Pretty poor performance all round !

Not that happy anymore. Don't feel like going into detail. Just got one word.....LEVY!!!
Madaboutspurs
This is where stats can lie. We may have had a few goal attempts but I can remember a wayward one from Parker, as well as two from Dempsey that didn't even clear the first man in front of him. It was so poor. I think we need 71 points for the top 4. Five wins, two draws and one defeat. Winning all home games is a must, as well as Wigan away. If we can get more of a point against Swansea, Chelsea and Stoke then bonus. By the way, Stoke have decided to make their game with us their 150th anniversary game, with all their greats in attendance and a bumper crowd, pitch displays etc etc. Hopefully we can ***** on their parade.

This was very poor. For the first time i can remember I just had no idea what AvB was doing. The starting line up I had no problem with - he was obviously looking to regain some of the width we have lost recently and get some crosses in, it troubled them a little early on, but didn't really work. I'd have then pushed Bale left and bought Defoe on for Dawson (injured) Benny back to left back. But instead he compounded the issue by bringing on dempsey and we still lost width. If Lennon is out, I feel Bale MUST play on the left.
RealDanger
This is the sort of game where a decent maanger has to earn the mustard. Didnt make the changes to deliver the result. Im looking squarely at AVB for this defeat
mattspurs1982
RealDanger - playing Bale out wide makes him less effective and makes life easier for our opponents. If Bale plays centrally it will ALWAYS take 2 opposition players to deal with him. It is what all teams do to try to nullify him and playing in the middle of the pitch they have no option but to double up on him because he has plenty of space to try to work some magic in. If you stick him out wide our opponents only need to dedicate one full back to deal with him because the touchline serves as their second defender. Bale gets isolated out wide then he automatically becomes less effective and also frees up an extra one of our opponents to look at hurting us rather than nullifying Bale. Also, even if Bale plays out wide and regularly beats his full back who will he be whipping crosses into to? Our current strikers are like playing with no strikers at all so his success out wide would be wasted anyway. The problem is that most other teams would be able to exploit the numerical advantage they receive from one of their players tying up two opponents. We don't have enough quality apart from Bale to be able to do that therefore we waste the opportuinity it affords us.
SpuriousLife
Of course!! How stupid of us not to realise the truth. It's Levy buying all the players whether the manager wants them or not. It's Levy who coaches the players. It's Levy who selects the team. It's Levy who decides tactics. It's Levy who makes the changes during a game & it's Levy who wears designer stubble & stands on the touchline alongside Joe Lewis wearing a Steffen Freund tracksuit.

It's ALL down to Levy. What complete & total 8ollck$!!

Spuds-U-Like
had only two shots on goal, and both came from JD. you can have ade playing "hold-up" all you like, but you need someone on the pitch getting shots on target.
Spurfect11
What a mess for 2nd time in a week! Vertinghen best CB in the Prem moved to LB and Benni LW (ur avin a laf) with Bale down the middle and no Lennon we had no width and no pace! Bad selection, bad shape and bad tactics. All this follows the fiasco in Milan where the boys ended up playing for 2 hours for very similar reasons. AVB has lost the plot and as a result our 4th place is now in danger. We need to get back to the team and shape that has done so well - if it ain't broke!!!!!!

