Tottenham Run The Rule Over 21 Year Old France International

It looks like the club are targeting another young centre back, according to reports in Germany. Fresh of the back of links to Leverkusen`s Jonathan Tah, Bild are now reporting that we sent scouts to watch Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard last week.

The Frenchman played the full ninety minutes in the 3-2 win over Cologne last Sunday and has been a regular for the Bundesliga club for the last two seasons since his arrival from Lille.

At 21 years of age, he certainly isn`t the most experienced centre half, and was actually playing in Bundesliga 2 last season when helping Stuttgart regain their top flight status.

He has also impressed during his first season in the Bundesliga. His team currently lie ninth in the table and have the third best defensive record in the league behind Bayern and Eintracht Frankfurt, which is extremely impressive.

The player himself has also opened the door to a move in the summer despite only having recently signed a contract extension until 2021:

'My main focus now is to make sure that we stay up. But I will take another look at how things are in the summer.'

Like I have said about our interest in Tah, signing potential is all well and good, but we will need more experience in the backline if Toby does depart. Looking at Pavard`s career to date, he really only has had two seasons of top division football to his name. This year with Stuttgart, and in the 15/16 season when he was still playing in France.

Of course, you shouldn`t judge players by their game time alone, with ability certainly a key consideration as well, but if we are going to go far in the Champions League we must have more players with experience in European competitions.

This lad is certainly very promising, and is very highly rated considering France manager Didier Deschamps has already given him two senior caps, but if we are going to take that next step, both in domestic and continental competitions, we are going need established talent.

Certainly, if we learn from the Juve loss, and keep our best starting XI together, we will be stronger next season, but with doubts over a few of our senior players` futures, like Toby, I would hope the scouts would be looking at a different level of player than the likes of Tah and Pavard. We will have to wait until the summer to see our true intent.

I would not worry about his lack of age in signing him. If nothing else, if he's good enough he'll get some time on the pitch. Signing him does not mean he need be THE starter. If he's good enough to sign, then sign him. If not, don't. God knows we need more blood in centre backs. verts and tobi lost too much of this season, whether they stay or not.

We have Foyth still and Dier can easily drop back and cover if necessary so do we really need more CB's?! We already have the right blend of experience and youth so why risk upsetting what we already have and potentially wasting vital resources that are needed elsewhere.

So, are we after two new and young CB's from the Bundesliga to replace the two new and young (very good) CB's that we already have?

The TW still doesn't open for a good while yet... And, there is a lot of football still to play until it does, including a World Cup tournament in Putin Land. (That's if the world is still here)... Meanwhile, in current news: My friend (the ITK to beat all ITK's) has informed me that THFC received the go-ahead this week to increase the stadium capacity to a few more over 62,000. So, that's a potential extra few thousand quid we can put toward a new pair of boots and a haircut for Toby. All good!

Does it really matter how tall he is, or isn't?

we don't need two young CBs to replace the two young CBs we already have. We need depth, and we're highly likely to lose Toby. I'd like to see at least one young CB signing. Sanchez looks to have a solid future with us. Foyth, don't yet know. But injuries happen in this game, and depth is crucial. If you are weak at CB you are weak. Depth is crucial, and the youth serve depth well, as one doesn't expect them to start 38 EPL matches plus cups. They fit into the vetting process. Just make sure to be signing the right ones (duh!!!).

Danny Rose is not going to be happy.

French not France international.

Mange tout, mange tout... He's French and he's played for France... He is both a French International and a France International. Harry Kane is an England player and Toby is a Belgium International, playing for Tottenham. Jurgen Klinsmann is German, and Erik Lamela is from Argentina. He is also a Spurs player, playing for Tottenham Hotspur FC... I am a Londoner and I once was a London County footballer. I also played for a top PL club (not Spurs). But I'll not name them if people promise not to mention the Italian team... from Italy! Bonjour! ... He who dares, Rodney, he who dares!
