzzing. Ideally I'd like to see the same starting 11 that took care of Everton. Goal difference may become vital at the end of the season, with 1 GD between us, Chelsea and Liverpool. Geof's prediction will do nicely here. COYS!

Simply a must win game. We should have too much for them going forward, and if we score first they may collapse as scoring sine Austin has been missing is a big problem for them. This is the pre-amble to the massively important February fixture list where our top 4 credentials will be tested to breaking.

What is the truth in the Malcolm story. Are the media hyping it up in the absence of any Spurs news, or is there any truth in it, and what about Maura. The injection of Malcolm's pace and rumoured potential would certainly be welcome, but it is a big fee for a 20 year old, with absolutely no PL experience coming from the French League. It doesn't strike me as a "Spurs deal" but we signed Sanchez and he cost £40M.

I'd be very surprised if Malcolm came this window (if indeed there is any truth in the story). I think it's more likely that he'll sign a contract to come in the summer, similar to Keita at Liverpool. It is a lot of money for an 20 year old with no EPL experience but it's the going rate. Gabriel Jesus came straight over from Brazil at a similar age and hit the ground running at Man City until his injury, so it can pay off.

Yes Tottingham, I have looked him up, and he looks a promising young player, but he is coming (perhaps) from the French League, not the strongest, and could find the PL a culture shock, and he will be carrying a big fee. At least Maura is more experienced both at club and international level. Why not try a loan deal with a buy option on him as well. If there is any truth that we have turned down an approach from Chelsea for Lloriente, why? He is not exactly a good fit for the way we play, we could find better.

Since Morata's goals have dried up from his good start to the season, the media has linked all number of strikers possibly moving to Chelsea. Including Peter Crouch (of all people) and a loan for Benteke as well as Llorente.

As for Malcolm, I also knew nothing at all about him and I probably won't bother looking too much into him myself until we actually do sign him. If we sign him, that is. I remembered your Malcolm who? post because it made me laugh!

Ive always thought of Lucas Moura as the Brazilian Theo Walcott. Hasn't really lived up to the hype. Still a good player of course, although Malcoms stats look promising considering he's playing for a bottom half French club. At only 20 years of age, he'll possibly score more goals this season than Moura ever has in a single year.

Bloody Man Utd pinch a 1-0 at Turf Moor, they simply bore the opposition to death in the end. I really thought Dyche and Burnley could do us a turn today. Merson said it was awful, last minute goal again. Likewise Palace, they have been playing well but reverted to type v Arsenal and got done 4-1.

A media story today suggests that Toby might make his long awaited return against Newport in the cup next week. Me and my Spurs supporting mate popped over to watch Newport vs Crawley last night. The County won 2-1 but we didn't see anything to really worry us next weekend. Their number 2, David Pipe is a solid defender who is built like an Olympic weightlifter, and their number 7, Robbie Willmott is a tricky (and quick) winger. The number 10, Frank Nouble is quite a tall and awkward looking player who seems to be all elbows and knees, but is quite effective. The rest of the team will give 100% throughout the game, but Spurs quality should see us comfortably through. The pitch is small and the fans are very close to the touchlines. A word of warning, the ground is right alongside the River Usk, and last night it was bl00dy freezing!! Take gloves and a hat. If Spurs approach the game properly and give the opposition respect as professional footballers, I can only see a comfortable Spurs victory. Hope to see you at Rodney Parade next week, (I'll find out if we've got tickets tomorrow). If we don't get tickets, I'll open the back door and listen to the game, (I only live around a kilometre from the ground). Fingers crossed for tickets.