Exactly spuds
TonyRich
too much tinkering.
mattspurs1982
Basically, we started with 3 players out of position. You can get away with one or two, but after that, too many people are just winging it. In the end, Bae was less effective than an average Andros Townsend performance would be had we kept him. Playing players out of position tricks you into believing that you are fielding a stronger line-up than you actually are. We had no width...well anyone could tell you that that is where our strengths are.... Yet we made no attempt in Summer, in Winter to sign a back up winger, or even promote a youngster winger. We basically played right into Fulham's hands. I believe that Bale generally should roam, but it was clear yesterday that we lacked so much width with Lennon out, that Bale had to go left - with Siggy/Dempsey right. Bale may well get marked out of game there, but then spaces appear down the middle. With no wing play, Fulham's centre was more packed, and we could not find space. Very poor.
TonyRich
Spurfect11 - the main problem was not up front. Defoe had those shots because we were playing 2 up front at the time. Defoe would have had a similar bad time had he been playing alone throughout that match like Ade was. Defoe has scored ONE goal in his last 15 appearances, and Ade has 2 goals in his last 15, so both strikers are mis-firing right now.
TonyRich
So many attempts to get the ball into the 18yd area whether from wing or thru the centre ended up bouncing back off the opposition. We seem to have lost the ability to make killer passes or even passes. How many times in the last 2 games especially was the ball given away by loose passing? Carroll was at least prepared to try to be creative. Carroll with Dembele in the centre would be well worth trying and bring Parker on if they are dominating too much. We do need an attacking threat from somewhere
Big Ron
I think Spurs started by playing three at the back yesterday. I sit in the North Stand upper and we were defending that end in the first half, the way the team lined up it seems that Kyle was playing right wing back and Benny left wing back, so we had five in midfield. My plumber is a Chelsea season ticket holder and he told me AVB played three centre backs a couple of times early on at Chelsea so maybe he is trying it again. I think AVB is doing a good job at Spurs I have to be honest I did not think we would be any where near the top four this season I know we have the players but I thought we would finish about 6 or 7 in the league this year and have the sort of season Liverpool are having. AVB has done the best of the new young managers this season, Rodgers, Lambert, etc. but in saying that I feel we can still get top 4. Our fate is in our own hands if we get a result at Chelsea and beat Man City & Everton at home, it will help our fate a lot. Finally, I am knocking Levy because I feel he has done more good for Spurs than bad, but I did hear at the start of the season he was offered Berbs from Man United as we had first refusal on him and he said "no thanks", after seeing him yesterday I believe he would have been a real plus in our team, he had one real chance and he scored.
Ox Yid
that was the sort of game that Pav normally comes off the bench, plays *****e but scores the winner
mattspurs1982
Ox Yid - I was wondering that too, but Vertonghen was hugging the line. It looked more like he was full back - or some hybrid. But that is my problem with any unusual defensive line - one injury, and the whole thing has to change. The CBs changed, the LB changed, and the goal was made through the LB side - soon after the change. Back four seems to be the most resilient scenario.
TonyRich
I just think we made it harder with all the changes around positions. Should have been the standard back 5 (with Walker dropped, and kept far away from WHL). Why oh why ddi we send Townsend out on loan. Theres nothing on the bench similar to him. Stupid stupid decision
mattspurs1982
mattspurs1982 - Which one of our vast array of match winning players sitting on the bench do you suggest AVB should have subbed on then to get the result??
Hot_Spur
I would like to see Carrol get more game time,he seems an intelligent player with a good eye for a pass, and Holtby must not be playing that well in training, I wish the Chelsea match was next because we need a game of that type that the players would be well up for, AVB needs to get it right against the Swans!!!!!!!!!
I hope the international break will be a help a change of scenery might do the players some good
we are still fourth and its ours to lose, so COYS ......... I BELIEVE.........
krafty007
Carol is a 'nice' player who can play a 'nice' pass. but defensively he will lacks the pace and physique to do well in centre-midfield. a luxury player that will 'look good' on the ball which in turn will fool the fans into not thinking of the holes this creates for other teams to exploit.
Papiss the Meerkat
No, spurs didn't start 3,5,2.....as suggested. They started with vertonghen left back and Ekotto left midfield. Ekotto looked lost, in this new position, to him. The constant tinkering lead spurs players into disorganisation and lack of focus.
82spursdebut
Pappas the wotcat ..........Carroll is progressing. Very left footed when he first noticed....but now getting better with his right. He even showed something more to his game, yesterday. He still has the potential to be a good left sided midfield player..of 3....maybe 4. Bit like how Kevin Sheedy was to Everton. Time will tell....how good he can become.......but at the moment.....he is progressing well.
