Snubbing a transfer to Spurs makes little sense

Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed that he has had contact with Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool - over a possible transfer.

Being interviewed on French TV channel Telefoot, the midfielder confirmed that we are among those who have indicated that they would like to sign him:

"It`s true that these clubs are interested. But I`m at Watford for the moment and I want to finish my season well."

Surprisingly though, the Frenchman also made it known he would like a move to Arsenal, because of their manager.

I know for some French players Wenger is well thought of, but it really shouldn`t be the main consideration when choosing a new club.

Having finished 11pts ahead of the Gunners last season and well ahead of them already this campaign, the power has truly started to shift in our direction; however, it seems the pull of playing under Arsene still remains alluring for some.

It cannot be argued that he has had an excellent season with Watford, but who would he replace in our side currently? He generally plays in central midfield and would offer competition to both Dembele and Wanyama in the middle of the park; however, we do have great depth in this position already with Dier, Sissoko and Harry Winks who is busy establishing himself in the 1st team over the past two seasons.

With Arsenal`s central midfield options weak with Santi Cazorla injured, Granit Xhaka struggling, and Jack Wilshere still not signed up to a new deal, perhaps the Hornets enforcer senses there are better playing opportunities for himself at the Emirates.

Choosing the Gunners over us, with our team now very much in the ascendency, suggests a lack of ambition from the player, or at the very least, he lacks the desire to fight for his place in our starting XI.

I've no idea about this guy to be honest. And even if Spurs have been checking him out, I'm sure he is just one of many we have clocked or are clocking. Tick-Tock! ... Certainly one of many when it comes to current media speculation. But, I suppose that if the media has most of our top players going to Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester, etc, then we will definately have to replace them all with a whole other bunch of players that are probably not as good... It's a long time before the summer TW and a lot can happen/change between now and then. And yet the current speculation from so many outlets has more in and outs at Spurs than in the actual TW just gone... Said the actress to the Bishop! ... Arsenal Who?!

Josh King was 25 last season and had his 1st and only decent season. He hasn't followed it up yet. Doucoure is already 25 and was pretty average last season. He is having his 1st decent season also. I'm not gonna get excited about this one especially if he's too stupid or naive to keep his mouth shut when they shove a microphone under his nose.

It makes sense as he would walk into the woolwich midfield, but would certainly not walk into ours. We don’t need him, we might need him in a couple of years when our Belgian superhero is forced to retire, but by then there will be better options.

Difficult to say how Doucoure's career will evolve. He could be a one-season wonder, and there are plenty of examples of players looking good for mid table clubs and then failing at top 6 level. Or he could be another Kante, an unknown quantity who came from nowhere, has a great season and goes on to become one of the game's premier midfielders. I'd edge on the side of caution and I would want to see more from him before deciding if he can improve us. I still think all of this talk about

a transfer is mostly agent talk. It's interesting to se that Wenger remains a strong pull for French players, but I'm not sure his sphere of influence extends beyond France at this stage. (Sorry for the 2 posts, I accidentally hit enter too soon).

Good player...I really like this guy, bring him in and sell Sissoko to Arsenal, problem solved...

Not convinced one good season is nothing

Perhaps he fancies joining the Foreign Legion at Arsenal.

He will be one of a few signings poch can consider. So as he already said he prefers Arsenal, we should move on, sign someone better.