Where are our signings? Where is coopsiss it signing he announced after Barkely went to Chelsea? RESULTS WENT against us today so a just win to stay in and around our rivals. I am nervous because we play catchup after today's results although Liverpool play after us so if we win they under pressure. Was hoping for some transfer news, nothing, media making up stories now about Malcom, anything to sell papers, one minute we are near to signing him the next we are considering entering the race. All rubbish, don't believe any of it. Edwards to Norwich good move, may be away from London and with the big boys will mature him, hope it does, seems like he is running a fine line of messing up his career. Mind if we don't get him onside he may leave soon and another club will take amount on him, so hoping this move does him good and he wants to stay and prove his worth with us, because by all accounts he is supposed to be talented. Onamah I am not sure he has a future with us, just can't see him getting enough game time with us. Problem our players have is we have such a good team, and it's hard to break into it. It's a matter of if they are willing to be patient and accept it could be later I there twenties before they get their chance, but not all youngsters want to wait that long. When you look at players like Dele, 21 and a regular for two seasons, you think some of our youngsters are just not good enough for our first team squad. GK is struggling and he is older than our academy players. When you look at Eriksen, how old was he when he came, young, Lamela, Dier, all playing regular from a early age. Josh, is probably not quite good enough, and Edwards needs to be knocking in the door soon so be interesting to see how they fair for rest of season.

A win Today is likely given Saints poor form, our energy and attitude has to be spot on as against Everton. Wanyama starting ahead of Dier would be better, as long as match fit, he breaks up play and his passing is Top Draw. Would like to see Lamela start as well, but who does MP drop? with Dele showing signs of real improvement and Son having his best run of form in a Spurs Shirt, problems Eh!! COYSS!!!!!!

TE. I tend to pick a team that I think MP will choose, not necessarily one I would like to see. I would also like to see Wanyama in place of Dier today and like you I'd also like to see Lamela. The player that could then be dropped/rested is Dembele. drop Eriksen deeper, and use Lamela alongside Dele and Son, in behind Harry.

Frank, Malcom is not coming. We are not buying anyone this window. I like the comparison of Walcott to Maura. He’s not good enough. Stop gap at best. That’s why he can’t get a run at PSG. I will be shocked if we make any moves other than loaning out players this window. We must beat Southampton, especially after the results yesterday. Since I haven’t seen Geofspurs prediction I will have to go with 0-4 to the Spurs. Looking for Kane to get a hat trick to depress Aguero!

As for the line-up, I too would like to see Wanyama and Lamela start....but at last we have 'proper' competition in that. I said earlier and also predicted that Poch is likely to start with the same 11 that brushed aside Everton. However, if the game's in the bag at 65/70 mins, let's be having earlier subs...... ready for the gruelling run of games.

Malcom apparently on airplane with team mate and girlfriend - photo released. If its up t date photo looks like he is on his way somewhere, but where. Is it Uk, Europe some where else, and if its UK is it to us, Arsenal or who? Watch this space. I want us to sign Sess from Fulham he is perfect for us, we can loan him back. I would offer them 50m because quite frankly in this market he is likely to be a bargain, if we get three years out of him and find he doesn't step up we can sell him for that price because in three years 50m will be average price for a average player, but its likely he will improve and his value will go up or he may well become a decent player for us for many years. I would pay it now make an offer Fulham cannot refuse. 50m plus add ons like if we win the PL or CL title. I get a good feeling around Malcolm as well, I liked his interview, relaxed about a move, and says he has to do his job, good attitude, he isn't being egoistic, he is going with the flow, good indication he has respect. Wouldn't mind seeing both these signed, mind if we get Malcolm for the frirst team squad someone will have to leave if he is to ba added to the CL squad because we have our full quota for overseas players. May be we can loan them both back, lets see, hope we get something done and we don't have to think about in comings in the summer winter, just concentrate on out goings, that would be awsome.

That's a lot of pressure on Kane, Son and Dele to score today (assuming Dembele and Sissoko won't). I can't understand why Lamela isn't a straight swap for Eriksen. Dier hasn't been that good in a back three so far this season. It's a defensive looking line-up. I hope it plays out differently.

Rubbish performance and even worse subs from Poch. When you need a goal, why would you take off Son and leave on Sissoko? Son probably has more goals and assists this season than Sissoko has in his entire premier league career. Lamela is creative, but he's coming off a year long injury and has never been prolific in the EPL anyway, so our attack was blunted, especially with Dele producing one of the worse performances ive seen from him in a Spurs shirt.
